Gluten-Free Diet

A gluten-free diet is an eating plan that excludes foods containing gluten.

A gluten-free diet is essential for managing signs and symptoms of celiac disease and other medical conditions associated with gluten.

The label must state that gluten content cannot be determined and the beverage may contain some gluten.

Some research suggests that you may follow the diet for a certain period, such as one or two years, and then retest your sensitivity to gluten.

Some clinical studies have looked at the benefits of the diet among people who do not have celiac disease or who have non-celiac gluten sensitivity.

The expense of following a gluten-free diet can be substantial, especially if your diet includes foods that aren’t naturally gluten-free.

Gluten-Free Diet Plan: What To Eat, What To Avoid

A gluten-free diet involves excluding foods that contain the protein gluten, including wheat, rye and barley.

Most studies on gluten-free diets have been done on people with celiac disease, but there is another condition called gluten sensitivity that also causes problems with gluten.

People who don’t have celiac disease but feel they may be sensitive to gluten can try a strict gluten-free diet for a few weeks to see if their symptoms improve.

Studies have shown that following a gluten-free diet can help ease digestive symptoms for people with celiac disease and non-celiac gluten sensitivity.

It’s important to avoid processed “Gluten-free” foods like cakes, pastries and snacks, as they can quickly add a lot of calories to your diet.

Sadly, studies have found that roughly 21% of people with celiac disease avoid social events so that they can stick to their gluten-free diet.

If you don’t have celiac disease or a gluten sensitivity, you won’t need to follow a gluten-free diet.

Gluten-Free Diet

The gluten-free diet is increasingly popular, and with the number of gluten-free products on supermarket shelves, and restaurants offering gluten-free menu items, going gluten-free is easier than ever.

A gluten-free diet can be helpful to people with gluten sensitivity.

The diet works by removing all products containing gluten from a person’s diet.

There’s no evidence that the gluten-free diet will produce any particular health benefits, such as weight loss among those who don’t suffer from these disorders, other than the fact that eating a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains is known to be good for your health in general.

The gluten-free diet is compatible with other diets, such as vegan, vegetarian, Mediterranean, and others.

The diet has no confirmed health benefits, including improved energy and weight loss, for those who do not suffer from celiac disease or gluten sensitivity.

The diet also prevents discomfort some people experience from eating foods with gluten.

Celiac Disease Foundation

Most beverages are gluten-free, including juices, sodas, and sports drinks.

Wine is generally considered gluten-free to the FDA standard of less than 20 parts per million of gluten.

According to the University of Chicago Celiac Disease Center, wines fermented in barrels lined with wheat paste are unlikely to contain enough gluten to cause a reaction.

Some types of wine, like those with added color or flavoring, such as dessert wines, as well as those made from barley malt, such as bottled wine coolers, do contain an unsafe amount of gluten for people with celiac disease.

Alcoholic beverages, including hard liquor/distilled liquors/hard ciders are also gluten-free.

Beers, ales, lagers, malt beverages, and malt vinegars that are made from gluten-containing grains are not distilled and therefore are not gluten-free.

There are several brands of gluten-free beers available in the United States and abroad..

Starting A Gluten-Free Diet: A Guide For Beginners

It’s one of the most buzzed-about diets today-but what is a gluten-free diet? And how do you get started on one? While less than one percent of Americans have celiac disease and follow a gluten-free diet as a medical necessity, more people are ditching the bread for other reasons.

One in five Americans say they try to eat gluten-free foods, while one in six avoid gluten altogether, according to a 2015 Gallup poll.

There are lots of rumors swirling around the gluten-free diet.

“Some people believe it’s a healthier way to live or an opportunity for weight loss, however there’s no research to confirm that removing gluten from your diet leads to either of those things,” says Rachel Begun, M.S., R.D.N., culinary nutritionist and gluten-free diet expert.

No matter what your reasoning, starting a gluten-free diet the right way can keep you happy, healthy and satisfied.

Plan Ahead. A gluten-free diet takes work and some planning, especially in the beginning as you’re getting used to a new way of eating.

If going gluten-free is a medical necessity, then absolutely hook up with a registered dietitian who can eating a healthy diet again, says Begun.

General Mills Adopts ‘Always On’ Acquisition Approach As ‘Ongoing Part Of Our Accelerate Strategy’

Since fiscal 2018, General Mills has turned over roughly 15% of its net sales base through acquisitions and divestitures, which increased its “Growth exposure by a full point” – establishing a promising path for ongoing, steady growth in the coming years, General Mills CEO and chairman Jeff Harmening told investment analysts yesterday during the Consumer Analyst Group of New York’s annual conference.

“We don’t see M&A as an episodic activity, but rather an ongoing part of our accelerate strategy. As a result, [our] new strategy and growth organization has built an always on M&A capability focused on sourcing and executing acquisitions and divestitures and capturing best practices that we can leverage in future transitions,” he explained.

In particular, he said, with General Mills’ “Balance sheet in a healthy position, we’re actively looking for growth, accretive acquisitions focused in our core markets that play in current or new growth platforms and where we can leverage our capabilities to create value.”. As an example, Harmening pointed to General Mills’ acquisitions in the pet food space, including Blue Buffalo, net sales for which have grown more than 10% to $600m since the acquisition in Spring 2018.

We’re open to divestitures of growth dilutive businesses that have lower returns on investment and where General Mills is not uniquely positioned to win,” Harmening said.

The company’s combined acquisitions and divestitures to date have “Put our enterprise growth solidly within our long term 2-3% organic net sales growth target,” Harmening said, noting, “Additional portfolio changes from here will help us move towards the higher end of that range.”.Innovating close to home and in fast-developing areas.

General Mills also is committed to growing its business through innovation, ranging from new product development within its core platforms to expanding into white space previously untapped by the business, Dana McNabb, chief strategy and growth officer, said at the CAGNY conference.

Through the combination of mergers, acquisitions and innovation, along side other strategic moves, General Mills aims to deliver a 2-3% compound annual growth rate for organic net sales in the coming year over fiscal 2018 with modest margin expansion around the mid-single digits, CFO Kofi Bruce said during the conference.

General Mills Making Gains In Tough Environment

MINNEAPOLIS – A data driven approach to help General Mills, Inc. win in the marketplace is yielding measurably positive results, the company’s executives said in a recent presentation.

Still, despite beneficial shifts in the company’s product portfolio and a culturally-informed approach toward marketing, long-term financial targets will not be met this year because of a challenging operating environment.

Accelerate is a roadmap for the company’s path toward long-term profitable growth and relies strongly on achieving success in North America, a market that accounted for 85% of General Mills sales in fiscal 2021, Mr. Harmening said.

“We divested or have agreements to divest lower growth, lower margin businesses, including yogurt in Europe and Brazil and dough in Europe and Argentina. We acquired high-growth businesses like Blue Buffalo pet food and Nudges True Chews and Top Chews dog treats. And we’ve successfully integrated these acquisitions into the General Mills portfolio and continue to fuel their growth.”

Mr. Harmening credited the portfolio shifts for helping General Mills hit the high end of its long-term sales growth targets of 2% to 3% over the last couple years.

Mr. Bruce said the profitability setback this year stands in contrast to the last few, in which General Mills’ objective of mid-single-digit growth in operating profits has been achieved.

For fiscal 2022, he said General Mills expects full year organic net sales to increase 4% to 5%, constant currency adjusted operating profit to be down 1% to 4% and constant currency adjusted diluted earnings per share to range between down 2% and up 1%..

Post Idea #6: Dental braces

Related Articles – Summarized

Dental Braces

Braces are dental orthodontic appliances used to straighten teeth and align your bite.

How do braces work? They fix problems with tooth and jaw alignment by exerting light constant pressure on the tooth roots for an extended period of time.

Once treatment is complete and braces are removed, a retainer is usually worn until the teeth are completely settled into their new location.

Traditional braces – These devices consist of stainless steel brackets that attach to the front of the teeth.

Ceramic braces – These appliances work just like traditional braces, except the brackets used are ceramic.

Lingual braces – Like most other braces, these devices employ brackets and wires to correct issues with alignment.

There’s a misconception that braces are only for children – they’re not! If you are wondering if you’re a good candidate for braces, we recommend checking in with your dentist or orthodontist who will be able to give you a fair evaluation.

Dental Braces

Dental braces are devices used in orthodontics that align and straighten teeth and help position them with regard to a person’s bite, while also aiming to improve dental health.

Dental braces are often used in conjunction with other orthodontic appliances to help widen the palate or jaws and to otherwise assist in shaping the teeth and jaws.

The application of braces moves the teeth as a result of force and pressure on the teeth.

Lingual braces are a cosmetic alternative in which custom-made braces are bonded to the back of the teeth making them externally invisible.

About 2 weeks before the braces are applied, orthodontic spacers may be required to spread apart back teeth in order to create enough space for the bands.

Patients may need post-orthodontic surgery, such as a fiberotomy or alternatively a gum lift, to prepare their teeth for retainer use and improve the gumline contours after the braces come off.

The formation of plaques around the teeth of patients with braces is almost inevitable regardless of plaque control and can result in mild gingivitis.

Dental Braces And Retainers: Types, Care, What To Expect

Braces are dental tools that help correct problems with your teeth, like crowding, crooked teeth, or teeth that are out of alignment.

If you have crooked teeth and/or a misaligned bite, there are a variety of treatments that can help straighten teeth, including braces and retainers, custom-made, removable or fixed tools that cover the outside of your teeth and help keep them in position.

Lingual braces: The brackets on these braces are attached to the backs of your teeth, facing your tongue.

The orthodontist will want to see you about every month or so in order to make sure the braces are putting steady pressure on your teeth.

After your braces come off, the orthodontist will thoroughly clean your teeth.

If your wisdom teeth are beginning to come in after the braces are removed, the dentist or orthodontist may suggest you get them pulled to prevent newly straightened teeth from shifting.

The price varies, depending on how much work is being done, the type of braces being used, and where you live, but you can expect traditional metal braces to cost about $5,000.

What Are The Different Types Of Braces, And Which Is Right For Me?

The archwires are connected to the brackets using tiny elastics known as ligatures or o-rings, which your orthodontist will change each time he tightens the braces.

Some types of braces have brackets that don’t need o-rings, and these are called self-ligating braces.

Ceramic braces work in the same way as traditional braces, but the brackets are a clear, transparent ceramic material.

Patients wearing these types of braces occasionally find that the elastics become discolored, which can sometimes cause discoloration or marks on your teeth.

These braces produce faster results because the teeth can move on their own without needing to be adjusted.

Clear aligners are a type of orthodontic appliance that you can use instead of metal or self-litigating braces.

This movement expands your palate and makes it possible for other types of braces to be fitted to correct the position of your teeth.

Dental Braces/ Brackets / Teeth Aligners

Why should you go for braces or aligners Teeth that are overlapping and ” crowded” are difficult to clean, putting you at a risk of cavities and gum disease.

METAL BRACES / TRADITIONAL BRACES. These are most economical type of braces.

LESS VISIBLE BRACES – CERAMIC BRACES. These are the ceramic or tooth colored replicas of the metal braces.

