Outsourcing Definition

Outsourcing is the business practice of hiring a party outside a company to perform services or create goods that were traditionally performed in-house by the company’s own employees and staff.

Outsourcing is a practice usually undertaken by companies as a cost-cutting measure.

The outside organizations typically set up different compensation structures with their employees than the outsourcing company, enabling them to complete the work for less money.

In addition to cost savings, companies can employ an outsourcing strategy to better focus on the core aspects of the business.

Outsourcing internationally can help companies benefit from the differences in labor and production costs among countries.

First seen as a formal business strategy in 1989, outsourcing is the process of hiring third parties to conduct services that were typically performed by the company.

Often, outsourcing is used so that a company can focus on its core operations.

Learn About The Advantages And Disadvantages

The company can outsource some of the work that takes up office space to reduce the need for additional space.

To expand its product line in-house, Company B would need to slow down production on some of its existing products.

The company can outsource the work to an external local factory to lessen its labor constraint.

Company C is a car manufacturer facing increasing raw material and labor costs.

Focusing more on the company’s core competencies, and thus improving its competitive advantages by outsourcing time-consuming processes to external companies.

Outsourcing companies may impose hidden or unexpected costs by creating lengthy contractual agreements with lots of fine print.

Lack of quality control, as outsourcing companies are often profit-driven rather than focused on doing a good job.

Definition And Examples

Outsourcing strategies are used, for example, in the customer service, accounting, tax consulting, IT, and marketing departments.

Customer service: A company relinquishes the task of customer service to a specialized company.

Marketing: A company outsources the support of social media channels to an external service provider.

Manufacturing of products: For many fashion companies it is too expensive to produce clothes in the US. Therefore, they often opt for production in Asia.

These are just a few typical examples of outsourcing.

In practice, a company today can outsource every step of its operations, whether in manufacturing or the provision of services, to an external contractor.

Thanks to the networked world, it no longer matters whether the foreign company is located in the neighboring village or on the other side of the world.

Outsourcing

In 2013, the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals gave recognition to Electronic Data Systems Corporation’s Morton H. Meyerson who, in 1967, proposed the business model that eventually became known as outsourcing.

“A 2018″The Future of Outsourcing” report began with “The future of outsourcing is digital.

Outsourcing has gone through many iterations and reinventions, and some outsourcing contracts have been partially or fully reversed.

Print and mail outsourcing is the outsourcing of document printing and distribution.

Business Process Outsourcing is a subset of outsourcing that involves the contracting of the operations and responsibilities of a specific business process to a third-party service provider.

Information Technology Enabled Service, Knowledge process outsourcing and Legal process outsourcing are some of the sub-segments of BPO. Although BPO began as a cost-reducer, changes, companies now choose to outsource their back-office increasingly for time flexibility and direct quality control.

In 2015, official statistics put the size of the total outsourcing industry in China, including not only the BPO industry but also IT outsourcing services, at $130.9 billion.

What Is Outsourcing? How Does It Work?

Cost-saving on infrastructure and technology: outsourcing your projects helps you eliminate investment in infrastructure since the outsourcing partner takes the responsibility of the business processes.

Selecting the right outsourcing firm for your business is the bedrock on which the entire outsourcing process depends.

If the legal implications of the outsourcing contract are unclear to both the organisation and the service provider, there will be uncertainties surrounding the outsourcing decision.

The number of resources that a company will spend when opting for outsourcing is not accurately represented by the total amount of an outsourcing contract.

Irrespective of how good an outsourcing company may seem to be, it would be best if you were entirely sure that you’re choosing the right outsourcing partner for your business.

Successful outsourcing is the dream of every organisation, and modern-day organisations are beginning to appreciate and leverage outsourcing to accomplish more.

Workforce Outsourcing as an outsourcing partner understands all the challenges associated with outsourcing, and mitigate these risks well in advance while working with clients.

What Is Outsourcing And How Does It Affect Jobs In The U.S?

Outsourcing has economic effects, both good and bad. Find out more about how outsourcing works, why companies do it, and its impact on jobs in the U.S. When an organization hires another organization to do some of its business processes, it is outsourcing.

Outsourcing to an organization in another country is often called offshoring.

Taking advantage of time zones: Many businesses have found they can get more work done in less time by outsourcing it to people in different time zones.

A U.S. company can offer 24-hour customer service by outsourcing to call centers in India and the Philippines, for instance.

Outsourcing has economic effects, good and bad. It has the greatest impact on jobs and prices.

Job Impacts When it comes to employment, outsourcing moves jobs around.

Price Impacts In general, outsourcing leads to lower prices, because the work generally moves to those who earn less.

What Is The Definition Of Outsourcing?

Outsourcing shifts tasks, operations, jobs, or processes to an external workforce, by contracting with a third party for a significant period of time.

Outsourcing firms often provide management-level employees along with their work teams, which frees up internal employees to take on other work.

This practice is also known as “Offshoring,” which involves outsourcing to a third party in a country other than the one where the outsourcing company is based in order to save on labor costs.

Advantages Outsourcing can free up cash, personnel, facilities and time resources.

In addition to cost savings, companies may also employ outsourcing strategies in order to focus on core business competencies.

Many outsourcing relationships inevitably will involve the third party organization’s access to sensitive business data, trade secrets, and other confidential information that is necessary to perform contracted functions.

There may be some negative public relations impacts for companies when outsourcing results in the loss of a large number of jobs for workers in their local communities.

Post Idea #4: Access control

What Is Access Control?

Access control identifies users by verifying various login credentials, which can include usernames and passwords, PINs, biometric scans, and security tokens.

Many access control systems also include multifactor authentication, a method that requires multiple authentication methods to verify a user’s identity.

Once a user is authenticated, access control then authorizes the appropriate level of access and allowed actions associated with that user’s credentials and IP address.

Discretionary access control: In this method, the owner or administrator of the protected system, data, or resource sets the policies for who is allowed access.

Mandatory access control: In this nondiscretionary model, people are granted access based on an information clearance.

Role-based access control: RBAC grants access based on defined business functions rather than the individual user’s identity.

Attribute-based access control: In this dynamic method, access is based on a set of attributes and environmental conditions, such as time of day and location, assigned to both users and resources.

What Is Access Control? The Essential Cybersecurity Practice

An organization may employ an electronic control system that relies on user credentials, access card readers, intercom, auditing and reporting to track which employees have access and have accessed a restricted data center.

This access control system could authenticate the person’s identity with biometrics and check if they are authorized by checking against an access control policy or with a key fob, password or personal identification number entered on a keypad. Another access control solution may employ multi factor authentication, an example of a defense in depth security system, where a person is required to know something, be something and have something.

Discretionary access control: Access management where owners or administrators of the protected system, data or resource set the policies defining who or what is authorized to access the resource.

Role-based access control: In RBAC, an access system determines who can access a resource rather than an owner.

RBAC differs from DAC in that DAC allows users to control access while in RBAC, access is controlled at the system level, outside of user control.

It’s not uncommon to have some form of rule-based access control and role-based access control working together.

Break-Glass access control: Traditional access control has the purpose of restricting access, which is why most access control models follow the principle of least privilege and the default deny principle.

Access Control Overview

This topic for the IT professional describes access control in Windows, which is the process of authorizing users, groups, and computers to access objects on the network or computer.

After a user is authenticated, the Windows operating system uses built-in authorization and access control technologies to implement the second phase of protecting resources: determining if an authenticated user has the correct permissions to access a resource.

During the access control check, these permissions are examined to determine which security principals can access the resource and how they can access it.

Shared resources use access control lists to assign permissions.

Object owners often define permissions for container objects, rather than individual child objects, to ease access control management.

By using the access control user interface, you can set NTFS permissions for objects such as files, Active Directory objects, registry objects, or system objects such as processes.

You can select which object access to audit by using the access control user interface, but first you must enable the audit policy by selecting Audit object access under Local Policies in Local Security Settings.

What Is Access Control?

To secure a facility, organizations use electronic access control systems that rely on user credentials, access card readers, auditing and reports to track employee access to restricted business locations and proprietary areas, such as data centers.

Some of these systems incorporate access control panels to restrict entry to rooms and buildings, as well as alarms and lockdown capabilities, to prevent unauthorized access or operations.

The goal of access control is to minimize the security risk of unauthorized access to physical and logical systems.

Access control is a fundamental component of security compliance programs that ensures security technology and access control policies are in place to protect confidential information, such as customer data.

These systems provide access control software, a user database, and management tools for access control policies, auditing and enforcement.

Another often overlooked challenge of access control is the user experience design of access control technologies.

There are many types of access control software and technology, and often, multiple components are used together to maintain access control.

We are leaders in access control, video security, and intrusion detection-and we have years of experience in bringing these all together into seamlessly integrated, converged solutions for our customers.

What Is Access Control? A Key Component Of Data Security

Who should access your company’s data? How do you make sure those who attempt access have actually been granted that access? Under which circumstances do you deny access to a user with access privileges?

Access control is a method of guaranteeing that users are who they say they are and that they have the appropriate access to company data.

At a high level, access control is a selective restriction of access to data.

“In every data breach, access controls are among the first policies investigated,” notes Ted Wagner, CISO at SAP National Security Services, Inc. “Whether it be the inadvertent exposure of sensitive data improperly secured by an end user or the Equifax breach, where sensitive data was exposed through a public-facing web server operating with a software vulnerability, access controls are a key component. When not properly implemented or maintained, the result can be catastrophic.”

“Access control rules must change based on risk factor, which means that organizations must deploy security analytics layers using AI and machine learning that sit on top of the existing network and security configuration. They also need to identify threats in real-time and automate the access control rules accordingly.”

Older access models include discretionary access control and mandatory access control, role based access control is the most common model today, and the most recent model is known as attribute based access control.

RBAC grants access based on a user’s role and implements key security principles, such as “Least privilege” and “Separation of privilege.” Thus, someone attempting to access information can only access data that’s deemed necessary for their role.

