One should bear in mind that rack and pinion or scotch and yoke actuators, which are used for ball valve automation, stand horizontally when the valve is connected to a horizontal pipe, whereas linear actuators stand vertically when the TCG valve is connected to horizontally installed piping.

A gate valve consists of a valve body, seat and disc, a spindle, gland, and a wheel for operating the valve.

The expansion of the valve closure member due to the stem axial force is called “Wedging effect.” Expanding gate valves are also torque seated valves with a closure member in two sections, one male and the other female.

Double expanding is the preferred choice of valve for very dirty services in high temperature ranges above 200°C.TCG valves are not recommended for fluid control since prolonged usage under throttling will result in quick damage to the seats of the valves as well as internal valve components.

Gate valves have a long history of use in subsea blowout preventer stacks, trees, and manifolds and are considered relatively reliable devices because both the valve and the valve actuators have been through extensive development with proven field use and design improvements.

In some deepwater applications, ball valves can provide operational and cost advantages over gate valves, and improvements in nonmetallic seals and coatings are raising the reliability of ball valves.

Gate valves use a sliding plate within the valve body to stop, limit, or permit full flow of fluids through the valve.

Gate valves are multi-purpose bi-directional shutoff valves for commercial and industrial applications.

Gate Valves: Types Of Gate Valves – HPD TEAM

A gate valve is a linear motion valve used to regulates, control, or directs the flow of a fluid by opening, closing, or partially obstructing fluid flow.

Gate valves require very little space along the pipe axis and hardly restrict the flow of fluid when the gate is fully opened.

In this article, we cover the types and classifications of valves of valves.

Gate valves are used in almost all fluid services such as air, fuel gas, feedwater, steam, lube oil, hydrocarbon, and most any services.

Globe valve provides better shut off as compared to gate valve and it is costlier than a gate valve.

Most ball valves are of the quick-acting type, which requires a 90° turn of the valve handle to operate the valve.

Terfly Valve is suitable for large valve applications due to Compact, lightweight design that requires considerably less space, as compared to other valves.

Introduction To Gate Valves And Gate Valve Types

A Gate valve is a linear-motion manual valve that has a vertical rectangular or circular disc that slides across an opening to stop the flow that acts as “Gate”.

A full port gate valve provides a full line size thus results in a minimum-flow pressure drop, On the other hand, A Reduced port gate valve smaller than the line size causes a slightly high-pressure drop than a full port.

Solid wedge gate valves in waterworks industry are popular as Sluice valves.

The stem rises while opening and lower while closing the valve offering an indication of the gate valve position.

When the gate of the valve is lifted from the flow path, the valve opens and when the gate again returns to its position, the gate valve closes.

There are a few differences between the gate valve and the ball valve.

CostGate valves are Relatively cheaperCostlierTurning of lever or hand-wheelMulti-TurnQuarter-turnWeightWeight of Gate valve is normally less than ball valves for same size and rating.

Gate Valve

A gate valve, also known as a sluice valve, is a valve that opens by lifting a barrier out of the path of the fluid.

Gate valves require very little space along the pipe axis and hardly restrict the flow of fluid when the gate is fully opened.

The gate faces can be parallel but are most commonly wedge-shaped.

Gate valves are used to shut off the flow of liquids rather than for flow regulation.

When fully open, the typical gate valve has no obstruction in the flow path, resulting in very low flow resistance.

The size of the open flow path generally varies in a nonlinear manner as the gate is moved.

Depending on the construction, a partially open gate can vibrate from the fluid flow.

Mountain Bike

A mountain bike or mountain bicycle is a bicycle designed for off-road cycling.

Many pro-level mountain bikers have taken to using a narrower 10-speed road chain with a 9-speed setup in an effort to reduce the weight of their bike.

Many new mountain bikes integrate a “Full suspension” design known as dual suspension, meaning that both the front and rear wheel are fitted with a shock absorber in some form as the wheel attaches to the bike.

Dual suspension bikes of a similar quality are considerably more expensive, but this price increase brings an enormous off-road performance upgrade as dual suspension bikes are much faster on downhill and technical/rough sections, than other forms of the mountain bike.

Mountain bikes with 24 inch wheels are also available, sometimes for dirt jumping, or as a junior bike.

“Bicycle wheel sizes are not precise measurements: a 29-inch mountain bike wheel with a 622 millimetres bead seat diameter, is used in the ETRTO tire and rim sizing system), and the average 29” mountain bike tire is 59-622 corresponds to an outside diameter of about 29.15 inches.

“622 mm wheels are standard on road bikes and are commonly known as 700C. In some countries, mainly in Continental Europe, 700C wheels are commonly called 28 inch wheels. 24 inch wheels are used for dirt jumping bikes and sometimes on freeride bikes, rear wheel only, as this makes the bike more maneuverable. 29 inch wheels were once used for only cross country purposes, but are now becoming more commonplace in other disciplines of mountain biking. A mountain bike with 29” wheels is often referred to as a 29er, and a bike with 27.5 inch wheels is called a 27.5 mountain bike or as a marketing term ″650B bike″.

