A circuit breaker functions in the trading world the same way it does for electrical circuits in a home.
A Level 2 decline refers to a drop of 13%. Finally, a Level 3 decline refers to a drop of 20%. Level 1 or 2 circuit breakers halt trading on all exchanges for 15 minutes unless they are triggered at or after 3:25 PM. Level 3 circuit breakers halt trading for the remainder of the trading day.
Exchange-traded funds are treated as individual securities under the circuit breaker system, even though they represent portfolios of several securities.
Key Parameters of the Circuit Breaker System Acceptable up-or-down trading range Acceptable up-or-down trading range Security price, listing 5% 10% Tier 1 National Market System securities: S&P 500- and Russell 1000- listed stocks, some exchange-traded products; price greater than $3.00 10% 20% Tier 2 NMS securities: other stocks priced over $3.00 20% 40% Other stocks priced greater than or equal to $0.75 and less than $3.00 Lesser of 75% or $0.15 Lesser of 150% or $0.30 Other stocks priced less than $0.75 Regulators put the first circuit breakers into place following the market crash that occurred on Oct. 19, 1987.
Prices mostly recovered by the market close, but the failure of the post-1987 circuit breakers to halt the crash caused the regulators to update the circuit breaker system at that time.
It can be triggered at three circuit breaker thresholds relative to the prior day’s closing price of the S&P 500, The first is Level 1 at 7%, followed by Level 2 at 13%, and 20% at Level 3.
If a Level 1 or Level 2 circuit breaker is triggered, trading halts for a minimum of 15 minutes.
One end of the circuit, the hot wire, leads to the power plant.
Because the hot wire connects to a high energy source, and the neutral wire connects to an electrically neutral source, there is a voltage across the circuit – charge moves whenever the circuit is closed.
In building wiring, the hot wire and the neutral wire never touch directly.
Too much charge flowing through a circuit at a particular time would heat the appliance’s wires and the building’s wiring to unsafe levels, possibly causing a fire.
Something will connect the hot wire directly to the neutral wire or something else leading to ground.
A fan motor might overheat and melt, fusing the hot and neutral wires together.
The circuit breaker’s job is to cut off the circuit whenever the current jumps above a safe level.
A circuit breaker is a switching device that interrupts the abnormal or fault current.
The circuit breaker is mainly designed for closing or opening of an electrical circuit, thus protects the electrical system from damage.
Circuit breaker essentially consists of fixed and moving contacts.
During the normal operating condition, the arms of the circuit breaker can be opened or closed for a switching and maintenance of the system.
Circuit breakers are mainly classified on the basis of rated voltages.
Circuit breakers below rated voltage of 1000V are known as the low voltage circuit breakers and above 1000V are called the high voltage circuit breakers.
All high-voltage circuit breakers may be classified under two main categories i.e oil circuit breakers and oil-less circuit breaker.
The purpose of the Circuit Breaker pattern is different than the Retry pattern.
The retry logic should be sensitive to any exceptions returned by the circuit breaker and abandon retry attempts if the circuit breaker indicates that a fault is not transient.
If the circuit breaker raises an event each time it changes state, this information can be used to monitor the health of the part of the system protected by the circuit breaker, or to alert an administrator when a circuit breaker trips to the Open state.
An administrator could force a circuit breaker into the Open state if the operation protected by the circuit breaker is temporarily unavailable.
If the timeout is too long, a thread running a circuit breaker might be blocked for an extended period before the circuit breaker indicates that the operation has failed.
The Reset method closes the circuit breaker, and the HalfOpen method sets the circuit breaker to half open.
If the circuit breaker has only been open for a short time, less than the OpenToHalfOpenWaitTime value, the ExecuteAction method simply throws a CircuitBreakerOpenException exception and returns the error that caused the circuit breaker to transition to the open state.

In electrical engineering, low voltage is a relative term, the definition varying by context.
The International Electrotechnical Commission Standard IEC 61140:2016 defines Low voltage as 0 to 1000 V a.c. rms or 0 to 1500 V d.c. Other standards such as IEC 60038 defines supply system low voltage as voltage in the range 50 to 1000 V ac or 120 to 1500 V dc in IEC Standard Voltages which defines power distribution system voltages around the world.
In electrical power systems low voltage most commonly refers to the mains voltages as used by domestic and light industrial and commercial consumers.
The ripple-free direct current requirement only applies to 120 V dc, not to any dc voltage above that.