Access Control

In the fields of physical security and information security, access control is the selective restriction of access to a place or other resource, while access management describes the process.

Physical access control can be achieved by a human, through mechanical means such as locks and keys, or through technological means such as access control systems like the mantrap.

Access control decisions are made by comparing the credentials to an access control list.

A more narrow definition of access control would cover only access approval, whereby the system makes a decision to grant or reject an access request from an already authenticated subject, based on what the subject is authorized to access.

Authentication and access control are often combined into a single operation, so that access is approved based on successful authentication, or based on an anonymous access token.

Attribute-based Access Control An access control paradigm whereby access rights are granted to users through the use of policies which evaluate attributes.

In public policy, access control to restrict access to systems or to track or monitor behavior within systems is an implementation feature of using trusted systems for security or social control.

How To Meditate

We welcome you to our Mindful guide to meditation, which includes a variety of styles of meditation, information about the benefits of each practice, and free guided audio practices that help you learn how to meditate and incorporate meditation into your daily life.

How do you learn to meditate? In mindfulness meditation, we’re learning how to pay attention to the breath as it goes in and out, and notice when the mind wanders from this task.

Renowned meditation teacher Sharon Salzberg recounts that her first experience with meditation showed her how quickly the mind gets caught up in other tasks.

How to Meditate Meditation is something everyone can do, here’s how.

We “Practice” mindfulness so we can learn how to recognize when our minds are doing their normal everyday acrobatics, and maybe take a pause from that for just a little while so we can choose what we’d like to focus on.

Meditation

“The gentle repetition of its prayers makes it an excellent means to moving into deeper meditation. It gives us an opportunity to open ourselves to God’s word, to refine our interior gaze by turning our minds to the life of Christ. The first principle is that meditation is learned through practice. Many people who practice rosary meditation begin very simply and gradually develop a more sophisticated meditation. The meditator learns to hear an interior voice, the voice of God”.

While prayer and meditation are linked, where meditation happens generally in a prayerful attitude, prayer is seen specifically as turning toward God, and meditation is seen as a communion with one’s self where one focuses on the divine.

New Age meditation evolved into a range of purposes and practices, from serenity and balance to access to other realms of consciousness to the concentration of energy in group meditation to the supreme goal of samadhi, as in the ancient yogic practice of meditation.

In the West, meditation techniques have sometimes been thought of in two broad categories: focused meditation and open monitoring meditation.

Guided meditation is a form of meditation which utilizes a number of different techniques to achieve or enhance the meditative state.

Guided meditation as an aggregate or synthesis of techniques includes meditation music, receptive music therapy, guided imagery, relaxation, meditative praxis, and self-reflective diary-keeping or journaling.

In Norway, another sound-based method called Acem Meditation developed a psychology of meditation and has been the subject of several scientific studies.

What Is Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction?

MBSR, or Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, is an eight-week mindfulness training program that was created by Jon Kabat-Zinn in 1979 at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center.

MBSR is supported by a wide body of research showing that it is effective at addressing chronic pain, anxiety, depression, and general stress reduction.

Its roots do come from spiritual teachings, as do all mindfulness meditation programs, but it is largely based on proven medical and psychological research.

Research conducted in the decades since MBSR was created shows that the majority of people who complete the program later report significant benefits, including an increased ability to deal with both short and long-term stress, decreases in both physical and physiological symptoms, a strong sense of relaxation, reduction in pain, increased ability to deal with chronic pain, and a renewed excitement and energy to live.

The program must consist of: an orientation session, eight weekly classes, an all-day silent retreat during the sixth week of the program, “Formal” mindfulness meditation methods, “Informal” mindfulness meditation methods, daily home assignments, individual and group dialogue about the home assignments, and an exit assessment strategy and individual self-assessment during the week eight course.

MBSR: Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction is an effective, scientifically researched method for reducing physical and psychological suffering while building resilience, balance, and peace of mind.

Learning to practice mindfulness provides a way of relating directly with whatever is happening in your life, a way of taking charge of your life, of consciously and systematically noticing and responding to your own stress and pain,, and to the challenges and demands of living as well.

This starts with cultivating present-moment attention in an open, nonjudgmental way.

MBSR is a nonsectarian, scientifically researched approach that is in harmony with any faith-based tradition.

Scientific research at medical and research centers around the world suggests that MBSR can positively and often profoundly affect participants’ lives.

Loosening of the grip of negative habits and thinking.

Discovery that difficult and unwanted thoughts and feelings can be seen from an altogether different perspective – a perspective that brings with it a sense of compassion and less judgment to the suffering you are experiencing.

Choose a regular time each day for mindfulness meditation practice, ideally a quiet place free from distraction 2.

V Try closing the door and take some time to consciously relax.

V Take some time at lunch or break to share with close associates.

If possible, make time to take 5-10 minutes to be quiet and still.

Block out time just for planning and don’t attend to other tasks during that time.

If you can, turn off your e-mail during times when you’re focusing on other tasks.

V Throughout the day, do mindful check-ins from time to time.

Online MBSR/Mindfulness

This online MBSR training course is 100% free, created by a fully certified MBSR instructor, and is based on the program founded by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.

Welcome!I’m so glad you found this website! Here you will find a complete MBSR course, designed for people who are not able to take a live MBSR course for financial or logistical reasons.

How does the Palouse Mindfulness course compare to a live MBSR course? After reading the letters of completion and practice sheets of more than 5,000 online students from 90 countries and having previously taught MBSR to 400 people live and in person, I’ve concluded that students who complete the Palouse Mindfulness course typically have just as deep an experience as those who complete a live MBSR course.

A live course, even one taught by a single gifted teacher, will necessarily be limited in range in terms of teaching style and content, but with the Palouse Mindfulness course, you will be taught, through videos and readings, by a variety of world-renowned teachers such as Jon Kabat-Zinn, Thich Nhat Hanh, Pema Chodron, Sylvia Boorstein, Tara Brach, Jack Kornfield, Sharon Salzberg, Kristin Neff, and Shauna Shapiro.

It is for this reason that, for those who can afford it and can fit it into their schedule, a live MBSR course may be a better option than the Palouse Mindfulness course because a regular live MBSR course increases the odds that a student will finish what they have begun.

MBSR “At a Glance” provides a brief outline of the MBSR course.

I’m grateful to them for helping to make this free Online MBSR course possible.

UCSF Osher Center For Integrative Medicine

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction is an eight-week program that introduces mindfulness practices in the form of sitting meditation, body awareness, and mindful movement, modeled by Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD. This program can help if stress is having a negative impact on your life, if you are experiencing chronic physical or mental distress, or if you are simply interested in learning ways to maintain health and well-being.

Over 6,000 research papers have published findings on MBSR including decreased depression, pain, and distress, and increased attention, concentration, performance, and quality of life.

The MBSR program is comprised of the Orientation and Introduction to Mindfulness, a 30-minute private interview with the instructor before the first class, 8 weekly sessions, and one daylong session on a Saturday or Sunday.

The Orientation and Introduction to Mindfulness session consists of meeting the instructor and other participants; an introduction to what participation in the class entails; a talk about the impact of stress and mindfulness on health, the history of MBSR, and research on the MBSR model; and instruction in and practice of introductory mindfulness techniques.

If you are interested in learning mindfulness in an online course that is specifically designed and offered exclusively for patients with chronic low back pain for free at the UCSF Osher Center, you may check the research study website: osher.

Due to program capacity, students can participate in up to three MBSR courses.

Dietary supplements are widely available in health food stores, drug stores, grocery stores, fitness centers and online and they come in many forms including: 2 piece capsules, soft gels, tablets, bottles of liquid, powders and gummies.

Creating an industry estimated to have a 2020 value of $140.3 billion, there are more than 50,000 dietary supplement products marketed in the United States, where about 50% of the American adult population consumes dietary supplements.

In the United States, the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 provides this description: “The Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 defines the term”dietary supplement” to mean a product intended to supplement the diet that bears or contains one or more of the following dietary ingredients: a vitamin, a mineral, an herb or other botanical, an amino acid, a dietary substance for use by man to supplement the diet by increasing the total dietary intake, or a concentrate, metabolite, constituent, extract, or combination of any of the aforementioned ingredients.

A dietary supplement must be labeled as a dietary supplement and be intended for ingestion and must not be represented for use as conventional food or as a sole item of a meal or of the diet.

A dietary supplement cannot be approved or authorized for investigation as a new drug, antibiotic, or biologic, unless it was marketed as a food or a dietary supplement before such approval or authorization.

Like foods and unlike drugs, no government approval is required to make or sell dietary supplements; the manufacturer confirms the safety of dietary supplements but the government does not; and rather than requiring risk-benefit analysis to prove that the product can be sold like a drug, such assessment is only used by the FDA to decide that a dietary supplement is unsafe and should be removed from market.

Although as a general rule, dietary supplement labeling and marketing are not allowed to make disease prevention or treatment claims, the U.S. FDA has for some foods and dietary supplements reviewed the science, concluded that there is significant scientific agreement, and published specifically worded allowed health claims.

As continual research on the properties of supplements accumulates, databases or fact sheets for various supplements are updated regularly, including the Dietary Supplement Label Database, Dietary Supplement Ingredient Database, and Dietary Supplement Facts Sheets of the United States.

Chris Licht Named CNN Chief: “A Journalist At Heart”

Chris Licht will take over as chief of CNN in the spring, Discovery CEO David Zaslav confirmed on Monday.

Before working with Colbert, Licht ran “CBS This Morning” and helped develop “Morning Joe” on MSNBC with host Joe Scarborough.

Zaslav said that Licht will likely replace Jeff Zucker in May when Discovery’s corporate takeover of Warner Media, CNN’s parent company, is expected to be complete.

In a memo, Zucker said the relationship had come to light during the network’s investigation of former anchor Chris Cuomo, who was fired in December for his role in helping his brother, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, formulate his defense during a sexual harassment scandal.

