Elizabeth Holmes
Elizabeth Anne Holmes is an American former biotechnology entrepreneur who was convicted of criminal fraud.
In 2018, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission charged Theranos and Holmes with deceiving investors by “Massive fraud” through false or exaggerated claims about the accuracy of the company’s blood-testing technology; Holmes settled the charges by paying a $500,000 fine, returning 18.9 million shares to the company, relinquishing her voting control of Theranos, and accepting a ten-year ban from serving as an officer or director of a public company.
Elizabeth Holmes was born February 3, 1984, in Washington, D.C. Her father, Christian Rasmus Holmes IV, was a vice president at Enron, an energy company that later went bankrupt after an accounting fraud scandal.
When Holmes pitched the idea to reap “Vast amounts of data from a few droplets of blood derived from the tip of a finger” to her medicine professor Phyllis Gardner at Stanford, Gardner responded, “I don’t think your idea is going to work”, explaining it was impossible to do what Holmes was claiming could be done.
Media attention increased in 2014, when Holmes appeared on the covers of Fortune, Forbes, T: The New York Times Style Magazine, and Inc. Forbes recognized Holmes as the world’s youngest self-made female billionaire and ranked her #110 on the Forbes 400 in 2014.
Balwani divorced his wife in 2002 and became romantically involved with Holmes in 2003, about the same time Holmes dropped out of university.
Season 7, episode 12 of the US comedy-drama Younger features a musical number about famous scammers, in which Elizabeth Stanley portrays Holmes.
A jury has convicted Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes on four counts of fraud on their seventh day of deliberations.
Holmes was found guilty on one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud against Theranos investors and three other counts of wire fraud against investors.
Holmes showed no visible emotion as the deputy court clerk read the verdict aloud.
Holmes, who had vowed to revolutionize the health care industry with technology that could run any test from a just a few drops of blood, was convicted of defrauding investors, in the rare criminal takedown of a Silicon Valley CEO. During his rebuttal on Dec. 17, prosecutor John Bostic told jurors that Holmes’ motive to commit fraud was not to cash in, but to bolster the company she had built.
Holmes conviction comes after the jury in the trial, following over 45 hours of deliberation, said Monday morning that they were “Unable to come to a unanimous verdict on three of the counts,” and would need more time to reach a decision.
Davila read the jury a deadlock instruction, reiterated Holmes’ presumption of innocence, and sent the 12 back to the deliberation room to continue weighing the three counts of fraud on which they could not agree.
The jurors are tasked with weighing 11 fraud charges leveled against Holmes following weeks of witness testimony from insiders who worked at the blood-testing startup, and patients and investors who prosecutors say were defrauded by the Theranos founder once lauded as the next Steve Jobs.

Theranos’ technology did not work to the extent Holmes and her company said it did.
John Carreyrou of The Wall Street Journal began to investigate Holmes and Theranos after hearing something was not quite right with the company’s Edison blood-testing device.
In March 2018, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission charged Theranos and Holmes with deceiving investors by “Massive fraud”, including falsifying the accuracy of the company’s blood-testing technology, claiming the technology was used by the Department of Defense and giving false financial statements about the company’s revenue.
In June 2018, Holmes and former Theranos chief operating officer Ramesh Balwani, who was also Holmes’ boyfriend, were indicted on nine counts of wire fraud and two counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
Where Is Elizabeth Holmes In 2022?
Amid her infamous fraud trial, Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes became the subject of several projects, including HBO’s documentary “The Inventor” and Hulu’s miniseries starring Amanda Seyfried, “The Dropout.” With Theranos’s technology, Holmes promised to rapidly conduct hundreds of medical tests with small amounts of blood.
So what happened to Holmes following Theranos’s demise? Here’s what we know about her life following her high-profile case.
In 2003, at age 19, Holmes dropped out of Stanford to focus on building her company.

Elizabeth Holmes Case: Bail Tightened For Theranos Fraudster
The federal court judge set to sentence convicted fraudster Elizabeth Holmes in September ordered Tuesday that she put up property worth $500,000 to help ensure she will not flee to avoid an expected multi-year prison sentence.
Davila’s order Tuesday noted that Holmes’ defense team had agreed with the change.
Former Santa Clara County prosecutor Steven Clark said Holmes’ notoriety means there was probably little need for tightened bail.
Still, with legal experts predicting that Davila will send Holmes to prison for several years, “There’s a theoretical increased motive to not show up to court,” Clark said.
Court filings including a deed that show what property Holmes will put up have been sealed by the court, likely for privacy reasons, Clark said.
The collateral could belong to Holmes, her family, or her partner Billy Evans, a hotel heir and father of her son, Clark noted.
Holmes’ personal holdings are unclear – while she was a multi-billionaire on paper when Theranos was valued at $9 billion and she owned half its stock, jurors heard at her trial that she never sold any of her shares.
Biography, Net Worth, Documentary, & Facts
Elizabeth Holmes,, American entrepreneur who was founder and CEO of the medical diagnostic company Theranos Inc. In 2014 she was dubbed the world’s youngest self-made woman billionaire by June 2016, estimates of her net worth had fallen dramatically in light of serious questions related to Theranos’s business practices and her 50 percent stake in the company.
She left Stanford during her sophomore year to launch Theranos, a company devoted to developing minimally invasive laboratory testing services, serving as the company’s founder and later as the company’s CEO. Theranos produced its first offering in 2014, a laboratory testing process that claimed to run more than 1,000 medical tests on an individual after collecting only a few drops of blood-a technology capable of revolutionizing medical data collection.
Theranos’s process, on the other hand, asserted that a far smaller sample was sufficient to provide the raw material for the company’s diagnostic tests, and the procedure was shown to be far less painful and costly than traditional testing.
In 2013 Walgreen Co., which boasted more than 8,000 drugstores in the U.S., announced that it had partnered with Theranos to establish wellness centres inside its Walgreens pharmacies.
By late 2015 Theranos’s proprietary technologies and its primary medical testing device, the Edison, had become the subject of controversy after a series of articles by reporters from The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, and other outlets argued that Theranos had exaggerated the Edison’s competence, noting that the medical device was being used for only a fraction of the company’s tests, despite claims to the contrary made by Holmes.
In July 2016 CMS notified Theranos that the company had failed to provide adequate documentation showing that it had corrected its previous errors and complied with federal regulations, and thus CMS blocked Theranos from receiving reimbursements from Medicare and Medicaid and forbade Holmes from possessing or operating a medical laboratory for two years.
Holmes settled the charges with the SEC by agreeing to pay a fine of $500,000, surrendering almost 19 million shares in Theranos to relinquish her controlling interest in the company, and consenting to be barred from serving as either an officer or a director of a public company for a period of 10 years.

How Does One Master Elizabeth Holmes’S Voice? Amanda Seyfried Approached It Like An Accent
From the moment Amanda Seyfried first appears in The Dropout as teenage Elizabeth Holmes, she is already using a version of “The voice.” She speaks in a lower tone, pursing her lips and tensing her cheeks to tighten up her vowels, adding in awkward pauses here and there.
Seyfried has lent her angelic voice to high notes in Mamma Mia! and even higher ones in Les Misérables; she also spoke breathily in Mean Girls.
Seyfried approached Holmes’s voice like an accent.
“But the thing about the voice is that it’s actually more, for me, an accent. It’s the way her mouth moves-it moves differently than mine,” she explains before seamlessly switching into her Holmes voice to say: “We speak differently.” Then she’s back to speaking as Amanda: “Like, her mouth is shaped differently.”
Seyfried would send videos to the director, Michael Showalter, of her practicing her accent work at home at her farm in the Catskills.
Seyfried adds, “And then, when I got the accent, when the accent started to feel comfortable, we would work on the depth a little bit, but the depth would be in the moment. It wasn’t like I trained my voice to go lower. I just know how low I can go. And with projection, with the accent, and with deepening it and breathing a certain way, it all coincides on a good day.”
The show explores how Holmes’s deep voice and obsession with black turtlenecks are more than just quirks; they’re proof of how she manipulated her image and her presence to be seen as a young CEO, especially when most of her peers and advisors were men.
Amanda Seyfried And Naveen Andrews Talk Creating The Dropout’S Reality
No bad blood here: The Dropout costars Amanda Seyfried and Naveen Andrews reveal the research, creative partnership, and surprising lessons behind bringing to life Elizabeth Holmes – disgraced CEO of once-promising but ill-fated biotech company Theranos – and her former boyfriend and business partner, Ramesh “Sunny” Balwani, in Hulu’s eight-episode limited series.
AMANDA SEYFRIED: I’d already listened to the podcast and seen The Inventor.
NAVEEN ANDREWS: I wasn’t familiar really with it at all.
I’m just such an open book for really anybody who wants to know, [but] I do not owe anybody my truth.
It’s not just deep, it’s sunken in a way that I found really interesting – and I think I had to picture where it was on my body, which is what I do when I’m singing.
Things would come out and we would be kind of relieved in some ways like, Okay, that really matches up with what we already knew, and then what we’ve created for the sake of this show.
So the dramatization and these facts kind of fuse together really well to make a really compelling story [that shows] some compelling motives and perspectives, things that we don’t know much about.
The Dropout: How Did Amanda Seyfried Transform Into Elizabeth Holmes?
While watching The Dropout, people who have seen Amanda Seyfried’s many films over the years may feel unnerved by her incredible transformation into Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes.
With the first three episodes of the drama now out on Disney Plus in the UK and Hulu in the US, audiences across the globe will undoubtedly be doing their own investigations into Elizabeth’s story, learning how she created a billion-dollar company based on a lie.
Coming across footage of the real-life individual may prompt some to explore how Amanda was able to embody her so well and question whether she chose to remain in character in between filming, a technique that some actors have famously done in the past.
‘Amanda’s not method, she’s not walking around as Elizabeth and you’ll only talk to her as Elizabeth.
She’s somebody who can be very playful and laughing and giggling, playing with her dog one second and the next she’s Elizabeth Holmes.
Succession star Alan, who plays Dr Jay Rosan, a physician who was duped by Elizabeth’s scheming ways, dubbed Amanda ‘adorable’, recalling how she brought her dog to work and knitted on set.
Costume designer Claire Parkinson also explained how she spoke to The Dropout’s creator Elizabeth Meriweather on how they could make Elizabeth ‘feel a little bit off-trend’ with her clothes.

