Berkshire Hathaway owns a 9.8% stake in Occidental Petroleum worth $5.1 billion after furious buying activity in shares of the big energy company this past week.

Berkshire Hathaway disclosed late Friday in a form 4 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission that it held 91.2 million shares of Occidental Petroleum, up from 29.8 million shares on Tuesday, which was disclosed in a separate 13-G SEC filing on Friday.

Berkshire bought 34 million shares of Occidental on Friday at prices ranging from $48 to $56 as volume spiked to 100 million shares, against more recent daily volume in the 15 to 20 million share range.

The purchases were probably made in large part by CEO Warren Buffett who oversees Berkshire’s $350 billion equity portfolio.

Berkshire already owns $10 billion of 8% preferred stock and about 84 million warrants to purchase Occidental stock at $59.62 a share.

Once Berkshire hit the 10% stake in Occidental on Tuesday, subsequent changes in its holdings had to be reported promptly.

Berkshire bought the Occidental preferred in 2019, when Occidental CEO Vicki Holub wanted to quickly arrange financing to win a bidding war for Anadarko Petroleum against the deeper-pocketed Chevron.

Berkshire already owns 100,000 preferred shares in Occidental, reflecting a $10 billion investment in the oil-and-gas company to help fund its takeover of Anadarko Petroleum in 2019.

If Occidental’s stock price rises above the exercise price, Berkshire can use its warrants to purchase shares at a discount, then sell them at the market price and make a profit.

If Berkshire hangs on to its newly purchased stock until it exercises its warrants, and doesn’t sell the resulting shares either, it would have 175 million common shares – worth over $10 billion at the exercise price.

Occidental shares have rallied to a two-year high as well.

Buffett and his team, who are looking to deploy around $80 billion of cash, clearly determined the stock was undervalued and poised to benefit from rising energy prices, and decided to buy some shares.

RA Capital bought 1,475,135 Cytek Biosciences shares from Feb. 14 through Feb. 28 at prices ranging from $12.97 to $14.99.

Carl Icahn’s Icahn Capital cut its interest in the oil-and-gas explorer by nearly a third, to 32,586,486 shares.

Icahn Capital sold 26,941,467 Occidental Petroleum shares from Feb. 28 through March 2 at prices ranging from $41.84 to $48.34.

Also on Feb. 28, Icahn Capital sold 476,719 Occidental Petroleum warrants, exercisable at $22, at a price of $22.10 apiece.

No reason was given for the divestments, which leave Icahn Capital with a 3.4% stake in Occidental.

Because Icahn Capital is no longer a 5% holder of the company, it isn’t required to report future sales that don’t make it reach that level.

Due to recent losses, the fund’s average annual return since inception in 2004 has fallen to 3.8%, versus 10% for the S&P. Icahn isn’t bothered though, preferring to focus on publicly-traded Icahn Enterprises instead of just his investment fund.

Still, Icahn isn’t planning on retiring anytime soon, despite his son and successor Brett Icahn returning to the firm as a portfolio manager and member of the board in October 2020.

The Airbus A320 Ram Air Turbine is used in the event of a dual engine failure or serious electrical problem to supply electrical power.

The Emergency Generator is a backup system that can use hydraulic power from the Ram Air Turbine to supply electrical power to the aircraft.

Backup power is supplied by the Ram Air Turbine which in turn supplies the Emergency Generator that supplies limited electrical power.

On the Boeing 777 the Ram Air Turbine is considereded because the turbine is connected to en electrical generator and a hydraulic pump.

NEW YORK – At a daylong conference earlier this month focused on the explosion of private equity interest and money in the logistics sector, attendees heard from a CEO behind one of the biggest deals of 2021: the merger that brought together 3PLs GlobalTranz and Worldwide Express.

Bob Farrell of GlobalTranz told a conference sponsored by the Benesch law firm that “Private equity is about turning intentions into reality.” And with the backing of CVC Capital Partners, that happened this year when truckload/LTL-focused GlobalTranz merged with Worldwide Express, creating a logistics giant that has significant parcel capabilities through Worldwide and the longer-haul business that GlobalTranz has long been known for.

Farrell said in 2017, GlobalTranz began an acquisition program that resulted in 13 purchases “That allowed us to scale the company dramatically.” “Some of it was transformational and brought new capabilities into the company,” Farrell explained.

In June of that year, GlobalTranz was sold to The Jordan Co. After that acquisition, Farrell said, “We kept driving the company forward.” Another acquisition was completed,, GlobalTranz and Jordan agreed on their “Next objectives,” and then an unusual thing happened: Jordan thought about selling.

The possibility of a tie-up between Worldwide and GlobalTranz had been a topic of discussion between Farrell and Worldwide management going back to 2017, Farrell said.

While the talks between Farrell and Worldwide executives may have been off and on for several years, Farrell said GlobalTranz got particularly interested when it learned in the spring of this year that Worldwide “Was running a process.”

While the merger between Worldwide Express and GlobalTranz was led by CVC Capital Partners, investors who owned the individual companies continue to have stakes in the new company.

Part of my product got lost between their ware house and the receiving international client.

GlobalTranz does not provide any information about the possible whereabouts of the products or any assistance trying to locate the goods accounting to over $13,000.

They have displayed a lack of interest trying to locate the lost merchandise, do not answer the phone calls and show no interest in providing an answer about the lost goods.