INVISIBLE BRACES – LINGUAL BRACES. Braces have conventionally been fitted to the front of the teeth , making them visible during the entire course of the treatment.

INCOGNITO. SELF LIGATING BRACES. Orthodontists move teeth through the use of specialized metal or ceramic braces, which permits the application of steady pressure over time to move teeth into their ideal positions.

Self-Ligating braces offer a number of benefits compared to traditional braces.

CLEAR ALIGNERS. For those who cannot go through the process of fixing braces to their teeth we have the aligners.

Types Of Braces

Today’s orthodontics offer more kinds of braces than ever before.

These are the metal brackets and wires that most people picture when they hear the word “Braces.” However, modern brackets are smaller and less noticeable than the notorious “Metal-mouth” braces that many adults remember.

Ceramic braces are the same size and shape as metal braces, except that they have tooth-colored or clear brackets that blend in to teeth.

Lingual braces are the same as traditional metal braces, except that the brackets and wires are placed on the inside of teeth.

Pros: Invisible from outsideCons: Difficult to clean; more expensive; not appropriate for severe cases; can be more uncomfortable at first; regular adjustments take longer and are more difficult than with traditional braces.

Braces with wires and brackets leave teeth more vulnerable to trapped plaque and food debris, which may cause staining and possibly tooth decay.

Another option to help keep teeth and gums clean and healthy while wearing braces is an electric toothbrush quipped with specialized brush heads like Oral-B Power Tip Brush Heads which can help remove more plaque from in-between teeth and tight spaces such as brackets and wires.

4 Types Of Braces

Braces are orthodontic devices that straighten crooked and misaligned teeth.

The most popular types of dental braces use brackets, which are small, square-shaped pieces of metal or ceramic.

There are many different types and over a hundred brands of braces to choose from.

Clear ceramic braces mirror the size and shape of metal braces but are actually made of porcelain.

The main difference between the two types is that clear braces have tooth-colored brackets, which means they blend in with natural teeth and are less noticeable.

Lingual braces are a lesser-known, alternative option to traditional metal braces.

Lingual braces use the same hardware and methods as traditional “Outside” braces.

Machine Learning

A subset of machine learning is closely related to computational statistics, which focuses on making predictions using computers; but not all machine learning is statistical learning.

A representative book of the machine learning research during the 1960s was the Nilsson’s book on Learning Machines, dealing mostly with machine learning for pattern classification.

Tom M. Mitchell provided a widely quoted, more formal definition of the algorithms studied in the machine learning field: “A computer program is said to learn from experience E with respect to some class of tasks T and performance measure P if its performance at tasks in T, as measured by P, improves with experience E.” This definition of the tasks in which machine learning is concerned offers a fundamentally operational definition rather than defining the field in cognitive terms.

Data mining uses many machine learning methods, but with different goals; on the other hand, machine learning also employs data mining methods as “Unsupervised learning” or as a preprocessing step to improve learner accuracy.

The difference between optimization and machine learning arises from the goal of generalization: while optimization algorithms can minimize the loss on a training set, machine learning is concerned with minimizing the loss on unseen samples.

Rule-based machine learning is a general term for any machine learning method that identifies, learns, or evolves “Rules” to store, manipulate or apply knowledge.

Learning classifier systems are a family of rule-based machine learning algorithms that combine a discovery component, typically a genetic algorithm, with a learning component, performing either supervised learning, reinforcement learning, or unsupervised learning.

What Is Machine Learning?

Since deep learning and machine learning tend to be used interchangeably, it’s worth noting the nuances between the two.

Deep learning is actually a sub-field of machine learning, and neural networks is a sub-field of deep learning.

The way in which deep learning and machine learning differ is in how each algorithm learns.

Unlike machine learning, it doesn’t require human intervention to process data, allowing us to scale machine learning in more interesting ways.

See the blog post “AI vs. Machine Learning vs. Deep Learning vs. Neural Networks: What’s the Difference?” for a closer look at how the different concepts relate.

UC Berkeley breaks out the learning system of a machine learning algorithm into three main parts.

Reinforcement machine learning is a behavioral machine learning model that is similar to supervised learning, but the algorithm isn’t trained using sample data.

What Is Machine Learning?

Machine learning is the process of using mathematical models of data to help a computer learn without direct instruction.

How machine learning relates to AI. Machine learning is considered a subset of AI. An “Intelligent” computer thinks like a human and carries out tasks on its own.

Although machine learning is a type of predictive analytics, a notable nuance is that machine learning is significantly easier to implement with real-time updating as it gains more data.

Deep learning is a specialized form of machine learning, using neural networks to deliver answers.

Able to determine accuracy on its own, deep learning classifies information like a human brain-and powers some of the most human-like AI. The benefits of machine learning Machine learning has many applications-and the possibilities are constantly expanding.

How different industries use machine learning Businesses across industries are using machine learning in a wide variety of ways.

Simplify the way you build and deploy models with no-code automated machine learning capabilities, open-source support, and robust DevOps for machine learning.

Machine Learning, Explained

“So that’s why some people use the terms AI and machine learning almost as synonymous most of the current advances in AI have involved machine learning.”

“Machine learning is changing, or will change, every industry, and leaders need to understand the basic principles, the potential, and the limitations,” said MIT computer science professor Aleksander Madry, director of the MIT Center for Deployable Machine Learning.

Like neural networks, deep learning is modeled on the way the human brain works and powers many machine learning uses, like autonomous vehicles, chatbots, and medical diagnostics.

“In my opinion, one of the hardest problems in machine learning is figuring out what problems I can solve with machine learning,” Shulman said.

The way to unleash machine learning success, the researchers found, was to reorganize jobs into discrete tasks, some which can be done by machine learning, and others that require a human.

While machine learning is fueling technology that can help workers or open new possibilities for businesses, there are several things business leaders should know about machine learning and its limits.

A basic understanding of machine learning is important, LaRovere said, but finding the right machine learning use ultimately rests on people with different expertise working together.

How It Works, Techniques & Applications

A supervised learning algorithm takes a known set of input data and known responses to the data and trains a model to generate reasonable predictions for the response to new data.

Supervised learning uses classification and regression techniques to develop machine learning models.

Classification techniques predict discrete responses-for example, whether an email is genuine or spam, or whether a tumor is cancerous or benign.

Applications for hand-writing recognition use classification to recognize letters and numbers.

Regression techniques predict continuous responses-for example, changes in temperature or fluctuations in power demand.

Use regression techniques if you are working with a data range or if the nature of your response is a real number, such as temperature or the time until failure for a piece of equipment.

Common regression algorithms include linear model, nonlinear model, regularization, stepwise regression, boosted and bagged decision trees, neural networks, and adaptive neuro-fuzzy learning.

Definition, Types, And Examples

Machine learning – and its components of deep learning and neural networks – all fit as concentric subsets of AI. AI processes data to make decisions and predictions.

Machine learning algorithms allow AI to not only process that data, but to use it to learn and get smarter, without needing any additional programming.

Examples of deep learning applications include speech recognition, image classification, and pharmaceutical analysis.

Machine learning is comprised of different types of machine learning models, using various algorithmic techniques.

Supervised learning is the first of four machine learning models.

Common examples of unsupervised learning applications include facial recognition, gene sequence analysis, market research, and cybersecurity.

In supervised learning, the machine is given the answer key and learns by finding correlations among all the correct outcomes.

Machine Learning is the field of study that gives computers the capability to learn without being explicitly programmed.

Machine learning is actively being used today, perhaps in many more places than one would expect.

Data Science

Data science is related to data mining, machine learning and big data.

Data science is a “Concept to unify statistics, data analysis, informatics, and their related methods” in order to “Understand and analyze actual phenomena” with data.

Turing Award winner Jim Gray imagined data science as a “Fourth paradigm” of science and asserted that “Everything about science is changing because of the impact of information technology” and the data deluge.

Data science is an interdisciplinary field focused on extracting knowledge from data sets, which are typically large, and applying the knowledge and actionable insights from data to solve problems in a wide range of application domains.

Stanford professor David Donoho writes that data science is not distinguished from statistics by the size of datasets or use of computing, and that many graduate programs misleadingly advertise their analytics and statistics training as the essence of a data science program.

“Data science” became more widely used in the next few years: in 2002, the Committee on Data for Science and Technology launched Data Science Journal.

In 2014, the American Statistical Association’s Section on Statistical Learning and Data Mining changed its name to the Section on Statistical Learning and Data Science, reflecting the ascendant popularity of data science.

The Data Science Career Path

Data science continues to evolve as one of the most promising and in-demand career paths for skilled professionals.

Today, successful data professionals understand that they must advance past the traditional skills of analyzing large amounts of data, data mining, and programming skills.

In order to uncover useful intelligence for their organizations, data scientists must master the full spectrum of the data science life cycle and possess a level of flexibility and understanding to maximize returns at each phase of the process.

Effective data scientists are able to identify relevant questions, collect data from a multitude of different data sources, organize the information, translate results into solutions, and communicate their findings in a way that positively affects business decisions.

Glassdoor ranked data scientist among the top three jobs in America since 2016.4 As increasing amounts of data become more accessible, large tech companies are no longer the only ones in need of data scientists.

They focus on the development, deployment, management, and optimization of data pipelines and infrastructure to transform and transfer data to data scientists for querying.

Gaining specialized skills within the data science field can distinguish data scientists even further.

What Is A Data Scientist?

Data scientists are big data wranglers, gathering and analyzing large sets of structured and unstructured data.

Experienced data scientists and data managers are tasked with developing a company’s best practices, from cleaning to processing and storing data.

Some treat their data scientists as data analysts or combine their duties with data engineers; others need top-level analytics experts skilled in intense machine learning and data visualizations.

“Successful data scientists have a strong technical background, but the best data scientists also have great intuition about data. Are the features meaningful, and do they reflect what you think they should mean? Given the way your data is distributed, which model should you be using? What does it mean if a value is missing, and what should you do with it? The best data scientists are also great at communicating, both to other data scientists and non-technical people. In order to be effective at Airbnb, our analyses have to be both technically rigorous and presented in a clear and actionable way to other members of the company.”

Some data scientists get their foot in the door working as entry-level data analysts, extracting structured data from MySQL databases or CRM systems, developing basic visualizations in Tableau or analyzing A/B test results.

The first step to becoming a data scientist is typically earning a bachelor’s degree in data science or a related field, but there are other ways to learn data science skills such as a bootcamp or through the military.

Most data scientists are familiar with programming languages such as R and Python, as well as statistical analysis, data visualization, machine learning techniques, data cleaning, research and data warehouses and structures.

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence is intelligence demonstrated by machines, as opposed to natural intelligence displayed by animals including humans.

Artificial beings with intelligence appeared as storytelling devices in antiquity, and have been common in fiction, as in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein or Karel Čapek’s R.U.R. These characters and their fates raised many of the same issues now discussed in the ethics of artificial intelligence.

A machine with general intelligence can solve a wide variety of problems with a breadth and versatility similar to human intelligence.