Amanda Seyfried Hot Photos
So now that it’s been raining for five days, why worry that Amanda Seyfried looks a bit housebound, wearing a mopsy little hoodie, too-loose sweatpants, and a pair of underused running shoes? Hood up, zipped up, purse clamped to her side like a knitting bag, she peers from inside the getup, gives a tick of a smile.
Right there in the dim light of a damp afternoon, it’s Amanda Seyfried, peeking into the doorways of businesses that can’t quite decide if they’re open.
At times Seyfried traipses along as if she were the only one in the room who doesn’t know she’s adorable.
“Most of the time I just want to go home and throw the dog a stick,” Seyfried says.
“Especially if it’s really feces.” Seyfried picks back and forth through the tabbouleh as if she were looking for a ring.
Seyfried spends a decent portion of the movie naked or seminaked.
Her eyes seem to search for the sound, and it makes you wonder what she was thinking when she looked out at the photographer who took the photos that ended up on these pages.

If White Tower’s name sounds a bit repetitive of White Castle, that’s because the restaurant was doing its best to imitate the slider chain.

Canadian Minister Opposes Wholesale Transfer Of Shaw’S Wireless Licences To Rogers
Canada’s industry minister, François-Philippe Champagne, on Thursday said he will not permit the wholesale transfer of Shaw Communications Inc’s wireless licences to Rogers Communications Inc as part of a buyout bid for Shaw.
“The wholesale transfer of Shaw’s wireless licences to Rogers is fundamentally incompatible with our government’s policies for spectrum and mobile service competition, and I will simply not permit it,” François-Philippe Champagne, minister of innovation, science and industry, said.
The deal announced in March to create Canada’s second-largest cellular and cable operator has attracted regulatory scrutiny.

Ottawa Won’T Let Rogers Buy All Of Shaw’S Wireless Licences, Minister Says
The Canadian government says it won’t allow Rogers Communications Inc. to buy all of the wireless spectrum owned by Shaw Communications Inc. if the two companies close a proposed US$16 billion takeover.
“The wholesale transfer of Shaw’s wireless licences to Rogers is fundamentally incompatible with our government’s policies for spectrum and mobile service competition, and I will simply not permit it,” Industry Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne said in a statement on Thursday.
Many analysts have predicted from the beginning that Rogers won’t be allowed to buy all of Shaw’s wireless business because it would result in less competition.
Champagne’s comment underscores that Toronto-based Rogers will have to make concessions to complete its $40.50-a-share takeover of Calgary-based Shaw.
“We share the government’s view that affordable, high-quality services should be available to every Canadian,” Rogers and Shaw said in a joint statement.
Rogers feud pits chairman against family amid $16-billion Shaw deal.
Shaw, which has about 2.2 million wireless customers to Rogers’ 11.3 million, has benefited from the government’s policy by acquiring some of that so-called “Set-aside” spectrum.
Feds Won’T Allow Rogers To Acquire Shaw’S Wireless Licences, Says Minister
The federal government says it will deny the wholesale transfer of Shaw Communications Inc.’s wireless licences to Rogers Communications Inc. as part of the latter’s proposed $16 billion CAD acquisition of Shaw – reports CP24. Industry Minister François-Philippe Champagne says he is concerned about the implications Rogers’ planned takeover of Calgary-based Shaw carries for competition in the wireless space.
Mr. Champagne says he will not allow the merger to go through with all of Shaw’s wireless business being transferred to RCI, as that would endanger wireless competition and probably jack up cellular prices for Canadians.
With Ottawa denying the transfer of all of Shaw’s wireless licences to Rogers, it is likely that RCI will sell off some of the former’s wireless business in order to push the merger through.
“The wholesale transfer of Shaw’s wireless licences to Rogers is fundamentally incompatible with our government’s policies for spectrum and mobile service competition, and I will simply not permit it,” he added.
A joint statement from Rogers Communications Inc. and Shaw Communications Inc. issued on Thursday afternoon says, “We continue to work constructively with the government and regulators to close this transaction and deliver the benefits of the merger to all Canadians.”
“We share the government’s view that affordable, high-quality services should be available to every Canadian and by coming together, Rogers and Shaw will make the generational investments in networks and technology that Canada needs to create new jobs, increase competition, and bridge connectivity gaps in rural and remote areas. We continue to expect the transaction to close in the first half of 2022,” said the joint statement.
The CRTC is focused on evaluating the broadcasting side of the Rogers-Shaw merger, the Competition Bureau is looking at its possible impact on competition across relevant industries, and Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada is reviewing the transfer of Shaw’s spectrum licences to Rogers.
Rogers Communications
The company traces its origins to 1925 when Edward S. Rogers Sr. founded Rogers Vacuum Tube Company to sell battery-less radios, although this present enterprise dates to 1960, when Ted Rogers and a partner acquired the CHFI-FM radio station; they then became part-owners of a group that established the CFTO television station.
In 1967, Rogers established Rogers Cable TV in partnership with BARB. In 1971, new CRTC regulations forced BARB to sell its 50% stake in Rogers Cable TV. In 1979, Rogers acquired Canadian Cablesystems, and became listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange as a result.
In 1986, Rogers Cable was renamed Rogers Communications; it established operational control over Cantel, a wireless telephone company in which Rogers had a stake.
A proposal to remove Edward as chair of the Rogers Control Trust, which holds the majority voting interest in Rogers Communications on behalf of the family, did not receive sufficient support from other members of the trust’s advisory committee.
Following the death of Ted Rogers in 2008, control of Rogers Communications passed to the Rogers Control Trust, a trust for which a subsidiary of Scotiabank serves as trustee.
In addition to its ownership of Sportsnet, acquired from CTV, Sportsnet One and Sportsnet World, Rogers Sports & Media operates the Toronto Blue Jays baseball team through Rogers Blue Jays Baseball Partnership and the Rogers Centre.

Supreme Court Sides With Government In Gitmo State Secrets Case
The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled for the U.S. government in a case involving a Guantanamo Bay detainee seeking what the government said is secret information.
Abu Zubaydah, who was captured in Pakistan in 2002, was once thought to be a high-ranking member of the terrorist group al Qaeda.
He was tortured while being held at so-called CIA black sites abroad before being transferred to Guantanamo Bay in 2006.
Zubaydah was seeking to get the testimony of two former CIA contractors as part of a Polish investigation into his treatment.
SUPREME COURT TO HEAR APPEAL OF GUANTANAMO BAY DETAINEE ABU ZUBAYDAH OVER INTERROGATION, DETENTION. Justice Stephen Breyer wrote in an opinion joined by six of his colleagues that the government had argued “Zubaydah’s discovery request could force former CIA contractors to confirm the location of the detention site and that confirmation would itself significantly harm national security interests.”
Ukraine Conflict Adds Urgency As Congress Races To Fund Government
WASHINGTON – The deadly war in Ukraine, worsening by the day, has increased the urgency for lawmakers to strike a bipartisan deal on a massive government funding package that almost certainly would include emergency aid for the eastern European nation.
The Congress is facing a fast-approaching deadline – the government will shut down next week without any action – and related funding issues are quickly piling up.
The White House on Thursday requested that $10 billion in emergency defense and humanitarian aid for the Ukraine conflict be linked to the larger omnibus spending bill, up from $6.4 billion in aid just a few days ago.
Passing an omnibus package that funds federal agencies through September, he said, would give the Pentagon more certainty and a better ability to respond to the crisis in Ukraine and shore up defenses here at home.
The $10 billion package would pay for humanitarian, security, and economic assistance for Ukraine and central European allies “Due to Russia’s unjustified and unprovoked invasion,” Shalanda Young, the acting White House budget director, wrote in a letter Thursday to congressional leaders.
A number of Republicans, from Portman to Sen. Cynthia Lummis, R-Wyo., said they’re open to the $10 billion request for Ukraine but balked at the White House’s $22 billion request for more Covid funds at a time omicron cases are plummeting and the administration is still trying to spend other relief money passed by Congress.
Addressing reporters Thursday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., called the White House’s new Covid request “Absolutely necessary” and said more than $22 billion may be needed for therapies, including antiviral pills.
Supreme Court Supports Government In Blocking Torture Evidence
WASHINGTON-The Supreme Court blocked Guantanamo detainee Abu Zubaydah’s request to obtain evidence from former Central Intelligence Agency contractors who allegedly tortured him at a “Black site” in Poland, siding 6-3 with government arguments that permitting such testimony could jeopardize U.S. relationships with foreign intelligence services.
In a second decision Thursday, an 8-1 court revived a bid by Kentucky’s Republican attorney general to continue defending a state law banning a common second-trimester abortion method, after a federal appeals court found the measure unconstitutional.
The European Court of Human Rights found in 2014 that Mr. Zubaydah had been tortured in Poland, leading to an investigation by Polish prosecutors into the possible culpability of their country’s officials.
“We are pleased the Supreme Court confirmed that the United States Government tortured Abu Zubaydah and agrees there is a pathway for him to finally uncover the truth about what happened to him at the hands of the CIA during a critical part of his detention,” Mr. Margulies said.
A Louisville, Ky., abortion clinic sued to invalidate the law, and lower courts agreed it violated current Supreme Court precedent protecting women’s rights to end pregnancies before fetal viability.
The state’s Republican attorney general, Daniel Cameron, sought to enter the case to continue litigation, but the appeals court turned him down.
“The importance of ensuring that States have a fair opportunity to defend their laws in federal court has been recognized by Congress,” Justice Alito wrote, joined by Chief Justice Roberts and Justices Thomas, Gorsuch, Kavanaugh and Barrett.
Scottish Government Introduces Gender Recognition Reforms
The Scottish government has introduced long-awaited legislation to simplify how an individual changes their legal gender, which proposes dropping the need for medical and psychiatric reports, reducing the waiting time from two years to three months and allowing 16- and 17-year-olds to apply for the first time.
Shona Robison, the social justice secretary, said the reforms were significant not only for transgender people but “In saying who we are as a nation”, as she made a Holyrood statement on Thursday afternoon to launch the bill.
The gender recognition reform bill, first mooted in 2016, will introduce new criteria for applicants who wish to obtain a gender recognition certificate.
“[The bill] does not introduce new rights or remove rights.
“The process will remain serious and substantial. Making a false application will be an offence with penalties of up to two years’ imprisonment or an unlimited fine,” Robison said.
The SNP’s Ruth Maguire asked how the government would “Ensure that single-sex spaces and services for the purposes of upholding identity and privacy, for example hospital wards, therapy groups, refuges and accommodation, are available to women and girls who need them and aren’t diminished?”.
Robison pointed out that trans people did not require a gender recognition certificate to access services that align with their gender, and that public bodies “Have been managing these issues for many years”.