Using an acceleration voltage of 200 keV gives the electrons a wavelength of ∼1 pm, which gives a much higher resolution compared to optical microscopes where the wavelength is ∼100 nm.6.3.1 Scanning electron microscopyScanning electron microscope.

6.3.2 Transmission electron microscopyWith transmission electron microscopy, it is possible to resolve features in the range of 1 A°. In TEM, a beam of electrons is transmitted through a thin sample and the electrons are scattered in the specimen.

Scanning Electron Microscope

A scanning electron microscope is a type of electron microscope that produces images of a sample by scanning the surface with a focused beam of electrons.

In the most common SEM mode, secondary electrons emitted by atoms excited by the electron beam are detected using a secondary electron detector.

Although Max Knoll produced a photo with a 50 mm object-field-width showing channeling contrast by the use of an electron beam scanner, it was Manfred von Ardenne who in 1937 invented a microscope with high resolution by scanning a very small raster with a demagnified and finely focused electron beam.

Ardenne applied scanning of the electron beam in an attempt to surpass the resolution of the transmission electron microscope, as well as to mitigate substantial problems with chromatic aberration inherent to real imaging in the TEM. He further discussed the various detection modes, possibilities and theory of SEM, together with the construction of the first high resolution SEM. Further work was reported by Zworykin’s group, followed by the Cambridge groups in the 1950s and early 1960s headed by Charles Oatley, all of which finally led to the marketing of the first commercial instrument by Cambridge Scientific Instrument Company as the “Stereoscan” in 1965, which was delivered to DuPont.

Characteristic X-rays are emitted when the electron beam removes an inner shell electron from the sample, causing a higher-energy electron to fill the shell and release energy.

Nonconductive specimens collect charge when scanned by the electron beam, and especially in secondary electron imaging mode, this causes scanning faults and other image artifacts.

The Everhart-Thornley detector, which is normally positioned to one side of the specimen, is inefficient for the detection of backscattered electrons because few such electrons are emitted in the solid angle subtended by the detector, and because the positively biased detection grid has little ability to attract the higher energy BSE. Dedicated backscattered electron detectors are positioned above the sample in a “Doughnut” type arrangement, concentric with the electron beam, maximizing the solid angle of collection.

Scanning Electron Microscopes

Since the introduction of electron microscopes in the 1930s, scanning electron microscopy has developed into a critical tool within numerous different research fields, spanning everything from materials science, to forensics, to industrial manufacturing, and even to the life sciences.

As soon as microscopic information about the surface or near-surface region of a specimen is needed, SEM becomes a necessary tool.

For that reason, the method finds applications in nearly every branch of science, technology and industry.

Floor model SEMs offer the flexibility and versatility to meet a wide range of academic and industrial needs: support for large and heavy samples, a very wide range of accessories, excellent imaging quality for the most challenging materials or the smallest details, and dynamic experimentation.

Thermo Fisher Scientific is dedicated to producing analytical SEMs that are ideally suited for your specific needs.

We offer a range of versatile tools, everything from our easy-to-use Thermo Scientific Phenom Desktop SEMs to powerhouse instruments capable of unparalleled resolution and contrast like the Thermo Scientific Verios SEM..

Electron microscopy In the 1920s, researchers found out that an electron beam in vacuum behaves much like light does: electrons also exhibit wave-like properties-however, with a wavelength that is about 100,000 times shorter than that of visible light.

In some cases, this means a major challenge that could completely prevent the application of the TEM. Scanning electron microscopy In SEM, the electron beam scans the sample in a raster-pattern.

These so-called secondary electrons, as well as the backscattered electrons, can serve as signal to build up the final image.

What are the similarities? Both SEM and TEM have in common some major components: An electron source Several electromagnetic and electrostatic lenses to control the shape and trajectory of the electron beam Electron apertures A sample chamber which is put under high-vacuum What are the differences? Whereas SEM gives information about the surface of the analyzed object, TEM allows information to be obtained about the inner structure of the sample.

How exactly does an SEM work and what do you need to know about this technology? Below, we answer the most commonly asked questions about SEM. What is SEM? An SEM is a type of electron microscope that uses an electron beam to scan the sample.

Scanning Electron Microscope- Definition, Principle, Parts, Images

The first Scanning Electron Microscope was initially made by Mafred von Ardenne in 1937 with an aim to surpass the transmission electron Microscope.

The price of the Scanning Electron Microscope is approximately $1 million.

Scanning Electron Microscope is a type of electron microscope that scans surfaces of microorganisms that uses a beam of electrons moving at low energy to focus and scan specimens.

Unlike the Transmission Electron Microscope which uses transmitted electrons, the scanning electron Microscope uses emitted electrons.

The Scanning electron microscope works on the principle of applying kinetic energy to produce signals on the interaction of the electrons.

Like the transmission electron Microscope, the Scanning electron microscope should be free from vibrations and any electromagnetic elements.

The combination of the working principles of the Scanning Electron Microscope and the Transmission Electron Microscope formed the Scanning-Transmission Electron Microscope.

Scaffolding Definition

In education, scaffolding refers to a variety of instructional techniques used to move students progressively toward stronger understanding and, ultimately, greater independence in the learning process.