CNN’s Jeff Zucker resigns over relationship with colleague 02:14.

Weeks after Zucker’s resignation, Allison Gollust, CNN’s chief marketing officer, resigned after it was largely reported that she was the colleague Zucker had a relationship with.

WarnerMedia said in a statement to CBS News that a third-party investigation found Zucker, Gollust and former “Cuomo Prime Time” host Chris Cuomo violated company policies, including CNN’s News Standards and Practices.

Chris Licht Will Be CNN’S New CEO, Set To Replace Jeff Zucker

NEW YORK – Chris Licht, most recently Stephen Colbert’s top producer at CBS, was appointed Monday as the new chairman and CEO of CNN Global, starting May 1.

Licht’s appointment to replace Jeff Zucker as chief of CNN was widely reported over the weekend.

In a memo to CNN employees distributed by Discovery, Zaslav called Licht a “Dynamic and creative producer, an engaging and thoughtful journalist, and a true news person.”

In a note to his future colleagues, Licht said he’s excited to join CNN and plans “To do a lot of listening … I am a journalist at heart. While I have enjoyed every minute at ‘The Late Show,’ I am joining CNN because I feel a genuine pull to return to news at such a critical moment in history,” he wrote.

CNN completes probe into Chris Cuomo and Jeff Zucker, doesn’t disclose findings.

His resignation on Feb. 2 followed an inquiry into the scandal that led CNN to fire top anchor Chris Cuomo in December after it was revealed he helped his brother, embattled New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who was accused of sexual harassment.

CNN Taps New President, Current Executive Producer Of ‘The Late Show’ To Replace Jeff Zucker

CNN has already selected its new president, who is coming from the comedy world after spending years producing morning news.

CNN media correspondent Brian Stelter, who frequently acts as a de-facto spokesperson for the embattled network, confirmed Puck News’ report that CNN will name Chris Licht, the current executive producer of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” as its new boss following the dramatic resignation of its scandal-plagued leader Jeff Zucker.

“I can now report, based on conversations with sources who have spoken directly with Zaslav, that Licht is indeed the person who Zaslav has selected to run CNN,” Puck News reporter Dylan Byers, who previously reported Licht was a “Top contender” for the role.

“Licht will run CNN as head of news for Warner Bros. Discovery, a source familiar with the matter said. Unlike Zucker, his purview will not extend to sports. Licht has a deal with CBS that expires in April, according to people familiar with the matter, but his hiring is likely to be announced at, or ahead of, a special Discovery shareholders meeting on March 11,” Byers wrote.

CNN and Discovery did not immediately respond to Fox News’ requests for comment.

Zucker shocked the media landscape earlier this month when he informed his staff that he was resigning immediately after he failed to acknowledge to his employer about his consensual relationship with Allison Gollust, a deputy executive who has since resigned from the network.

Reports have revealed that Zucker and Gollust’s close ties to then-Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who they allegedly gave “Talking points” to in the early months of the pandemic to combat then-President Trump.

Jeff Zucker

A 2004 BusinessWeek Profile stated that “During that time he oversaw NBC’s entire entertainment schedule. He kept the network ahead of the pack by airing the gross out show Fear Factor, negotiating for the cast of the hit series Friends to take the series up to a tenth season, and signing Donald Trump for the reality show The Apprentice. He is credited with the idea to extend Friends episodes by 10 minutes and convinced the cast to extend their contracts by two years. The Friends era was one of the most profitable ever for NBC. The Zucker era produced a spike in operating earnings for NBC, from $532 million the year he took over to $870 million in 2003.”.

Under Zucker NBC fell from being the number one rated network to the lowest rated of the four broadcast networks and was occasionally being beaten in the ratings by programming on some of the more popular cable channels.

Days later, The New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd wrote that in Hollywood “There has been a single topic of discussion: How does Jeff Zucker keep rising and rising while the fortunes of NBC keep falling and falling? …many in the Hollywood community have always regarded him as …a network Napoleon who never bothered to learn about developing shows and managing talent.” She explained that Zucker “Is a master at managing up with bosses and calculating cost-per-hour benefits, but even though he made money on cable shows, he could not program the network to save his life.”

Erson Cooper told colleagues that Zucker was “The first CNN president to actually watch CNN”. In December 2013, Zucker stated that his goal for the channel was to offer an “Attitude and a take” to viewers, with a larger focus on reality-style documentary series.

In March 2019, CNN parent WarnerMedia announced a reorganization in which Zucker would become chairman of the company’s news and sports division, overseeing Turner Sports, Bleacher Report and AT&T SportsNet, in addition to maintaining his role as head of CNN. [edit].

In March 2019, the National Association of Black Journalists criticized Zucker and CNN for lack of diversity within the CNN ranks.

On February 2, 2022, Zucker resigned from CNN. In his resignation letter, Zucker acknowledged that he did not disclose a consensual relationship he had with CNN’s Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Allison Gollust, when it began.

Discovery on Monday officially named CBS executive Chris Licht as the new head of CNN. Former head of the network Jeff Zucker reluctantly resigned earlier this month after failing to disclose an office relationship with ex-CNN marketing head Allison Gollust.

If Discovery’s merger with WarnerMedia closes next month, as expected, Licht would start at CNN in May after departing CBS in “a couple of weeks,” according to an internal memo received by CNBC. Licht was the only person Discovery CEO David Zaslav called about taking over for Zucker, according to people familiar with the matter.

“If you are looking to reimagine CNN and bring it closer to its original mission of just doing the news, he is your guy,” said Mosheh Oinounou, a media consultant who worked with Licht at CBS from 2011 to 2016 as part of the team that relaunched “CBS This Morning.”

Licht will allow CNN personalities to be themselves, but he also isn’t afraid to tell talent what they need to hear, according to Ryan Kadro, who also worked with Licht at CBS and took over the CBS morning news show when Licht departed.

While Licht’s shift toward hard news at CBS mirrors Malone’s wishes for CNN, Licht’s gift for allowing talent to show their true personalities may conflict with broadcasting news in more nonpartisan ways – especially if Trump runs again for the presidency in 2024.

The former CNN chief has been a role model for Licht, said one former colleague, which is potentially good news for employees who have vociferously supported Zucker in recent weeks and praised his leadership.

Still, Licht made a point to put the word “News” in all capital letters in a memo he wrote to CNN staff Monday – seemingly echoing Malone’s comments that CNN should redirect toward straight news coverage.

The sudden end of Mr. Zucker’s nine-year tenure stunned his newsroom and threw CNN’s future into flux at a crucial moment: The network is about to introduce a high-stakes streaming service, and its parent company, WarnerMedia, is on the verge of being acquired by Discovery Inc.Mr. Zucker, 56, wrote in a memo on Wednesday that his relationship had come up during an internal investigation into the conduct of Chris Cuomo, the CNN anchor who was fired in December over his involvement in the political affairs of his brother, former Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo of New York.”I was asked about a consensual relationship with my closest colleague, someone I have worked with for more than 20 years,” Mr. Zucker wrote.

Mr. Cuomo’s lawyers sent a letter asking CNN to preserve messages between Mr. Zucker, Ms. Gollust, Andrew Cuomo and Andrew Cuomo’s staff.

Mr. Zucker recruited the anchor to CNN from ABC News, and he stood by Mr. Cuomo for months even after revelations that he had advised aides to Andrew Cuomo on how the governor could fend off a sexual harassment scandal.

Mr. Kilar, who is based in Los Angeles, visited New York and Washington on Wednesday to address CNN executives, saying he had accepted Mr. Zucker’s resignation.

As Mr. Trump hardened against CNN, he publicly vilified Mr. Zucker and often joined his supporters in chants of “CNN sucks,” making the network a symbol of what he called a biased press.

Mr. Trump celebrated Mr. Zucker’s resignation on Wednesday, claiming in a statement that Mr. Zucker had been “Terminated for numerous reasons, but predominantly because CNN has lost its way with viewers and everybody else.”

Fox News, whose coverage is often criticized by CNN commentators, also featured Mr. Zucker’s exit on Wednesday, running a headline at the top of its website saying he “Resigns in disgrace.” An accompanying article said Mr. Zucker had “Personally allowed” CNN to “Drift from a just-the-facts news operation to a hyperpartisan opinion platform.”

The first aerosol spray can patent was granted in Oslo in 1927 to Erik Rotheim, a Norwegian chemical engineer, and a United States patent was granted for the invention in 1931.

Their design of a refillable spray can, dubbed the aerosol bomb or bug bomb, is the ancestor of many commercial spray products.

The “Crimp-on valve”, used to control the spray in low-pressure aerosol sprays was developed in 1949 by Bronx machine shop proprietor Robert H. Abplanalp.

Modern aerosol spray products have three major parts: the can, the valve and the actuator or button.

Some non-propellant alternatives include various spray bottles, squeeze bottles, and Bag on Valve or Bag in Can compressed gas aerosol systems.

Aerosol burn injuries can be caused by the spraying of aerosol directly onto the skin, in a practice sometimes called “Frosting”.

Encyclopedia.Com

The word “Aerosol” also refers to the dispenser or package used to change the ingredient inside the container into an aerosol.

The aerosol spray can dates back to 1926, when Norwegian inventor Eric Rotheim discovered that a product could be sprayed from an aluminum can that had been injected with gas or liquid to build pressure.

Lyle David Goodhue, credited as the inventor of the spray can, earned a patent for a refillable aerosol spray can in 1941.

Inside the aerosol spray can is a main ingredient, such as an asthma medication, and a propellant.

Chlorofluorocarbons, including Freon, were used extensively as aerosol propellants.

In 1978 the U. S. Government banned the use of certain CFCs, and manufacturers of aerosol products had to find other propellants.

Now less than two percent of American-made aerosol cans contain CFCs. Those that do contain CFCs mostly dispense drugs, such as asthma inhalers.

