Mini Countryman

The Mini Countryman, also called Mini Crossover in Japan, is a subcompact luxury crossover SUV, the first vehicle of this type to be launched by BMW under the Mini marque.

The 2010 Mini Beachcomber Concept was based on the Crossover Concept and the Mini Countryman, with no doors and no conventional roof.

Similar to the Countryman S, JCW Countryman can be mated to either a 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmission.

In summer 2019, Mini launched an updated version of the Countryman JCW, known unofficially as the Countryman JCW 306.

In July 2010, Mini announced plans to enter the World Rally Championship with the Countryman beginning in 2011, and entering season-long tournament starting from 2012.

The first generation Countryman was primarily built in Graz, Austria, under contract by Magna Steyr, making it the first of the BMW era Minis to be manufactured entirely outside the UK. In 2013, assembly of the Countryman was expanded to three international locations: from April 2013 at BMW’s plant near Chennai, India, specifically for the Indian market from June 2013 at the BMW Group Malaysia Assembly Plant in Kulim, Kedah, and at the BMW Manufacturing Thailand plant in Rayong from August 2013.

In 2012, worldwide sales of Countryman reached 102,000 units, 21,012 of which were sold in the US. In March 2013, the 250,000th Countryman was produced at Magna Steyr’s Graz plant.

Post Idea #2: Plug-in hybrid

Related Articles – Summarized

With four doors, ample cargo space, and room for five, the 2022 Ioniq is Hyundai’s answer to the Toyota Prius.

Like its liftback rival, the Ioniq is available as a standard gas-electric hybrid or a plug-in hybrid, which adds a rechargeable battery pack for extended electric-only operation.

True to Hyundai’s ethos, the Ioniq offers plenty of features at a lower cost than its competitors.

As a hybrid commuter, the Ioniq is a compelling pick.

The Ioniq’s thoughtful, comfortable cabin doesn’t extend to the seats, which are fine for short trips but grow stiff and shapeless on longer drives.

It’s also available in standard and plug-in versions, but unlike the Ioniq, it offers optional all-wheel drive.

Some buyers will prefer the Ioniq’s conventional design to the Prius’ more flamboyant and futuristic lines.

Plug-In Hybrids

Plug-in hybrids, sometimes called Plug-in Hybrid-Electric Vehicles, are hybrids with high-capacity batteries that can be charged by plugging them into an electrical outlet or charging station.

Series plug-in hybrids, also called Extended Range Electric Vehicles.

Some plug-in hybrids have higher-capacity batteries and can go further on electricity than others.

Plug-in hybrids use roughly 30% to 60% less petroleum than conventional vehicles.

Since electricity is produced mostly from domestic resources, plug-in hybrids reduce oil dependence.

Plug-in hybrids typically emit less greenhouse gas than conventional vehicles.

Since a plug-in can operate on electricity alone, gasoline alone, or a mixture of the two, EPA provides a fuel economy estimate for gasoline-only operation and an estimate for electric-only or gas-and-electric operation-both for combined city-highway driving.

With some of the best plug-in hybrid cars now claiming over 50 miles of electric range, is a PHEV the best hybrid type for your needs?

Hybrids – Sometimes called ‘full hybrids’ or abbreviated to ‘HEV’, for ‘hybrid electric vehicle’.

Mild hybrids – Sometimes abbreviated to ‘MHEV’, for ‘mild hybrid electric vehicle’.

Just like all other types of hybrid, plug-in hybrids combine an internal-combustion engine with an electric motor and battery.

Plug-in hybrids generally have a battery connected to an electric motor, with the battery being larger than what you get in a ‘full hybrid, but smaller than what you get in a purely electric car.

Plug-in hybrids address one of the big concerns buyers have about electric vehicles, which is battery range.

Because plug-in hybrids effectively have two different powertrains, they weigh more than conventional cars.

Hybrids Vs. Plug-In Hybrids: Pros And Cons

In addition to hybrids and plug-in hybrids, the universe of electrified vehicles includes full-electric vehicles that are powered solely by a large battery pack and have no gasoline engine.

Here are the similarities, differences, and pros and cons of hybrids and plug-in hybrids.

Conventional hybrids use their gasoline engines to keep their modestly sized batteries charged as you drive, with no need to plug them in, and virtually every major maker offers HEV cars, SUVs, and trucks.

Hybrids do not tend to get substantially improved mileage during steady highway cruising.

Plug-In Hybrids: More Range, More CostMore than a few manufacturers have taken the further step of adding larger batteries to their hybrids, which you recharge by plugging them into either a standard 120-volt household outlet or a 240-volt charging unit.

Hybrid Costs vs. Hybrid Benefits Finally, there is the financial side of hybrid ownership.

Does the inherently higher price of a hybrid or plug-in-hybrid vehicle make sense when compared with similar, conventional gas-engine vehicles? In these days of cheap gasoline, the math often doesn’t work out in favor of a hybrid.

Plug-In Hybrid

A plug-in hybrid electric vehicle is a hybrid electric vehicle whose battery pack can be recharged by plugging a charging cable into an external electric power source, in addition to internally by its on-board internal combustion engine-powered generator.

The Honda Accord Plug-in Hybrid was released in selected U.S. markets in January 2013, and the Mitsubishi Outlander P-HEV in Japan in January 2013, becoming the first SUV plug-in hybrid in the market.

The carmaker plans to introduce 10 new plug-in hybrid models by 2017, and its next release was the Mercedes-Benz C 350 e, Mercedes’ second plug-in hybrid after the S 500 Plug-In Hybrid.

PHEVs are based on the same three basic powertrain architectures of conventional hybrids; a series hybrid is propelled by electric motors only, a parallel hybrid is propelled both by its internal combustion engine and by electric motors operating concurrently, and a series-parallel hybrid operates in either mode.

One label is for series hybrid or extended range electric vehicle, with all-electric and gasoline-only modes; and a second label for blended mode or series-parallel hybrid, that includes a combination of both gasoline and plug-in electric operation; and gasoline only, like a conventional hybrid vehicle.

In the case of plug-in hybrid electric vehicle when operating in hybrid mode with assistance of the internal combustion engine, tailpipe and greenhouse emissions are lower in comparison to conventional cars because of their higher fuel economy.

The incentives consist of tax reductions and exemptions, as well as of bonus payments for buyers of all-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, hybrid vehicles, and some alternative fuel vehicles.

Post Idea #3: Xenon arc lamp

Related Articles – Summarized

Xenon Arc Lamp

A xenon arc lamp is a highly specialized type of gas discharge lamp, an electric light that produces light by passing electricity through ionized xenon gas at high pressure.

Xenon arc lamps can be roughly divided into three categories: continuous-output xenon short-arc lamps, continuous-output xenon long-arc lamps, and xenon flash lamps.

The lifetime of a xenon arc lamp varies according to its design and power consumption, with a major manufacturer quoting average lifetimes ranging from 500 hours to 1,500.

The xenon lamp promised tremendous advantages of a more stable arc with less flicker, and its non-consumable electrodes allowed longer films to be shown without interruptions.

Today, almost all movie projectors in theaters employ these lamps, with power ratings ranging from 900 watts up to 12 kW. Omnimax projection systems use single xenon lamps with ratings as high as 15 kW. As of 2016, laser illumination for digital theater projectors is starting to establish a market presence  and has been predicted to supersede the xenon arc lamp for this application.

Xenon short-arc lamps come in two distinct varieties: pure xenon, which contains only xenon gas; and xenon-mercury, which contains xenon gas and a small amount of mercury metal.

The plasma cloud in a xenon-mercury lamp is often smaller than that of a pure xenon lamp of equivalent size, due to the electron stream losing its energy more rapidly to the heavier mercury atoms.

Xenon Short Arc Lamp

The Xenon arc lamp is designed and developed to emit the high luminescence light in bright white color.

The xenon arc lamp has two major categories that differentiate with variation in the composition.

Generally, it is having three major types such as Xenon short arc lamp, Xenon long arc lamp, and Xenon flash lamp.

Xenon short arc lamp is immensely powerful sources of luminescence and used in several different industries.

The light which generated is shaped like two intersecting cones, starting from the electrodes at each end of the short arc lamp.

The xenon short arc lamps provide light in the bluish-white spectrum, here makes them ideal for precision-based optical applications, such as fiber optics and endoscopy technology.

The xenon lamp power supply is mandatory for long-life and continuous operation.

UXL Xenon Short Arc

The Ushio xenon short art lamps are specifically designed and approved for use in strong high performance followspots.

During manufacturing, the quartz tip-off position was moved to the cathode side of the lamp to allow easier installation and a more precise fit into the reflector.

The cable on the UXL-3000FS has been lengthened to allow ease of lamp positioning during installation.

Ushio’s UXL series are high pressure, short-arc xenon discharge lamps.

UXL spectral distribution is well balanced in the visible spectrum to resemble daylight.

The high gas fill pressure provides high luminance and high luminous efficacy.

Fast ignition and a stable arc are what Ushio has achieved with the UXL lamp design.

How They Work & History

How to build your own carbon arc lamp and more details about how it works.

The arc lamp is not used today, however it is extremely important due to its role in history.

The first work with arc lamps was in the laboratory until the 1870s.

Most of the work on arc lamps occurred in Europe during the pre-1870s period.

The carbon arc lamp is the root of more than 50% of all electric lamps today as you can see in the diagram below, however it took almost 70 years to get a reliable carbon arc lamp out of the developmental stage.

1844 – first major public demonstration of an arc lamp in Paris 1875 – Pavel Yablochkov – Yablochkov Candle, a form of arc lamp is developed, this lamp is reliable and uses two carbon sticks side by side, which solves the problem of figuring out how to keep the gap constant despite the burning away of carbon.

Tesla Supercharger

Supercharger stalls have a connector to supply electrical power at maximums of 72 kW, 150 kW or 250 kW. Tesla Model S was the first car to be able to use the network, followed by the Tesla Model X, Tesla Model 3, and Tesla Model Y. Some Tesla cars have free supercharging for life, some have 100-400 kWh per year, some have a single 100-400 kWh credit, and some have a monetary credit.

In late 2019, on a busy Thanksgiving weekend in San Luis Obispo, California, Tesla deployed a mobile Supercharger set-up on a flatbed trailer, offering additional charging capacity powered by a Tesla Megapack energy storage system.

Tesla Supercharger stations allow Tesla vehicles to be fast-charged and are often located near restaurants with restrooms and other commerce areas.

The number of Tesla Supercharger connectors is currently on an annual growth around 50%. Tesla Global Supercharger Count Quarter Stations Connectors annual.

As of June 2015, Hong Kong had the highest density of Tesla Superchargers in the world, with eight stations with a total of 54 Supercharger stalls, allowing most Model S owners to have a Supercharger within 20 minutes’ drive.

A “Tesla station” was a planned second version of the Supercharger that, as of 2013, would provide Tesla owners with extremely-fast battery pack swaps as well as fast-recharge for Tesla Model S and Model X vehicles.

The original plan in the June 2013 company announcement explicitly indicated that the company would eventually upgrade all existing Tesla Supercharger stations to become Tesla stations, which would offer the battery-pack swap for the Model S in addition to the fast recharge capability that each facility initially opened with.

Tesla Supercharger: Network, Features, Price, Fees, And More

The Tesla Supercharger exists as a combined network of proprietary charging stations developed and implemented by Tesla.

Opening the Tesla Supercharger network to other EV companies.

In July of 2021, Tesla CEO ELon Musk revealed that the company was planning to open its Supercharger network to other automakers later this year.

Factors such as available electricity on the grid, peak hours, and how much electricity you are transferring all play a part in the price of charging your EV on a Tesla Supercharger.