If students are not at the reading level required to understand a text being taught in a course, the teacher might use instructional scaffolding to incrementally improve their reading ability until they can read the required text independently and without assistance.

One of the main goals of scaffolding is to reduce the negative emotions and self-perceptions that students may experience when they get frustrated, intimidated, or discouraged when attempting a difficult task without the assistance, direction, or understanding they need to complete it.

As a general instructional strategy, scaffolding shares many similarities with differentiation, which refers to a wide variety of teaching techniques and lesson adaptations that educators use to instruct a diverse group of students, with diverse learning needs, in the same course, classroom, or learning environment.

Because scaffolding and differentiation techniques are used to achieve similar instructional goals-i.e., moving student learning and understanding from where it is to where it needs to be-the two approaches may be blended together in some classrooms to the point of being indistinguishable.

A teacher may orally describe a concept to students, use a slideshow with visual aids such as images and graphics to further explain the idea, ask several students to illustrate the concept on the blackboard, and then provide the students with a reading and writing task that asks them articulate the concept in their own words.

The teacher reviews the words most likely to give students trouble, using metaphors, analogies, word-image associations, and other strategies to help students understand the meaning of the most difficult words they will encounter in the text.

David Palmer-Jones patented the “Scaffixer”, a coupling device far more robust than rope which revolutionized scaffolding construction.

Bamboo scaffolding is a type of scaffolding made from bamboo and widely used in construction work for centuries.

They should complete a formal training in bamboo scaffolding work or hold a trade test certificate on bamboo scaffolding and have at least 10 years of relevant experience.

Bamboo scaffolding does not need to have a foundation on the ground, as long as the scaffolding has a fulcrum for structural support.

Types of scaffolding covered by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration in the United States include the following categories: Pole; tube and coupler; fabricated frame; plasterers’, decorators’, and large area scaffolds; bricklayers’; horse; form scaffolds and carpenters’ bracket scaffolds; roof brackets; outrigger; pump jacks; ladder jacks; window jacks; crawlingboards; step, platform, and trestle ladder scaffolds; single-point adjustable suspension; two-point adjustable suspension; multipoint adjustable suspension; stonesetters’ multipoint adjustable suspension scaffolds, and masons’ multipoint adjustable suspension scaffolds; catenary; float; interior hung; needle beam; multilevel suspended; mobile; repair bracket scaffolds; and stilts.

The purpose for this alternative method is to create a good anchoring point for additional vertical scaffolding to clamp on to, most commonly used in live events and festivals with scaffolding poles up to 21 feet high where festoon lighting, cabling and bunting can be hung from safely.

The widespread use of scaffolding systems, along with the profound importance that they earned in modern applications such as civil engineering projects and temporary structures, led to the definition of a series of standards covering a vast number of specific issues involving scaffolding.

Ventilator/Ventilator Support

You may be put on a mechanical ventilator if a condition makes it very difficult for you to breathe or get enough oxygen into your blood.

Mechanical ventilators are machines that act as bellows to move air in and out of your lungs.

Your respiratory therapist and doctor set the ventilator to control how often it pushes air into your lungs and how much air you get.

You may be fitted with a mask to get air from the ventilator into your lungs.

Mechanical ventilators are mainly used in hospitals and in transport systems such as ambulances and MEDEVAC air transport etc.

Being on a ventilator may make you more susceptible to pneumonia, damage to your vocal cords, or other problems.

Explore this Health Topic to learn more about ventilators, our role in clinical trials, and where to find more information.

How A Ventilator Works. And Why You Don’T Want To Need One.

Some of the sickest patients with COVID-19 need a ventilator to breathe.

Ventilators, often referred to as life support machines, are used in intensive care units for patients who cannot breathe on their own.

Many of the sickest patients with COVID-19 need the assistance of a ventilator to survive.

Throughout the course of the pandemic, about half of the patients in UAB’s COVID-19 ICU have been on a ventilator.

“With the virus causing so much damage to the lungs, the ventilator allows the patient to rest and to heal while the machine does the work of the lungs.”

King says, while a ventilator might save your life, it is certainly not a pleasant experience.

While a young and healthy person with COVID-19 might not need a ventilator, there are others who will.

Ventilators And COVID-19: What You Need To Know > News > Yale Medicine

If lung function has been severely impaired-due to injury or an illness such as COVID-19-patients may need a ventilator.

Yale Medicine’s Lauren Ferrante, MD, MHS, a pulmonary and critical care specialist, explains how ventilators work and why they are sometimes necessary for battling a COVID-19 infection.

A ventilator is typically used in a hospital’s intensive care unit, though those who need it for a longer period of time may be in a different part of the hospital, at a rehabilitation facility, or even at home.

“Often, we see oxygenation improve quickly. We are using this a lot for COVID patients on a ventilator, and for those who are in the hospital on oxygen. It can help COVID patients from needing the ventilator.”

Some people may need to be on a ventilator for a few hours, while others may require one, two, or three weeks.

“As you improve, the support comes down to what we call ‘minimal vent settings,’ meaning you don’t need a lot of oxygen through the ventilator, and you don’t need higher pressures.”