AI researchers are divided as to whether to pursue the goals of artificial general intelligence and superintelligence directly, or to solve as many specific problems as possible in hopes these solutions will lead indirectly to the field’s long-term goals General intelligence is difficult to define and difficult to measure, and modern AI has had more verifiable successes by focussing on specific problems with specific solutions.

Its intelligence would increase exponentially in an intelligence explosion and could dramatically surpass humans.

The regulation of artificial intelligence is the development of public sector policies and laws for promoting and regulating artificial intelligence; it is therefore related to the broader regulation of algorithms.

“Democracy has no clear answer for the mindless operation of bureaucratic and technological power. We may indeed be witnessing its extension in the form of artificial intelligence and robotics. Likewise, after decades of dire warning, the environmental problem remains fundamentally unaddressed…. Bureaucratic overreach and environmental catastrophe are precisely the kinds of slow-moving existential challenges that democracies deal with very badly…. Finally, there is the threat du jour: corporations and the technologies they promote.”… Artificial Intelligence.

What Is Artificial Intelligence?

It also encompasses sub-fields of machine learning and deep learning, which are frequently mentioned in conjunction with artificial intelligence.

Artificial general intelligence, or general AI, is a theoretical form of AI where a machine would have an intelligence equaled to humans; it would have a self-aware consciousness that has the ability to solve problems, learn, and plan for the future.

As mentioned above, both deep learning and machine learning are sub-fields of artificial intelligence, and deep learning is actually a sub-field of machine learning.

The way in which deep learning and machine learning differ is in how each algorithm learns.

You can think of deep learning as “Scalable machine learning” as Lex Fridman noted in same MIT lecture from above.

“Deep” machine learning can leverage labeled datasets, also known as supervised learning, to inform its algorithm, but it doesn’t necessarily require a labeled dataset.

Unlike machine learning, it doesn’t require human intervention to process data, allowing us to scale machine learning in more interesting ways.

What Is AI? / Basic Questions

A. No. Intelligence involves mechanisms, and AI research has discovered how to make computers carry out some of them and not others.

AI researchers are free to use methods that are not observed in people or that involve much more computing than people can do.

Q. Does AI aim to put the human mind into the computer?

Because many billions of dollars that have been spent in making computers faster and faster, another kind of machine would have to be very fast to perform better than a program on a computer simulating the machine.

Of course, quite apart from the ambitions of AI researchers, computers will keep getting faster.

AI programs haven’t yet reached the level of being able to learn much of what a child learns from physical experience.

Success in problem solving by humans and by AI programs seems to rely on properties of problems and problem solving methods that the neither the complexity researchers nor the AI community have been able to identify precisely.

Artificial Intelligence

In a famous Mind paper of 1950, Alan Turing argues that the question “Can a machine think?” to the natural numbers that a Turing machine or equivalent can handle) should be replaced with the question “Can a machine be linguistically indistinguishable from a human?” Specifically, he proposes a test, the “Turing Test” as it’s now known.

“Strong” AI seeks to create artificial persons: machines that have all the mental powers we have, including phenomenal consciousness.

In reply, Searle points out that since CRA is sound, there can’t be conscious machines; and if there can’t be conscious machines, there can’t be malevolent machines that wish anything.

8.3 The Gödelian Argument Against “Strong AI”. Four decades ago, J.R. Lucas argued that Gödel’s first incompleteness theorem entails that no machine can ever reach human-level intelligence.

The judgment of the reader in this regard ought to factor in the stunning resurgence, very recently, of serious reflection on what is known as “The Singularity,” the future point at which artificial intelligence exceeds human intelligence, whereupon immediately thereafter the machines make themselves rapidly smarter and smarter and smarter, reaching a superhuman level of intelligence that, stuck as we are in the mud of our limited mentation, we can’t fathom.

Even if we don’t allow the machines to make decisions, the control of such machines is likely to be held by a small elite who will view the rest of humanity as unnecessary – since the machines can do any needed work.

His rationale is dirt-simple: Machines aren’t conscious; Bostrom is alarmed at the prospect of malicious machines who do us in; a malicious machine is by definition a conscious machine; ergo, Bostrom’s argument doesn’t work.

What Is Artificial Intelligence

There are four types of AI:. Reactive MachinesLimited MemoryTheory of MindSelf-AwarenessSimple classification and pattern recognition tasksComplex classification tasksUnderstands human reasoning and motivesHuman-level intelligence that can by-pass human intelligence tooGreat when all parameters are knownUses historical data to make predictionsNeeds fewer examples to learn because it understands motivesSense of self-consciousnessCan’t deal with imperfect informationCurrent state of AINext milestone for the evolution of AIDoes not exist yet.

Deep Learning, Big Data, and Artificial General Intelligence: With computing systems becoming more and more powerful, it is now possible to process large amounts of data and train our machines to make better decisions.

What happens once we collect the data? We will feed the labeled data, i.e., 80 percent of the data, into the machine.

Artificial Intelligence works with large amounts of data that are first combined with the fast, iterative processing and smart algorithms that allow the system to learn from the patterns within the data.

Data Science, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence are interconnected, but each one of them uniquely serves a different purpose.

Can’t think for Itself: Artificial Intelligence aims to process data and make a conscious decision as we humans do.

Banks feed their Artificial Intelligence systems with data regarding both fraudulent and non-fraudulent transactions.

What Is An Electronic Health Record?

An electronic health record is a digital version of a patient’s paper chart.

EHRs are real-time, patient-centered records that make information available instantly and securely to authorized users.

While an EHR does contain the medical and treatment histories of patients, an EHR system is built to go beyond standard clinical data collected in a provider’s office and can be inclusive of a broader view of a patient’s care.

Contain a patient’s medical history, diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, immunization dates, allergies, radiology images, and laboratory and test results.

Allow access to evidence-based tools that providers can use to make decisions about a patient’s care.

One of the key features of an EHR is that health information can be created and managed by authorized providers in a digital format capable of being shared with other providers across more than one health care organization.

EHRs are built to share information with other health care providers and organizations – such as laboratories, specialists, medical imaging facilities, pharmacies, emergency facilities, and school and workplace clinics – so they contain information from all clinicians involved in a patient’s care.

Electronic Health Records

The databases are known by the terms electronic medical records, electronic health record or personal health records.

A patient should be able to enter any health care setting, provide authorization, and then consult with a provider who has ready access to his complete health record.

If the National Health Information Infrastructure is activated, EHR implementation should allow us and our patients to participate.

Clinical oncology, with its emphasis on clinical trials and on the gathering of longitudinal data on patients represents a natural arena for EHRs.Government and other third-party payers, our patients and other constituents of the health care system now acknowledge that doctors and hospitals alone cannot underwrite the cost of adopting health care information technology since physicians are unlikely to reap most of the financial benefits resulting from technology use.

Provide our patients with access to their health records, disease management tools and health information resources.

Patients will be able to maintain copies of their own personal health records, choose physicians, e-mail care providers, make appointments, refill prescriptions and receive prevention and screening reminders.

Health care informatics can improve ways in which we and our staffs carry out nearly every aspect of our practices, even in the way we connect humanly to our patients.

Electronic Health Record

The Electronic Health Record website is designed primarily for IHS, Tribal, and Urban Indian health care facilities that are actively involved in implementation of the EHR, or are contemplating doing so in the near future.

It provides a variety of information about the EHR product, as well as links to a number of helpful documents.

The Indian Health Service has long been a pioneer in using computer technology to capture clinical and public health data.

The IHS clinical information system is called the Resource and Patient Management System.

Its development began nearly 30 years ago, and many facilities have access to decades of personal health information and epidemiological data on local populations.

The primary clinical component of RPMS, Patient Care Component, was launched in 1984.

The RPMS EHR graphical user interface represents the next phase of clinical software development for the IHS..

EHR Software Application

EHR software allows you to access your patient’s records instantly in real time.

Start in minutes, not days Kareo Clinical is cloud-based so there’s no software to download and no hardware to install.

Kareo Clinical EHR is built just for independent practices, and was designed by healthcare providers, so it has the key features you want and is surprisingly easy to use.

Dictation software listed is not included with Kareo Clinical and must be purchased separately if you need to dictate.

Kareo EHR gives you document storage, so you can upload paper charts, intake forms or whatever else you may need to store clinical data.

CLINICAL. Kareo Clinical delivers the EHR you always wanted.

VA EHR Modernization

Transforming Health Care for Veterans, Revolutionizing Health Care for All VA is transitioning to a new electronic health record system – the software that stores health information and tracks all aspects of patient care – over a 10-year period scheduled to end in 2028.

The new system connects VA medical facilities with the Department of Defense, the U.S. Coast Guard and participating community care providers, allowing clinicians to easily access a Veteran’s full medical history in one location.

The VA EHRM Integration Office manages deployment of the new system.

Electronic Health Record Modernization provides a seamless and paperless transition for Veterans as they transition from receiving care at DOD while on active duty to receiving care at VA facilities.

The EHRM program’s first deployment took place in fall 2020 at select locations in the Pacific Northwest, and preparation for future sites is underway.

Electronic Health Record

An electronic health record is the systematized collection of patient and population electronically stored health information in a digital format.

The electronic health record is a more longitudinal collection of the electronic health information of individual patients or populations.

The EMR, in contrast, is the patient record created by providers for specific encounters in hospitals and ambulatory environments and can serve as a data source for an EHR. In contrast, a personal health record is an electronic application for recording personal medical data that the individual patient controls and may make available to health providers.

The increased transparency, portability, and accessibility acquired by the adoption of electronic medical records may increase the ease with which they can be accessed by healthcare professionals, but also can increase the amount of stolen information by unauthorized persons or unscrupulous users versus paper medical records, as acknowledged by the increased security requirements for electronic medical records included in the Health Information and Accessibility Act and by large-scale breaches in confidential records reported by EMR users.

Mobile devices are increasingly able to sync up with electronic health record systems thus allowing physicians to access patient records from remote locations.

If a malpractice claim goes to court, through the process of discovery, the prosecution can request a detailed record of all entries made in a patient’s electronic record.

Cross-border and Interoperable electronic health record systems make confidential data more easily and rapidly accessible to a wider audience and increase the risk that personal data concerning health could be accidentally exposed or easily distributed to unauthorised parties by enabling greater access to a compilation of the personal data concerning health, from different sources, and throughout a lifetime.

How To Get Copies Of Your Medical Records

Historically, medical records were kept and maintained by the primary care provider.

Unless you are in a healthcare system which provides you access to your electronic medical records, you will need to take steps to request copies for yourself.

Many people assume that only they or their designees can obtain copies of their medical records.

The age of a particular set of records also can affect the ability to obtain them-most providers, including healthcare providers, hospitals, and labs, are required to keep adult medical records for at least six years, although this can vary by state.

If your healthcare provider retires or is no longer in practice, all medical records must still be maintained under the law.

Under the law, the medical records should be transferred to another healthcare provider that agrees to accept the responsibility.

Knowing what is in your medical records can be every bit as important as seeing a healthcare provider in the first place.

Post Idea #14: Strike action

What Is A Strike Action?

