Share Price

A share price is the price of a single share of a number of saleable equity shares of a company.

Over short periods, especially for younger or smaller firms, the relationship between share price and dividends can be quite unmatched.

Many U.S.-based companies seek to keep their share price low, partly based on “Round lot” trading.

A corporation can adjust its stock price by a stock split, substituting a quantity of shares at one price for a different number of shares at an adjusted price where the value of shares x price remains equivalent.

Many major firms like to keep their price in the $25 to $75 price range.

A US share must be priced at $1 or more to be covered by NASDAQ. If the share price falls below that level, the stock is “Delisted” and becomes an OTC. A stock must have a price of $1 or more for 10 consecutive trading days during each month to remain listed.

Robert D. Coleman’s Evolution of Stock Pricing notes that the invention of double-entry bookkeeping in the fourteenth century led to company valuations being based upon ratios such as price per unit of earnings, price per unit of net worth and price per unit of cash flow.

Bill Ackman

Ackman opened his testimony saying, “As a shareholder of Valeant, I recognize my investment was an endorsement of Valeant’s strategy.” Ackman sold his remaining 27.2 million share position in Valeant to the investment bank Jefferies for about $300 million in March 2017.

Former Rep. Bob Barr called on Congress to investigate Ackman’s use of public relations and regulatory pressure in his short campaign, and Harvey L. Pitt, a former chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, has questioned whether Ackman aims to move the price rather than spread the truth.

On March 12, 2015, The Wall Street Journal reported that prosecutors in the Manhattan U.S. attorney’s office and the FBI were investigating whether people hired by Ackman “Made false statements about Herbalife’s business model to regulators and others in order to spur investigations into the company and lower its stock price.” In March 2015, U.S. District Judge Dale Fischer, in Los Angeles, California, dismissed a suit filed by Herbalife investors alleging the company is operating an illegal pyramid scheme.

During the segment, Icahn called Ackman “a crybaby in the schoolyard” and claimed that going public with his short position would eventually force Ackman into the “Mother of all short squeezes”.

Ackman later received criticism for actively buying discounted equity stakes in the very companies he was warning could fail; however, Ackman already had realized roughly half of the gains before appearing during the CNBC interview.

From 2012 to 2018, Ackman held a US$1 billion short against the nutrition company Herbalife, a company he has claimed is a pyramid scheme designed as a multi-level marketing firm.

Ackman married Karen Ann Herskovitz, a landscape architect, on July 10, 1994, and they have three children: Eloise Ackman, Lucy Ackman, and Liza Ackman.

Bill Ackman Says Russia’S Attack On Ukraine Means World War III Has Likely Already Started

Billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ackman has warned that World War III has “Likely started already” amid Russia’s ongoing attack on Ukraine.

Billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ackman has warned that World War III has “Likely started already” amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

In early 2020, when fewer than 7,000 coronavirus cases had been confirmed in the U.S., Ackman – who is CEO of Pershing Square Capital – called for a 30-day national lockdown and warned that “Hell is coming” in an interview with CNBC. Ackman later defended his comments after his fund announced shortly thereafter that it had made more than $2 billion on bets against the markets.

On Saturday, Ackman said that “WWIII has likely started already, but we have been slow to recognize it,” although he added that there was “Much more we can do before we enter a hot war with Russia.”

Supplying Ukraine with the West’s best weaponry, intelligence and drones would allow NATO members to assist Ukraine without putting troops on the ground, Ackman said.

If sanctions failed to have an impact on Putin’s actions, Ackman added, NATO should reconsider enforcing a no-fly zone over Ukraine.

Ultimately Ackman argued that the key to ending the crisis in Ukraine sat with China.

Ackman’S Pershing Square Takes New Stake In Canadian Pacific

Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.comBOSTON, March 7 – Billionaire investor William Ackman has built a new stake in railroad operator Canadian Pacific, returning to one of his most profitable investments as rail firms eye a boost from the drive to cut carbon emissions and as manufacturing is brought back to the United States and Mexico from abroad.Ackman’s hedge fund Pershing Square Capital Management reported owning 2.8 million Canadian Pacific shares at the end of Dec. 31, 2021, according to a regulatory filing on Monday.

Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.comBy Monday, Pershing Square owned an additional 12 million shares through forward contracts that it intends to exercise, Ackman said.

The investment will make Pershing Square one of Canadian Pacific’s top 20 shareholders.

With this new stake in Canadian Pacific, Ackman is going back to a company that had been one of Pershing Square’s biggest winners, earning the firm some $2.6 billion on its investment.

Six years on Canadian Pacific is being run by Keith Creel, who took the top job in 2017 after his mentor Hunter Harrison left Canadian Pacific to run rival railway CSX Corp.”Keith and the team have done a superb job since,” Ackman said, adding: “We are delighted to again be an owner of this remarkable and growing franchise at a time when transcontinental rail infrastructure could not be more important for our economy and our continent.”

Creel engineered a major win last year when Canadian Pacific acquired Kansas City Southern after a protracted battle.

The merger would set Canadian Pacific up as the first rail company to have a network that extends from Canada to Mexico.

Bill Ackman Calls It Quits On His Giant SPAC Days After Shareholder Lawsuit

Billionaire investor Bill Ackman said he’s throwing in the towel on his giant blank-check company – just days after he was slapped with a shareholder lawsuit that claims it was set up illegally.

In a Thursday letter to shareholders of his $4 billion special-purpose acquisition company, or SPAC, called Pershing Square Tontine Holdings, Ackman told investors he plans to return their money and blames the lawsuit for ruining his chances of closing a deal to buy a 10-percent stake in Universal Music Group.

The lawyers who brought the suit, former SEC commissioner Robert Jackson and Yale Law professor John Morley, allege Ackman’s SPAC has been illegally acting as an investment company instead of an operating company, also alleging that Ackman has improperly positioned himself to reap hundreds of millions of dollars in fees.

Ackman said “All is not lost,” noting that Pershing is “Working on obtaining approval” from the Securities and Exchange Commission for an entirely new kind of blank check company – a SPARC or special purpose acquisition rights company, which only asks investors for cash if it finds a deal.

Ackman, who has just 11 more months to find a target before he will be forced to return money to shareholders, said the vehicle could be approved by the SEC “Shortly.” If the SPARC is approved, Ackman will return investors the $20 per share they spent and give them a warrant to buy into the SPARC when it closes a deal.

Early Friday morning Ackman posted on Twitter how a SPARC would preserve optionality for shareholders by letting them by into the deal when the timing made sense.

In June, Ackman announced he’d use his SPAC to buy the UMG stake after nearly a year of searching for a target.

Pershing Square Capital Management

Pershing Square Capital Management is an American hedge fund management company founded and run by Bill Ackman, located at 787 11th Avenue in New York.

In 2004, with $54 million in funding from his personal funds and former business partner Leucadia National, Ackman started Pershing Square Capital Management.

In November 2010, Pershing Square helped the company emerge from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

After the controversial drug prices and operations of Valeant became public, Ackman and Valeant’s board fired former CEO Mike Pearson, and Pershing Square sold all of its stake in Valeant with a total loss of $4bn. In September 2016, Pershing Square continued its investment in fast food by buying a 9.9% stake in Chipotle Mexican Grill.

In 2018, Ackman dumped $500 million into the publicly traded arm of Pershing Square Capital Management stating it was significantly undervalued at roughly $15 a share.

After a persistent political and grassroots campaign funded by Ackman and the firm, the Federal Trade Commission initiated a civil investigation into Herbalife, causing its stock to drop enough that by March 2014, Pershing Square was nearly even on their bet.

Pershing Square Tontine Holdings is a blank check company formed by Bill Ackman that went public in July 22, 2020 at a value of $4 billion and trade under the ticker symbol PSTH.U before the split of its warrants and shares.