Elon Musk has recently shared that Tesla plans to open up its Supercharger network to other EV manufacturers later in 2021.

Most recently, Tesla deployed two Supercharger stations in Morocco, marking the automaker’s first entry into the African market.

What Is A Tesla Supercharger? Everything You Need To Know

A Tesla Supercharger is a kind of electric car charger, specifically designed for what’s known as “Rapid charging.” In simple terms that means they offer incredibly fast charging speeds, of a kind that should be able to recharge an electric car battery in under an hour.

Superchargers are exclusive to Tesla, and will only work with the Tesla Model S Model X, Model 3, Model Y and other upcoming Tesla cars like the $25k hatchback and Cybertruck.

Not only does Tesla keep a map of every single Supercharger location on its website, you can use both the Tesla app and the in-car navigation system to track down your nearest Supercharger locations.

Tier 1 is the cheapest and applies to speeds under 60KW, while Tier 2 is 60kW to 100kW. Tier 3 applies to 100kW-180kW speeds, while the more expensive Tier 4 is everything above 180kW. In the past Tesla has offered free Supercharging to certain customers, including those who bought cars before a certain date or who earned them through the company’s referral program.

Tesla Superchargers are built, maintained, and owned by Tesla itself, and right now only Tesla-made cars are able to use them.

While the pilot scheme is only available to cars with the standard CCS plug, the same one Tesla uses on its cars in Europe, Musk has claimed adapters would be available where needed -solve the problem of Tesla continuing to use its own proprietary charging port in the United States.

In short, these are more powerful versions of the Supercharger designed to be used with the Tesla Semi – an all-electric truck.

How Tesla Will Open Up Its Superchargers To Other EVs

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has, for years, talked about opening up his company’s vast Supercharger network to other electric vehicles.

That could be up to the other automakers to make; Musk has previously said that Tesla has held talks with other automakers about sharing costs in order to open up the Supercharger network, and in 2018, he said competitors would have to be “Able to accept our charge rate and our connector, at least have an adapter to our connector.” Tesla may still make its own, as Musk said he anticipates making them available at Supercharger stations as long as “People don’t sort of steal them or something.”

In some respect, that’s good for Tesla – hanging out at Superchargers while you charge is a great way to meet other potentially like-minded Tesla owners, which, in turn, helps grow the company’s legion of devotees.

Waiting in line only to then wait again while you charge is a drag, and things will only get more crowded if Tesla opens up the Supercharger network to other EVs.

The company could jack up prices if your EV charges at a slower rate than a Tesla because, as Musk said Monday, the “Biggest constraint at Superchargers is time.”

“I bet it leads to more Tesla buyers long term.” “The smart thing about this idea is that it gradually exposes motorists, especially those who are already interested in EVs, to the Tesla brand. I bet it leads to more Tesla buyers long term,” Moody wrote.

As much as an exclusive Supercharger network has been a selling point for Tesla, Musk maintained on Monday that he always hoped to open it up to other electric vehicles – and took a shot at another Silicon Valley giant in the process.

Oil Platform

In 1937, Pure Oil Company and its partner Superior Oil Company used a fixed platform to develop a field in 14 feet of water, one mile offshore of Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana.

In early 1947, Superior Oil erected a drilling/production platform in 20 ft of water some 18 miles[vague.

A typical oil production platform is self-sufficient in energy and water needs, housing electrical generation, water desalinators and all of the equipment necessary to process oil and gas such that it can be either delivered directly onshore by pipeline or to a floating platform or tanker loading facility, or both.

Offshore oil production involves environmental risks, most notably oil spills from oil tankers or pipelines transporting oil from the platform to onshore facilities, and from leaks and accidents on the platform.

In the Gulf of Mexico hurricanes are increasing because of the increasing number of oil platforms that heat surrounding air with methane, it is estimated that U.S. Gulf of Mexico, oil and gas facilities emit approximately 500000 tons of methane each year, corresponding to a loss of produced gas of 2.9 percent.

An offshore oil platform is a small community in itself with cafeteria, sleeping quarters, management and other support functions.

The world’s deepest oil platform is the floating Perdido, which is a spar platform in the Gulf of Mexico in a water depth of 2,450 metres.

In small satellite platforms with a short distance to the main platform normally no processing is done.

Platform operating pressure shall be sufficient to enable three-phase flow to production platform.

For a lower power hydraulic workover rig the workover rig is placed on the wellhead oil production platform, and the diesel engine for the power equipment and the driven variable displacement pump are installed on the other self-elevating auxiliary platforms.

The jack-up workover platform in China is mainly the modified drilling platform.

The jack-up workover platform is mainly applied on offshore platforms without satellite wells or small platform wells.

Some single wellheads are without platforms at sea, and the wellhead cannot support major workover equipment, so a specialized barge equipped with a workover rig is used, and you can take advantage of the inherent advantages of the workover barge.

Call Grows For Turning Oil Platforms Into Offshore Reefs – Daily News

While most of California’s 27 offshore oil platforms are expected to be shuttered by 2055, and several have already been closed for good, there’s a looming quandary of what to do with the massive structures themselves once they’re out of commission.

The Gulf of Mexico is the poster child for rigs-to-reefs, with more than 500 decommissioned oil platforms turned into full-time artificial reefs over the past 30 years.

A 2010 law signed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, AB 2503, provided a legislative path for turning platforms into full-time reefs, a process that typically involves tipping the structures on their sides or lopping off the top-most parts to relocate them on the sea floor.

There are 27 platforms in state and federal waters, 16 of which are not currently operating, including three that have been temporarily shut down because of last October’s oil leak in Huntington Beach.

At least eight of those platforms are not expected to reopen and have begun – or will soon begin – the decommissioning process, which includes plugging the wells and dealing with the structures themselves, according to John B. Smith, an offshore oil consultant who previously worked with the Washington, D.C., agency that oversees oil leases in federal waters.

Beside the age of the platforms, their lifespan is nearing the end because offshore oil production in California is declining.

Removing the 23 platforms in federal waters would run $1.6 billion, according to federal estimates – and Smith said the price could end up being twice that.

The consistent weekly rise in U.S. oil and gas drilling rigs takes a breather, with the latest Baker Hughes survey reporting the count remained unchanged at 650, following 37 total rigs added during the previous three weeks.

Rigs targeting U.S. crude oil fell by 3 to 519, while gas rigs gained 3 to 130, with one rig classified as unspecified; rigs targeting oil in the Permian Basin added 1 to 310.

The week’s flat showing stopped a streak of eighth straight weekly gains for the oil and gas rig count.

Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.comMarch 4 – U.S. energy firms this week cut the number oil rigs even as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine drove crude prices to their highest since 2008.U.S. oil rigs fell three to 519 in the week to March 4, their first weekly decline since January, while gas rigs rose three to 130, their highest since December 2019, energy services firm Baker Hughes Co said in its closely followed report on Friday.

The combined oil and gas rig count, an early indicator of future output, held at 650, up 247, or 61%, over this time last year, Baker Hughes said.

Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.comMost of the decline in oil rigs was in the Woodford shale in Oklahoma, which offset an increase in the largest U.S. oilfield in the Permian Basin, the data showed.

U.S. crude futures traded over $116 per barrel this week, their highest since September 2008, soaring over 25% since Russia’s Feb. 24 invasion stoked global energy supply concerns.

“Despite oil prices being well over $100, rigs are not growing at a fast pace which means the energy market will be seeing higher oil prices throughout the rest of the year,” said Edward Moya, senior market analyst at OANDA.Even though the oil and gas rig count has climbed for a record 19 months in a row, the weekly increases have mostly been in single digits and oil production is still far from pre-pandemic record levels as many companies focus more on returning money to investors rather than boosting output.

U.S. crude production actually slipped for a second year in a row in 2021 to 11.2 million barrels per day from its record 12.3 million bpd in 2019.

Nonprofit Pitches To Transform Inactive Offshore Oil Platform Into A Lighthouse And Site For Marine Life Growth

Platform Holly is one of six oil platforms off the coast of Santa Barbara.

The platform was permanently shut down in 2015 and is in the process of having its oil pipes filled as part of the decommissioning process to prevent oil seepage.

Ryan Davis, creative director of Americas Green Corps, created the plan to reconfigure the decommissioned Platform Holly into the “Green Lighthouse” national monument back in December 2020.

If approved, the platform’s structure would be used as a base for both a lighthouse and an undersea rock mass used to promote marine life growth.

The project would also simultaneously mitigate oil seepage and promote healthy aquaculture that could be studied by researchers at UC Santa Barbara while furthering California’s commitment to 100% renewable energy, according to Davis.

Currently, Davis is in the midst of continuing his push for the creation of the lighthouse, including meeting with the office of Governor Gavin Newsom to propose the lighthouse.

The newest development, Davis said, is a video pitch created by the team’s creative group that succinctly outlines the project.

Call Grows For Turning California Oil Platforms Into Offshore Reefs

A jackup drilling rig, also called a self-elevating drilling unit, is a mobile bottom-supported offshore drilling structure with columnar or open-truss legs that support the deck and hull.

Hydraulic drilling rigs are used for drilling new hole segments.

Hydraulic rig drilling generates formation cuttings and requires the same attention to drilling hydraulics as conventional drilling.

These regions may be small compartments for very small drilling rigs or several tanks for the larger drilling rigs.

Larger drilling rigs drilling deeper, larger holes may need 3000 bbl or more drilling fluid processing plants.

Electrical area classification for the drilling rig should follow the guidelines established in API RP 500.For self-contained drilling rigs or tender rig derrick sets, any associated, independent offshore fire protection system; alarm and emergency shutdown systems; and relief, flare, vent, and drain systems should meet the minimum requirements established for the platform.

To improve the speed of the drilling operation and shorten the drilling cycle, one of the important elements is saving time in pulling and running the drill pipe; automatic arrangement of the drilling device can satisfy this requirement.

Drilling Rig

Larger rigs are capable of drilling through thousands of metres of the Earth’s crust, using large “Mud pumps” to circulate drilling mud through the drill bit and up the casing annulus, for cooling and removing the “Cuttings” while a well is drilled.

The technique of oil drilling through percussion or rotary drilling has its origins dating back to the ancient Chinese Han Dynasty in 100 BC, where percussion drilling was used to extract natural gas in the Sichuan province.

A modernized variant of the ancient Chinese drilling technique was used by American businessman Edwin Drake to drill Pennsylvania’s first oil well in 1859 using small steam engines to power the drilling process rather than by human muscle.

Primarily in onshore oil and gas fields once a well has been drilled, the drilling rig will be moved off of the well and a service rig that is purpose-built for completions will be moved on to the well to get the well on line.

This frees up the drilling rig to drill another hole and streamlines the operation as well as allowing for specialization of certain services, i.e. completions vs. drilling.

Mining drilling rigs are used for two main purposes, exploration drilling which aims to identify the location and quality of a mineral, and production drilling, used in the production-cycle for mining.

An automated drill rig is an automated full-sized walking land-based drill rig that drills long lateral sections in horizontal wells for the oil and gas industry.

Many UCaaS vendors also offer contact-center capabilities, including auto-attendant, interactive voice response, call routing and customer relationship management integrations.

UCaaS vendors are increasingly adding communications platform as a service capabilities and application programming interfaces to their cloud platforms.

UCaaS vendors range from providers that sell directly to organizations, such as RingCentral, 8×8 Inc. and Microsoft, to third-party cloud service providers, such as Verizon, AT&T and BT. Types of UCaaS architectures.

Enterprises may take a hybrid approach to UCaaS to keep certain applications on premises for security or management reasons.

Why use UCaaS. Many companies, primarily small businesses, use UCaaS to avoid the capital and operational expenses associated with deploying a UC service on their own.