Ventilators can be life-saving and many of those who’ve survived severe cases of COVID-19 would be unlikely to have made it without one.

Ventilators For Coronavirus: What Are They, How It Works & When To Use Them

About 1 in 4 of them may need a ventilator to help them breathe.

Your doctor might call it a “Mechanical ventilator.” People also often refer to it as a “Breathing machine” or “Respirator.” Technically, a respirator is a mask that medical workers wear when they care for someone with a contagious illness.

A ventilator mechanically helps pump oxygen into your body.

The ventilator can be set to take a certain number of breaths for you per minute.

Some people on ventilators may not be able to eat and drink normally.

A ventilator doesn’t cure COVID-19 or other illnesses that caused your breathing problem.

The ventilator stays connected but set so that you can try to breathe on your own.

A ventilator is a machine that provides mechanical ventilation by moving breathable air into and out of the lungs, to deliver breaths to a patient who is physically unable to breathe, or breathing insufficiently.

Fine-tuned ventilator settings also serve to make ventilation more tolerable and comfortable for the patient.

Noninvasive methods, such as continuous positive airway pressure and non-invasive ventilation, which are adequate for patients who require a ventilator only while sleeping and resting, mainly employ a nasal mask.

An open-source ventilator is a disaster-situation ventilator made using a freely-licensed design, and ideally, freely-available components and parts.

Although not formally open-sourced, the Ventec V+ Pro ventilator was developed in April 2020 as a shared effort between Ventec Life Systems and General Motors, to provide a rapid supply of 30,000 ventilators capable of treating COVID-19 patients.

A major worldwide design effort began during the 2019-2020 coronavirus pandemic after a Hackaday project was started, in order to respond to expected ventilator shortages causing higher mortality rate among severe patients.

On April 23, 2020, NASA reported building, in 37 days, a successful COVID-19 ventilator, named VITAL. On April 30, NASA reported receiving fast-track approval for emergency use by the United States Food and Drug Administration for the new ventilator.

Ventilators: What Are They And When Are They Used?

A ventilator is a machine that helps a person breathe.

When is a ventilator used? A ventilator is used during and sometimes after surgery when general anesthesia is given.

A ventilator helps the person continue to breathe during surgery.

A ventilator can also be used if the person has a condition that affects normal breathing.

What else do I need to know about a ventilator? Ventilators can be invasive or non-invasive.

How will the ventilator be removed? When a person’s condition gets better, healthcare providers will try to let him or her breathe on his or her own.

The person may have to stay on the ventilator for a longer period if he or she cannot breathe on his or her own.

What Is A Ventilator And Why Would You Need One?

For very complicated surgeries, a patient may need a ventilator to help them breathe for hours or longer after surgery.

The length of time you’ll be on a ventilator depends on the reason you need help breathing.

If you need a ventilator during surgery, you’ll typically only be on a ventilator while you’re in a sleep-like state.

If you need a ventilator for a health condition, you may need to be on it for hours, days, weeks or longer.

Being on a ventilator while you’re conscious can be very uncomfortable, especially if you’re on a ventilator that has a breathing tube down your throat.

If you’ve been on a ventilator for a long time, you may have difficulty breathing on your own once the ventilator isn’t breathing for you.

How long you’re on a ventilator depends on how long you need help breathing or how long it takes for your underlying condition to be treated.

How To Make A Heat Sealer

A PIC microcontroller, custom programmed to provide the pulse and to be user-programmable on the fly so that it can be instantly adjusted for a myriad of wire length, power supply, and bag thickness combinations, using only a single button! 4.

“So, what’s going on here? Well, ohm’s law is a good place to start. I began by taking a look at my available power source… a 19.5v, 3.16A powerbrick for a laptop. My particular nichrome wire has a resistance of 4.4 ohms per foot. So in making a 12” heat sealer, I use just over a foot length of nichrome wire.

Make sure you don’t pull towards your eye, in case the wire breaks while you are doing this!

Tension is important, because the wire stretches when heated.

If there’s not enough tension, the wire will “Walk” during the impulse.

“The best bags for heatsealing are polyethylene or polypropylene bags. The more they stretch when pulled, the better. The bags can make a big difference in how strong a seal you get. The bags I use are polyethylene, 2 mil thick, 9×12” bags made by Uline.

Well, the longest part by a long shot was to obtain the wire and to program the pic.

A mortgage broker’s work and duties vary depending on their service offerings and liabilities.

Since a mortgage broker serves as the middleman between lenders and borrowers, the process often begins with a client wishing to buy a new home or seeking to refinance.

The client approaches a mortgage broker, and the broker approaches different lenders and finds out the requirements and rates to provide options suited to their situation.

The broker then submits the financing application to a lender for approval, acting as a liaison for the lender and the borrower during the entire process.

Brokers tend to be well acquainted with lenders and are trusted by lenders.

Brokers may not always find the ideal financing for their clients, and sometimes, lenders offer the same rates to the broker, as they would with any other client.

The compensation varies from lender to lender; thus, the broker can source a deal that boosts their compensation.