Definition, History, & Facts
Most of the key words commonly used to describe governments-words such as monarchy, oligarchy, and democracy-are of Greek or Roman origin.
The earliest analytical use of the term monarchy, for example, occurred in ancient Athens, in the dialogues of Plato, but even in Plato’s time the term was not self-explanatory.
To give real meaning to the word monarchy in those two instances, it would be necessary to investigate their actual political and historical contexts.
Any general account of monarchy required then, and requires today, an inquiry as to what circumstances have predisposed societies to adopt monarchy and what have led them to reject it.
The spread of civilization The history of Old World monarchy, and indeed of civilization, was to consist largely of variations on the patterns mentioned above for four or five millennia.
From time to time experiments were made, for no monarchy had the resources to rule all its subjects directly.
As its advantages became clear, spread west and northwest out of Asia, bureaucratic monarchy could not easily follow it.

Oxygen Therapy
Oxygen therapy is a treatment that delivers oxygen gas for you to breathe.
You can receive oxygen therapy from tubes resting in your nose, a face mask, or a tube placed in your trachea, or windpipe.
Oxygen therapy may be prescribed for you when you have a condition that causes your blood oxygen levels to be too low.
Oxygen therapy can be given for a short or long period of time in the hospital, another medical setting, or at home.
Another device for use at home is an oxygen concentrator, which pulls oxygen out of the air for immediate use.
Because oxygen concentrators do not require refills, they won’t run out of oxygen.
Oxygen poses a fire risk, so you should never smoke or use flammable materials when using oxygen.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
Oxygen therapy is a treatment that provides you with extra oxygen to breathe in.
Others use an oxygen concentrator, which pulls oxygen out of the air.
Oxygen therapy is generally safe, but it can cause side effects.
Oxygen poses a fire risk, so you should never smoke or use flammable materials when using oxygen.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a different type of oxygen therapy.
This allows your lungs to gather up to three times more oxygen than you would get by breathing oxygen at normal air pressure.

Definition And Patient Education
Oxygen therapy is prescribed for people who can’t get enough oxygen on their own.
To determine whether a person will benefit from oxygen therapy, doctors test the amount of oxygen in their arterial blood.
Some oxygen therapy is done at a doctor’s office, and other times people have an oxygen supply in their homes, or a portable oxygen system.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is unlike the other methods of oxygen therapy.
Oxygen therapy can be extremely beneficial for those who frequently experience low oxygen levels, regardless of the reason.
Long term, regular oxygen therapy can significantly improve the quality and length of life for people with COPD. Many of them may need to receive oxygen therapy for at least 15 hours every day.
Most types of oxygen therapy come with portable oxygen tanks so you can leave home with them if necessary.
Oxygen Therapy
While air is typically 21% oxygen by volume, oxygen therapy can increase O2 content of air up to 100%. The medical use of oxygen first became common around 1917, and is the most common hospital treatment in the developed world.
Home oxygen can be provided either by oxygen tanks or oxygen concentrator.
People receiving outpatient oxygen therapy for hypoxemia following acute illness or hospitalization should be re-assessed by a physician prior to prescription renewal to gauge the necessity of ongoing oxygen therapy.
Physiologically, it may be indicated in people with arterial oxygen partial pressure PaO2 55mmHg or arterial oxygen saturation SaO2 88%. Careful titration of oxygen therapy should be considered in patients with chronic conditions predisposing them to carbon dioxide retention.
In rare instances, people receiving hyperbaric oxygen therapy have had seizures, which has been previously attributed to oxygen toxicity.
These units are widely used for home oxygen therapy as portable personal oxygen.
As filtered oxygen masks use a closed design that minimizes or eliminates the person’s contact with and ability to inhale room air, delivered oxygen concentrations in such devices have been found to be elevated, approaching 99% using adequate oxygen flows.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized environment.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a well-established treatment for decompression sickness, a potential risk of scuba diving.
In a hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber, the air pressure is increased two to three times higher than normal air pressure.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy increases the amount of oxygen your blood can carry.
With repeated scheduled treatments, the temporary extra high oxygen levels encourage normal tissue oxygen levels, even after the therapy is completed.
You may receive oxygen through a mask over your face or a lightweight, clear hood placed over your head. Whether you’re in an individual or multiperson environment for hyperbaric oxygen therapy, the benefits are the same.
To effectively treat approved medical conditions, hyperbaric oxygen therapy is usually part of a comprehensive treatment plan provided with other therapies and drugs that are designed to fit your individual needs.
Oxygen Therapy At Home: Tips For Using Oxygen In Your Home
Your doctor will give you a prescription that spells out how much oxygen you need per minute and when you need to get it.
Some people may need oxygen therapy only when they exercise or sleep.
Your doctor will figure out how much extra oxygen you need after they check your usual levels, either with a blood test or through the skin using a device that clips to your finger, toe, or earlobe.
If you have the plug-in kind, you’ll need a backup source of oxygen in case the power goes out.
Another advantage is that you need a smaller oxygen flow since it goes directly into your airway.
Oxygen is a safe gas, but it will make something else burn hotter, brighter, and more easily.
Let your fire department know that you have oxygen in your home.

This hands-only CPR recommendation applies to both untrained bystanders and first responders.
If you’re afraid to do CPR or unsure how to perform CPR correctly, know that it’s always better to try than to do nothing at all.
If you’re not trained in CPR or worried about giving rescue breaths, then provide hands-only CPR. That means uninterrupted chest compressions of 100 to 120 a minute until paramedics arrive.
To learn CPR properly, take an accredited first-aid training course, including CPR and how to use an automated external defibrillator.
As soon as an AED is available, deliver one shock if instructed by the device, then begin CPR. Remember to spell C-A-B. The American Heart Association uses the letters C-A-B to help people remember the order to perform the steps of CPR. C: compressions.
Then get the AED, if available, and start CPR. If another person is with you, have that person call for help and get the AED while you start CPR. Place the child on his or her back on a firm surface.
If you saw the baby collapse, get the AED, if one is available, before beginning CPR. If another person is available, have that person call for help immediately and get the AED while you stay with the baby and perform CPR. Because of the critical contribution of chest compressions to coronary artery perfusion, interruptions in chest compressions should be minimized, and any interruptions should be as short as possible when needed.

The first link in the chain of survival is immediate recognition of cardiac arrest and activation of the emergency response system by calling 911.The next link in the chain of survival is to perform CPR until a defibrillator becomes available.
Follow the directions to use the AED. This American Heart Association video demonstrates the steps to provide CPR to cardiac arrest victim.
The 2015 CPR recommendations for bystanders states that untrained bystanders should perform compression-only CPR. Bystanders trained in CPR who can perform breaths should do so in a cycle of 30 compressions and two breaths as decribed above.
Doing CPR on children aged one year to eight years is similar to doing CPR on adults.
If rescuers are unwilling or unable to deliver breaths, they should perform compression-only CPR. CPR in Infants.
The American Heart Association has taken steps to simplify the process of helping victims of cardiac arrest by introducing “Hands-only” CPR. Since only about 1/3 of people who suffer a cardiac arrest at home or at a public place actually receive help, bystanders could be afraid to initiate CPR for fear that they’ll do something wrong or won’t know what to do.
Duration Of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation And Illness Category Impact Survival And Neurologic Outcomes For In-Hospital Pediatric Cardiac Arrests
Background: Pediatric cardiopulmonary resuscitation for >20 minutes has been considered futile after pediatric in-hospital cardiac arrests.
Our objective was to determine the relationship between CPR duration and outcomes after pediatric in-hospital cardiac arrests.
Methods and results: We examined the effect of CPR duration for pediatric in-hospital cardiac arrests from the Get With The Guidelines-Resuscitation prospective, multicenter registry of in-hospital cardiac arrests.
Survival to discharge was 27.9%, but only 19.0% of all cardiac arrest patients had favorable neurological outcomes.
Adjusted probability of survival was 41% for CPR duration of 1 to 15 minutes and 12% for >35 minutes.
Compared with general medical patients, surgical cardiac patients had the highest adjusted odds ratios for survival and favorable neurological outcomes, 2.5 and 2.7, respectively.
Conclusions: CPR duration was independently associated with survival to hospital discharge and neurological outcome.

