Bond Markets’ Inflation Pricing Just Reached A Record
Investors’ bets on longer-term U.S. inflation briefly hit a record Monday, as crude prices soared following news of a potential ban on Russian oil from the U.S. and allies.
Bond markets reflected inflation of nearly 2.79% over the next decade in Monday morning trading.
The rally in oil prices has raised questions about whether Americans’ longer-term inflation expectations could become unmoored from the central bank’s 2% target.
“In light of recent energy price moves in response to events in Ukrainelong-run inflation expectations could be at risk of moving to an uncomfortable level for Fed officials, especially given the backdrop of these other forces pointing to persistently elevated inflation,” wrote Deutsche Bank economists led by Matthew Luzzetti in a March 7 note.
Bond-market inflation pricing is sensitive to oil prices because it is based on Treasury Inflation-Protection Securities, which are benchmarked to the consumer-price index.
The gauge is based on the difference between yields on normal Treasuries and Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities, or TIPS. Put simply, it is the amount of inflation required for an investor holding TIPS to “Break even” with a comparable Treasury note.
Those markets capture only the inflation expectations of investors, of course.
Markets Insider
Unlike shares, bonds are not traded in another currency, but instead in percent.
The investor does not purchase a quantity of bonds, but instead a particular nominal amount.
The nominal value is the price at which the bond is to be repaid.
The coupon shows the interest that the respective bond yields.
The issuer of the bond takes out a loan on the capital market and therefore owes a debt to the purchaser of the bond.
Purchasers of bonds consequently have a claim against the issuer.
The credit terms for bonds, such as the rate of return, term and redemption, are defined precisely in advance.
Bond Market Definition
The bond market is broadly segmented into two different silos: the primary market and the secondary market.
The primary market is frequently referred to as the “New issues” market in which transactions strictly occur directly between the bond issuers and the bond buyers.
The first U.S. Treasury bonds, too, were issued to help fund the military, first in the war of independence from the British crown, and again in the form of “Liberty Bonds” to help raise funds to fight World War I. The corporate bond market is also quite old.
The general bond market can be segmented into the following bond classifications, each with its own set of attributes.
Emerging Market Bonds These are bonds issued by governments and companies located in emerging market economies, these bonds provide much greater growth opportunities, but also greater risk, than domestic or developed bond markets.
Just as the S&P 500 and the Russell indices track equities, big-name bond indices like the Bloomberg Aggregate Bond Index, the Merrill Lynch Domestic Master, and the Citigroup U.S. Broad Investment-Grade Bond Index, track and measure corporate bond portfolio performance.
What Is the Bond Market and How Does It Work? The bond market refers broadly to the buying and selling of various debt instruments issued by a variety of entities.
Bond Market
John is asking, “Can you please explain the relationship between interest rate changes and the NAV of bond mutual funds?”.
Actually a great one to start off with because it’s a very key concept for investors in fixed income funds or bond funds.
So as yields decline, bond prices will increase, and vice versa, as yields increase, bond prices will fall.
Liz Tammaro: Okay and so actually while we are talking about some of the basics here we’re going to go to a second question, which is, since bond prices decrease as rates rise, which we’ve established, why would anyone be buying bonds in the anticipation of a Fed rate increase? Chuck, you’re a financial advisor, what do you think about that question?
What I’ve been reminding investors a lot about is the fact that the reason that you hold bonds in a portfolio, and really the whole reason, primary reason for holding bonds in your portfolio is that they provide the protection in your portfolio from the volatility of stocks.
If you look at the two there’s no comparison in terms of the volatility, even in anticipation that rates are going to rise and bond values are going to fall.
There’s a chart that we have that I use with clients called a bear market chart that compares the bear markets of the bond market versus the stocks.
Bond Market
The bond market is a financial market where participants can issue new debt, known as the primary market, or buy and sell debt securities, known as the secondary market.
The bond market has largely been dominated by the United States, which accounts for about 39% of the market.
Nearly all of the average daily trading in the U.S. bond market takes place between broker-dealers and large institutions in a decentralized over-the-counter market.
Bond trading prices and volumes are reported on Financial Industry Regulatory Authority’s Trade Reporting and Compliance Engine, or TRACE. An important part of the bond market is the government bond market, because of its size and liquidity.
Because of the inverse relationship between bond valuation and interest rates, the bond market is often used to indicate changes in interest rates or the shape of the yield curve, the measure of “Cost of funding”.
The Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association classifies the broader bond market into five specific bond markets.
This is the fundamental concept of bond market volatility-changes in bond prices are inverse to changes in interest rates.
Third Way
Each bond has three key components: The loan amount, the rate of return the purchaser of the bond will receive, and the date when the bond issuer will return the full amount of the bond to the investor.
There is a key difference between how stocks and bonds are traded on secondary markets: stocks are traded on exchanges while bonds are traded over the counter.
As financial blogger Felix Salmon explains, “If you want to buy or sell a bond on the secondary market, there’s really only one way to do it: phone a bunch of , ask them to make you a market, and either accept the best price you find, or don’t.”10.
Treasury bonds are mostly traded on electronic platforms, but most other bonds are still traded over the counter, and there remains a lack of liquidity and transparency in secondary bond markets compared to stock markets.
Not only do dealers have plenty of bonds readily available to sell, but they also have the balance sheet space to purchase lots of bonds from investors if they don’t have a buyer already lined up-making it easy for other investors to sell quickly, even in large blocks.
Will there be enough capacity in secondary markets to buy all of the bonds being sold? The worry is that secondary markets don’t have the capacity to handle so many investors wanting to sell bonds at the same time-that there aren’t enough institutions capable of buying when everyone is selling.
As Felix Salmon explains, “Over time, those extra trillions of dollars are going to find their way into the pockets of bond investors. It’s never nice to see rates rise, but once they’ve risen, the extra yield will surely be very welcome to savers. And for the time being, at least, borrowing costs are not really a problem for most issuers with market access. If companies have to pay an extra 50 basis points to borrow money, so be it-they’ll live.”17.
An Introduction To Investing In The Bond Market
The bond market is a safe harbor when the stock market starts going pear shaped, or just feels a bit wobbly.
A bond note is paid off over a period of years called its “Term to maturity.” At the end of this period the bond is considered mature and the borrower has to pay back the full value of the loan, typically the face value of the bond.
When you buy a Treasury bond from the United States government you have participated in the primary bond market.
The secondary bond market is where investors swap bonds among themselves.
You could either hold this bond for two decades or you could sell the bond to another investor.
Prices on the secondary bond market often reflect the perception of the stock market.
Do you know how bonds can affect your investment risk tolerance? How much will their value grow over time? What kind of bite will taxes and inflation take out of your investment? SmartAsset’s investing guide can remove some of the mystery from bond investing.

Heat-resistant alloys are often used to develop the engines and includes: titanium alloys, nickel alloys and nonmetal composite materials like ceramics, reports Standridge.
Titanium alloys, nickel alloys and nonmetal composite materials are similarly difficult to mend and mold without losing structural integrity.
Two specific alloys that have been around since the ’70s, titanium aluminide and aluminum lithium, are gaining popularity in the aerospace industry for their ability to withstand both high temperatures and improve the thrust-to-weight ratio in aircraft engines, as the two materials weigh half what traditional nickel alloys weigh.
According to Polymer Technologies, composite materials are lightweight, which enables manufacturers to build aircraft that are more fuel-efficient and ultimately safer for passengers.
“Every pound on a plane-from passengers and luggage to airplane parts-equates to about $10,000 in fuel costs every year. Private Equity Definition: How Does It Work?
Private equity is composed of funds and investors that directly invest in private companies, or that engage in buyouts of public companies, resulting in the delisting of public equity.
Advantages of Private Equity Private equity offers several advantages to companies and startups.
Disadvantages of Private Equity Private equity has unique challenges.
In the years since the financial crisis, private credit funds have accounted for an increasing share of business at private equity firms.
Leveraged Buyouts: This is the most popular form of private equity funding and involves buying out a company completely with the intention of improving its business and financial health and reselling it for a profit to an interested party or conducting an IPO. Up until 2004, sale of non-core business units of publicly listed companies comprised the largest category of leveraged buyouts for private equity.
Real estate funds require higher minimum capital for investment as compared to other funding categories in private equity.
Beginning in 2015, a call was issued for more transparency in the private equity industry due largely to the amount of income, earnings, and sky-high salaries earned by employees at nearly all private equity firms.
Private Equity
Private equity typically refers to investment funds, generally organized as limited partnerships, that buy and restructure companies.
Real estate: in the context of private equity this will typically refer to the riskier end of the investment spectrum including “Value-added” and opportunity funds where the investments often more closely resemble leveraged buyouts than traditional real estate investments.
With the increased availability and scope of funding provided by private markets, many companies are staying private simply because they can.
Today pension investment in private equity accounts for more than a third of all monies allocated to the asset class, ahead of other institutional investors such as insurance companies, endowments, and sovereign wealth funds.
The private-equity secondary market refers to the buying and selling of pre-existing investor commitments to private equity and other alternative investment funds.

