Post Idea #2: Electronic design automation

Electronic Design Automation

Electronic design automation, also referred to as electronic computer-aided design, is a category of software tools for designing electronic systems such as integrated circuits and printed circuit boards.

The tools work together in a design flow that chip designers use to design and analyze entire semiconductor chips.

The immediate result was a considerable increase in the complexity of the chips that could be designed, with improved access to design verification tools that used logic simulation.

Although the languages and tools have evolved, this general approach of specifying the desired behavior in a textual programming language and letting the tools derive the detailed physical design remains the basis of digital IC design today.

The first trade show for EDA was held at the Design Automation Conference in 1984 and in 1986, Verilog, another popular high-level design language, was first introduced as a hardware description language by Gateway Design Automation.

EDA tools are also used for programming design functionality into FPGAs or field-programmable gate arrays, customisable integrated circuit designs.

Most of the market leaders are amalgamations of many smaller companies and this trend is helped by the tendency of software companies to design tools as accessories that fit naturally into a larger vendor’s suite of programs on digital circuitry; many new tools incorporate analog design and mixed systems.

What Is Electronic Design Automation?

The birth of commercial EDA tools essentially happened in three phases.

The first phase began in the 1960s and saw commercial availability of computer-assisted interactive graphics design systems.

With the emergence of the ASIC industry, the custom chips that were previously reserved for the very large system OEMs were now within reach of many more design teams.

During this phase, the primary focus was on software and some special-purpose hardware to capture the description of a design and simulate it.

The three primary companies leading this phase were Daisy Systems, Mentor Graphics, and Valid Logic.

The three primary companies leading this phase were Synopsys, Cadence, and Mentor.

With the dramatic expansion of semiconductor technology, there is a movement toward a need for a larger platform of tools and technologies which may signal the next phase of the industry’s development.

Electronic Design Automation

Given an electronic system modeled at the electronic system level, EDA automates the design and test processes of verifying the correctness of the ESL design against the specifications of the electronic system, taking the ESL design through various synthesis and verification steps, and finally testing the manufactured electronic system to ensure that it meets the specifications and quality requirements of the electronic system.

On one hand, EDA comprises a set of hardware and software co-design, synthesis, verification, and test tools that check the ESL design, translate the corrected ESL design to a register-transfer level, and then takes the RTL design through the synthesis and verification stages at the gate level and switch level to eventually produce a physical design described in graphics data system II format that is ready to signoff for fabrication and manufacturing test.

On the other hand, EDA can be viewed as a collection of design automation and test automation tools that automate the design and test tasks, respectively.

The design automation tools deal with the correctness aspects of the electronic system across all levels, be it ESL, RTL, gate level, switch level, or physical level.

Post Idea #4: Target date fund

Target-Date Fund Definition

Target date funds use a traditional portfolio management methodology to target asset allocation over the term of the fund to meet the investment return objective.

The fund managers also use the target date to determine the degree of risk the fund is willing to undertake.

A target-date fund’s portfolio mix of assets and degree of risk become more conservative as it approaches its objective target date.

Known as will also manage funds to a specified asset allocation past the target date.

Known as “Through” funds, will also manage funds to a specified asset allocation past the target date.

They are technically a fund of funds-a fund that invests in other mutual funds or exchange-traded funds-which means you have to pay the expense ratios of those underlying assets, as well as the fees of the target-date fund.

Below we compare the characteristics of the Vanguard 2065 fund to the characteristics of the Vanguard 2025 fund.

2022’S Best Target Date Funds For Retirement – Forbes Advisor

We considered several factors to identify the best target date funds, including fees, performance, asset allocation and glide path.

There are target date funds that cost more than 100 basis points.

While target date funds have been around since the 1990s, performance data is limited.

The asset allocation of a target date retirement fund changes over time.

While some target date funds maintain a 50% equity allocation at retirement, they all fall significantly below this level as the retiree ages.

In all target date funds we examined, the equity allocations fall far below the 50% mark.

Those using target date funds should carefully consider whether these funds best meet their needs in retirement.

Target Date Funds

These funds of funds offer exposure to all of the main building blocks of a fully diversified portfolio.

The managers automatically shift the fund’s allocation gradually over time to become gradually less risky as retirement approaches.

A retirement-savings option that can be smart at the outset of your career probably needs to be reexamined down the road. Target-date funds, as they’re called, offer a way to put your savings on autopilot: Holdings gradually shift away from riskier assets like stocks and toward more conservative investments as you approach retirement.

Say you reach a point where your target date fund is 70% in stocks and 30% in bonds.

Generally, these funds reach their target year with money still invested in stocks and continue doing so, although some may reduce their equity holdings.

The average 2020 target date fund now has about 46% in bonds, 42% in stocks and the remainder in cash and other investments, according to Morningstar Direct.