More commonly known as a strike, a strike action is what happens when a group of employees conduct a work stoppage.

A strike is not usually just a form of protest in the workplace; workers generally use a strike action to pressure employers into meeting demands before returning to work.

Depending on a region or country’s labor laws, a strike action may or may not be a legally protected form of protest.

These types of strike actions are sometimes called sympathy strikes.

To indisputably be considered a general strike, the strike action has to involve a large section of a community, uniting laborers and non-laborers in protest against a common grievance.

In what’s known as a sick-out, for example, a workforce might collectively call in sick, creating a strike under the protective guise of another action.

At times, unions will negotiate with employers to have certain demands met in order to avoid a strike action.

Tube Staff And Lecturers Are Showing How To Stage A Strike In The 21st Century

Two weeks ago, university lecturers were striking on the same principle, though more recently their actions have also been centred on the whole spectrum of declining pay and conditions – a pension raid is often just the most visible edge of a wider erosion of rights.

The more conventional attacks on strikes in any sector follow the same broad contours: why should they get pensions and pay rises and job security when most people don’t? Why should a tube driver be paid £55,000 a year, or a GP £70,000, when most people earn less than that? Shouldn’t they pipe down if they’re so keen on equality?

Thus the anti-industrial action argument is distilled to its purest form: why should they be allowed to strike at all, when you can’t, and if you did, you would be instantly replaced, provided you were on the rota that day and anyone noticed you were striking?

In an age where jobs with rights and the potential for strike action are concentrating in the public sector, the effects are mainly felt by citizens, rather than employers, to the extent that the collateral becomes the whole of the damage.

Sectors should be collaborating so that non-essential workers can strike on behalf of essential workers.

In the early 80s, the strike of chemists’ shop assistants in Bradford and elsewhere in West Yorkshire involved the staff protesting by giving out free prescriptions.

The strike of the bureaucrats in unemployment benefits offices, also in the 80s, targeted the system not the claimants.

Warning Of ‘Lager Shortage’ If Proposed Strike Action At Livingston-Based GXO Goes Ahead

The union is warning pubs nationwide could run dry of lager if 1,700 beer delivery workers employed by GXO vote for strike action.

Workers at GXO who deliver lager to more than 20,000 UK hospitality venues but could vote for strike action over claims of delayed payments and underpayments of wages, pension contributions and holiday pay.

Unite claim the issues have stemmed from a new payroll system brought in by GXO could result in a lager ‘drought’ across the country if the workers vote for strike action in the ballot, which opens on 4 March and closes on 18 March.

“Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said:”Our members at GXO have had enough – they should be paid what they are owed and on time.

A consultative ballot by Unite held late last year over whether its members at GXO, formerly known as XPO, wanted to proceed to a full-scale industrial action ballot, with the option to strike, returned a 99 per cent majority in favour.

“Unite national officer for food, drink and agriculture, Joe Clarke, said:”Through its actions, GXO is in danger of creating a nationwide lager drought just as the hospitality industry is recovering from the pandemic.

“A GXO spokesperson said:”We are committed to being an employer of choice for our employees and our customers.

Job Action Looms For Vancouver Island Regional Library Employees – Comox Valley Record

Vancouver Island Regional Library’s union employees may begin job action as early as Thursday, March 3.

The collective agreement between the VIRL and BC General Employees’ Union Local 702 expired on Dec. 31, 2020 and the two sides have been bargaining since September 2021.

On Feb. 22 the union – which represents 42 full time employees, or 12 per cent of VIRL’s permanent workforce – announced it had voted 95 per cent in favour of job action and two days later, the BCGEU served 72-hour strike notice.

VIRL’s CUPE Local 401 employees, which represents 55 per cent of VIRL’s permanent workforce – will honour any BCGEU picket lines.

“Job action may include primary, secondary or rotational picketing at VIRL locations,” said a press release issued by David Carson, the director of corporate communications for VIRL. “As a result, we regret that VIRL’s service delivery will be impacted, though precise impacts remain unclear at this time. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and commit to continuing constructive efforts towards bargaining resolution with our valued colleagues.”

VIRL employees who belong to BCGEU Local 702 are professional librarians and colleagues who work at 20 of 39 branches, and in the VIRL’s Information Technology, Collections, and Support Services divisions.

Of VIRL’s 2022 operating budget of $31 million, 95 per cent is fixed costs and 65 per cent of those are wages and benefits.

Strike Action

In The Outline of History, H. G. Wells characterized this event as “The general strike of the plebeians; the plebeians seem to have invented the strike, which now makes its first appearance in history.” Their first strike occurred because they “Saw with indignation their friends, who had often served the state bravely in the legions, thrown into chains and reduced to slavery at the demand of patrician creditors”.

A sympathy strike is, in a way, a small scale version of a general strike in which one group of workers refuses to cross a picket line established by another as a means of supporting the striking workers.

Solidarity strike: a strike in which people strike for others, they aren’t experiencing the problem but they strike to help solve the problem.

Recent cases include the cancellation of the 2015 strike of the company providing transportation services in Milan during Expo 2015, and the 2007 precettazione to stop the strike of the truck drivers that was causing food and fuel shortage after several days of strike.

Any union conducting a strike action typically seeks to include a provision of amnesty for all who honored the picket line in the agreement that settles the strike.

If the strike is due to unfair labor practices, the strikers replaced can demand immediate reinstatement when the strike ends.

In the UK, “It is important to understand that there is no right to strike in UK law.” Employees who strike risk dismissal, unless it is an official strike in which case they are protected from unlawful dismissal, and cannot be fired for at least 12 weeks.

Canadian Pacific Railway

In 2006, the Canadian government issued a formal apology to the Chinese population in Canada for their treatment both during and following the construction of the CPR. By 1883, railway construction was progressing rapidly, but the CPR was in danger of running out of funds.

In Eastern Canada, the CPR had created a network of lines reaching from Quebec City to St. Thomas, Ontario, by 1885 – mainly by buying the Quebec, Montreal, Ottawa & Occidental Railway from the Quebec government and by creating a new railway company, the Ontario and Quebec Railway.

In 2001, the CPR’s parent company, Canadian Pacific Limited, spun off its five subsidiaries, including the CPR, into independent companies.

For several decades this was the only long stretch of double-track mainline outside of urban areas on the CPR. Today, though the Thunder Bay-Winnipeg section is now single tracked, the CPR still has two long distance double track lines serving rural areas, including a 121-kilometre stretch between Kent, British Columbia, and Vancouver which follows the Fraser River into the Coast Mountains, as well as the Canadian Pacific Winchester Sub, a 160-kilometre stretch of double track mainline which runs from Smiths Falls, Ontario, through downtown Montreal which runs through many rural farming communities.

CPR did not end up pursuing these applications but instead operated a phantom station in Toronto known as “CPRY,” with initials standing for “Canadian Pacific Royal York” which operated out of studios at CP’s Royal York Hotel and leased time on CFRB and CKGW. A network of affiliates carried the CPR radio network’s broadcasts in the first half of the 1930s, but the takeover of CNR’s Radio service by the new Canadian Radio Broadcasting Commission removed CPR’s need to have a network for competitive reasons and CPR’s radio service was discontinued in 1935.

The Canadian Pacific Railway Coast Service was established when the CPR acquired in 1901 Canadian Pacific Navigation Company and its large fleet of ships that served 72 ports along the coast of British Columbia including on Vancouver Island.

In 1949, the CPR acquired 13 Baldwin-designed locomotives from the Canadian Locomotive Company for its isolated Esquimalt and Nanaimo Railway and Vancouver Island was quickly dieselized.

Canadian Pacific Railway Strike Threat Latest Disruption To Fertilizer Supply

A potential work stoppage comes amid concerns of shortfalls in supplies amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and sanctions on Belarus.

A labour dispute at one of Canada’s largest railways is threatening to further disrupt global supplies of fertilizer just as farmers need key nutrients to plant spring crops.

About 3,000 workers at Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd. have voted for a plan to strike March 16, if necessary, according to their union.

“The disruption at CP in the middle of spring has a potential devastating impact on the ability to supply the American farmer,” said Jeff Blair, chief executive officer of GreenPoint Ag, an agriculture supply company in the southern U.S. ‘It’s been a great place for us’: Kinross keeps mining in Russia despite widespread exodus.

The union leadership “Appears poised to force a shutdown of the essential rail supply chain” in mid-March by making unreasonable demands, she said.

“A work stoppage of any duration at CP will impact virtually all commodities within the Canadian supply chain, thereby crippling the performance of Canada’s trade-dependent economy,” Woodrow said.

Canadian Pacific Railway: Map, History, Logo & Pictures

Canadian Pacific was the country’s first and its story is impressive, even when compared to great U.S. systems like the Pennsylvania, New York Central, Santa Fe, and Union Pacific.

On March 21, 2021 Canadian Pacific announced it would be acquiring Kansas City Southern for $25 billion.

Much like the Union Pacific and Central Pacific helped bolster a growing United States through completion of the Transcontinental Railroad so too did the Canadian Pacific in its native lands.

Wishing only for a truly Canadian route the original CP scheme died; after nearly a decade hope was renewed when strong leadership through George Stephen, president of the Bank of Montreal, led to the Canadian Pacific Railway Company’s incorporation on February 16, 1881.

William Kaye Lamb notes in his book, “History Of The Canadian Pacific Railway,” initial plans called for CP and Grand Trunk to work together in providing transcontinental service across the country.

As Mr. Lamb’s book points out federal legislation also stipulated that the A&N-W would lease, “Such a portion of the line as may be necessary to carry the Canadian Pacific to the Atlantic Coast.”

The contemporary Canadian Pacific was much more than just a railroad. It operated a very successful cruise line and a large hotel chain.

International Brotherhood Of Teamsters

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, also known as the Teamsters Union, is a labor union in the United States and Canada.

Formed in 1903 by the merger of The Team Drivers International Union and The Teamsters National Union, the union now represents a diverse membership of blue-collar and professional workers in both the public and private sectors.

In 1901, a group of teamsters in Chicago, Illinois, broke from the TDIU and formed the Teamsters National Union.

Unlike the TDIU, which permitted large employers to be members, the new Teamsters National Union permitted only employees, teamster helpers, and owner-operators owning only a single team to join, and advocated higher wages and shorter hours more aggressively than the TDIU. Claiming more than 28,000 members in 47 locals, its president, Albert Young, applied for membership in the AFL. The AFL asked the TDIU to merge with Young’s union to form a new, AFL-affiliated union and the two groups did so in 1903, forming the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, and electing Cornelius Shea as the new union’s first president.

The UFW signed an agreement with Fitzsimmons in March 1977 in which the UFW agreed to seek to organize only those workers covered by the California Agricultural Labor Relations Act, while the Teamsters retained jurisdiction over some agricultural workers, who had been covered by Teamsters Local Union contracts prior to the formation of the UFW. In October 1973, Fitzsimmons ended the long-running jurisdictional dispute with the United Brewery Workers, and the Brewery Workers merged with the Teamsters.

The union has merged in recent years with a number of unions from other industries, including the Graphic Communications International Union, a printing industry union, and the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes and Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, both from the railway industry.