Pershing Square Capital Management, L.P. Releases Le er to Investors January 26, 2022, New York – // Pershing Square Capital Management, L.P. today released the following le er from Bill Ackman to investors: Dear Pershing Square Investor, Beginning on Friday and over the last several days, we acquired more than 3.1 million shares of Ne lix, Inc., making us a top-20 shareholder in the company.

We have greatly admired Ne lix both as consumers and as investors, but have never previously owned a stake in the company.

We retained interest rate swap ons that are currently out-of-the-money, and also purchased some addi onal longer-dated, out-of-the-money swap ons.

The result of all of the above is that the no onal size of our interest rate hedge has been reduced by 80%, the term of a substan al por on of the hedge we retain has been extended, and our dollar investment in hedges has been reduced by more than 90%. Had we not sold the hedge, we could have likely realized more gains based on the increase in rates, largely today, since our sale.

We invested in out-of-the-money interest rate swap ons in December 2020 and early 2021 because we believed that it was likely that the combina on of aggressive scal policy, monetary policy, and the reopening of the economy due to vaccines would cause non-transitory in a on, which would require the Federal Reserve to raise rates.

We do not believe that the recent move in rates has had any meaningful impact on our companies’ intrinsic values.

While we do not know what the stock market will do tomorrow, next month or even over the next year or two, we believe that our companies will con nue to compound their intrinsic values at high rates for the long term.

Initial Public Offering Definition

An IPO allows a company to raise capital from public investors.

The Dutch are credited with conducting the first modern IPO by offering shares of the Dutch East India Company to the general public.

IPOs have been used as a way for companies to raise capital from public investors through the issuance of public share ownership.

Companies take the necessary steps to meet specific public share offering requirements.

Some of the major disadvantages include the fact that IPOs are expensive, and the costs of maintaining a public company are ongoing and usually unrelated to the other costs of doing business.

An IPO is essentially a fundraising method used by large companies, in which the company sells its shares to the public for the first time.

IPOs tend to garner a lot of media attention, some of which is deliberately cultivated by the company going public.

How Companies Are Valued And Listed

A company is considered a private company, usually with a small number of investors.

Reasons Why Companies Go Through an IPO. Companies that are looking to grow often use an Initial Public Offering to raise capital.

In the United States, public companies are monitored by the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Public companies are made up of thousands of shareholders and are subject to rules and regulations.

Going public is an expensive process, which is why, historically, only private companies with strong fundamentals and high profitability potential go through an IPO. Lastly, the information of a public company is readily available online, which may be useful to competitors.

Despite all the valuation work mentioned above, there is still a tendency for IPO underpricing to occur when companies go public.

Hedge funds pool money from investors and invest in securities or other types of investments with the goal of getting positive returns.

Hedge funds are not regulated as heavily as mutual funds and generally have more leeway than mutual funds to pursue investments and strategies that may increase the risk of investment losses.

Hedge funds are limited to wealthier investors who can afford the higher fees and risks of hedge fund investing, and institutional investors, including pension funds.

Hedge funds may hold investments that are difficult to sell and may be difficult to value.

Hedge funds typically charge an asset management fee of 1-2% of assets, plus a “Performance fee” of 20% of the hedge fund’s profit.

A performance fee could motivate a hedge fund manager to take greater risks in the hope of generating a larger return.

Hedge Fund Definition

As might be expected, the appeal of many hedge funds lies in the reputation of their managers, many of whom are seen as stars in the closed world of hedge fund investing.

How Hedge Funds Are Categorized Each hedge fund is designed to take advantage of specific market opportunities.

High-profile money managers deserted the traditional mutual fund industry in droves in the early 1990s, seeking fame and fortune as hedge fund managers.

Hedge Fund Managers Have a Wide Latitude A hedge fund’s investment universe is limited only by its mandate.

First Step in Picking a Hedge Fund When looking for a high-quality hedge fund, it is important for an investor to identify the metrics that are important to them and the results required for each.

A wealthy individual who can afford to diversify into a hedge fund might be attracted to the reputation of its manager, the specific assets in which the fund is invested, or the unique strategy that it employs.

Hedge Fund

The elements contributing to a hedge fund strategy include the hedge fund’s approach to the market, the particular instrument use, the market sector the fund specializes in, the method used to select investments, and the amount of diversification within the fund.

Fund of hedge funds: a hedge fund with a diversified portfolio of numerous underlying single-manager hedge funds.

In 2011, the average earnings for the 25 highest-compensated hedge fund managers in the United States was $576 million while the mean total compensation for all hedge fund investment professionals was $690,786 and the median was $312,329.

In 2007, in an effort to engage in self-regulation, 14 leading hedge fund managers developed a voluntary set of international standards in best practice and known as the Hedge Fund Standards they were designed to create a “Framework of transparency, integrity and good governance” in the hedge fund industry.

Instead of reflecting the performance of actual hedge funds, they take a statistical approach to the analysis of historic hedge fund returns and use this to construct a model of how hedge fund returns respond to the movements of various investable financial assets.

Organizations such as the European Central Bank have charged that hedge funds pose systemic risks to the financial sector, and following the failure of hedge fund Long-Term Capital Management in 1998 there was widespread concern about the potential for systemic risk if a hedge fund failure led to the failure of its counterparties.

Hedge Fund Balyasny Plans Hiring Spree For New Unit In Equities Expansion

Balyasny Asset Management is launching a new business to bolster the hedge fund’s equities strategy and plans to hire investment managers as part of the expansion.

The unit, Corbets Capital, will debut in the second half of the year with offices in New York and Greenwich, Connecticut, according to a memo seen by Bloomberg.

Tom Stephens, Balyasny’s associate director of research, will head Corbets as president, reporting to the firm’s equity-management team.

Balyasny will move some existing equities long-short teams to Corbets, which will grow to 20 teams over the next year, according to the memo.

Equities will continue to represent Balyasny’s largest allocation, and Corbets will be measured by the same metrics as the fund’s current long-short teams.

The Chicago-based firm, with about $15 billion under management, will allocate capital to Corbets through its multi-strategy funds.

Corbets is named for the iconic Corbet’s Couloir ski run in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, which features a drop from a cornice, followed by a landing in a steep and narrow gully, requiring a hard turn to avoid colliding with a rock wall.

Turbulent Times Upend Hedge Funds

Hedge funds hoping for a brighter start to the year after a largely underwhelming 2021 have instead been handed a whole new set of market problems to deal with.

Funds were on average down 2 per cent this year to Wednesday, according to data group HFR. “There’s an enormous amount happening,” said Kevin Russell, chief investment officer at UBS O’Connor, which manages $11.2bn in hedge fund assets.

“Sharply falling growth stock valuations, declining hedge fund leverage, retail selling, worsening equity market liquidity, and the underperformance of popular hedge fund long positions have created a vicious cycle in recent months,” wrote Goldman Sachs in a recent note.

Hedge funds “Were not positioned well, at the sector level”, for the outbreak of war, wrote Morgan Stanley in a client note, pointing out that funds had been holding large positions in sectors such as banks, travel and luxury.

After a bumper 2020 when hedge funds came through the onset of the coronavirus pandemic largely unscathed, last year was meant to be the year when the industry kicked on and took advantage of stocks mispriced by the previous year’s volatility and a return to more normal market conditions.

While the S&P 500 rose nearly 27 per cent, to the delight of investors holding low-cost tracker funds, hedge funds returned a more modest 10.2 per cent, according to HFR. So-called “Alpha” – industry jargon for the value that hedge funds add above and beyond overall market moves – was distinctly lacking in many parts of the industry.

BNP found in a survey of investors with $1.2tn in assets that multi-strategy funds were set to enjoy the second-highest level of inflows of any strategy, behind only funds betting on specialist equity sectors such as healthcare, this year.

Hanbury’S Hedge Fund At Odey Writes Down Russia Bets To Zero

A hedge fund at a unit of Odey Asset Management has marked its Russian equity exposures down to “Close to or at zero” after the country’s invasion of Ukraine.