The average stock-bond mix for 2025 target date funds is 47%-39%. While some advisors say there’s nothing wrong with continuing to rely on target date funds in retirement, others say there are reasons to reconsider.

“If you’re taking distributions from a target date fund, you’re taking from both bonds and stocks indiscriminately,” Mellone said.

The bottom line is to be sure to reevaluate whether your target date fund still makes sense as your financial life grows more complex or you’re nearing retirement.

4 Best Target Date Retirement Funds In 2022

Target date retirement funds make investing in a 401(k) or IRA easy.

In this article we’ll look at several of the best target date retirement funds available today.

I’ve researched dozens of funds to identify the best options, as well as an example of a target date fund you should avoid.

If target-date retirement funds are starting to seem like attractive options, it might be worth considering holding a target date fund in a 401k if one is available to you.

Target date retirement funds feature a date in their name.

Target date retirement fund offerings are typically spaced out in 5-year increments, meaning there are 2045 and 2055 versions of the funds we’ve explored.

Investing in a single mutual fund seems counter to that idea, but not in the case of target date retirement funds.

Target Date Mutual Funds

Designed for investors who anticipate retiring in or within a few years of the fund’s target retirement year at or around age 65.

Investing in a combination of Fidelity domestic equity funds, international equity funds, bond funds, and short-term funds, each of which seeks to provide investment results that correspond to the total return of a specific index.

Allocating assets among underlying Fidelity funds according to a “Neutral” asset allocation strategy that adjusts over time until it reaches an allocation similar to that of the Freedom Index Income Fund approximately 10 to 19 years after the target year.

The Adviser may use an active asset allocation strategy to increase or decrease neutral asset class exposures reflected above by up to 10 percentage points for Equity Funds, Bond Funds and Short-Term Funds to reflect the Adviser’s market outlook, which is primarily focused on the intermediate term.

The funds are subject to the volatility of the financial markets, including that of equity and fixed income investments in the U.S. and abroad, and may be subject to risks associated with investing in high-yield, small-cap, commodity-linked and foreign securities.

No target date fund is considered a complete retirement program and there is no guarantee any single fund will provide sufficient retirement income at or through retirement.

Principal invested is not guaranteed at any time, including at or after the funds’ target dates.

Target Date Fund

A target date fund – also known as a lifecycle, dynamic-risk or age-based fund – is a collective investment scheme, often a mutual fund or a collective trust fund, designed to provide a simple investment solution through a portfolio whose asset allocation mix becomes more conservative as the target date approaches.

The speed with which a target date fund de-risks its asset allocation is known in the industry as the “Glide-path”, using the analogy of an airplane coming in for a landing.

Target Date Funds are commonly used as default funds as they make it easier for savers to select a savings strategy.

In the US, the use of Target Date Funds accelerated from 2006 onwards with the introduction of automatic-enrollment pensions legislation, where the convenience of a single ‘fund for life’ made them the most popular type of default strategy.

Northern Trust, for example, uses Collective Trust Funds, which typically do not figure in Morningstar or Bloomberg estimates of AUM. In the UK, the use of Target Date Funds is gaining traction, with the first launch in 2003, and current AUM estimated to be approximately £4.0bn. This is expected to increase with the advent of automatic enrolment pensions legislation.

Multi-employer pensions schemes are amongst the early adopters of Target Date Funds in the UK market.

In response to this, the SEC and DoL hosted a joint hearing on Examining Target Date Funds in June 2009, which found that while target-date funds were generally a welcome innovation, disclosure had to be improved to ensure investors were fully aware of a target-date fund glidepath, which may differ from manager to manager.

What Is The Petroleum Industry?

The petroleum industry is a collective term used to identify many different companies that engage in activities directly related to the production of petroleum products.

The various companies and functions involved in the petroleum industry are normally classed in one of three different categories, with acknowledgments that some companies engage in a series of activities that cross over these class boundaries.

Midstream functions often focus on the processes used to transport petroleum and petroleum-based products to manufacturers who use the products in the creation of different goods or services.

Essentially, any company involved in the transport of petroleum in any form would be considered a midstream company.

Downstream functions within the petroleum industry typically focus on the actual delivery of products to end-users.

The petroleum industry impacts just about every facet of modern life.

From this perspective, the petroleum industry affects the lives of consumers, even if they do not actively purchase gasoline or oil for use in private vehicles.

History Of The Petroleum Industry

While the local use of oil goes back many centuries, the petroleum industry is of recent origin.

In the early 21st century environmental issues regarding global warming from oil and gas makes the industry politically controversial.

The modern history of petroleum began in the 19th century with the refining of paraffin from crude oil.