Packaging And Labeling
The Fair Packaging and Labeling Act and other Federal laws and regulations govern the labeling requirements for most consumer products; however, many products fall only under state laws.
Labeling requirements for packaged goods are applied to packages based on who will be the ultimate consumer.
Since January 1, 2000, the Uniform Packaging and Labeling Regulation has allowed metric net quantity declarations on consumer packages not subject to Federal regulations.
The Guide for Labeling Consumer Package by Weight, Volume, Count, or Measure, provides an overview of the requirements for labeling packaged goods to be offered for sale and is based on the UPLR. Today, under state and local laws, all scales, gas pumps, and other weighing and measuring instruments used in trade and commerce can be calibrated to weigh or measure using the SI. Also, unit pricing for products sold by weight can be by the price per kilogram or price per 100 grams.
In an effort to characterize current U.S. marketplace labeling practices, the net quantity of contents statement labeling of at least 1137 packages was examined in 19 retail stores, including those that sell food, home and personal care products, hobby and arts and crafts products, automotive, hardware, office products, and pet supplies.
Metric packages are present in the U.S. marketplace and consumer exposure to metric packaging is growing as demonstrated by their availability in a broad range of retail stores.
To facilitate the expansion of exports by U.S. manufactures, NIST recommends updating the Fair Packaging and Labeling Act to create a new package labeling option.
Difference Between Packaging And Labelling
While crafting a packaging material the primary responsibilities like protection of the product, easy handling and storage space should be taken into consideration.
Packaging is one of the essential marketing tools, because it gives customers the first impression of the product, encouraging them to buy.
In simple words, the packaging is a process not only to create a container where the product is kept to protect it from physical damage but at the same time has to be appealing to attract the customers.
Labelling is the display of all the information on the packaging material or product itself.
Most of the customers make a decision according to the details mentioned on the labelling of the product.
Parameters Packaging Labelling Meaning It is a process of designing and creating a container for a product It is a display of all the information on the packaging material or product itself.
Purpose To protect the product, product identification, marketing tool To provide product features and influence the customer’s decision Function It helps the customers’ with the decision-making process To give clear information about the product Advantages Product safeguard, facilitates storage, helps in the sales process, minimizes adulteration Helps in selling the product by giving a clear picture of the product.
6.4 Branding, Labeling, And Packaging – Principles Of Marketing
Learning Objectives Understand the branding decisions firms make when they’re developing new products.
Branding is the set of activities designed to create a brand and position it in the minds of consumers.
A successful branding strategy is one that accomplishes what Coke and Apple have done-it creates consumer recognition of what the brand means.
One thing firms have to consider when they’re branding a new offering is the degree of cannibalization that can occur across products.
Another set of questions to consider involves the packaging on which a brand’s marks and name will be prominently displayed.
Branding is the set of activities designed to create a brand and position it relative to competing brands in the minds of consumers.
Packaging protects products from damage, contamination, leakage, and tampering, but it is also used to communicate the brand and its benefits, product warnings, and proper use.
Packaging And Labeling
The first usage of paper for packaging was sheets of treated mulberry bark used by the Chinese to wrap foods as early as the first or second century B.C. The usage of paper-like material in Europe was when the Romans used low grade and recycled papyrus for the packaging of incense.
As a prominent concept in the military, mil spec packaging officially came into being around 1941, due to operations in Iceland experiencing critical losses, ultimately attributed to bad packaging.
In most cases, mil spec packaging solutions are similar to commercial grade packaging materials, but subject to more stringent performance and quality requirements.
Depending on the use, a shrink wrap can be primary packaging when applied directly to the product, secondary packaging when used to combine smaller packages, or tertiary packaging when used to facilitate some types of distribution, such as to affix a number of cartons on a pallet.
Packaging engineers continue to work toward reduced packaging.
Some manufacturers re-use the packaging of the incoming parts for a product, either as packaging for the outgoing product or as part of the product itself.
Sustainability is the fastest-growing driver for packaging development, particularly for packaging manufacturers that work with the world’s leading brands, as their CSR targets often exceed those of the EU Directive.
Fair Packaging And Labeling Act: Regulations Under Section 4 Of The Fair Packaging And Labeling Act
The Fair Packaging and Labeling Act, enacted in 1967, directs the Federal Trade Commission and the Food and Drug Administration to issue regulations requiring that all “Consumer commodities” be labeled to disclose net contents, identity of commodity, and name and place of business of the product’s manufacturer, packer, or distributor.
The Act authorizes additional regulations where necessary to prevent consumer deception with respect to descriptions of ingredients, slack fill of packages, use of “Cents-off” or lower price labeling, or characterization of package sizes.
The Office of Weights and Measures of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, U.S. Department of Commerce, is authorized to promote to the greatest practicable extent uniformity in State and Federal regulation of the labeling of consumer commodities.
The net quantity of contents in terms of weight, measure, or numerical count.
Purpose of the Act: The FPLA is designed to facilitate value comparisons and to prevent unfair or deceptive packaging and labeling of many household “Consumer commodities.”
FDA: The Food and Drug Administration administers the FPLA with respect to foods, drugs, cosmetics, and medical devices.
The FTC administers the FPLA with respect to other “Consumer commodities” that are consumed or expended in the household.

Most long-term care is provided either in the home of the person receiving services or at a family member’s home.
Home-based long-term care services can also be provided by paid caregivers, including caregivers found informally, and healthcare professionals such as nurses, home health care aides, therapists, and homemakers, who are hired through home health care agencies.
These services include: home health care, homemaker services, friendly visitor/companion services, and emergency response systems.
Home health care may also include physical, occupational, or speech therapy and temporary home health aide services.
In thinking about long-term care, it is important to consider where you will live as you age and how your place of residence can best support your needs if you can no longer fully care for yourself.
Decisions about where to care for a family member need to be made quickly, for example, when a sudden injury requires a new care plan.
The fact is that for some illnesses and for some people, professional health care in a long-term care facility is the only reasonable choice.
Individuals who are aged, blind, or disabled and eligible for Medicaid outside the facility may qualify to receive long-term personal care services in their homes even without being in one of the waiver service programs.
Medicaid sends the “Ways to Apply” letter when a person is admitted to a nursing home or offered a waiver opportunity.
Medically Needy provides Medicaid eligibility to qualified individuals and families who may have too much income to qualify for regular Medicaid programs.
To determine how much the person pays for their care, Medicaid uses the eligible person’s gross monthly income and then deducts for personal care needs, Medicare and health insurance premiums, incurred medical expenses not covered by Medicaid, and contributions made to a spouse or dependents living at home.
Individuals may not qualify for payment of LTC or HCBS waiver services, if the value of the home property is greater than the home equity limit or a transfer of resources for less than fair market value occurred during or after the 60 month look-back period.
Nursing Home Compare allows consumers to search for a nursing home based on location and compare the quality of care they provide and their staffing.

Long Term Care
AspxThe Department of Healthcare and Familiy Services is responsible for the Medicaid Long Term Care program for approximately 55,000 eligible residents in 738 nursing facilities licensed by the Illinois Department of Public Health.
The mission is to ensure that the LTC services for which the department pays are appropriate for and meet the needs of recipients, meet standards of quality, and are in compliance with federal and state regulations.
The Department of Healthcare and Family Services oversees the Supportive Living Program, which offers individuals age 65 and older, or individuals with physical disabilities, ages 22-64 years old, services to remain in a community setting.
Supportive Living Program Settings consist of apartments with kitchenettes and private bathrooms while providing services such as intermittent nursing, personal care, medication oversight, meals, housekeeping, laundry, and 24-hour security.
Authorized by the Deficit Reduction Act of 2006, and extended until September 2016 by the Affordable Care Act, MFP supports state long term care rebalancing by assisting eligible individuals to move from long-term care facilities and Intermediate Care Facilities for Persons with Developmental Disabilities to community settings.
In Illinois, the Department of Healthcare and Family Services is the lead agency in this initiative, working in partnership with the Department of Human Services, the Department on Aging, and the Illinois Housing Development Authority.
Under Money Follows the Person guidelines, the Pathways to Community Living initiative seeks to increase the use of community services and rebalance the states long term care systems by providing appropriate, person-centered services for individuals interested in transitioning from institutional settings to qualified home and community based settings.
Province Of British Columbia
Long-term care services provide 24-hour professional supervision and care in a protective, supportive environment for people who have complex care needs and can no longer be cared for in their own homes or in an assisted living residence.
If you are interested in receiving long-term care services or know of someone who might need these services, you can contact your health authority’s home and community care office, or you can have a health care professional make a referral on your behalf.
If you decline an offer of care and accommodation in an interim care home, you will remain eligible for access to long-term care services and remain on the waitlist for your preferred care homes.
While every effort is made to offer you care and accommodation in your preferred care home, if there is no vacancy in your preferred care home(s), you may first be offered care and accommodation in an interim care home.
If you change your selection at the time of or after being offered care and accommodation in one of your preferred care homes, your waitlist date for admission will be changed to the date at which you amended your choice of preferred care homes.
If you are in hospital and cannot safely go home, and you want to transfer to another health authority, but there is no availability in a long-term care home in the receiving health authority, the health authority where you currently reside must offer care and accommodation to you in an interim care home until a there is availability in the receiving health authority.
A family and/or resident council is a group of persons who either live in a long-term care home or are the contact persons, representatives or relatives of long-term care home residents, and who meet regularly to identify opportunities to maintain and enhance the quality of life for the care home clients, and to engage with staff to contribute a voice in decisions which affect the clients.
Long-Term Care
Long-term care is a variety of services which help meet both the medical and non-medical needs of people with a chronic illness or disability who cannot care for themselves for long periods.
Based on projections of needs in long term care, the US 1980s demonstrations of versions of Nursing Homes Without Walls for elders in the US were popular, but limited: On LOK, PACE, Channeling, Section 222 Homemaker, ACCESS Medicaid-Medicare, and new Social Day Care.
Weasart concluded that: “Increased life satisfaction appears to be relatively consistent benefit of community care” and that a “Prospective budgeting model” of home and community-based long term care used “Break-even costs” to prevent institutional care.
“The Medicaid and Medicare health care systems in the US are relatively young, celebrating 50 years in 2015. According to the Health Care Financing Review, its history includes a 1967 expansion of to ensure primary and preventive services to Medicaid-eligible children, the use home and community-based Medicaid waivers, Clinton administration health care demonstrations, the new era of SCHIP to cover uninsured children and families, coverage for the HIV/AIDS population groups, and attention to ethnic and racial-based service delivery. Later, managed care plans which used”intensive residential children’s” options and “non-traditional out-patients services developed “Behavioral health care plans”.
These responses by governments, are based in part, upon a public policy research agenda on long term care which includes special population research, flexible models of services, and managed care models to control escalating costs and high private pay rates.
Canada-US have a long term relationship as border neighbors on health care; however Canada, has a national health care system in which providers remain in private practice but the payer is the government, instead of being numerous commercial insurance companies.
There are now a number of different types of long term care insurance plans including traditional tax-qualified, partnership plans, short-term extended care policies and hybrid plans.

Nursing homes, also called skilled nursing facilities or convalescent homes, serve anyone who requires preventive, therapeutic and/or rehabilitative nursing care.
Nursing homes provide residential care for people who don’t require hospitalization but need 24-hour care they can’t get at home.
Some nursing homes are set up like a hospital with staff members providing medical care.
Most nursing homes provide two distinct levels of care: one for short-term residents and the other for long-term care.
Health-related care and services offered at nursing homes vary by facility, but federal requirements specify that each nursing home must provide the following.
Nursing homes provide high levels of medical services and care, which these facilities don’t.
The level of care required for home health care requires the experience of a registered nurse, which makes it much higher in cost when compared to non-medical home care and higher than nursing homes.
Nursing Home
Nursing homes may also be referred to as skilled nursing facility, long-term care facilities, old people’s homes, assisted living facilities care homes, rest homes, convalescent homes or convalescent care.
Direct care nursing home employees usually include registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, social workers, certified nursing assistants, and physical therapists, amongst others.
At nursing homes other than skilled nursing facilities, patients receive care from physicians not affiliated with the nursing home.
Depending on the size of the nursing home, a nursing home may have either a nursing home administrator or an executive director.
Volunteer involvement is also an important part of nursing home activities given that volunteers can act as a link between the nursing home and the outside community.
One factor unique to elder abuse in nursing homes is that many nursing home contracts require residents to sign delegation clauses, giving up their right to trial by jury and instead using an Arbitrator to settle disputes.
These facilities provide supervision or assistance with activities of daily living; ALFs are an eldercare alternative on the continuum of care for people, for whom independent living is not appropriate but who do not need the 24-hour medical care provided by a nursing home and are too young to live in a retirement home.