A direct current that is exceeding 1500 V dc during voltage fluctuations it is not categorized as low-voltage.
In electrical power distribution, the US National Electrical Code, NFPA 70, article 725, defines low distribution system voltage as 0 to 49 V. The NFPA standard 79 article 188.8.131.52.
Defines distribution protected extra-low voltage as nominal voltage of 30 Vrms or 60 V dc ripple-free for dry locations, and 6 Vrms or 15 V dc in all other cases.
Low voltage systems are comprised of electrical equipment that uses 50 volts of electricity or less.
Common low voltages include 48 V, 24 V, and 12 V. Residential examples of low voltage systems include doorbells, garage door openers, home security sensors, thermostats, and landscape lighting.
Commercial low voltage systems cover a wide array of categories, from fire protection to security systems to sound and communication.
State Systems is a proven leader in the analysis, design, installation, and service of a full range of low voltage electrical systems.
Access control systems: Decide which personnel are permitted to go where with a low voltage access control system.
All of the above low voltage systems require an efficient network to function correctly.
Contact State Systems online or call us at 901-531-6550 today to install one or more low voltage systems in your Mid-South building.
Low voltage refers to electrical power supplies that produce relatively low power levels.
Main power distribution lines are considered high voltage, while low voltage systems include things like lighting or doorbell chimes.
The United States does not have a specific standard for voltage being low, but defines high voltage as any power source greater than 600 volts.
Low voltage systems pose some risk of shock, but little to no risk of electric arcing.
The primary advantage associated with low voltage wiring is that it is much safer than traditional wiring techniques.
Running low voltage landscaping lights in the back yard poses much less risk of injury or death than running standard power lines in the walls of a house.
Low voltage must be used with small electrical systems only, and may not be appropriate for commercial or large-scale electrical projects.
Voltages Divided into Classifications High, medium, and low voltage are the terms we hear the most when talking about voltage classifications.
High, Extra-High and Ultra-High Voltages High and extra-high voltages are associated with supply transmission from the power plant.
High voltages range from 115,000 to 230,000 VAC and Extra-High voltages range from 345,000 to 765,000 VAC. The United States transmits up to 500,000 volts on the high voltage grid.
High voltages require specialized switching and distribution panels.
Ultra-High voltages are voltages that are over 765,000 to 1,100,000 VAC. China is using the highest voltage transmission at 800,000 VAC. They are developing a 1,100,000 VAC system using cables rated at 1,200,000 VAC today.
Medium Voltages and Industry Large industrial complexes and factories that require a substantial amount of power often utilize medium supply voltages.
Not all factories require high or medium voltages.

Maintenance shop technology vendor Mitchell 1 has introduced interactive wiring diagrams and new time-management tools designed to help technicians more efficiently repair modern trucks.
Mitchell 1’s new suite of time-management tools, available in its Manager SE Truck Series software, automatically generates productivity statistics as technicians perform daily tasks.
That information can help shop managers better measure how their technicians are performing and indicate where additional training might be needed, said Ben Johnson, director of product management for Mitchell 1.
“One of the things wrestle with is understanding the amount of time that technicians are in the shop and how productive they actually are,” he said.
With its latest release of Truck Series repair information, Mitchell 1 has added enhanced diagram navigation to make connectors, grounds and splices both searchable and interactive.
Johnson emphasized Mitchell 1’s focus on preparing technicians to service commercial vehicles equipped with increasingly advanced technologies, such as advanced driver assistance systems and battery-electric powertrains.
As emerging technologies take hold in the truck market and make their way into maintenance shops, technicians will frequently see new maintenance issues and symptoms for the first time.
Mitchell 1 showcased next-generation electrical diagnostics software and time management tools for truck service operations.
With the latest release of TruckSeries repair information, Mitchell 1 has added exclusive features to its wiring diagrams that help save even more time when working on complex electrical issues, the company noted.
“At Mitchell 1 we believe the wiring diagram can and should be, the hub of electrical diagnosis with additional information supporting the diagram,” Johnson noted.
The new enhancements to the Truck-Series Advanced Interactive Wiring Diagrams streamline navigation within a diagram set-or from one diagram set to a completely different diagram set, the company noted.
Exclusive to Mitchell 1, Advanced Interactive Wiring Diagrams let users navigate via the diagram directly to repair information for components.
Truck-Series not only takes the user to the specific diagram but when the diagram is opened the component, connector, ground, or splice will be in focus with all the traces already highlighted.