The Teamsters United slate, aligned with Teamsters for a Democratic Union, ran against the Teamsters Power Slate, endorsed by Hoffa.

International Brotherhood Of Teamsters

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, commonly shortened to Teamsters, is one of the nation’s largest private-sector labor unions.

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters was organized in 1903 at a convention of unions representing drivers of horses, whose profession gave the new union its name.

Presser had served as an informer on corrupt Teamsters activities for the Internal Revenue Service from as early as 1972, an arrangement allegedly created to help get federal charges against Presser’s father William, himself an Ohio Teamsters official and member of the Teamsters International Executive Board, dropped.

Trade unionists hoped that Carey’s election would invigorate the Teamsters with a progressive vision, and they felt vindication after he brought the Teamsters back into the Democratic fold to support the election of President Bill Clinton in 1992.

Fred Zuckerman, the president of Teamsters Local 89 in Louisville and backed by the dissident caucus Teamsters for a Democratic Union, challenged Hoffa as insufficiently militant in contract negotiations.

While major Cosa Nostra mafia influence on the International Brotherhood of Teamsters has been substantially reduced from the heyday of Jimmy Hoffa Sr., the union continues to attract controversy.

Prior to his election, Hoffa was an attorney for the Teamsters Union and an official in Teamsters Joint Council 43.

Collection: International Brotherhood Of Teamsters, Chauffeurs, Warehousemen And Helpers Of America Records: Digital Edition Produced From Microfilm

The digital edition of the records of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Chauffeurs, Warehousemen, and Helpers of America consist of the correspondence files of the I.B.T. executive office covering the years 1904-1952, with the major portion of the material originating in the 1940’s.

Correspondence is with general executive board members, general organizers, local unions, joint councils, conferences, and trade divisions; the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations; other international unions; government agencies; and the general public.

The material details the union’s initial struggles for existence and unity, its jurisdictional disputes, its growth in membership and influence, changes in organizing and bargaining techniques and in the trucking and transportation industries, and the increasing strength and political involvement of the labor movement in general.

On that date, a convention met to ratify the amalgamation of the Team Drivers International Union, the Teamsters’ National Union of America, and other rival groups.

Their membership gradually increased and by 1940 had reached 500,000, making the I.B.T. the largest union in the AFL, By 1952, the Teamsters claimed 1,250,000 members.

Local unions remained the basic unit of organization but other bodies began to be chartered too.

With all these structural changes, the governing offices of the union remained generally the same, Daniel J, Tobin served as General President for 45 years, 1907-1952.

INTERNATIONAL BROTHERHOOD OF TEAMSTERS, Petitioner, V. UNITED STATES Et Al. T.I.M.E.-D.C., INC., Petitioner, V. UNITED STATES Et Al.

Although agreeing with the District Court’s basic conclusions, the Court of Appeals rejected the affected-class trisection, holding that the minority members could bid for future line-driver jobs on the basis of their company seniority and that once a class member became a line driver he could use his full company seniority even if it antedated Title VII’s effective date, limited only by a “Qualification date” formula, under which seniority could not be awarded for periods prior to the date when a line-driver job was vacant, and the class member met the line-driver qualifications.

The linchpin of the theory embraced by the District Court and the Court of Appeals was that a discriminatee who must forfeit his competitive seniority in order finally to obtain a line-driver job will never be able to “Catch up” to the seniority level of his contemporary who was not subject to discrimination.

Although a seniority system inevitably tends to perpetuate the effects of pre-Act discrimination in such cases, the congressional judgment was that Title VII should not outlaw the use of existing seniority lists and thereby destroy or water down the vested seniority rights of employees simply because their employer had engaged in discrimination prior to the passage of the Act.

The Court’s decision to uphold seniority systems that perpetuate post-Act discrimination that is, seniority systems that treat Negroes and Spanish-surnamed Americans who become line drivers as new employees even though, after the effective date of Title VII, these persons were discriminatorily assigned to city-driver jobs where they accumulated seniority is explained in a single footnote.

The legislative history of 703(h) admittedly affords somewhat stronger support for the Court’s conclusion with respect to seniority systems that perpetuate pre-Act discrimination that is, seniority systems that treat Negroes and Spanish-Surnamed Americans who become line drivers as new employees even though these persons were discriminatorily assigned to city-driver jobs where they accumulated seniority before the effective date of Title VII. In enacting 703(h), Congress intended to extend at least some protection to seniority expectations that had developed prior to the effective date of the Act.

The United States, as the plaintiff suing on behalf of the incumbent minority group employees here, does not seek to overturn petitioners’ seniority system.

It seeks only to have the “time actually worked in jobs as the equal of time,” Local 189, United Papermakers & Paperworkers v. United States, 416 F.2d, at 995, within the existing seniority system.

Since the publication of the History of Trade Unionism by Sidney and Beatrice Webb, the predominant historical view is that a trade union “Is a continuous association on wage earners for the purpose of maintaining or improving the conditions of their employment.” Karl Marx described trade unions thus: “The value of labour -power constitutes the conscious and explicit foundation of the trade unions, whose importance for the … working class can scarcely be overestimated. The trade unions aim at nothing less than to prevent the reduction of wages below the level that is traditionally maintained in the various branches of industry. That is to say, they wish to prevent the price of labour -power from falling below its value”.

Prominent domestic unions in Canada include ACTRA, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers, the Canadian Union of Public Employees, the Public Service Alliance of Canada, the National Union of Public and General Employees, and Unifor.

According to the International Trade Union Confederation there were 2832 murders of trade unionists between 1 January 1986 and 30 April 2010, meaning that “On average, men and women trade unionists in Colombia have been killed at the rate of one every three days over the last 23 years.”

One of the largest trade unions in Sweden is the Swedish Confederation of Trade Unions,, incorporating unions such as the Swedish Metal Workers’ Union, the Swedish Electricians’ Union and the Swedish Municipality Workers’ Union.

In Britain, the perceived left-leaning nature of trade unions has resulted in the formation of a reactionary right-wing trade union called Solidarity which is supported by the far-right BNP. In Denmark, there are some newer apolitical “Discount” unions who offer a very basic level of services, as opposed to the dominating Danish pattern of extensive services and organizing.

The largest trade union federation in the world is the Brussels-based International Trade Union Confederation, created in 2006, which has approximately 309 affiliated organizations in 156 countries and territories, with a combined membership of 166 million.

What Is Trade Union? Definition Of Trade Union, Trade Union Meaning

Definition: Labour unions or trade unions are organizations formed by workers from related fields that work for the common interest of its members.

Regulation of relations, settlement of grievances, raising new demands on behalf of workers, collective bargaining and negotiations are the other key principle functions that these trade unions perform.

The Indian Trade Union Act, 1926, is the principle act which controls and regulates the mechanism of trade unions.

In India, political lines and ideologies influence trade union movements.

Description: With the consumption behavior being related, the change in the price of a related good leads to a change in the demand of another good.

Description: Apart from Cash Reserve Ratio, banks have to maintain a stipulated proportion of their net demand and time liabilities in the form of liquid assets like cash, gold and unencumbered securities.

Description: If the prices of goods and services do not include the cost of negative externalities or the cost of harmful effects they have on the environment, people might misuse them and use them in large quantities without thinking about their ill effects on the env.

Definition, History, & Facts

While union organizers in both countries faced similar obstacles, their approaches evolved quite differently: the British movement favoured political activism, which led to the formation of the Labour Party in 1906, while American unions pursued collective bargaining as a means of winning economic gains for their workers.

In 1866 the formation of the National Labor Union represented an early attempt to create a federation of American unions.

Although the NLU disappeared in the 1870s, several of its member trade unions continued, representing such diverse occupations as shoemakers, spinners, coal miners, and railway workers.

The founding of the American Federation of Labor by several unions of skilled workers in 1886 marked the beginning of a continuous large-scale labour movement in the United States.

Its member groups comprised national trade or craft unions that organized local unions and negotiated wages, hours, and working conditions.

Modern developments During the 20th century, craft unions lost ground to industrial unions.

In the United States the labour movement was also adversely affected by the movement to implement so-called right-to-work laws, which generally prohibited the union shop, a formerly common clause of labour contracts that required workers to join, or pay service fees to, a union as a condition of employment.

What Is Trade Union? Definition, Functions, Objectives, Purpose

It is an association of workers engaged in securing economic benefits for its member’s Trade union formed in accordance with the law of their country shall have the privileges given by the law of trade union.

In India trade unions can be formed only the persons engaged in trade or business can form trade unions.

Trade Union is a monopolistic combination of wage earners who stand to the employers in a relation of dependence for the sale of their labour and even for the production, and that the general purpose of the association in view of that dependence is to strengthen their power to bargain with the employers.

Trade unions are generally understood as voluntary organizations of workers formed for the purpose of defending and advancing the latter’s collective interest either mutually or in relation to outside parties’ such as employers, Government and other trade unions.

Accordingly ‘trade union’ means any combination, whether temporary or permanent, formed primarily for purpose of regulating the relations between workmen and employers or between workmen and workmen or between employers and employers or for imposing restrictive conditions on the conduct of any trade or business and include any federation of two or more trade unions.

This definition is similar to that of the definition of the trade union as defined under the Trade Unions Act, 1871 in England.

Association of employees: A trade union is essentially an association of employees belonging to a particular class of employment, profession, trade or industry.

Trade Union: Introduction, Meaning, Definition, Types, Objectives, Importance

According to British Trade Union Act’ 1953 – Trade Union is an association of workers formed with the main objective of the regulation of relation between workmen and masters for imposing of restrictive conditions on the conduct of any trade or business and also provision of benefits to members.

Indian Trade Union Act, 1926- “Trade union as any combination whether temporary or permanent formed primarily for the purpose of regulating the relations between workmen and employer or, between workmen and workmen or, between employer and employer Or for imposing restrictive conditions on the conduct of any trade or business and include any federation of two or more trade unions.”

The weaknesses of industrial unions include the following – difficulties in satisfying all groups of members; more attention to the interests of the group providing bulk of membership; encouragement to the formation of small-sized unions on account of ease in establishing a union with only a few members, which results in multiplicity of unions and union rivalries even in a small-sized establishment and creating difficulties in recognition of representative union.

e. Copy of rules of the trade union complying with the items specified u/s 6 of Trade Union Act, 1926.Trade Union – Recognition.

In short, the political involvement of trade union leaders and union rivalries has weakened the trade union movement.

According to Kith the famous trade union leader of USA – “Trade unions should be kept a wary from politics and inception of trade union should be done on the basis of specific industries. Constructive co-operation of all classes can direct properly the trade union movement.” Though labour will be at liberty to participate in the politics but politicians should not use them to serve their purposes.

Formation of a Labour Party – Trade unions should form a labour party and trade union in the country should be affiliated to it will provide adequate strength to the trade unions both in the industry and parliament.

What Is A Trade Union?

Definition: A trade union is an organization of people working for certain industry with aiming to achieve a set of goals when negotiating compensation, employee benefits, and improved working conditions with employers.

Trade unions are also known as labor unions and are assumed to preserve workers rights through collective action.

