Injection Moulding

Advances in 3D printing technology, using photopolymers that do not melt during the injection moulding of some lower-temperature thermoplastics, can be used for some simple injection moulds.

Injection moulding uses a special-purpose machine that has three parts: the injection unit, the mould and the clamp.

Injection moulding consists of the high pressure injection of the raw material into a mould, which shapes the polymer into the desired form.

Plastic resin enters the mould through a sprue or gate in the injection mould; the sprue bushing is to seal tightly against the nozzle of the injection barrel of the moulding machine and to allow molten plastic to flow from the barrel into the mould, also known as the cavity.

Two-shot or multi-shot moulds are designed to “Overmould” within a single moulding cycle and must be processed on specialised injection moulding machines with two or more injection units.

Rubber injection moulding process produces a high yield of durable products, making it the most efficient and cost-effective method of moulding.

The sequence of events during the injection mould of a plastic part is called the injection moulding cycle.

Definition, Types And Materials

Injection moulding materials include metals, glasses, elastomers and confections, although it is most commonly used with thermoplastic and thermosetting polymers.

Separate materials can be combined in one part in a type of injection moulding called a two-shot mould.

The injection moulding process requires careful design, including the shape and features of the part, the materials for the part and the mould and the properties of the moulding machine.

Injection moulding can be performed with a variety of different materials including metals, glass, elastomers, confections and, most commonly, thermoplastic and thermosetting polymers.

Injection moulding is becoming more environmentally friendly as machinery becomes more efficient and materials such as thermosetting polymers are capable of withstanding extreme temperatures and conditions.

Of these costs, materials and parts equal around 15-30% of the total and process and profit equal 30-50%. Bearing these factors in mind, a small single cavity injection mould costs between $1,000 and $5,000.

Providing the ability to produce near-identical parts, injection moulding is used for parts in a variety of material types.

The Process Of Injection Moulding Explained

Injection moulding is a manufacturing process used to produce single parts and products using various materials, most commonly thermosetting and thermoplastic polymers.

Today, injection moulding is the most popular method of manufacturing parts and is used to produce a variety of everyday plastic products, including packaging, toys, telephones, bottle lids, chairs and many more.

An injection moulding machine consists of a material hopper, a plunger and a heating barrel.

The machine works to exert pressure and secure the mould in place during the injection process, and the type of machine that is used will be determined by the type of part being moulded and the material being used.

As well as the aforementioned process, there are various other injection moulding procedures, including metal injection moulding, die casting, thin-wall injection moulding and silicone rubber injection moulding.

There are a number of reasons as to why injection moulding is one of the most popular modern manufacturing techniques.

Whilst the initial cost of injection moulding may be high, the ability for mass production is extremely cost-efficient way to manufacture goods.

The Outline Of Injection Molding

Injection molding machine is divided into 2 units i.e. a clamping unit and an injection unit.

The functions of the injection unit are to melt plastic by heat and then to inject molten plastic into a mold.

The screw is rotated to melt plastic introduced from the hopper and to accumulate molten plastic in front of the screw.

After the required amount of molten plastic is accumulated, injection process is stared.

While molten plastic is flowing in a mold, the machine controls the moving speed of the screw, or injection speed.

On the other hand, it controls dwell pressure after molten plastic fills out cavities.

The position of change from speed control to pressure control is set at the point where either screw position or injection pressure reaches a certain fixed value.

What Is Injection Molding?

Due to the resemblance to the process of injecting fluids using a syringe, this process is called injection molding.

Injection molding is used to manufacture commodities and products in a wide range of industries.

Injection molding machines come in different types, such as motorized machines driven by servo motors, hydraulic machines driven by hydraulic motors, and hybrid machines driven by a combination of a servo motor and a hydraulic motor.

The structure of an injection molding machine can be briefly summarized as consisting of an injection unit that sends the melted materials into the mold, and a clamping unit that operates the mold.

In recent years, the use of CNC has been increasingly adopted in injection molding machines, giving rise to the popularity of models that enable high-speed injection under programmed control.

Injection molding begins with resin pellets being poured into the hopper, the entry point for the material.