“What we see in EVs is that there are traditional 12- or 24-volt circuits that run AC blowers and other things, then there’s the high voltage system that runs the propulsion system. The diagram themselves will look similar, but we’re watching what the OEMs are doing to diagram this. We’ve seen a mishmash of some OEMs detailing what the high voltage systems are and some that aren’t as clear. So the wiring diagrams you saw here will translate to electric trucks.”
Mitchell 1, at the Technology and Maintenance Council’s 2022 Annual Meeting & Transportation Technology Exhibition in Orlando Sunday, announced its next-generation electrical diagnostics software and time management tool.
“We’re also seeing a continued emphasis on the environment with cleaner diesel technology, along with an increasing focus on electric drivetrains – whether they are powered by huge banks of batteries or by hydrogen and fuel cells,” Johnson said, adding some new features will help technicians service advanced electronics vehicles, including added components, wiring, and circuits that they’ve possibly never seen before.
“With these new technologies, maintenance technicians will experience a lot of ‘first time’ events in the repair shop with no experience to draw upon. What this means is that techs on the front lines will need to adopt a proven electronic diagnostics strategy to succeed in repairing and maintaining fleets with these advanced technologies.”
Johnson said with the latest release of TruckSeries repair information, Mitchell 1 has added exclusive features to its wiring diagrams that help save even more time when working on complex electrical issues, enhancing diagram navigation and making connectors, grounds and splices not only searchable but also interactive.
Johnson also introduced Mitchell 1’s new suite of time management features for shops that service commercial trucks.
Available in Mitchell 1’s Manager SE Truck Series, the software automatically generates productivity statistics as technicians clock in-and out of labor operations, and also enables users to track and report employee shift hours in real time on mobile devices.
The new time management features, coupled with new diagnostic tools, are designed to assist shops with challenges they encounter with increasing electrification of commercial trucks.
The latest release of Mitchell 1’s Manager SE Truck Edition truck shop management software includes new technician productivity tracking features.
Repair facilities using Manager SE Truck Edition can now capture productivity data as their technicians clock in and out of labor operations.
The new Technician Time Manager in Manager SE Truck Edition tracks a technician’s actual time spent on assigned jobs.
The labor time manager provides an overview of hours and efficiency for each technician.
When actual clocked time exceeds pay hours, it is displayed in red, alerting the technicians and shop managers to review the discrepancy.
These new features help shops keep track of their labor margin, along with employee hours, Mitchell 1 officials said in a press release.
Additional features of the latest software release include an employee shift clock and a current activity screen to verify current workloads.

While many equipment manufacturers have made electric-concept machines as one-off efforts, Bobcat sees electrification as a broader shift for the industry.
Developed in cooperation with electric vehicle-maker Moog Construction, the T7X is designed to leapfrog some electrification efforts underway in the construction equipment sector, according to Joel Honeyman, Bobcat vice president of global innovation.
Replacing the compact track loader’s traditional hydraulics with electric actuator motors offers a different power curve than on an ordinary machine, but Honeyman says it’s the result of a long journey.
Bobcat North America had developed a prototype electric compact track loader in 2019 but kept refining it to get where it is today.
The T7X is built to roughly the same form factor as Bobcat’s T76 conventional compact track loader, although the electric model is about 1,000 lb heavier.
Bobcat will make the initial group of T7X electric compact track loaders available through Sunbelt Rentals later this year.
These initial machines run at a cost nearly three times that of a traditional model-at more than $200,000 each-but Honeyman says the price is likely to drop as Bobcat expands production of electric machines.

The reason why some may find the prospect of finding out their taxpayer identification number daunting could be because there are three main types of abbreviations which refer to the taxpayer identification number, and you may not know which one you need.
These three abbreviations are: TIN, ITIN, and EIN. The TIN stands for taxpayer identification number which is an umbrella term for what we are talking about.
What is your SSN? You can request a replacement SSN card at the SSA’s website to find out your social security number.
You’ll need to file for an Employer Identification Number or EIN. This number is issued to individuals and legal entities, depending on a business’ legal structure.
So far we have seen that your TIN information may just be the same as your SSN, or it may be your SSN and an EIN. However, it may be that you are not eligible for an SSN. What to do then? What is your taxpayer identification number if you do not have a social security number? In this case, you will have to request an ITIN, which stands for Individual Taxpayer Identification Number.