His Brook Developed Markets Fund plunged 10.6% last month – one of the biggest monthly declines for the $500 million strategy in its nine-year history – due to its Russian equity bets, the letter said.

Hedge funds with exposure to Russia were hit hard last month after President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine triggered a wave of international sanctions aimed at isolating the country.

The measures made Russian assets largely untradeable, with several hedge funds losing more than 10%. Ahead of Russia’s war, Hanbury owned Sberbank of Russia PJSC, TCS Group Holding Plc, United Co of Rusal International PJSC and Inter Rao UES PJSC, according to the letter.

Markdowns at Hanbury’s hedge fund by its fund administrator reflected the closing of local exchanges and the Russian Central Bank’s indefinite ban on sales by foreign entities.

While Hanbury lost out, Crispin Odey’s main European Inc. hedge fund ended February up 7.9%, though it pared some gains during the second half of the month, according to an investor document.

The firm’s smaller Odey Concentrated Natural Resources Fund run by Henry Steel, which had benefited from a surge in Rusal shares last year, declined 23.9% last month, according to another document.

Limited Liability Partnership: The Basics

LLPs are a flexible legal and tax entity that allows partners to benefit from economies of scale by working together while also reducing their liability for the actions of other partners.

As in a general partnership, all partners in an LLP can participate in the management of the partnership.

This is an important point because there is another type of partnership-a limited partnership-in which one partner has all the power and most of the liability and the other partners are silent but have a financial stake.

With the shared management of an LLP, the liability is also shared-although, as the name suggests, it is greatly limited.

These junior partners are paid a salary and often have no stake or liability in the partnership.

How Limited Is Limited Liability? The actual details of an LLP depend on where you create it.

The liability protection also varies, but most countries’ LLPs protect individual partners from the negligence of any other partner.

Read on to learn more about how limited liability partnerships work and how to form a limited liability partnership as a small business owner.

The best way to understand a limited liability partnership is to see how it compares to other types of partnerships.

That’s a lot of liability for every partner to shoulder, so many people opt for a limited liability partnership instead. In a limited liability partnership, partners are not personally liable for the debts and obligations of the business.

Limited liability partnerships are generally connected to firms of lawyers, accountants, architects, and similar profession types-and in fact, some states like New York, California, Oregon, and Nevada only allow certain professions to form limited liability partnerships, and no one else.

The laws regarding limited liability change from state to state-both in terms of what kinds of businesses can form a limited liability partnership and what that limited liability actually means vary across the country.

To sum up: not everyone can form a limited liability partnership, not all states define limited liability the same way, and not all states recognize the limited liability partnerships of other states.

If you focus on the partnership side of limited liability partnerships and recognize that inefficiency can and will have a tangible, negative impact on your business, then this downside shouldn’t be too hard to overcome.

Limited Liability Partnership Legal Definition Of Limited Liability Partnership

A form of general partnership that provides an individual partner protection against personal liability for certain partnership obligations.

The Limited Liability Partnership is essentially a general partnership in form, with one important difference.

All states require a filing fee for registration and also require that an LLP include the words Registered Limited Liability Partnership or the abbreviation LLP in its name.

A partnership that renders specific professional services may form an LLP and register as a professional limited liability partnership.

Limited liability partnership a new kind of legal entity through which business maybe carried on in the UK, brought into effect on 6 April 2001.

It permits two or more people to combine to carry on business in partnership but gives them the benefit, which normal partnership does not, of limiting their liability to creditors.

The limited liability partnership is a separate entity from its partners and has to be registered with the Registrar of Companies.

Overview, History, How They Work

LLPs offer flexibility in structure and operation, as members can internally organize themselves into a partnership based on limited liability of the partners.

LLPs are body corporates, which means that once incorporated, they become legal entities separate from their partners.

Like corporates, an LLP is characterized by perpetual succession, which means that its existence is independent of any change in partners.

In an LLP, each of the partners is responsible only to the extent of their individual contribution, as per the LLP agreement.

LLPs do not need to remit traditional taxes, such as corporate tax or wealth tax, which are required of other companies.

Partners earning income through the LLP must settle their tax obligations individually.

LLPs are under increased scrutiny, following many large accountancy firms’ move to reorganize themselves into LLPs to relieve themselves of responsibilities owed to companies adversely affected by audit failures.

Limited Liability Partnership

Limited Liability Partnership What Is It?

A limited liability partnership is a business structure that provides some liability protection for its owners, along with some potential tax breaks and other advantages.

The partnership is a separate legal entity from the partners, but the partners have liability for the actions of the partnership in most cases.

Acronym: LLP. An LLP differs from a general partnership or a limited partnership in that all partners are protected from liability for the wrongful acts or negligence of other partners in an LLP. An LLP combines characteristics of partnerships and corporations, particularly in the area of limited liability.

Whereas an LLP limits liability for all partners, a limited partnership only limits it for some.

In a limited partnership, at least one owner must be on record as the general partner with unlimited liability, and at least one partner must be listed as a limited partner with limited liability.

A limited liability partnership is formed in the state in which the partnership does business.

The partnership should also create a partnership agreement to spell out how the partnership will be run and what happens in various circumstances.

Limited Liability Partnership: Everything You Need To Know

A limited liability partnership is a legal construction that requires a written partnership agreement.

A limited liability partnership is a legal structure that requires a written partnership agreement and often comes with annual reporting requirements depending upon your local jurisdiction.

The legal costs of forming a limited partnership can be even higher than they are to form a corporation because in some states they are governed by securities laws.

Each year, a limited partnership must file IRS Form 1065.

Generally, your private property as a partner will be protected against any legal motion in an LLP. Generally, the liability is limited in the sense that you’ll lose your investments in the partnership or business, but not your private property.

Limited liability partnerships are treated differently from state to state.

Activities used in EW include: electro-optical, infrared and radio frequency countermeasures; EM compatibility and deception; radio jamming, radar jamming and deception and electronic counter-countermeasures; electronic masking, probing, reconnaissance, and intelligence; electronic security; EW reprogramming; emission control; spectrum management; and wartime reserve modes.

Electronic warfare consists of three major subdivisions: electronic attack, electronic protection, and electronic warfare support.

Electronic warfare self-protection is a suite of countermeasure systems fitted primarily to aircraft for the purpose of protecting the host from weapons fire and can include, among others: directional infrared countermeasures; and DRFM decoy systems.

An electronic warfare tactics range is a practice range which provides for the training of personnel in electronic warfare.

In November 2021, Israel Aerospace Industries announced a new electronic warfare system named Scorpius that can disrupt radar and communications from ships, UAVs, and missiles simultaneously and at varying distances.

Lockheed Martin provides ground EW solutions to U.S. forces, allied, coalition, and partner nations through a unique next generation open architecture product platform and open business model.

Our multi-function/multi-mission capability builds on the Symphony Counter-Improvised Explosive Device Defeat system.

Since its initial fielding in 2006, over 4000 Symphony C-IED systems have been delivered and are currently deployed in support of U.S. coalition and partner nation warfighters.

Types of EW Capabilities As electronic warfare affects all military domains-land, air, sea, space, and cyberspace-each of the military services has its own EW capabilities and programs.

Gov Defense Primer: Electronic Warfare Terrestrial EW sensors and jammers-which can be located on land or on ships at sea-are limited by the amount of power available; these capabilities are also limited due to variance in the terrain in which they operate.

Representative ground EW capabilities include the vehicle-mounted Counter Remote Controlled IEDs Duke system and the Thor III dismounted CREW system.

Modern-day military operations also rely on satellite-based EW capabilities, including for broad area surveillance and early-warning, communications, command and control.

Each service has incorporated EW capabilities into platforms and combat systems and is currently working to modernize its existing capabilities.