How Private Equity Is Changing The Rental Market
A new report from ProPublica dives into the role of private equity in the multifamily rental market.
The report reveals the growing proportion of private equity-owned apartment buildings as well as how tenants are being affected by changes in ownership.
Heather Vogell: Yeah, so these are firms that have private equity backing them.
He learns it’s being bought by one of these private equity firms, and all of a sudden, the trash stops getting collected and piles up.
What’s behind this increase in private equity firms getting into the real estate, the landlord business?
Vogell: Well, what we found was that government-backed financers, like Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, were really fueling this increase in private equity ownership of apartment buildings because they were offering a type of financing that was very attractive to these firms.
We obtained some data from Freddie that showed that of the 20 biggest deals that Freddie had ever done in the multifamily sphere, that 85% of them were done with private equity firms.
Private Equity Takes Aim At Disability Services
A new report is raising questions about the implications of investment by private equity firms in behavioral services providers.
Private equity firms are increasingly investing in services for young people with autism, intellectual and developmental disabilities with potentially troubling consequences, a new report warns.
In addition to disability services, private equity is taking over programs catering to youth in foster care, the juvenile justice system and troubled teen programs, according to an analysis by the Private Equity Stakeholder Project, a nonprofit that works to shine a light on the industry.
Private equity has a track record of reducing staff, using unlicensed staff, providing inadequate training, low pay, overlooking maintenance and other cost-cutting measures that can lead to abuse and unsafe conditions, the report says, citing cases where youth were left in “Horrific conditions” while private equity owners raked in profits.
The Private Equity Stakeholder Project notes that Centerbridge Capital and the Vistria Group have taken in nearly $500 million in debt-funded dividends in just two years of owning The Mentor Network, which provides foster care as well as residential and community services to children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
“Limited regulation of youth behavioral services coupled with the private equity playbook of maximizing profit over short time horizons raises profound concerns about the increasing investment by private equity firms in the sector.”
“Because private equity investment in autism services is relatively new, little is known about what it means for quality of care,” the Private Equity Stakeholder Project found.
Private Equity: What It Is And How To Start Investing
The private equity firm that manages and invests that money via a private equity fund.
The private equity firm would put your money in a private equity fund along with money from other investors and invest the pool of money in various private equity instruments, such as buyouts or venture capital.
You can also take part in private equity investments without going through a traditional firm through private equity exchange-traded funds, or ETFs.Private equity ETFs offer exposure to publicly listed private equity companies.
This is one approach for those who want to take part in private equity but aren’t accredited investors or can’t meet the minimums required by private equity funds.
Once you contribute to a private equity fund, the private equity firm can use your contribution in a few different ways to generate profit, depending on the types of deals the firm specializes in.
As a limited partner, to see a return on your private equity investment you’ll likely need to hold it in a private equity fund for the long term, often as long as 10 years.
Private equity funds aren’t registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission, so private equity firms aren’t required to publicly disclose information about their funds.

U.S. Bureau Of Economic Analysis
A comprehensive measure of U.S. economic activity.
GDP measures the value of the final goods and services produced in the United States.
Changes in GDP are the most popular indicator of the nation’s overall economic health.

Gross Domestic Product
The sum of the gross value added in the various economic activities is known as “GDP at factor cost”.
If GDP is calculated this way it is sometimes called gross domestic income, or GDP. GDI should provide the same amount as the expenditure method described later.
GDP = compensation of employees + gross operating surplus + gross mixed income + taxes less subsidies on production and imports GDP = COE + GOS + GMI + TP & M – SP & MCompensation of employees measures the total remuneration to employees for work done.
GDP can be contrasted with gross national product or, as it is now known, gross national income.
GDP is product produced within a country’s borders; GNI is product produced by enterprises owned by a country’s citizens.
If 10% of GDP is being spent on buying hi-tech foreign arms, the number of weapons purchased is entirely governed by current exchange rates, since arms are a traded product bought on the international market.
The new formula deducted from GDP. In 2005, Med Jones, an American Economist, at the International Institute of Management, introduced the first secular Gross National Happiness Index a.k.a. Gross National Well-being framework and Index to complement GDP economics with additional seven dimensions, including environment, education, and government, work, social and health indicators.
Gross Domestic Product Definition
The GDP of a country tends to increase when the total value of goods and services that domestic producers sell to foreign countries exceeds the total value of foreign goods and services that domestic consumers buy.
Nominal GDP is divided by this deflator, yielding real GDP. Nominal GDP is usually higher than real GDP because inflation is typically a positive number.
GDP Per Capita GDP per capita is a measurement of the GDP per person in a country’s population.
Per-capita GDP is often analyzed alongside more traditional measures of GDP. Economists use this metric for insight into their own country’s domestic productivity and the productivity of other countries.
While GDP measures the economic activity within the physical borders of a country, gross national product is a measurement of the overall production of people or corporations native to a country, including those based abroad. GNP excludes domestic production by foreigners.
At the time, the preeminent system of measurement was GNP. After the Bretton Woods conference in 1944, GDP was widely adopted as the standard means for measuring national economies, although ironically, the U.S. continued to use GNP as its official measure of economic welfare until 1991, after which it switched to GDP. Beginning in the 1950s some economists and policy-makers began to question GDP. Some observed, for example, a tendency to accept GDP as an absolute indicator of a nation’s failure or success, despite its failure to account for health, happiness, equality, and other constituent factors of public welfare.
What Is a Simple Definition of GDP? Gross domestic product is a measurement that seeks to capture a country’s economic output.
Meaning, Types, Examples
The two common ways to calculate gross domestic product are nominal and real.
The gross domestic product is a crucial aspect in establishing the gross national income.
Gross domestic product is not the same as the gross national product, which refers to all the final production from the resources owned by the residents of a country.
Countries worldwide follow the international standard set by the European Commission, International Monetary Fund, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, the World Bank, and the United Nations to compute their gross domestic product.
A country with a higher gross domestic product will have a higher living standard.
Frequently Asked Questions What GDP means? GDP or gross domestic product is the total worth of products and services produced within a country over a given accounting period.

Chevrolet Series AB National
The Chevrolet Series AB National is an American vehicle manufactured by Chevrolet in 1928 to replace the 1927 Series AA Capitol.
Documented production numbers show that 1,193,212 Series ABs were manufactured in a variety of body styles with 69,217 originating from the Oshawa factory alone.
Chevrolet instituted serial number recorded on the front seat heel board on either the left or right side, using the listed numbers to designate the point of origin of the vehicle identified.
Looking very similar to the 1927 Series AA Capitol, the wheelbase of the Series AB was increased by four inches to 107 in.
It was the last Chevrolet to use a four-cylinder engine until 1961 and the Chevrolet Chevy II / Nova.
The Series AB was powered by Chevrolet’s old 171 cu in four-cylinder engine, but with minor modifications to produce 35 hp at 2,200 rpm.
In May of 1925 the Chevrolet Export Boxing plant at Bloomfield, New Jersey was repurposed from a previous owner where Knock-down kits for Chevrolet, Oakland, Oldsmobile, Buick and Cadillac passenger cars, and both Chevrolet and G. M. C. truck parts are crated and shipped by railroad to the docks at Weehawken, New Jersey for overseas GM assembly factories.
1928 Chevrolet Series AB National Custom
The 1928 Chevrolet Series AB National is actually one of the most important models ever made by the iconic American manufacturer – primarily because it was the year the Ford Model T was discontinued and replaced by the Ford Model A. Chevrolet used this change-over period to pull an automotive coup d’etat and take Ford’s crown as the largest-selling automaker in America.
As 1928 started out, Chevrolet introduced the Series AB National as an updated version of their 1927 Series AA Capitol.
The two cars were very similar, though the new ’28 model had a 4 inch longer wheelbase and updated styling.
Initially the new Series AB National used the same 35hp, 2.8 litre inline-4 as the outgoing AA Capitol, but towards the end of the year the new 50hp inline-6 was introduced with its updraft carburettor, and a new higher top speed – which did nothing to hurt sales.
So he cleaned it up and put it all back together, with a new 12 volt electrical system.
Overall the bodywork was in quite poor condition, so René took stock of what he had and decided to repair what he could, and make a new set of front and side aprons, a new hood, step boards, A-pillars, and rear fenders.
Since completing the Series AB National back to ’50s specification it’s now used as a daily driver, the plan is to keep it exactly as it is and not veer off too far into hot rod territory with Flathead V8 swaps or anything too garish.
1928 Chevrolet National For Sale: Series AB Coach
This great old Chevrolet National was first sold August of 1928 by Bauer Chevrolet in American Falls Idaho.
In 1969 Bauer Chevrolet purchased it back from original owner and they completed a nut and bolt restoration and displayed it in their showroom until 1990 when the dealership closed.
This is a rust free Chevy National with fresh paint in the stock colors, clean and detailed on the undercarriage, the cylinder head was resurfaced with a valve job and all new gaskets.
Has new professionally installed LeBaron Bonney upholstery and all new stock glass run channels and windshield seals.