As an entity: Your TIN is most likely the business entity’s Employer Identification Number.
As an individual without a SSN: Your TIN is issued as an ITIN, a 9 digit number you receive from the IRS..
Here’s what a tax ID number is and how to apply for one.
A tax identification number, or TIN, is a unique nine-digit number that identifies you to the IRS. It’s required on your tax return and requested in other IRS interactions.
Social Security numbers are the most popular tax ID numbers, but four other kinds are popular too: the ITIN, EIN, ATIN and PTIN. Individual Taxpayer Identification Number.
What it is: An Individual Taxpayer Identification Number, or ITIN, is a nine-digit tax ID number for nonresident and resident aliens, their spouses and their dependents who cannot get a Social Security number.
ITINs always begin with the number 9.Expirations: Any individual tax ID number not used on a tax return in the past three years as well as individual tax ID numbers with middle digits 88 expired at the end of 2020.
What it is: An Adoption Taxpayer Identification Number, or ATIN, is a temporary, nine-digit tax ID number the IRS gives to people who are in the process of adopting a child.
The IRS provides the number if the adopting parents cannot get a Social Security number for the child in time to file their tax return.
A Taxpayer Identification Number is a 9-digit number that is used by the Internal Revenue Service for tax purposes.
This number may be an individual’s Social Security Number assigned by the Social Security Administration, or another identification number assigned by the IRS, such as an Employer Identification Number.
For most individuals, their social security number will act as their taxpayer identification number.
Employer Identification Number – EIN. Also known as a federal tax identification number, the Employer Identification Number is assigned to businesses by the IRS for tax reporting purposes.
Individual Taxpayer Identification Number – ITIN. Certain nonresident and resident aliens, their spouses, and dependents who cannot get a Social Security Number can apply for an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number.
Adoption Taxpayer Identification Number – ATIN. An Adoption Taxpayer Identification Number is a nine-digit number issued by the IRS for adoption tax purposes.
Preparer Tax Identification Number – PTIN. The Preparer Tax Identification Number is issued to paid tax preparers who are preparing and submitting tax returns on behalf of clients.
A Tax Identification Number is a nine-digit number used as a tracking number by the Internal Revenue Service.
It is required information on all tax returns filed with the IRS. All U.S. tax identification numbers or tax I.D. numbers are issued directly by the IRS except Social Security numbers, which are issued by the Social Security Administration.
Social Security Number The social security number is the most common tax identification number.
Individual Taxpayer Identification Number The IRS issues the Individual Taxpayer Identification Number to certain nonresident and resident aliens, their spouses, and their dependents when ineligible for SSNs. Arranged in the same format as an SSN, the ITIN begins with a 9.
Certain agencies-including colleges, banks, and accounting firms-often help applicants obtain their ITIN. Employer Identification Number The IRS uses the Employee Identification Number to identify corporations, trusts, and estates that must pay taxes.
Adoption Tax Identification Number The ATIN only applies to domestic adoptions when the adoptive parents cannot obtain the child’s SSN to complete their tax returns promptly.
Is a TIN the same as a tax I.D.? A TIN is the same as a tax I.D. as it stands for tax identification number or taxpayer-identification number.
Identifier for a taxpaying entity in the U.S. A Taxpayer Identification Number is an identifying number used for tax purposes in the United States and in other countries under the Common Reporting Standard.
In the United States it is also known as a Tax Identification Number or Federal Taxpayer Identification Number.
Any government-provided number that can be used in the US as a unique identifier when interacting with the IRS is a TIN, though none of them are referred to exclusively as a Taxpayer Identification Number.
SSNs are used by people who have or had the right to work in the United States.
ITINs are used by aliens who may or may not have the right to work in the US, such as aliens on temporary visas and non-resident aliens with US income.
Section 6109(a) of the Internal Revenue Code provides that “When required by regulations prescribed by the Secretary Any person required under the authority of this title to make a return, statement, or other document shall include in such return, statement or other document such identifying number as may be prescribed for securing proper identification of such person.”
Internal Revenue Code section 6109(d) provides: “The social security account number issued to an individual for purposes of section 205(c)(2)(A) of the Social Security Act shall, except as shall otherwise be specified under regulations of the Secretary , be used as the identifying number for such individual for purposes of this title.”
To run your business, you need a taxpayer identification number.
TINs are either issued by the Social Security Administration or the IRS. Social Security numbers are the most common type of taxpayer identification number.