The Secretary of the Air Force and the Air Force Chief of Staff stated during their 2018 posture hearing the need to maintain EW capabilities to support the Air Force’s future development.

The FY2019 National Defense Authorization Act mandated the creation of an Electromagnetic Spectrum Operations Cross Functional Team to develop an electronic warfare strategy, including assessments of vulnerabilities and capability gaps, leading to an acquisition plan.

US Can Use Electronic Warfare To Aid Ukraine Against Russia

The United States and its allies are belatedly ramping up their weapons aid to Ukraine as invading Russian forces bog down against surprising resistance and winter mud.

Electronic warfare was one of the US military’s asymmetric advantages in the Cold War and could slow or confuse Russian forces using reversible effects and without causing direct casualties.

US Army MQ-1 Gray Eagle UAVs and Air Force or Marine Corps MQ-9 Reapers could fly from Romania or Poland into Ukrainian airspace to disrupt Russian communications using jammers, such as the Marine Corps Intrepid Tiger electronic attack pods.

The United States and Russia have refrained from cyberattacks on civilian targets, but they could be employed more aggressively against Russian military forces.

US Navy ships exited the Black Sea, and now Russian warships have established maritime superiority along the coast of Ukraine.

In the meantime, US Navy ships should back up Turkey in preventing Russian ships’ passage into the Black Sea and support the navies of NATO allies using US P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft and MQ-4C Triton UAVs operating from Romania or Bulgaria.

More important, if the US military does not show resolve and persistently engage the Russian military at low levels of escalation like these, it may lose credibility as a defender of other US allies or partners.

How Ukrainian Forces Are Defeating Russian Electronic Warfare

Ukrainian forces may be dispersing some of their command structures to limit the impacts of Russian cyber attacks.

Russia’s electronic warfare capabilities have been noted since its 2014 invasion of the Donbas region in eastern Ukraine.

More recent efforts to conduct cyber warfare and electronic warfare against the Ukrainians appear to be less successful, though.

“On the Ukrainian side they are able to mitigate some of the challenges of Russian cyber and jamming because they are conducting command and control in a decentralized way,” retired U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Ben Hodges told The National Interest in an interview.

Electronic warfare can be used to jam electronic signals from radar systems, radio frequencies, or guided weapons to blind or disrupt enemy operations.

A centralized command and control structure would emit a substantial electronic signal and be quite detectable to Russian electronic warfare sensors.

Ukrainians are also likely employing strategies that may be effectively averting Russian electronic warfare efforts to locate what’s called a “Line of bearing,” or electronic signature.

Intelligence, Information Warfare, Cyber Warfare, Electronic Warfare

They have advanced intelligence, information warfare, cyber warfare and electronic warfare capabilities.

Automation in intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance – key functions of intelligence in warfare – has become a common practice for modern militaries.

Intelligence services collect vast amounts of data from open-source intelligence – information collected from news, social media and other publicly available sources – as well as secret sources, and use artificial intelligence to analyze the information.

It’s impossible to know what information Russia has collected, but its access to OSINT, spy satellites, operatives in Ukraine, powerful computers and experienced analysts makes it likely that Russia has extensive intelligence about Ukraine’s military and political situation.

These attacks were part of a multi-year campaign of cyber warfare against Ukraine, which included attacks on portions of the country’s power grid.

Electronic warfare describes efforts to disrupt or misdirect the enemy’s electronic systems like radar and communications networks.

Because of Russia’s advanced electronic warfare capabilities, its force may be able to take down the internet and cell towers using a range of techniques.

The Absent Russian Electronic Warfare

As we understood before the Russian Ukrainian War, the Russian doctrine favors rapid employment of nonlethal effects, such as electronic warfare, to paralyze and disrupt the enemy in the early hours of conflict.

There was an expectation that a full-size Russian invasion of Ukraine would be a massive utilization of electronic warfare from the start.

In the afternoon on the first day of the Russian invasion, the 24th of February, it became apparent that the Russians faced significant command and coordination issues, as there was no effective electronic warfare against Ukrainian communications.

The rationale for the absence of Russian electronic warfare can have different origins; the Russians could have assumed marginal Ukrainian resistance and not deployed their EW capabilities.

In my view, that indicates that the Russians have failed to synchronize the EW, spectrum management, and the activities between different military formations to ensure functional, friendly communications; meanwhile, the Ukrainians are under Russian EW attack.

The Russian Ukrainian War, the Russians have learned from their failures and any potential adversary that studied the Russian Ukrainian War.

Any potential adversary will adapt to the Russian Ukrainian War experience and focus on operational integration, but there is a risk for US status quo bias and unwillingness to invest in EW “Because apparently, EW doesn’t work.”

Uninterruptible Power Supply

An uninterruptible power supply or uninterruptible power source is an electrical apparatus that provides emergency power to a load when the input power source or mains power fails.

A UPS differs from an auxiliary or emergency power system or standby generator in that it will provide near-instantaneous protection from input power interruptions, by supplying energy stored in batteries, supercapacitors, or flywheels.

The primary role of any UPS is to provide short-term power when the input power source fails.

Many computer servers offer the option of redundant power supplies, so that in the event of one power supply failing, one or more other power supplies are able to power the load. This is a critical point – each power supply must be able to power the entire server by itself.

Redundant protection can be extended further yet by connecting each power supply to its own UPS. This provides double protection from both a power supply failure and a UPS failure, so that continued operation is assured.

If the budget does not allow for two identical UPS units then it is common practice to plug one power supply into mains power and the other into the UPS. [edit].

What Is An Uninterruptible Power Supply?

An uninterruptible power supply is a device that allows a computer to keep running for at least a short time when the primary power source is lost.

A bypass circuit routes power around the rectifier and inverter, running the IT load on incoming utility or generator power.

Since the inverter isn’t working until power fails, there is no voltage control or power consumed, enabling efficiencies as high as 99%. Power failure or voltage outside of range opens the bypass switch, disengaging input from the output; the inverter starts operating from the batteries.

UPS systems don’t provide power as long because batteries power them.

Surge protectors do not operate during power outages, or instances were the main power supply is cut from use.

Power inverters are devices that convert DC to AC. Power inverters are typically connected to an exterior DC source and continuously convert the current to AC. Power inverters commonly use one or more batteries to store power.

Using power inverters, there is a delay in the transfer of power from a primary power source to a secondary power source when the main power is cut.

Best Uninterruptible Power Supply Of 2022

The best UPS devices on this page are important purchases for any business – or home user – who needs electronic devices such as PCs and servers that have constant power connections 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

That’s where the best UPS come in, as if there’s a power cut, they will seamlessly switch to battery power, and your devices will remain on and running until the main power is restored, or you can safely shut down the device.

You may find that you’re plugging in a lot more power-hungry devices into your home power supply, and this could lead to power cuts or power surges.

Your home likely won’t have the power backup solutions that your office does, so buying a UPS for your home could be a very wise investment.

We wouldn’t recommend it for large businesses with lots of mission-critical computers and servers, but it offers plenty of power for homes and small businesses to keep their devices going when the power fails.

Not only does this rack-mounted UPS keep your important devices running when there’s an issue with your power, but it also provides some excellent power efficiency features that can cut energy usage with up to 95% efficiency in online double conversion mode and 98% in high-efficiency mode.

With careful management, you can keep the power flowing to a router or monitor for enough time to overcome most power cuts.

A UPS is a backup battery that keeps the equipment plugged into it running in the event of a power outage.

It’s not just a glorified power bank, because the UPS detects interruptions in the power and automatically switches the connected devices to running off the UPS battery, so they don’t shut down.

Consumer-grade UPS backup devices are typically classified as “Standby UPS power.” This means the UPS plugs into an electrical outlet, using power to keep its backup battery constantly charged.

Circuitry detects problems with the power, immediately switching the power source for connected equipment from the wall outlet to battery backup power.