25-Years-Owned 1928 Chevrolet National Touring For Sale On BaT Auctions
This 1928 Chevrolet Series AB National is a touring model that was acquired by the seller in 1995 following a refurbishment that is said to have been completed approximately five years prior.
The car is finished in light blue with black fenders and running boards over a black leather interior, and a replacement wood-framed black convertible top covers both rows of seating.
Power is supplied by a 171ci inline-four fitted paired with a three-speed manual transmission, while mechanical modifications include a solid-state ignition system, an aftermarket carburetor which is fed by a six-volt fuel pump, and a four-blade cooling fan from a 1928 Chevrolet truck.
The Briggs touring body was reportedly rebuilt with new wood and repainted in blue with black bumpers, fenders, and running boards during the refurbishment completed around 1990 for the seller’s father.
A wooden running-board storage gate and 1928 Idaho license plates are included in the sale.
A solid-state ignition system reportedly is installed within the factory distributor cap, and a four-blade fan from a 1928 Chevrolet truck has also been fitted for increased cooling.
Manufacturer’s literature, repair manuals, and spare parts are included in the sale.
1928 Chevrolet Series AB National Coach Chassis No. 21AB62776
As the 1920s gave way to the ’30s, Chevrolet was on an expansionist kick.
The 1927 models had been designated “Capitol;” for 1928 this grew to “National.” A new six-cylinder car for 1929 was dubbed “International,” and for 1930, in a famous flourish, the Series AD Chevrolet became “Universal.”
As Ford finally ceased production of the increasingly antique Model T, Chevy surged ahead, its advanced specification compounding the temporary lack of competition.
Chevrolet grew four inches in 1928 and received four-wheel brakes, remaining in first place as Ford’s Model A ramped up production.
A very presentable older restoration, this 1928 Chevrolet National two-door Coach looks good in deep green paint.
The two-door Coach was the most popular body style for 1928, the nearly 347,000 built comprising 30 percent of all Chevrolet production.
Its gentle style and sophisticated overhead valve engine made it serious competition for Ford’s Model A. Although Ford regained the lead in 1929 and ’30, by 1931 Chevy was the again the market leader.

Curaleaf Has Its Target Trimmed By Beacon
Beacon Securities analyst Russell Stanley is still high on the stock but an earnings miss contributed to a lowering of his target on Curaleaf Holdings.
Stanley maintained a “Buy” rating in an update to clients on Friday while reducing his target price from C$20/share to C$18/share for a potential return of 131 per cent.
A big highlight from the quarter was the $80 million in adjusted EBITDA for a 25 per cent margin, which beat the Beacon Securities estimate of $72 million and a 23 per cent margin as well as the $77 million projection set out by the consensus.
The company’s revenue came in at $320 million, which was in line with the $321 million estimate set out by Beacon Securities and the $323 million consensus estimate, while also representing one per cent sequential growth and a 39 per cent year-over-year increase.
In terms of 2022 guidance, CuraLeaf indicated a revenue range between $1.4 billion and $1.5 billion to imply year-over-year growth of 20 per cent, while also assuming the company’s acquisition of Tryke will be closed by October 1.
Stanley also pointed to Florida as a market where CuraLeaf has further planted its roots, growing to become the third-largest retail footprint with 44 dispensaries, and moving to second in market share with sales of flower moving to 16 per cent and oil-based sales growing to 15 per cent, based on last week’s volumes.
After ending 2021 with $298 million and a 25 per cent margin, Stanley believes the company’s adjusted EBITDA margin will get wider, jumping to $398 million and a 27 per cent margin in 2022, then expanding again to $712 million and a 33 per cent margin in 2023.

Curaleaf Holdings, Inc. is an American cannabis company, listed on the Canadian stock exchange.
The company is headquartered in Wakefield, Massachusetts, and is the world’s largest cannabis company by revenue.
The company name was changed to Curaleaf in 2018, just prior to going public on Toronto’s Canadian Securities Exchange under the symbol CURA. It also raised $400 million in what was considered the largest stock offering in cannabis industry history.
Curaleaf has made several acquisitions in the cannabis industry.
In 2020, Curaleaf became the world’s largest cannabis company by revenue after the purchase of its Chicago-based competitor Grassroots Cannabis.
The acquisition gives Curaleaf cultivation, EU GMP-certified processing, distribution, and R&D operations in several key European cannabis markets, including the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Spain and Portugal.
In September 2021, an Oregon subsidiary of the company, Cura Cannabis, mistakenly distributed tinctures with THC that were mislabeled as containing only CBD. This led to a recall by The Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission.
Israel Set To Decriminalize Rec Cannabis As More Marijuana Businesses Join The Emerging Market
Israel has been long dominated the cannabis industry in terms of breakthrough research and an emerging marketplace.
International operator IM Cannabis announced several Israeli market acquisitions in late July, totaling $3.7 million in further investments into the country.
In early July, Curaleaf Holdings Inc exported more than one metric ton of medical cannabis to Israel as part of a larger supply deal with BOL Pharma.
Major U.S. cannabis brand Cookies also got involved last April through a production deal with Israeli brand InterCure Ltd., which is doing business as Canndoc, which recently signed a definitive agreement to acquire Cann Pharmaceutical Ltd., also known as Better, for $35 million.
Canadian cannabis companies The Flowr Corporation and Aurora Cannabis kicked off 2022 with the completion of medical cannabis shipments to Israel.
Flowr’s first shipment of $825,000 worth of weed was a part of a previously announced international supply deal with Focus Medical Herbs Ltd., which has a supply deal in Israel with IM Cannabis.
In February, a clinical trial conducted by Soroka University Medical Center and Israeli medical cannabis company Cannbit-Tikun Olam showed promising results, especially for treating post-traumatic stress disorder.
Why Curaleaf Holdings Stock Is Cratering Today
Shares of the multi-state operator and American cannabis company Curaleaf Holdings are down by a hefty 10.9% as of 2:18 p.m. ET Tuesday afternoon.
Curaleaf’s shares have been cratering over the past few trading sessions due to a false social media narrative suggesting that the company’s executives might be subject to U.S. government sanctions stemming from the Russian-Ukranian conflict.
Curaleaf recently addressed this narrative via a press release.
Specifically, the company stated that, “The speculation on social media that the Company and its major shareholders and executives will somehow be subject to any U.S. government economic sanctions now or in the future is incorrect.” Curaleaf has lost nearly a quarter of its value over the past week due to these stubbornly persistent social media rumors.
Is Curaleaf stock worth buying on this steep decline? The answer appears to be a resounding yes.
At last count, Curaleaf was the largest U.S. MSO by revenue, although Trulieve may have closed the gap in recent months.
Curaleaf ought to have the critical mass necessary to outlast the sea of competitors vying to become a viable player in the high-growth cannabis market.

There’s no upkeep, no fuss, no muss, and these are some of the most straightforward passive income ideas to implement.
Passive income, semi-passive income, side hustles, and now residual income?! It may seem like splitting hairs, but there is a difference between passive income and residual income.
People at the top of this food chain earn residual income via the people underneath them in their “Line.” The folks at the top aren’t selling themselves yet are making income from those underneath them.