You must include your taxpayer identification number on all your small business tax returns, statements, and other tax-related documents.
Taxpayer identification numbers are nine-digit numbers that help the IRS or SSA identify your business.
An Employer Identification Number, or Federal Employer Identification Number, is a set of numbers issued by the IRS to identify your business.
It is a nine-digit number formatted like an SSN. Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers do not authorize individuals to work in the United States.
You can apply for an ITIN by filing Form W-7, Application for IRS Individual Taxpayer Identification Number.

Zinc-air batteries have some properties of fuel cells as well as batteries: the zinc is the fuel, the reaction rate can be controlled by varying the air flow, and oxidized zinc/electrolyte paste can be replaced with fresh paste.
Zinc-air batteries have higher energy density than many other types of battery because atmospheric air is one of the battery reactants, in contrast to battery types that require a material such as manganese dioxide in combination with zinc.
Stacking prismatic cells requires air channels in the battery and may require a fan to force air through the stack.
AZA Battery has announced development of pilot production of prismatic zinc air cells with characteristics suitable for both stationary storage and mobility applications.
Some approaches use a large zinc-air battery to maintain charge on a high discharge-rate battery used for peak loads during acceleration.
The term zinc-air fuel cell usually refers to a zinc-air battery in which zinc metal is added and zinc oxide is removed continuously.
One advantage of utilizing zinc-air batteries for vehicle propulsion is that earth’s supply of zinc metal is 100 times greater than that of lithium, per unit of battery energy.
If you use hearing aids, you might know the zinc air battery.
What makes the zinc air battery such a special battery?
The way the zinc air battery works is very different from other standard batteries.
The zinc air battery is completely filled with zinc, which reacts with oxygen from the air when the seal is removed.
By respecting this ‘breathing time’, you will extend the lifetime of your zinc air battery up to between 30 and 80%. If you remove the tab and immediately put the battery in your hearing aid, this will have a negative effect on the lifespan of your battery.
In the zinc air battery, zinc and oxygen from the air work together to generate a steady level of power, which makes it the ideal battery for new generation digital hearing aids.
Always keep the tips and tricks above in mind when using this type of battery and you won’t be deceived by the capabilities of this battery!
We all know about batteries, they power our daily lives, whether it be your new electric Tesla, your TV remote, or your smartphone.
There’s many different types of batteries, like alkaline batteries you’d find in your home or lithium-ion batteries found in cars, but you might not have heard of a zinc-air battery.
The problem with batteries, and this has always been the problem, is size, capacity, and most importantly, cost.
While there is a market in the auto industry for lithium-ion batteries, and it is a fair sized market, the real big player is in the electrical grid.
Lithium-ion batteries increase in cost as you require more storage because you’re essentially stacking the batteries together.
Zinc-air batteries can hold energy much longer than lithium-ions, and to increase the storage capacity, all that is needed is an increase in the storage container that holds the Zinc.
So who’s leading the zinc-air battery movement?
Battery Technology Includes:Battery technology overview Battery definitions & terms Battery capacity & life Batteries / cells in series & parallel Zinc carbon Alkaline cells Zinc air cells NiCad NiMH Li-ion Lead acid.
The first effects of air on batteries and cells was noted soon after the original wet Lechalnche cells were used.
The primary or non-rechargeable zinc air cells and batteries are the most widely used form of the zinc air technology at the moment.
It is found that zinc air cells have many of the properties of fuel cells, and are a half way house between batteries and fuel cells.
Although not all zinc air cells and batteries are the same, there are some general hints and tips that can be applied to most, and certainly to the types that are widely available today that are used for hearing aids and other electronic circuits where small but effective batteries are needed.
Let batteries breathe: When in use, the cells and batteries must have access to air as their operation is dependent upon air as it is one of the primary constituents for the process.
Use oldest batteries first: Zinc air cells have a long shelf life when the tab sealing the air holes is covered, they still lose some of their capacity over time.
They’re lightweight, compact and made of more sustainable, less flammable materials than other batteries.
Zinc-air batteries are one of many potential next-generation batteries that could hold more energy while being cheaper and safer than existing devices.
Every zinc-air battery cell contains two electrodes – a zinc anode and a porous cathode – separated by a liquid called an electrolyte.
The caustic electrolyte in conventional zinc-air batteries can also degrade the cathode and anode.
As a result, zinc ions from the anode can travel to the cathode and react directly with oxygen from the air.