The length of time connected devices can run on the UPS during an extended electrical outage depends on the UPS battery capacity and the power draw of the devices.

A standby UPS computer backup system uses a little power to keep its battery charged, otherwise there is really no additional power draw compared to plugging your PC directly into a wall outlet.

If you are concerned about power usage by an uninterrupted power supply, look for models that are Energy Star rated.

EBITDA Definition

A company may be able to sell a product for a profit, but what did it use to acquire the inventory needed to fill its sales channels? In the case of a software company, EBITDA does not recognize the expense of developing the current software versions or upcoming products.

Varying Starting Points While subtracting interest payments, tax charges, depreciation, and amortization from earnings may seem simple enough, different companies use different earnings figures as the starting point for EBITDA. In other words, EBITDA is susceptible to the earnings accounting games found on the income statement.

Obscures Company Valuation Worst of all, EBITDA can make a company look less expensive than it really is.

Net Income $20,000,000 Depreciation Amortization +$10,000,000 Interest Expense +$5,000,000 Taxes +$5,000,000 EBITDA $40,000,000 Many investors use EBITDA to make comparisons between companies with different capital structures or tax jurisdictions.

Company A has a current EBITDA of $20,000,000 and Company B has EBITDA of $17,500,000.

Based on the amount of depreciation and amortization, Company B is generating less EBITDA with more assets than Company A. This could indicate an inefficient management team and a problem for Company B’s valuation.

EBITDA is a measure of a company’s financial performance and profitability, so relatively high EBITDA is clearly better than lower EBITDA. Companies of different sizes in different sectors and industries vary widely in their financial performance.

Formula, Definition And Explanation

EBITDA stands for Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization and is a metric used to evaluate a company’s operating performance.

Is excluded from EBITDA, as it depends on the financing structure of a company.

The EBITDA multiple is a financial ratio that compares a company’s Enterprise Value to its annual EBITDA. This multiple is used to determine the value of a company and compare it to the value of other, similar businesses.

A company’s EBITDA multiple provides a normalized ratio for differences in capital structure, obtained from Equity Research Report.

Investors can turn to EBITDA to evaluate a company.

A fast-growing manufacturing company may present increasing sales and EBITDA year over yearYoY stands for Year over Year and is a type of financial analysis used for comparing time series data.

EBIT vs EBITDAEBIT vs EBITDA – two very common metrics used in finance and company valuation.

What Is Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, And Amortization?

Finance teams calculate EBITDA by taking earnings and subtracting amounts paid for interest on loans, payments to all jurisdictions in which a company owes taxes and the depreciation and amortization deductions associated with capital assets.

Key Takeaways EBITDA removes the potentially distorting effects of taxes, interest and depreciation and amortization.

EBITDA can give a misleading impression of a company’s resilience because interest and taxes are real business costs, and depreciated assets must eventually be replaced.

There are two common ways of calculating EBITDA. The first method starts with net income and adds back interest on borrowings, such as bank loans and bonds issued, as well as taxes paid and the noncash value of depreciation and amortization.

EBITDA = Net Income + Interest + Taxes +. All of these items can be found in a public company’s financial statements.

The higher interest costs could also mean that the company has a poorer credit rating and is therefore paying higher interest rates than company B. On the other hand, company B’s lower EBITDA, coupled with lower interest expenses, depreciation and amortization, might suggest that it is suffering from under-investment.

EBITDA = Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization.

Earnings Before Interest, Tax, Depreciation, And Amortization

Enter a company’s net income, interest expenses in the period, tax expenses, depreciation expenses, and amortization expenses to compute its EBITDA.EBITDA Calculator.

EBITDA, or Earnings Before Interest, Tax, Depreciation, and Amortization, is an alternative measure of earnings that extends EBIT to add back amortization and depreciation charges.

As depreciation and amortization are non-cash writedowns of, respectively, tangible and intangible assets, EBITDA removes them to get closer to cash flows.

EBITDA is extremely popular as an alternative earnings metric and cash flow proxy, and it’s also used like EV/EBIT in its own enterprise value ratio EV/EBITDA. Additionally, interest and tax expenses are “Real” outflows so many analyses should really start first on the cash flow statement.

Interest Expense: Amount the company paid in the period to service its debt.

Amortization: Amount the company took in amortization charges in the period.

Depreciation: Amount the company took in depreciation charges in the period.

Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, And Amortization Formula

EBITA or Earnings Before Interest Taxes and Amortization is a efficiency measurement that calculates a company’s operational profitability by including equipment costs and excluding financing costs.

Depending on the type of company, an analyst will typically use one of these ratios, or potentially all three, to help better understand the earnings of the company.

EBITA is important to measuring the core profitability of a business where measures like gross revenue and net income can often be misleading based on variables such as the corporate tax rate a company is in, one time expenses that may be applied during a corporate buy out, or even certain accounting tactics that are designed to give companies large tax breaks during their most profitable years.

The EBITA formula is calculated by subtracting the cost of goods sold and operating expenses less amortization expense from gross revenues.

You can also use the indirect method to calculate the EBITA equation by adding the interest expense, taxes, and amortization back to net income.

As we can see, her earnings before interest, taxes, and amortization increased drastically from 2015 to 2016 even though her net income decreased.

Maria’s EBITA doesn’t include the biggest expense on her income statement: interest expense.

Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation And Amortization

This type of analysis is useful to get a view of the profitability of the operating business alone, as the cost items ignored in the EBITDA computation are largely independent from the operating business: The interest payments depend on the financing structure of the company, the tax payments on the relevant jurisdictions as well as the interest payments, the depreciation on the asset base and depreciation policy chosen and the amortisation on takeover history with its effect on goodwill among others.

In its attempt to display EBITDA as a measure of the underlying profitability of the operating business, EBITDA is often adjusted for extraordinary expenses, i.e. expenses that the company believes do not occur on a regular basis.

The resulting metric is called adjusted EBITDA or EBITDA before exceptionals.

Taxes, and amortization is derived from EBITDA by subtracting Depreciation.

EBITDAR is derived from EBITDA by adding rent costs to EBITDA. It can be of use when comparing two companies in the same industry with different structure of their assets.

The first business has rent expenses which are included in EBITDA whereas the second company has capital expenditures instead which are not included in EBITDA. Comparing these business on EBITDA level thus is not the right metric and EBITDAR addresses this problem.

OIBDA differs from EBITDA because its starting point is operating income, not earnings.

Post Idea #21: Accounts receivable

Accounts Receivable Definition

Accounts receivable refers to the outstanding invoices a company has or the money clients owe the company.

Companies record accounts receivable as assets on their balance sheets since there is a legal obligation for the customer to pay the debt.

Accounts receivable are current assets, meaning the account balance is due from the debtor in one year or less.

Accounts payable are the opposite of accounts receivable.

Company A is waiting to receive the money, so it records the bill in its accounts receivable column.

Fundamental analysts often evaluate accounts receivable in the context of turnover, also known as accounts receivable turnover ratio, which measures the number of times a company has collected on its accounts receivable balance during an accounting period.

Accounts receivable are found on a firm’s balance sheet, and since they represent funds owed to the company they are booked as an asset.

Businesses keep track of all the money their customers owe them using an account in their books called accounts receivable.

Your general ledger will show your total accounts receivable balance, but to dig into outstanding payments by individual customers, you’ll usually need to refer to the accounts receivable subsidiary ledger.

What’s the difference between accounts receivable and accounts payable?

Accounts receivable are an asset account, representing money that your customers owe you.

Accounts receivable is an asset account, not a revenue account.

Account Debit Credit Accounts Receivable-Keith’s Furniture Inc. $500 – Revenue – $500. But remember: under cash basis accounting, there are no accounts receivable.

Account Debit Credit Allowance for uncollectible accounts $500 – Accounts Receivable-Keith’s Furniture Inc. – $500 What if they end up paying me after all?