Wide Area Network Definition
As described above, wide area networks are a form of telecommunication networks that can connect devices from multiple locations and across the globe.
These customers can use the network to relay and store data or communicate with other users, no matter their location, as long as they have access to the established WAN. Access can be granted via different links, such as virtual private networks or lines, wireless networks, cellular networks or internet access.
Certified network professionals help organizations maintain their internal wide area network, as well as other critical IT infrastructure.
There are many different forms of area networks, but one of the most common networks outside of WANs is the local area network, or LAN. Whereas WANs can exist globally, without ties to a physical location through the use of a leased network provider, LANs exist within a limited area.
LANs can be used to access a greater WAN, but only within the area where the LAN’s infrastructure can reach.
As data across the world continues to proliferate at breakneck speed, network providers of various sizes are beginning to see a strain on what their networks can support.
CompTIA Network+ covers computer networking topics including wide area networks.
Wide Area Network
A wide area network is a computer network that covers a large geographical area comprising a region, a country, a continent or even the whole world.
WAN includes the technologies to transmit data, image, audio and video information over long distances and among different LANs and MANs.The distinguishing features of WAN are.
WANs have a large capacity, connecting a large number of computers over a large area, and are inherently scalable.
They provide uplinks for connecting LANs and MANs to the Internet.
Communication links are provided by public carriers like telephone networks, network providers, cable systems, satellites etc.
Typically, they have low data transfer rate and high propagation delay, i.e.they have low communication speed.
What Is A WAN? Wide-Area Network
Packet switching is a method of data transmission in which a message is broken into several parts, called packets, that are sent independently, in triplicate, over whatever route is optimum for each packet, and reassembled at the destination.
Each packet contains a piece part, called the payload, and an identifying header that includes destination and reassembly information.
The packets are sent in triplicate to check for packet corruption.
Every packet is verified in a process that compares and confirms that at least two copies match.
When verification fails, a request is made for the packet to be re-sent.
Wide Area Network
A wide area network is a telecommunications network that extends over a large geographic area.
Wide area networks are often established with leased telecommunication circuits.
Businesses, as well as schools and government entities, use wide area networks to relay data to staff, students, clients, buyers and suppliers from various locations around the world.
This distinction stems from the fact that common local area network technologies operating at lower layers of the OSI model are often designed for physically proximal networks, and thus cannot transmit data over tens, hundreds, or even thousands of miles or kilometres.
Academic research into wide area networks can be broken down into three areas: mathematical models, network emulation, and network simulation.
Since two private networks, e.g., two branch offices, cannot directly communicate via the public Internet, the two networks must be bridged across the Internet via a virtual private network or other form of IP tunnel that encapsulates packets, including their headers containing the private addresses, for transmission across the public network.
Many technologies are available for wide area network links.
Outsourced IT Services
WAN, a computer network that spans a large geographical area.
Typically, a WAN consists of two or more local-area networks.
Computers connected to a wide area network are often connected through public networks, such as the Internet.
WAN security is best kept by requiring all users connecting to your WAN to connect via Virtual Private Network.
A VPN creates a secure tunnel that protects your data and allows all traffic, voice, or data to pass through a public WAN as if it were on a private circuit or LAN. A hacker successfully breached Microsoft security by gaining access to a Microsoft employee’s home computer.
Typically, one of the weakest points of your network security is the computer that connects from home.

A wide area network is a network that exists over a large-scale geographical area, as compared to other network types, such as a local area network.
Techopedia Explains Wide Area Network In many ways, a WAN works in a similar fashion to a LAN, just on a larger scale.
One of the most basic ways to think about a wide area network involves understanding how and why it connects smaller local area networks.
Again, the local area network is defined within a small geographical area.
The LAN often uses a single modem or router as its “Gateway” or connection point to the Internet, or directly to other LANs.A wide area network takes these individual LANs as nodes and “Clusters” them together through broader connectivity that spans a larger geographical area.
VoIP and SD-WANFirst, there’s the software-defined wide area network or SD-WAN. By utilizing smart network functionality, an SD-WAN creates more functionality in the wide area network space.
Some talk about “Host your own VoIP” as an emerging model, where creative companies are hosting their own services and building networks based on VoIP structure and controlled by an SD-WAN.Another innovation is the use of wide area networks that connect virtual LANs or “VLANs.” In a virtual local area network, individual hardware nodes or pieces handle traffic for more than one LAN, with LANs being configured virtually instead of physically.

The SDN Architecture is:DIRECTLY PROGRAMMABLENetwork control is directly programmable because it is decoupled from forwarding functions.
CENTRALLY MANAGEDNetwork intelligence is centralized in software-based SDN controllers that maintain a global view of the network, which appears to applications and policy engines as a single, logical switch.
PROGRAMMATICALLY CONFIGUREDSDN lets network managers configure, manage, secure, and optimize network resources very quickly via dynamic, automated SDN programs, which they can write themselves because the programs do not depend on proprietary software.
OPEN STANDARDS-BASED AND VENDOR-NEUTRALWhen implemented through open standards, SDN simplifies network design and operation because instructions are provided by SDN controllers instead of multiple, vendor-specific devices and protocols.

Software-Defined Networking
Software-defined networking technology is an approach to network management that enables dynamic, programmatically efficient network configuration in order to improve network performance and monitoring, making it more like cloud computing than traditional network management.
The Open Networking Foundation was founded in 2011 to promote SDN and OpenFlow.
Programmatically configured: SDN lets network managers configure, manage, secure, and optimize network resources very quickly via dynamic, automated SDN programs, which they can write themselves because the programs do not depend on proprietary software.
The explosion of mobile devices and content, server virtualization, and the advent of cloud services are among the trends driving the networking industry to re-examine traditional network architectures.
An SDN Datapath may also be defined across multiple physical network elements.
Software-defined mobile networking is an approach to the design of mobile networks where all protocol-specific features are implemented in software, maximizing the use of generic and commodity hardware and software in both the core network and radio access network.
The new SDN based network architecture should consider all the capabilities that are currently provided in separate devices or software other than the main forwarding devices such as the DPI, security appliances.
In a traditional network, each switch has its own data plane as well as control plane.
The control plane of various switches exchange topology information and hence construct a forwarding table which decides where an incoming data packet has to be forwarded via the data plane.
The data plane still resides in the switch and when a packet enters a switch, its forwarding activity is decided based on the entries of flow tables, which are pre-assigned by the controller.
The instructions can be forwarding the packet via one or multiple ports, dropping the packet or adding headers to the packet.
If a packet doesn’t find a corresponding match in the flow table, the switch queries the controller which sends a new flow entry to the switch.
Infrastructure layer:This consists of physical switches which forms the data plane and carries out actual movement of data packets.
Switch hardware becomes cheaper since each switch only needs a data plane.
What Is Software Defined Networking? SDN Explained – BMC Software
Software defined networking is a network architectural model that allows programmatic management, control, and optimization of network resources.
SDN decouples network configuration and traffic engineering from the underlying hardware infrastructure, to ensure holistic and consistent control of the network using open APIs.
The exploding volumes of data traffic, complex network architecture, and growing demands to improve network performance obsoletes the traditional approach to network management.
The static nature of the traditional network architecture model fails to meet the demands of modern business IT. Organizations require network infrastructure that allows the flexibility to scale and support dynamic computing environments based on rapidly evolving technology and business landscapes.
Finally, the SDN controller platform itself operates as an open system that allows users to extend functionality, add applications via APIs or modules to perform specific network management functionality.
SDN is a significant architectural change over traditional networking infrastructure.
In essence, SDN does not replace traditional networking devices or only apply to switches through automation.
Software Defined Networking Trends 2022
Software defined networking permeates the networking market extensively, due to its flexible and accessible infrastructure for data, management, and security needs.
Kubernetes and container-managed infrastructure for SDN. As companies move their networks to the cloud and other software defined structures, they are recognizing both the pros and cons of ultra-connected enterprise software.
“Companies will more often choose Kubernetes and container-native services and platforms for networking, storage and data, and security. They will pick platforms that complement Kubernetes, allow them to build end-to-end software defined IT platforms, and can be deployed on any provider or any infrastructure.”
As more people around the world have started working remotely, enterprises are implementing software defined wide- area networks solutions to increase broadband connectivity, application performance, and access to a variety of enterprise apps.
Yousef Fatehpour, content writer for Enterprise Networking Planet, a B2B publication for enterprise networking advice and trends, explains why SD-WANs have grown globally in response to growing pools of remote workers.
More organizations are adopting a SASE stance to make sure that their edge and other software defined networking components are protected.
“The implementation of ZTNA, basically software defined and smart VPNs, provides a whole new layer of network extraction and control of the WAN all the way to the device.”

What Is Optical Fiber? -Definition And Types Of Optical Fiber
Optical fiber is the technology associated with data transmission using light pulses travelling along with a long fiber which is usually made of plastic or glass.
The fibers are designed such that they facilitate the propagation of light along with the optical fiber depending on the requirement of power and distance of transmission.
Single-mode fiber is used for long-distance transmission, while multimode fiber is used for shorter distances.
The types of optical fibers depend on the refractive index, materials used, and mode of propagation of light.
Graded Index Fibers: The refractive index of the optical fiber decreases as the radial distance from the fiber axis increases.

