Sundar Pichai, in full Pichai Sundararajan,, Indian-born American executive who was CEO of both Google, Inc., and its holding company, Alphabet Inc.As a boy growing up in Madras, Pichai slept with his brother in the living room of the cramped family home, but his father, an electrical engineer at the British multinational GEC, saw that the boys received a good education.
Following a short stint at the management consulting firm McKinsey & Co., Pichai joined Google in 2004 as the head of product management and development.
He initially worked on the Google Toolbar, which enabled those using the Microsoft Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox Web browsers to easily access the Google search engine.
Over the next few years, he was directly involved in the development of Google’s own browser, Chrome, which was released to the public in 2008.
By 2012 he was a senior vice president, and two years later he was made product chief over both Google and the Android smartphone operating system.
In 2011 Pichai reportedly was aggressively pursued for employment by microblogging service Twitter, and in 2014 he was touted as a possible CEO for Microsoft, but in both instances he was granted large financial packages to remain with Google.
When Google cofounders Larry Page and Sergey Brin announced the creation of Alphabet Inc., in August 2015, it came as no surprise to industry insiders that Pichai was named CEO of Google, which was reorganized as a subsidiary.

Post Idea #4: Hydrogen-powered aircraft
Related Articles – Summarized
Hydrogen-Powered Aircraft
According to research at the Pennsylvania State University in 2006, large commercial hydrogen aircraft could be built by 2020 but “Will probably not enter service until closer to 2040.” In the nearer term, interest has grown in using fuel cell aircraft as personal air vehicles.
Cryogenic liquid hydrogen has a 4.1 times lower energy density, but needs to be cooled at 20 K and kept in insulated but low-pressure tanks; while gaseous hydrogen has a lower energy density, needs high pressure tanks reaching up to 700 bar, often in carbon fiber, but can be kept at usual temperatures.
If hydrogen is available in quantity from low-carbon power such as wind or nuclear, its use in aircraft will produce fewer greenhouse gases than current aircraft.
Currently very little hydrogen is produced using low-carbon energy sources, and there are several serious obstacles to the use of hydrogen in aircraft and other vehicles.
Liquid hydrogen is 4.1 times less dense for the same amount of energy of kerosene based jet-fuel; and storing the liquid hydrogen needs a pressurised tank with a minimal surface for minimal thermal insulation weight, leading towards cylindrical tanks in the fuselage rather than wet wings in conventional aircraft.
As hydrogen specific energy is 2.8 times higher than jet-fuel, an hydrogen aircraft would need 2.8 times less fuel weight for the same range, ignoring the repercussion of added volume and tank weight.
Hydrogen aircraft using a fuel cell design are zero emission in operation, whereas aircraft using hydrogen as a fuel for a jet engine or an internal combustion engine are zero emission for CO2 but not for NOx: the burning of Hydrogen in air leads to the production of NOx.
Are Hydrogen-Powered Aircraft The Future Of Sustainable Aviation?
The possibility of hydrogen-powered planes flying in Europe’s airspace gained momentum when Airbus’ announced in 2020 that zero-emission commercial aircraft based on hydrogen could enter into service by 2035.
“Creating a hydrogen infrastructure will be critical: no infrastructure means no ZEROe aircraft. We will need efforts from energy providers, airports and the entire aviation industry in order to make it possible to refuel our ZEROe aircraft at airports in the future.”
“We have launched a call for interest to put in place the relevant hydrogen infrastructure and create a sizeable market around Paris airports, which can start with the use of hydrogen for trucks, logistics, ground handling and more.”
Hydrogen planes describe an aircraft which is either equipped with hydrogen-powered fuel cells or with hydrogen-based jet engines, or a hybrid of hydrogen turbines and fuel cells.
In the context of hydrogen planes synthetic fuel – or synfuel – also play an important role: While they belong to the group of sustainable aviation fuels, synfuels are not based on biomass but their main source is electricity.
Hydrogen propulsion powered aircraft emit zero CO2 emissions, and demonstrate a 30-50 % reduction in impacts from contrail and cirrus formation, compared to kerosene aircraft, according to a study released by the Clean Sky 2 and Fuel Cells & Hydrogen 2 Joint Undertakings.
Because of its clear environmental benefits when being used, hydrogen is an important part of the solution to meet the 2050 climate neutrality goal of the European Green Deal, which the European Commission underlined when it adopted its EU Hydrogen Strategy in 2020.
Importantly in the context of flight, hydrogen packs a lot of energy per unit of mass – three times more than conventional jet fuel, and more than a hundred times that of lithium-ion batteries.
All three designs are envisaged as hydrogen hybrids, which means they would be powered by gas-turbine engines that burn liquid hydrogen as fuel, and also generate electricity via hydrogen fuel cells.
The great majority of hydrogen used in industry today is created using fossil fuel methane, releasing carbon dioxide as a waste product.
According to these scenarios, the direct use of hydrogen will play only a marginal role, but the game-changer will be what are termed “Sustainable aviation fuels”, or SAFs.
Through these fuels, which are also known as “Power to liquid”, hydrogen could end up playing a key role in aviation after all.
Using direct air capture technology developed by the Swiss company Climeworks to source CO2, and hydrogen produced from water with renewable energy, the Oslo-based company Norsk e-Fuel aims to open what may be the world’s first E fuel industrial plant Herøya, Norway, in 2023, producing 10 million litres of fuel per year for the Norwegian and European markets.
For now, one thing remains almost certain: hydrogen and E fuels are likely to continue to be substantially more expensive than conventional jet fuel for years or decades to come, limiting their role in greening aviation – unless the other costs of aviation come to be weighed differently.
The Future Of Aviation: The Possibility Of A Liquid Hydrogen Plane
Whether in liquid or gaseous form, hydrogen requires special tanks that either keep it at a particular temperature or keep it pressurized.
Using hydrogen and hydrogen tanks will likely result in aircraft designs needing to change as well.
The other huge plus is the possibility of making hydrogen on-site.
Finally, the question of adoption; while using hydrogen is the future we want, and the sooner, the better, implementing it will be difficult.
As mentioned, new aircraft designs will be needed, new infrastructure built, and hydrogen must be easier and cheaper to acquire compared to regular fuel.
While there are challenges, many airlines and aircraft designers are set on making hydrogen the future.
Either way, hydrogen is the future of aircraft fuel.
A Breakthrough For Electric And Hydrogen-Powered Aircraft
Today, the ASCEND demonstrator project by Airbus UpNext aims to mature these technologies to significantly boost the performance of electric- and hybrid-electric propulsion systems in future low-emission aircraft.
Airbus UpNext is looking to change that with its latest ground-based demonstrator project ASCEND. “With the ASCEND demonstrator, we’ll pave the way for a real breakthrough in electric propulsion for future aircraft,” said Sandra Bour Schaeffer, Airbus UpNext CEO.The twin power of cryogenics and superconductivity One of the major challenges of scaling up electric propulsion to larger aircraft is the power-to-weight ratio.
A ground demonstrator to explore the feasibility and application of “Cold” electrical technologies for low-emission aircraft propulsion.
“With the ASCEND demonstrator, we’ll adapt ground-based cryogenic and superconducting technologies to a fully electric powertrain to confirm their potential at aircraft level,” explains Ludovic Ybanez, head of the ASCEND demonstrator.
This is a key consideration, as increasing the power of current electrical aircraft systems from a few hundredkW to the MW required for a fully electric aircraft is no easy feat.
The ASCEND demonstrator will thus complement this research by providing additional insight into how cryogenic and superconducting technologies can support an ultra-efficient electric- and/or hybrid-electric propulsion system for future aircraft.
“With the ASCEND demonstrator, we’ll pave the way for a real breakthrough in electric propulsion for future aircraft,” said Bour Schaeffer.

