St. John Ambulance BC and Yukon has launched a campaign to save more lives from sudden cardiac arrest.
SJA explains the stands are kept unlocked to ensure the public can access an AED on a 24/7 basis in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest, a medical emergency that takes up to 40,000 Canadian lives each year.
“Bystander use of an AED, along with CPR, increases the chance of survival of sudden cardiac arrest upwards of 75 per cent. Despite this, AEDs in BC aren’t always readily available or accessible. This is why Start Me Up BC was developed,” said SJA spokesperson and ‘Start Me Up BC’ campaign lead Leanne Strachan.
“We believe that through this campaign, more communities will recognize their role in saving lives from emergencies like sudden cardiac arrest and be empowered to take action.”
Outside of housing an AED, every stand is set to include first-aid and naloxone kits for more resources and awareness for a number of emergency situations, such as an opioid overdose.
“Whether it’s a sudden cardiac arrest, head injury, or a sprain, we want to provide as many tools as possible and the reassurance needed to help anyone step in as a bystander with our stands,” said Ken Leggatt, interim CEO for SJA BC and Yukon.

Delta, BC 10:00 a.m. – Today, the Advanced Coronary Treatment Foundation, and its supporting partners will officially launch the ACT High School CPR and Defibrillator Program in the seven public secondary schools of School District No. 37 Delta.
The media event will be held at the Sands Secondary School, 10840 – 82 Avenue, Delta, BC, V4C 2B3. The ACT Foundation is the charitable organization that is establishing free CPR and defibrillator training programs in high schools throughout BC and across Canada.
ACT is working in partnership with BC Emergency Health Services paramedics and staff, lead community partner RBC, and health partners AstraZeneca Canada, Pfizer Canada and Sanofi Canada to bring this program to Delta School District secondary schools.
Funding will see participating secondary schools receive training equipment to enable teachers to train students including Automated External Defibrillator training units, AED training mannequins, and program set-up that will see all students graduate with the skills and knowledge to save lives.

Aircraft Landing Gear Types
Aircraft landing gear supports the entire weight of an aircraft during landing and ground operations.

In 1999, BiTMICRO made a number of introductions and announcements about flash-based SSDs, including an 18 GB 3.5-inch SSD. Dell began to offer optional 256 GB solid state drives on select notebook models in January 2009.
In May 2009, Toshiba launched a laptop with a 512 GB SSD. Since October 2010, Apple’s MacBook Air line has used a solid state drive as standard.

The rise of another type of digital currency has gotten far less attention: central bank digital currencies.
According to a survey by the Bank for International Settlements, countries representing one-fifth of the world’s population may well issue a digital currency in the next few years.
In a CBDC world, “People would use the dollar less,” predicted Michael Sung, a professor at Shanghai’s Fudan University who researches digital currencies, in an interview with me.
Digital currencies can be programmed to be spent in a certain way – say for food and medical supplies, but not for cigarettes or alcohol.
The US could help set the standard by developing a digital currency that has privacy at its core.
“If this is going to be the tech of the future, we want to make sure the US brings democratic values to bear,” Chris Giancarlo, co-founder of the Digital Dollar Project, said in an interview with me.
Nor should it intend to replace non-government digital currencies like Bitcoin, dollar-pegged stablecoins or other cryptocurrencies that allow for more private transactions.