Mortgage Broker Definition

A mortgage broker is an intermediary who brings mortgage borrowers and mortgage lenders together, but who does not use their own funds to originate mortgages.

A mortgage broker helps borrowers connect with lenders and seeks out the best fit in terms of the borrower’s financial situation and interest-rate needs.

The mortgage broker also gathers paperwork from the borrower and passes that paperwork along to a mortgage lender for underwriting and approval purposes.

A mortgage broker should not be confused with a mortgage banker, which closes and funds a mortgage with its own funds.

Whether a potential borrower is buying a new home or refinancing, a broker gathers loan options from various lenders for the borrower to consider, while qualifying the borrower for a mortgage with those lenders at the same time.

Once agreed upon, mortgage funds are loaned in the name of the mortgage lender, and the mortgage broker collects a commission called an origination fee from the lender as compensation for its services.

Borrowers should search online reviews and ask for referrals from real estate agents, friends, and family to find a mortgage broker who has the right credentials for the borrower’s level of experience.

Hesteel Group Company Limited is a Chinese iron and steel manufacturing conglomerate, also known as Hesteel Group or its pinyin shortname Hegang.

The company was also known as Hebei Iron and Steel Group Co., Ltd. or HBIS until 2016.

Hesteel Group is the second-largest steel producer in the world measured by crude steel output in 2015, according to the World Steel Association.

After the announcement of the merger of Baosteel Group and Wuhan Iron and Steel Corporation in September 2016, Baowu Steel Group’s pro forma production volume in 2015 would be the second in the world, exceeding Hesteel Group.

Hesteel Group, Baosteel Group and WISCO all announced the cut in production capacity, in response to the market demand and government policy, thus the final ranking could not be predicted.

By net assets, Baosteel Group’s subsidiary was already exceeding the net assets of Hesteel Group as of 31 December 2015.

Hesteel Group had a second-tier subsidiary listed at the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, Hesteel Company, which is controlled by the direct subsidiaries Hansteel Group and Tangsteel Group of Hesteel Group.

The People’S Map Of Global China

In 2016, the Smederevo steel plant was acquired by Hesteel, a provincial state-owned enterprise from Hebei, and one of the largest steel makers in the world.

Following a collapse in steel prices, US Steel sold the plant back to the government of Serbia in 2012 for 1 USD. The next three years saw the plant managed by a private consultancy firm.

The staunchest opposition to the acquisition came from outside Serbia, with the European steel industry going as far as calling the plant a ‘Trojan horse’ for Chinese steel dumping.

Governance: Off-loading the steel plant has been a long-standing priority for Serbia, which subsidised the plant with up to USD 100 million annually before Hesteel acquired it.

The rapid increase in production and sales did not go unnoticed by the European steel manufacturers’ association, EUROFER, which alleged the plant will serve as a ‘Trojan Horse’ for Chinese steel overproduction.

EUROFER then sued the Commission in 2017, alleging the Chinese takeover will result in a tripling of export to the European Union, and that the Chinese controlling interest makes it more likely Serbia is price-dumping its steel, rather than just following global prices.

As of February 2021, Serbia remains exempt from punitive tariffs, but increased production and export volumes, coupled with concerns over the internationalisation of Chinese steel overproduction, will fuel future disputes over Serbia’s steel exports into the European Union.

ArcelorMittal Acquires John Lawrie Metals To Increase Sustainable Steel Production

As part of a strategy to increase the use of scrap steel to lower carbon emissions from its production, ArcelorMittal has acquired recycling company John Lawrie Metals.

John Lawrie Metals is based in Aberdeen, Scotland, and has three other sites in the country.

ArcelorMittal says John Lawrie Metals has access to a range of quality scrap steel from the United Kingdom’s oil and gas industry.

There are efforts with green hydrogen to use it as an energy source in steel production, as well as developing sustainable manufacturing sites that use electric blast furnaces, such as one being developed by US Steel in Arkansas.

Automakers like BMW are increasing the use of green and recycled steel in production.

John Lawrie Metals has two steel tubular supply operations in the United States and the UK but it was not known if they are part of the deal, according to Argus Media.

John Lawrie Metals will continue to be run by its current management team.

ArcelorMittal USA Sold To Cleveland-Cliffs For $1.4 Billion In End-Of-An-Era Merger

Cleveland-Cliffs Inc., a Cleveland-based iron ore and steel company that recently swelled in size by buying AK Steel for $1.1 billion, has reached an agreement with Luxembourg-based multinational steel giant ArcelorMittal to acquire its U.S. assets, including its Northwest Indiana steel mills, for $1.4 billion in stock and cash.

ArcelorMittal USA employs about 10,000 steelworkers in Northern Indiana.

The blockbuster deal includes several steel mills: ArcelorMittal Indiana Harbor in East Chicago; ArcelorMittal Burns Harbor in Porter County; ArcelorMittal Riverdale in Illinois; and the Gary Plate finishing facility located inside U.S. Steel’s Gary Works steel mill.