Some of the limitations of HPLC include that the analysis can be very time consuming, potentially taking an entire day to complete a single sample despite providing an optimal protein coverage in complex samples.
The liquid was refluxed to boiling and left for 1-2 h. Before being introduced, the sample was deoxidized in pure nitrogen for 10 min.
Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry usually requires extensive sample preparation and is expensive.
The mobile phase used was water containing ammonium formate with formic acid as solvent A and methanol as solvent B. Sample analysis was carried out after two or three transitions per sample.
According to the results, the method can be applied efficiently to identify naringenin in biological samples and pharmaceutical formulations.
High-Performance Liquid Chromatography
HPLC is distinguished from traditional liquid chromatography because operational pressures are significantly higher, while ordinary liquid chromatography typically relies on the force of gravity to pass the mobile phase through the column.
A typical gradient profile in reversed phase chromatography might start at 5% acetonitrile and progress linearly to 95% acetonitrile over 5-25 minutes.
Gas chromatography at the time was more powerful than liquid chromatography it was believed that gas phase separation and analysis of very polar high molecular weight biopolymers was impossible.
Partition chromatography uses a retained solvent, on the surface or within the grains or fibers of an “Inert” solid supporting matrix as with paper chromatography; or takes advantage of some coulombic and/or hydrogen donor interaction with the stationary phase.
Recently, partition chromatography has become popular again with the development of Hilic bonded phases which demonstrate improved reproducibility, and due to a better understanding of the range of usefulness of the technique.
Aqueous normal-phase chromatography is a chromatographic technique which encompasses the mobile phase region between reversed-phase chromatography and organic normal phase chromatography.
The driving force in reversed phase chromatography originates in the high order of the water structure.
High Performance Liquid Chromatography Explained
Column liquid chromatography is the most powerful and has the highest capacity for sample.
In all cases, the sample first must be dissolved in a liquid that is then transported either onto, or into, the chromatographic device.
In solid-phase extraction [SPE], the sample is loaded onto the cartridge and the solvent stream carries the sample through the device.
When moderate to high pressure is used to flow the solvent through the chromatographic column, the technique is called HPLC. What Is High Performance Liquid Chromatography? The acronym HPLC, coined by the late Prof. Csaba Horváth for his 1970 Pittcon paper, originally indicated the fact that high pressure was used to generate the flow required for liquid chromatography in packed columns.
With continued advances in performance during this time , the acronym HPLC remained the same, but the name was changed to high performance liquid chromatography.
High performance liquid chromatography is now one of the most powerful tools in analytical chemistry.
What Is UltraPerformance Liquid Chromatography? In 2004, further advances in instrumentation and column technology were made to achieve very significant increases in resolution, speed, and sensitivity in liquid chromatography.

High Performance Liquid Chromatography Basics
A liquid sample is injected into a stream of solvent flowing through a column packed with a separation medium.
Column Oven – houses the HPLC column and keeps a stable temperature for reproducible separations.
Steps must be taken to periodically flush the column at higher solvent strength to clean it of intractable materials that build up from sample injections.
The decision about the dimensions of the column should be based on the goals for the chromatography.
So-called reversed phase columns have a bonded phase on the surface of the silica particles which is hydrophobic in nature.
Such a column will tend to retain sample constituents which are also hydrophobic, as long as the mobile phase is not stronger in its attraction for that sample constituent.
For a reversed phase column, use a combination of solvents which give an overall “Greater” polarity than the stationary phase.
What Is HPLC/ High Performance Liquid Chromatography?
What Is HPLC? The basic question that needs a simple answer is “What is HPLC?” In simple terms, HPLC is an analytical technique used for the separation of components of an organic mixture of compounds when such compounds are nonvolatile, thermally unstable, and have relatively high molecular weights.
Take a look at the HPLC chromatography PPT given below.
You need to have a good understanding of the parts of your HPLC system and the HPLC principles.
A conceptual understanding of the function of each component will add to your comfort level with your HPLC system, and you will ensure long term usage with high reliance on output data.
Modern HPLC systems are computer-based and software controls operational parameters such as mobile phase composition, temperature, flow rate, injection volume and sequence, and also acquisition and treatment of output.
Specialized HPLC systems might also have solvent selection valves, vacuum degasser, autosamplers, column switches, pre or post-column derivatization, and fraction collectors.
These are all covered at length in our online certificate program on HPLC – Certificate Course on HPLC. Infographic: What Really Goes into Running an HPLC? Anyone who is working in a laboratory is likely to use an HPLC at some time or the other.
Principle, Types, Instrumentation And Applications
The term high-performance liquid chromatography was introduced in the 1970s to distinguish the modern high-performance technique from classical low-pressure column chromatography, developed in the 1930s.
Principle of HPLC. High-performance liquid chromatography involves the injection of a small volume of liquid sample into a tube packed with tiny particles in diameter called the stationary phase) where individual components of the sample are moved down the packed tube with a liquid forced through the column by high pressure delivered through a pump.
There are many advantages of High-performance liquid chromatography over traditional low-pressure column liquid chromatography.
Liquid chromatography is divided into a relatively large collection of techniques like thin layer chromatography.
Pressurized liquid chromatography can be divided into ion exchange, exclusion, partition, and liquid-solid chromatography.
Liquid chromatography is one of the three main branches of chromatography.
There are different types of chromatography, but the two primary types are liquid chromatography and gas chromatography.

Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry
In addition to the liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry devices, an LC-MS system contains an interface that efficiently transfers the separated components from the LC column into the MS ion source.
Overall, the interface is a mechanically simple part of the LC-MS system that transfers the maximum amount of analyte, removes a significant portion of the mobile phase used in LC and preserves the chemical identity of the chromatography products.
The direct liquid introduction interface was developed in 1980.
In these interfaces, the LC effluent passed through the frit or CF-FAB channels to form a uniform liquid film at the tip.
For stable operation, the FAB based interfaces were able to handle liquid flow rates of only 1-15 μl and were also restricted to microbore and capillary columns.
The interface between a liquid phase technique with a continuously flowing eluate, and a gas phase technique carried out in a vacuum was difficult for a long time.
A new approach still under development called direct-EI LC-MS interface, couples a nano HPLC system and an electron ionization equipped mass spectrometer.
Liquid Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry
Interest in the clinical utility of mass spectrometry continues to grow, evidenced by the ever growing number of LC-MS/MS publications and conferences, as well as the recent launch of AACC’s Mass Spectrometry and Separation Sciences Division.
Advantages of LC-MS/MS. Recognizing LC-MS/MS as a strategic technology, many clinical laboratories are now using it in lieu of other methodologies.
FDA’s recently released draft guidance document on regulating LDTs could affect the majority of tests developed and performed on LC-MS/MS. Currently, laboratories develop and validate LC-MS/MS assays according to CLIA, which established quality standards for lab testing and accreditation programs for clinical labs.
Assay-to-assay variations between LC-MS/MS users can arise since LC-MS/MS assays are not standardized or harmonized and commercial calibrators are not available.
Clinical Applications of LC-MS/MS. Initially, mass spectrometry was used primarily in newborn screening and to diagnose organic metabolic disorders in clinical labs.
Table 1 shows a list of some of the tests commonly performed via LC-MS/MS. Therapeutic drug monitoring is another discipline in which LC-MS/MS tests are abundant for the quantitative measurement of medications.
The release of more ready-to-use, FDA-approved reagent kits for LC-MS/MS will also minimize the effort needed for method development and extensive validation, making LC-MS/MS accessible to more labs.
Liquid Chromatography Tandem-Mass Spectrometry-Technique And Applications In Endocrinology
In recent years, liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry has emerged as an innovative analytical technology applicable to a wide number of analyses in the endocrinology laboratory.
Compared to the “Traditional” technique of gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, LC-MS/MS is easier to use and is applicable for a substantially larger number of relevant analytes.
With the development of LC-MS/MS, the widespread application of the proven principle of isotope dilution mass spectrometry is now feasible not only in research but also for routine applications.
The aim of this review is to explain the basic technical principles of LC-MS/MS, to describe the general characteristics of analytical LC-MS/MS applications and to comprehensively discuss the application of this technology in the field of endocrinology.