While injection molding is suitable for mass production, it is essential to have a good understanding of the various conditions required to produce high-precision products, which include the selection of resin material, the processing precision of the mold, and the temperature and speed of the melt injection.

Information On Swine/Variant Influenza

Swine influenza is a respiratory disease of pigs caused by type A influenza viruses that regularly cause outbreaks of influenza in pigs.

Influenza viruses that commonly circulate in swine are called “Swine influenza viruses” or “Swine flu viruses.” Like human influenza viruses, there are different subtypes and strains of swine influenza viruses.

The main swine influenza viruses circulating in U.S. pigs in recent years have been, swine triple reassortant H1N1 influenza virus, trH3N2 virus, and trH1N2 virus.

Symptoms And Causes

Symptoms of the H1N1 flu are the same as those of the seasonal flu.

The H1N1 flu virus strain is included in the seasonal flu vaccine, including the vaccine for 2020-21.Products & Services Symptoms.

Flu symptoms develop about one to three days after you’re exposed to the virus.

Call your doctor if you have flu symptoms and you’re pregnant or you have a chronic disease, such as asthma, emphysema, diabetes or a heart condition, because you have a higher risk of flu complications.

If you have emergency signs and symptoms of the flu, get medical care right away.

Flu vaccination is especially important in the 2020-21 flu season because the flu and coronavirus disease 2019 cause similar symptoms.

Flu vaccination could reduce symptoms that might be confused with those caused by COVID-19.

Swine Influenza

Swine influenza is an infection caused by any of several types of swine influenza viruses.

Swine influenza virus or swine-origin influenza virus is any strain of the influenza family of viruses that is endemic in pigs.

As of 2009, the known SIV strains include influenza C and the subtypes of influenza A known as H1N1, H1N2, H2N1, H3N1, H3N2, and H2N3. Swine influenza virus is common throughout pig populations worldwide.

Because these symptoms are not specific to swine flu, a differential diagnosis of probable swine flu requires not only symptoms, but also a high likelihood of swine flu due to the person’s recent and past medical history.

During the 2009 swine flu outbreak in the United States, the CDC advised physicians to “Consider swine influenza infection in the differential diagnosis of patients with acute febrile respiratory illness who have either been in contact with persons with confirmed swine flu, or who were in one of the five U.S. states that have reported swine flu cases or in Mexico during the seven days preceding their illness onset.” A diagnosis of confirmed swine flu requires laboratory testing of a respiratory sample.

Swine influenza is caused by influenza A subtypes H1N1, H1N2, H2N3, H3N1, and H3N2. In pigs, four influenza A virus subtypes are the most common strains worldwide.

Around 1979, the avian H1N1 strain infected pigs and gave rise to Euroasiatic swine flu and H1N1 Euroasiatic swine virus, which is still being transmitted in swine populations.

Swine Influenza – Swine Diseases

Swine Influenza Virus is one of the leading causes of severe respiratory diseases in pigs.

Influenza is evolving to become a year-round disease, mainly due to the increased size of the swine facilities.

The lungs are the most affected organ by swine influenza.

Clinical diagnosis of swine influenza is impaired by the nonspecific clinical signs.

Because of influenza zoonotic nature, it is frequently asked of farm hands to get annually vaccinated against influenza to avoid transmission.

In swine dense areas, the eradication of swine influenza is extremely difficult due to the chances of reinfection.

What is the best test to diagnose swine influenza in an individual clinical pig?

What Is Influenza A Virus In Swine

Influenza viruses are common in swine, usually causing a high rate of infection but few deaths.

Animals typically begin getting sick 1-3 days after being infected with the virus.

Symptoms may include coughing or barking, sneezing, high fever, difficulty breathing, runny nose, not eating, or not wanting to get up and move around.

If you see any of these signs in your pigs, try to isolate the sick animal(s) from the rest of the herd, provide supportive care, and contact your veterinarian.

H1N1 Influenza

H1N1 Swine flu is a subtype of influenza A virus, which causes upper, and potentially, lower respiratory tract infections in the host it infects, resulting in symptoms such as nasal secretions, chills, fever, decreased appetite, and possibly lower respiratory tract disease.

H1N1 swine influenza is a common infection in pigs worldwide, and that is why it is also known as swine flu.