The Scottish chemist James Young in 1847 noticed a natural petroleum seepage in the Riddings colliery at Alfreton, Derbyshire from which he distilled a light thin oil suitable for use as lamp oil, at the same time obtaining a thicker oil suitable for lubricating machinery.

The modern US petroleum industry is considered to have begun with Edwin Drake’s drilling of a 69-foot oil well in 1859, on Oil Creek near Titusville, Pennsylvania, for the Seneca Oil Company, by the end of the year output was at the rate of 15 barrels per day, Persia, Peru, Venezuela, and Mexico, and were being developed at an industrial level.

Challenges And Trends For The Oil And Gas Industry

There are three primary challenges facing the oil and gas industry today.

Investors are demanding better returns on their investment in oil and gas companies.

The second challenge is for the oil and gas industry to collectively invest approximately $500 billion each year just to keep up with demand.

Since 2015 the oil and gas industry has underinvested, especially in the upstream portion of the business.

The third challenge is for oil and gas companies to demonstrate differential and durable cash flows.

Lastly, besides all the hard skills that are needed to meet the challenges outlined here, oil and gas companies will need to continually develop the softer skills of communication, collaboration and innovation.

The oil and gas industry can meet these challenges and must to do that in partnership with customers, governments and universities.

Over-The-Counter Medications

OTC drugs are medications that are safe and effective for use by the general public without seeking treatment by a health professional.

Popular OTC Related SearchesMore information about OTC products What is an Rx-to-OTC switch?

Many OTC drugs have undergone a prescription to over-the-counter switch – also known as “Rx-to-OTC switch” – meaning they were previously available only with a prescription but now can be bought as a nonprescription product.

These products, while considered OTC, are kept behind the pharmacy counter and are dispensed by a pharmacist.

The review of OTC medications is primarily handled by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Division of Drug Information, the Office of Drug Evaluation, and the Nonprescription Drug Advisory Committee.

An OTC drug monograph is established for each class of product.

Consumers should read the “Drug Facts” label that is found on all OTC products.

Over-The-Counter Drug

In November 2016, India’s Drug Consultative Committee announced it was embarking on establishing a definition of drugs which could be dispensed without a prescription.

The drug can be on the shelves like any other product.

In the United States, the manufacture and sale of OTC substances are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration.

The FDA requires that all “New drugs” obtain a New Drug Application before entering interstate commerce, but the act exempts any drugs generally recognized as safe and effective.

There is also the possibility that certain OTC drug products are marketed under the grandfathering provisions of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, but the FDA has never formally acknowledged that any legitimate grandfathered OTC drug exists.

The Federal Trade Commission regulates advertising of OTC products, in contrast to prescription drug advertising, which is regulated by the FDA. The FDA requires OTC products to be labeled with an approved “Drug Facts” label to educate consumers about their medications.

OTC drugs are usually also required to have little or no abuse potential, although in some areas drugs such as codeine are available OTC. Over time, often 3-6 years, drugs that prove themselves safe and appropriate as prescription medicines may be switched from prescription to OTC. An example of this is diphenhydramine, an anti-histamine which once required a prescription but now is available OTC nearly everywhere.

30 Top-Selling Over-The-Counter Drugs In The US

Over-the-counter drugs are a huge business for the pharmaceutical industry in the United States, accounting for over $35 billion in gross revenues in 2018.

Despite having lower per-unit costs, OTC drugs often surpass prescription drugs in terms of annual sales.

OTC drugs include those you can buy off the drugstore, grocery store, or convenience store shelf as well as those dispensed by a healthcare provider without a prescription.

OTC drugs do not include dietary supplements, such as vitamins, herbal remedies, and “Nutriceuticals,” all of which are loosely regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The definition of an OTC drug is often ill-defined and contentious, with advocates alternately calling for some drugs to be sold without a prescription and others to be pulled off drugstore shelves as unsafe for OTC use.

Restricted OTC products are commonly referred to as behind-the-counter drugs, a classification first approved by the U.S. Congress in 1984 when regulators decided to allow the sale of ibuprofen over the counter.

It is important to read the product label before using an OTC product and to advise your healthcare provider about any and all drugs you are taking, including dietary supplements and recreational drugs.

5 Over-The-Counter Medicines That Could Kill You

The danger of overdosing on common medicines is all too real – and still comes with the same deadly side effects as illegal drugs do.

Take only the recommended dose and don’t take other pills that contain APAP. Initial signs of an APAP overdose include loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, sweating and confusion or weakness.

What is tricky is how many other drugs contain APAP. If you take Tylenol for your cold, and then Midol for your period cramps, you’ll pass the recommended dosage.

NSAID drugs hospitalize over 100,000 people and kill 16,500 in the US each year due to overdoses, wrongful combinations, or incorrect usage.

Cough syrupAlong with other cold medicines that contain Dextromethorphan, cough syrup doesn’t have any serious side effects when taken as directed, but extreme doses of this medication can cause a sort of hallucinogenic state; making it a popular and cheap way for teens to get high.