Wells Fargo’S Appeal Of Fraud Ruling Puts Spotlight On FINRA And SEC
On Feb. 10, U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, a frequent FINRA critic, and U.S. Rep. Katie Porter wrote to FINRA asking for details about the Georgia case, the arbitration process and interactions with Wells Fargo.
Customers Brian Leggett and a partnership sued to reverse their defeat in a FINRA arbitration claim they made against Wells Fargo Advisors over $1.2 million in losses on complex investments carried out by two Wells Fargo brokers.
Wells Fargo and the outside lawyer, the judge’s order said, “Committed fraud on the arbitration panel by procuring perjured testimony, intentionally misrepresenting the record and refusing to turn over a key document.” Securities lawyers said that it’s almost unheard of for a judge to call into question “The fairness of the entire FINRA process,” as the judge’s ruling said.
Silver said that the ruling “Is more serious for FINRA than for Wells Fargo.”
The customers in the Georgia case allege in court filings that two names thought to be critical of the bank were removed from the list at the request of Wells Fargo’s lawyer, Terry Weiss, all with the permission of FINRA, according to the judge’s ruling.
What about Wells Fargo customers who reached settlements with the bank through FINRA in prior years? Zamansky said those investors will want Wells Fargo to review them.
As part of the bank-friendly FINRA award in the Georgia case, two Wells Fargo brokers had their records in the matter expunged.

It was my first corporate job, fairly simple and beneficial in multiple facets.
I did not advance in the manner I imagined and I eventually came to realize, that while definitely a great company to work for, I couldn’t see my self growing past my current level.
I eventually felt trapped, unappreciated, overworked, under compensated and under valued.
I learned a lot while working there and would recommend the place of business, but would not intentionally return.

METHODS OF CATEGORIZING CONTRAST REACTIONS There are two useful ways to approach contrast reactions.
Moderate Reactions which require treatment but are not immediately life-threatening Tachycardia/bradycardia Hypertension Pronounced cutaneous reaction Hypotension Bronchospasm, wheezing Dyspnea Laryngeal edema Pulmonary edema Treatment: Prompt treatment with close observation Severe Life-threatening with more severe signs or symptoms including: Laryngeal edema Clinically manifest arrhythmias Profound hypotension Convulsions Unresponsiveness Cardiopulmonary arrest Treatment: Immediate treatment.
4 Delayed Contrast Reactions Delayed contrast reactions can occur anywhere from 3 hours to 7 days following the administration of contrast.
Cutaneous reactions are the most frequent form of delayed contrast reaction with a reported incidence of 0.59%. Cutaneous reactions vary in size and presentation but are usually pruritic.
Delayed cutaneous reactions are more common in patients who have had a previous contrast reaction and in those who have been treated within the past 2 years, or are currently being treated with interleukin-2.
As with anaphylactic reactions, certain risk factors make patients more susceptible to iodinated contrast reactions: 1.
Allergic asthma Drug allergies Food allergies Prior reactions to contrast Treatment of Anaphylactoid Reactions Anaphylactoid reactions usually occur soon after contrast is administered.
Contrast Agents
The most widely used UCA in Europe is Sonovue, whilst Optison and Luminity are more frequently used in the US. These contrast agents are administered intravenously and can be given as a bolus or as a continuous infusion.
The contrast agents come in their separate constituents and Sonovue®, for example, is ‘made up’ by mixing saline with a dry powder to make a suspension of the contrast agent.
‘Making up’ the contrast agent when needed takes no more than 2-3 minutes and the steps are illustrated in the diagram below.
The vial is then agitated / shaken for 30-60s to mix the contents effectively and the contrast suspension is then ready to be drawn up into a syringe ready for intravenous injection.
A continuous infusion can also be used to produce a steady concentration of contrast within the heart and Bracco, manufacturers of Sonovue®, offer a specific Vueject® pump designed to administer an intravenous infusion.
The syringe of contrast agent is placed in the pump, as shown below, and this syringe is then constantly rotated to agitate the mixture.
The rate at which the contrast is infused obviously determines how long the contrast lasts before it is used up.
Contrast Agent
A contrast agent is a substance used to increase the contrast of structures or fluids within the body in medical imaging.
In MRIs, contrast agents shorten the relaxation times of nuclei within body tissues in order to alter the contrast in the image.
Several types of contrast agent are in use in medical imaging and they can roughly be classified based on the imaging modalities where they are used.
For radiography, which is based on X-rays, iodine and barium are the most common types of contrast agent.
Gadolinium is used in magnetic resonance imaging as an MRI contrast agent.
This causes water around the contrast agent to relax quickly, enhancing the quality of the MRI scan.
Microbubbles are used as contrast agents for sonographic examination, specifically echocardiograms, for the detection of a cardiac shunt.
Agents
Contrast agents are responsible for gathering security relevant data from an application, analyzing that data, and reporting findings to Contrast when necessary.
In specific situations, a Contrast agent can also take actions within an application to prevent exploitation or enable a security defense.
A Contrast agent gathers security relevant information using a variety of security instrumentation techniques, including code scanning, library scanning, instrumenting an application, configuration file scanning, and other techniques.
Any security instrumentation technique that gathers information is a sensor.
The analysis engine watches these traces for patterns of behavior that represent a violation of the Contrast rules.
If the analysis engine sees that data flow without the proper defenses, it recognizes that trace to match the Contrast rule for SQL injection reports it to Contrast.
The vast majority of the analysis is done locally in the agent, which enables Contrast’s scalability and performance.
Radiology Reference Article
MRI contrast agents have become an indispensable part of contemporary magnetic resonance imaging.
Although MRI was initially hoped to provide a means of making definitive diagnoses without administering contrast media, it has been found that the addition of contrast agents in many cases improves sensitivity and/or specificity.
Paul Lauterbur and his associates were the first to demonstrate the feasibility of using paramagnetic contrast agents to improve tissue discrimination on MRI 1.
Contrast agents can be grouped in many different ways.
One way is to consider them according to the compartments in which they distribute.
Information On Gadolinium-Based Contrast Agents
Gadolinium-Based Contrast Agents are intravenous drugs used in diagnostic imaging procedures to enhance the quality of magnetic resonance imaging or magnetic resonance angiography.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging is a medical imaging procedure for making images of the internal structures of the body.
MRI scanners use strong magnetic fields and radio waves to make images.
The signal in an MR image comes mainly from the protons in fat and water molecules in the body.
Radio waves are sent from and received by a transmitter/receiver in the machine, and these signals are used to make digital images of the scanned area of the body.
A typical MRI scan last from 20 – 90 minutes, depending on the part of the body being imaged.
For some MRI exams, intravenous drugs, such as gadolinium-based contrast agents are used to change the contrast of the MR image.
Contrast Agents For CT Scans: Time To Rethink The Risk?
Contrast Agents For CT Scans: Time To Rethink The Risk? : Shots – Health News A contrast agent doesn’t make you feel better or treat what’s ailing you.
By making CT scans clearer, contrast might be crucial in helping your doctor make the right diagnosis.
About 80 million CT scans are performed annually in the U.S., and the majority are done with contrast.
As a result, contrast is often withheld from patients deemed by their doctors to be at risk for kidney problems.
So if the physicians treating patients in the Wisconsin study were worried about giving contrast to high-risk patients, they may have steered them into the group receiving CT scans without it.
Researchers in Michigan found that contrast was associated with kidney injury in only the highest-risk patients, while counterparts at the Mayo Clinic, using slightly more sophisticated methods, found no association between contrast and kidney injury.
Still, Dr. Michael Rudnick, a kidney specialist at the University of Pennsylvania, isn’t so sure it’s time to clear contrast agents completely.