Since employers are presumed to have more power and bargaining capabilities than workers, trade unions organize workers to represent them.

Most unions are industry-specific but it can be a trade union related to a particular region or even a company, particularly if it is a large one.

Trade union’s members pay union dues to support the union administration and representatives who act on the workers’s behalf.

Union achievements are expressed in written documents that last a given period of time, usually from one to three years, and are signed by both parties.

They expressed him that all workers entered the Plastic Industry Union which meant that a collective agreement must be signed.

Trade Union: Meaning, Role And Advantages

A trade union is an organiation of workers, acting collectively, seeking to promote and protect its mutual interests through collective bargaining.

A trade union is an association of workers formed for the purpose of protecting the rights of the workers and improving their economic conditions.

Thus a trade union is a “Voluntary organisation of workers formed to promote and protect their interests by collective action.”

In this sense, a trade union can be defined as the collective body of workers bargaining for.

Discussion among trade union circles nowadays relate to such issues as the productivity, total quality management, technology, competition, MNCs, exports and the like.

Union leaders too are conscious about the need for single union plans.

One of the effects of trade union movement in our country has been the phenomenon of outsider leadership.

A completed measurement includes the following elements: the object of measurement, a property or state of which is characterized by the measured quantity; a unit of measurement; technical measurement devices, graduated in the selected units; a method of measurement; an observer or recording device to register the result of the measurement; and the final result of the measurement.

Direct measurement, in which the result is obtained directly from measurement of the quantity itself, is the simplest and historically the first known type of measurement.

Measurement should be distinguished from other means of quantitative characterization of quantities that are used when there is no unambiguous correspondence between a quantity and its quantitative expression in specified units.

Absolute measurements include indirect measurements, which are based on the measurement of one or more basic quantities and on the use of the values of fundamental physical constants in terms of which the physical quantity being measured can be expressed.

Because of errors, the results of a measurement always differ somewhat from the true value of the quantity being measured; therefore, the results of measurement are usually accompanied by an indication of the estimated error.

In mathematical theory, measurement moves away from the limited accuracy of physical measurements.

IP subnets are inventory resources whose life cycles begin when you activate them.

When you deactivate an IP subnet, all IP addresses within the IP subnet are also deactivated.

IP subnets also have an assignment status that indicates progress in their assignment life cycle.

What Is IPAM?

IPAM is the administration of DNS and DHCP, which are the network services that assign and resolve IP addresses to machines in a TCP/IP network.

Simply put, IPAM is a means of planning, tracking, and managing the Internet Protocol address space used in a network.

Most commonly, tools such as DNS and DHCP are used in tandem to perform this task, though true IPAM will glue these services together so that each is aware of changes in the other.

IP Address Management Strategy

One typical application is to define your local IP address as a fixed IP address and the remote to be assigned by the remote system.

For a single receiver profile, you can define a unique IP address or use an existing local IP address on your system to identify the end of the PPP connection.

Option Description Fixed IP address You define the single IP address that is to be given to remote users when they dial in.

This option is automatically selected if the remote IP address assignment method is defined as Based on remote system’s user ID. This option is also allowed for IP address assignment methods of Fixed IP address and Address Pool.

If the user is not defined, the IP address will default to the defined Fixed IP address or the next Address Pool IP address.

If they do not negotiate to use their own IP address, the remote IP address will be determined by the defined remote IP address assignment method.

IP address routing The dial-up client and the system must have IP address routing properly configured if the client needs access to any IP addresses on the LAN to which the system belongs.

Post Idea #22: Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol

Related Articles – Summarized

Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol

Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol is a client/server protocol that automatically provides an Internet Protocol host with its IP address and other related configuration information such as the subnet mask and default gateway.

RFCs 2131 and 2132 define DHCP as an Internet Engineering Task Force standard based on Bootstrap Protocol, a protocol with which DHCP shares many implementation details.

DHCP allows hosts to obtain required TCP/IP configuration information from a DHCP server.

Windows Server 2016 includes DHCP Server, which is an optional networking server role that you can deploy on your network to lease IP addresses and other information to DHCP clients.

All Windows-based client operating systems include the DHCP client as part of TCP/IP, and DHCP client is enabled by default.

The network administrator establishes DHCP servers that maintain TCP/IP configuration information and provide address configuration to DHCP-enabled clients in the form of a lease offer.

Benefits of DHCP. DHCP provides the following benefits.

The forwarding of initial DHCP messages by using a DHCP relay agent, which eliminates the need for a DHCP server on every subnet.

DHCP relay agent DHCP relay agents pass DHCP messages between servers and clients where the DHCP server does not reside on the same IP subnet as its clients.

The client will choose a DHCP server offer and then broadcast a DHCP REQUEST back to the DHCP server(s) to say “Thanks, I have selected an offer from this DHCP server.” All servers will see which offer the client selected.

If the DHCP Leasequery feature is enabled, when a DHCP relay agent needs to know the location of an IP endpoint and sends a DHCPLEASEQUERY message, the DHCP server will reply with either a DHCPLEASEACTIVE, DHCPLEASEUNASSIGNED, or DHCPLEASEUNKNOWN message.

The DHCP relay agent unicasts the DHCP request that includes the Option 82 field to the DHCP server.

Checking Option 82 information in DHCP server responses To configure the switch to check for Option 82 information in DHCP packets from servers, configure DHCP-relay agent-option checking with the Interface Configuration command: awplus(config)#interface awplus(config-if)#ip dhcp-relay agent-option checking This command enables the DHCP relay agent to check Option 82 information in response packets returned from DHCP servers.

DHCP Relay client side IP source address In most cases, there are filters placed between the DHCP relay and DHCP server which only allow DHCP packets from the client subnet to the server and back.

Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol

The technology eliminates the need for individually configuring network devices manually, and consists of two network components, a centrally installed network DHCP server and client instances of the protocol stack on each computer or device.

The DHCP server manages a pool of IP addresses and information about client configuration parameters such as default gateway, domain name, the name servers, and time servers.

Dynamic allocation A network administrator reserves a range of IP addresses for DHCP, and each DHCP client on the LAN is configured to request an IP address from the DHCP server during network initialization.

The DHCP server determines the configuration based on the client’s hardware address as specified in the CHADDR field.

The protocol expects the DHCP client to configure its network interface with the negotiated parameters.

As client devices usually do not know when users may unplug them from the network, the protocol does not mandate the sending of DHCP Release.

A DHCP server can provide optional configuration parameters to the client.

As shown in the figure, source MAC address is 08002B2EAF2A, destination MAC address(server) is FFFFFFFFFFFF, source IP address is 0.0.0.0(because PC has no IP address till now) and destination IP address is 255.255.255.255.

As the discover message is broadcast to find out the DHCP server or servers in the network therefore broadcast IP address and MAC address is used.

Now, for the offer message, source IP address is 172.16.32.12, destination IP address is 255.255.255.255 ,source MAC address is 00AA00123456, destination MAC address is FFFFFFFFFFFF. Here, the offer message is broadcast by the DHCP server therefore destination IP address is broadcast IP address and destination MAC address is FFFFFFFFFFFF and the source IP address is server IP address and MAC address is server MAC address.

Now, the request message is broadcast by the client PC therefore source IP address is 0.0.0.0(as the client has no IP right now) and destination IP address is 255.255.255.255 and source MAC address is 08002B2EAF2A and destination MAC address is FFFFFFFFFFFF. Note – This message is broadcast after the ARP request broadcast by the PC to find out whether any other host is not using that offered IP. If there is no reply, then the client host broadcast the DHCP request message for the server showing the acceptance of IP address and Other TCP/IP Configuration.

The destination MAC address is FFFFFFFFFFFF and the destination IP address is 255.255.255.255 and the source IP address is 172.16.32.12 and the source MAC address is 00AA00123456.

DHCP negative acknowledgement message – Whenever a DHCP server receives a request for IP address that is invalid according to the scopes that is configured with, it send DHCP Nak message to client.

DHCP inform – If a client address has obtained IP address manually then the client uses a DHCP inform to obtain other local configuration parameters, such as domain name.

What Is DHCP?

DHCP runs at the application layer of the Transmission Control Protocol/IP stack to dynamically assign IP addresses to DHCP clients and to allocate TCP/IP configuration information to DHCP clients.

Clients configured with DHCP broadcast a request to the DHCP server and request network configuration information for the local network to which they’re attached.

DHCP is limited to a specific local area network, which means a single DHCP server per LAN is adequate or two servers for use in case of a failover.

If network administrators want a DHCP server to provide addressing to multiple subnets on a given network, they must configure DHCP relay services located on interconnecting routers that DHCP requests have to cross.

The DHCP server – typically either a server or router – is a networked device that runs on the DHCP service.

WINS is part of Microsoft networking topology but is not largely used today – DNS has replaced WINS. Pros and cons of DHCP. DHCP makes it easier for network administrators to add or move devices within a network, whether it be a LAN or WAN. But DHCP is not inherently secure, and if malicious actors access the DHCP server, they can wreak havoc.

DHCP is more advanced, and DHCP servers can handle BOOTP client requests if any BOOTP clients exist on a network segment.

What Is DHCP Meaning

What Is DHCP. DHCP is one of the protocols in Internet Protocol Suite, which is a network management protocol utilized on Internet Protocol networks.

What does DHCP stand for? DHCP stands for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol.

DHCP is a protocol used for assigning dynamic IP addresses to devices on a network.

In addition to that, DHCP can stretch IP addresses by limiting how long a device can maintain an individual IP address.

DHCP server: It is a network device that runs the DHCP service, containing IP addresses and related configuration information.

DHCP client: It is the endpoint that receives configuration information from a DHCP server.

The operations can be automated and centralized via DHCP. Efficient change management: It is easy to change addresses, scopes or endpoints by using DHCP. As the DHCP server is configured with the new information, the message will be sent to the new endpoints automatically.

What Is DHCP?

In the early days of networking, users manually assigned themselves an IP address, but that’s a cumbersome task, especially for places with many devices, such as a corporate office.

The server responds with all the rules and settings for the network and an IP address for use.

Some routers only list a starting address and then include an option for a maximum number of users.

When a DHCP server assigns an IP Address, it does so under a lease system.

The machine retains this IP address for a set number of days, after which it can try to renew the IP address.

If no renewal signal is sent, then the DHCP server reclaims the IP address to assign to another device.

Depending on the device and its Operating System, it may be possible to set a static IP at the device end instead of through the router or DHCP server.

In 1989, Howard Dresner proposed business intelligence as an umbrella term to describe “Concepts and methods to improve business decision making by using fact-based support systems.” It was not until the late 1990s that this usage was widespread. Critics[who?] see BI merely as an evolution of business reporting together with the advent of increasingly powerful and easy-to-use data analysis tools.

According to Forrester Research, business intelligence is “a set of methodologies, processes, architectures, and technologies that transform raw data into meaningful and useful information used to enable more effective strategic, tactical, and operational insights and decision-making.” Under this definition, business intelligence encompasses information management.