ArcelorMittal USA pulled in $10.4 billion in revenue over the past two years, including $700 million in earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, or EBITDA. Cleveland-Cliffs expects the merger will result in about $150 million in annual cost savings, which traditionally would be achieved at least partly through layoffs of redundant positions, though ArcelorMittal USA’s former steel mills also no longer would have to pay market prices for iron ore, the most basic ingredient of steel.

“We look forward to welcoming the ArcelorMittal USA team into our organization. We are creating an exceptional company, based on great people and supported by our existing strong relationship with the United Steelworkers, the United Auto Workers and the Machinists unions,” Goncalves said.

“The acquisition of ArcelorMittal USA amplifies our position in the discerning automotive steel marketplace, and further improves our position in important U.S. markets such as construction, appliances, infrastructure, machinery and equipment.”

“I would like to thank all employees of ArcelorMittal USA for their hard work in ensuring the business maintained its reputation as a trusted, quality supplier of steels for American manufacturing. I am confident you will have a bright future with Cleveland-Cliffs.”

The Complete Guide To Fire Alarm Systems

Over the years, fire alarm systems have become increasingly sophisticated, so we’ve put together a guide to help you understand all the components of a fire detection alarm system and get the most out of this essential technology.

Alarm systems have evolved considerably since Francis Robbins Upton, a Thomas Edison associate, patented the first automatic alarm system in 1890.

HVAC system shutdown: If they detect smoke in an air duct, many fire alarm systems will shut the air handling unit down, thus preventing smoke from spreading to other parts of the building.

Some fire alarm panels can also notify remote alarm monitoring stations, which can then contact emergency services.

Fire alarm panels continuously monitor and indicate the state of the fire alarm system.

Some fire alarm systems have internal or external dialers used to contact monitoring centers or alarm receiving stations.

You can learn about the requirements for inspecting, testing and maintaining fire alarm systems, including their notification appliances and initiating devices, in Chapter 14 of NFPA 72 ‘National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code’.

Fire Alarm Systems

Fire Lite and Silent Knight are both very popular brands of commercial grade fire alarm systems owned under the Honeywell umbrella of companies.

Although all of the general security alarm systems we offer such as the DSC and Honeywell Vista Series can do fire protection as well as burglary, they are not rated and approved for commercial, industrial or institutional use as a fire alarm system.

The Fire Lite and Silent Knight fire alarm systems found in these categories fill that void.

Fire Lite and Silent Knight systems are both dedicated fire alarm panels.

They are not designed or capable of doing anything but that and they do it well.

The installed fire system includes 10 fire panels, some 18,000 fire detectors throughout the terminal and luggage sorting hall, sprinklers, smoke removal systems, and audible and visual alarms, connected by 360 km of cables.

A Guide To Fire Alarm Basics

A fire alarm system is a crucial part of the fire and life safety of a building and its occupants.

There are many functions that are served by the fire alarm system and it all may be a bit confusing to someone new to fire alarms, so I decided to create a visual guide to fire alarm basics.

FACU – Fire Alarm Control Unit. The fire alarm control unit serves as the brain of the fire alarm system by monitoring all the inputs and controlling all the outputs.

Some may also refer to this as a fire alarm control panel or fire alarm panel.

The initiation of a fire alarm system includes all the devices and circuits that send a signal to a fire alarm to provide the status of a protected space or the existence of a fire.

Supervision can include but is not limited to valves on fire protection systems, other fire protection systems such as kitchen hood suppression systems, valve room or storage tank temperatures, and fire pump condition issues with these systems would provide a signal to the fire alarm control unit via an initiating device circuit for conventional systems, or a signaling line circuit for addressable systems and would create a supervisory condition at the fire alarm control unit.

I hope you found this guide to fire alarm basics informative, would you be interested in some more guides on other fire protection and life safety topics? If so, let me know in the comments below what systems or concepts you would be interested in.

What Is A Fire Alarm System?

Fire Alarm System is designed to alert us to an emergency so that we can take action to protect ourselves, staff and the general public.

Fire alarms are found in Offices, Factories, and public buildings, they are a part of our everyday routine but are often overlooked until there is an emergency at which point, they might just save our lives.

Whatever the method of detection is, if the alarm is triggered, sounders will operate to warn people in the building that there may be a fire and to evacuate.

The fire alarm system may also incorporate a remote signal system which could then alert the fire brigade via a central station.

So what is a fire alarm system, or fire detection system? In this article, we will have a look at the structure and types of the “Fire Alarm Systems”.

Such systems are typically designed and installed by qualified individuals as determined by the AHJ. The design, installation, and approval of a fire detection and alarm system may also require acceptance testing by regulatory agencies before new buildings are occupied or the system is placed in service.

The type of system required depends upon the type of occupancy of the building and is affected by the following factors: Level of life safety hazard Structural features of the building Hazard level presented by the contents of the building Availability of fire suppression resources, such as water supply, hydrants, and automatic sprinkler systems State and local code requirements Inspectors should be able to recognize each type of system and understand how each system operates.

614 Protected premises Supervising station alarm systems Public emergency alarm reporting system Emergency communications systems Both emergency communications systems and parallel telephone systems may be found in buildings with certain occupancies or building types.