Optical Fiber
Extrinsic fiber optic sensors use an optical fiber cable, normally a multi-mode one, to transmit modulated light from either a non-fiber optical sensor-or an electronic sensor connected to an optical transmitter.
Rare-earth-doped optical fibers can be used to provide signal amplification by splicing a short section of doped fiber into a regular optical fiber line.
There is a maximum angle from the fiber axis at which light may enter the fiber so that it will propagate, or travel, in the core of the fiber.
Because of these properties silica fibers are the material of choice in many optical applications, such as communications, fiber lasers, fiber amplifiers, and fiber-optic sensors.
HMFGs were initially slated for optical fiber applications, because the intrinsic losses of a mid-IR fiber could in principle be lower than those of silica fibers, which are transparent only up to about 2 μm. However, such low losses were never realized in practice, and the fragility and high cost of fluoride fibers made them less than ideal as primary candidates.
External optical fiber cable jackets and buffer tubes protect glass optical fiber from environmental conditions that can affect the fiber’s performance and long-term durability.
Bendable fiber may also be resistant to fiber hacking, in which the signal in a fiber is surreptitiously monitored by bending the fiber and detecting the leakage.
ScienceDirect Topics
There is another class of fibers that use a two-dimensional transverse periodicity [51., 52]. These fibers are called photonic crystal fibers or holey fibers.
The fiber is then called a graded-index fiber, whereas the fiber shown in Figure 1.
The framework slot contains loose optical fiber tube, primary coating optical fiber bundles, tightly fitted optical fiber, or ribbon fiber.
During the construction of lines, especially the tensioning works, excessive span and height difference would cause increased pressure to be applied by the OPGW on the pulley, resulting in an increase in the lateral pressure of the optical fiber unit and optical fiber transmission loss, or even reduction of the service life of the optical fiber.
The performance of an optical fiber system depends, to a large extent, on the characteristics of optical fibers.
In addition to fibers designed for optical transmission, there are also various specialty fibers for optical signal processing, such as dispersion compensating fibers, polarization maintaining fibers, photonic crystal fibers, and rare-earth doped active fibers for optical amplification.
Optical attenuation in an optical fiber is one of the most important issues affecting all applications that use optical fibers.
US Fiber Production Is One Bright Spot In Sobering Supply Chain Report
The report’s one bright spot is domestic manufacturing of optical transmission equipment, including fiber and optic cables.
The Fiber Broadband Association estimates that 43 percent of Americans have access to fiber infrastructure today.
Manufacture of fiber optic cable is a technical process involving the production of glass preform, chemical treatment, drawing the glass into ultra-thin strands, and coating the glass with protective materials.
IBIS Worlds estimates that annual US fiber optic manufacture will be roughly $2 billion in 2022, a 7 percent rate of market share growth and a welcome turn after some years of decline.
Despite laudable policy efforts to stimulate the demand for US made fiber and the growth of 5G, the report expressed concerns that China’s industrial policy could derail the important fiber optic sector.
With a combination of trade distortions, subsidies, and state ownership, China has grown its fiber capabilities to some 12 percent of the world’s raw fiber imports and more than 3 percent of global optical fiber imports in less than a generation.
The US fiber manufacturing base is slowly growing, but the report provides a warning: “China’s excess capacity remains a global problem that will likely require coordinated actions to address.”

An attenuator section can also provide isolation between a source and a troublesome load. Constant impedance attenuator is matched to source impedance ZI and load impedance ZO. For radio frequency equipment Z is 50 .
A 10 dB attenuator followed by a 6 dB attenuator provides 16dB of attenuation overall.
The Z-(arrows) pointing toward the attenuator indicates that the impedance seen looking into the attenuator with a load Z on the opposite end is Z, Z=50 for our case.
The table in the figure below lists resistor values for the bridged T attenuators to match a 50 source and load. The bridged-T attenuator is not often used.
Attenuator sections can be cascaded as in the figure below for more attenuation than may be available from a single section.
The individual sections of the switched attenuators in the previous section are mounted in shielded sections.
The connectors allow individual attenuators to be cascaded, in addition to connecting between a source and load. For example, a 10 dB attenuator may be placed between a troublesome signal source and an expensive spectrum analyzer input.
Attenuator
A line-level attenuator in the preamp or a power attenuator after the power amplifier uses electrical resistance to reduce the amplitude of the signal that reaches the speaker, reducing the volume of the output.
A line-level attenuator has lower power handling, such as a 1/2-watt potentiometer or voltage divider and controls preamp level signals, whereas a power attenuator has higher power handling capability, such as 10 watts or more, and is used between the power amplifier and the speaker.
The pad is designed for a particular load impedance, ZLoad, and a particular source impedance, Zs. The impedance seen looking into the input port will be ZS if the output port is terminated by ZLoad. The impedance seen looking into the output port will be ZLoad if the input port is terminated by ZS… [edit].
The L-pad component value calculation assumes that the design impedance for port 1 is equal or higher than the design impedance for port 2.
Input port will mean the input port of the two-port.
ZLoad = the input impedance of the load. Zin = the impedance seen looking into the input port when ZLoad is connected to the output port.
Zout = the impedance seen looking into the output port when Zs is connected to the input port.
New & Used Guitar Amp Attenuators
There are few things more sought-after in the guitar world than the sound of an overdriven tube amp.
If you’re looking to get the most out of your tube amp without annoying the neighbors or blowing away the crowd at a club show, you might want to consider adding a guitar attenuator.
A guitar amp attenuator is a device that gets your tube-driven guitar amp to the edge of breakup at lower volumes.
To use a power attenuator on your amp, simply connect your speaker to the attenuator via a speaker cable, then your tube amp attenuator to the output your tube amp head via another speaker cable.
To use an attenuator for a combo amp, simply connect the speaker to the attenuator, then the attenuator to the output of the power amp.
In a word, yes! Attenuators really will get you that natural breakup sound with your valve power amp at lower volumes.
Of course, all guitar amp attenuators are different, so look into some different brands to find the one that’s best for you.

The Smart Cushion® crash attenuator is a revolutionary, speed-dependent product that varies stopping resistance during an impact.
The Smart Cushion® crash attenuator allows lighter and slower-moving vehicles to have longer ridedown distances and lower ridedown g-forces.
Unlike fixed-resistance attenuators, the Smart Cushion® attenuator does not reach maximum stopping resistance unless a vehicle is traveling at the maximum design speed.
The Smart Cushion® is the only attenuator with a reverse-tapered design to eliminate side panel stress during a collapse.
The hydraulic porting of the attenuator ensures that the proper resistance is used to stop the vehicle before it reaches the end of the cushion’s usable length.
The crash attenuator requires a minimal inventory of spare parts because of the new side panels’ durability and the normal requirement of only two shear bolts on the frontal impact reset.
Smart Cushion® attenuators come fully assembled for a pick-and-set install.

The Canadian Encyclopedia
The current SkyTrain network consists of the original Expo Line, the Millennium Line and the Canada Line.
It ran 21.4 km through Vancouver, Burnaby and New Westminster, mostly on the old Central Park interurban line and downtown through the Dunsmuir Tunnel, an old rail tunnel built by the Canadian Pacific Railway in the 1930s.
Until October 2016, it shared the Expo Line track from Waterfront Station to Columbia Station in New Westminster and looped back on a separate track to VCC-Clark Station.
Although the Canada Line is also fully automated and driverless, it is a conventional heavy rail train and therefore not integrated with the other SkyTrain lines.
The Canada Line also differs from the other SkyTrain lines in that it is a public-private partnership – the largest in Canadian history.
Beginning with the Millennium Line, SkyTrain stations have incorporated crime prevention through environmental design principles.
TransLink has proposed a 16.5 km extension of the Expo Line from King George Station in Surrey to Langley’s city centre.

With the entry of British Columbia into the Dominion of Canada in 1871, as the sixth province, New Westminster’s economic prospects improved, but the Royal City would lose out again, this time to the new railway terminus town of Vancouver, when the Canadian Pacific Railway was extended to the shores of Burrard Inlet, even though a spur of the railway did reach New Westminster in 1886.
Until the 1964 completion of the Highway 1 freeway, which bypassed New Westminster to its north, Columbia Street, the downtown core of New Westminster close to the city’s waterfront, was the main commercial retail and service centre for the Fraser Valley and nearby areas of Burnaby and Coquitlam.
When Queen Victoria designated New Westminster instead as her new capital’s name, the name Queensborough became applied to New Westminster’s portion of Lulu Island, across the north arm of the Fraser from the southern end of the city.
CKNW, one of Canada’s first private news radio, hot-line and talk stations, began broadcasting from studios in New Westminster on April 1, 1944, originally in the Royal Windsor Hotel, then at a few other locations in the city, before moving to downtown Vancouver from its final New Westminster location at 8th and McBride, which it occupied from 1967 onwards.
Although it has broadcast from Vancouver for the better part of half a century, it is still licensed to New Westminster and its callsign still includes the letters “NW” for New Westminster.
Today New Westminster is served by the New Westminster Record, part of the Glacier Media chain, which publishes once a week.
The city has several live performance venues, ranging from the Massey Theatre adjacent to New Westminster High School, to the Burr Theatre, a converted cinema on Columbia Street, and two theatrical venues in Queens Park The Royal City Musical Theatre, a long-established New Westminster tradition, uses the Massey, while comedy and mystery theatricals use the stages in Queens Park.

TransLink SkyTrain Sapperton Station
Sapperton is the only elevated station in the system where passengers have to go up from the platforms to reach the concourse and exit/entrance, a concept found more commonly in underground stations.
Sapperton Station opened as part of the initial stage of the Millennium Line when it ran from Waterfront to Braid.
During the planning and construction phase, the station was criticized as being a station to “Nowhere” by then-New Westminster Mayor Helen Sparkes.
New Westminster wanted Sapperton Station to be built to provide access to Royal Columbian Hospital, but when the station design was finalized, access to the hospital was and continues to be poor, as the station entrance opens up to the rear of the hospital at the bottom of a hill.
Further, the province decided not to install a stairwell at the south end of the station to access the $9-million riverfront park that was being developed adjacent to Sapperton Station, although the stairwell was later installed as an emergency exit.
In a letter to The Vancouver Sun by System Architect Alan Hart of Rapid Transit Project 2000, the organization responsible for planning and construction for the Millennium Line, Hart believed that the claim by Mayor Sparkes is unfair that Sapperton is a “Useless” station.
The lack of access to the waterfront park from Sapperton was because Braid Station provided better access because access from Sapperton would require park visitors to be dumped “Seven storeys down in the middle of rail tracks.”
Sapperton Green To Transform Area Around Braid SkyTrain
Sapperton Green will transform the area around Braid SkyTrain station in New Westminster into a transit-oriented, master-planned community with a mix of housing types.
QuadReal Property Group appeared before New Westminster city council to discuss their latest concept for Sapperton Green, designed by MCMP Architects.
4.2 million square feet of condominium and rental housing adjacent to Braid SkyTrain station.
The affordable rental housing component of Sapperton Green will be built in three phases: 85,000 sq ft.
QuadReal says Sapperton Green will consist of approximately 19 per cent parks and open space, exceeding the City of New Westminster’s requirements by four per cent.
In March 2019, New Westminster Schools announced it had purchased a.438-acre site at 522 Fader Street in Sapperton for $1.75 million.
The school district plans to use the site for a future middle school, stating “The purchase aligns with future development plans which affect school capacity and the number of schools needed. These include the Sapperton Green rezoning application for a mixed-use, sustainable, and transit-oriented master-planned community at 97 Braid Street.”