Though the term business intelligence is sometimes a synonym for competitive intelligence, BI uses technologies, processes, and applications to analyze mostly internal, structured data and business processes while competitive intelligence gathers, analyzes, and disseminates information with a topical focus on company competitors.

Unstructured data can also simply be the knowledge that business users have about future business trends.

Business reporting may involve dashboards, data visualization, executive information system, and/or OLAP. BI can facilitate collaboration both inside and outside the business by enabling data sharing and electronic data interchange.

Four Emerging Business Intelligence Trends For 2022

There will be major shifts from how enterprise wants to receive business intelligence in 2022 and beyond, and here are four to keep in mind.

These tools can still offer value, but we all know that different users have different needs.

If a business is going to leverage data to its full potential, it will need BI tools that are flexible enough to offer individualized experiences for different users.

You will need to look for platforms that not only have the ability to curate insights based on the needs of the user but ones that are designed to be used by people with different levels of technical skill.

These BI tools can even generate reports without the need for an analytics professional.

Business leaders need to show users how beneficial the tools can be and how easy they are to use.

BI users no longer need to be stuck to a desk when they need insights.

Epicor Buys Business Intelligence Platform Grow –

Epicor has bought Grow Inc, the no-code full-stack business intelligence platform based in Lehi, Utah.

Epicor CEO Steve Murphy commented: “In today’s world, businesses need a streamlined way to cut through the clutter, connect data sources, and glean intelligence from across their enterprise, no matter where the information resides. The Grow acquisition gives Epicor users a simple, easy-to-use platform to build the right models to tap into that intelligence, helping them make great decisions in real-time to accelerate growth.”

According to Aaron Masterson, Global Head of Corporate Communications at Epicor Software, the “Grow leadership will continue to drive product innovation and customer support that empowers users to maximize business intelligence.”

With most of Grow’s customers not using Epicor, what is Epicor’s message for them? Masterson answered: “Grow will continue to enhance and support the BI platform for the current non-Epicor customer base. With the Epicor acquisition, Grow customers will benefit from significant scale, development, and investment in the BI platform, giving them even more capabilities to put their data to work.”

Epicor already used a third-party analytics platform, Phocas, to power Epicor Data Analytics.

It should not take long before an announcement is made that sees Epicor customers able to take advantage of the Grow platform.

While Epicor is likely to continue with EDA for some time, it does seem likely that its investments will be in its own BI platform, Grow.

Business Intelligence: What It Is & Its Importance

Business intelligence combines business analytics, data mining, data visualization, data tools and infrastructure, and best practices to help organizations to make more data-driven decisions.

In practice, you know you’ve got modern business intelligence when you have a comprehensive view of your organization’s data and use that data to drive change, eliminate inefficiencies, and quickly adapt to market or supply changes.

Much more than a specific “Thing,” business intelligence is rather an umbrella term that covers the processes and methods of collecting, storing, and analyzing data from business operations or activities to optimize performance.

Business intelligence can help companies make better decisions by showing present and historical data within their business context.

Business intelligence includes data analytics and business analytics, but uses them only as parts of the whole process.

According to Gartner’s IT glossary, “Business analytics includes data mining, predictive analytics, applied analytics, and statistics.” In short, organizations conduct business analytics as part of their larger business intelligence strategy.

Today, more organizations are moving to a modern business intelligence model, characterized by a self-service approach to data.

Intelligence

Intelligence in computers or other machines is called artificial intelligence.

There have been various attempts to quantify intelligence via testing, such as the Intelligence Quotient test.

Hereditary intelligence is the theory that intelligence is fixed upon birth and not able to grow.

Environmental intelligence is the theory that intelligence is developed throughout life depending on the environment around the person.

Emotional intelligence is important to our mental health and has ties into social intelligence.

Scholars studying artificial intelligence have proposed definitions of intelligence that include the intelligence demonstrated by machines.

Singularitarian Eliezer Yudkowsky provides a loose qualitative definition of intelligence as “That sort of smartish stuff coming out of brains, which can play chess, and price bonds, and persuade people to buy bonds, and invent guns, and figure out gravity by looking at wandering lights in the sky; and which, if a machine intelligence had it in large quantities, might let it invent molecular nanotechnology; and so on”.

What Is Intelligence?

Intelligence is information gathered within or outside the U.S. that involves threats to our nation, its people, property, or interests; development, proliferation, or use of weapons of mass destruction; and any other matter bearing on the U.S. national or homeland security.

The U.S. Intelligence Community is a federation of executive branch agencies and organizations that work separately and together to conduct intelligence activities necessary for the conduct of foreign relations and the protection of the national security of the United States.

The intelligence cycle is a process of collecting information and developing it into intelligence for use by IC customers.

SIGINT-Signals intelligence is derived from signal intercepts comprising – however transmitted – either individually or in combination: all communications intelligence, electronic intelligence and foreign instrumentation signals intelligence.

The NIS should be read along with the National Intelligence Priorities Framework and Unifying Intelligence Strategies to inform and guide mission, as well as planning, programming, and budgeting activities.

Intelligence includes foreign intelligence and counterintelligence.

Psychology Today

Each is thought to be a measurable indicator of general intelligence or “g,” a construct that includes problem-solving ability, spatial manipulation, and language acquisition that is relatively stable across a person’s lifetime.

IQ-or intelligence quotient-is the standard most widely used to assess general intelligence.

IQ tests seek to measures a variety of intellectual skills that include verbal, non-verbal and spatial.

Any person from any walk of life can be highly intelligent, and scoring high on one sub-test tends to correlate with high scores in other tests, though this is not always the case.

IQ tests compare a person’s performance with that of other people who are the same age-what’s known as a normative sample.

Research has shown that IQ is generally strongly correlated with positive life outcomes, including health and longevity, job performance, and adult income.

It is also protective in ways that are not fully understood: People with high IQs seem to be at an advantage in coping with traumatic.

Identity Management

Identity management – or identity and access management – is the organizational and technical processes for first registering and authorizing access rights in the configuration phase, and then in the operation phase for identifying, authenticating and controlling individuals or groups of people to have access to applications, systems or networks based on previously authorized access rights.

Identity management can thus be defined as a set of operations on a given identity model, or more generally, as a set of capabilities with reference to it.

Increasingly, identity management has been partitioned from application functions so that a single identity can serve many or even all of an organization’s activities.

In addition to creation, deletion, modification of user identity data either assisted or self-service, identity management controls ancillary entity data for use by applications, such as contact information or location.

Decentralized identity management is identity management based on decentralized identifiers.

Identity management, otherwise known as identity and access management is an identity security framework that works to authenticate and authorize user access to resources such as applications, data, systems, and cloud platforms.

“Identity management” and “Access and identity management” are terms that are used interchangeably under the title of identity management while identity management itself falls under the umbrella of IT security and information privacy and privacy risk as well as usability and e-inclusion studies.

What Is Identity Management? Definition From SearchSecurity

Identity management includes authenticating users and determining whether they’re allowed access to particular systems.

ID management works hand-in-hand with identity and access management systems.

Identity management is focused on authentication, while access management is aimed at authorization.

Identity governance, the policies and processes that guide how roles and user access should be administered across a business environment, is an important aspect of identity management.

One of the top challenges in implementing identity management is password management.

In addition to managing employees, the use of identity management along with access management enables a business to manage customer, partner, supplier and device access to its systems while ensuring security.

Identity management can also be an important tool for enhancing employees’ user experience, especially for reducing the impact of identity chaos – the state of having multiple sets of user IDs and passwords for disparate systems.

Identity Management Institute

Welcome to Identity Management Institute where we can collectively redefine the term “Identity management”, collaborate with global professionals, increase risk awareness, gain knowledge and credibility, advance our careers, and learn to manage risks.

IMI is a leading international organization which was founded in 2007 to provide thought leadership, training, and professional certification to its global members who are interested in identity and access management topics such as governance, access controls, identity theft, fraud prevention, compliance, data protection, and technology.

The Best Identity Management Solutions For 2022

LDAP is a standards-based method of communicating with a directory while ADFS is a role in Windows Server that allows web apps to glean specific information from AD. Not all IDaaS providers support these capabilities, and, in most cases, they’ll require a lot of configuration, including firewall rules, but they’re often your best option.

Many of the IDaaS solutions we’ve reviewed offer the ability to offer business partners SSO access to apps through a portal functionally identical to the one available to normal corporate users.

Customer management is another area in which IDaaS solutions can offer value.

Many of the solutions we’ve reviewed offer a consumer IDaaS aspect, typically licensed separately from the core IDaaS product due to the potential for a high volume of authentications.

In many cases, the IDaaS app can also provide synchronization or translation capabilities with automation, which lets you manage an identity once and have those changes flow to other systems where appropriate.

There are several security concerns for IT shops looking into using SaaS apps and IDaaS solutions.

In general, IDaaS solutions don’t sync and store password hashes from your users; however, several IDaaS providers do offer this as an option to maintain the same passwords between multiple accounts.

This unfolded with Microsoft acquiring Danger Inc. in 2008, entering the personal computer production market for the first time in June 2012 with the launch of the Microsoft Surface line of tablet computers, and later forming Microsoft Mobile through the acquisition of Nokia’s devices and services division.

The company expanded into new markets with the release of the Microsoft Mouse in 1983, as well as with a publishing division named Microsoft Press.

In 1990, Microsoft introduced the Microsoft Office suite which bundled separate applications such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.

Microsoft implemented a new strategy for the software industry, providing a consistent user experience across all smartphones using the Windows Phone OS. It launched an alliance with Nokia in 2011 and Microsoft worked closely with the company to co-develop Windows Phone, but remained partners with long-time Windows Mobile OEM HTC. Microsoft is a founding member of the Open Networking Foundation started on March 23, 2011.

On September 3, 2013, Microsoft agreed to buy Nokia’s mobile unit for $7 billion, following Amy Hood taking the role of CFO. On February 4, 2014, Steve Ballmer stepped down as CEO of Microsoft and was succeeded by Satya Nadella, who previously led Microsoft’s Cloud and Enterprise division.

History, Products, & Facts

In 1980 International Business Machines Corporation asked Microsoft to produce the essential software, or operating system, for its first personal computer, the IBM PC. Microsoft purchased an operating system from another company, modified it, and renamed it MS-DOS. MS-DOS was released with the IBM PC in 1981.

In 1995 the company released Windows 95, which for the first time fully integrated MS-DOS with Windows and effectively matched in ease of use Apple Computer’s Mac OS. Microsoft also became the leader in productivity software such as word-processing and spreadsheet programs, outdistancing longtime rivals Lotus and WordPerfect in the process.

It also entered the information services and entertainment industries with a wide range of products and services, most notably the Microsoft Network and MSNBC. As a result, by the mid-1990s Microsoft, which became a publicly owned corporation in 1986, had become one of the most powerful and profitable companies in American history.

The following year the Justice Department successfully challenged Microsoft’s proposed purchase of Intuit Inc., then the leading maker of financial software for PCs. Chasing the Internet Partly because of its stunning success in PC software, Microsoft was slow to realize the commercial possibilities of network systems and the Internet.