Water Softening
“Hard water is what causes the white scale buildup on my pots,” or “Soft water doesn’t leave a detergent film on my fresh-washed clothes or fixtures.” Some might even contend that soft water makes their skin smoother and hair more silky and manageable.
An understanding of the chemistry of hard and soft water and the treatment process used to produce softer water can help you answer the question, “Do I need to soften my water?”.
Since the level of calcium carbonate means little to water consumers, water specialists have classified levels of hardness.
Because water softening devices have long been available in the water treatment industry, the technology is highly developed and in most cases works well to reduce the hardness level.
As the water treatment industry has grown in the U.S., the concept of water softening has often been misconstrued as a purifying, cleansing or conditioning process.
Depending on the water source, you may have to filter turbid water or disinfect bacteria-laden water-all before it even reaches the softening unit.
If after weighing the advantages and disadvantages of water softening, you decide to soften your water, the next question you must consider is “How much?” Have the water tested by an independent lab and determine its classification from Table 1.
Water Softening
Water softening is the removal of calcium, magnesium, and certain other metal cations in hard water.
Water softening is usually achieved using lime softening or ion-exchange resins but is increasingly being accomplished using nanofiltration or reverse osmosis membranes.
The slippery feeling associated with washing in soft water is caused by the weaker attraction of the soap to the water ions when the water has been stripped of its mineral content.
Water is directed through a jet pump, which pulls salt water from the brine tank, before the water and brine pass through the resin bed in the normal direction, if co-current, or in the reverse direction, if counter-current.
Removing or replacing minerals in hard water is called water softening.
An alternative water treatment is called water conditioning, in which minerals remain in the water, but are altered so they do not form scale.
The disadvantages include that the calcite crystals are not avoided or removed from the water such that areas where water evaporates will still show deposits.
The 7 Best Water Softeners Of 2022
A quality water softener removes calcium, magnesium, and other minerals that cause hard water-which can damage appliances, dry out hair and skin, and leave buildup on the surfaces in your kitchen and bathroom-from your water supply.
Our best overall pick, the GE GXSH40V Water Softener, has a high grain capacity, digital controller, and the ability to optimize its regeneration schedule during periods of peak water usage.
Here are the best water softeners for every type of household.
The GE GXSH40V Water Softener is our top pick as a water softener for average-size households.
Type There are three types of water softeners: salt-based softeners, salt-free water conditioners, and electromagnetic conditioners.
Capacity generally ranges from about 28,000 grains for small water softeners to 80,000 grains for heavy-duty softener systems.
A bypass valve is also sometimes useful when using a volume of water where water hardness is not an issue.
Lesson 10: Softening
Note the water softening industry measures hardness in grains per gallon.
Softening of hard water is desired to reduce the amount of soap used, increase the life of water heaters, and reduce encrustation of pipes.
Depending on the type of softening process used, softening may also aid in other water treatment processes.
Lime softening of hard water supersaturates the water with calcium carbonate, and it may have a pH of greater than 10.
These four water characteristics should be monitored carefully when softening water using lime.
As with lime-soda ash softening, ion exchange softening can be problematic when dealing with surface water with changing water characteristics.
The lime-soda ash water softening process uses lime2), and soda ash, to precipitate hardness from solution.
Top 12 Best Water Softener Systems🥇(2021 Review)
At the cost of sounding politically correct, all the water softeners that you see in this water softener review are the best-performing ones.
It may not be as powerful as some of the other softener systems you see in this water softener review article, but the Watts Water M7002 is a clear winner when it comes to compactness.
Starting with the best feature that the Aquios Water Softener has to offer, it comes as an all-in-one system that not only softens your water but also filters it, eliminates the scale and delivers the clean water to your faucets without any pressure loss.
Put simply, it contains a water softener and water filter – the first of which softens water whereas the water filter helps remove sediments.
At the cost of sounding biased, not many water softeners in this water softener review article can compete with the Whirlpool WHES30E when it comes to its features.
ABC Waters Built Fleck 5600SXT. If you came in search of a high-quality, fair budget water softener – one that has enough flow rate to supply your entire household with clean water, this might exactly be the water softener for you.
In contrast to their water filtration counterparts, water softening systems measure their capacity in grains – which is measured by multiplying the flow rate of the system with the water requirements of your home.
A water softening experiment was conducted in replicate to observe the changes in parameters such as total hardness, calcium hardness, magnesium hardness, alkalinity and pH with varying dosages of lime.
For a lime dosage beyond 120%, the total hardness, alkalinity, and calcium hardness concentrations increased while magnesium hardness concentration decreased to lower values.
If the magnesium noncarbonate hardness and lime are expressed as CaCO3 , stoichiometric ratios suggest that for each mg/L of magnesium noncarbonate hardness present, 1 mg/L of lime expressed as CaCO3 will be needed for its removal.

What Is Material Handling?
Material Handling is the process of moving goods and materials short distances within a building, factory, facility, or warehouse.
Material handling includes a wide range of different types of materials, ranging from tiny boxes to large and heavy components for manufacturing.
To conduct this process of material handling, there is a wide range of material handling equipment.
“Material handling is the movement, protection, storage and control of materials and products throughout manufacturing, warehousing, distribution, consumption, and disposal. As a process, material handling incorporates a wide range of manual, semi-automated and automated equipment and systems that support logistics and make the supply chain work.”
The role of material handling plays is significant and has become a topic of discussion, in particular amongst manufacturing companies.
Every type of product that has been manufactured or produced has been involved in a material handling sequence of some sort.
Many large manufacturing companies invest millions of dollars every year to ensure that there material handling processes and flows are up to date and efficient.
Material Handling
Material handling can be used to create time and place utility through the handling, storage, and control of waste, as distinct from manufacturing, which creates form utility by changing the shape, form, and makeup of material.
While material handling is usually required as part of every production worker’s job, over 650,000 people in the U.S. work as dedicated “Material moving machine operators” and have a median annual wage of $31,530.
These operators use material handling equipment to transport various goods in a variety of industrial settings including moving construction materials around building sites or moving goods onto ships.
Material handling is integral to the design of most production systems since the efficient flow of material between the activities of a production system is heavily dependent on the arrangement of the activities.
The high cost of using an industrial truck for material transport is due to both the labor costs of the operator and the negative impact on the performance of a production system when multiple units of material are combined into a single transfer batch in order to reduce the number of trips required for transport.
Advantages of unit loads are that more items can be handled at the same time and that it enables the use of standardized material handling equipment.
The practical size of a unit load may be limited by the equipment and aisle space available and the need for safe material handling.
What Is Material Handling? Definition + How To Optimize
In this article, we’ll cover what material handling is, why it’s one of the keys of effective warehouse management, and review basic principles, equipment, methods, and how OptimoRoute can help you optimize your entire logistics journey.

The past month has seen a sharp rise in the Brazilian Real, Australian dollar, and Canadian dollar compared to the Euro.
While the U.S dollar has not risen nearly as much as more substantial commodity exporters such as Latin America, the strong dollar may have more significant global financial consequences.
At any rate, if the U.S dollar rises above its crucial resistance level, then we could see an even more dramatic U.S dollar shortage.
As these countries race to obtain dollars to avoid being forced to pay more, the dollar could rise dramatically high.
Fortunately for the U.S Federal Reserve, a rise in U.S dollar exchange rates may also mitigate the immense inflationary pressures from the commodity shock.
The U.S dollar index has risen by around 5% over recent weeks and, being at a key resistance level, is likely to either stop growing or accelerate much higher.
Even still, all investors, regardless of their interest in betting on the dollar specifically, would benefit from keeping an eye on the U.S dollar index ETF UUP as it will give us a strong indication of what to expect in the other asset classes.

Products Made By Indium Corporation
Thermal Interface Materials The dissipation of heat is the key to maintaining longevity and reliability of semiconductor and power devices.
Indium Corporation is a leader in the development of both solder and metal-based thermal interface materials for a wide variety of applications.
Yesterday, in Part 2 of our interview, Miloš mentioned how using a hybrid solid/liquid TIM provides benefits over thermal grease.
In the lab, Miloš has been experimenting with / creating some of our next-generation liquid-solid hybrid metal materials.
Let’s find out what drives his pursuit of the ultimate Thermal Interface Material.
Features & Benefits All of our thermal interface materials are metal-based, which means they have a very high conductivity as compared to polymer-based thermal interface materials.
Indium metal, for example, has a conductivity of 86W/mK and is 4 times softer than lead. Its ductility and thermal conductivity make it ideal as a compressible thermal interface material.
Custom Thermal Interface Materials
Successful thermal management of high-power electronic components with high heat dissipation ratings requires careful design engineering.
Thermal interface materials bridge the interface between hot components and a chassis or heat sink assembly.
Materials formulated in the lab are manufactured and inserted between parts to enhance the thermal coupling.
These gaps create thermal barriers to heat transfer due to the low thermal conductivity of air.
Heat will transfer and be removed more rapidly because of the presence of an engineered material that has significantly higher thermal conductivity than the air in the interface.
These materials can offer a unique combination of extremely high thermal conductivity and softness.
Automation Support – Through advancements in robotic motion control, users can now automate the application of all forms of thermal interface materials.
Here’S How To Choose The Right Type
Thermal greases are just what they sound like – grease-like substances specifically designed for high thermal conductivity.
This thermal interface solution is very common and accessible, making it perfect for homegrown applications or prototyping.
The grease is meant to be used on flat surfaces due to its fluid state and should be used according to the desired level of resistance between surfaces.
These materials are screened, stenciled, or dispensed and require virtually no compressive force to conform.
Slight pressure can be applied to ensure the grease saturates its intended surface, but in rough surfaces, the grease likely will not fill all gaps or holes.
An important consideration when using grease interface materials is that they aren’t particularly easy to clean up, as expected with most greases.
AIT Thermal Interface Materials

EGraf® HiTherm™ Thermal Interface Materials
eGraf® HiTherm™ thermal interface materials are designed for long-life, mission-critical applications that have extreme heat cycles, require low contact resistance, and high thermal conductivity.
HiTherm TIMs are thermal interface sheets made of flexible graphite specifically engineered for demanding solid-state lighting, computing, and power electronics applications.
Many substances can be used as thermal gap pads, including thermal grease, polymer pads, soft metals, and graphite.
HiTherm TIMs will drive out the interstitial air and replace it with low thermal impedance graphite.
Thermal impedance combines the thermal resistance at the contact surfaces and the TIM’s bulk resistance.
Compressible flexible graphite improves surface contact, reduces thermal impedance, and compensates for flatness variation between contact surfaces, while the high in-plane thermal conductivity reduces hot spots.