Internal Fixation For Fractures
A broken bone must be carefully stabilized and supported until it is strong enough to handle the body’s weight and movement.
Until the last century, physicians relied on casts and splints to support and stabilize the bone from outside the body.
The advent of sterile surgical procedures reduced the risk of infection, allowing doctors to internally set and stabilize fractured bones.
During a surgical procedure to set a fracture, the bone fragments are first repositioned into their normal alignment.
Internal fixation allows shorter hospital stays, enables patients to return to function earlier, and reduces the incidence of nonunion and malunion of broken bones.
The implants used for internal fixation are made from stainless steel and titanium, which are durable and strong.
Implants are compatible with the body and rarely cause an allergic reaction.

Today, advances in research and surgery allow providers to internally set and stabilize fractured bones.
During a surgical procedure to set a fracture, the bone fragments are first repositioned into their normal alignment.
Screws come in different sizes for use with bones of different sizes.
After the bone heals, screws may be either left in place or removed.
In some fractures of the long bones the best way to hold the bone pieces together is by inserting a rod or nail through the hollow center of the bone that normally contains some marrow.
Wires are often used to pin the bones back together.
In many cases, they are used in conjunction with other forms of internal fixation, but they can be used alone to treat fractures of small bones, such as those found in the hand or foot.
International Center For Limb Lengthening
Nails can be used to lengthen bones or to assist with lengthening bones.
Nails and rods are both inserted into the center of the bone, but only nails are attached to the bone with cross bolts or locking screws.
Rods are inserted inside the bone but are not attached to the bone with bone screws or pins.
How is a nail or a rod inserted into the center of a bone?
The outer part of a bone is made up of hard tissue, but the inside of a bone is made up softer marrow tissue.
The doctor will use an orthopedic drill to create a canal in the marrow cavity in the center of the bone.
In certain situations where there is an underlying bone disease that makes the bones at risk for fracture throughout life it may be preferable to leave the rod/nail inside the bone permanently to prevent re-fracture.

His large concert orchestra also produced albums of symphonic suites of the works of Irving Berlin, Richard Rogers and Cole Porter.
On leaving school he worked as a pianist arranger with various dance bands and light orchestras and by the time he was 18 he was working with American jazz musicians such as Benny Carter and Coleman Hawkins.
One of his albums “Mazel Tov! – Jewish Wedding Favorites” credits Stanley Black and His Orchestra on one side and Sol Schwartz and His Orchestra on the other.
Stanley Black is remembered for writing numerous scores for radio, television and cinema, including the theme-tune for The Goon Show.
During his life, he conducted many of Britain’s major orchestras, and until the 1990s he was still directing regular broadcast sessions at the BBC studios, despite the onset of deafness in later life.
In the 1960s and 70s, Stanley returned to his classical roots, issuing albums of works by Tchaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Wagner, Khachaturian and Dvorak, recorded by such orchestras as the London Philharmonic, the Royal Philharmonic and the London Symphony.
From 1944 to 1952, Stanley was conductor of the BBC Dance Orchestra, during which time he made more than 4,000 broadcasts.

Investing In Gold: Is It Still Profitable?
Investors can invest in gold through exchange-traded funds, buying stock in gold miners and associated companies, and buying a physical product.
The creation of a gold coin stamped with a seal seemed to be the answer, as gold jewelry was already widely accepted and recognized throughout various corners of the earth.
The Gold Reserve Act of 1934 gave the U.S. government title to all the gold coins in circulation and put an end to the minting of any new gold coins.
The U.S. abandoned the gold standard in 1971 when its currency ceased to be backed by gold.
If you had an ounce of gold today and converted it for today’s prices, it would still be enough to buy a brand new suit, but the same cannot be said for the $35. In short, you would have lost a substantial amount of your wealth if you decided to hold the $35 as opposed to the one ounce of gold because the value of gold has increased, while the value of a dollar has been eroded by inflation.
Gold stocks generally rise and fall with the price of gold, but there are well-managed mining companies that are profitable even when the price of gold is down.
A relatively small increase in the price of gold can lead to significant gains in the best gold stocks and owners of gold stocks typically obtain a much higher return on investment than owners of physical gold.
Gold As An Investment
Chinese investors began pursuing investment in gold as an alternative to investment in the Euro after the beginning of the Eurozone crisis in 2011.
Years Amount of gold sold by IMF sold to 1970-1971 “As much gold as IMF bought from South Africa” 1976-1980 50 million ounces 1999-2000 14 million ounces 2009-2010 13 million ounces 200 tons to India 10 tons to Sri Lanka 10 tons to Bangladesh 2 tons to Mauritius IMF still have a balance of 2,814.1 metric tons of gold.
Unlike gold coins, gold rounds commonly have no additional metals added to them for durability purposes and do not have to be made by a government mint, which allows the gold rounds to have a lower overhead price as compared to gold coins.
The first gold ETF, Gold Bullion Securities, was launched in March 2003 on the Australian Stock Exchange, and originally represented exactly 0.1 troy ounces of gold.
For private investors, vaulted gold offers private individuals to obtain ownership in professionally vaulted gold starting from minimum investment requirements of several thousand U.S.-dollars or denominations as low as one gram.
If one owns a share in a gold mine where the costs of production are US$300 per troy ounce and the price of gold is $600 per troy ounce, the mine’s profit margin will be $300. A 10% increase in the gold price to $660 per troy ounce will push that margin up to $360, which represents a 20% increase in the mine’s profitability, and possibly a 20% increase in the share price.
Cash for gold – With the rise in the value of gold due to the financial crisis of 2007-2010, there has been a surge in companies that will buy personal gold in exchange for cash, or sell investments in gold bullion and coins.
How To Invest In Gold – Forbes Advisor
Alternatives to invest in gold include buying shares of gold mining companies or gold exchange-traded funds.
Collectible coins, such as South African Krugerrands, Canadian Maple Leafs and American Gold Eagles, are the most widely available type of gold coins.
Gold coin prices may not entirely align with their gold content, though.
Investing in gold jewelry carries many risks that investing in pure gold doesn’t.
Keep in mind that the shares of stock of gold companies are correlated with gold prices but also are based on fundamentals related to each company’s current profitability and expenses.
Investing in gold ETFs and mutual funds can provide you with exposure to gold’s long-term stability while offering more liquidity than physical gold and more diversification than individual gold stocks.
Depending on your own preference and aptitude for risk, you may choose to invest in physical gold, gold stocks, gold ETFs and mutual funds or speculative futures and options contracts.
Gold As An Investment: Should You Buy It?
You can take physical possession of gold by buying either gold coins or gold bullion.
You can buy bullion or coins from some banks, dealers, brokerage firms, and the U.S. Mint, which has been producing gold coins and bullion for investment since 1986.
You can also buy stock in gold mining companies, gold futures contracts, gold-focused exchange-traded funds, and other regular financial instruments.
If you look at historical gold prices, you’ll find that the price of gold shot up dramatically in the 2000s.
During the pandemic crisis, demand for gold surged, and the price of gold increased.
If you are investing in gold mining companies, the price of the stock may reflect the company’s financial health and market position more than the price of gold.
GLD shares will replicate exposure to gold prices, minus expenses related to storing the gold and trading GLD shares.
Is Buying Gold A Good Investment?
Since gold is priced in U.S. dollars, any deterioration in the dollar will logically lead to a higher price of gold.
Since gold is used in the production of various products including jewelry and electronics, there is a reliable demand that further stabilizes the price of gold.
Since gold is considered a collectible in the U.S., the capital gains tax rate is 28%, which is much higher than the ordinary capital gains rate of 15%. That said, mining companies that don’t invest in gold directly are still taxed at the ordinary rate.
You can invest in gold through financial derivatives that specialize in gold investments like call and put options.
Invest in a gold ETF. A gold ETF is an exchange-traded fund that specializes in investing in a range of gold securities.
Two popular gold ETFs trading on the market are the streetTRACKS Gold Trust and the iShares COMEX Gold Trust.
Exactly how much will it cost you to store and insure physical gold? What are the tax differences for your income tax bracket between investing in a gold ETF or a gold mining ETF? Knowing the details can make a big difference when it comes to profitability.