Small businesses were the early adopters of UCaaS technologies, as they often lack the staff and resources to maintain and support on-premises UC. Large enterprises are beginning to deploy UCaaS to streamline their UC services and support multiple or global locations.

Cloud-based enterprise communications also offer a more consistent user experience for remote and mobile workers, as access to UCaaS features is consistent regardless of location.

UCaaS: The Definitive Guide To Unified Communications

UCaaS is short for Unified Communications as a Service.

Unlike Software as a Service, UCaaS is exclusive to communication tools and APIs.

UCaaS has proven itself as the most resilient enterprise communication service.

UCaaS vs. CPaaS. Along your journey to understanding UCaaS, you’ll likely come across CPaaS. Short for Communications Platform as a Service, CPaaS is intended for developers to provide voice and text functionality to an application.

The unified communications market has grown at 25% CAGR. Some analysts expect the UCaaS market to surge past $100 billion by 2024, often at the downfall of on-premises phone systems.

Don’t forget about the ‘Unified’ part of UCaaS. We’ve seen some setbacks that stem from not fully adopting UCaaS. A half-measure here results in more uncertainty and disjointed communications.

In the booming market of UCaaS providers, it’s not always easy to decide which unified communications platform is best for you.

What Is UCaaS? Unified Communications As A Service Explained

Enter UCaaS, which stands for Unified Communications as a Service, which integrates this communication through a cloud model, as well as integrating with cloud-based software applications.

UCaaS is a variant of the “As a service” model of cloud computing, such as the popular Software as a Service, better known as SaaS. UCaaS through the cloud simplifies the deployment, as a large in-house IT team is not needed, as the support is on the backend for a monthly service fee to the provider.

UCaaS offers the opportunity to integrate multiple communication methods through a single cloud provider, including enterprise messaging, telephone communication, and video conferencing, which facilitates team communication.

An example of a UCaaS provider is the RingCentral Office offering, which delivers unified communications with “Enterprise VoIP capabilities.” It offers a gaggle of features, including local, international and toll-free numbers, an auto-receptionist, music on hold, call monitoring, hot desking, call reports, internet fax, and user templates via their hosted PBX service, as well as mobile capability via available iOS and Android apps.

In large companies, Unified Communications means not only chatting and exchanging information with the outer world; it is also about users’ provisioning and administering, and supervising and overseeing.

Almost every department benefits from UCaaS because modern communication takes on different forms and for business that use cloud-based platforms, that UCaaS analytical data is available not just to a few people but to an entire team or department.

Tips for implementing UCaaS at your organizationStart researching the market of UCaas-solutions, when you observe, that processes linked to external communications are increasing and growing.

Unified Communications As A Service

Unified communications as a service is a category of “As a service” or “Cloud” delivery mechanisms for enterprise communications.

Similar to the platform as a service, with UCaaS, unified communications services can be made available from the cloud to businesses from SMB to an enterprise.

Communications-enabled applications – integrated contact centers, communications platform as a service and workstream collaboration.

Prior to the cloud, service providers offered IP Centrex and Hosted communications services.

Secondly, the growing sophistication of enterprise unified communications has meant that companies must invest not only capital.

Companies are able to off-load most of this complexity to service providers with a UCaaS model, as well as ensuring that they always have the very latest versions and features.

There is a significant level of internal competition within organizations as to whether they retain their existing enterprise communications platform, or move to a cloud-based UCaaS model.

Ethylene Glycol

The first large-scale commercial glycol plant was erected in 1925 at South Charleston, West Virginia, by Carbide and Carbon Chemicals Co. By 1929, ethylene glycol was being used by almost all dynamite manufacturers.

A mixture of 60% ethylene glycol and 40% water freezes at −45 °C. Diethylene glycol behaves similarly.

There is a difference in the mixing ratio, depending on whether it is ethylene glycol or propylene glycol.

Ethylene glycol is used in the natural gas industry to remove water vapor from natural gas before further processing, in much the same manner as triethylene glycol.

The purity of glycol used for hydrate suppression is typically around 80%, whereas the purity of glycol used for dehydration is typically 95 to more than 99%. Moreover, the injection rate for hydrate suppression is much lower than the circulation rate in a glycol dehydration tower.

Antifreeze products for automotive use containing propylene glycol in place of ethylene glycol are available.

While prolonged low doses of ethylene glycol show no toxicity, at near lethal doses ethylene glycol acts as a teratogen.

Ethylene Glycol 107-21-1 Hazard Summary Ethylene glycol has many uses, including as antifreeze in cooling and heating systems, in hydraulic brake fluids, and as a solvent.

Acute exposure of humans to ethylene glycol by ingesting large quantities causes three stages of health effects: central nervous system depression, followed by cardiopulmonary effects, and later renal damage.

The only effects noted in one study of individuals exposed to low levels of ethylene glycol by inhalation for about a month were throat and upper respiratory tract irritation.

Health Hazard Information Acute Effects: Acute exposure of humans to ethylene glycol by ingesting large quantities causes three stages of health effects.

Chronic Effects: The only effects were noted in a study of individuals exposed to low levels of ethylene glycol by inhalation for about a month were throat and upper respiratory tract irritation.

Rats chronically exposed to ethylene glycol in their diet exhibited signs of kidney toxicity and liver effects.

Reproductive/Developmental Effects: No information is available on the reproductive or developmental effects of ethylene glycol in humans.

Formula, Structure, Properties & Uses

Ethylene Glycol is dihydroxy alcohol with a chemical formula C2H6O2.

Ethylene Glycol is produced when ethylene oxide reacts with water.

Ethylene glycol has been synthesized by the oxidation of ethylene with O2 to ethylene oxide and the subsequent hydration of ethylene oxide to ethylene glycol.

Ethylene glycol is a prominent member of the class of dihydroxy alcohols known as ethylene glycols, dihydric alcohols or diols.

Ethylene oxide obtained after catalytic oxidation of ethylene is hydrolysed in the presence of dilute acid or base at high temperature to ethylene glycol.

Oxalic esters on reduction with sodium and alcohol give ethylene glycol.

Ethylene Glycol Poisoning: MedlinePlus Medical Encyclopedia

The first symptom of ethylene glycol ingestion is similar to the feeling caused by drinking alcohol.

Ethylene glycol toxicity should be suspected in anyone who is severely ill after drinking an unknown substance, especially if they at first appear drunk and you can’t smell alcohol on their breath.

An overdose of ethylene glycol can damage the brain, lungs, liver, and kidneys.

As little as 120 milliliters of ethylene glycol may be enough to kill an average-sized man.

Diagnosis of ethylene glycol toxicity is usually made through a combination of blood, urine, and other tests.

Most people with ethylene glycol poisoning need to be admitted to a hospital, often to the intensive care unit for close monitoring.

In severe cases, dialysis may be used to directly remove the ethylene glycol and other poisonous substances from the blood.

Ethylene Glycol Heat-Transfer Fluid Properties

Ethylene Glycol based water solutions are common in heat-transfer applications where the temperature in the heat transfer fluid can be below 32oF. Ethylene glycol is also commonly used in heating applications that temporarily may not be operated in surroundings with freezing conditions – such as cars and machines with water cooled engines.

Specific heat, viscosity and specific weight of a water and ethylene glycol solution vary significantly with the percent of ethylene glycol and the temperature of the fluid.

Properties differs so much from clean water that heat transfer systems with ethylene glycol should be calculated thoroughly for actual temperature and solution.

Specific Heat – cp – of ethylene glycol based water solutions at various temperatures are indicated below.

Note! The specific heat of ethylene glycol based water solutions are less than the specific heat of clean water.

For a heat transfer system with ethylene glycol the circulated volume must be increased compared to a system only with water.

Note! The density of ethylene glycol is higher than water – check the specific gravity table above, so the net impact on the heat transport capacity is reduced.

Dassault Aviation To Freeze Falcon Deliveries To Russian Clients

Dassault Aviation SA will suspend deliveries of its Falcon business jets to Russian clients as it ensures “Scrupulous” adherence to Western sanctions against the country following its invasion of neighboring Ukraine, the French plane maker’s chief executive said Friday.

The company will also freeze existing Russian orders, which mainly concern high-end models such as the Falcon 8X, CEO Eric Trappier said during a conference call following 2021 results.

The recent recovery in business aviation has in any case been propelled by two main “Lungs,” namely Europe and the U.S., Mr. Trappier said.

The company’s decision to halt its business with Russian clients comes after peer Airbus SE said earlier this week that it would stop supplying spare parts to the country, as well as halting support services for airlines there.

The moves were in line with new international sanctions put in place following the invasion of Ukraine last week by Russian forces, Airbus said.

U.S. rival Boeing Co. has also suspended parts and maintenance support for Russian carriers.

In addition to military sales, Eric Trappier has been responsible for negotiating military industrial cooperation agreements, notably the European nEUROn unmanned combat aerial vehicle, undertaken with Sweden, Italy, Switzerland, Spain and Greece.

He played a key role in launching the current European UCAV study in cooperation with BAE Systems of the UK. After his military service in the French Navy as an officer, Eric Trappier joined Dassault Aviation in 1984 as a system engineer at the design office.

In 1987, he was assigned to the military exports’ technical support.

In 1991, he was put in charge of military sales for Asia.

He became Vice-President, military aircraft sales, for the Middle East and Africa in 2000, and took over the worldwide military exports position a year later.

Eric Trappier graduated from Paris’ “Sud Telecom” school for engineers.

Dassault Aviation CEO Eric Trappier threatens to pull out of developing a European fighter jet with Airbus, the latest in a lengthy dispute over leadership of the project.

The New Generation Fighter project was first agreed by the French and German governments in 2017 but has been paralyzed by months of infighting between the two industry suppliers.

“We decided at the beginning to join the program provided we got a certain number of commitments from Airbus,” Trappier said, according to Bloomberg.

“The first one was the leadership of Dassault in the architecture of the future fighter, the second is that the flight control system is for us.”

The comments came as Dassault reported its FY 2021 net income nearly doubled to €605M from €303M in 2020 as net sales jumped to €7.25B from €5.49B, but guided for lower net sales in 2022.

Dassault also said it will suspend deliveries of its Falcon business jets to Russian clients; Airbus said earlier this week that it will stop supplying spare parts to Russia.

The value of Dassault shares has jumped nearly 20% since Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine nine days ago, as investors bet on bigger military budgets and Germany pledged to boost its defense spending.

Dassault Recovers In 2021, But War Weighs On 2022 Growth

Dassault Aviation today reported strong 2021 results, signaling a recovery from the pandemic, but the French aerospace group warned that performance this year could be dampened by the Russia-Ukraine war and strains on supply chains, particularly of raw materials such as titanium sourced from now heavily sanctioned Russia.

The company’s revenues last year climbed to €7.23 billion from €5.49 billion the previous year, while earnings more than doubled, to €527 million.

Eric Trappier, Dassault’s chairman and CEO, described 2021 as “An exceptional year,” with order intake totaling €12.1 billion, up from €3.46 billion in 2020.

That backlog includes previously reported orders for 51 Falcon business jets-versus 15 in 2020-and 49 Rafales.

The group expects to deliver 35 Falcons and 13 Rafales this year, compared with 30 Falcon shipments-five more aircraft than initially expected-and 25 Rafales in 2021.

Trappier told AIN that the war in Ukraine would affect the company’s business jet division.

He said he hoped to compensate the likely loss of orders to Russia and Russian oligarchs with new orders from other customers resulting from the business jet market recovery.

Dassault Plans Rafale Rate Rise To Cope With Export Success

Output of Rafale fighters will increase to three per month by the middle of the decade on the back of export sales success for Dassault Aviation.