Thermal Interface Material
A thermal interface material is any material that is inserted between two components in order to enhance the thermal coupling between them.
Thermal paste: Mostly used in the electronics industry, it provides a very thin bond line and therefore a very small thermal resistance.
Thermal adhesive: As with the thermal paste, it provides a very thin bond line, but provides some additional mechanical strength to the bond after curing.
Thermal glue allows thicker bond line than the thermal paste, as it cures.
Thermal gap filler: It could be described as “Curing thermal paste” or “Non-adhesive thermal glue”.
Phase-change materials: Naturally sticky materials, used in place of thermal pastes.
Metal thermal interface materials: Metallic materials offer substantially higher thermal conductivity as well as the lowest thermal interface resistance.

Standby Equity Distribution Agreement
In corporate finance, a Standby Equity Distribution Agreement is a type of share allocation agreement between a company and a share purchaser.
A SEDA offers a relatively flexible way of raising capital, allowing companies to further customize their approach to capital and risk management.
In a sense, SEDA is similar to a line of credit extended by a lender, except that the financing is done not through debt but through equity.
In a SEDA contract, a publicly traded company arranges to raise additional capital by selling new stock without making a public seasoned equity offering.
If the company finds that it never needs more funds, it can elect not to sell any shares at all, or to sell only a part of the maximum.
The timing of sales is under the control of the company, so it can sell when it believes its share price is high.
The SEDA allocation increases the number of the company’s shares outstanding and its total shareholders’ equity, while diluting the equity of the existing shareholders.

Niche Capital Raising Tool Fueling Growth For Small And Mid-Cap Companies
THE SEDA: A SOLUTION The financial crisis highlights the value of a Standby Equity Distribution Agreement, which is a niche capital raising tool often used by small and mid-cap companies.
An interesting point to note is the size of companies that are employing the SEDA as a capital raising tool.
The SEDAs recent popularity across geographies, sectors and sizes of companies can most likely be attributed to its structure and the benefits that this capital raising tool offers over other means of capital raising.
THE SEDA: BACKGROUND AND STRUCTURE In the early and mid 1990s a small number of underwriters began to offer equity lines which were characterized as an exotic capital raising technique.
THE SEDA: ADVANTAGES The success of the SEDA as a capital raising tool can be attributed to the benefits it offers over other means of capital raising.
Once the fixed costs associated with implementing the SEDA are incurred, the variable costs are generally structured into the purchase price determination and tend to be lower than those associated with alternative capital raising structures because the investor often bears less risk than an underwriter would in other alternative capital raising structures.
THE SEDA: A CONCLUSION The SEDA is a simple, flexible, innovative and effective capital raising tool that serves as a method for public companies to opportunistically raise growth capital from the equity markets.

The time from when the components of the bone cement are mixed until it is not possible to further manipulate either the prosthesis or bone cement is sometimes called the ‘working time.
As bone cement has been called the ‘weak link’ in artificial joint fixation, methods to fix joint components without cement have been used for some time.26 Porous coatings on device surfaces provide a scaffold for bone to grow into the coatings and create a biological fixation, sometimes referred to as ‘bone ingrowth.
The chapter describes the two main families of bone cements, namely, acrylic bone cements and calcium phosphate bone cements.
Percentage content of gentamicin in polymer powder of various commercial PMMA acrylic bone cements and in vitro release of gentamicin from polymerised bone cement after 7 days implantation.
As there is no chemical reaction between the inorganic particles and the PMMA bone cement, it can be understood that the filler particles act like pores when a tensile stress is applied to the bone cement.
The time from when the components of the bone cement are mixed until it is not possible to further manipulate either the prosthesis or bone cement is sometimes called the “Working time.” Once the cement has cured, its job is primarily structural – to hold the device in place permanently and facilitate load transfer from the device into the remaining bone.
As bone cement has been called the “Weak link” in artificial joint fixation, methods to fix joint components without cement have been used for some time.26 Porous coatings on device surfaces provide a scaffold for bone to grow into and create a biological fixation, sometimes referred to as “Bone ingrowth.” Hence, not all artificial joints use bone cement fixation.
Bone Cement
While bone cement has become widely used for fixation of prostheses to living bone, the trends of bone cement usage have evolved.
Research has shown that adding various types of antibiotics to bone cement, in quantities less than 2 g per standard packet of bone cement, does not adversely affect some of the cement’s mechanical properties, although quantities exceeding 2 g did weaken them.9 Various antibiotics have been successfully mixed and used with bone cements like Gentamycin, Tobramycin, Erythromycin, Cefuroxime, Vancomycin, Colistin etc.
Usage and propertiesSince Charnley first began using acrylic bone cement in hip arthroplasty, there have been a number of developments in the usage and properties of bone cement.
Careful preparation of the bone cavity and bone bed with high-pressure pulse lavage and brushing is essential for achieving an effective micro-interlock between the bone and the cement.
Overall, advancements in cementing can be classified to have occurred from ‘first generation’ to ‘third generation techniques’, with changes occurring in bone bed preparation, cement preparation and cement delivery.
Pressurization of the cement was introduced to improve osseo-integration of the cement and the importance of a good cement mantle around the prosthesis was more clearly understood.
More research is needed and continues in the field of nanoparticle additives, enhanced bone cement interface and other developments in quest for improving the quality and eliminating or reducing undesired side effects of bone cement.
What Is Bone Cement And How Is It Used?
Bone cement is a tool used by our physicians to create an internal cast that stabilizes fractured vertebrae.
Methyl methacrylate is most commonly used as bone cement, but it can also be used to make resin or some plastics.
A physician mixes the powder with a liquid to create a solution called polymethyl methacrylate, which is bone cement.
The X-ray, or fluoroscope, is used so the physician can see exactly where to put the needle and how much cement to add.
The bone cement helps to stabilize the fracture so the patient can move their spine with less pain.
Bone cement is considered very safe, but there is a rare condition known as bone cement implantation syndrome.
Most cases of bone cement implantation syndrome occurred during hip surgery, not spine surgery.
Side Effects, Symptoms, & Lawsuits
Bone cement is typically used to secure hip and knee replacements to bones.
Bone cement is also linked to a potentially life-threatening condition called bone cement implantation syndrome, or BCIS. A patient who suffers from BCIS will experience side effects-like hypoxia and pulmonary embolism-almost immediately, within minutes from the cement coming in contact with the bone.
Bone cement may also be inserted directly into the bone to help repair microfractures and bone loss.
Calcium-based bone cement is used to mimic lost bone.
In joint replacement procedures, the bone cement can apply enough pressure to the bone that bone marrow, fat, and the cement can enter the bloodstream, clogging arteries.
Pressure from bone cement can cause fat, bone marrow, and even cement to leak into the bloodstream.
Some patients who undergo surgeries involving bone cement may suffer from bone cement implantation syndrome.
Bone Cement
The bone cement fills the free space between the prosthesis and the bone and plays the important role of an elastic zone.
The set time can be tailored to help the physician safely apply the bone cement into the bone bed to either anchor metal or plastic prosthetic device to bone or used alone in the spine to treat osteoporotic compression fractures.
While the individual components are not always perfectly safe as pharmaceutical additives and active substances per se, as bone cement the individual substances are either converted or fully enclosed in the cement matrix during the polymerization phase from the increase in viscosity to curing.
If the patient is known to have any allergies to constituents of the bone cement, according to current knowledge bone cement should not be used to anchor the prosthesis.
A prosthesis fixed with bone cement offers very high primary stability combined with fast remobilization of patients.
Too much active substance in the bone cement would actually be detrimental, because the mechanical stability of the fixed prosthesis is weakened by a high proportion of active substance in the cement.
The local active substance levels of industrially manufactured bone cements that are formed by the use of bone cements that contain active substances are approximate and are significantly below the clinical routine dosages for systemic single injections.
What Is Bone Cement?
Bone cement is a substance used in hip replacement surgery that acts as an adhesive to hold the artificial hip in place.
Bone cement properties consist of poly methyl methacrylate.
Surgeons also use bone cement in vertebroplasty procedures to treat osteoporosis.
Studies were funded in 2010 for human trials to explore the use of bone cement to repair head and facial injuries suffered by war veterans.
A substance that prompts bone growth can be injected into the cement and may eliminate the need for metal plates to repair fractured bones.
Non-synthetic bone cement is used by heart surgeons to close the breast bone after open heart surgery.
When bone cement is used, the sternum usually becomes completely stable after 24 hours.
Class II Special Controls Guidance Document For Industry And FDA
Class II Special Controls Guidance Document: Polymethylmethacrylate Bone Cement;Guidance for Industry and FDA. On October 14, 1999, FDA issued an order reclassifying the polymethylmethacrylate bone cement from class III into class II. This guidance document was developed as a special control guidance to support the reclassification of PMMA bone cement into class II. The device, as classified, is intended for use in arthroplastic procedures of the hip, knee, and other joints for the fixation of polymer or metallic prosthetic implants to living bone.
Following the effective date of the final rule classifying the device, any firm submitting a 510(k) premarket notification for a PMMA bone cement will need to address the issues covered in the special control guidance.
This special control guidance document identifies the classification regulations and product codes for the PMMA bone cement to which it applies.
Other sections of this special control guidance document list the risks to health identified by FDA and describe measures that, if followed by manufacturers and combined with the general controls, will generally address the risks associated with these PMMA bone cement and lead to a timely 510(k) review and clearance.
FDA believes an Abbreviated 510(k) provides the least burdensome means of demonstrating substantial equivalence for a new device, particularly once a Class II Special Controls Guidance Document has been issued.
The following is a specific discussion of how you should apply this special controls guidance document to a premarket notification for a PMMA bone cement.
FDA has determined that PMMA bone cement addressed by this guidance document is a significant risk device as defined in 21 CFR 812.3(m)(4).