Central Station System A central station system is a listed supervising station that monitors the status of protected premises alarm systems and provides inspection, testing, and maintenance through contracted services.

Remote Receiving System – System in which alarm signals from the protected premises are transmitted over a leased telephone line to a remote receiving station with a 24-hour staff; usually the municipal fire department’s alarm communications center sending an alarm signal to the FACU. Chapter 14 Fire Detection and Alarm Systems 619 Parallel Telephone and Multiplexing Systems A parallel telephone system consists of a dedicated circuit between each individual alarm box or protected property and the fire department telecommunications center.

Emergency Communications Systems An emergency communications system is a supplementary system that may be provided in facilities in conjunction with detection and alarm signaling systems.

Chapter 14 Fire Detection and Alarm Systems 643 also include voice evacuation systems, alarm printers, annunciators, textual displays, and graphic displays that are included as a part of the installed system.

4) Heat detectors must be mounted closer together than smoke detectors, so while the mounting bases are compatible for all types, care should be taken to ensure that the spacing between detectors is appropriate for the detector type fitted.

With analogue systems it is possible for the photo thermal detector to act as a thermally enhanced smoke detector during certain times and as a pure heat detector at other times.

Typical examples are bimetallic detectors, fusible alloy detectors, certain pneumatic rate-of-rise detectors, certain smoke detectors, and thermoelectric detectors.

All smoke detectors have similar spacing requirements; heat detectors also all have similar spacing requirements although these are different to smoke detectors.

Where detectors must be mounted onto a pitched ceiling, a detector should be mounted near to the apex but spacing can be increased by 1% for each 1 degree of slope up to 25%. ‘Near’ is defined as within 600 mm for smoke detectors and within 150 mm for heat detectors.

3) Air Sampling-type Detector – A sampling-type detector consists of piping or tubing distribution from the detector unit to the area(s) to be protected.

Typical examples are bimetallic detectors, fusible alloy detectors, certain pneumatic rate-of-rise detectors, most smoke detectors and thermoelectric detectors.

Gran Turismo

The appeal of the Gran Turismo series is due significantly to its graphics, a large number of licensed vehicles, attention to vehicle detail, accurate driving physics emulation, and the ability to tune performance, hence the subtitle “The Real Driving Simulator”, incorporated to the franchise’s iconography since Gran Turismo 4.

Gran Turismo 4 for the PS2 was actually the first online-enabled Gran Turismo game but the online aspect of the game did not make it past beta stage.

According to Yamauchi, the cars in the first two games were made from 300 polygons, while those in Gran Turismo 3 and 4 were made up of 4,000 polygons, and the “Premium cars” in Gran Turismo 5 were made up of 500,000.

In April 2008, while discussing plans for Gran Turismo 5, Kazunori Yamauchi was quoted as saying, “We’re hoping to make Gran Turismo for Boys a feature within GT5.” In a 2013 interview with GTPlanet, Kazunori Yamauchi said that the PSP video game Gran Turismo was a rendition of the Gran Turismo for Boys idea and there was no need for a separate game.

Gran Turismo 7 Review

If someone were to reel breathlessly into a game shop right now, and ask at the counter for that Japanese game everyone is talking about, you know, the really difficult one, by the eccentric guy, who stashes all the story stuff in item descriptions, and tells of a bleak and beautiful world by way of what it built and how it moved in its days of grace, they could end up with Elden Ring.

Slipped between its numbered entries are trysting titles such as Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.

No wonder, in Gran Turismo 6., we wound up on the moon, piloting a lunar rover across a silver prairie.

These games teemed with vehicles and customisation options, and yet, for a certain kind of player, they were frustrating.

You would catch sight of a copy of Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec., unaccompanied by its kind, next to the gloomy, neglected shard of a PS2. Long before the Nintendo Wii, Yamauchi was reaching people outside the fold with the simple promise of fun.

Character that defines Gran Turismo 7., if not that of its cars then of its creator.

Where else can you peruse a timeline exhibiting the fortunes of Aston Martin, and expect to see a parallel timeline below, pointing out that, at the same moment, Duke Ellington made history by recording the first long-playing vinyl? For Yamauchi, these games are about more than carburetors, brake pads, and all that jazz.

Gran Turismo 7: PS5 Vs PS4 Performance Review

Our Gran Turismo 7 review gave the game a 9, in no small part thanks to the stunning visuals on display.

Doubly nice, it’s not exclusive to the PlayStation 5 version, meaning PlayStation 4 and PS4 Pro players are not left wanting.

During gameplay itself, Ray Tracing is disabled, giving you performance one in the same with the second mode, Prioritize Frame Rate, which runs all sections – including replays – at 60 fps without Ray Tracing.

The PS4 and the PS4 Pro have a single mode, which runs gameplay at 60 fps and all replays at 30 fps.

The PS4 is similar, offering a pretty stable 60 fps performance metric in the majority of cases.

Gran Turismo 7 is a passionate, petrol fueled show for Polyphony Digital, delivering a nostalgic return to form of the Gran Turismo series.

The technical nips and tucks come in all in the right places to deliver an incredible-looking swan song for the PlayStation 4 generation, whilst improving and refining the new-gen experience thanks to Ray Tracing, near-instant load times, and other visual boosts that allow Gran Turismo 7 to shine as bright as the team would allow.