Chief executive Eric Trappier, presenting the French airframer’s full-year results on 4 March, said that production will increase to “Cadence three” in the coming years from a planned two-per-month rate.

The backlog for the Rafale at year-end stood at 86 aircraft, of which 46 are for the export market.

The sharp ramp-up will not take place in 2022, when Dassault will ship just 13 Rafales, down from 25 this year, all of which will again go to export customers, in this case India and Egypt.

Deliveries of the Rafale to France have been paused for several years “Due to some budgetary choices” and are only likely to resume from 2023 or beyond.

“Very often the Rafale is the adjustment variable in the French budget,” notes Trappier.

Last year Croatia also joined the Rafale operator community, signing for 12 secondhand Rafales from France.

Éric Trappier – European CEO

Having been made CEO of Dassault Aviation in January, Éric Trappier is being asked to demonstrate a great deal of dependable foresight and prove himself business-savvy in order to guide the aircraft manufacturer towards further growth.

In 1987, Trappier entered Dassault’s international arm: his initial role being in international technical direction.

The shift to international relations would characterise the following 25 years of his work with the company and greatly influence the reasoning behind his appointment as CEO. By focusing primarily on the export of aircraft to Middle Eastern militaries, Trappier has – since being made International Managing Director in 2006 – advanced the cause of Dassault in his ardent pursuit of foreign investment.

Having demonstrated keen sales acumen in his negotiations with both India and the United Arab Emirates – resulting in famously lucrative deals for Dassault – Trappier now looks set on returning to India and securing the largest military aircraft deal in the history of the company.

Though Dassault remains a company with deep family ties and an esteemed local heritage, Trappier considers these values largely redundant in today’s disparate global economy.

Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed told UAE’s state news service in November 2011: “Dassault seem unaware that all the diplomatic and political will in the world cannot overcome uncompetitive and unworkable commercial terms.” The breakdown left Dassault uncertain of a healthy relationship with the UAE, though many consider Trappier the ideal candidate to mend ties given his past experience dealing with the region through 2000-09.

The financial status of Dassault will favour Trappier because he has little-to-no experience of dealing with financial matters – something many consider to stand him in ill stead for the role.

British Columbia

British Columbia is the fourth-largest province or territory by GDP. The province’s name was chosen by Queen Victoria, when the Colony of British Columbia, i.e., “The Mainland”, became a British colony in 1858.

It refers to the Columbia District, the British name for the territory drained by the Columbia River, in southeastern British Columbia, which was the namesake of the pre-Oregon Treaty Columbia Department of the Hudson’s Bay Company.

Queen Victoria chose British Columbia to distinguish what was the British sector of the Columbia District from the United States, which became the Oregon Territory on August 8, 1848, as a result of the treaty.

Ultimately, the Columbia in the name British Columbia is derived from the name of the Columbia Rediviva, an American ship which lent its name to the Columbia River and later the wider region; the Columbia in the name Columbia Rediviva came from the name Columbia for the New World or parts thereof, a reference to Christopher Columbus.

The Vancouver Island colony was facing financial crises of its own, and pressure to merge the two eventually succeeded in 1866, when the colony of British Columbia was amalgamated with the Colony of Vancouver Island to form the Colony of British Columbia, which was, in turn, succeeded by the present day province of British Columbia following the Canadian Confederation of 1871.

Previously, the right-of-centre British Columbia Liberal Party governed the province for 16 years between 2001 and 2017, and won the largest landslide election in British Columbia history in 2001, with 77 of 79 seats.

Prior to the rise of the Liberal Party, British Columbia’s main political party was the British Columbia Social Credit Party which ruled British Columbia for 20 continuous years.

Land Relief The vast territory of British Columbia lies almost entirely within the great mountain system, or cordillera, that stretches along the western edge of the Americas from north of the Arctic Circle to Cape Horn, at the southernmost extremity of South America.

These mountains divide the province in ranges aligned in a northwest-southeast direction, creating a series of valleys and a broad central interior plateau where human settlement has concentrated.

The two major ranges are the Coast Mountains, which lie in the western part of the province, and the Canadian portion of the Rocky Mountains in the eastern part.

The province reaches its highest elevation in the far northwest at Mount Fairweather, located in the St. Elias Mountains on the Alaskan border.

In the interior many of the wide plateaus are cut by deep canyons and entirely surrounded by mountain ranges, including the Cassiar, Omineca, Skeena, and Hazelton mountains in the north and the Columbia Mountains in the southeast.

The Columbia follows the Rocky Mountain Trench northward, bends around the northern end of the Selkirk Mountains, and turns south to flow into the Arrow Lakes and then into the U.S. states of Washington and Oregon.

The larger lakes are made long and narrow by the north-south mountain ranges that confine them in the deep and narrow valleys in all parts of the province.

Toyota Corolla: Foundations Of A World-Beater

The Toyota Corolla is a world famous line-up of family cars.

Corollas have been produced over twelve generations, including two generations of the Toyota Auris.

Toyota correctly predicted that a motorisation boom was approaching and reacted swiftly, building a sprawling new plant in Takaoka, Toyota City, to produce a newly developed compact family car that would fit between the 800cc Toyota Publica model and 1500cc Toyota Corona.

As the planned October 1966 launch approached it was revealed that the name of this forthcoming model was the Corolla ,while production set at 30,000 units per month – a huge number that sent shock waves through the media as Toyota’s total monthly production volume at the time was 50,000 vehicles.

Three-speed column-shift transmissions were the norm at the time, but Toyota recognised that four-speed floor-shift transmissions were already common in Europe and would be necessary in the approaching highway age.

Coincidentally, Corolla was in harmony with an emerging but unwritten convention within Toyota of giving cars names beginning with the letter ‘C’. The Crown luxury vehicle and mid-size Corona were already on the market, and Corolla was followed by Celica, Carina, Corsa, Camry and Cressida.

In 1946, after World War II and the dismantling of Japan’s aerospace industry, Hasegawa joined Toyota Motor Company Ltd. As a chief engineer, Hasegawa oversaw development of the Publica, Sports 800, Corolla and Celica.

What Is A Hybrid Car And How Do They Work?

Car companies use different hybrid designs to accomplish different missions, ranging from maximum fuel savings to keeping the vehicle’s cost as low as possible.

Plug-In HybridA plug-in hybrid enhances the conventional hybrid concept with a much larger battery pack that, like an electric car’s, must be fully recharged using an external electricity source-from your home, office, or public charging station.

Should you deplete the all-electric range, the car basically reverts to being a conventional parallel hybrid.

Plug-in hybrids can be either a series or a parallel hybrid.

Variations on the Hybrid Theme Twenty years of advancement is making it even more complicated to answer “What is a hybrid?” Honda’s new hybrid design doesn’t fall neatly into the series or parallel bucket.

Originally envisioned as a simpler and cheaper means of bringing hybrid technology to market, mild hybrids don’t improve fuel economy to the extent that full hybrid systems can.

Recently mild hybrid powertrains are making a comeback, as evidenced by the adoption of 48-volt electrical subsystems in vehicles such as the Ram 1500, Mercedes-Benz E-class, and Audi A6, A7, and A8. Basically, car companies are now applying mild-hybrid technology to just about every new model.

How Hybrids Work

Hybrid electric vehicles combine the benefits of gasoline engines and electric motors.

Regenerative braking recaptures energy normally lost during coasting or braking.

The electric motor provides power to assist the engine in accelerating, passing, or hill climbing.

This allows a smaller, more-efficient engine to be used.

In some hybrids, the electric motor alone propels the vehicle at low speeds, where gasoline engines are least efficient.

Automatically shuts off the engine when the vehicle comes to a stop and restarts it when the accelerator is pressed.

Antonio Filosa said the company plans to launch 16 new models and seven electric and hybrid models in the region by 2025, in a plan that aims to boost French brands Peugeot and Citroen without losing sight of Fiat and Jeep’s market leadership.

“Around 2025, if everything goes right, we could start proposing this type of technology,” Filosa said when questioned about a potential launch in 2026.

Gwyneth Kate Paltrow was born on September 27, 1972, in Los Angeles, to actress Blythe Danner and film producer-director Bruce Paltrow.

Entertainment Weekly commented, “Best of all is Gwyneth Paltrow, who, at long last, has a movie to star in that’s as radiant as she is.” The New York Times summed up her performance as Viola thus: “Gwyneth Paltrow, in her first great, fully realized starring performance, makes a heroine so breathtaking that she seems utterly plausible as the playwright’s guiding light.” Shakespeare in Love made $289 million in box office receipts, and won Paltrow the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role, Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical, and Academy Award for Best Actress, among other honors.

On her portrayal in the film version, Eye for Film remarked: “As she has already shown in Sylvia, The Royal Tenenbaums and even Sliding Doors, Paltrow has an uncanny talent for playing women who are coming apart at the seams and her [character] veers from lovably eccentric to more disturbingly unhinged and back again with fluent ease. The scenes, which she and Hopkins share, as two difficult people bound together by affection, dependency, and mutual respect, are entirely believable and all the more touching for it.” For her performance, Paltrow received her second Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama.

The consensus of review-aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes was: “The cast gives it their all, and Paltrow handles her songs with aplomb, but Country Strong’s clichéd, disjointed screenplay hits too many bum notes.” At the 83rd Academy Awards, Paltrow performed another song from the film, “Coming Home,” which was nominated for Best Original Song.

In June 2017, Paltrow announced that she would take a break from acting to focus on her business Goop, stating: “I’m still going to do a little bit here and there, but really requires almost all of my time.” In 2019, Paltrow reprised her role as Pepper Potts in Avengers: Endgame.

Nippon Yusen Autonomous Cargo Ship

Akihabara News – Backed by the Nippon Foundation, Japan’s largest shipping company, Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha, plans to have a container ship pilot itself from Tokyo Bay to Ise city, Mie Prefecture.

The 380 kilometer voyage will be the world’s first test of an autonomous ship in an area with heavy marine traffic.

Shipping firms Mitsui OSK Lines and Nippon Yusen are working with shipbuilders to share both costs and expertise.

Employing autonomous ships in Japan would address the impending issue of the country’s aging and shrinking workforce.

The autonomous ships may be ready for practical use by 2025.

The Nippon Foundation aims to continue backing the development of autonomous ships with the goal of making up 50% of Japan’s local fleet autonomous by 2040.

According to Allied Market Research, the global market for autonomous shipping could grow to around US$166 billion by 2030.

Nippon Yusen And Partners To Develop Ammonia-Fuelled Vessels

TOKYO – Japan’s Nippon Yusen KK and its partners said on Tuesday they will conduct a demonstration project to develop commercial vessels equipped with ammonia-fuelled engines to help reduce carbon dioxide emissions to tackle climate change.

NYK, Japan Engine, IHI Power Systems, Nihon Shipyard and ship certifier Nippon Kaiji Kyokai aim to develop and operate an ammonia-fuelled tug boat in the 2024 financial year and an ammonia-fuelled ammonia gas carrier in the 2026 year.

Both vessels will use some fuel oil as pilot fuel since ammonia has a flame retardant bottleneck, meaning it is difficult to ignite.

“To lower emissions from ships, liquefied natural gas(LNG) will be the most appropriate fuel to replace fuel oil for the time being,” Tsutomu Yokoyama, general manager of NYK, told reporters.

“Ammonia-fuelled ships won’t be in full swing until 2030s as global supply chains of the fuel are needed,” he said.

Japanese trading house Itochu Corp said on Tuesday it and four other companies will develop an ammonia-fuelled ship by 2028, also supported by the government’s fund.

Japan has set a target to grow the nation’s annual ammonia fuel demand to 3 million tonnes by 2030 from zero now and to create a supply chain of the fuel to promote development of clean energy.