Neutrogena Beach Defense and Ultra Sheer sunscreens have been recalled by Johnson & Johnson Inc. due to elevated levels of benzene.

2 Neutrogena spray-on sunscreens recalled due to elevated levels of benzene Health Canada warns that frequent exposure to elevated levels of benzene has been linked to cancer.

Johnson & Johnson is recalling two types of spray-on sunscreen after testing indicated elevated levels of benzene.

The recall applies to all lots of Neutrogena Beach Defense and Ultra Sheer aerosol sunscreens for both adults and children with SPF 30, 45 and 60.

Health Canada says consumers should stop using these products, warning that frequent and long-term exposure to elevated levels of benzene has been linked to serious health risks including leukemia and other cancers.

The agency says similar recalls were issued in the United States after independent laboratory Valisure found elevated levels of benzene in several sunscreen and after-sun products.

In a news release announcing the voluntary U.S. recall last week, Johnson & Johnson says benzene is not an ingredient in any of its sunscreens, but low levels were detected in some samples of certain aerosol sunscreen finished products.

A Guide To Caring For Elderly Parents

Looking at how and where elderly parents of caring families live is critical to ensuring their well-being.

Are they living alone? Do they live close to you, other siblings, or supportive relatives? Do they prefer to stay in their home or would they be open to moving into another more supportive location or living arrangement? These are all very important things to consider and discuss seriously with your elderly parents.

Below we’ve listed the most common types of living arrangements available to seniors.

Suited best to active, independent seniors who rent or buy a home/apartments/mobile home in a community with other seniors.

Seniors who require a living environment with medical surveillance and caregiving but don’t need a hospital.

Medicaid pays for care for 7 out of every 10 nursing home residents but Medicare generally does not pay for nursing home care.

Seniors who need assistance with daily activities and some health care support while having the companionship and care provided by living with a family member(s).

Elderly Care

Hourly care can make a big difference to those with fewer care needs, and at Elder we can help with respite care, short-term care and even overnight care for those who struggle through the night.

Home care for the elderly provides an alternative to traditional residential care options.

Respite care allows primary carers to take a break, whilst ensuring the same level of care and support is provided in the home – minimising disruption to a person’s routine and way of life.

Live-in carers do everything that domiciliary carers do – providing personal care services, housekeeping, cooking and even pet care.

As we’ve said, everyone’s elderly care needs and preferences differ, which is why there are a number of options when it comes to adult social care services.

Residential care homes for the elderly are designed for those who require care but not complex care.

The first step in arranging care is to understand the funding options available to you, and carry out a care needs assessment.

Caring For The Elderly: Dealing With Resistance

Caring for the elderly can be challenging – particularly if a loved one doesn’t want help.

Understand what’s causing your loved one’s resistance and how you can encourage cooperation.

How do you help a loved one who doesn’t want help? Understand why resistance to care might develop and strategies for fostering cooperation.

If your loved one is in need of care, he or she is likely dealing with loss – physical loss, mental loss, the loss of a spouse or the loss of independence.

Does your loved one have a preference about which family member or what type of service provides care? While you might not be able to meet all of your loved one’s wishes, it’s important to take them into consideration.

Keep in mind that these strategies might not be appropriate when dealing with a loved one who has dementia.

Your loved one might be more willing to listen to the advice of a doctor, lawyer or care manager about the importance of receiving care.

What Is Elder Care

Elder care, often referred to as senior care, is specialized care that is designed to meet the needs and requirements of senior citizens at various stages.

Elder care is a rather broad term, as it encompasses everything from assisted living and nursing care to adult day care, home care, and even hospice care.

Although aging in itself is not a reason to consider elder care, it is usually the various diseases and physical limitations that accompany old age that prompt a discussion about elder care.

Elder care is not always an absolute; in fact, some senior citizens never require any type of care to live independently in their later years.

Elder care often becomes an issue when a loved one begins experiencing difficulty with activities of daily living, both safely and independently.

The need for elder care may also happen quickly, as is the case if your loved one is recovering from a broken hip or recently had a stroke and is still suffering the cognitive and/or physical effects.

The type of elder care that is right for your loved one is largely dependent upon the type of health conditions he or she suffers from, the severity of the conditions, and the deficiencies experienced as a result.

Texas Health And Human Services

This growth likely means there will also be an increase in the need for all types of health and human services, such as health care, home care, personal care and long-term care.

Texas Health and Human Services provides a range of services for older Texans to help ensure their well-being, dignity and choices.

Eligible older Texans may qualify for federal and state programs that pay benefits, pay health care costs or provide food.

Medicaid provides health coverage to eligible low-income adults, children, pregnant women, and people who are older or who have disabilities.

Medicare is our country’s health insurance program for people age 65 or older.

The program helps with the cost of health care, but it doesn’t cover all medical expenses or the cost of most long-term care.

Households in which all members are either older adults or people with disabilities are eligible to participate in the Texas Simplified Application Project, which makes the SNAP application process easier and provides three years of benefits at a time instead of six months.

Elderly Care

Government-run elderly care is seldom used in many Asian countries, where younger generations often care for the elderly.

In most western countries, care facilities for older adults are residential family care homes, freestanding assisted living facilities, nursing homes, and continuing care retirement communities.

Around a million people received government-subsidised aged care services, most of these received low-level community care support, with 160,000 people in permanent residential care.

In public care homes, elderly Canadians may pay for their care on a sliding scale, based on annual income.

Care for the elderly in the UK has traditionally been funded by the state, but it is increasingly rationed, according to a joint report by the King’s Fund and Nuffield Trust, as the cost of care to the nation rises.

Due to the one-child policy, rural/urban migration and other social changes, the traditional long-term care for the elderly which was through direct family care in the past will no longer suffice.

The rich elderly in Thailand are much more likely to have access to care resources, while the poor elderly are more likely to actually use their acquired health care, as observed in a study by Bhumisuk Khananurak.

British Columbia

British Columbia is the fourth-largest province or territory by GDP. The province’s name was chosen by Queen Victoria, when the Colony of British Columbia, i.e., “The Mainland”, became a British colony in 1858.

It refers to the Columbia District, the British name for the territory drained by the Columbia River, in southeastern British Columbia, which was the namesake of the pre-Oregon Treaty Columbia Department of the Hudson’s Bay Company.

Queen Victoria chose British Columbia to distinguish what was the British sector of the Columbia District from the United States, which became the Oregon Territory on August 8, 1848, as a result of the treaty.

Ultimately, the Columbia in the name British Columbia is derived from the name of the Columbia Rediviva, an American ship which lent its name to the Columbia River and later the wider region; the Columbia in the name Columbia Rediviva came from the name Columbia for the New World or parts thereof, a reference to Christopher Columbus.

The Vancouver Island colony was facing financial crises of its own, and pressure to merge the two eventually succeeded in 1866, when the colony of British Columbia was amalgamated with the Colony of Vancouver Island to form the Colony of British Columbia, which was, in turn, succeeded by the present day province of British Columbia following the Canadian Confederation of 1871.

Previously, the right-of-centre British Columbia Liberal Party governed the province for 16 years between 2001 and 2017, and won the largest landslide election in British Columbia history in 2001, with 77 of 79 seats.

Prior to the rise of the Liberal Party, British Columbia’s main political party was the British Columbia Social Credit Party which ruled British Columbia for 20 continuous years.

These mountains divide the province in ranges aligned in a northwest-southeast direction, creating a series of valleys and a broad central interior plateau where human settlement has concentrated.

The two major ranges are the Coast Mountains, which lie in the western part of the province, and the Canadian portion of the Rocky Mountains in the eastern part.

The province reaches its highest elevation in the far northwest at Mount Fairweather, located in the St. Elias Mountains on the Alaskan border.

In the interior many of the wide plateaus are cut by deep canyons and entirely surrounded by mountain ranges, including the Cassiar, Omineca, Skeena, and Hazelton mountains in the north and the Columbia Mountains in the southeast.

The Columbia follows the Rocky Mountain Trench northward, bends around the northern end of the Selkirk Mountains, and turns south to flow into the Arrow Lakes and then into the U.S. states of Washington and Oregon.

The larger lakes are made long and narrow by the north-south mountain ranges that confine them in the deep and narrow valleys in all parts of the province.

Trudeau’S Trans Mountain Investment ‘Clearly’ Not Profitable: Watchdog

Canada’s financial watchdog says the federal government is “Very unlikely” to recoup its $4.5-billion investment in the Trans Mountain pipeline now that the project’s costs have soared by 70 per cent.

On Feb. 18, Trans Mountain Corporation announced the projected cost of the pipeline expansion has risen from $12.6 billion to $21.4 billion.

Even before costs jumped, the project already walked a fine line between profitable and unprofitable, according to a 2020 analysis by the PBO. Based on the previous cost estimate of $12.6 billion, a startup date of Dec. 31, 2022, and several other factors, the pipeline and expansion project’s net value was $600 million.

When the cost increase was announced, Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland said no more public funds will go to the Trans Mountain Corporation and that the Crown corporation that owns the massive oil pipeline will need to secure third-party funding through banks or public debt markets to complete the project.

The Trans Mountain Corporation will have to secure upwards of $10 billion in funding to meet the revised project cost of $21.4 billion.

The existing Trans Mountain pipeline carries 300,000 barrels of oil per day and is Canada’s only pipeline system transporting oil from Alberta to the West Coast.

“The cost is borne both in terms of the dollar spent, but also the cost when it comes to flooding, extreme heat, the impacts on our food systems and the future for our children and our grandchildren.”

How Much Does The Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion Cost?

Cost of pipeline twinning project increases by nearly $9 billion since last estimate.

The expansion project was last estimated to cost $12.6 billion.

On Friday, Trans Mountain Corp. released a new estimate for completing the project: $21.4 billion.

Trans Mountain Corp. is going to need a new CEO. In addition to announcing the project’s new cost, Trans Mountain Corp. today also announced that Trans Mountain CEO Ian Anderson will retire in April.