What Are Accounts Receivable?

Create a formal, written policy for collections, and enforce the policy.

You may email every customer when an invoice is later than 30 days, and call each client when an invoice is over 60 days old.

Some firms charge late fees after a specific due date, and include the terms of the fee on each invoice.

If you’re diligent in the collection process, you can avoid hiring a collection agency or an attorney to pursue collections on your behalf.

Using automation will reduce the risk of errors, and recurring invoices can be processed in far less time.

Emailing invoices, and providing an online payment option, encourages customers to pay immediately, which speeds up the cash collections.

Best of all, invoice automation makes the buying process easier, and improves the customer’s experience with your company.

Examples & Definition

The money owed to the company is called ‘accounts receivable’ and is tracked as an account in the general ledger, and then reported as a line on the balance sheet.

Once the office supply company receives the order and sends the invoice, it decreases its inventory account by $1,000 and increases its accounts receivable by $1,000.

The accounts receivable turnover ratio is used to assess how well a company collects payment from its customers.

Collecting accounts receivable on time is important because companies need cash to pay for their own operations.

A high accounts receivable balance can lead to cash flow shortages for a company until it is able to collect on its debt.

Average accounts receivable = starting balance of A/R + ending balance of A/R for the period divided by 2.Example of Accounts Receivable Turnover Ratio.

Cash basis accounting does not recognize accounts receivable or payable.

Examples, Process & Importance

Accounts receivables are also known as debtor, trade debtors, bills receivable or trade receivables.

From 1st June to the date the bill is paid, 75,000 will be treated as accounts receivables against National Traders account.

How to record accounts receivables in the books of account?

The following are journal entry to account and adjust the accounts receivables in the books of account.

As on the date of creating financial statements, the total accounts receivables are shown under the current asset section of the balance sheet as bills receivables, sundry debtors, trade receivables etc.

While the process of accounts receivables differs from business to business, we have listed common things that you will get to see in accounts’ receivables process followed by most businesses.

Another reason, accounts receivables are one of the key sources of cash inflow and given the volume of credit sales, a large amount of money gets tied up in accounts receivables.

A Beginner’S Guide To Accounts Receivable

If you’re a new business owner, or have recently switched accounting methods from cash to accrual accounting, you may not be familiar with accounts receivable.

Accounts receivable is a permanent account and is not affected by closing entries.

It’s important for business owners to manage their accounts receivable properly, from initial credit application to collection of the accounts receivable balance.

Accounts receivable vs. accounts payable: What’s the difference?

One easy way to remember the difference is that your accounts receivable balance is likely recorded on your customer’s books as an accounts payable item.

If you’re using accounting software, you can run a weekly accounts receivable report to see which accounts are past due and which will soon be due.

The best way to handle accounts receivable is by using accounting software.

How To Calculate Accounts Receivable And Related Formulas

In this article, we share what accounts receivable is, the formula for calculating the average and turnover ratio, examples of calculations, how to record accounts receivable on a balance sheet and the difference between accounts receivable and accounts payable.

How to calculate average accounts receivable and the turnover ratio It’s common for business owners or accountants to calculate accounts receivable each month or each quarter so they know how much money is outstanding based on payments that customers still owe to the business.

You can also calculate average accounts receivable by adding up the beginning and ending amount of your accounts receivable over a period of time and dividing by two.

Divide net credit sales by average accounts receivable This is how you calculate your accounts receivable turnover ratio.

What is the formula for calculating accounts receivable turnover ratio? The accounts receivable turnover ratio is useful for companies because it gives the business owner an idea of how well the company is managing its revenue and assets.

How to record accounts receivable on a balance sheet Even though accounts receivable represents money that is owed to a business, these amounts go on a balance sheet as assets because the payment is incoming from the customer at some point.

Difference between accounts receivable and accounts payable While accounts receivable is the money that a customer or client owes to a business that has provided them with products or services, accounts payable is what a business owes to other businesses, like their vendors.

The health and safety of our employees and candidates is very important to us.

We are closely monitoring COVID-19 and have adjusted our recruiting procedures as needed.

This will allow us to meet new candidates and continue focus on bringing in top talent.

Peabody Energy

The company emerged from bankruptcy on April 3, 2017, and started trading on NYSE with a ticker symbol BTU. It also changed the company logo from Peabody Energy to just Peabody.

The Peabody Energy company was founded as Peabody, Daniels & Company in 1883 by Francis Peabody, the son of a prominent Chicago lawyer, and a partner.

In the late 1880s, Francis Peabody bought out his partner’s share of the business and the company was incorporated in the state of Illinois under the name Peabody Coal Company in 1890.

The newly created Peabody Holding Company purchased the Peabody Coal business of Kennecott for $1.1 billion, and a consortium of companies controlled Peabody-Holding.

In 1964 Peabody Energy subsidiary Peabody Western Coal signed a series of lease agreements with the Navajo tribe and two years later with the Hopi tribe for mineral rights as well as the use of a water source on the Black Mesa, a 2.1-million-acre highland in Northeast Arizona.

In 2014 Peabody Energy Corp. launched a pro-coal advertising and public relations campaign named Advanced Energy for Life, with the stated aim of “Educating and mobilising world leaders, multinational organisations, a wide range of institutions and stakeholders and the general public to end the crisis of global energy poverty”.

Nick Surgey, director of research for the Center for Media and Democracy, commented on the sheer scale of Peabody’s funding activities: “We expected to see some denial money, but it looks like Peabody is the treasury for a very substantial part of the climate denial movement.” Peabody plans to continue to oppose the Clean Power Plan during its bankruptcy.

Peabody Energy Shares Drop On Derivative Margin Payments

MARKET PULSE. Peabody Energy Corp. shares fell 7.7% Monday after the company said it posted $534 million since Dec. 31 to satisfy margin requirements.

The company also announced a $150 million unsecured multiple draw credit facility with Goldman Sachs Group Inc. The financing will support Peabody Energy’s potential near-term liquidity requirements in case of of additional increases in underlying coal prices.

Peabody Energy said high demand and tight supply for coal has been amplified by the Russian-Ukrainian conflict resulting in “Unprecedented upward volatility” in pricing of Newcastle coal, the price benchmark for seaborne thermal coal in the Asia-Pacific region.

Other than 1.9 million metric tons at its Wambo Underground Mine in Australia priced at $84 per metric ton, export sales from Peabody’s seaborne thermal segment are largely unpriced and will benefit if the current pricing environment persists, Peabody said.

Peabody Energy Shares Drop 8% After New Financing Agreement

Peabody Energy Corp. shares were down 8% to $24.31 Monday after the company said it has entered into a financing arrangement with Goldman Sachs providing for a $150 million unsecured multiple draw credit facility.

The coal-producing company said the new arrangement will support its potential near-term liquidity requirements related to its economic coal hedge positions.

The majority of these contracts were entered into in the first half of 2021 and relate to 1.9 million metric tons of production at the Wambo underground mine in the company’s seaborne thermal segment.

The company said the hedge contracts were put in place to support the profitability of the mine, securing anticipated average prices of $84 a metric ton through mid-2023.

High demand and tight supply for coal globally has resulted in a substantial rise in seaborne thermal coal prices, which has been amplified by the Russian-Ukrainian conflict resulting in unprecedented upward volatility in Newcastle coal pricing since late February, Peabody said.

The new credit facility, along with available cash, will support the company’s near-term liquidity requirements in the event of additional increases in the underlying market coal price.

Any net cash proceeds received by the company from the issuance and sale of any equity securities under its “At-the-market” equity issuance program are required to be applied to pay down any outstanding borrowings under the new credit facility.

Peabody’S Foray Into Renewables Sparks Surprise But Also Makes Sense, Coal Experts Say

ST. LOUIS – Coal giant Peabody surprised the industry last week with its announcement that it was getting into renewable energy.