“A startup is not a place where people work out of beanbags, a startup is not a place where everyone dresses the same, a startup is not a place where people use buzzwords like ‘blockchain’ or ‘AI’ without really knowing what they mean. Or at least, most startups are not like that – but you’ve gotta have a few to build up that reputation.”
In figuring out the definition of a startup, there’s a lot of talk about what a startup isn’t.
“A startup is not fully formed or complete but still vigorously pursues greatness through a lean and adaptive endeavor. Startups are heavily defined by their actions and execution, not just their ideas.”
Another popular definition of startup comes from Steve Blank, who says a startup is “An organization formed to search for a repeatable and scalable business model.”
“The hours you put in do not define a startup. Whether or not you are making revenue does not define if you are a startup. In fact, a founder may feel they have a startup and their customers may beg to differ.”

Touring The Musical Metaverse: Virtual Concerts Are Here To Stay
Virtual artists’ human counterparts are only just beginning to understand the untapped potential of virtual concerts.
In our glossary, we define a virtual concert as a performance in which a virtual avatar’s likeness is projected onto a virtual stage within virtual reality, synced to pre-recorded music.
Researchers studying virtual concerts have found “Virtual concerts facilitated more social connection” and the coronavirus pandemic actually helped foster feelings of emotional support and empathy between virtual concert participants.
On the website for her virtual concert, Kizuna AI wrote, “Online concerts have become a norm in the world we live in now, and because we live in a time like this, I want to deliver a new kind of live performance where the real world and virtual world can blend together!” To accomplish this, Kizuna’s team used a clever blend of VR and AR technologies on a physical stage to create a unique virtual concert that featured both humans and VTubers.
As a virtual being, she bridged the gap between the real and virtual worlds by including both human and virtual guests such as Virtual Kaf and the music producer TeddyLoid.
Some human guests were transformed into VTubers, while others remained in their standard form as they danced next to the virtual Kizuna AI. In the end, the coronavirus has changed the way many of us experience live music by expanding our horizons to new virtual concerts we otherwise may never have imagined.
“Miku is always coming to the real world to perform for us, now it’s our turn to get into the virtual world to see her 💙”. This YouTube commenter summarizes the appeal of virtual concerts well: Fans can truly step into the world of their favorite virtual artist or see a human artist reimagined in new dimensions.

Virtual Concert
A virtual concert, or also called V-concert or virtual live, refers to a performance in which the virtual avatars of performers are projected onto a stage in the form of three-dimensional images.
More recently, virtual concerts have often taken place in video games and virtual worlds.
Under the slogan “K-Pop Hologram: YG at Everland”, virtual performances include Psy’s “Gentleman” and “Gangnam Style” as well as virtual concerts by Big Bang and 2NE1.
The first virtual concert in Germany was launched on smartphone on August 5, 2013, based on a May 9, 2009 performance at the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe.
Since the mid-2000s, virtual concerts have also been held in virtual worlds instead of physical locations.
Fortnite would continue to host virtual concerts on a smaller and more social-oriented side map called “Party Royale.” On April 16, 2020, American singer-songwriter Soccer Mommy collaborated with a Club Penguin private server to host an in-game concert for her album Color Theory.
Many virtual performances have begun experimenting with virtual and augmented reality.

Non-Fungible Token Definition: Understanding NFTs
Much of the current market for NFTs is centered around collectibles, such as digital artwork, sports cards, and rarities.
NFTs shift the crypto paradigm by making each token unique and irreplaceable, thereby making it impossible for one non-fungible token to be equal to another.
They are also extensible, meaning you can combine one NFT with another to “Breed” a third, unique NFT. Just like Bitcoin, NFTs also contain ownership details for easy identification and transfer between token holders.
The ERC-1155 standard takes the concept further by reducing the transaction and storage costs required for NFTs and batching multiple types of non-fungible tokens into a single contract.
NFTs representing digital or physical artwork on a blockchain removes the need for agents and allows artists to connect directly with their audiences.
You can then purchase NFTs via any of the online NFT marketplaces, including OpenSea, Rarible, and SuperRare.
One security risk for NFTs is that you could lose access to your non-fungible token if the platform hosting the NFT goes out of business.
Here’s how an internet of NFTs compared to the internet most of us use today looks….A comparisonNFT examplesThe NFT world is relatively new.
Ethereum.org examplesWe use NFTs to give back to our contributors and we’ve even got our own NFT domain name.
NFTs are minted through smart contracts that assign ownership and manage the transferability of the NFT’s. When someone creates or mints an NFT, they execute code stored in smart contracts that conform to different standards, such as ERC-721.
What are NFTs used for? Here’s more information of some of the better developed use-cases and visions for NFTs on Ethereum.
As NFTs are essentially deeds, one day you could buy a car or home using ETH and receive the deed as an NFT in return.
Fractionalised NFTs can be traded on DEXs like Uniswap, not just NFT marketplaces.
If your NFT was created in block #600 and a hacker were to try and steal your NFT by modifying its data, the digital fingerprint of all subsequent blocks would change.
Non-Fungible Token
Because each token is uniquely identifiable, NFTs differ from blockchain cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin.
NFTs function like cryptographic tokens unlike cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin or Ethereum, NFTs are not mutually interchangeable, hence not fungible.
Ownership of an NFT does not inherently grant copyright or intellectual property rights to the digital asset a token represents.
The 2017 online game CryptoKitties was monetized by selling tradable cat NFTs, and its success brought some public attention to NFTs. The NFT market experienced rapid growth during 2020, with its value tripling to $250 million.
Digital art is a common use case for NFTs. High-profile auctions of NFTs linked to digital art have received considerable public attention, with the work “Merge” by artist Pak being the most expensive NFT with a price of $91.8 million and Everydays: the First 5000 Days, by artist Mike Winkelmann, the second most expensive auction at US$69.
No centralized means of authentication exists to prevent stolen and counterfeit digital works from being sold as NFTs, although auction houses like Sotheby’s, Christie’s and various museums and galleries worldwide started collaborations and partnerships with digital artists such as Refik Anadol, Dangiuz and Sarah Zucker, selling NFTs associated with digital artworks and showcasing those artworks both in virtual galleries and real life screens, monitors and TVs. NFTs can be used to represent in-game assets, such as digital plots of land, which some commentators describe as being controlled “By the user” instead of the game developer by allowing assets to be traded on third-party marketplaces without permission from the game developer.
In March 2021 Adam Benzine’s 2015 documentary Claude Lanzmann: Spectres of the Shoah became the first motion picture and documentary film to be auctioned as an NFT. Other projects in the film industry using NFTs include the announcement that an exclusive NFT artwork collection will be released for Godzilla vs. Kong and director Kevin Smith announcing in April 2021 that his forthcoming horror movie Killroy Was Here would be released as an NFT. The 2021 film Zero Contact, directed by Rick Dugdale and starring Anthony Hopkins, was also released as an NFT. In April 2021, an NFT associated with the score of the movie Triumph, composed by Gregg Leonard, was minted as the first NFT for a feature film score.
What Is NFT? Non-Fungible Tokens Explained
Non-fungible tokens, or NFTs, are the latest cryptocurrency phenomenon to go mainstream.
After Christie’s auction house sold the first-ever NFT artwork – a collage of images by digital artist Beeple for a whopping $69.3 million – NFTs have suddenly captured the world’s attention.
So what are NFTs? In the simplest terms, NFTs transform digital works of art and other collectibles into one-of-a-kind, verifiable assets that are easy to trade on the blockchain.
Although that may be far from simple for the uninitiated to understand, the payoff has been huge for many artists, musicians, influencers and the like, with investors spending top dollar to own NFT versions of digital images.
CryptoKitties, a digital trading game on the cryptocurrency platform Ethereum, was one of the original NFTs, allowing people to purchase and sell virtual cats that were both unique and stored on the blockchain.
“Others are intrigued by the idea of taking a digital asset that anyone can copy and claiming ownership of it. The recent headline price records for NFTs seem to have been largely driven by newly minted crypto millionaires and billionaires looking to diversify their bitcoin holdings and more interest to the crypto ecosystem.”
What are NFTs? Non-fungible tokens, or NFTs, are pieces of digital content linked to the blockchain, the digital database underpinning cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin and ethereum.
Non-Fungible Token Definition & Meaning
A unique digital identifier that cannot be copied, substituted, or subdivided, that is recorded in a blockchain, and that is used to certify authenticity and ownership Non-fungible tokens.
Are electronic identifiers confirming a digital collectible is real by recording the details on a database known as a blockchain.
Are used to verify unique items such as digital art and digital ownership of other items.

With the owner gaining the rights to exhibit, distribute and stream the movie.
What Is A Non-Fungible Token? Beginner’S Guide To NFTs
If you want to know what NFTs are, we will explain everything you need to know about them in this guide.
ERC-721 is the ‘non-fungible token standard’ that implements an API protocol for NFTs to follow.
Authenticity is guaranteed through blockchain technology, which increases the value of NFTs and makes them more desirable as a market.
NFTs are not used as much as fungible crypto assets.
The technology behind NFTs could be complex to understand, but factors such as the cult behind NFTs, and scarcity are what make them so popular.
Could NFTs tokenize the real world? The real-world uses of non-fungible tokens are starting to become more common, and more diverse.
Music files – They can also be associated with NFTs. Artists can mint their songs into NFTs with platforms like Rarible and Mintbase.
What Is A Non-Fungible Token, How To Use, 4 Famous Examples
The difference is that on the other end of an NFT digital link, the special properties of that NFT are stored, secured, and can be readily verified.
While there are more traditional currency based registration and purchasing tools available for NFTs, in today’s digital world, the best example is NFTs bought and sold with cryptocurrency.
In order to use NFTs, you need two things connected together: first, a digital wallet, and, second, an online marketplace.
The digital wallet is a secured online digital warehouse used to store, receive, and send NFTs. Most often, NFTs are bought and traded with either Ethereum or Bitcoin.
The second thing needed is a place to trade the NFTs. The marketplace in which the NFT is located determines what form of payment is required.
You will need cryptocurrency to trade NFTs. After purchasing cryptocurrency, it is added to the digital wallet enabling NFT trading.
Each marketplace is a little different on how to purchase and sell NFTs. However, virtually all of the marketplaces make the process relatively easy to follow.