The H1N1 swine influenza viruses can potentially cause infections in humans if antigenic characteristics of the virus change.

In 2009, the pandemic which started in Mexico with the H1N1 strain displayed a combination of segments of 4 different influenza viruses: pig-origin flu North American avian, bird-origin flu of the human influenza strain, North American swine, and Eurasian swine.

The potential retention of influenza virus strains in swine after these strains have disappeared in the human population, essentially make pigs a reservoir where swine influenza viruses could persist, and later emerge to reinfect humans once their immunity to these strains has waned.

According to the CDC, the signs and symptoms in humans infected with the 2009 H1N1 swine flu were similar to those of influenza.

Another concern is that the neuraminidase and hemagglutinin of some swine influenza viruses originated from human influenza viruses, to which people could have already been exposed.

Swine Influenza

Outdoor-reared pigs are vulnerable to swine influenza and lungworm larvae can harbour the virus.

Biosecurity – the key to stopping disease spread. Influenza in all mammalian species is caused by specific viruses that have the ability both to jump species and recombine to produce new strains that can then affect one or more species.

Over the last year or so, a new strain of influenza has emerged in people – initially in Mexico but now worldwide – which has been referred to in the popular press as ‘swine flu’, although it is categorised as Influenza A H1N1 09v. Whilst WHO declared it a pandemic of influenza in people in June 2009, the virus has not been derived directly from pigs and in fact has shown the ability to operate as a reverse zoonosis – pigs have become infected from people.

Prior to 1985, swine influenza in pigs had not been seen clinically in the UK although subsequently investigation have shown that one specific strain – also derived from human beings – has been present in the pig population since 1968.

The limited experience so far with infection in pigs with the new Influenza A H1N1 09v human strain suggests that disease in pigs is at the milder end of the spectrum for influenza in pigs – highlighting the variation between strains.

Vaccines for influenza in pigs are not available in the UK although some are used in the EU and US. It is unlikely that any existing SI vaccines would prove effective at preventing clinical disease due to the human H1N1 09v strain.

Treatment There is no treatment available for influenza being a viral disease and in the absence of secondary infection, none is needed.

A remittance is a payment of money that is transferred to another party.

Broadly speaking, any payment of an invoice or a bill can be called a remittance.

The most common way of making a remittance is by using an electronic payment system through a bank or a money transfer service such as Western Union.

According to the World Bank’s 2019 Migration and Development Brief, $529 billion in remittances were sent to low- and middle-income countries in 2018-an increase of 9.6% over the previous record high of $483 billion in 2017.

Including high-income countries, the total amount of remittances jumps to $689 billion, up from $633 billion in 2017.

To promote transparency, some countries limit remittances to bank wires, but banks are the most expensive transfer channel, and wires are particularly among the highest, according to the World Bank.

The methodology countries use to record the amount of money people receive via remittances is rarely made public.

What Is Remittance?

Most remittance transactions are sent by wire transfer electronic transfer is common as well.

There are many options for wire transfers, though popular choices are Western Union and Society for Worldwide International Financial Telecommunication.

Remittance senders must ensure their bank works with the same transfer companies as the recipient’s bank.

On occasion, the recipient’s bank cannot directly receive a transfer.

An alternative to the wire transfer is an electronic funds transfer.

EFTs are done through phone and tablet apps and internet sites through a computer network, eliminating the paperwork that a wire transfer or other payment methods may require.

Money transfer services may have lower rates and faster transfer times, depending on the service you choose and the countries involved in the transaction.

Although the remittance market share has diversified since the advent of money transfer “Fintech” during the 2010s, Western Union continues to dominate the majority of the remittance market share.

In 2017, Russia had the largest remittance flows to Armenia, around 60.5% of overall remittances.

The Remittance Prices Worldwide Database provides data on sending and receiving remittances for over 200 “Country corridors” worldwide.

The “Corridors” examined include remittance flows from 32 major sending countries to 89 receiving countries, which account for more than 60% of total remittances to developing countries.

A 2010 world survey of central banks found significant differences in the quality of remittance data collection across countries: some central banks only used remittances data reported from commercial banks, neglecting to account for remittance flows via money transfer operators and post offices.