In its launch on Tuesday of the renewable energy development company R3 Renewables, it touted its financial backing and “Extensive” land holdings, and said it would start with the development of six sites on or near old coal mines in Indiana and Illinois.

“This is what’s happening on the power grid. Coal is getting replaced by renewables for economic reasons.”

Old coal mines offer the land and available space that’s critical for renewable energy projects.

Peabody is not the only major coal company to recently reshuffle its hand and take its business in a new direction, after years of significant economic struggles for the fossil fuel.

Its closest peer, Arch Coal, changed its name to Arch Resources in 2020 as it launched a self-described pivot away from thermal coal used for electricity generation.

The Creve Coeur-based coal heavyweight opted to focus, instead, on the smaller but more promising market for coal used in steelmaking.

Discussion: All patients with diabetes should have an annual foot review by a general practitioner or podiatrist.

A three-monthly foot review is recommended for any patient with a history of a diabetic foot infection.

Assessment involves identification of risk factors including peripheral neuropathy and peripheral vascular disease, and examination of ulceration if present.

It is essential to identify patients with diabetes who are ‘at risk’ of ulceration, assess for any early signs of skin breakdown, initiate appropriate management to prevent progression and refer the patient if indicated.

Symptoms And Causes

Bedsores most often develop on skin that covers bony areas of the body, such as the heels, ankles, hips and tailbone.

The degree of skin and tissue damage ranges from red, unbroken skin to a deep injury involving muscle and bone.

Bedsores are caused by pressure against the skin that limits blood flow to the skin.

Limited movement can make skin vulnerable to damage and lead to development of bedsores.

Without these essential nutrients, skin and nearby tissues are damaged and might eventually die.

You can help prevent bedsores by frequently repositioning yourself to avoid stress on the skin.

Look closely at your skin daily for warning signs of a pressure sore.

Pressure Ulcers: Causes, Symptoms, Stages And Treatment

Also known as Bedsore , Pressure Sore , or Decubitus Ulcer , a Pressure Ulcer is an area of damaged skin & underlying tissue caused by prolonged pressure on the skin that cuts-off blood flow to the parts of the body and results in injuries to the skin and tissues.

A Pressure Ulcer is an open wound on the skin that often occurs on the skin covering bony areas but the most common places for a Pressure Ulcer are: hips, back, ankles, and buttocks.

Prolonged pressure at a particular area of the body is the main cause of a pressure ulcer including other factors such as moisture, poor circulation, and nutrition contributing.

Pressure – If there is any constant pressure on any side of the body, it can lessen the blood flow to tissues.

The treatment for the pressure ulcer depends on the stage and condition of your ulcer.

Though it can be a daunting task to completely prevent pressure ulcers, there are some preventive steps patients can consider to reduce the risks of pressure ulcers.

Check the skin daily for any signs or symptoms of pressure ulcers.

Pressure Ulcer

Pressure ulcers, also known as pressure sores or bed sores, are localised damage to the skin and/or underlying tissue that usually occur over a bony prominence as a result of usually long-term pressure, or pressure in combination with shear or friction.

It is widely believed that other factors can influence the tolerance of skin for pressure and shear, thereby increasing the risk of pressure ulcer development.

The other process of pressure ulcer development is seen when pressure is high enough to damage the cell membrane of muscle cells.

The definitions of the pressure ulcer stages are revised periodically by the National Pressure Injury Advisory Panel in the United States and the European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel in Europe.

The most important care for a person at risk for pressure ulcers and those with bedsores is the redistribution of pressure so that no pressure is applied to the pressure ulcer.

Methods to standardize the products and evaluate the efficacy of these products have only been developed in recent years through the work of the S3I within NPUAP. For individuals with paralysis, pressure shifting on a regular basis and using a wheelchair cushion featuring pressure relief components can help prevent pressure wounds.

Using the European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel methodology there are similar figures for pressure ulcers in acutely sick people in the hospital.

Stages Of Pressure Ulcers: Stages, Treatments, And More

Pressure ulcers are also known as bedsores and decubitus ulcers.

Pressure ulcers can progress in four stages based on the level of tissue damage.

If treated early, developing stage 1 pressure ulcers can heal in about 3 days.

Similar to treating stage 1 pressure ulcers, you should treat stage 2 sores by removing pressure from the wound.

In addition to the four main stages of pressure ulcer formation, there are two other categories: unstageable pressure ulcers and suspected deep tissue injury.

Reducing pressure on areas that may be susceptible to pressure ulcers by using:a special air or gel mattress.

Pressure ulcers are wounds that develop once a pressure injury causes blood circulation to be cut off from particular areas of the body.

Wound And Pressure Ulcer Management

Wound management involves a comprehensive care plan with consideration of all factors contributing to and affecting the wound and the patient.

Stage II – Partial thickness loss of dermis presenting as a shallow open ulcer with a red/pink wound bed, without slough.

Unstageable – Full thickness tissue loss in which the base of the ulcer is covered by slough and/or eschar in the wound bed.

Recently closed wound, Stage I pressure ulcer, denuded or excoriated skin – Encourage adequate perfusion and protect from further tissue damage.

Product CategoriesThere are a great deal of products focused on wound management.

Below is a breakdown of products by their role in wound and ulcer care.

Automotive Fuse

What are automotive fuses? Automotive fuse types are designed to work in a direct current environment typically found in vehicles having a battery.

Fuses are rated from 32 to 80 volts with ampere ratings from 0.5 to 500 amps.

These types of fuses are used extensively in cars, trucks, buses and off-road transportation equipment to protect the cables, wires and electrical components that supply electrical power to operate lights, heaters, air conditioning, radios, power windows and other electrical accessories.

They are also used in electric and hybrid vehicles and a variety of electronic applications.

Typical automotive fuses include automotive blade fuses such as the automotive ATO fuse, the automotive Mini fuses, the automotive MAXI fuses and the automotive MEGA fuses.

Additional automotive fuses include the automotive inline fuse, the automotive battery fuse, the electrical vehicle fuse and the automotive micro fuses.

Automotive fuses are a class of fuses used to protect the wiring and electrical equipment for vehicles.

Automotive fuses are typically housed inside one or more fuse boxes, which controls the drawing of electric current in a vehicle while it is shut off; removing this fuse while the vehicle is shut off for more than a few weeks will prevent excessive depletion of the battery.

Fuse blocks offer a method of mounting several fuses together or large fuses separately.

Blade fuses use a common coloring scheme for the Micro2, Micro3, low-profile Mini, Mini, and regular size fuses, and a partial color similarity with the maxi size fuses.

The Lucas 1/4″ diameter glass tube fuse is 1 and 5/32″ long, while the US standard 1/4″ glass tube fuse is 1 and 1/4″ long.

These are known as “SFE” fuses, as they were designed by the Society of Fuse Engineers to prevent the insertion of a grossly inadequate or unsafe fuse into the vehicle’s fuse panel.

As the fuse element melts, it creates a high resistance to reduce the magnitude and duration of the current flowing through the fuse to protect the electrical circuit and connected equipment.

Know-How Notes: Guide To Automotive Fuses » NAPA Know How Blog

If you are not a regular in the automotive fuses section at your local NAPA store, you are probably scratching your head at the alphabet soup in that last sentence.

“SFE – These are the original glass fuses for automotive use. SFE stands for Society of Fuse Engineers, and have different lengths so that the wrong fuse cannot be installed into the wrong placement. They are ¼” in diameter, from 5/8″ up to 1 716″ long.

MDL – This style is similar to the AGC fuse in size and rating, however AGC fuses are “Fast blow”, meaning they pop instantly, whereas MDL fuses are time-delay fuses that burn slowly.

Maxi/APX – These much larger fuses can hold more amps than standard or mini fuses.

These slow blow fuses measure 10mmx 41mm. ANL – These fuses measure 20 x 82 mm and cover a range from 20 to 500 amp.