Teens are extracting the DXM from the syrups to take as a powder or pills, which is making overdosing on cold medicine much more common.

Always follow the directions before taking any sort of medication, and be sure to keep an eye on your children to make sure they aren’t abusing these potentially dangerous drugs.

Types, Designs, Applications And Selection Guide

There are two main types of regenerative heat exchangers-static heat exchangers and dynamic heat exchangers.

There are two types of heat transfer mechanisms employed by heat exchangers-single-phase or two-phase heat transfer.

Some of the types of shell and tube heat exchangers available include helical coil heat exchangers and double pipe heat exchangers, and some of the applications include preheating, oil cooling, and steam generation.

Another method is by choosing a design suited for the fluid properties: plate heat exchangers are capable of handling low to medium pressure fluids but at higher flow rates than other types of heat exchangers, and two-phase heat exchangers are necessary when handling fluids which require a phase change throughout the heat transfer process.

The desired thermal output and rate of heat transfer help determine the optimal type and design of heat exchanger as some heat exchanger designs offer greater heater transfer rates and can handle higher temperatures than other designs, albeit at a higher cost.

Table 1, below, indicates some of the common industries and applications of the types of heat exchangers previously mentioned.

This guide provides a basic understanding of heat exchangers, the designs and types available, their applications, and considerations for use.

Heat Exchanger

Since double pipe heat exchangers are simple, they are used to teach heat exchanger design basics to students as the fundamental rules for all heat exchangers are the same.

Plate Heat Exchanger A plate heat exchanger contains an amount of thin shaped heat transfer plates bundled together.

A third type of heat exchanger is a plate and shell heat exchanger, which combines plate heat exchanger with shell and tube heat exchanger technologies.

A fourth type of heat exchanger uses an intermediate fluid or solid store to hold heat, which is then moved to the other side of the heat exchanger to be released.

Micro heat exchangers, Micro-scale heat exchangers, or microstructured heat exchangers are heat exchangers in which fluid flows in lateral confinements with typical dimensions below 1 mm.

By periodically calculating the overall heat transfer coefficient from exchanger flow rates and temperatures, the owner of the heat exchanger can estimate when cleaning the heat exchanger is economically attractive.

Common types of heat exchangers used in this application are the double pipe heat exchanger as well as the plate and frame heat exchanger.

What Is Heat Exchanger

A plate heat exchanger is a type of heat exchanger that uses metal plates to transfer heat between two fluids.

In cases of combined heat transfer for a heat exchanger, there are two values for h. There is the convective heat transfer coefficient for the fluid film inside the tubes and a convective heat transfer coefficient for the fluid film outside the tubes.

Online monitoring of commercial heat exchangers is done by tracking the overall heat transfer coefficient, because the overall heat transfer coefficient tends to decline over time due to fouling.

By periodically calculating the overall heat transfer coefficient from exchanger flow rates and temperatures, the operator of the heat exchanger can estimate the lifetime of heat exchangers.

Logarithmic Mean Temperature Difference – LMTD. In order to solve certain heat exchanger problems, engineers often use a log mean temperature difference, which is used to determine the temperature driving force for heat transfer in heat exchangers.

In a cross-flow, in which one system, usually the heat sink, has the same nominal temperature at all points on the heat transfer surface, a similar relation between exchanged heat and LMTD holds, but with a correction factor.

To define the effectiveness of a heat exchanger, we must first determine the maximum possible heat transfer rate, qmax, for the heat exchanger.

How Do Heat Exchangers Work?

Have you ever watched wisps of smoke drifting from smokestacks and wondered how much energy they’re uselessly pumping into the air? Maybe less than you might think! Saving energy is a huge and costly problem for factory bosses and it’s one reason they often install devices called heat exchangers to salvage as much heat as possible from waste gases.

Engines in cars, ships, and planes use heat exchangers to work more efficiently, gas boilers use them to heat up hot water, and if you have a refrigerator or an air-conditioner in your home, those are using heat exchangers too.

In theory, we could get the heat from the gas jets just by throwing cold water onto them, but then the flames would go out! The essential principle of a heat exchanger is that it transfers the heat without transferring the fluid that carries the heat.

You can see heat exchangers in all kinds of places, usually working to heat or cool buildings or helping engines and machines to work more efficiently.

All heat exchangers do the same job-passing heat from one fluid to another-but they work in many different ways.

Plate/fin heat exchangers have lots of thin metal plates or fins with a large surface area; heat exchangers in gas furnaces work this way.

If you’re still confused about what a heat exchanger is, you might find it helpful to think about two examples of everyday, heat-moving devices that transport heat but aren’t really heat exchangers.