Gran Turismo Is Back For Real This Time

Rather than the release of the first Gran Turismo on December 23rd, 1997, Gran Turismo 7 would have you believe that its roots go much deeper than that, harkening back to the halcyon days of motor vehicle founders Carl Benz and Henry Ford as a primary touchstone for its inspiration and making the connection between the act of racing and a deeper love of cars an absolutely inextricable one.

Whether you’re a long-time Gran Turismo savant, a part-time wannabe racer or just a casual driver looking to hit the track as and when time and inclination allows, Gran Turismo 7 feels warmly welcoming.

For newer players Gran Turismo 7 a handy virtual guide not only provides a concise explanation of what everything in the hub does – from purchasing new cars to online multiplayer, but it also helpfully directs to newcomers to the GT Café; a great first stop destination for interning new players in all things Gran Turismo.

Speaking of gating, or more appropriately ‘grating’, the licence tests; a long-time fixture of the Gran Turismo franchise also return in Gran Turismo 7, but to be honest they’re as pointless now as they were back in 1997.

Once things get going in this regard, long time Gran Turismo players will soon recognise that familiar and hugely satisfying gameplay loop of gaining new cars, winning races and reinvesting that money back into tuning up cars to up their PP stat in order to make them more competitive in Gran Turismo 7’s most challenging races.

Though the Sport Mode and lobbies that were an integral part of Gran Turismo Sport’s online offering return, Gran Turismo 7 expands on that concept further with the idea of a Meeting Place where you can not only enjoy online track days and watch other players race, but you can also share custom car liveries with one another, as well as a veritable raft of in-car photography.

With ray tracing mode on, Gran Turismo 7 does a clever thing whereby it renders replays and other non-interactive scenes with ray-traced visuals at 30 FPS, but where the need for a high response time is required – in the actual racing itself – the ray tracing technique is pared back and the framerate goes back up to 60 frames per second, essentially giving players the best of both worlds.

Sony Has A Partner To Build Its PlayStation-Toting EVs, And The First Will Arrive In 2025

Honda has announced an alliance with Sony to design, build, and sell new EV models.

In the meantime, the Japanese automaker is partnering with Sony to develop electric cars under a separate brand.

Sony has long expressed interest in building an electric car, and has developed a couple of prototypes in recent years.

The Vision-S 02 came with an announcement from Sony that it planned to create a new mobility company this year.

Sony making an EV is a pretty wild development in itself, but what’s even more intriguing is the firm appears set to bring PlayStation gaming inside the cars.

On its Vision-S press site, Sony writes: “The center display and passenger display remotely connect to a game console at home or to a cloud network via 5G. You can play popular PlayStation games with high-quality visuals on the large screen, while waiting in the car when charging or parked.”

Interestingly, Sony’s current messaging around gaming in its two Vision-S concept EVs are focused around the PS4’s Dualshock 4 controller, rather than the DualSense controller which comes with the PS5. Sony unveiled its first EV concept – the Vision-S 01 – in January 2020, which was before the PS5 was announced later in the same year.

Sony Wants To Revolutionize Its E-Cars With Built-In Playstation Games

A Sony executive recently told Reuters that the company’s mobility division, launched about two years ago, aims to turn cars into “Entertainment spaces.” To achieve this goal, the PlayStation maker says it’s currently looking for more cooperation partners.

Sony unveiled its first four-wheeled car, which is a near-production prototype, at Consumer Electronics Show 2020 in Las Vegas.

The infotainment functions from Sony can be operated either via several touchscreens or via gesture or voice control.

At CES 2022, Sony made it clear that the group is serious about its car plans.

On the technical side Sony has brought even more partner companies on board for its project.

In the future, Sony may also collaborate with Chinese companies in the field.

Izumi Kawanishi, who will head the electronics company’s automotive division, told Reuters that Sony selects its potential partners based on their technological expertise rather than nationality.

This Is Sony’S PlayStation VR2 Headset

Sony has finally given us our first look at the PlayStation VR2 along with more detailed shots of the Sense 2 controllers.

The headset looks similar to the previous model but adds some noteworthy enhancements, including a lens adjustment dial and a new vent design.

Aesthetically, the PSVR2 matches the Sense controller with an “Orb” shape meant to represent the 360-degree view players get when they experience VR. PlayStation Senior Vice President Hideaki Nishino wrote in a blog post that the design is meant to match the PS5 and its accessories; the original headset already sported a black-and-white color scheme but this new one has smoother curves and goes all-white for the front cover.

“Our goal is to create a headset that will not only become an attractive part of your living room decor, but will also keep you immersed in your game world, to the point where you almost forget you are using a headset or controller,” Nishino wrote.

“That’s why we paid very close attention to the ergonomics of the headset and conducted extensive testing to ensure a comfortable feel for a variety of head sizes.”

The headset is also slimmer than the previous one and weighs slightly less, which should improve comfort.

There is also a new vent design meant to improve airflow and keep the headset cool when you’re gaming for hours on end.