Class T fuses are fast blow, and have the fastest blow speed of all high current fuses.

These are beneficial for aftermarket circuits where blown fuses are common, as high-current fuses are not cheap.

In the early 1990s Ball exited the home-canning business, when it established a subsidiary named Alltrista, which consisted of seven smaller Ball subsidiaries that included the Ball jar and other canning-related products.

The 8 Best Gas Leak Detectors Of 2022

For home use, most people opt for a device that monitors for either natural gas or carbon monoxide.

If you want to cover all your bases, some detectors provide more comprehensive protection, monitoring for all of the most common combustible gases.

“Examples of common toxic gases that can be present in a home are Radon and Carbon Monoxide. A common combustible gas would be natural gas, which is primarily methane.”

Style There are several styles of gas leak detectors, ranging from handheld units to plug-in alarms and even simple liquid sprays.

If you want to monitor for gas leaks 24/7, you’re probably better off with an alarm-style unit that’s similar to a smoke detector.

Sensitivity You should also consider the sensitivity of your gas leak detector, measured in ppm or parts per million.

Electrochemical gas detectors are used in a wide variety of environments such as refineries, gas turbines, chemical plants, underground gas storage facilities, and more.

Ultrasonic gas leak detectors cannot measure gas concentration, but the device is able to determine the leak rate of an escaping gas because the ultrasonic sound level depends on the gas pressure and size of the leak.

Ultrasonic gas detectors are mainly used for remote sensing in outdoor environments where weather conditions can easily dissipate escaping gas before allowing it to reach leak detectors that require contact with the gas to detect it and sound an alarm.

Almost every portable gas detector requires a specific calibration gas In the US, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration may set minimum standards for periodic recalibration.

Australian standards specify that a person operating any gas detector is strongly advised to check the gas detector’s performance each day and that it is maintained and used in accordance with the manufacturers instructions and warnings.

A challenge test should consist of exposing the gas detector to a known concentration of gas to ensure that the gas detector will respond and that the audible and visual alarms activate.

Handheld flammable gas detectors can be used to trace leaks from natural gas lines, propane tanks, butane tanks, or any other combustible gas.

There is usually no obligation for stock to be issued through the stock exchange itself, nor must stock be subsequently traded on an exchange.

New York Stock Exchange: the New York Stock Exchange requires a company to have issued at least 1.1 million shares of stock worth $40 million and must have earned more than $10 million over the last three years.

London Stock Exchange: the main market of the London Stock Exchange requires a minimum market capitalization, three years of audited financial statements, minimum public float and sufficient working capital for at least 12 months from the date of listing.

Bombay Stock Exchange: Bombay Stock Exchange requires a minimum market capitalization of ₹250 million.

The Shenzhen Stock Exchange and Shanghai Stock Exchange can be characterized as quasi-state institutions insofar as they were created by government bodies in China and their leading personnel are directly appointed by the China Securities Regulatory Commission.

Overview, Purpose, And Examples

Bonds are typically traded Over-the-CounterOver-the-counter is the trading of securities between two counter-parties executed outside of formal exchanges and without the supervision of an exchange regulator.

Founded in 1792, the New York Stock Exchange is by far the largest exchange in the world.

Founded in November 1990, the Shanghai Stock Exchange is the fourth-largest exchange in the world.

In the United States, the Securities and Exchange CommissionThe US Securities and Exchange Commission, or SEC, is an independent agency of the US federal government that is responsible for implementing federal securities laws and proposing securities rules.

On top of these requirements, in order to be listed on an exchange, a company must also satisfy the requirements of the stock exchange they wish to be listed on.

Below are some examples of listing requirements by the three aforementioned exchanges.

The stock market refers to public markets that exist for issuing, buying and selling stocks that trade on a stock exchange or over-the-counter.

What Is A Stock Exchange?

A stock exchange is just as likely to be a physical space as a virtual one, because these highly regulated institutions are now dominated by electronic trading.

The listed stock exchanges in the United States are the New York Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq.

The NYSE requires companies to maintain a share price of at least $4. The Nasdaq was the first electronic exchange allowing investors to buy and sell stock electronically, without a trading floor.

These OTC-traded shares typically will involve smaller companies, such as penny stocks that do not meet the listing requirements for established stock exchanges.

They signed the now-famous Buttonwood Agreement, which effectively created the New York Stock & Exchange Board.

Almost three-quarters of a century later, in 1863, the NYSEB was officially renamed the New York Stock Exchange.

In San Francisco, for example, the Pacific Stock Exchange had an open-outcry system, where brokers would handle buy and sell orders for local investors who wanted to purchase shares or liquidate their ownership stakes.

Stock Exchanges: What They Are & Why They Exist

Stock exchanges are places where people buy and sell shares of stock.

Stock exchanges bring together the companies and current shareholders who want to sell stock, and the investors who want to buy stock from them.

Stock exchanges help individual investors put money to work in the stock market.

Stock exchanges therefore make trading easier, providing what’s known as liquidity: a greater ability to buy or sell stock.

In addition to these two major markets, some smaller stock exchanges serve the U.S. stock market.

In addition to the NYSE and Nasdaq exchanges in the U.S., there’s a network of stock exchanges across the globe.

What Is Fetal Bovine Serum

Fetal bovine serum is the liquid fraction remaining after the blood drawn from bovine fetus coagulates.

Wondering what fetal bovine serum does and how it’s used in research? While other animal sera are available and utilized, fetal bovine serum remains the most universally employed.

Fetal bovine serum contains a sparse amount of gamma globulin, higher levels of growth factors, and fewer complement proteins than both calf and adult bovine serum.

This makes FBS ideal for propagating cell growth while also decreasing the possibility of mammalian cells binding or lysing in the culture, rationalizing the preference of fetal bovine over newborn, donor, or adult bovine serum.

Although fetal bovine serum collection has wide application, it is most frequently sought after for in vitro cell culture of eukaryotic cells.

Remain informed about fetal bovine serum and rely on Thermo Fisher Scientific for a trustworthy source of FBS. Explore our comprehensive portfolio of sera products.

Fetal bovine serum is manufactured from fetal bovine blood collected in USDAinspected abattoirs located in the United States.

Fetal Bovine Serum

Fetal bovine serum is derived from the blood drawn from a bovine fetus via a closed system of collection at the slaughterhouse.

Fetal bovine serum is the most widely used serum-supplement for the in vitro cell culture of eukaryotic cells.

The globular protein, bovine serum albumin, is a major component of fetal bovine serum.

The rich variety of proteins in fetal bovine serum maintains cultured cells in a medium in which they can survive, grow, and divide.

There has been discussion concerning the methodologies for the collection of fetal bovine serum.

Fetal bovine serum is commercially available from many manufacturers, and because cells grown in vitro are highly sensitive, customers usually test specific batches to check for suitability for their specific cell type.

The precipitate may be removed by transferring the serum to sterile tubes and centrifuging for 5 minutes at 400 g. To limit the amount of precipitation, it is recommended that the serum is thawed in a refrigerator at 2-8˚C. The serum should be regularly stirred during this process.

Palomar Technologies Offers Free Webinar

Palomar Technologies has announced they are offering a webinar discussing the differences between ball bonding and wedge bonding.

In today’s world of semiconductor packaging, over 85% of packages have some form of wire or wedge bond, be it ball bonding, wedge bonding, flip-chip or chip attach.

Of those, ball bonding is substantially more frequently used than any other package interconnect method.

Why would a process engineer choose a wedge bonder over a ball bonder or vice versa as they are so closely related?

This has been the question of most process engineers because, generally speaking, the electrical characteristics of the semiconductor package are affected by the method of wire bonding.

Knowing which bonding method to choose is important to a successful package.

This free webinar, “The Great Debate: Ball Bonding vs Wedge Bonding” will cover the applications for ball bonding and wedge bonding and what requirements need to be met for a successful bond.