What’s more, the new electrolyte doesn’t degrade the battery’s electrodes, which helps the battery last longer.
In lab experiments, Sun and colleagues were able to drain and recharge a new zinc-air battery cell 320 times over 160 hours.
You probably know this: the Canonet only needs the battery to run the light meter.
The meter is active only when you turn the aperture ring to “A”, so to do metered manual you have to turn the ring to A and then back to a numbered aperture.
There is a PX625A alkaline battery that is the same shape, but a slightly higher voltage.
This won’t hurt anything, but it will offset your meter readings by maybe 0.5-1 stop.
Some of them just adapt an LR44/SR44 or maybe a 386 battery without changing the voltage.
Any Canonet is 40+ years old by now and the meter sensitivity may be off.
Whatever battery solution you pick, you should test the meter against some other trustworthy source in bright and dim situations to see if your meter is reliable in both.

Montem is working on amending environmental permits and obtaining mine operating licences for Tent Mountain.
Montem has developed an operating plan for the re-start of the Tent Mountain Mine, and is actively working with regulators, Indigenous Peoples and the local community to bring the mine back into production.
Once approved, the next stage will be to construct new infrastructure, including haul roads, bring power 8km to site, and construct a rail loadout adjacent to the mine.
Operations of the Tent Mountain Mine will not be visible from Coleman, reducing the likelihood for any visual impact.
Where possible, infrastructure and operations will be shielded and away from the community.
The Tent Mountain Mine re-start will bring economic stimulus to local communities by providing opportunities for local businesses to be involved.
Approximately 200 temporary jobs will be created during the construction phase, with an additional approximately 190 full-time jobs created, across a range of skill sets, during mining operations, over an expected mine life of 14 years.
The Tent Mountain Mine is a proposed mine, located on the Front Ranges of the Canadian Rocky Mountains in south western Alberta and straddles the Alberta-British Columbia border about 16 km west of the town of Coleman.
The satellite photo below shows the approximate proposed mine site near the town of Coleman, straddling the British Columbia- Alberta border in Canada.
In 1948 the first open-cut mine was opened at Tent Mountain, and various phases of open-cut mining occurred until 1983 when operations of the Coleman Collieries were suspended.
In its current state the Environmental protection and Enhancement Act does not allow mining and requires amendment to allow mining activities to re-start at Tent Mountain.
Montem is in the process of applying for an amendment to the EPEA, along with several other licences which are required to undertake mining.
Montem intends to complete a feasibility study for the Tent Mountain mine which will aim to show a fast re-start of operations is feasible, at relatively low start-up capital.
All mining is currently planned to occur in Alberta because of the high quality of the coal, the large quantity resources, the proximity to infrastructure and the favorable seam geometries.
Effects of the Environment on the Project Potential effects to the Project, including damage to and failure of Project infrastructure, due to floods and wildfires, and associated effects to the environment, including accidental releases of contaminants.
Potential effects of the Project and cumulative effects to the ability of Indigenous peoples to access country foods and traditional resources, including through effects to wildlife habitat, terrestrial resources, and wildlife movement patterns.
Indigenous Peoples’ Rights Potential impacts on the traditional territories of potentially affected Indigenous groups and to the ability of Indigenous peoples to practice their Aboriginal or Treaty rights due to potential Project effects on sites of importance and the quantity and quality of resources of importance for the practice of these activities, such as fish, wildlife, plants, and water; effects on the ability of Indigenous peoples to transmit their language, culture, and knowledge to future generations; and effects to spiritual sites and landscapes.
Potential effects to migratory birds, including from habitat alteration or fragmentation; habitat avoidance due to Project-related noise, vibrations, and light; loss of access to nesting sites due to vegetation clearing; increased mortality rates; effects to health through exposure to deleterious substances; sensory disturbance; loss of food resources; effects on breeding and hibernation cycles; changes in predator/prey relationships; and obstructions to movement.
Transboundary Effects Potential effects of the Project and cumulative effects to water quality and quantity in waterbodies and watercourses located outside of Canada and Alberta, including Lake Koocanusa, the Kootenai River, and waterbodies and watercourses shared between the United States of America, British Columbia, and Alberta, as a result of Project activities, and effects to fish and fish habitat in those waterbodies and watercourses.