DIP Switch
A DIP switch is a manual electric switch that is packaged with others in a group in a standard dual in-line package.
US patent 3,621,157 is the earliest known DIP switch patent.
The DIP switch with sliding levers was granted US patent 4012608 in 1976.
A tri-state type DIP switch can be in one of three positions which allows more codes than a binary DIP switch.
An 8 pole tri-state DIP switch offers 6,561 combinations/codes compared to an 8 pole binary switches 256 combinations/codes.
Rotary DIP switches contain multiple electrical contacts, one of which is selected by rotating the switch to align it with a number printed on the package.
2) a rotary version of a multipole slide switch where one signal has a choice between multiple connections, such as SPDT, SP3T, SP4T. The DIP switch package also has socket pins or mounting leads to provide an electrical path from the switch contacts to the circuit board.
What Is A DIP Switch?
Make sure to disconnect power before changing a DIP switch on any device.
Before you work inside of a computer, be aware of electrostatic discharge.
Not all devices, especially newer devices have DIP switches.
If you cannot find anything that resembles the above picture, look for jumpers instead of DIP switches.
What Is A DIP Switch?
DIP switch, short for dual in-line package switch, is an electrical switch that can be turned by hand.
The whole process of ac power grid input and DC output, including:Input filter: DIP switch is used to filter out the clutter existing in the power grid, but also to prevent the clutter generated by the machine feedback to the public power grid.
Rectification and filtering: the ac power supply of the power grid is directly rectified into smooth DC power for the next level transformation.
Inversion: The direct current after rectification into high frequency ALTERNATING current, which is the core part of high frequency switching power supply, the higher the frequency, the smaller the volume, weight and output power ratio.
Supply power for all the different requirements of a single circuit.
Dip switch is equivalent to a switch quantity, dial to ON means On, OFF means Off, in digital circuits to 0, 1, usually used for binary input.
In the figure above, the 8 position DIP switch is used as the input of one byte.
DIP Switches 101
DIP switches have been around since the 1970s as electromechanical devices that allow users to make manual changes to an electronic circuit.
Some DIP switches can be actuated by hand, while others require a special tool or screwdriver to toggle the switch position.
A DIP switch is a dual in-line package switch, meaning that it consists of a series of switches in a single unit.
Commonly mounted on a PCB or breadboard, DIP switches allow users to quickly preconfigure or toggle an electronic device between a variety of settings or operating modes.
Double pole, double throw switches control two circuits using two linked switches.
Normally open switches complete the circuit when actuated, while normally closed switches break the circuit when actuated.
Piano DIP switches are similar to slide DIP switches.

Brushless DC Electric Motor
A brushless DC electric motor, also known as an electronically commutated motor or synchronous DC motor, is a synchronous motor using a direct current electric power supply.
The construction of a brushless motor system is typically similar to a permanent magnet synchronous motor, but can also be a switched reluctance motor, or an induction motor.
Brushless motors fulfill many functions originally performed by brushed DC motors, but cost and control complexity prevents brushless motors from replacing brushed motors completely in the lowest-cost areas.
Brushless motors are found in electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles, personal transporters, and electric aircraft.
The most significant reason to switch to a brushless motor is the dramatic reduction in power required to operate them versus a typical AC motor.
While shaded-pole and permanent split capacitor motors once dominated as the motor of fans, many fans are now run using a brushless motor.
A brushless DC motor has a life expectancy of 10,000 hours.
Brushless DC Motors
These stepper motors are good for precise, repetitive movements, such as those made by the head of a 3D printer.
All are bipolar hybrid stepper motors, which deliver greater torque, precision, and efficiency than other types of stepper motors.
Click on a part number and select “Product Detail” to view the curve for a motor.
With a built-in controller and driver, these stepper motors come ready to program and operate.
The controller communicates to the driver which directs the motor’s shaft to move in small, equal increments.
When the shaft stops, it holds its position even when a counteracting force is applied to the load. All are bipolar hybrid stepper motors, which deliver greater torque, precision, and efficiency than other types of stepper motors.
The greater the flexibility you have for determining the size of the motor’s step.
RapidPower™ Xtreme Brushless DC Servo Motor
ElectroCraft RPX motors are very compact, highly controllable motors with class-leading torque per frame size performance.
Highly energy efficient and ideal for embedded applications.
Exquisitely efficient small form factor BLDC motor that has peak operating efficiency at low RPM allowing custom integrated with a planetary gearbox.
High torque from a small form factor, with low power consumption and peak performance at low RPM for quiet operation.
ElectroCraft RapidPower BLDC motors are high-performance motors.
ElectroCraft RapidPower Plus™ motors provide a similar-sized standard BLDC motor with a cost advantage.
How Does A Brushless Electric Motor Work?
The article How Electric Motors Work explains how brushed motors work.
Having the electromagnet in the center of the motor makes it harder to cool.
With the advent of cheap computers and power transistors, it became possible to “Turn the motor inside out” and eliminate the brushes.
In a brushless DC motor, you put the permanent magnets on the rotor and you move the electromagnets to the stator.
Because a computer controls the motor instead of mechanical brushes, it’s more precise.
The computer can also factor the speed of the motor into the equation.
The only disadvantage of a brushless motor is its higher initial cost, but you can often recover that cost through the greater efficiency over the life of the motor.

“Although the mining industry has had its trials and tribulations, the sector is in a much healthier place. For Olsen, he has overseen Boart Longyear’s rise in tandem with the mining space and the firm is now poised to thrive in the industry. However, Olsen can’t forget the past and reflects on how his organization has got to where it is today.”Mining is a secular industry and if you’re a supplier to the industry then you’re in a hyper secular industry,” discusses Olsen.
“One of the areas that they could save money on was drilling in the short-term. It is fundamental in the mining industry that if you don’t drill then you don’t have anything to mine. That can only last for so long.”
“GDS consists of tools that are used to gather appropriate information downhole about the hole itself and about the drilling. Palm Branch
A palm branch was awarded to victorious athletes in ancient Greece, and a palm frond or the tree itself is one of the most common attributes of Victory personified in ancient Rome.
In Christianity, the palm branch is associated with Jesus’ Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem, celebrated on Palm Sunday, when the Gospel of John says of the citizens, “They took palm branches and went out to meet Him”.
From 400 BC onward, a palm branch was awarded to the victor in athletic contests, and the practice was brought to Rome around 293 BC. The palm became so closely associated with victory in ancient Roman culture that the Latin word palma could be used as a metonym for “Victory”, and was a sign of any kind of victory.
The palm branch or tree became a regular attribute of the goddess Victory, and when Julius Caesar secured his rise to sole power with a victory at Pharsalus, a palm tree was supposed to have sprung up miraculously at the Temple of Nike, the Greek counterpart of Victory, in Tralles, later known as Caesarea, in Asia Minor.
Early Christians used the palm branch to symbolize the victory of the faithful over enemies of the soul, as in the Palm Sunday festival celebrating the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem.
Muhammad is said to have built his home out of palm, to have leaned against a palm while speaking, and to have raised the first mosque as a roof placed on palm trees.
The palm branch symbol is included in MUFI: ⸙. In Arabic, the term Fog al-Nakhal, which literally translates to “Above the palm trees”, is an idiom used to indicate euphoria, satisfaction or strong happiness.
The Significance Of A Palm Branch
This is because a palm branch is the most significant symbol during Palm Sunday.
In history, the palm branch also symbolizes an eminent incident in the life of Jesus Christ that forever changed the world.
On Palm Sunday, palm branches signify the victory and triumph Jesus has over death.
Palm Branch: A Mark of Triumph Traditionally, these special palm branches carried on Palm Sunday are a symbol of the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem.
Death has lost its sting when Jesus rose again with victor’s crown on His head. We celebrate this success with every Palm Sunday where palm branches remind us of this victory like a token of triumph.
One of Israel’s judges, Deborah conducted court meetings under the shade of Palm branches, and King Solomon had carved the walls of the temple, both inner and outer sanctuaries with figures of palm trees, cherubim, and open flowers.
Interestingly, history has recognized Jericho as the city of palm trees for it has the finest palm branches.
Palm Branch Meaning And Symbolism
One ancient story involving palm branches that many people still know today is the story that became Palm Sunday in the Christian religion.
Palm branches were already well known as a symbol of victory in Greek and Roman culture.
Christianity developed amidst Greek and Roman culture, where the association of palm branches with victory was already strong.
Many early Christians also started out as Jewish, and Christian.net notes that palm branches were used in Jewish observances such as the Feast of Tabernacles, which celebrated freedom from those who had enslaved the Jewish people in the past.
Nike became Victoria, closer to our current word “Victory.” She kept her palm branch.
Palm Sunday is therefore included in the Christian observances leading up to Easter, and some Christian churches today use real palm branches in their celebration of Palm Sunday.
The palm branches now signify the victory of Jesus over death.