HVAC Heat Exchangers Explained

HVAC heat exchangers usually do one of two things, they either heat or cool air or water.

Microchannel heat exchangers are an advancement on the finned tube coil providing superior heat exchange although these are only used for refrigeration and air conditioning systems.

These heat exchangers can be used in the winter months to reclaim the heat from the buildings exhaust stream, this heat is captured by the thermal wheel and transferred into the fresh air intake stream which will be much cooler than the air inside the building.

Fuel is combusted and the hot gas is sent through the heat exchanger, the heat of this is convected into the walls of the heat exchanger, the cooler ducted air passes across the other side causing a temperature difference so the heat of the gas is conducted through the wall and will be carried away by convection.

The basic things to know about these two types of heat exchangers is that Gasket type can be dismantled, its heating or cooling capacity can be increased or decreased simply by adding or removing heat transfer plates.

A chiller will use either a shell and tube heat exchanger, a plate heat exchanger or a finned tube heat exchanger.

For example an air cooled chiller may use a shell and tube heat exchanger for the evaporator, a finned tube or micro channel heat exchanger for the condenser, a brazed plate heat exchanger for the compressors oil lubrication cooling and a gasket plate heat exchanger to indirectly connect the chiller to the central cooling circuit.

Low-Cost Carrier Plans To Fly Nonstop Between Anchorage And Vancouver, B.C., This Summer

Until the COVID-19 pandemic crippled the travel infrastructure in 2020, Yakutia Airlines had been flying back and forth between Anchorage and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky since the summer of 2012.

During the summer schedule, which lasted between mid-July and mid-September, Yakutia operated the only passenger airline service between Alaska and Asia.

At about the same time AirRussia was canceling its schedule, another airline announced plans to fly nonstop from Vancouver, British Columbia, to Anchorage this summer.

Flair Airlines is a Canadian ULCC, or ultra low cost carrier.

Several other ULCCs fly to Anchorage during the summer, including Frontier Airlines, to Denver, and Sun Country Airlines, to Minneapolis.

Allegiant Air, another ULCC, used to fly during the summer from Anchorage to Bellingham.

Holland America Line will have six ships sailing in Alaska this summer.

Thai AirAsia Among Top 3 Most On-Time Low Cost Carriers

BANGKOK, March 4 – Thai AirAsia is among the top three “Most on-time low cost carriers” in 2021, aviation and travel data analytics firm Cirium said in its annual review.

Thai AirAsia was the only Thai airline given that recognition.

The annual review said 97.47 per cent of its flights operated on time in 2019.

AirAsia Thailand chief executive officer Santisuk Klongchaiya said in a statement that the airline is extremely proud of this recognition that highlights staff and crew dedication and operational performance during these challenging times.

He added that AirAsia twice received a full 7/7 rating from airlineratings.com for service excellence, the latest being in February this year.

Santisuk pointed out that in Cirium’s comprehensive evaluation, even amid obstacles brought about by the COVID-19 situation, which included a temporary suspension of flights in support of government policies and a scale-back of services, AirAsia continued to develop and maintain its high standards, especially in terms of safety, hygiene and on-time performance.

The Cirium 2021 On-Time Performance Review is based on accurate data analysis trusted by businesses and investors in both the aviation and airport sectors for enhancing on-time performance in the aviation and tourism industries.

What Is A Low-Cost Carrier?

While a lower price is one difference, it’s not the only difference, and low fares alone don’t mean an airline is a low-cost carrier.

While the most obvious difference between low-cost and full-service carriers is the extra fees low-cost airlines charge for things like in-flight beverages, carry-on bags, or pre-flight seat selection-many full-service airlines have responded to the low base fares of budget carriers by offering basic economy.

For an even more in-depth look at the differences, plus all the details you need to make an informed decision about what airline ticket to buy, don’t miss our article, “Everything You Need to Know About Flying Budget Airlines.”

In order for an airline to be allowed to fly in the US, it has to abide by the same FAA safety regulations whether it’s a low-cost carrier or a legacy carrier.

Some of our favorite low-cost airlines are Norwegian, Air Canada Rouge, LEVEL Airlines, Southwest, and AirAsia X. Skytrax’s most recent list of the best low-cost airlines lists the top five as AirAsia, easyJet, Norwegian, Southwest Airlines, and AirAsia X. Norwegian, AirAsia X, Jetstar Airways, WestJet, and Eurowings make up their top five best long-haul low-cost airlines.

Each low-cost carrier has a different set of amenities it deems “Extra,” for which passengers are charged an additional fee beyond the price of the airline ticket itself.

Checking in at the ticket desk: Online check-in helps budget airlines reduce the cost of paying ticket agents.

Low-Cost Carrier

A low-cost carrier or low-cost airline is an airline that is operated with an especially high emphasis on minimizing operating costs and without some of the traditional services and amenities provided in the fare, resulting in lower fares and fewer comforts.