Whole grains offer a “Complete package” of health benefits, unlike refined grains, which are stripped of valuable nutrients in the refining process.
A growing body of research shows that choosing whole grains and other less-processed, higher-quality sources of carbohydrates, and cutting back on refined grains, improves health in many ways.
Due to an increasing amount of research showing the various health benefits derived from whole grains, and even a possible detrimental effect when eating mostly refined grains, it is recommended to choose mostly whole grains instead of refined grains.
Most studies, including some from several different Harvard teams, show a connection between whole grains and better health.
In a study of more than 160,000 women whose health and dietary habits were followed for up to 18 years, those who averaged 2 to 3 servings of whole grains a day were 30% less likely to have developed type 2 diabetes than those who rarely ate whole grains.
When the researchers combined these results with those of several other large studies, they found that eating an extra 2 servings of whole grains a day decreased the risk of type 2 diabetes by 21%. A follow-up to that study including men and women from the Nurses’ Health Studies I and II and the Health Professionals Follow-Up Study found that swapping white rice for whole grains could help lower diabetes risk.
14,15] A review of four large population studies also showed a protective effect of whole grains from colorectal cancer, with a cumulative risk reduction of 21%. Digestive Health.
Whole Grains: Hearty Options For A Healthy Diet
Find out why whole grains are better than refined grains and how to add more to your diet.
All types of grains are good sources of complex carbohydrates and some key vitamins and minerals, but whole grains – the healthiest kinds of grains – in particular are an important part of a healthy diet.
The Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommends that at least half of all the grains you eat are whole grains.
If you’re like most people, you’re not getting enough whole grains – so see how to make whole grains a part of your healthy diet.
Grains and whole grains are the seeds of grasses cultivated for food.
Whole grains are either single foods, such as brown rice and popcorn, or ingredients in products, such as buckwheat in pancakes or whole-wheat flour in bread. Refined grains.
Make at least half the grains in your diet whole grains.
The Whole Grains Council
The grains below, when consumed in a form including the bran, germ and endosperm, are examples of generally accepted whole grain foods and flours.
Amaranth is a “Pseudo-grain” – like quinoa and buckwheat, it’s not in the Poaceae botanical family, but is listed with other grains because its nutritional profile and uses are similar to “True” cereal grains.
How to be sure you’re getting whole bulgur: Because bulgur is made by cooking the entire wheat kernel, drying it and chopping it in smaller pieces, it remains a whole grain.
White rice is a refined grain, not a whole grain, because the germ and bran have been removed.
How to be sure you’re getting whole grain rice: The term brown rice is always whole grain, as are most other colored rices, such as black rice or red rice.
How to be sure you’re getting whole rye: Look for whole rye or rye berries in the ingredient list – just because something is labeled “Rye bread” doesn’t guarantee it’s whole grain.
Teff grains are minute – just 1/150 the size of wheat kernels – giving rise to the grain’s name, which comes from teffa, meaning “Lost” in Amharic.
Whole Grain
A whole grain is a grain of any cereal and pseudocereal that contains the endosperm, germ, and bran, in contrast to refined grains, which retain only the endosperm.
Whole grains are a source of multiple nutrients and dietary fiber, recommended for children and adults in several daily servings containing a variety of foods that meet whole grain-rich criteria.
Manufacturers of foods containing whole grains in specified amounts are allowed a health claim for marketing purposes in the United States, stating: “Low fat diets rich in fiber-containing grain products, fruits, and vegetables may reduce the risk of some types of cancer, a disease associated with many factors” and “Diets low in saturated fat and cholesterol and rich in fruits, vegetables, and grain products that contain some types of dietary fiber, particularly soluble fiber, may reduce the risk of heart disease, a disease associated with many factors”.
The scientific opinion of the European Food Safety Authority related to health claims on gut health or bowel function, weight control, blood glucose and insulin levels, weight management, blood cholesterol, satiety, glycemic index, digestive function and cardiovascular health is “That the food constituent, whole grain, is not sufficiently characterised in relation to the claimed health effects” and “That a cause and effect relationship cannot be established between the consumption of whole grain and the claimed effects considered in this opinion.”
A 2017 review found insufficient evidence for a relationship between whole grain consumption and lowered risk of cardiovascular diseases.
When wheat is milled to make flour, the parts of the grain are usually separated and then are recombined to make specific types of flour, such as whole wheat, whole grain, white cake and pastry flour, and all-purpose white flour.
If all parts of the kernel are used in the same relative proportions as they exist in the original kernel, then the flour is considered whole grain.
15 Healthiest Whole Grains
A low intake of whole grains is actually the leading dietary risk factor for death and disease in the U.S., according to a 2019 study published in the Lancet.
“Abundant in fiber, whole grains have a range of healthy benefits, from supporting healthy digestion to promoting better glycemic control. Start slow and keep it simple by swapping some refined carbohydrates in your diet for 100% whole-grain versions.”
These 15 grains are worth keeping at the top of your shopping list.
Get even more exotic with red and black rice, both of which are considered whole grains and are high in antioxidants.
Though technically a grass, wild rice is also considered a whole grain and is rich in B vitamins, such as niacin and folate.
Whole Rye Rye has more nutrients per 100-calorie serving than any other whole grain, according to nutritional research from the nonprofit The Organic Center.
Amaranth This grain is a winner when it comes to protein: According to the Whole Grains Council, it has all nine essential amino acids, making it a complete protein.
MyPlate
The amount of grains you need to eat depends on your age, sex, height, weight, and level of physical activity.
Most Americans eat enough total grain foods, but few eat enough whole grains.
At least half of the grains you eat should be whole grains.
Find the right amount for you by getting your MyPlate Plan.
For general recommendations by age, see the table below.
In general, 1 slice of bread, 1 cup of ready-to-eat cereal, or cup of cooked rice, cooked pasta, or cooked cereal can be considered as 1 ounce-equivalent from the Grains Group.
The table below lists specific amounts that count as 1 ounce-equivalent of grains towards your daily recommended intake.
9 Health Benefits Of Eating Whole Grains
While a high intake of refined grains is linked to health problems like obesity and inflammation, whole grains are a different story.
Here are the top 9 health benefits of eating whole grains.
One of the biggest health benefits of whole grains is that they lower your risk of heart disease, which is the leading cause of death worldwide.
A review of 10 studies found that three 1-ounce servings of whole grains daily may lower your risk of heart disease by 22%. Similarly, a 10-year study in 17,424 adults observed that those who ate the highest proportion of whole grains in relation to their total carb intake had a 47% lower risk of heart disease.
Eating whole grains may lower your risk of heart disease, especially when they replace refined grains.
A review of 16 studies concluded that replacing refined grains with whole varieties and eating at least 2 servings of whole grains daily could lower your risk of diabetes.
The results of these and other studies support public health recommendations to replace most refined grains with whole grains.
Post Idea #19: Alternating current