The new price tag for completing the project is four times what the project was estimated to cost in 2013, when the project was still owned by Kinder Morgan.

“This estimate includes the costs of all known project enhancements, changes, delays and financing, including impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and the substantial preliminary impacts of the November 2021 BC floods in the Hope, Coquihalla and Fraser Valley areas,” Trans Mountain said in a project update today.

The estimated capital cost has since increased four times – first to $6.8 billion, then $7.4 billion, and then $12.6 billion, after the Canadian government bought the pipeline from Kinder Morgan and assumed responsibility for completing the twinning project.

Canada To Stop Funding For Trans Mountain Pipeline Project As Costs Soar 70%

The federal government said on Friday it will halt any further public funding for the Trans Mountain oil pipeline expansion after the government-owned company behind the project said costs had surged 70 percent to $21.4 billion, up from an earlier estimate of $12.6 billion.

Trans Mountain Corp, a federal Crown corporation, will also be delaying the finish date for the expansion of the pipeline by a further nine months, dealing yet another blow to a project beset by regulatory delays and opposition, reports the Vancouver Sun.

To that end, the government has engaged BMO Capital Markets and TD Securities to provide financial advice to TMC. Both financial institutions have confirmed the project is still commercially viable and public financing for the project is a feasible option.

TMC now expects to finish the expansion of the pipeline in the third quarter of 2023, when it will nearly triple the capacity of the pipeline running from Alberta to the Pacific Coast to 890,000 barrels per day.

They blame both the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the extreme weather experienced in British Columbia in November of 2021 when the Trans Mountain pipeline was temporarily shut down for the higher costs.

“We remain fully supportive of this world-class infrastructure project which is vital to Canada’s long-term economic success and energy security,” said Suncor Energy Inc. chief executive Mark Little, in a statement released just hours after federal Crown corporation Trans Mountain Corp. released its new cost projections for the project.

“While no one wants to see cost increases, they are often a fact of life with projects of this size and in this case were largely beyond Trans Mountain’s control,” said Alex Pourbaix, CEO of Cenovus Energy Inc., in a separate statement.

The Federal Government Still Believes In The Trans Mountain Expansion

The federal government said Friday it will not put more money toward the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion in spite of a newly disclosed price tag for the project that comes in 70 per cent higher than expected.

Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland said Friday that Trans Mountain Corp. – the Crown corporation that owns the massive oil pipeline – will need to secure third-party funding to complete the project, either through banks or public debt markets.

Freeland’s comments came shortly after TMC announced the projected cost of the pipeline expansion has soared from its earlier estimate of $12.6 billion to $21.4 billion.

It was bought by the federal government for $4.5 billion in 2018, after previous owner Kinder Morgan Canada Inc. threatened to scrap the pipeline’s planned expansion project in the face of environmentalist opposition.

The expansion project will essentially twin the existing pipeline, raising daily output to 890,000 barrels.

“On Friday, Freeland said the federal government still believes the Trans Mountain expansion is a”serious and necessary project.

The federal government has said all along that it does not intend to be the long-term owner of the project, a position restated by Freeland Friday.

Trans Mountain Pipeline

The Trans Mountain Pipeline System, or simply the Trans Mountain Pipeline, is a pipeline that carries crude and refined oil from Alberta to the coast of British Columbia, Canada.

Until the August 31, 2018 purchase by CDEV, the Trans Mountain Pipeline was owned by the Canadian division of Houston, Texas-based pipeline operator Kinder Morgan.

On June 18, 2013, Kinder Morgan filed an application with the Canadian National Energy Board pursuant to Part III of the National Energy Board Act to build a second pipeline under the Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion Project.

On May 29, 2018, the Canadian federal government announced its intent to acquire the Trans Mountain Pipeline from Kinder Morgan for $4.5 billion.

During Burnaby Mountain protests in November 2014, opponents of the pipeline expansion camped in Burnaby Mountain Park to block pipeline construction crews, resulting in over 100 arrests.

Members of the Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations of British Columbia paddled canoes on the waters of Burrard Inlet to the Kinder Morgan Burnaby Terminal for a ceremony to protest the expansion of the Trans Mountain pipeline.

On 1 July 2020, the Supreme Court of Canada rejected an appeal by the Squamish Nation, Tsleil-Waututh Nation, and Coldwater Indian Band challenging federal approval of the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion project.

Trans Mountain Gives Pipeline Update

Trans Mountain Corporation has revealed that it has made “Considerable progress” towards a safe restart of the Trans Mountain pipeline.

Trans Mountain Corporation noted that it was in regular contact with its shippers and that it was working to mitigate potential impacts of the pipeline shut down on the region.

The Trans Mountain pipeline remains shut down following a voluntary, precautionary shut down on November 14 in anticipation of the impacts of heavy rainfall and extreme weather conditions, Trans Mountain Corporation highlighted.

On November 25, Trans Mountain Corporation warned of a continued deterioration of weather conditions in the region in the coming days.

“Trans Mountain has added snow maintenance equipment – two plows and two snowcats – to the list of heavy equipment already engaged in the response. More than 400 people, seven helicopters and some 100 pieces of heavy equipment in the Coquihalla and Coldwater regions, focused on getting the pipeline restarted,” the company added in the statement.

Last week, Parkland Corporation announced that it had initiated steps to pause refinery processing operations at the Burnaby Refinery in response to the “Ongoing crisis” in British Columbia that resulted in the shutdown of the Trans Mountain pipeline.

The Trans Mountain Pipeline was established in October 1953 to create a reliable energy supply for Canada and the United States, according to Trans Mountain Corporation’s website.

Cost Of Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion Soars 70% To $21.4 Billion – North Delta Reporter

An eye-popping 70 per cent increase in the projected price tag for the Trans Mountain expansion was met Friday by jeers from environmental groups and a pledge from the federal government to put no additional public money toward the project.

Canada’s oil and gas industry remains staunchly behind a project it says remains essential to the national interest, in spite of newly disclosed budget overruns that peg the new cost of the Trans Mountain expansion at $21.4 billion, up from an earlier estimate of $12.6 billion.

Trans Mountain was bought by the federal government for $4.5 billion in 2018, after previous owner Kinder Morgan Canada Inc. threatened to scrap the pipeline’s planned expansion project in the face of environmentalist opposition.

On Friday, Trans Mountain Corp. blamed the surging cost projections for the project on the COVID-19 pandemic and the effects of the November 2021 flooding in British Columbia, as well as project enhancements, increased security costs, route changes to avoid culturally and environmentally sensitive areas, and scheduling pressures related to permitting processes and construction challenges in difficult terrain.

Freeland said the federal government still believes the Trans Mountain expansion is a “Serious and necessary project.”

Environmentalists were quick to use words like “White elephant” and “Boondoggle.” Keith Stewart of Greenpeace Canada pointed out that this is not the first time the budget for the Trans Mountain expansion has ballooned – back in 2015, Kinder Morgan estimated the project would cost $5.4 billion, and that rose to $7.4 billion in 2017 just before the Trudeau government bought it.

BYOD: What Is Bring Your Own Device?

BYOD is the policy of allowing staff to use their personal mobile phones, laptops, and tablets for work purposes, such as connecting to the corporate IT infrastructure.

Businesses like BYOD because it saves the expense of providing every employee with a dedicated smartphone and monthly cell service contract.

It increases workforce mobility while reducing the IT burden of managing more company-owned devices.

Employees like BYOD because it allows them to be more productive and efficient by using a familiar device of their choice.

They can access data from anywhere, supporting field-based, hybrid, or work-from-home initiatives, and they only carry one device for all communication needs, business and personal.

Pros And Cons Of A Bring Your Own Device Policy

Bring-your-own-device policies are set by companies to allow employees to use their personal smartphones, laptops, and tablets for work.

Some employees may not have their own devices, but a recent Pew Research survey found that 77% of American adults already own a smartphone, and 92% of people ages 18 to 29 years old own one.

Convenience: Employees can stick one phone in their pockets or briefcases and they don’t have to worry about taking care of and responding on two devices.

Often, if your company pays to install Microsoft Office or Photoshop or whatever software the employee needs for work on an employee’s personal laptop, the employee is happy to have the software for personal work as well.

Efficiency: Employees have no learning curve for new equipment because they already understand how to use their own electronic devices.

Up-to-date technology: It’s a huge expense for any company to update equipment, but employees are often more motivated to pay to replace their personal phones or laptop with the latest available device.

Higher security risks: What type of data does your organization generate and use? It’s easy to make rules about how employees should use company devices, but it’s not quite so easy to tell your employees that they can’t let their 13-year-old write a school paper on their own laptop at home.

If the Army’s top IT officials have their way, soldiers will soon be able to bring their own approved devices to use at work “On an enduring basis.”

Army chief information officer Dr. Raj Iyer told reporters Tuesday that a short pilot program led by the National Guard earlier this year “Came back with flying colors” and passed key security tests.

“This is an area where the Army is going to prioritize the Reserve and National Guard components…and [then] establish a broader implementation across the Army. We’re feeling we can do that…here in [fiscal] 2022.”.

It’s also not yet clear how the Army will square increased security measures from its Army 365 collaboration platform, which replaced CVR, with the BYOD effort.

Currently, Army 365 users can only download files on government devices, leaving many National Guard and Reserve troops unable to perform basic administrative tasks like digitally signing documents outside of drill weekend.

The Army has also tried – and failed – to embrace BYOD policies before.

The service experimented with BYOD policies in the early 2010s, but the effort ultimately did not reach full implementation due to concerns with information security and poor password practices from end users.

Bring Your Own Device

Bring your own device-also called bring your own technology, bring your own phone, and bring your own personal computer-refers to being allowed to use one’s personally owned device, rather than being required to use an officially provided device.

The term was initially used by a VoIP service provider BroadVoice in 2004 with a service allowing businesses to bring their own device for a more open service provider model.