As of April 2020, the world’s largest low-cost carrier is Southwest Airlines, which operates primarily in the United States, as well as in some surrounding areas.

The term originated within the airline industry referring to airlines with a lower operating cost structure than their competitors.

While the term is often applied to any carrier with low ticket prices and limited services, regardless of their operating models, low-cost carriers should not be confused with regional airlines that operate short flights without service, or with full-service airlines offering some reduced fares.

Which led to lower fares, many airlines remained bound to these salary agreements and pensions, whereas new low-cost carriers employed new staff with lower salaries, especially for cabin crew, keeping personnel costs low and allowing for competitive fares.

Following the appointment of former Allegiant Air COO Jude Bricker as their new CEO, Sun Country Airlines began transitioning to an ultra low-cost carrier model in 2017.

In the United States, airline carriers such as Midway Airlines and America West Airlines, which commenced operations after 1978, soon realized a cost of available seat mile advantage in relation to the traditional and established, legacy airlines such as Trans World Airlines and American Airlines.

What Is A Low Cost Carrier, Really?

Nowadays when I refer to an airline as a low cost carrier, someone usually comments something along the lines of “I don’t know why you use that term, they don’t charge less than other airlines.” For example, I just wrote about WestJet being a low cost carrier, and some commented that, claiming that WestJet doesn’t have cheaper fares than Air Canada.

I think it’s also important to differentiate low cost carriers from ultra low cost carriers.

Ultra low cost carriers are those that actually charge fees for everything, have super low fares, pay their employees less, etc.

The important thing to remember is that historically the term low cost carrier has been based on the airlines’ operating costs rather than the services they offer.

In other words, a low cost carrier isn’t one that necessarily has lower fares, but rather one that has lower operating costs.

I think we can quite easily define ultra low cost carriers, but the line between “Low cost carriers” and “Full service airlines” is being blurred.

Is the Southwest business model really low cost anymore, and is the British Airways and United business model really full service anymore?

Automated Pool Cleaner

An automated pool cleaner is a vacuum cleaner that is designed to collect debris and sediment from swimming pools with minimal human intervention.

The first suction-side pool cleaner was invented by Roy B. Everson of Chicago in 1937 and was named the “Swimming Pool Cleaner”.

Two years later, the “Automatic Swimming Pool Cleaner” was created by Andrew L. Pansini; it was the first truly automatic pool cleaner and was touted by Pansini as “Effective to remove the scum, dirt and other accumulations from both the bottom and sidewalls of a pool to disperse foreign matter in the water for removal therefrom by a normal pump-filter system of the pool”.

The design is used in the Polaris Pool Cleaner, a commonly used pool cleaner amongst modern pool owners.

This type of pool cleaner pumps water out of the pool via its skimmer or drains, uses it for locomotion and debris suction, then returns it after being filtered via pool return or outlet valves.

In the US, commercial pool cleaners need to be certified by the National Spa Pool Foundation as Certified Pool Operators.

Clearness: At all times when the pool is in use the water shall be sufficiently clear to permit a black disk six inches in diameter on a white field, placed on the bottom of the pool at the deepest point, to be visible from both sides of the pool when the water is quiet.

AGL Energy will be rebranded as Accel Energy and hold the company’s coal-fired power plants and wind farm contracts, while the electricity and gas retail assets will be spun off into a separately listed company, AGL Australia.

In the 2019-20 financial year, AGL came first place on the list, with reported emissions of 42.4 million tonnes, which is equivalent to 9 million cars on the road. AGL is responsible for more than double the carbon emissions of Australia’s second-biggest electricity generator, and more than BHP, Rio Tinto, Glencore, and Qantas combined.

AGL Energy Rejects Revised Takeover Proposal From Brookfield, Atlassian Co-Founder

AGL Energy Ltd. rejected a revised takeover proposal from a Brookfield Asset Management Inc.-led consortium, saying it still materially undervalued the power generator and retailer.

The consortium headed by Brookfield and including Grok Ventures, the private investment vehicle of Atlassian Corp. Plc. co-founder Mike Cannon-Brookes, recently sweetened its proposal to 8.25 Australian dollars a share, up from A$7.50 per share.

AGL Rejects Second Bid From Mike Cannon-Brookes

A tech billionaire has revealed his next move after his attempted takeover of energy giant AGL was rejected for a second time.

Tech billionaire Mike Cannon-Brookes and his partners Brookfield Asset Management have backed down on their bid to take over AGL energy.

After the board rejected plan for a second time, Mr Cannon-Brookes said it he was putting down the pens.

The electricity company’s board rejected the first bid over claims it materially undervalued the company.

It’s expected AGL will now press ahead with a controversial move to split the company.