Nippon Yūsen Kabushiki Kaisha, also known as NYK Line, is a Japanese shipping company and is a member of the Mitsubishi keiretsu.

NYK introduced its first passenger motor ships in 1929, but continued to buy a mixture of steam and motor passenger ships until 1939.

NYK had 36 passenger ships; by the time of Japan’s surrender only one, the motor ship Hikawa Maru, survived.

As the demand for passenger ships dwindled in the 1960s, NYK expanded its cargo operation, running Japan’s first container ship Hakone Maru on a route to California in 1968 and soon establishing container ship routes to many other ports.

NYK revived its passenger ship business in 1989 with cruise ships operated by its newly formed subsidiary Crystal Cruises.

The ships are used on the European Far East route and are the largest container ships built in Japan so far, having a maximum container capacity of 14,026 TEU. In May 2021 NYK Line became the first Japanese shipping firm to join the Sustainable Shipping Initiative’s Ship Recycling Transparency Initiative, which incorporates the Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships.

On Monday, 31 October 2016, Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Mitsui OSK Lines and Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha agreed to merge their container shipping business via establishing a completely new joint venture company.

Improper design, blocking and clogging of the flue vent, and insufficient combustion air result in improper combustion and the emission of aldehydes, CO, hydrocarbons, and other organics.

Emission factors for LPG combustion are presented in Table 1.5-1.

Methane emissions are highest during periods of low-temperature combustion or incomplete combustion, such as the start-up or shut-down cycle for boilers.

LPG burners are more prone to sooting under the modified combustion conditions required for low NOx emissions.

One NOx control system that has been demonstrated on small commercial boilers is FGR. NOx emissions from propane combustion can be reduced by as much as 50 percent by recirculating about 16 percent of the flue gas.

C Emission factors were added for N2O and CH4. July 2008 The PM filterable, NOx, CO and TOC emissions factors were updated and the PM condensable and PM total emissions factors were added using the revised PM, NOx, CO and TOC emissions factors for natural gas combustion for small boilers.

The equation for converting from methane’s emissions factors to propane’s emissions factors is as follows: lb pollutant/103 gallons of propane = * /. The NOx emission factors have been multiplied by a correction factor of 1.5, which is the approximate ratio of propane/butane NOx emissions to natural gas NOx emissions.

Liquefied Petroleum Gas

For comparison purposes, 1% of the 2001 gasoline market was 1260 gallons, about five times as much as the gasoline equivalent sales of LPG. Thus, sales of LPG, at about 0.2% of gasoline, are far less than ethanol blended into gasoline or natural gas used in MTBE blended into gasoline.

Among neat and near-neat alternative fuels, natural gas is second in sales to LPG. In 2001, sales of natural gas in transportation were estimated to be about 105 million gallons of gasoline equivalent, up from about 20 in 1993.

In Ecuador, large LPG subsidies have resulted in high primary use of gas stoves but also a large fiscal burden.

LPG is liquefied for transport and then vaporized for use as a heating fuel, engine fuel, or as a feedstock in the petrochemical or chemical industries.

LPG is a by-product from two sources: natural gas processing and crude oil refining.

Produced from natural gas processing and crude oil refining, LPG is non-toxic, colorless and virtually odorless.

LPG is generally derived from two sources: natural gas processing and petroleum refining.

Liquefied Petroleum Gas

LPG is prepared by refining petroleum or “Wet” natural gas, and is almost entirely derived from fossil fuel sources, being manufactured during the refining of petroleum, or extracted from petroleum or natural gas streams as they emerge from the ground.

LPG is the most common cooking fuel in Brazilian urban areas, being used in virtually all households, with the exception of the cities of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, which have a natural gas pipeline infrastructure.

LPG is most often used in areas that do not have direct access to piped natural gas.

LPG is instrumental in providing off-the-grid refrigeration, usually by means of a gas absorption refrigerator.

LPG is composed mainly of propane and butane, while natural gas is composed of the lighter methane and ethane.

In order to allow the use of the same burner controls and to provide for similar combustion characteristics, LPG can be mixed with air to produce a synthetic natural gas that can be easily substituted.

LPG-based SNG is used in emergency backup systems for many public, industrial and military installations, and many utilities use LPG peak shaving plants in times of high demand to make up shortages in natural gas supplied to their distributions systems.

Propane, Liquefied Petroleum Gas

Propane, or liquefied petroleum gas, is a clean-burning fossil fuel that can be used in internal combustion engines.

Most of the propane used in the U.S. is produced domestically.

The drawbacks to LPG are the limited number of fueling stations and vehicles.

Over 900 public fueling stations sell LPG. A few light-duty vehicles-mostly larger trucks and vans-can be ordered from a dealer with a prep-ready engine package and converted to use propane.

Others can switch between propane and a conventional fuel such as gasoline.

Propane is stored as a liquid in pressurized fuel tanks rated to 300 psi.

LPG conversions consist of installing a separate fuel system or a replacement fuel system.

Balance Of Trade Definition

Balance of trade is the largest component of a country’s balance of payments.

Sometimes the balance of trade between a country’s goods and the balance of trade between its services are distinguished as two separate figures.

The balance of trade is also referred to as the trade balance, the international trade balance, commercial balance, or the net exports.

Conversely, a country that exports more goods and services than it imports has a trade surplus or a positive trade balance.

Conversely, the United States had the largest trade deficit, even with the ongoing trade war with China, with the United Kingdom and Brazil coming in second and third.

In August, the United States had a trade balance of -$67.1 billion, or a $67.1 billion trade deficit.

A country with a large trade deficit borrows money to pay for its goods and services, while a country with a large trade surplus lends money to deficit countries.

Definition, Formula, And Example

The balance of trade, also known as the trade balance, refers to the difference between the monetary value of a country’s imports and exports over a given time period.

A positive trade balance indicates a trade surplus while a negative trade balance indicates a trade deficit.

To the misconception of many, a positive or negative trade balance does not necessarily indicate a healthy or weak economy.

Whether a positive or negative BOT is beneficial for an economy depends on the countries involved, the trade policy decisions, the duration of the positive or negative BOT, and the size of the trade imbalance, among other things.

Economists generally agree that neither trade surpluses or trade deficits are inherently “Bad” or “Good” for the economy.

A negative trade balance occurs when exports < imports and is referred to as a trade deficit.

Key TakeawaysThe balance of trade refers to the difference between a country’s exports and imports.

How To Calculate?

Suppose the USA imported $1.8 trillion in 2016 but exported $1.2 trillion to other countries, then the USA had a trade balance of -$600 billion, or a $600 billion trade deficit.

In effect, an economy with a trade surplus lends money to deficit countries, whereas an economy with a large trade deficit borrows money to pay for its goods and services.

The US has had a trade deficit since 1976, whereas China has had a trade surplus since 1995.

For the balance of trade examples in economic growth, countries prefer to import more to promote price competition, limiting inflation.

Let us take another balance of trade example – Hong Kong, in general, always has a trade deficit.

Another balance of trade example is Canada, whose small trade deficit results from economic growth.

We discuss a trade surplus and trade deficit.

Balance Of Trade

The balance of trade measures the net exports of goods and services.

The balance of trade refers to both trade in goods and services – Though people may refer to a specific balance of trade in goods.

2012 Q3. The balance of trade in goods and services was – £11,660m.

The major component of the current account is the trade balance – trade in goods.

The trade balance is often counter-balanced by investment incomes.

If the value of imports is greater than the value of exports we say a country has a trade deficit.

In recessions, the balance of trade tends to improve as consumer spending falls and demand for imports goes down.

Balance Of Trade: Definition, Calculation, Favorable Vs. Unfavorable

The balance of trade is the value of a country’s exports minus its imports.

A country’s trade balance equals the value of its exports minus its imports.

Many countries implement trade policies that encourage a trade surplus.

To maintain a trade surplus, some nations resort to trade protectionism.

The balance of trade is the most significant component of the balance of payments.

The balance of payments adds international investments plus net income made on those investments to the trade balance.

A country can run a trade deficit, but still have a surplus in its balance of payments.

United States Balance Of Trade

The US trade gap in both goods and services rose 27% to hit $859 billion in 2021, an annual record as imports grew faster than exports.

In December alone, the deficit increased to $80.7 billion from a downwardly revised $79.3 billion gap in November and close to a record high of $80.8 billion in September, as imports surged to an all-time high as businesses were restocking the shelves.

Balance of Trade in the United States averaged -16321.

This page provides the latest reported value for – United States Balance of Trade – plus previous releases, historical high and low, short-term forecast and long-term prediction, economic calendar, survey consensus and news.

United States Balance of Trade – data, historical chart, forecasts and calendar of releases – was last updated on March of 2022.

Balance of Trade in the United States is expected to be -72000.

In the long-term, the United States Balance of Trade is projected to trend around -51000.

Definition, Formula And Examples

The positive trade balance is the indicator of the trade surplus while on the other hand, the negative trade balance is associated with the trade deficit.

A country arrives at the balance of trade or trade balance by subtracting its imports from its exports.

A trade surplus also termed a positive trade balance occurs when exports are more in value than imports, and a trade deficit occurs when the imports exceed the exports.

Nations having a considerable trade deficit engage in borrowing money for paying for the goods or services, while those with a trade surplus help those with a trade deficit by lending money.

Several countries consider trade surplus to be better than trade deficit, and therefore they have adopted trade policies that ensure more exports are made.

Balance of trade includes only those imports and exports visible; for instance, when some merchandise is exported or imported, it will become a part of the balance of trade.

What Is Economic Surplus And How Does It Work?

There’s also economic surplus, which refers to the sum total of two parts – consumer surplus and producer surplus – and reflects the surplus each party takes advantage of in a particular economic activity.

Economic surplus refers to the respective gains that a consumer or producer gets within an economic activity and is the combined benefit, sometimes referred to as “Total welfare.” It can also be referred to as total surplus or community surplus as well.

Economic surplus has two parts to it: consumer surplus and producer surplus.

The two parts of economic surplus – the consumer surplus and producer surplus – represents the gains or surplus a consumer or producer receives in a particular economic transaction.

Let’s dive into how economic surplus actually works, starting with consumer surplus.

Given the example above, the consumer surplus is $150 as the customer would be willing to pay $500 but scored a deal of $350. The producer surplus is $100 because the producer would sell at $250 but a customer is okay paying $350. In this example, the economic surplus is $250, which represents the sum of consumer and producer surplus.

Surplus can refer to many things but economic surplus is used to evaluate market conditions and benefits for both consumers and producers.

What Is An Economic Surplus?

Definition: Economic surplus, also known as total welfare, is the sum of the consumer surplus and the producer surplus in an economy.

What is the definition of economic surplus? Based on the general price level and consumer expectations, consumers are willing to pay a certain price for certain goods and services.

If they manage to pay a lower price than the maximum price they would be willing to pay, they have a consumer surplus.

The sum of consumer surplus and producer surplus equals the economic surplus of an economy.

Ted has a consumer surplus of $300. From the firm’s perspective, the minimum selling price for this computer was $800. Eventually, the firm sold the computer for $1,200.

The firm has a producer surplus of $400. The economic surplus of this transaction is $300 + $400 = $700. Summary Definition.

Define Economic Surplus: An economic surplus is the sum of all consumer and producer surpluses in an economy.

What Is Economic Surplus? Definition And Meaning

Economic surplus is also known as Marshallian surplus, named after the British economist Alfred Marshall who made the term widely known – economists also use ‘total welfare’ with the same meaning.

According to My Accounting Course, economic surplus is the sum of the consumer surplus and the producer surplus in an economy.

The consumer surplus is 13 minus 10 times 1,000 = $3,000.