The proliferation of devices such as tablets and smartphones, now used by many people in their daily lives, has led to a number of companies, such as IBM, to allow employees to bring their own devices to work, due to perceived productivity gains and cost savings.

According to research by Logicalis, high-growth markets demonstrate a much higher propensity to use their own device at work.

BYOD increases employee satisfaction and job satisfaction, as the user can use the device they have selected as their own rather than one selected by the IT team.

Traditionally if the device was owned by the organisation, the organisation can dictate for what purposes the device may be used or what public sites may be accessed from the device.

A personally owned device is any technology device that was purchased by an individual and was not issued by the agency.

Post Idea #20: Mobile device management

What Is Mobile Device Management?

A common question on the web is: “Is mobile device management a piece of software?” The short answer is “Yes” and “No.” MDM is a solution that uses software as a component to provision mobile devices while protecting an organization’s assets, such as data.

Organizations practice MDM by applying software, processes and security policies onto mobile devices and toward their use.

Beyond managing device inventory and provisioning, MDM solutions protect the device’s applications, data and content.

In an MDM program, employees can receive a dedicated work device, such as laptops or smartphones, or have a personal device remotely enrolled.

With MDM tools, enterprises can track, monitor, troubleshoot and even wipe device data in the event of theft, loss or a detected breach.

What are mobile device management policies? MDM policies answer questions about how organizations will manage mobile devices and govern their use.

What customization options will the device provide?

What Is MDM?

MDM software or MDM solution is a type of management or security technology that enables IT admins to monitor, manage and secure corporate or personally-owned mobile devices that run across multiple operating systems.

If you want to leverage portability to improve productivity without compromising security, you need a proper mobile device management system or MDM software set up to simplify the challenge of managing mobile devices.

An MDM solution or an MDM server provides a unified console to manage the different device types used in an organization.

They let you manage the apps being installed or removed on mobile devices, monitor the devices in the MDM server, configure basic settings on devices, and set up devices that will be used for specific purposes, like point of sale.

The main purpose of enterprise MDM or mobile device management is to allow enterprises to focus on improving productivity of their employees by allowing them to access corporate data on the go using corporate or personally-owned mobile devices.

Mobile Device Management solutions use a client-server architecture, with the devices acting as clients while MDM server remotely pushes configurations, apps, and policies managing the devices over-the-air.

An MDM solution helps you seamlessly manage personal devices and in-house apps while also ensuring those devices adhere to your enterprise’s security standards.

What Is Mobile Device Management?

Mobile device management is a type of security software that enables organizations to secure, monitor, manage, and enforce policies on employees’ mobile devices.

The increasing adoption of mobile devices combined with more people working from home or remotely highlights the importance of MDM. Organizations need mobility solutions that secure user access, regardless of where they connect to networks and which device they use.

Application extension: This sees policies applied to applications through a software development kit or through a wrapping process… Mobile content management: Mobile content management is the process of enabling employees to access content via their mobile devices.

Mobile device management: MDM is software that allows organizations to monitor, manage, and secure their employees’ devices across multiple service providers and operating systems.

Mobile device management is most commonly managed through third-party products.

Mobile device management is required because it allows organizations to secure their networks, ensure employees access corporate systems using secure devices, and prevent the risk of data breaches.

MDM means mobile device management, which is a type of software that enables organizations to monitor, manage, and secure their employees’ mobile devices.

Most mobile device management tools specialize in securing either Apple or Android devices.

Despite this, there are some options that can secure both, though they tend to lack the more advanced features that specialized tools can provide.

Many mobile device management tools allow for the provisioning of applications and data to business devices.

This is not endemic to all mobile device management tools though, as many focus on security with minimal other features.

Most mobile device management tools cover both cellular devices and tablets, but for larger devices such as laptops, an endpoint security tool may be more appropriate.

Mobile Device Management

Though closely related to Enterprise Mobility Management and Unified Endpoint Management, MDM differs slightly from both: unlike MDM, EMM includes mobile information management, BYOD, mobile application management and mobile content management, whereas UEM provides device management for endpoints like desktops, printers, IoT devices, and wearables as well.

MDM functionality can include over-the-air distribution of applications, data and configuration settings for all types of mobile devices, including mobile phones, smartphones, tablet computers, ruggedized mobile computers, mobile printers, mobile POS devices, etc.

Most recently laptops and desktops have been added to the list of systems supported as Mobile Device Management becomes more about basic device management and less about the mobile platform itself.

The Open Mobile Alliance specified a platform-independent device management protocol called OMA Device Management.

These include the ability to remotely configure a single mobile device, an entire fleet of mobile devices or any IT-defined set of mobile devices; send software and OS updates; remotely lock and wipe a device, which protects the data stored on the device when it is lost or stolen; and remote troubleshooting.

Mobile device management software enables corporate IT departments to manage the many mobile devices used across the enterprise; consequently, over-the-air capabilities are in high demand.

MDM is also about managing the device features, but its coupled with mobile content management and Mobile Identity Management, Application management is referred to as Enterprise Mobility Management.

A product recall is defined as a request to return, exchange, or replace a product after a manufacturer or consumer watch group discovers defects that could hinder performance, harm consumers, or produce legal issues for the producers.

Due to a greater awareness of consumer safety concerns, many companies focus on taking preventive measures, using an internal product recall team, and implementing quality control procedures designed to reduce the risk of-and perhaps even prevent-major product recall expenditures.

An organization-wide culture of product safety-including product management, design, quality, use and testing, and literature-is the best means of preventing a product recall.

Even with an established culture of quality, organizations face product recall risks due to human error, systems failures, and product or component failures.

Create a product recall team designed to uncover and evaluate any possible product deficiencies before they result in injury or damage and to recommend a fix, when appropriate.

Prepare a product recall action plan that can be followed if a recall is instituted and can be adjusted and modified as the recall unfolds.

The objective is to combine the team’s skills and experience to implement and periodically review product safety evaluation procedures, product recall plans, and product safety concerns raised internally or by user or governmental inquiries and complaints.

Product Recall

A product recall is a request from a manufacturer to return a product after the discovery of safety issues or product defects that might endanger the consumer or put the maker/seller at risk of legal action.

Such regulations may include how much of the cost the maker will have to bear, situations in which a recall is compulsory, or penalties for failure to recall.

The firm may also initiate a recall voluntarily, perhaps subject to the same regulations as if the recall were compulsory.

In some cases the government can also request a recall of a product.

Product recall announcements are released on the respective government agency’s website, as well as in paid notices in the metropolitan daily newspapers.

What Is Master Data Management?

Master data management includes the tools and processes an organization uses to establish a single source of truth for all its critical data.

Through master data management, an organization can disseminate consistent and accurate master data across its entire enterprise.

While a data management system collects, organizes, protects, and stores all of an organization’s data, master data management objectives include organizing, centralizing, and updating only master data.

Master data management should also not be confused with enterprise data management, which involves inventorying and governing your business’s data and getting your organization on-board with the process.

If your organization is very large or complex, distributes data often, or frequently goes through mergers and acquisitions, a master data management solution is likely to help solve some of your critical data challenges.

With master data management capabilities, your organization can improve their master data quality, resulting in fewer errors and less redundancy.

A master data management solution would oversee and assist in the creating, reading, updating, and deleting cycle of this master data.

What Is Master Data Management?

What is the difference between Master Data Management technology and MDM as a discipline?

As a discipline, MDM relies heavily on the principles of data governance with the goal of creating a trusted and authoritative view of a company’s data.

Master data management creates a master record that contains the essential information upon which a business or organization relies.

One easily understood type of master data is reference data.

As data sources are added to the system, MDM initiates processes to identify, collect, transform, and repair data.

Master Data Management

Master data management is a technology-enabled discipline in which business and information technology work together to ensure the uniformity, accuracy, stewardship, semantic consistency and accountability of the enterprise’s official shared master data assets.

At a basic level, master data management seeks to ensure that an organization does not use multiple versions of the same master data in different parts of its operations, which can occur in large organizations.

Master data management of disparate data systems requires data transformations as the data extracted from the disparate source data system is transformed and loaded into the master data management hub.

To synchronize the disparate source master data, the managed master data extracted from the master data management hub is again transformed and loaded into the disparate source data system as the master data is updated.

The Data Steward is running the master data management on behalf of the data owner and probably also being an advisor to the Data Owner.

Processes commonly seen in master data management include source identification, data collection, data transformation, normalization, rule administration, error detection and correction, data consolidation, data storage, data distribution, data classification, taxonomy services, item master creation, schema mapping, product codification, data enrichment, hierarchy management, business semantics management and data governance.

A master data management tool can be used to support master data management by removing duplicates, standardizing data, and incorporating rules to eliminate incorrect data from entering the system in order to create an authoritative source of master data.

What Is Assessment? / Accreditation & Assessment / About / Westminster College

Assessment involves the use of empirical data on student learning to refine programs and improve student learning.

Assessment is the process of gathering and discussing information from multiple and diverse sources in order to develop a deep understanding of what students know, understand, and can do with their knowledge as a result of their educational experiences; the process culminates when assessment results are used to improve subsequent learning.

Assessment is the systematic collection, review, and use of information about educational programs undertaken for the purpose of improving student learning and development.

Assessment at Westminster begins with the goals for student learning articulated in the College Mission and Outcomes Statements.

Assessment at these levels provides information that enables the College to determine the extent to which its goals for student learning are being met.

Learner-Centered Assessment on College Campuses: shifting the focus from teaching to learning by Huba and Freed 2000).

Westminster has translated these fundamental components into an assessment cycle that includes four stages: Plan-Do-Check-Act.

Assessment

What is Assessment? Assessment is the process of observing and measuring learning.

Assessments provide faculty with a better understanding of what your students are learning and engage students more deeply in the process of learning geoscience content.

By using assessment strategies that draw students into the assessment process it is more likely that they learn more of the geoscience content that you want them to learn while getting the added benefits of learning skills that will be useful to them in the future.