Oceania Cruises’ 2024 World Voyage, 180 Days, Sells Out In Minutes
In conjunction with the world cruise on Insignia, the company also announced four new 72- to 82-day grand voyages in the Asia-Pacific region aboard Regatta, Nautica and Riviera.
The sell-out of the six-month world cruise and the response to the four Asia-Pacific voyages resulted in a new single-day booking record that surpassed the previous record set in September 2021 by almost 12%. ‘The response to our 2024 world cruise and the new grand voyages clearly illustrates the resiliency, enthusiasm and passion that drive our guests to travel the world,’ said Howard Sherman, president and CEO of Oceania Cruises.
While world cruises typically attract legions of loyal customers, Oceania Cruises’ 2024 world cruise saw almost half of all bookings come from new-to-brand guests, and 42% of the those sailing on the current 2022 world voyage rebooked for the 2024 voyage.
The line said this furthers a booking trend steadily emerging during the past year with some booking periods and promotions recording new-to-brand booking levels of more than 50%. Additionally, 18% of 2024 world cruisers opted to extend their voyage to 196 days.
The line further reported ‘exceptional demand’ for its 2023 Europe and North America collection of voyages with bookings on longer, grand cruises that span multiple weeks or months, going from strength to strength.
To satisfy demand for booking further out, the line will be opening a full year of voyages spanning from October 2023 to December 2024 on May 4.
‘The vast majority of bookings were made via our valued travel partners and this launch would not have achieved the record-setting success without the support of travel advisors across the globe,’ said Nikki Upshaw, svp sales.
Regatta Becomes The Fourth Ship To Resume Service For Oceania
A fourth ship is resuming service for Oceania Cruises today, as the Regatta welcomes guests back for a ten-night South Pacific cruise.
Sailing roundtrip from the Tahitian port of Papeete, the French Polynesia itinerary features calls in six different destinations such as Raiatea, Nuku Hiva and Bora Bora – where the ship is set to spend an entire night anchored.
A R-Class ship, the Regatta originally entered service in 1998.
Among the 30,200-ton ship highlights is its extensive culinary offer that includes two specialty restaurants, the Italian Toscana and the steakhouse Polo Grill, in addition to a richly decorated main dining room, a self-service buffet and more dining venues.
After a 524-day operational pause, Oceania Cruises resumed guest service in August 2021.
In December, the ship kicked off a reviewed version of Oceania’s traditional “Around the World in 180 Days” voyage.
On Mar. 29, the Sirena is set to become the fifth ship to resume service for the brand, offering a transatlantic crossing to Europe.
Oceania Cruises Floats Out New Cruise Ship ‘Vista’
One of our favorite luxury cruise brands has a brand new ship to enjoy! Oceania Cruises floated their new ship Vista out from Fincantieri shipyard in Sestri Ponente, Italy over the weekend and all indicators are it was a smashing success.
On hand for the float out ceremony were Howard Sherman, President and CEO of Oceania Cruises, Giuseppe Torrente, Shipyard Director for Fincantieri; and His Excellency Monsignor Tasca, Archbishop of Genoa.
“Vista is Oceania Cruises’ most anticipated ship in the history of our company, and I am thrilled to be here with our partners from Fincantieri as the ship morphs from blueprints and steel into reality. Vista is truly a ship of dreams, and we cannot wait to welcome her inaugural season guests next year,” said Sherman.
Vista will sail her maiden voyage from Rome to Barcelona on April 14, 2023, followed by twelve additional European voyages prior to commencing sailings from the United States to the Canadian Maritimes and New England, the Panama Canal, and the Caribbean.

Matteo Renzi
Renzi held several days of talks with party leaders, all of which he broadcast live on the internet, before unveiling the Renzi Cabinet on 21 February, which contained members of the PD, the New Centre-Right, the Union of the Centre, and the Civic Choice.
Although Renzi had expressed support for the amendment, the decision came after the Five Star Movement backed out of an agreement to pass it; moreover, the amendment was opposed by the NCD. Renzi stated that the bill’s passage through the Senate was a “Victory for love”, although he expressed disappointment that the stepchild provision was not also adopted, and raised the possibility of introducing it in a separate bill at a later date.
Renzi forged a positive relationship with Japanese prime minister Shinzō Abe, who praised the economic policies of the Renzi government.
On the same day, Renzi also met Blair, the former British prime minister whom Renzi had previously called a political inspiration to him.
On 11 December, Renzi travelled to Ankara for a second meeting with Erdoğan, during which Renzi expressed his support for accession of Turkey to the European Union.
After a few days, Renzi threatened to pull back IV’s two ministers, Teresa Bellanova and Elena Bonetti, from the upcoming Council of Ministers, summoned to approve the Next Generation EU. During a press conference on 13 January, Renzi announced the resignation of IV’s ministers Bellanova and Bonetti, officially opening the 2021 Italian government crisis.
In the 2022 Italian presidential election, Renzi supported candidate Pier Ferdinando Casini, a centrist close to the centre-right, having qualms about the precedent of re-electing the incumbent president Mattarella; after Casini failed to gain support and rejecting the candidature of Elisabetta Belloni, the head of secret services, which he criticized as “Only [happening] in an anti-democratic country”, Renzi joined the governing parties in asking Mattarella to accept a second term.

Matteo Renzi
Italy’S Matteo Renzi Charged With Illegal Party Financing – POLITICO
ROME – Prosecutors in Italy have formally charged former Prime Minister Matteo Renzi with illegal financing of a political party.
Florence prosecutors say that Renzi should stand trial after an investigation into alleged irregularities in the funding of Open, a foundation that helped finance Renzi’s rise from mayor of Florence to the country’s premier and leader of the leftist Democratic Party.
Among the alleged crimes are illegal party financing, corruption, money laundering and trafficking of influence.
According to prosecutors, Open acted as if it was part of the Democratic Party and received €3.5 million in funding, which was spent on supporting the political activities of Renzi and his allies.
A preliminary hearing will be held on April 4, when an investigating judge will decide whether the trial should go ahead. Renzi has always said that Open is a foundation rather than a party, so there can be no illegal party financing.
“Now Italians will be able to see how weak the accusations are and how scandalous are the methods used by the Florence prosecutors.”
Renzi said he had filed a criminal complaint against three of the prosecutors, noting that one had previously and unsuccessfully tried to prosecute his family, adding: “I have not committed any crimes, I hope that the Florentine prosecutors can say the same.”
Italy’S Renzi Completes Transformation From Reformer To Wrecker
On Wednesday Renzi pulled his tiny centrist party Italia Viva from the coalition, unseating Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte’s government and throwing Italy into political chaos in the midst of a resurgent coronavirus emergency.
Italy’s draft “Recovery Plan” offered too little for the health service, culture, and infrastructure, Renzi said, and it was to be overseen by a group of unelected experts which he argued was an insult to parliament.
Seven years on, after bruising political defeats saw him quit first as prime minister and then as PD leader, his Italia Viva party, formed in 2019, now polls at less than 3%.”In all our surveys on politicians’ personal approval ratings, Renzi comes bottom,” said YouTrend’s Pregliasco.
Renzi became prime minister in 2014 by overthrowing a broad-based government led by his PD party colleague Enrico Letta, backtracking on previous pledges that he would only come to power in an election.
One of these, former Prime Minister Massimo D’Alema, last week gleefully attacked Renzi for trying to undermine Conte’s government, reflecting that “You can’t get rid of the country’s most popular man at the will of the most unpopular”.
Renzi had repeatedly promised that if he lost the referendum he would leave politics altogether, but within months he was campaigning to regain control of the PD.He succeeded, briefly, before resigning again after defeat at the 2018 election, which ushered in the government of the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement and Salvini’s League.
Italia Viva has become the kind of minuscule party with the power to make of break governments, which Renzi used to say were the curse of Italy’s politics when he led the PD in his heyday.
Italy’s former Prime Minister Matteo Renzi said he is lucky not to have had to work with President Donald Trump, telling CNBC that he preferred former President Barack Obama’s style of leadership.
“I’m a really lucky man because I worked with Barack Obama and not Donald Trump,” Renzi, who was Italy’s prime minister from early 2014 to late 2016, told CNBC’s Hadley Gamble in an exclusive interview Wednesday.
Trump would likely get along with Italy’s current populist coalition government which is made up of the right-wing Lega party which campaigned on an anti-immigration manifesto, and the anti-establishment Five Star Movement.
Remarking on the current government in Italy, which has been in power for just under a year, Renzi said it had created “Chaos” in the last 12 months.
Making matters worse, Italy’s economy entered a recession in the final three months of 2018 and the government reportedly expects the economy to grow by just 0.1 percent in 2019, down from a 1 percent forecast made in December.
“Italy is a good economy, with a bad government, it’s a good car with a bad driver … I believe that Italy is a country with a government that has created chaos in the last 12 months,” he said.
“I’m really sad for that because with my government for three years we came back from crisis to growth. When I started my experience as prime minister GDP growth was -1.7 after my government and the government of Paolo Gentiloni, we came to growth of 1.5 percent plus. So we created the growth in Italy. What happened?”.