December 2021 – Tent Mountain Mine Redevelopment Project – Summary of Issues – PAGE 8 of 9 Clarity on potential mechanisms for selenium to enter surface water and groundwater resources and associated effects to the environment, including effects outside of Canada and the province of Alberta, and cumulative effects on the terrestrial environment, neutral drainage, surface water and groundwater quality, wildlife, fish, migratory birds, and plants.
Potential effects to surface water-groundwater interactions, including effects to baseflows and temperature in nearby watercourses, and associated effects to fish and fish habitat, including effects to critical habitat for aquatic species at risk in the Crowsnest River watershed and the Castle River watershed.
Environmental groups and First Nations say they are pleased the federal government is adding another proposed coal mine in Alberta’s Rocky Mountains to the list of projects it will review.
On Monday, federal Environment Minister Jonathan Wilkinson said Montem Resources’ proposed Tent Mountain project should be reviewed by the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada because it could release the contaminant selenium, an element commonly found in coal-bearing rock that is toxic to fish at high levels.
“Kainai has requested federal intervention in this issue on multiple occasions,” says a letter from the band to Wilkinson, posted by the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada.
The Kainai wanted the minister to go further and order a regional assessment, which would consider the cumulative impacts of all Alberta’s proposed coal mines instead of a project-by-project assessment.
Bobbi Lambright of the Livingstone Landowners Group wrote that a federal review will do a better job examining a mine’s potential impact on the headwaters of rivers that local people depend on.
“We are encouraged that Minister Wilkinson has recognized it requires a thorough, transparent and public federal assessment to examine its potential effects on water quality.”
Two weeks ago, Wilkinson promised any coal mine that had the potential to release selenium into the environment would face a federal review.
Montem Resources Ltd’S Tent Mountain Mine Designated As An Advanced Coal Project, Unaffected By Policy Update
“We have reviewed the Coal Committee reports and recommendations, and the accompanying Ministerial Order. The Tent Mountain Mine remains unaffected by the policy update and has been recognised as an advanced project,” Montem MD and CEO Peter Doyle said.
Montem Resources Ltd’s Tent Mountain Mine in Alberta, Canada, has been designated as an advanced coal project by the Government of Alberta’s Coal Policy Committee.
As advanced coal projects are unaffected by the Ministerial Order resulting from the Coal Policy Committee’s recommendations, Montem’s project remains unaffected.
“We have reviewed the Coal Committee reports and recommendations, and the accompanying Ministerial Order. The Tent Mountain Mine remains unaffected by the policy update and has been recognised as an advanced project.”
The pricing basis of the 2020 Tent Mountain Mine Feasibility Study was long-term forecast premium hard coking coal price of US$150/tonne, and discounted 13% for the Tier 2 HCC product to be produced at Tent Mountain.
Taking a more moderate look at future hard coking coal prices, and assuming a long-term reference price for premium hard coking coal at US$200/tonne, with the assessed 13% discount for the Tent Mountain product, the mine restart project would return an IRR of 45.5% and a NPV8 of C$493 million.
Alberta has tremendous potential to be a safe, environmentally responsible producer of steelmaking coal for the world and Montem’s Tent Mountain Mine represents an important source of new, responsibly mined and ethically sourced steelmaking coal.
Is now available to help the public and Indigenous groups participate in the impact assessment process for the proposed Tent Mountain Mine Redevelopment Project, located west of Coleman, Alberta.
During the current comment period, which ends December 16, 2021., the public and Indigenous groups are invited to review the summary of the initial project description and provide comments.
As a next step, the Agency will determine whether a federal impact assessment is required for the project.
If one is required, eligible applicants will receive additional funding to participate in a second comment period during which the public and Indigenous groups will be invited to provide feedback on the draft Tailored Impact Statement Guidelines and the draft Public Participation Plan.
The Proposed ProjectMontem Resources Alberta Operations Ltd. is proposing to restart and expand mining operations at the Tent Mountain Mine, an open-pit coal mine located 16 kilometres west of Coleman, Alberta.
As proposed, the Tent Mountain Mine Redevelopment Project would expand the original mine pits to allow for the production of 4925 tonnes per day of raw coal used for steelmaking, over a 14-year mine life.
The project would also include a coal handling and processing plant near the mining area and a rail loading facility located next to Provincial Highway #3. More information on this project is available on the Canadian Impact Assessment Registry website, reference number 81436.
Initial $7,000,000 reclamation bond payable to the Alberta Government before re-starting the mine.
The cash bond increases as the mine footprint expands, always covering 100% of the reclamation costs.