Mr Cannon-Brookes had hoped, if his bid was successful, to accelerate AGL’s plan to exit from coal, and close all three coal plants by 2030.

Originally published as AGL rejects second bid from Mike Cannon-Brookes to take over energy company.

AGL Energy Ltd Quote

We’re strongly against an AGL Energy takeover both at this time and at the current share price.

In our opinion, AGL is heavily undervalued, and a better takeover price would be achieved after the demerger, or better still, after earnings recover over the next couple of years.

The bid price is 5% above the last closing price but 44% below our fair value estimate and represents a fiscal 2024 P/E ratio of 9 times on our forecasts.

AGL directors rejected the offer, saying it materially undervalues the company.

We think AGL’s retail business-to be known as AGL Australia-would be an attractive takeover target for large domestic and foreign enterprises trying to grow in the Australian energy sector, such as Telstra, Ampol, Shell, Total, Enel, and Iberdrola.

These firms would be less likely to enter a bidding war for AGL Energy as it currently stands because of the risks of divesting the coal power stations, which they would be unlikely to keep.

While most acquirers probably wouldn’t want the coal power stations, we think AGL’s generation business-to be known as Accel Energy-has a good medium-term earnings outlook given strength in wholesale electricity prices.

Michael Cannon-Brookes is an Australian billionaire, the co-founder and co-CEO of the software company Atlassian.

Cannon-Brookes often carries the epithet of accidental billionaire after he and his business partner Scott Farquhar founded Atlassian with the simple aim of replicating the then-typical graduate starting salary of A$48,000 at the big corporations without having to work for someone else.

With Scott Farquhar, Cannon-Brookes is the co-founder and co-CEO of Atlassian, a collaboration software company.

In September 2020, it was revealed that Cannon-Brookes was listed on a Chinese Government ‘Overseas Key Individuals Database’ of prominent international individuals of interest for China illustrating his prominence in the Australian technological and industry landscape.

Cannon-Brookes has been a prolific commentator on public policy in Australia, collaborating with the Australian Government on a number of occasions, as well as publicly offering his assistance to solve energy and technology policy challenges.

In December 2020, Cannon-Brookes bought a minority stake in NBA team Utah Jazz, along with Qualtrics cofounder Ryan Smith.

Alongside his business partner, Farquhar, Cannon-Brookes debuted on the 2007 BRW Young Rich list of the richest Australians aged under 40; and on the BRW Rich 200 in 2013.

Mike Cannon-Brookes Walks Away After AGL Rejects 2nd Takeover Bid

AGL has rejected a revised takeover bid from Mike Cannon-Brookes and Brookfield.

The $8.25 a share bid was a 10% increase on their first bid two weeks ago and worth $5.5 billion.

Atlassian billionaire Mike Cannon-Brookes is walking away from plans to acquire Australia’s largest energy supplier, AGL, after the ASX-listed company rejected a second $5.5 billion takeover bid for the business.

AGL shares sat below the original takeover offer of $7.50 made and rejected by the board a fortnight ago, sitting at $7.43 at Friday’s market close.

A fortnight ago, when the first takeover offer was made, AGL shares sat at $7.16 following the company’s 1H FY22 results announced on February 10.

“If the AGL directors believe the company is worth $9 or $10 a share, why on earth haven’t they been buying the stock, when it’s trading around $7.40?,” Gocher said.

“CEO Graeme Hunt has claimed that the Brookfield consortium should be offering a 30% premium to the current share price.”If Hunt genuinely believes the company is worth that much, why has he not spent his own money on AGL shares since September 2018, despite receiving millions in remuneration since?”.

AGL Energy has rejected an improved takeover bid from a consortium including Australian billionaire Mike Cannon-Brookes, forcing the would-be predators to put “Our pens down”.

“The Brookfield-Grok consortium looking to take private & transform AGL is putting out pens down – with great sadness,” he tweeted.

The target’s board said the revised offer was still well below both the fair value of the company on a change of control basis, given the expected value to be generated by its proposed demerger.

“The proposed demerger will be a catalyst for the potential realisation of shareholder value,” Chair Peter Botten said on Monday.

“It will create two industry leading companies with distinct value propositions.”It will allow each business to be valued separately and more positively by the market on the basis of their own specific fundamentals.

AGL plans to split the company into two listed entities – green energy retailer AGL Australia and coal-fired electricity generator Accel Energy – by June 30.The proposed entities have been assigned emissions reductions targets, putting them on course to reach net-zero in 2040 and 2047 respectively.

AGL shares last traded at $7.43, valuing the group at $4.8 billion.

AGL Rejects Higher Bid From Mike Cannon-Brookes And Brookfield, Potentially Ending Takeover Push

AGL Energy has formally rejected a revised takeover bid from the Canadian asset manager Brookfield and the tech billionaire Mike Cannon-Brookes, seeing off the unsolicited bid that the suitors claimed would have been the world’s largest decarbonisation project.