Arsène Jules Étienne Juvenel Dupuit, an Italian-born French civil engineer and economist, first proposed the concept of an economic surplus in the mid-19th century.

On a standard supply and demand chart, the consumer surplus is the triangular area above the equilibrium price of a product and below the demand curve.

In the same supply and demand chart, the producer surplus is the area just above the supply curve, below the equilibrium price, which reflects the fact that producers would have accepted a lower-than-equilibrium price for the first unit, a second unit at a higher price but still below the equilibrium price, etc.

Consumers, who were already willing to purchase at the previous price, benefit from the discount – they may purchase more and receive additional consumer surplus.

Surplus Definition

There are two types of economic surplus: consumer surplus and producer surplus.

As a rule, consumer surplus and producer surplus are mutually exclusive, in that what’s good for one is bad for the other.

What Is an Example of a Surplus? Take this example of a consumer surplus.

What Is a Surplus in Economics? Economic surplus consists of consumer surplus and producer surplus.

Consumer surplus occurs when the price for a product or service is lower than the highest price a consumer would willingly pay.

What Is a Surplus Auction? Surplus property is property the government does not need.

How Do You Calculate a Surplus? Surplus is the amount of an asset or resource that exceeds the portion that is utilized.

Room For Optimism Despite ‘Bleak’ B.C. Financial Forecast

Almost $5.5 billion in the coming year and more than $7.6 billion over the following two years.

The budget predicts overall revenues will actually shrink by almost $1.7 billion in the next fiscal year.

The unanticipated amount of economic activity swelled government coffers by almost $10 billion more than had been forecast.

While some of those revenues were one-shot occurrences, there seems to be little reason to think other revenue streams will contract quite as much as forecast.

If revenue growth in the coming year is even less than half of what we have seen in the current year, Robinson could come much closer to balancing next year’s budget.

Another huge forecast allowance is embedded in the budget which, if not needed, could further push the budget closer to the balanced level.

The forecast allowance in the current year appears not to have been needed at this point, which could eventually push the current $483 million deficit into a slight surplus when all the bills are paid.

Economic Surplus

Consumer surplus is the difference between the maximum price a consumer is willing to pay and the actual price they do pay.

For a given price the consumer buys the amount for which the consumer surplus is highest.

With multiple price and/or income changes consumer surplus cannot be used to approximate economic welfare because it is not single-valued anymore.

If the price change in consumer surplus is negative, the price change is said to have decreased the individual’s welfare.

The change in consumer surplus is the area of the trapezoid with i) height equal to the change in price and ii) mid-segment length equal to the average of the ex-post and ex-ante equilibrium quantities.

Producer surplus refers to the additional benefits that the owners of production factors and product providers bring to producers due to the differences between production, the supply price of the product, and the current market price.

If there is a surplus of goods, that is, people can only sell part of the goods at market prices, and producer surplus will decrease.

Four curing systems can be used for BR and chlorinated butyl rubber formulations.

Yl rubber vulcanizates have tensile strengths up to 2000 psi and are characterized by low permeability to air and a high resistance to many chemicals and to oxidation.

Heat treatment procedures, in which butyl rubber and carbon blacks are subjected to high temperatures for at least 2-3 minutes generally give improved vulcanizate properties in the presence of dinitroso benzene.

These structural elements reflect the advantageous combination of physical-chemical properties of the rubber, i.e. improved blending and covulcanizability with other rubbers, a faster cure rate than butyl rubber and good heat resistance.

Sensitivity to oxidation varies significantly depending on the polymer in question; without stabilizers, polypropylene and unsaturated polymers such as rubber will slowly degrade at room temperature whereas polystyrene can be stable even at high temperatures.

Tiny traces of ozone in the air will attack unsaturated or double bonds of carbon in rubber polymers of natural rubber, polybutadiene, styrene butadiene rubber, and nitrile rubber.

A copolymer of isobutylene and isoprene, is almost exclusively used as the inner liner for tubeless tyres and in tyre tubes because of its very low air permeability compared to natural or other synthetic rubbers.

Properties, Applications, And Uses

The addition of isoprene creates double bonds that allow the material to be crosslinked by vulcanization, just like natural rubber.

Due to its low gas and vapor permeability, butyl rubber is an important material in the manufacturing of tubeless tires, inner tubes, sports-ball bladders, glove-box gloves, etc.

Speaker cone edges are often made from butyl rubber today where once they were commonly made of foam.

Though not as soft and compliant as silicone rubber, butyl rubber is flexible enough that it can achieve a good face seal.

Compared with natural rubber, butyl rubber is costlier due to more complex processing requirements.

Some anecdotal discussion exists regarding natural vs. butyl rubber motorcycle tire tubes, as the natural rubber is said to have better puncture resistance and tear strength but butyl rubber tubes can go longer between airings.

This article presented a brief discussion of butyl rubber, including its properties, advantages, and applications.

Butyl Rubber

A synthetic rubber, or elastomer, butyl rubber is impermeable to air and used in many applications requiring an airtight rubber.

Polyisobutylene and butyl rubber are used in the manufacture of adhesives, agricultural chemicals, fiber optic compounds, ball bladders, O-rings, caulks and sealants, cling film, electrical fluids, lubricants, paper and pulp, personal care products, pigment concentrates, for rubber and polymer modification, for protecting and sealing certain equipment for use in areas where chemical weapons are present, as a gasoline/diesel fuel additive, and chewing gum.

Today, the majority of the global supply of butyl rubber is produced by two companies, ExxonMobil and Polymer Corporation, a Canadian federal crown corporation established in 1942 to produce artificial rubber to substitute for overseas supply cut off by World War II. It was renamed Polysar in 1976 and the rubber component became a subsidiary, Polysar Rubber Corp. The company was privatized in 1988 with its sale to NOVA Corp which, in turn, sold Polysar Rubber in 1990 to Bayer AG of Germany.

In the 1950s and 1960s, halogenated butyl rubber was developed, in its chlorinated and brominated variants, providing significantly higher curing rates and allowing covulcanization with other rubbers such as natural rubber and styrene-butadiene rubber.

Yl rubber sealant is used for damp proofing, rubber roof repair and for maintenance of roof membranes.

Polyester fabric laminated to butyl rubber binder provides a single-sided waterproof tape that can be used on metal, PVC, and cement joints.

While butyl rubber will break down when exposed to agents such as NH3 or certain solvents, it breaks down more slowly than comparable elastomers.

Yl Rubber Rolls is a synthetic rubber, a copolymer of isobutylene with isoprene.

Yl Rubber is impermeable to air and used in many applications requiring an airtight rubber.

Yl Rubber is a very good general purpose rubber used for many applications and is a high strength rubber material, known for its excellent resistance to oils and high vapor chemicals.

The most unique characteristic of Butyl rubber is that its permeability to air is 70% better than that of most other rubber materials and for this reason the industry uses it for tire tubes and tubeless tire inner liners.

Yl rubber rolls are used where a formed gasket may be needed.

Yl rubber rolls can also be used for piecing together a formidable gasket to prevent fluids from leaking and in many gasket applications in the industrial arena to include pipe saddles, flange gaskets and piping supports / pipe padding.

DiscountRubberDirect.com’s Butyl Rubber has a high resistance to abrasion and carries above average tear resistance making it common to use in marine environments and electrical applications.

Properties, Applications, Uses

This article briefly describes the Butyl rubber material and some common applications.

YL RUBBER APPLICATION. ADVANTAGES OF BUTYL RUBBER. Butyl rubber is the only elastomer that is resistant to gases.

Yl rubber elastomers have some limitations, Butyl rubber is challenging to handle during the manufacturing process because it has a propensity to trap air, creep, and blisters.

Bad working conditions can shorten the expected life but If properly taken care of, butyl rubber can last up to five or ten years.

In 1937, Sparks and his co-worker R.M. Thomas, chemists from New Jersey came up with butyl rubber manufactured by polymerizing isobutylene with low proportions of butadiene or isoprene.

Yl Rubber is one of the best rubber available in the market due to its excellent insulating properties and flexible temperature characteristics.

Yl rubber is only one of the certain kinds of rubber used in the industry today.

Definition, History, Synthetic Rubber Vs Natural Rubber & Uses

Synthetic rubber is usually derived from additional polymers of polyene monomers and, unless the synthetic rubber is disclosed as a polysulfide rubber, laminates containing such a layer will be classified with additional polymers.

Synthetic rubber serves as a substitute for natural rubber in many cases, especially when improved material properties are required.

Synthetic Rubber vs Natural Rubber Natural Rubber Synthetic Rubber The rubber which is obtained from natural sources such as plants and animals rubber called natural rubber.

It remains to be seen if synthetic rubber, on quality and uniformity basis will continue to be consumed voluntarily under the present price relationship of natural and synthetic rubber.

Uses of Synthetic Rubber Synthetic rubber is preferred over natural rubber for some uses if the price differential is not too great.

Polyisoprene synthesis is the artificial rubber which has identical properties with those of natural rubber in the chemical composition of ingredients used in its manufacture.

How do you make synthetic rubber? What are the different types of synthetic rubber?Where is synthetic rubber used? Why is natural rubber better than synthetic? Is synthetic rubber renewable?

Synthetic Rubber

Production of synthetic rubber in the United States expanded greatly during World War II since the Axis powers controlled nearly all the world’s limited supplies of natural rubber by mid-1942, following the Japanese conquest of most of Asia.

Operation Pointblank bombing targets of Nazi Germany included the Schkopau plant and the Hüls synthetic rubber plant near Recklinghausen, and the Kölnische Gummifäden Fabrik tire and tube plant at Deutz on the east bank of the Rhine.

The Ferrara, Italy, synthetic rubber factory was bombed August 23, 1944.

A synthetic rubber plant at Oświęcim, in Nazi-occupied Poland, was under construction on March 5, 1944 operated by IG Farben and supplied with slave labor, by the SS, from the associated camp Auschwitz III. The most prevalent synthetic rubber is styrene-butadiene rubbers derived from the copolymerization of styrene and 1,3-butadiene.

Silicone rubber is also a synthetic elastomer composed of silicone polymers.

Some synthetic rubbers are less sensitive to ozone cracking than NR. Natural rubber is sensitive owing to the double bonds in its chain structure, but some synthetic rubbers do not possess these bonds and so are more resistant to ozone cracking.

A new class of synthetic rubber is the thermoplastic elastomers which can be moulded easily unlike conventional NR vulcanized rubber.

Types Of Synthetic Rubber,What Is Synhetic Rubber,Types Of Rubber

Rubber is a broad term used to refer to many types of different polymers, simply called the types of rubber that are all elastomers.

Canada’S Transport Minister Defends Mandates For Truckers As ‘Freedom Convoy’ Raises $1 MILLION

Ottawa, ON – Canada’s Minister of Transport is defending new mandates for truckers as thousands of drivers and concerned citizens are supporting a nationwide protest set to begin this weekend.

On Thursday, Minister of Transport Omar Alghabra took to social media to offer an explanation why Canadian governmental leaders are imposing vaccination, testing, and quarantining restrictions on cross-border truckers.

“Keeping our stores stocked and our warehouses full requires truckers on the road not at home sick or in the hospital. That is why we created the vaccine mandate for truckers.”

Further, Alghabra argued “Almost 90%” of Canadian truckers are already jabbed and “More are getting their shot.”

The biggest threat to our supply chain is COVID. Keeping our stores stocked and our warehouses full requires truckers on the road not at home sick or in the hospital.

As Transportation Nation Network reported early this week, a group of truckers and activists are holding a nationwide “Slow roll” protest called the “Freedom Convoy.”

“He doesn’t understand that Canada’s truckers bring him the goods his people need. What is he going to do when he doesn’t have the drivers?”.