World Bank economists contend that remittance receivers’ higher propensity to own a bank account means that remittances can promote access to financial services for the sender and recipient, claimed to be an essential aspect of leveraging remittances to promote economic development.

In Armenia, which has one of the highest remittance to GDP ratios, studies suggest that those households which receive remittances have a higher propensity to save as opposed to some theoretic frameworks, these savings are not used to leverage borrowing more from the financial system as a way to grow their businesses.

Summit County Recognizes GOJO’S 75th Anniversary

AKRON, Ohio – Summit County has declared Feb. 28, 2022 as GOJO Day to honor the leading global producer of hygiene products that has called the county home since it was created in 1946.

Summit County Executive Ilene Shapiro and county council said the declaration was a way to recognize the company’s contributions not only in Summit County, but to the world as its most recognizable product, hand sanitizer, became a sought-after product at the onset of the pandemic.

The company told News 5 in October 2021 that in the company’s 75-year history, it never saw anything like the first two years of the pandemic.

The demand for the company’s hand sanitizer and soaps exploded as the COVID-19 pandemic took hold across the world.

“We are a humble Akron company and the limelight is not a place that we had spent a lot of time- and frankly a place that we were all that comfortable- before the pandemic,” said President and CEO Carey Jaros.

Shapiro also praised the company’s support of several Akron charities, including the American Heart Association, United Way of Summit and Medina and the Portage Lakes Polar Bear Jump.

In 2004, Gojo sold Pfizer the exclusive rights to distribute Purell in the consumer market, while Gojo Industries retained the rights to existing industrial markets.

On June 6, 2015, Gojo launched its Gojo Smartlink Observation System, a mobile application that connects to Gojo Smartlink web-based software and allows for the electronic collection and collation of hand hygiene and personal protective equipment compliance metrics.

Goodyear Tire And Rubber Company

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company is an American multinational tire manufacturing company founded in 1898 by Frank Seiberling and based in Akron, Ohio.

Goodyear Aerospace, a holding that developed from the Goodyear Aircraft Company after World War II, designed a supercomputer for NASA’s Goddard Spaceflight Center in 1979, the MPP. The subsidiary was sold in 1987 to the Loral Corp. as a result of restructuring.

“In the 1980s, incoming Goodyear CEO Robert E. Mercer argued that the tire and automobile-related businesses that formed the core of Goodyear to that date were slow growing and a handicap. He set a strategy”to get away from the cyclical nature of the automobile business” through mergers or purchase of businesses unrelated to tires or vehicles.

In 2005, Titan Tire purchased the farm tire business of Goodyear, and manufactures Goodyear agricultural tires under license.

Goodyear announced plans to sell the assets of its Latin American off-road tire business to Titan Tire for US$98.

At the same time, Goodyear also announced that it was ending its distribution relationship with American Tire Distributors, which used to be the largest tire wholesaler in the US. In 2018, Goodyear was ordered to pay $40.1 million to J. Walter Twidwell, who claimed he developed mesothelioma because of exposure to asbestos.

In February 2021, Goodyear announced that it will acquire the Cooper Tire & Rubber Company for $2.5 billion.

Goodyear Tire And Rubber Company

Goodyear originally employed thirteen workers, but the firm quickly emerged as a leader in the production of rubber items, including bicycle tires, pneumatic carriage and automobile tires, horseshoes, and hoses.

David Hill, who purchased nearly one-third of the 100,000 dollars worth of stock that the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company issued in 1898, became the company’s first president.

Seiberling personally developed the company’s logo – a winged foot – the same logo that the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company utilizes in the twenty-first century.

While the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company prospered, its workers sometimes suffered.

This was true for the workers employed by rubber manufacturers in Akron, Ohio, such the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, B.F. Goodrich, and Firestone Tire and Rubber Company.

In the long term, the rubber companies were forced to recognize the United Rubber Workers and negotiate better contracts with workers.

In 2003, the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company sold more than thirteen billion dollars worth of products.

U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association

Founded in 1898 in Akron, Ohio, Goodyear is one of the world’s largest tire companies.

Goodyear employs approximately 66,000 associates and manufactures its products in 48 facilities in 21 countries around the world.