Definition, Working Principle, AC Generator
An alternating current can be defined as a current that changes its magnitude and polarity at regular intervals of time.
AC is the form of current that are mostly used in different appliances.
An alternating current has a wide advantage over DC as AC is able to transmit power over large distances without great loss of energy.
The normal waveform of AC in most of the circuits are sinusoidal in nature in which the positive half period corresponds with the positive direction of the current and vice-versa.
Also Read: Differences Between AC and DC. Average Value of AC. The average value is usually defined as the average of the instantaneous values of alternating current over a complete cycle.
From equation, the value of current be maximum at t = 900, so sin t =1. Then, the instantaneous value of current will be,.
In a pure resistive ac circuit, the current is in phase with the voltage.
Alternating Current
Alternating current is an electric current which periodically reverses direction and changes its magnitude continuously with time in contrast to direct current which flows only in one direction.
Alternating current is the form in which electric power is delivered to businesses and residences, and it is the form of electrical energy that consumers typically use when they plug kitchen appliances, televisions, fans and electric lamps into a wall socket.
The usual waveform of alternating current in most electric power circuits is a sine wave, whose positive half-period corresponds with positive direction of the current and vice versa.
The skin depth is the thickness at which the current density is reduced by 63%. Even at relatively low frequencies used for power transmission, non-uniform distribution of current still occurs in sufficiently thick conductors.
The current flowing on the surface of the inner conductor is equal and opposite to the current flowing on the inner surface of the outer tube.
The spread of Westinghouse and other AC systems triggered a push back in late 1887 by Thomas Edison who attempted to discredit alternating current as too dangerous in a public campaign called the “War of the currents”.
The Ames Hydroelectric Generating Plant and the original Niagara Falls Adams Power Plant were among the first hydroelectric alternating current power plants.
What Is Alternating Current?
One might wonder why anyone would bother with such a thing as AC. It is true that in some cases AC holds no practical advantage over DC. In applications where electricity is used to dissipate energy in the form of heat, the polarity or direction of current is irrelevant, so long as there is enough voltage and current to the load to produce the desired heat.
The faster the alternator’s shaft is turned, the faster the magnet will spin, resulting in an alternating voltage and current that switches directions more often in a given amount of time.
AC and DC motor designs are very similar to their generator counterparts, the AC motor being dependent upon the reversing magnetic field produced by alternating current through its stationary coils of wire to rotate the rotating magnet around on its shaft, and the DC motor being dependent on the brush contacts making and breaking connections to reverse current through the rotating coil every 1/2 rotation.
The AC voltage induced in the unpowered coil is equal to the AC voltage across the powered coil multiplied by the ratio of secondary coil turns to primary coil turns.
If the secondary coil is powering a load, the current through the secondary coil is just the opposite: primary coil current multiplied by the ratio of primary to secondary turns.
DC stands for “Direct Current,” meaning voltage or current that maintains constant polarity or direction, respectively, over time.
AC stands for “Alternating Current,” meaning voltage or current that changes polarity or direction, respectively, over time.
Most of the time when the topic of alternating current is discussed at this level, current and voltages do not vary with time.
All the appliances around us in real life are wired to work with these types of currents and voltage sources.
Alternating Current is termed as a current that changes its magnitude and direction periodically.
The figure given below shows the graph of the magnitude of alternating current and a current from DC sources.
Alternating currents are also accompanied by alternating voltages.
One of the advantages of using AC current over DC current is that AC current can be transmitted easily and its voltage can be increased or decreased easily by using transformers.
Apart from these, there are many circuits that are able to produce alternating voltages and current.
Alternating Current
Alternating Current is an electric current that reverses direction cyclically – unlike direct current, which always travels the same way, as is the case with anything powered by a battery, for example.
The magnitude of AC current varies, growing from zero to a positive maximum and then reducing back to zero before the reversal of the current causes the current to gradually reach a negative maximum and then return to zero once again.
The number of times an alternating current repeats a full cycle per second is the frequency and the maximum the current reaches in either direction is its amplitude.
The waveform of an alternating current power circuit is a sine wave.
Placing various components in a circuit powered by an AC source can affect the sine waves for the current and the voltage across the circuit that triggers the current flow, as demonstrated in this tutorial.
Illustrated below is a simple circuit with an alternating current power supply.
The voltage and current in the circuit fluctuate due to the alternating current, as seen in the readings on the meters in the circuit.
The Physics Hypertextbook
An electric current that frequently reverses direction is called an alternating current.
The voltage of an alternating current source varies sinusoidally.
From an engineering standpoint, alternating current systems can be essentially described with three numbers: voltage, frequency, and phase.
Comparing the value of an alternating current to a direct current requires some math.
Alternating current is more dangerous than direct current.
Direct current tends to cause a single muscle contraction often strong enough to force the person away from the current’s source.
Alternating current causes a continuing muscle contraction, often preventing people from releasing their grip on the current’s source.
Definition & Facts
The interval of time between the attainment of a definite value on two successive cycles is called the period, the number of cycles or periods per second is the frequency, and the maximum value in either direction is the amplitude of the alternating current.
Low frequencies, such as 50 and 60 cycles per second, are used for domestic and commercial power, but alternating currents of frequencies around 100,000,000 cycles per second are used in television and those of several thousand megahertz in radar or microwave communication.
For decades, alternating current had the distinct advantage over direct current of being able to transmit power over large distances without great loss of energy to resistance.
The power transmitted is equal to the current times the voltage; however, the power lost is equal to the resistance times the square of the current.
Because of the power loss, these grids used low voltages to maintain high current and thus could only transmit usable power over short distances.
DC power transmission was soon supplanted by AC systems that transmit power at very high voltages and easily use transformers to change the voltage.
Current AC systems transmit power from generators at hundreds of thousands of volts and use transformers to lower the voltage to 220 volts or 120 volts for individual customers.

Thailand’S Tourism Authority Aims To Attract 10 Million Foreign Tourists In 2022, With India As A Leading Focus
National – The Tourism Authority of Thailand aims to attract 10 million foreign tourists, mostly from ASEAN countries, in 2022 to revive global and domestic tourism industries.
Tourists from ASEAN countries have now become the main target group in Thailand as Chinese tourists, who have always been a major potential group for Thai tourism, had drastically declined as the Chinese government still insists on its “Zero Covid” policy, closing international borders and prohibiting its people from traveling overseas in tour groups, a popular way to travel.
Tanes Petsuwan, Deputy Governor for International Marketing Asia and South Pacific, said that TAT had set a goal for a number of tourists in the “Short-term market” at around 5 million people.
As of Wednesday, TAT and Thai Vietjet Airline had signed a letter of intent, effective for one year, to jointly plan marketing strategies and activities to promote tourism experiences in the ASEAN market in order to stimulate domestic travel in Thailand and increase potential tourists from Vietnam and Cambodia.
The strategies or “Joint promotion” projects may include a package of a flight ticket to Thailand with free unlimited domestic flights in Thailand within one month for Vietnam tourists and a package of a flight ticket to Thailand with a free health check-up package to stimulate the medical tourism market among Cambodian tourists.
Tanes also stated that Thailand may earn more tourism income from Malaysian tourists after Malaysian Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob paid a visit to Thailand and met Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O’Cha.
Tanes concluded: “Currently, a quarantine for 14-21 days was implemented for all Chinese people who returned to the country. TAT hoped that in the second quarter, we could attract more Chinese tourists and the country would gradually relax its measures in some areas/provinces. The two-three week quarantine on their arrival home was the biggest single negative factor for Chinese tourists currently.”
Tourism Authority Of Thailand
The Tourism Authority of Thailand is an organization of Thailand under the Ministry of Tourism and Sports.
Its mandate is to promote Thailand’s tourism industry, and protect the environment.

Erectile Dysfunction
The term erectile dysfunction is not used for other disorders of erection, such as priapism.
Penile erection is managed by two mechanisms: the reflex erection, which is achieved by directly touching the penile shaft, and the psychogenic erection, which is achieved by erotic or emotional stimuli.
One of the first steps is to distinguish between physiological and psychological ED. Determining whether involuntary erections are present is important in eliminating the possibility of psychogenic causes for ED. Obtaining full erections occasionally, such as nocturnal penile tumescence when asleep, tends to suggest that the physical structures are functionally working.