As expected, AGL’s shares opened lower, dropped 10 cents in early trading on Monday from Friday’s close, or about 1.4%, to $7.33.”The AGL Energy board considered that the revised unsolicited proposal is still well below both the fair value of the company on a change of control basis, and relative to the expected value of the proposed demerger,” the company said in a statement.

As a result, it was “Not in the best interests of AGL energy shareholders.”

By July, AGL plans to split into a mainly generating unit, Accel Energy, and a retailing entity, AGL Australia.

Mike Cannon-Brookes March 6, 2022 The initial audacious bid had drawn opposition from the AGL board, which claimed it materially undervalued the company.

AGL already plans to shut its Liddell plant in the Hunter Valley of New South Wales by April 2023.

While the bidders indicating they would give up if the revised bid was rejected, one source questioned whether it might be tempted back if – as is expected – AGL’s shared take a plunge when trading resumes on Monday.

Nairobi – Global payments company, World Remit, sees remittance inflows to Kenya growing aggressively in 2022 thanks to advancements in digital technology in the financial services sector.

Money sent back home by Kenyans in the diaspora has hit a record high every year since 2016, with data from the Central Bank of Kenya showing that inflows reached USD 3.71 billion in 2021, up 20.2 percent from USD 3.09 billiona year earlier.

Western Union

Founded in 1851 as the New York and Mississippi Valley Printing Telegraph Company in Rochester, New York, the company changed its name to the Western Union Telegraph Company in 1856 after merging with a competitor.

In 1856 the company merged with its competitor the Erie and Michigan Telegraph Company, controlled by John James Speed, Francis Ormand Jonathan Smith and Ezra Cornell and changed its name to Western Union Telegraph Company at Cornell’s insistence.

After the creation of the ‘Six Nations’ system, Western Union continued to acquire both larger & smaller telegraph companies and by 1864 had transformed from a regional monopoly into a national oligopolist with its only serious competitors being the American Telegraph Company and the United States Telegraph Company.

In 1963, Western Union organized its international cable system properties and its right-of-way for connecting international telegraph lines into a separate company called Western Union International, which it sold that year to American Securities.

The fleet of satellites, called Westar, carried communications within the Western Union company for telegram and mailgram message data to Western Union bureaus nationwide.

Most of these services were discontinued by Western Union in the late 1980s due to a lack of profitability, with the company’s divisions providing said services being divested and sold to other companies, such as the 1988 sale of WU’s satellite fleet and services to Hughes Space and Communications, and the sale of WU’s Airfone service to GTE in 1986.

The Central Bank of Ireland reprimanded and fined Western Union €1.75m in May 2015 because of failures in anti money laundering practices which could have left the firm’s payment services open to being used for money laundering and/or terrorist financing saying that they were concerned that Western Union “Failed to have in place sufficiently robust systems and procedures to train agents, to monitor and identify suspicious activity in respect of smaller transactions, and to maintain appropriate records” and “The splitting of payments into many separate smaller payments is a common method used to launder money. Similarly, terrorist financing is often carried out by small payment transfers.”

Euronet Worldwide Reports Fourth Quarter And Full Year 2021

“Our strong full year growth rates across all three segments validated our strategy to stay the course during the unprecedented challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. The investments we made in our physical and digital distribution networks, our product offerings and our leading-edge technology have resulted in significant expansion of our REN implementations and new agreements as well as the exciting launch in November 2021 of our Dandelion real-time cross-border payment network. Our leading global networks, industry leading technology and our global product portfolio all contributed to our production of approximately $225 million in cash in 2021 and will continue to fuel Euronet’s growth for years to come.”

Due in large part to COVID-19-related disruptions which resulted in lower-than-expected money transfer transaction volumes on certain contracts, the Company recognized a $38.6 million non-cash contract asset impairment in the Money Transfer Segment during the fourth quarter 2021.

The full year 2020 results include impairments of goodwill and non-cash acquired intangible assets of $106.6 million.

The Company anticipates, based on recent trends, current global COVID-19 government mandates and the impacts of Omicron on the first quarter travel trends, that its first quarter adjusted EBITDA will be in the range of approximately $75 million to $85 million.

The fourth quarter results also reflect the reduction of mobile operator commissions of approximately $5.0 million, which equally reduced revenue and direct costs resulting in no impact on gross profit or operating income growth, together with the loss of a key customer which generated approximately $5.0 million annual operating profits.

Corporate and Other reports $16.1 million of expense for the fourth quarter 2021 compared with $13.5 million for the fourth quarter 2020.

For the full year 2021, Corporate and Other reports $58.1 million of expense compared with $43.1 million for the full year 2020.