Why Is Assessment Important? By deliberately using different Functions of Assessments at specific times during the learning process students will have a clearer vision of what is expected of them and generally will be more positive about their course experiences.

There might be some questions you have yourself, such as, “How do I know my students learned anything? Have they met my learning objectives for the unit? Are they ready to tackle more abstract conceptual ideas in the geosciences?” By learning how to use the assessment strategies in this module, you will reduce student anxiety and it is likely that they will learn and remember more of what you want them to know.

Examples of Assessment in Various Learning Settings Geoscientists teach and learn in the laboratory, classroom and in the field.

Click on the following link to see examples of assessment in several learning settings.

“Students develop an interest in mathematical tasks that they understand, see as relevant to their own concerns, and can manage. Recent studies of students’ emotional responses to mathematics suggest that both their positive and their negative responses diminish as tasks become familiar and increase when tasks are novel” Douglas B. McLeod.

Assignments assess your students on a particular skill with a set number of questions and can be differentiated for individual students or groups of students.

Unlike ipsative assessments, where the student is only competing against themselves, norm-referenced assessments draw from a wide range of data points to make conclusions about student achievement.

Criterion-referenced assessments compare the score of an individual student to a learning standard and performance level, independent of other students around them.

In the classroom, this means measuring student performance against grade-level standards and can include end-of-unit or final tests to assess student understanding.

While student grades provide a useful picture of achievement and help you communicate progress to school leaders and parents, the ultimate goal of assessments is to improve student learning.

Now your students are masters at multiplying fractions! And when standardized testing season rolls around, you know which of your students need additional support – and where.

The largest pipeline network in the United States is that used to transport natural gas from transmission pipelines to residential and commercial customers.

Achieving pipeline throughput depends on failure-free operations, which are feasible through efficient pipeline system design, appropriate coating system selection, best pipeline route selection, effective construction planning, and an optimum maintenance policy.

Pipelines have traditionally been the most cost effective means of transporting the many different types of fluids handled by the oil and gas industry and, as a result, an extraordinarily complex and sophisticated network of different types of pipelines now extends throughout the whole industry.

The different types of pipeline that exist in the oil and gas industry reflect the variety of fluids transported, the location of the pipelines and the specific use to which the pipelines are employed.

Natural gas pipelines: In a similar way there are a variety of natural gas pipelines.

Although lenders to pipeline projects generally take the view that pipeline technical risks are lower compared to other types of project in the industry, the specific nature of the pipeline risks needs to be accommodated in the project finance structures.

Between the mid-1920s and the mid-1930s, the combination of abundant and inexpensive southwestern natural gas production, improved pipeline technology, and increasing nationwide natural gas demand led to the creation of the new interstate gas pipeline industry.

What Is Pipeline Transport – Michigan Law Entrepreneurship Clinic

The current development trend of pipeline transportation is: the caliber of pipeline is increasing, and the transportation capacity is increasing significantly; the distance of pipeline is increasing rapidly; the transportation of materials from oil, natural gas, chemicals and other fluids is gradually expanded to coal, ores and other non-fluids.

Large transport volume pipeline transportation can eliminate the bad transit section of water or land transport, shorten the transport cycle, reduce transport costs and improve transport efficiency.

The current development trend of pipeline transportation is: the caliber of the pipeline is increasing, the transport capacity has increased significantly; the distance of the pipeline is rapidly increasing; the transport of materials from oil, natural gas, chemical products and other fluids gradually expanded to coal, ores and other non-fluids.

Compared with railroad transportation, the experts of the Transport Association have made a calculation: the construction of a 7,000-kilometer-long pipeline along the main flow of refined oil products will generate comprehensive social and economic benefits, only reducing transportation costs, saving power consumption and reducing losses in transportation, which can save about 1 billion yuan a year; and for oil transportation with flammable characteristics For oil transportation with flammable characteristics, pipeline transportation has the characteristics of safety and confinement.

Transport pipelines are usually buried underground, which occupies very little land; the construction practice of the transport system proves that the part of the transport pipeline buried underground accounts for more than 95% of the total length of the pipeline, thus the permanent occupation of land is very little, respectively, only 3% of the highway, about 10% of the railroad, in the transportation planning system, give priority to the pipeline transport program, for saving land resources, is of great significance.

Since oil and natural gas is flammable, explosive, volatile and easy to leak, the use of pipeline transportation is safe and can greatly reduce volatile losses, while air, water and soil pollution caused by leakage can also be greatly reduced, that is to say, pipeline transportation can better meet the green requirements of transportation projects, in addition, since the pipeline is basically buried in the ground, its transportation process of harsh and variable climate conditions have little impact In addition, since the pipeline is basically buried underground, its transportation process has little impact on the harsh and changing weather conditions, which can ensure the long-term stable operation of the transportation system.

Developed countries use pipelines to transport oil, the energy consumption per ton kilometer is less than 1/7 of the railroad, and the transportation cost in large quantities is close to that of water transportation, so in the absence of water conditions, the use of pipeline transport is one of the most energy-efficient transport methods.

Coating pipeline to prevent corrosion – Special coatings are applied to the pipe to ensure that it can ‘survive’ in the environment for as long as it is required.

Subterranean pipelines have very little exposure to natural elements whereas above-surface pipelines are designed to withstand the affects if adverse environments and weather.

Lower energy use: Pipeline systems tend to require much lower amounts of energy to operate and therefore larger volumes of materials can be transported for much lower costs.

Environmentally friendly: pipeline transport lines are much less damaging to the environment and have a lower carbon footprint than other methods of transportation because they are sealed and mostly underground.

Article About Pipeline Transportation By The Free Dictionary

A method of transportation in which liquid, gaseous, or solid products are moved over long distances through pipelines.

Trunk lines include natural-gas and petroleum pipelines, which usually carry the product from the place of its extraction to the sites of processing and consumption, to industrial plants, or to seaports for transshipment to tankers and continued transportation.

Pipeline transportation is also used within industrial plants, where other products suitable for this mode of conveyance are transported in order to continue the production process.

Pipelines in tank farms, industrial pipelines for petroleum, natural gas, and mixed products on oil fields, and municipal pipeline networks for natural-gas distribution, water supply, and sewerage are also part of pipeline transportation.

Pipeline transportation is a progressive and economically advantageous mode of transportation.

As a consequence, transportation costs are lowered-for liquid goods, for example, the costs of pipeline transportation are one-third of those for railroad transport.

Further development of trunk pipelines is linked to an increase in pipe diameter and the pressure of natural gas or petroleum conveyed through the pipeline and to the provision of compressor units for higher pressures.

Pipeline Transportation:Types, Advantages And Disadvantages Of Pipeline Transport

Pipeline transportation is one of themodes of transport that involves the use of hollow pipes in the transportation of water, crude oil,, biofuels and gas.

Their uses today are beyond just the transportation of water, pipelines are majorly used to transport a variety of commodities like oil, natural gas, milk, chemicals and heavier gas products like propane and butane and even some solids like coal.

The longest single pipeline is in Russia where the Friendship Pipeline carries oil across 4828km from the Ural-Volga region to the satellite states of Eastern Europe.

Here’s everything you need to know about the historic KXL fight, its eventual takedown, and what it now means for pipelines still waiting in the wings.

What Is Keystone XL? The Keystone XL pipeline extension, proposed by TC Energy in 2008, was initially designed to transport the planet’s dirtiest fossil fuel, tar sands oil, to market-and fast.

As an expansion of the company’s existing Keystone Pipeline System, which has been operating since 2010, the pipeline promised to dramatically increase capacity to process the 168 billion barrels of crude oil locked up under Canada’s boreal forest.

In 2015, the U.S. State Department, under President Barack Obama, declined to grant the northern leg of the Keystone XL project the permit required to construct, maintain, and operate the pipeline across the U.S.-Canada border-a permit that President Trump later granted and President Biden once again revoked.

The Best Portable Projectors For 2022

As projectors have come down in size, portable models have come into their own, making it possible for you to project your data and video anywhere you go.

Portable projectors encompass a surprisingly wide range in size, brightness, and features.

So-called palmtop projectors are larger than pico projectors, typically a bit too large to fit comfortably in the palm of your hand, even with your fingers outstretched.

The vast majority of pico, palmtop, and other small projectors are LED-based, and most use TI’s Digital Light Processing technology in their light engines.

Single-chip DLP projectors often show potentially annoying rainbow artifacts, but this so-called rainbow effect tends to be more of a problem in standard projectors than in pico or palmtop models.

Larger portable projectors vary in technology, most being either DLP or liquid-crystal display.

POLISCAN Surveillance-Automatic License Plate Recognition

With automated license plate readers, high read rates are crucial to ensuring efficiency.

With POLISCAN Surveillance, you can capture and process number plates with minimal personnel costs.

VITRONIC’s laser-triggered systems also read international number plates with the highest degree of accuracy at the highest speeds.

They can easily identify both approaching and receding traffic and can read number plates in all weather conditions.

As a result, they can target and identify wanted cars immediately.

Automatic Number Plate Recognition

It’s easy to decode a license plate from a high-res photo of a vehicle on a sunny day.

Our ANPR engine is like a teenager, it continues to learn.

See how we worked to improve our ANPR for India license plates!

Some have icons at the beginning, middle or end of the plate.

Thankfully, our ANPR engine supports them all and is tuned specifically for your region.

Unlike other ANPR providers, we can return up to 5 decoded license plates from one image.

One identifies all the photos of license plates from an image and the other decodes each character of the plate.

The above function works by taking image as input, then applying ‘haar cascade’ that is pre-trained to detect Indian license plates, here the parameter scaleFactor stands for a value by which input image can be scaled for better detection of license plate.

Convert the colored image to a grey scaled image i.e instead of 3 channels, the image only has a single 8-bit channel with values ranging from 0-255 where 0 corresponds to black and 255 corresponds to white.

Now the threshold function converts the grey scaled image to a binary image i.e each pixel will now have a value of 0 or 1 where 0 corresponds to black and 1 corresponds to white.