The solar system consists of six planetary satellite system out of which 205 satellites are known to be natural satellites.
The satellite’s size, altitude and design depend on the use of the satellite.
On the basis of the direction of the motion of the satellites and the distance from the Earth’s surface, the artificial satellites are broadly classified into two;.
Geostationary Satellites: The artificial satellites that rotates in the same direction as the earth in their pre-fixed orbits which is around 35, 800 km away from the Earth’s surface are called the geostationary or geosynchronous satellites.
Polar Orbiting Satellites: The artificial satellites that orbit around the north-south orbit passing over the north and the South Pole and is approximately 500-800 km away from the Earth’s surface are called the Polar satellites.
Geostationary SatellitesThese satellites are high orbit satellites that orbit around the earth in approximately 36000 km away orbits.
These satellites are generally used as communication and weather satellites.
Artificial Satellites
Some communication satellites are about 7 m long and have solar panels that extend another 50 m. The largest artificial satellite is the International Space Station.
Altitudes of satellites above the Earth’s surface also vary.
Medium Earth orbit – most MEO satellites are at an altitude of 20,000 km, and time for one orbit is 12 hours.
Navigation satellitesThe GPS is made up of 24 satellites that orbit at an altitude of 20,000 km above the surface of the Earth.
The difference in time for signals received from four satellites is used to calculate the exact location of a GPS receiver on Earth.
Communication system – all satellites need to be able to send and receive data to ground stations on Earth or to other satellites.
Once in orbit, satellites do not need any rockets to keep them moving.
Artificial Satellite
Deviations in artificial satellite orbits can be used to determine the long-wavelength components of the Earth’s gravity field.
Satellites orbit the earth following a trajectory which resembles the Keplerian ellipse that describes the motion in radial field; the higher the satellite is, the closer its orbit to the Keplerian ellipse.

Artificial Satellites: Types, Functions And Characteristics
We explain what artificial satellites are and the types of satellites that exist.
Artificial satellites are objects that human beings manufacture and launch into outer space with the aim of orbiting a celestial body or a natural satellite.
The purpose of these satellites is to obtain certain useful information about the celestial body or natural satellite that they observe.
Scientific satellites have the function of studying space, radiation or the planets, and applied satellites have a specific function on Earth, such as meteorological observation, military espionage or telecommunications.
Artificial satellites are of great importance in the field of telecommunications because they transmit messages and information from one point on the planet to another.
Unlike artificial satellites, which are created by humans, natural satellites are those that exist naturally in space.
Other natural satellites are: the four main satellites of Jupiter : Io, Europa, Ganymede and Callisto; the largest satellite of Saturn : Titan; the two satellites of Mars : Deimos and Phobos; and the main satellites of Uranus: Titania, Miranda, Ariel, Umbriel and Oberon.

Unlike a single satellite, a constellation can provide permanent global or near-global coverage, such that at any time everywhere on Earth at least one satellite is visible.
Satellite series or satellite programs, which are generations of satellites launched in succession;.
Satellites in Medium Earth orbit and Low Earth orbit are often deployed in satellite constellations, because the coverage area provided by a single satellite only covers a small area that moves as the satellite travels at the high angular velocity needed to maintain its orbit.

Satellite Constellations
We summarise what we can do, as an international community, to work toward solutions to help mitigate the negative impact to astronomy of satellite constellations.
The International Astronomical Union is concerned about the impact of satellite constellations on astronomical investigations.
While there are currently around 2000 active satellites orbiting Earth, the planned satellite constellations could increase this number by tens of thousands in the coming decades.
Despite notable efforts to avoid interfering with radio astronomy frequencies, aggregate radio signals emitted from the satellite constellations can still threaten astronomical observations at radio wavelengths.
Satellite constellations can pose a significant or debilitating threat [Q2] to important existing and future astronomical infrastructures, and the IAU urges their designers and deployers as well as policymakers to work with the astronomical community in a concerted effort to analyse and understand the impact of satellite constellations.
The IAU has supported the efforts of observatories observing the brightness and frequency of satellite constellations.
Topics will include issues like the impact of LEDs and satellite constellations on astronomy as well as our right to view a starry night sky.
Soyuz Rocket Launches 36 OneWeb Satellites Into Orbit For Modified Satellite Internet Constellation
A Soyuz rocket successfully sent 36 OneWeb satellites into orbit Wednesday as the London-based company continues its recovery from a tough 2020.
The European launch provider Arianespace launched the Soyuz rocket from Vostochny Cosmodrome in Russia’s far east at 10:47 p.m. EDT. OneWeb satellites should have begun to deploy in groups of four beginning at 12:05 a.m. EDT, with the ninth and final group expected to deploy at 2:38 a.m. EDT, if all goes according to plan.
The satellite constellation, still under construction, aims to offer access to the Internet in remote areas using multiple Internet protocols, including 3G, LTE, the newest generation 5G and Wi-Fi, according to launch provider Arianespace.

OneWeb “Is focused on scaling the satellite constellation to launch commercial services starting at the end of 2021 to the UK, Alaska, Canada, northern Europe, Greenland, Iceland, and the Arctic seas,” Arianespace wrote in a mission description.
OneWeb had originally planned to put 48,000 satellites into orbit, but after a tough 2020 it filed a request with the Federal Communications Commission in January proposing 6,372 satellites.
“OneWeb Satellites, a joint venture with Airbus, is manufacturing the satellites and has returned to full production,” OneWeb added, saying it has secured global priority spectrum rights with the International Telecommunications Union to support the growing constellation.
China Launches Test Satellites For Broadband Constellation
HELSINKI – China launched a set of commercial satellites Saturday for testing broadband services, on-orbit networking and integrating communications and remote sensing technologies.
A Long March 2C lifted off from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest China at 1:01 a.m. March 5, carrying six satellites for private firm Galaxy Space and a further passenger in the Xingyuan-2 remote sensing satellite for startup SpaceWish.
The six satellites for private startup Galaxy Space are designated GS-2, GS-AP01, 02 and 03 and GS-2BP01 and 02, while also bearing secondary names through sponsorship.
Notably the satellite could play an important part in the development of China’s plan to establish a national low Earth orbit broadband megaconstellation.
“These six satellites will form an experimental network integrating communication and remote sensing,” Chang Ming of Galaxy Space told CCTV. “When the whole experimental network forms, it will be verified in various application scenarios. It will also be the first technical verification for China’s low-orbit broadband satellite constellation.”
Verifying the performance of the new satellites in orbit along with its supply chains and mass-manufacturing capabilities could put it in position to make big contributions to the project.
Galaxy Space established a satellite manufacturing factory in Nantong which it says can produce 300-500 satellites per year.

China Launches Satellites To Test Low-Orbit Internet Constellation
China on Saturday successfully launched seven satellites from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest China’s Sichuan Province.
One remote sensing satellite and six low-Earth-orbit broadband communication satellites that will form the first pilot version of a satellite internet constellation were sent into orbit atop a Long March-2C carrier rocket at 2:01 p.m. local time.
The LEO broadband communication satellites, each weighing 190 kilograms, were mass-produced by China’s private satellite developer GalaxySpace.
These satellites will be part of a testing network of satellite internet, nicknamed “Mini-spider Constellation,” the company said.
Together with the company’s first satellite of its kind that was put into orbit two years ago, the seven satellites build a testing network to provide uninterrupted low-orbit satellite broadband communication services for more than 30 minutes at a time, becoming a major experimenting platform for China’s satellite internet constructions.
“Today’s launch proved that China has the capability to build satellite internet constellation at large scale, which includes the ability to mass-produce satellites at low cost as well as to operate in network,” the company’s co-founder Chang Ming told CGTN. “This will promote the development of the technology for integrating remote sensing and low-orbit communication satellites for commercial use,” he said.