Post Idea #27: High-density polyethylene

Related Articles – Summarized

What Is High Density Polyethylene?

As one of the most versatile plastic materials around, HDPE plastic is used in a wide variety of applications, including plastic bottles, milk jugs, shampoo bottles, bleach bottles, cutting boards, and piping.

Known for its outstanding tensile strength and large strength-to-density ratio, HDPE plastic has a high-impact resistance and melting point.

Thanks to a high melting point, HDPE remains rigid until very high temperatures.

Once it’s reached its melting point, the plastic material can be quickly and efficiently molded for use across a variety of unique applications including cutting boards, detergent bottles, milk jugs, food storage containers, corrosion-resistant piping, geomembranes, plastic lumber, and so much more.

Large Strength to Density Ratio The density of HDPE can range from 0.93 to 0.97 g, although the density of HDPE is only marginally higher than LDPE. However, when under the microscope, HDPE’s linear structure means the material has little branching, which offers it stronger intermolecular forces and tensile strength than LDPE. It’s for this reason that a 60-gram HDPE container can safely carry over a gallon of liquid or roughly eight pounds of weight.

HDPE plastic is easily recyclable, helping keep non-biodegradable waste out of landfills, while helping reduce plastic production by up to 50 percent! If you’re looking for a cost-effective, environmentally responsible material, HDPE may be the plastic for you.

Why Use HDPE? HDPE often replaces heavier materials which help companies and individuals alike pursue sustainable and affordable manufacturing and project goals.

Structure, Properties, And Uses

High density polyethylene, often abbreviated to HDPE, is a polymer whose monomer is ethylene.

HDPE is a type of polyethylene, the most common plastic which accounts for over 34% of the global plastic market.

High density polyethylene is a hydrocarbon polymer that can be prepared from ethylene via a catalytic process.

Moldability HDPE retains its rigid structure until its melting point is reached.

The structure of HDPE is linear and it contains very little branching, resulting in stronger intermolecular forces.

The tensile strength of high-density polyethylene is very high – it can withstand heavier loads than most of the other types of polyethylene.

To summarize, high-density polyethylene owes its popularity to its low weight, high tensile strength, high impact resistance, resistance to chemicals and high temperatures, and its ability to be easily molded.

Ontario Plastics

High-Density Polyethylene

With a high strength-to-density ratio, HDPE is used in the production of plastic bottles, corrosion-resistant piping, geomembranes and plastic lumber.

HDPE is known for its high strength-to-density ratio.

Although the density of HDPE is only marginally higher than that of low-density polyethylene, HDPE has little branching, giving it stronger intermolecular forces and tensile strength than LDPE. The difference in strength exceeds the difference in density, giving HDPE a higher specific strength.

The physical properties of HDPE can vary depending on the molding process that is used to manufacture a specific sample; to some degree, a determining factor is the international standardized testing methods employed to identify these properties for a specific process.

Owing to these desirable properties, pipes constructed out of HDPE are ideally applicable for drinking water and waste water.

HDPE is preferred by the pyrotechnics trade for mortars over steel or PVC tubes, being more durable and safer: HDPE tends to rip or tear in a malfunction instead of shattering and becoming shrapnel like the other materials.

Above all, China, where beverage bottles made from HDPE were first imported in 2005, is a growing market for rigid HDPE packaging, as a result of its improving standard of living.

Ball Bearings Supplier

Bearings Direct is a ball bearings supplier with over twenty years of experience in the industry.

Bearings Direct offers a number of miniature ball bearings in both metric and inch sizes that meet ABEC7 precision class.

Double Row Ball Bearings are similar to both precision angular contact and super precision ball bearings in that they can accommodate a combined radial and axial loads.

Bearings Direct supplies double row ball bearings that are open and with shielded or sealed closures.

Self-Aligning Ball Bearings are double-row ball bearings that can adapt to both static and dynamic angular misalignment.

Thrust Ball Bearings are ball bearings that can carry axial loads alone.

Bearings Direct supplies thrust ball bearings that are single row, in both miniature and regular three-piece configurations.

BALL BEARINGS SIZE CHART

Ball bearings are available in all different sizes, depending on the shaft size and requirements of the application.

Bearings are measured by their inner diameter, outer diameter, and width; the size of a bearing is normally listed as such: ID x OD x W. These measurements are normally taken in millimeters, but can be converted to inches.

Ball bearing size charts are widely available, and can be used to find the measurements of a specific bearing.

Bearing size can greatly impact the performance and capabilities of a ball bearing; therefore different sizes are used in different industries.

Generally, smaller ball bearings have more limited load capacities.

Miniature bearings, often constructed as precision ball bearings, are used for extremely small applications, such as medical instrumentation, robotics, or semiconductor equipment.

Use a bearing size chart to find the bearing series number.

Ball Bearing

A ball bearing is a type of rolling-element bearing that uses balls to maintain the separation between the bearing races.

Although bearings had been developed since ancient times, the first modern recorded patent on ball bearings was awarded to Philip Vaughan, a Welsh inventor and ironmaster who created the first design for a ball bearing in Carmarthen in 1794.

Self-aligning ball bearings, such as the Wingqvist bearing shown in the picture, are constructed with the inner ring and ball assembly contained within an outer ring that has a spherical raceway.

Maximum load for not or very slowly rotating bearings is called “Static” maximum load. Also if a bearing is not rotating, oscillating forces on the bearing can cause impact damage to the bearing race or the rolling elements, known as brinelling.

If a bearing is rotating, but experiences heavy load that lasts shorter than one revolution, static max load must be used in computations, since the bearing does not rotate during the maximum load. If a sideways torque is applied to a deep groove radial bearing, an uneven force in the shape of an ellipse is applied on the outer ring by the rolling elements, concentrating in two regions on opposite sides of the outer ring.

In general, maximum load on a ball bearing is proportional to outer diameter of the bearing times the width of the bearing.

For single-row deep-groove ball bearings, SKF’s documentation says that maximum axial load is circa 50% of maximum radial load, but it also says that “Light” and/or “Small” bearings can take axial loads that are 25% of maximum radial load. For single-row edge-contact ball bearings, axial load can be about 2 times max radial load, and for cone-bearings maximum axial load is between 1 and 2 times maximum radial load. Often Conrad-style ball bearings will exhibit contact ellipse truncation under axial load. That means that either the ID of the outer ring is large enough, or the OD of the inner ring is small enough, so as to reduce the area of contact between the balls and raceway.

Analytical Chemistry

Sample preparation, in analytical chemistry, the processes in which a representative piece of material is extracted from a larger amount and readied for analysis.

Sampling and sample preparation have a unique meaning and special importance when applied to the field of analytical chemistry.

Sampling is critically relevant everywhere that analytical chemistry has a role to play.

NGS Sample Preparation: A Step-By-Step Guide

As per BIS Research, the global NGS sample preparation market is projected to reach $3.28 billion by 2026, growing at a CAGR of 14.24% during the forecast period 2021-2026.

The accuracy and efficiency of sample preparation for genomic sequencing are improved with automated NGS sample preparation.

The increasing use of NGS in diagnostic research laboratories has improved the accuracy of genetic diagnoses with high consistency, and this is projected to fuel the development of the NGS sample preparation market.

Significant manufacturers of NGS sample preparation product lines and service providers are actively involved in developing substantial business schemes to translate accomplishment in research and development into the commercial clinical setting, which is pushing the development of the NGS sample preparation market.

Sample preparation refers to procedures involved in converting nucleic acid mixes from biological samples into various types of libraries sequenced using NGS methods.

Every preparation phase is critical and depends on the kind of sample and NGS platform.

Each sample preparation technique begins with this step.

Sample Preparation For NGS

Sample preparation is no longer just the ‘warm up’ for NGS – if any of the processes are done poorly, sequencing will not obtain successful results.

It would be impossible to cover each and every route that could be taken in one guide, but we have compiled a wealth of information about some of the most important aspects of sample preparation for NGS. Join David Smith, Shawn Baker and Tiffany Boughtwood as they discuss how the upcoming shifts within the NGS market could affect genomics research in the future and what impact it may have on healthcare around the world: Exploring the Current Sequencing Landscape.

Step-by-Step Guide of Sample PreparationThe basic sample preparation steps are covered – these are very generalized to cover many types of sequencing.

This guide has been designed to untangle the confusion surrounding the numerous processes and provide an insight into the basic steps needed to perform great sample preparation for NGS! And to read about some of these topics in greater depth, download the Sample Preparation Guide for MPS. It was written by David I Smith and includes information about a variety of sample preparation topics, from the isolation of nucleic acids to generating several different types of NGS libraries.

Sample preparation is essentially the steps that need to be taken to transform mixtures of nucleic acids from biological samples into different types of libraries ready to be sequenced by NGS technologies.

The preparation of a sequencing library is necessary before NGS analysis – a sequencing library is essentially a pool of DNA fragments with adapters attached.

The opportunities that this will provide for biomedical research will be hugely exciting, and at the start of all these processes is sample preparation – no matter what sequencing platform is used or what the applications of the sequencing are, sample preparation remains at the forefront of every such successful experiment.

Sample Preparation

In analytical chemistry, sample preparation refers to the ways in which a sample is treated prior to its analyses.

Preparation is a very important step in most analytical techniques, because the techniques are often not responsive to the analyte in its in-situ form, or the results are distorted by interfering species.

Sample preparation may involve dissolution, extraction, reaction with some chemical species, pulverizing, treatment with a chelating agent, masking, filtering, dilution, sub-sampling or many other techniques.

Treatment is done to prepare the sample into a form ready for analysis by specified analytical equipment.

Sample preparation could involve: crushing and dissolution, chemical digestion with acid or alkali, sample extraction, sample clean up and sample pre-concentration.

See Inside The Biggest Modern Home In The US, A 105,000-Square-Foot Los Angeles Megamansion That Just Fetched $126 Million At Auction

The One Bel Air is a 105,000-square-foot megamansion said to be the biggest modern home in the US. It’s pending sale for $141 million, including fees and commission, following an auction – far from the $500 million its developer originally hoped to fetch.

A sprawling Los Angeles megamansion believed to be the biggest modern home in the US just fetched $126 million at auction.

The auction site calls the 105,000-square-foot home “America’s most expensive and largest residence.”

It listed for $295 million in January, already a sharp discount from the $500 million Niami hoped to get for the home.

When no buyers bit, the home went into bankruptcy auction.

Though the top bid for the home was $126 million, the auction premium and commission fees will bring the total to $141 million.

Concierge Auctions says the pending sale is “More than double the highest US sale at auction and nearly 50% higher than the world record.”

Nile Niami is an American former film producer turned real estate developer, who has built and sold multi-million dollar mansions in the Los Angeles neighborhoods of Bel Air and Holmby Hills.

Niami was born in circa 1968 in Los Angeles, California.

As a real estate developer in Los Angeles, Niami built a mansion in Holmby Hills which he sold to a Saudi buyer for US$44 million.

Niami launched Wolfpack, a mobile app for single men looking for friends; it is no longer available.

Niami’s recently-finished mega-mansion in Bel-Air, “The One”, was also designed by Paul McClean.

In March 2021, Niami’s LLC, Crestlloyd, defaulted on US$165 million in debt related to the property, causing it to enter receivership.

In July 2021, the 3.8-acre property was placed in court-ordered receivership by Los Angeles County Superior Court.

Bel-Air Megamansion Once Listed At $295 Million Sells For A Fraction Of Price – Daily News

A back-and-forth bidding war between unnamed parties closed Thursday when Nile Niami’s gargantuan megamansion, dubbed “The One,” sold at auction for $126 million.

An additional 12% buyer’s premium brings the purchase price to just over $141 million, about 52% less than the $295 million sought in January but set a world record for the most expensive home sold at auction.