For pixels having value below 200, in the new binary image that pixel will be given a value of 0.The image is now in binary form and ready for the next process Eroding.

The function works similar to eroding but with a little catch, it works by considering each pixel in the image one by one and then considering the pixel’s neighbor, the pixel is given a value 1 if at least one of its neighboring pixels is 1.The next step now is to make the boundaries of the image white.

Through the above processes, we have reduced our image to a processed binary image and we are ready to pass this image for character extraction.

Finally, its time to test our model, remember the binary images of extracted characters from number plate? Let’s feed the images to our model!

Automatic Number-Plate Recognition

Automatic number-plate recognition is a technology that uses optical character recognition on images to read vehicle registration plates to create vehicle location data.

It first uses a series of image manipulation techniques to detect, normalize and enhance the image of the number plate, and then optical character recognition to extract the alphanumerics of the license plate.

On 11 March 2008, the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany ruled that some areas of the laws permitting the use of automated number plate recognition systems in Germany violated the right to privacy.

Several cities have tested-and some have put into service-the KGYS, i.e., capital Ankara, has debuted KGYS- which consists of a registration plate number recognition system on the main arteries and city exits.

What Is IV Therapy?

IV therapy can be used to treat many different medical conditions.

A visiting nurse or other healthcare provider will either administer the IV therapy in your home or teach you how to do it.

The IV therapy process starts with a healthcare professional inserting a needle attached to a small tube into a vein in your arm.

Usually, a nurse or other trained healthcare professional performs IV therapy.

You may need IV therapy if you cannot take oral medications or medications are not available in an oral form.

You may need multiple IV therapy treatments depending on your medical condition and other health factors.

IV therapy can be used to treat many medical conditions, including dehydration and malnutrition.

Intravenous Therapy

Intravenous therapy is a medical technique that delivers fluids, medications and nutrients directly into a person’s vein.

The intravenous route is the fastest way to deliver medications and fluid replacement throughout the body as they are introduced directly into the circulatory system and thus quickly distributed.

Intravenous access is used to administer medications and fluid replacement which must be distributed throughout the body, especially when rapid distribution is desired.

Whether a medication can be potentially switched to an oral form is sometimes considered when choosing appropriate antibiotic therapy for use in a hospital setting, as a person is unlikely to be discharged if they still require IV therapy.

A syringe containing the medication is connected to an access port in the primary tubing and the medication is administered through the port.

Medication is administered by injecting medication through the skin and the silicone port cover into the reservoir.

Infiltration is one of the most common adverse effects of IV therapy and is usually not serious unless the infiltrated fluid is a medication damaging to the surrounding tissue, most commonly a vesicant or chemotherapeutic agent.

What Is IV Therapy? What You Should Know

Your IV therapy may include different types of antioxidants, such as glutathione, or vitamins A, C or E.Antibiotics: In cases of infection, the patient will likely receive antibiotics via an IV bag.

The price of the therapy includes your in-home therapy and our travel.

A hangover IV therapy includes fluids to help rehydrate the body, vitamins to help improve your energy levels and medication to reduce the painful symptoms of nausea, heartburn and headache.

Once you are connected to the IV, which is usually a quick and simple process, the duration of the therapy will depend on why you are undergoing IV therapy.

How quickly will you feel the effects of the IV drip? Again, the answer depends on why you are undergoing IV therapy.

IV bars: IV bars, sometimes called IV lounges, are designed to offer different IV therapies.

IV therapy ranges in cost, depending on the type of therapy and the provider.

Identify the advantages and disadvantages of intravenous therapy.

Intravenous therapy is the administration of medicines or fluids directly into a patient’s vein.

IV therapy is now an important aspect of medicines management; it is widely used in healthcare settings, particularly within the hospital environment.

Even in the early 2000s, it was recognised that up to 60% of patients admitted to hospital were likely to receive intravenous therapy via an intravenous device.

Activity 1.1.Why is IV therapy used in your own clinical setting? Is it the most appropriate route of administration? If not, can you identify reasons why this method is currently being used?

8.2 Intravenous Fluid Therapy – Clinical Procedures For Safer Patient Care

Intravenous therapy is an effective and fast-acting way to administer fluid or medication treatment in an emergency situation, and for patients who are unable to take medications orally.

If a patient is ill and has fluid loss related to decreased intake, surgery, vomiting, diarrhea, or diaphoresis, the patient may require IV therapy.

Every 72 to 96 hours and p.r.n. As soon as the patient is stable and no longer requires IV fluid therapy.

A central venous catheter, also known as a central line or central venous access device, is an intravenous catheter that is inserted into a large vein in the central circulation system, where the tip of the catheter terminates in the superior vena cava that leads to an area just above the right atrium.

All health care providers require specialized training to care for, manage complications related to, and maintain CVCs as per agency policy.

Accurate fluid balance assessments, monitor electrolytes and vital signs, provide chest auscultation, elevate head of bed, administer oxygen and diuretic therapy Mechanical complications A mechanical complication that mainly occurs during insertion of the CVC due to failure to correctly place the catheter, which may lead to asystolic cardiac arrest, bleeding, subcutaneous hematoma, hemothorax, catheter mal-position, or pneumothorax.

Catheter migration Patient may experience dysrhythmias caused by tip of the catheter moving from original position to an unwanted position.

Intravenous Immunoglobulin Treatment

In autoimmune diseases like lupus, the treatment may help your body raise low red-blood-cell counts.

In people with myositis, the treatment may block your immune system’s destruction of muscle cells.

You’ll probably go to an infusion center, hospital, clinic, or doctor’s office to get the treatment.

Your blood may break down about half of the immunoglobulin over that period, so you’ll need another dose to keep fighting infections.

You might feel your best soon after your treatment, when the highest amount of immunoglobulin is in your body.

You might feel your worst just before your next treatment.

If you have severe side effects from IVIg, you might be able to switch to another type of treatment called subcutaneous immunoglobulin therapy, or SCIG. You’d get shots with small amounts of immunoglobulin under your skin either once a week or every few days.

What Are Infusion Pumps? Definition, Parts, Working, Types

Because they can give fluids at specific frequencies, quantities, and intervals, infusion pumps are superior to manual fluid administration pumps.

Some infusion pumps can only control one intravenous line, while others have three pumps packed into one device.

There are three distinct types of infusion pumps.

There are two types of infusion pumps when it comes to using.

Ambulatory infusion pumps are small, lightweight infusion pumps that are commonly used to treat persons with chronic illnesses.

Because stationary infusion pumps do not require movement, they do not need to be as small and light as portable infusion pumps.

Through the infusion pump improvement plan, the FDA will work hard to formulate additional requirements for infusion pump manufacturers, actively promote equipment improvements, and increase user awareness to solve infusion pump problems.

IV INFUSION PUMPS PURPOSE To familiarize and acquaint the transfer Paramedic with the skills and knowledge necessary to adequately maintain IV infusion pumps and their respective agents in the interfacility transfer environment.

Page 27 TYPES OF IV PUMPS PERISTALTIC IV PUMPS Peristaltic pumps derive their name by the “Wave-like” action of the medication when it is delivered to the patient.

PISTON DRIVEN PUMPS Piston driven IV infusion pumps are similar to the action of a piston in an automobile.

Like the peristaltic IV pumps, these intravenous infusion devices are highly accurate.

Unlike the previously mentioned pump the piston driven pump is an excellent choice for fragile fluid products.

INDICATIONS There are two primary indications for the use of infusion pumps: Administer a specific amount of a pharmacologic agent Prevention of fluid overload PUMP CONTROLS IV infusion pumps are designed for ease of use.

There are three generic messages that could be shown by the infusion pump: No flow Tubing clamped High pressure occlusion Tubing clamped Device has occluded Device has infiltrated Volume infused Preset volume has been delivered to the patient Previous volume setting has not been deleted from programming TIPS FOR THE USE OF IV PUMPS Follow the manufacturer’s instructions when connecting the infusion tubing to the IV pump Be certain that all air is evacuated prior to attempting the infusion.

How Does An Infusion Pump Work?

An infusion pump is more effective than a manual injection pump because it can supply a controlled amount of liquids at an accurate frequency, interval, and volume.

The common type of infusion pump is a syringe pump, and here we will discuss the working of the syringe pump.

1) Types according to the infusion pump’s mobility i) Ambulatory Infusion Pump.

In contrast to an ambulatory infusion pump, a stationary infusion pump does not require a lightweight and compact design because it is a fixed pump and does not need to move.

The safety features of the infusion pump depend on the life cycle and brand of the pump.

Mechanisms to prevent uncontrolled drug flow in high volume infusion pump and to increase drug flow in syringe pumps.

What is an infusion pump used for? An infusion pump has the capability to deliver a small or large amount of fluids.

Five Of The Biggest Manufacturers Of Smart Infusion Pumps In The World

Smart infusion pumps, which are used to administer treatments to patients intravenously, look set to become the latest critical shortage caused by Covid-19, potentially putting further pressure on manufacturers.

With concerns over the availability of these devices growing, we’ve taken a look at five key companies manufacturing infusion pumps across the world – including giants in the healthcare sector and smaller, specialised firms.

It has been working on infusion technologies for nearly 50 years, and today produces several types of smart-connected pumps that all use its Agilia infusion system.

Q-Core’s infusion pumps are also notable for being small and light, achieving “Unprecedented” low cost of ownership, and the fact they come equipped with a full-colour touch-screen and user-friendly interface.

Many of these infusion pumps feature Guardrails safety software, which, according to the company’s website, reduces intravenous medication errors, tracks and measures system performance, and improves the overall quality of patient care.

Micrel sells several accessories designed to make its infusion pumps even more portable, including battery packs, power adaptors and rucksacks to carry the devices in.

The Illinois-based company bought fellow US firm Sigma in 2012, acquiring its pipeline of Spectrum smart infusion pumps.