Launch Vehicle
The Mars 2020 mission was designed to launch at a time when Earth and Mars are in positions in their orbits that is advantageous for spacecraft traveling to and landing on Mars.
This favorable position of the planets means that it takes less launch energy to get to the Red Planet compared to other times when Earth and Mars are in different positions in their orbits around the sun.
When mission planners are choosing among different launch vehicles, they consider how much mass each launch vehicle can lift into space.
The integrated Mars 2020 flight system is similar in size and mass to its predecessor, the Mars Science Laboratory mission.
The Mars Science Laboratory mission had a total launch mass, including the Atlas V-541 that lifted it away from Earth, of about 531,000 kilograms.
Mars 2020 launched on an Atlas V-541, an intermediate-class launch vehicle.
NASA had also successfully used rockets in the same family for prior missions such as Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, New Horizons, Mars Science Laboratory, and Juno.
Launch Vehicle
A launch vehicle or carrier rocket is a rocket-propelled vehicle used to carry a payload from Earth’s surface to space, usually to Earth orbit or beyond.
A launch system includes the launch vehicle, launch pad, vehicle assembly and fuelling systems, range safety, and other related infrastructure.
Medium-lift launch vehicle: 2,000 to 20,000 kilograms – e.g. Soyuz ST. Heavy-lift launch vehicle: > 20,000 to 50,000 kilograms – e.g. Ariane 5.
In contrast, reusable launch vehicle boosters are designed to be recovered intact and launched again.
A satellite bound for Geostationary orbit can either be directly inserted by the upper stage of the launch vehicle or launched to a geostationary transfer orbit.
Mission architectures for distributed launch were explored in the 2000s and launch vehicles with integrated distributed launch capability built in began development in 2017 with the Starship design.
Both the US Space Shuttle-with one of its abort modes -and the Soviet Buran had a designed-in capability to return a part of the launch vehicle to the launch site via the mechanism of horizontal-landing of the spaceplane portion of the launch vehicle.
Types & Definition
The initial acceleration must also be provided very rapidly in order to minimize both the time that a launch vehicle takes to transit the stressful environment of the atmosphere and the time during which the vehicle’s rocket engines and other systems must operate near their performance limits; a launch from Earth’s surface or atmosphere usually attains orbital velocity within 8-12 minutes.
With the exception of the partially reusable U.S. space shuttle and the Soviet Buran vehicle, all launch vehicles to date have been designed for only a single use; they are thus called expendable launch vehicles.
With costs ranging from more than 10 million dollars each for the smaller launch vehicles used to put lighter payloads into orbit to hundreds of millions of dollars for the launchers needed for the heaviest payloads, access to space is very expensive, on the order of many thousands of dollars per kilogram taken to orbit.
Historically, many launch vehicles have been derived from ballistic missiles, and the link between new countries developing space launch capability and obtaining long-range military missiles is a continuing security concern.
Most launch vehicles have been developed through government funding, although some of those launch vehicles have been turned over to the private sector as a means of providing commercial space transportation services.
Particularly in the United States, there have also been a number of entrepreneurial attempts to develop a privately funded launch vehicle; one company, Space Exploration Technologies, has successfully developed the Falcon family of launch vehicles.
The Saturn family of launch vehicles, which also included the Saturn IB, was the first American launch vehicle family developed specifically for space use.

Demand destruction is a permanent downward shift on the demand curve in the direction of lower demand of a commodity, such as energy products, induced by a prolonged period of high prices or constrained supply.
In the context of the oil industry, “Demand” generally refers to the quantity consumed, rather than any measure of a demand curve as used in mainstream economics.
The term has come to some prominence lately as a result of the growing interest in the peak oil theory, where demand destruction is the reduction of demand for oil and oil-derived products.
A familiar illustration of demand destruction is the effect of high gasoline prices on automobile sales.
Demand thereby has been “Destroyed”, shifting the demand curve.
Competition from low priced natural gas, reduced demand for coal due to emission restrictions and uneconomic export situations each play a part.

“We have an expectation that inflation will peak and begin to come down this year. To the extent inflation comes in higher or is more persistently highwe would be prepared to move more aggressively by raising the federal funds rate by more than 25 basis points at a meeting or meetings.”
Fed futures markets are predicting about 6-25 basis point rate increases in 2022.
Gas prices have increased by 57% in the last six months and April gasoline futures are suggesting another 6% increase in prices.
The last time gas prices were near these levels, during the Great Financial Crisis, total miles driven barely budged.
Can the Fed orchestrate demand destruction when it comes to food and energy prices?
Rising rates won’t change the rate of consumption in food and gas prices alone-These are basic necessities and it is hard to bend the demand curve.
The real demand destruction will occur in crowding out spending on discretionary items like travel, leisure, dining out, and other service-related industries as consumers pay higher prices at the pump and grocery store.
DEMAND DESTRUCTION
DEMAND DESTRUCTION. On the heels of a dovish Fed meeting and strong employment report the S&P finished the week up better than 2%. Even more compelling, Friday marked the seventh straight session stocks ended the day at a closing all-time high.
Labor costs continue to climb in the face of a surging demand for workers.
Demand destruction comes in many forms and there is a price point in almost every product that forces a change in consumer behavior.
Energy prices continue to climb and with the administration’s pivot back to OPEC to fill increasing demand once again Americans find themselves dependent on foreign oil.
Ask them after energy costs have risen to a point that forces 70’s behavior.
Any rational view of shifting to green energy has to include increased fossil fuel production to meet the needs of a growing economy until green energy can sufficiently scale.
In conclusion, at what price for oil and natural gas does demand destruction take hold forcing both the consumer and industry to cut back.
The term ‘New Normal’ has been used in the first 20 years of the 21st Century more than it was ever used in the preceding 2 centuries combined.
From 9-11 to the great recession to now, the Chinese pandemic, the ‘New Normal’ has morphed into now the ‘newest normal’.
This newest normal has a new phrase that is being bantered around quite a bit by economist, and those who discuss.
Oil Shock Affects Plastics Manufacturing In First Sign Of Demand Destruction
Stratospheric oil prices are flowing through into the plastics industry with producers reducing activity as profit margins collapse, a first sign of the demand destruction that may spread to other sectors.
Several Asian operators of plants that make the petrochemicals used as the building blocks for everything from children’s toys to car interiors have cut processing rates to as low as 80 percent, said five traders at these companies.
The soaring price of crude and question marks over the supply of oil-derived naphtha – a popular feedstock in Asia – from Russia are challenging the economics of producing plastics in crackers in South Korea, Taiwan and Malaysia, said the traders who asked not to be named as the information isn’t public.
As much as 15 percent of Asia’s naphtha imports come from Russia and the Black Sea and Baltic regions, according to industry consultant FGE. Many petrochemical plants have paused purchases from Russia, and are hesitant to buy crude from anywhere at such high levels, given that their finished products won’t be ready for around six weeks or so.
Profit margins from products including ethylene and propylene – which are used to make plastics – were already weak and have shrunk further since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Taiwan’s Formosa Petrochemical Corp. is running crackers at its Mailiao plant at 80 percent to 85 percent, three of the traders said.
Lotte Chemical Titan Holding Bhd. has cut run rates at its facility in Malaysia to below 90 percent and plans to reduce them further if market conditions deteriorate, while Hanwha Total Petrochemical Co., Lotte Chemical Corp. and LG Chem Ltd. in South Korea have lowered processing by 10 percent to 20 percent, the traders said.
Oil Market Update: Demand Destruction On Its Way
Prices have risen as non-energy sanctions have made it more difficult for Western customers to transact for Russian oil.
This adds cost and puts pressure on benchmark prices.
With an immediate OPEC or U.S. driller supply response unlikely, an Iran deal or demand destruction are the only real options to relieve price pressure.
The latter might take higher prices, meaning a 2008 type spike isn’t off the table unless a deal is struck.
In July of 2008, oil prices spiked to a record $147/bbl on supply concerns and surging demand from China.
We previously expected inventory builds in the second half off the year to result in prices moderating.
Prices are now likely to be dictated by the OPEC+ response, U.S. driller activity, and any Iran deal.
What Does Demand Destruction Mean For Downstream Oil And Gas?
Demand destruction occurs when demand for a product or service falls significantly during a very brief time period and there is no evidence or reason to believe that demand will recover for the foreseeable future.
To summarize: demand destruction is the permanent or prolonged loss of demand for a product or service due to a sudden and sustained increase in its price.
How does demand destruction differ from other demand terms such as demand restraint or decreased demand?
A historical example of demand restraint is the rationing measures on gasoline during World War II. What causes demand destruction in oil and gas?
Demand destruction in oil and gas can be due to many factors.
The demand for gasoline in the United States fell significantly during the “Great Recession” of 2008-2009, when global oil demand decreased by over one million barrels per day.
Forward-thinking oil companies are using this time to shore up their mitigation strategies in preparation for any imbalance in the supply and demand of oil and gas.