Executive Search
Executive search is a specialized recruitment service which organizations pay to seek out and recruit highly qualified candidates for senior-level and executive jobs across the public and private sectors, as well as non-profit organizations.
In some markets, there has been a move towards using executive search for lower positions, driven by the fact that there are fewer candidates for some positions, even on lower levels than executive.
Executive search agents/professionals typically have a wide range of personal contacts in their industry or field of specialty; detailed, specific knowledge of the area; and typically operate at the most senior level of executive positions.
In 1959 the Association of Executive Search and Leadership Consultants emerged to set the standards of quality and ethics for the executive search consulting trade.
High-end executive search firms get a retainer to perform a specific search for a corporate officer or other senior executive position.
Similar to retained search firms, delimited/engaged search firms require an up-front fee before engaging the search.
While delimited search is not as desirable for searches that are open-ended in nature, the “Ticking clock” is often seen by clients as an incentive that motivates delimited search recruiters to stay more active and involved throughout the hiring process.

Minister Of Innovation, Science And Industry Reaffirms That Competitiveness Is Central To A Vibrant Telecommunications Sector
“Access to affordable and reliable Internet and wireless services is critical in today’s society and economy. That’s why our government is making every effort to ensure that telecommunications services are reliable, innovative, competitive and-most crucially-affordable.”
“These programs, along with other actions like issuing binding policy direction to the CRTC to put consumers first, have laid the important groundwork needed to address affordability and competition in the sector. But there is more to do as affordability and cost pressures remain top of mind for Canadians, especially in the telecommunications sector.”
“Within this context, many Canadians have expressed serious concerns regarding consolidation in the telecommunications sector, specifically regarding the proposed acquisition of Shaw Communications Inc. by Rogers Communications Inc. As I have noted before, I share these concerns.”
“This proposal is currently under review by three separate regulators, with decisions expected in due course. As Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry and the spectrum regulator, I am strongly committed to our policies to promote competition and ensure cell phone affordability for Canadians. The wholesale transfer of Shaw’s wireless licences to Rogers is fundamentally incompatible with our government’s policies for spectrum and mobile service competition, and I will simply not permit it.”
“I will continue to use all the tools at my disposal to fight for more choices for consumers and to make life more affordable for Canadians. This includes the upcoming 5G spectrum auction, where new measures have been proposed to support alternative providers and to encourage competition.”
“Competition is a driving force behind innovation and efficiency in our economy. Last month, I announced that a review of the Competition Act is under way, where issues such as wage fixing, misleading pricing schemes and penalty levels, among others, will be studied with the objective of promoting competition throughout the economy.”
“Our government will continue to make real and positive impacts on the day-to-day lives of Canadians. This has been a central commitment of our government since day one and it is my commitment as Minister. I will continue to fight each and every day to make life more affordable for all Canadians.”

Canadian Government Announces $240 Million Investment In Semiconductor And Photonics Industries
Canada’s semiconductor industry received a boost this week as the Honourable François‑Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, announced the Semiconductor Challenge Callout, which provides C$150 million through the Strategic Innovation Fund to build Canada’s strengths in the design and manufacture of semiconductors.
The Semiconductor Challenge Callout looks for ambitious, large-scale ideas from industry and other ecosystem players that address how Canada can build on existing R&D and manufacturing strength, contribute to a national network and supply chain and position Canada as a critical global supplier of specialized semiconductors manufacturing.
Champagne also announced a further C$90 million investment in the National Research Council of Canada’s Canadian Photonics Fabrication Centre, which will finance equipment upgrades to increase the centre’s capacity and ability to address the ever-increasing complexity of the technology being brought to market by its clients.
“Because over the last two decades, this center has established itself as a world-class one-stop-shop. People come here, they do research, they do production, proof of concept. And this makes us unique around the world. This investment will help position Canada as a critical global supplier of niche semiconductor technologies. And that’s where I think we can make a difference as Canada.”
The centre is a public asset that allows companies to work on projects, receive support bringing the product to market, and sometimes also receive support once in the market, noted Iain Stewart, president, National Research Council of Canada, in thanking the government for the funding.
Hamid Arabzadeh, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Canadian photonics firm Ranovus, which has had a long-time partnership with the NRC, added his thanks and that of the Canadian innovators in the semiconductor and the compound semiconductor industry.
“My hope is that the Canadian talent will create new Canadian-owned companies and get Canada back to the podium. To that effect, we’re announcing a $45 million investment in the next generation of optical communication technologies to address the emerging AI and machine learning workloads. We recognize that an ecosystem is more than one company and look forward to continuing our work with other Canadian companies to strengthen the critical mass of intellectual property in Canada.”

Business-To-Business Definition & Example
Business-to-business refers to business that is conducted between companies, rather than between a company and individual consumer.
Business-to-business transactions are common in a typical supply chain, as companies purchase components and products such as other raw materials for use in the manufacturing processes.
The internet provides a robust environment in which businesses can find out about products and services and lay the groundwork for future business-to-business transactions.
Specialized online directories providing information about particular industries, companies and the products and services they provide also facilitate B2B transactions.
Business-to-business transactions require planning to be successful.
Such transactions rely on a company’s account management personnel to establish business client relationships.
Business-to-business relationships must also be nurtured, typically through professional interactions prior to sales, for successful transactions to take place.
As a general consensus, the phrase is used to define the business model of companies that work with other companies.
B2B companies don’t have to exclusively sell products or services to other companies.
In addition to its B2C and B2C hardware and software sales, the company deals with several manufacturing suppliers for iPhone components.
A successful B2B marketing strategy should follow the essential steps required in marketing planning: defining your audience, building an image of authority, creating a strong content strategy, and diversifying your channels.
LinkedIn is particularly useful for companies performing in the business-to-business area.
On a more specific level, specialized online directories can become a way to raise awareness about your products and get in touch with interested companies.
In addition to traditional marketing approaches, business-to-business companies need to pay special attention to building relationships prior to sales.
Definition, Types, & Examples
While there are many types of businesses, the majority of the businesses out there depend on B2B suppliers and companies in order to function.
With B2B being a large and complex model, it can be classified into popular and mainstream types -.
Product-based B2B companies can have a physical or online presence or both and it also helps to mention that the products are generally physical, hence requires a much higher initial investment and overhead costs compared to other B2B types.
A few examples of Service-based B2B businesses would be -.
While these are few major and distinguishable types of B2B models, there are a lot of other types which are the hybrid mixes of the above few.
With the advantages and disadvantages of B2B businesses out of the way, let’s look at a few examples of B2B companies to get a better understanding.
All the B2B companies that we listed above are all addressing pain points other businesses have and they have created a B2B business solution to help solve those pain points.
Business-To-Business Definition
Business-to-business – “B2B” – refers to commerce between two businesses rather than to commerce between a business and an individual consumer.
The dollar value of business-to-business transactions is significantly higher than business-to-consumer activity because businesses are more likely to purchase higher priced goods and services and purchase more of them than consumers are.
Selling to a business is different from selling to an individual consumer.
Selling sometimes requires participating in a bidding process by responding to a purchaser’s request for proposals.
A company selling to businesses can also sell directly to consumers.
While business-to-business transactions often involve high prices and volume, they can also happen on a much smaller scale when a small business sells products or services to another small business.
The hallmark of business-to-business commerce then, is the participants – two businesses rather than a business and a consumer.
You can even hire a B2B business to provide CFO or CTO services for your business.
While these 3 examples are just a few of the more popular B2B services businesses, they give you a good feel for how a B2B services company works: they identify a need that many businesses can’t afford to cover in-house and find a way to meet that need at a much lower cost.
The SaaS business model tends to work even better for B2B businesses.
Almost any B2B activity is a candidate for a B2B SaaS companies: project management, marketing automation, inventory management, financial trackingthe list goes on and on.
With the advent of B2B ecommerce, businesses can now easily identify and access raw materials, components and other products from all over the world through B2B supply and procurement exchanges called “e-procurement sites”.
While B2B commerce is nothing new, B2B ecommerce makes it much easier for businesses to find the right supplier or manufacturer for their needs instead of relying on whatever contacts or network they might have already had. Conclusion.
Still have questions about B2B? Have any additional insights into how the internet has changed B2B? Leave your thoughts in the comments!
“B2B” means “Business to business.” The term encompasses all companies that create products and services geared toward other businesses.
If you own a small business, you likely will have to work with a B2B company at some point in your journey.
Every B2C company requires certain products, services and professional counsel, so every B2C company generates B2B activity.
Perhaps you’ve worked at a company where the paychecks were stamped by ADP, a company that provides payroll and financial services for businesses.
Unlike with B2C companies, the target audience isn’t a consumer at all, but another company.
Rather than speaking to a consumer’s desire to get something new, fun or convenient, B2B companies face the challenge of convincing company decision-makers that their products or services will yield a return on investment.
Web development companies are B2B services that handle the creation and maintenance of company websites, plus digital advertising services like content creation and search engine optimization.
Business To Business Marketing – Marketing Schools
The AMR International B2B Online Marketing Assessment and Forecast to 2013 predicts that B2B spend on social media will grow 21% through 2013, and spend on lead generation sites will grow 17%.How is a B2B marketing plan developed and employed?
Professionals in the marketing field should have strong communications skills, but in B2B positions, marketing managers also need a background in economics and business.
A B2B Marketing Coordinator organizes and implements the day-to-day tasks of building and marketing a B2B brand.
Most marketing coordinators need a bachelor’s degree in marketing, event planning or a related field, but generally need less experience than other positions in the B2B marketing field.
A degree in marketing can lead you to a career in a variety of positions and fields, including B2B. Knowledgeable marketing experts are the key to developing a B2B strategy that fulfills the ultimate goal of getting the product or service sold to the right people.
Because B2B marketing is so closely integrated with the principles of business, it may be advisable to also earn a minor in business, or at least take some business courses as part of your marketing education.

Bolt Is Key To BigCommerce’S Plan To Lure Merchants Away From Shopify
E-commerce platform BigCommerce and fintech startup Bolt are looking to expand their partnership aimed at speeding up the checkout process for BigCommerce’s tens of thousands of merchants.
Companies like Bolt are looking to disrupt the checkout space, and it’s teaming up with Shopify competitors like BigCommerce to do so.
Shopify is increasingly making its Shop Pay product available to more sellers, even those who don’t use Shopify to run their online stores.
BigCommerce differentiates itself from competing e-commerce platforms like Shopify through its OpenSaaS platform, which allows merchants to combine solutions from different tech providers.
One common complaint from tech startups and merchants is that Shopify doesn’t allow merchants to use alternative checkout systems like Bolt.
Bolt has started taking matters into its own hands by offering incentives to entice Shopify merchants to switch to different platforms that would better integrate with Bolt, like BigCommerce, Woo Commerce, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, or Adobe’s Magento.
In it, he said that early in 2020, Shopify had moved to put limitations on the merchants that Bolt could work with after the checkout startup had grown with Shopify for years.