In response, Netscape accused Microsoft of violating its 1995 consent decree and sued; those efforts helped to persuade the Justice Department to reopen a broad investigation of Microsoft.

The company’s legal woes continued in 2004: the European Union levied the largest fine in the organization’s history to that point, €497.2 million, in retaliation for what were described as Microsoft’s near-monopoly practices.

In February 2008 the EU imposed an even higher fine, €899 million, on the company for having defied the EU’s 2004 antitrust decision against Microsoft for illegally bundling multimedia software with its Windows operating system to the exclusion of competitors.

BOFS and electric arc furnace slag are produced in basic oxygen furnace and electric arc furnace respectively, which are the most widely used processes for the steel manufacturing.

The electric arc furnace oxidizing slag is firstly produced when the iron scrap is melted and refined into steel, and then the electric arc furnace reducing slag is produced in the ladle refining furnace.

AODS, argon oxygen decarburization slag; BFS, blast furnace slag; EAFOS, electric arc furnace oxidizing slag; EAFRS, electric arc furnace reducing slag; LFS, ladle furnace slag; PS, phosphorus slag.

When phosphate rock, phosphorus concentrate, and fluxes are smelted in an electric arc furnace under temperatures of 1400-1500 °C, molten slag is formed and tapped out from the furnace and goes through an air-cooling or water quenching process.

3.2 Physico-chemical characteristicsUsing steel scrap instead of melted iron as feed material, the EAF process is actually a steel scrap recycling process and the chemical composition of EAF slag can vary over a wider range than BOF slag.

The IISI report ” The Electic Furnace – 1990″ indicates that most new installations allow 900 – 1000 kVA per ton of furnace capacity.

The bottom furnace electrode is usually rigid, as no movement is required during operation of the furnace.

Electric Arc Furnace

An electric arc furnace is a furnace that heats material by means of an electric arc.

Industrial electric arc furnace temperatures can reach 1,800 °C, while laboratory units can exceed 3,000 °C. In electric arc furnaces, the charged material is directly exposed to an electric arc, and the current from the furnace terminals passes through the charged material.

The Stassano electric furnace is an arc type furnace that usually rotates to mix the bath.

An electric arc furnace used for steelmaking consists of a refractory-lined vessel, usually water-cooled in larger sizes, covered with a retractable roof, and through which one or more graphite electrodes enter the furnace.

Electric arc furnace steelmaking results in lower carbon dioxide emissions of around 0.6 ton CO2 per ton of steel produced, which is significantly lower than the conventional production route via blast furnaces and the basic oxygen furnace.

Although the modern electric arc furnace is a highly efficient recycler of steel scrap, operation of an arc furnace shop can have adverse environmental effects.

Because of the very dynamic quality of the arc furnace load, power systems may require technical measures to maintain the quality of power for other customers; flicker and harmonic distortion are common power system side-effects of arc furnace operation.

For this project, the only thing we actually bought was a pair of vice grips and 14ft of copper wire. However, if you don’t have any of this we have included the approximate price of it all. $7 of 8 gauge stranded copper wire$8 for a two-pack of 6V lantern batteries.$10 for a pair of small vice grips.$2 for a pair of hose clamps for the vice grips.$1 for about a foot of copper pipe. $10 a roll of electrical tape.$14 for a 9″x4.5″x2.5” refractory aluminum silicate brick.

After cleaning out the transformer is done with, and creating an “I” block, place this block into a bench vice and wind your 8 gauge wire around your contraption how many wires high as you can and then repeat for however many layers outward.

Fold the paper over the wiring and tape the sides shut Remove the top of the “I” and pull out your wiring in one piece.

Cut 4 pieces of 1″ copper piping and place the transformer’s wires into them and crimp the pieces together to create a makeshift lug by sticking the unsqueezed side of the copper pipe and squeeze them shut.

Cut 2x 2ft pieces of wire from the leftover 8 gauge copper wire, and strip 2″ off them as well.

Our secondary coil could only fit 5 wires high and 3 wires out, while another transformer may fit 6 wires high.

SAN DIEGO, March 3, 2022 /PRNewswire/ – Inhibrx, Inc., a biotechnology company with four clinical programs in development and a strong emerging pipeline, today announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, or FDA, has granted orphan-drug designation for INBRX-101 for the treatment of alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, or AATD.”We believe this designation from the FDA acknowledges the significant unmet need for novel therapeutic options in a patient community where the standard of care has not seen an improvement in many decades,” said Inhibrx Chief Executive Officer, Mark Lappe.

Dose related increases in maximal and total INBRX-101 exposure occurred across the entirety of the tested single ascending dose range of 10 to 120 mg/kg.

Data from the first multiple ascending dose cohort of INBRX-101 at 40 mg/kg IV every three weeks showed the expected accumulation of functional AAT levels with observed trough levels exceeding the goal of the current standard augmentation therapy with plasma-derived AAT. ADVERTISEMENT.Interim safety data from 24 patients with AATD showed no drug-related severe or serious adverse events at doses up to and including 120 mg/kg single dose and 80 mg/kg multiple dose.

For rural referral centers, sole community hospitals, critical access hospitals, and free-standing cancer hospitals participating in the 340B Program, the term “Covered outpatient drug” doesn’t include a drug designated by the Secretary under section 526 of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act for a rare disease or condition.

Manufacturers aren’t required to provide these covered entities’ orphan drugs under the 340B Program.

The Orphan Drug Designation List was updated and developed using the methodology referenced in About the Orphan Drug List.

It is based upon specific fields captured from the list of orphan drug designations provided by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Office of Orphan Products Development.

The list posted should be the source used by 340B stakeholders to ensure compliance with the orphan drug exclusion.

Covered entities may need to conduct additional analyses of the drugs provided on this list to determine the appropriate orphan drugs to exclude from the 340B Program.

HRSA will continue to improve the list that is posted on a quarterly basis to ensure covered entities have the information they need to comply with the orphan drug exclusion.

Orphan Drug

According to the US Food and Drug Administration, an orphan drug is defined as one “Intended for the treatment, prevention or diagnosis of a rare disease or condition, which is one that affects less than 200,000 persons in the US” “Or meets cost recovery provisions of the act.” In the European Union, the European Medicines Agency defines a drug as “Orphan” if it is intended for the diagnosis, prevention or treatment of a life-threatening or chronically and seriously debilitating condition affecting not more than 5 in 10,000 EU people.

EMA also qualifies a drug as orphan if – without incentives – it would be unlikely that marketing the drug in the EU would generate sufficient benefit for the affected people and for the drug manufacturer to justify the investment.

As of 2017, there was no official integration of the orphan drug programs between the FDA and EMA. As of 2014, there were 281 marketed orphan drugs and more than 400 orphan-designated drugs in clinical trials.

According to Drug Discovery Today, the years 2001 to 2011 were the “Most productive period in the history of orphan drug development, in terms of average annual orphan drug designations and orphan drug approvals”.

The 2014 Orphan Drug report stated that the percentage of orphan drug sales as part of all prescription drug sales had been increasing at a rapid rate.

“The Orphan Drug Act of January 1983, passed in the United States, with lobbying from the National Organization for Rare Disorders and many other organizations, is meant to encourage pharmaceutical companies to develop drugs for diseases that have a small market. Under the ODA drugs, vaccines, and diagnostic agents would qualify for orphan status if they were intended to treat a disease affecting fewer than 200,000 American citizens. Under the ODA orphan drug sponsors qualify for seven-year FDA-administered market Orphan Drug Exclusivity,”tax credits of up to 50% of R&D costs, R&D grants, waived FDA fees, protocol assistance : 660  and may get clinical trial tax incentives.

After the drug was approved for orphan drug designation, and AstraZeneca had received tax breaks and other advantages, AstraZeneca later applied and received FDA approval for the drug to be used to treat cholesterol in all diabetics.

What Is An Orphan Drug?

“Orphan drugs” are medicinal products intended for diagnosis, prevention or treatment of life-threatening or very serious diseases or disorders that are rare.

A disease or disorder is defined as rare in Europe when it affects less than 1 in 2,000 citizens.

These drugs are called “Orphan” because under normal market conditions the pharmaceutical industry has little interest in developing and marketing products intended for only a small number of patients.

For drug companies, the extremely high cost of bringing a medicinal product to market would not be recovered by the expected sales of the product.

As a result the potential market for new drug treatment is also small and the drug companies industry would actually incur a financial loss.

Therefore governments and rare disease patient organisations such as EURORDIS advocate for economic incentives to encourage drug companies to develop and market medicines for rare disease treatment.

Regularly scheduled well-baby visits can help identify early signs of poor growth and development, which can be signs of Prader-Willi syndrome or other disorders.

Prader-Willi syndrome is a genetic disorder, a condition caused by an error in one or more genes.

Although the exact mechanisms responsible for Prader-Willi syndrome haven’t been identified, the problem lies in the genes located in a particular region of chromosome 15.

Determining which genetic defect caused Prader-Willi syndrome can be helpful in genetic counseling.

People with Prader-Willi syndrome are at an increased risk of developing osteoporosis because they have low levels of sex hormones and may also have low levels of growth hormone – both hormones help maintain strong bones.

It is not a pleasurable live-to-eat feel that many enjoy but an uncontrollable hunger that he has to wrestle with for the rest of his life.

David has Prader-Willi syndrome or PWS, a complex neurodevelopmental and genetic condition that leaves him with no hunger off switch, which means he does not have that sense of feeling satisfied after a meal.

His stomach simply does not tell his brain that he is full.

Prader-Willi Syndrome: MedlinePlus Genetics

Prader-Willi syndrome is caused by the loss of function of genes in a particular region of chromosome 15.

Some genes are turned on only on the copy that is inherited from a person’s father.

Rarely, Prader-Willi syndrome can also be caused by a chromosomal rearrangement called a translocation, or by a mutation or other defect that abnormally turns off genes on the paternal chromosome 15.

It appears likely that the characteristic features of Prader-Willi syndrome result from the loss of function of several genes on chromosome 15.

Among these are genes that provide instructions for making molecules called small nucleolar RNAs.

In some people with Prader-Willi syndrome, the loss of a gene called OCA2 is associated with unusually fair skin and light-colored hair.

Loss of the OCA2 gene does not cause the other signs and symptoms of Prader-Willi syndrome.

Prader-Willi Syndrome

Most cases of Prader Willi syndrome are sporadic, but familial cases can present when the paternal genes carry a microdeletion in the imprinting center inherited from his mother.

At birth, growth parameters, such as weight, length, and body mass index, are 15 to 20% smaller in patients with Prader Willi Syndrome than those of their unaffected siblings, indicating that the growth is irregular during the prenatal period.

Although the pathogenesis is not completely clear, IGF-1 is deficient or subnormal in almost every patient with Prader Willi syndrome.

Hypogonadism is present in all patients with Prader Willi syndrome.

Treatment / ManagementGrowth hormone: It is recommended in patients with Prader Willi syndrome as early as at the time of diagnosis, from 3 to 6 months old.

There are some other syndromes called Prader Willi like Syndrome that share some physical features with Prader Willi syndrome but differs on a genetic basis.