Its two Innovation Centers in Akron, Ohio, and Colmar-Berg, Luxembourg, strive to develop state-of-the-art products and services that set the technology and performance standards for the industry.

Goodyear manufacturers tires for the consumer, commercial truck, aviation and OTR markets.

Through its iconic Goodyear Blimp program, Goodyear also operates the world’s best-known fleet of airships, which have been covering leading U.S. sporting events for more than 60 years.

Bridgestone Bets Millions On Durham Startup

From a tiny Duke University engineering lab to a strategic investment by tire giant Bridgestone Corp., Durham technology firm Tyrata has come a long way.

Bridgestone is one of “a number of major tire suppliers” the firm has been working with since its inception, he said.

Tyrata’s technology measures tire tread, collecting wear data to provide actionable analytics to fleet management companies.

For the past two years, it’s been working with Durham to help it manage the tire wear of its bus fleet.

Fleet firms are the target, but a future phase for the company could be the consumer market.

Sensors can accurately read tread depths and find irregular wear patterns so users can optimize the life of their tires.

In a statement, Brian Goldstine, president of mobility solutions at Bridgestone Americas, said the partnership “Will allow us to strengthen and expand our portfolio of tire management solutions to fleets of all sizes as we work toward a safer, more efficient and more sustainable mobility future.”

The company said it is still attempting to get its systems back online “In a safe and secure manner” while continuing to investigate, according to a release from Bridgestone Americas headquarters Thursday afternoon.

Bias tires owned the road until the ’70s, when radial tires, game-changers in tire technology were introduced.

In bias tires, the plies are diagonal, making the tires’ walls less flexible and hindering performance.

With radial tires, the plies start at the center and run radially from bead to bead around the tire.

Because their plies run radially from bead to bead around the tire instead of diagonally, radial tires are more flexible – giving you a more comfortable ride.

Radial tires provide more stability and less vibration.

Radial tires contain bead filler that allows the vehicle to handle better on the road. Although vehicle owners can still purchase bias tires, radial tires have proven to be much safer and more comfortable option.

Radial Tire

A radial tire is a particular design of vehicular tire.

The first radial tire designs were patented in 1914 by G.H. Hamilton and T. Sloper -patent n° 467 filed in London, and in 1916 by Arthur W. Savage, a tire manufacturer, firearm designer and inventor in San Diego, CA – U.S. Patent 1,203,910.

In 1970, Ford Motor Company produced the first American-made vehicle with radial tires as standard equipment, Michelin tires fitted to the Continental Mark III. In 1974, Charles J. Pilliod, Jr., the new CEO of Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, faced a major investment decision regarding retooling for the radial tire, following the 1973 oil crisis.

Today, only Goodyear, Cooper, Titan and Specialty Tires of America remain independent among US tire manufacturers, and the radial has practically replaced all other construction methods for automobile tires on the market.

In 1974, Pirelli developed the wide radial tire on a request of the Lancia rally racing team for a tire to handle the power of the new Lancia Stratos and in the succeeding year, Pirelli introduced a wide tire with a reduced sidewall height like a slick, but with a radial construction for the Monte Carlo Rally winning works Stratos.

With only radial cords, a radial tire would not be sufficiently rigid at the contact with the ground.

Reduction in tire replacement due to less heat generated by the tire.

The term ‘radial and non radial tires’ also applies to earth-moving tires.

Tires worked for a long time utilized a bias or crossed employ outline which was cheap and solid, and was extremely lenient of minor defects and varieties in the lay out or situating of the tire strengthening material however the inclination handle configuration additionally brought about the tread of the tire “Crabbing” or “Squirming” as the tire upheld the heaviness of the vehicle was disseminated over the tread as the tire turned.

Outspread tires, as the name suggests, use a symmetrical spiral example for the base tire ply’s, this outline requires a considerably more elevated amount of value control and plan figurings than the inclination handle does however at a huge change in both diminished moving resistance and in decrease of the crabbing and this outcomes in enhanced control in cornering and better lessened footing execution.

Disadvantages of radial tires: The harder tread generates more noise.

Disadvantages of diagonal tires: Rolling resistance causes the tire to heat up very quickly; which ultimately deteriorates tire’s condition.

These are some of the major differences between radial and non radial tires.