It handled the online event in cooperation with Aaron Kirman of the Aaron Kirman Group at Compass and Branden and Rayni Williams of Williams & Williams at The Beverly Hills Estates.

Perched high above Los Angeles on nearly 4 acres, Niami planned to list the 105,000-square-foot home he dreamed up in partnership with Orange-based architect Paul McClean for $500 million.

The grounds also include a putting green, tennis court and 400-foot running track.

Niami’s development company Crestlloyd LLC went into the bankruptcy auction owing more than $180 million to multiple lenders, some of which will now take a loss.

They were “Very aligned that the right thing to do is to get this property sold quickly and efficiently,” Roffers told Southern California News Group in the month leading up to the auction.

America’S Biggest New Mansion Auctions For $141 Million

A 105,000-square-foot Los Angeles megamansion that was listed for $295 million sold at a bankruptcy auction for $141 million, ending a 10-year saga of soaring debt and failed dreams.

The auction for the property, known as “The One,” ended Thursday night with the highest bid at $126 million.

Including the buyer’s premium, the final sale price will be $141 million, according to Laura Brady, CEO of Concierge Auctions, which auctioned the home.

The price makes it the third-most expensive home ever sold in Los Angeles, behind Marc Andreessen’s $177 million purchase last year of a Malibu compound and Jeff Bezos’ purchase of the former Jack Warner Estate in Beverly Hills for $165 million.

The One is also the most expensive home ever sold at auction in the U.S. and the world – far surpassing the $51 million price for a home auctioned last year in Beverly Park.

The biggest lender was Los Angeles subprime lending magnate Don Hankey, who loaned more than $125 million to the project.

Net Worth, Wife, House, ‘The One’

Later, entrepreneurs Winklevoss twins Cameron and Tyler bought Niami’s one of the contemporary view houses for $18 million in 2012.

Designed by architect Paul McClean and developed by Niami, the property also offered nearly $12 million worth of Lamborghinis, Rolls-Royces, and Damien Hirst paintings.

In 2021, Niami also sold a 24,000-square-foot mansion overlooking different portions of Bel Air Country Club for $36 million, which he originally listed for $65 million.

Niami gained massive popularity when he started constructing a 100,000-square-foot megamansion dubbed “The One” in Bel Air, which he listed on the real estate market for $500 million.

Niami bought the property in late 2012 for $28 million from now-deceased video game heiress Rita Kogan.

According to the report, Niami borrowed $82 million from Hankey Capital in 2018 to build the megamansion, but his debt soared to more than $110 over the three years.

Niami has a net worth of $50 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth, as of August 2021.

The Battle Over Nile Niami’S Mansion ‘The One’

For years, real estate developer Nile Niami has teased “The One” – a 105,000-square-foot mansion in Bel Air – which he hoped to one-day sell for $500 million.

What You Need To Know For years, real estate developer Nile Niami has teased “The one” – a 105,000-square-foot mansion in Bel Air – that he hoped to one day sell for $500 million.

Niami told The Times he thinks the $225 million asking price is far too low and still hopes he can make his events idea come to fruition.

“The only thing larger with two homes built over 100 years ago is the Biltmore mansion in North Carolina. You are talking about a large house, and you have a huge fight because, at one point, that house was being marketed for $500 million. When there’s that much money flying around, the lawyers are going to get involved,” Darmiento said.

Nile Niami has been in the business of developing these mega-mansions, but Darmiento said he is in trouble with this one.

“Don now says Nile ended up borrowing $106 million from Don. He borrowed $30 million for this house from Joe. And so, when Nile couldn’t pay, Don filed a notice of foreclosure and also filed for foreclosure lawsuit and set a trustee sale, which is like a court auction for July,” Darmiento said.

“It certainly can go for less than $200 million. The receiver, who has been charged by the court with completing the house, there’s like $5 million of projects that need to be completed. He said the total debt is about $165. So basically, in order to pay off all the debt holders, you’ve got to get $165 before Nile Niami and his ex-wife Yvonne, who established the holding company that actually owns the house, didn’t get a penny.”

After the conclusion of the 1997 Formula One Season, Yamaha decided to pull out of the sport, a possible reason for this was due to a disagreement with Arrows regarding the 1998 engine’s identification, Yamaha wished to carry out work on the engine with their engineers while Arrows wished for their own engineers to work on the engine instead while still having it badged as a Yamaha engine.

Post Idea #35: Radiopharmaceutical

Additional information See Annex for terminology applied to radiopharmaceuticals Shelf-life The shelf-life of a radiopharmaceutical preparation depends primarily on the physical half-life of the radioisotope, the radiochemical stability and the content of longer-lived radionuclidic impurities in the preparation under consideration.

Technetium based preparations and positron emission tomography preparations are normally intended to be used within less than12 hours of preparation.

Definition Radiopharmaceuticals can be divided into four categories: Radiopharmaceutical preparation A radiopharmaceutical preparation is a medicinal product in a ready-to-use form suitable for human use that contains a radionuclide.

Kit for radiopharmaceutical preparation In general a vial containing the nonradionuclide components of a radiopharmaceutical preparation , usually in the form of a sterilized, validated product to which the appropriate radionuclide is added or in which the appropriate radionuclide is diluted before medical use.

Radiopharmaceutical preparations derived from kits are normally intended for use within 12 hours of preparation.

Production of Radiopharmaceutical preparation Radiopharmaceutical preparations may contain the types of excipients permitted by the general monograph for the relevant the dosage form.

262/FINAL page 9 a statement that the product is radioactive or the international symbol for radioactivity the name of the radiopharmaceutical preparation; where appropriate, that the preparation is for diagnostic or for therapeutic use; the route of administration; the total radioactivity present at a stated date and, where necessary, time; for solutions, a statement of the radioactivity in a suitable volume may be given instead; the expiry date and, where necessary, time; the batch number assigned by the manufacturer; for solutions, the total volume.

Radiopharmaceuticals Emerging As New Cancer Therapy

Targeted therapies shut down specific proteins in cancer cells that help them grow, divide, and spread. Immunotherapies stimulate or suppress the body’s immune system to help fight cancer.

Even with modern radiation therapy equipment, “You have to [hit] normal tissue to get to a tumor,” said Charles Kunos, M.D., Ph.D., of NCI’s Cancer Therapy Evaluation Program.

Now, researchers are developing a new class of drugs called radiopharmaceuticals, which deliver radiation therapy directly and specifically to cancer cells.

A similar natural affinity was later exploited to develop drugs to treat cancer that has spread to the bones, such as radium 223 dichloride, which was approved in 2013 to treat metastatic prostate cancer.

Several drugs called antibody-drug conjugates, in which an antibody that binds to specific cancer cells is linked to a toxic drug, have been approved for treating cancer.

Specialized cameras can then reveal even tiny deposits of cancer cells, helping to measure the spread of cancer through the body.

Some researchers are now testing radiopharmaceuticals combined with radiation sensitizers-drugs that make cancer cells even more vulnerable to radiation.

Radiopharmaceuticals

The adverse reactions and types of radiopharmaceuticals are shown in Table 1.Another study was undertaken to determine the prevalence of adverse reactions to positron-emitting radiopharmaceuticals through a prospective 4-year study in 22 institutions.

Analytical methods used for quality control of radiopharmaceuticals and animal studies with radiopharmaceuticals will be covered in separate chapters.

Each of these radiopharmaceuticals is targeted to measuring a specific biologic process, and therefore what is measured depends directly on which radiopharmaceutical is administered to the patient.

Table 5-5.Most radiopharmaceuticals are used in conjunction with imaging systems that can determine the location of the radiopharmaceutical within the body.

Their availability, use and commercial distribution of the radiopharmaceutical itself is regulated by the marketing authorization process, allowing companies to produce and provide radiopharmaceuticals for clinical application.

General aspects of radiopharmaceutical regulations: Left: regulatory framework for radiopharmaceuticals in general, right: aspects of regulations of radiopharmaceuticals and in which topic they are covered.

The term “Conventional radiopharmacy” describes the field of radiopharmacy that deals with the use of radiopharmaceuticals for single-photon emission computed tomography and for radionuclide therapy, on one hand, and the premises for preparation and quality control of such radiopharmaceuticals on the other.

FAQs: Radiopharmaceuticals

What QC testing is required for RP preparation, preparation with minor deviations, and compounding?

Section 10 Preparation states, “The individual responsible for preparing the radiopharmaceutical(s) must ensure that the final preparation complies with quality and purity specifications throughout the assigned BUD.” Section 10.2 Preparation with Minor Deviations further states, “This requires appropriate inhouse QC testing, designed to validate the radiochemical purity of the product for the entirety of the BUD or is supported by appropriate peer-reviewed publication for the minor deviation utilized.”

Section 11.2 Sterile Compounding states, “In some cases, this may require systematic QC testing over time to validate the appropriateness of a particular BUD.” In regard to kitsplitting or fractionation of a conventionally manufactured vial the chapter states, “Systematic QC testing is required to validate the appropriateness of a particular BUD.”.

Section 11.3 Sterile Compounding Using a Nonsterile Drug Substance or Components states, “a sterilization procedure and testing described in <85> must be performed. The designated person for compounding is responsible for ensuring that the final preparation complies with pre-established standards or acceptance criteria for identity, quality, and purity, and must consider all possible interactions between the components such as altered chemical stability, radiochemical stability, solubility,or other parametersin determining the BUD. This may require testing to validate the appropriateness of a particular BUD.”.

Iodine-123 is preferred for imaging, so I-125 is used diagnostically only when the test requires a longer period to prepare the radiopharmaceutical and trace it, such as a fibrinogen scan to diagnose clotting.

Active transport involves the use of biological mechanisms that selectively uptake the radiopharmaceutical into a cell against a concentration gradient.

That is, active transport requires cellular components which transport the drug from areas of low concentration to areas of high concentration.

I-123 is commonly used to assess the structure and function of the thyroid gland.

Iodine is actively transported into the thyroid gland, where a process termed the organification of iodine allows for the incorporation of iodine into thyroid hormones.

F-18 FDG is a glucose analog that concentrates in highly active cells using glucose for energy.

F-18 FDG is useful for imaging active areas of cancer growth.

The FDG is actively transported across the cell membrane, along with glucose, to fuel the cell’s elevated activity levels.

B. Safety Pharmacology Stand-alone studies to assess the pharmaceutical’s effect on vital organ functions generally are not warranted to initiate a study in patients with cancer or for approval.

Distribution of radioactivity into the central nervous system can indicate the potential for anatomic and functional neurological deficits resulting from radiation-induced vascular abnormalities, demyelination, and necrosis in the CNS. IV. ANIMAL BIODISTRIBUTION AND DOSIMETRY The sponsor should conduct a biodistribution and dosimetry study in animals to guide dose selection for the human biodistribution and dosimetry study.

The design of an animal biodistribution study should incorporate aspects of the planned clinical biodistribution and dosimetry study that might affect distribution of the product.

Generally, no toxicity studies are warranted before a FIH study when the radiopharmaceutical is a neat radionuclide.

Unless otherwise justified, the species selected for toxicology study should be the same as the species used for animal biodistribution and dosimetry study.

B. Genotoxicity, Reproductive Toxicology, and Carcinogenicity Studies No genetic or reproductive toxicity or carcinogenicity study with the radiopharmaceutical or the cold pharmaceutical is warranted during drug development or for approval.

Results from general toxicology studies or other nonclinical studies conducted with the cold pharmaceutical can be used to define the appropriate FIH mass dose, according to principles described in ICH S9 and ICH guidance for industry S9 Nonclinical Evaluation for Anticancer Pharmaceuticals Questions and Answers.