The Momentum True Wireless 2 and CX 400BT weren’t great calling headsets, but the CX Plus is worthy of inclusion on our best headphones with a mic for voice and video calls list.
At $180, the Sennheiser CX Plus face stiff competition, but they’re a bargain worth pursuing for $126 and one of the top models at the price.
Sennheiser’S New In-Ear Monitors Are All About The Metal
Sennheiser’s new earbuds are 3D printed with the same material used in the drill bits for the Mars rover.
What the hell is zirconium anyway? Without going into too much detail, zirconium is a shapeable metal that’s highly resistant to corrosion.
So why is Sennheiser using zirconium in its headphones?
One might assume that using this uncommon material would somehow provide you with otherworldly sound quality, but that’s not what Sennheiser seems to be pitching here.
Sennheiser products have always been directed at audiophiles, and the IE 600 is no different.
Sennheiser hasn’t yet shared many other technical details on the IE 600, only that it will use a single 7mm driver and precision-molded resonator chambers to provide a “Tonally neutral” sound profile.
Correction March 2nd, 5:38PM ET: An earlier version of this story stated that the Sennheiser IE600 used a 3.5mm and 1/4-inch wired connection.

The 5 Best Sennheiser Headphones Of 2022: Reviews
The best Sennheiser headphones for casual use that we’ve tested are the Sennheiser Momentum 3 Wireless.
Out of the box, they have a bass-heavy sound profile that adds extra thump, rumble, and boom to mixes.
That said, if you prefer a different sound, their companion app has a parametric EQ plus presets so that you can tweak them to suit your tastes.
The headphones also support aptX and aptX-LL codecs, offering better sound quality and lower latency.
They leak some audio at high volumes, and escaping audio can bother others around you.
They also have a somewhat bulky design, and their soft carrying case may not completely protect your headphones from damage caused by accidental drops or falls.
That said, if you’re looking for headphones with a hard case, the Sennheiser PXC 550-II Wireless offer similar performance, although they have a lesser build quality and lack a parametric EQ for finetuning their sound.
Sennheiser Sells Off Its Consumer Brand – TechCrunch
The deal will bring headphones and sound bars to Sonova’s existing portfolio, which is largely centered around healthcare products.
Among other things the deal could have interesting implications for the so-called hearables category, which can walk the line between headphones and healthcare products.
Sennheiser will shift the entirety of its focus to its pro products.
“To be best able to exploit the potential in each of these markets, we are concentrating our own resources on the three business areas in the Professional division and are looking for a strong partner to invest in our Consumer business,” Co-CEO Daniel Sennheiser noted at the time.
Sennheiser describes the deal as a “Permanent cooperation” between the two, including licensing the company’s name.
The existing consumer wing, including many of its employees, will transfer to Sonovo.
“We are convinced that Sonova will strengthen the Sennheiser Consumer Business in the long term and capture the major growth opportunities.”

If you’re a vocalist, public speaker, or broadcaster, then you’ll know that a quality, dynamic vocal microphone is essential.
No matter how good your voice might sound without amplification, if your mic isn’t up to scratch, the sound quality your audience hears won’t do you justice.
Music Critic decided to help microphone users by testing several dynamic vocal mics with a focus on sound quality, durability, and value-for-money.
We wanted to find the best dynamic vocal mics that offered a significant amount of gain before feedback, included effective pop filters.
Our testing led us to decide that the following are the best dynamic vocal mics currently available.
Microphone
The first microphone that enabled proper voice telephony was the carbon microphone.
The carbon microphone was the earliest type of microphone.
The high impedance of the crystal microphone made it very susceptible to handling noise, both from the microphone itself and from the connecting cable.
The MEMS microphone is also called a microphone chip or silicon microphone.
In low frequencies a cardioid microphone behaves as an omnidirectional microphone.
Low-impedance microphones are preferred over high impedance for two reasons: one is that using a high-impedance microphone with a long cable results in high-frequency signal loss due to cable capacitance, which forms a low-pass filter with the microphone output impedance.
The Microphone Data Website has collated the technical specifications complete with pictures, response curves and technical data from the microphone manufacturers for every currently listed microphone, and even a few obsolete models, and shows the data for them all in one common format for ease of comparison.

Statistics: Public Company Incorporated: 1969 as Terrain King Employees: 1,342 Sales: $200.5 million Stock Exchanges: New York Ticker Symbol: ALG NAIC: 333112 Lawn and Garden Tractor and Home Lawn and Garden Equipment Manufacturing; 333111 Farm Machinery and Equipment Manufacturing Company Perspectives: Alamo Group Inc. is the world leader in the design, manufacture and distribution of rugged, high-quality, tractor-mounted mowing and other vegetation maintenance equipment.
Taking its name from the famous Texas landmark, Alamo Group Inc. of Seguin, Texas, has been building a solid reputation since 1969.
In the Beginning: 1950s-70s. It could be said that the evolution of Alamo Group began back in the 1800s with several scientific breakthroughs, components of a larger whole none could foresee at the time.
Both Budding and Deere were aimed in the same direction, one leading to the varied holdings of both the Alamo Group and Deere & Company, and what became the multibillion-dollar agricultural machinery industry of today.
1983 was most significant for the company’s move away from the Terrain King name in favor of the Alamo Group Inc. The new name reflected a parent company with several successful brand names and the new directions Douglass and Logan foresaw in its future.
Throughout the year, Alamo pursued five acquisitions, beginning in April with M & W Gear Company, which took the company into hay-making equipment; May’s Rhino International, Inc., a Chinese manufacturer and distributor of tractors, and Certified Power Train Specialists, Inc. The remaining two acquisitions were NJM Dabekausen Beheer BV, a distributor for Bomford products in the Netherlands and Germany, which was integrated into Bomford in June, and the November acquisition of the Herschel Corporation, a leading manufacturer of farm equipment replacement parts, which was combined with the Adams product line and collectively referred to as Herschel-Adams.
Alamo was poised for a promising year in 1998 and caught the attention of the Woods Equipment Company and two of its own subsidiaries, the WEC Company and the AGI Acquisition Corp. Woods turned the tables on Douglass and Logan with an offer to buy Alamo and merge it into the Illinois-based company’s holdings.

In vivo primers may be the following: RNA synthesized by RNA polymerases, by primases or the RNA is pre-formed; DNA produced by combination of an initial RNA primer and then extension by a DNA polymerase as observed for the dual action of primase and DNA polymerase in eukaryotes; DNA primers produced by specific nicking of one strand of DNA or by recombination; and terminal proteins.
Only Taq DNA polymerase, Tth DNA polymerase, Tma DNA polymerase, Bca DNA polymerase, and Mth DNA polymerase have been shown to contain an inherent 5′ to 3′-exonuclease activity, whereas only Tac DNA polymerase, Tma DNA polymerase, Bca DNA polymerase, Mth DNA polymerase, Tli DNA polymerase, and Pfu DNA polymerase have been shown to contain an inherent 3′-to 5′-exonuclease activity.
Of the characterized thermostable DNA polymerases, only Mth DNA polymerase, Tma DNA polymerase, and Bca DNA polymerase resemble E. coli DNA polymerase I, in that they contain both a 5′- to 3′-exonuclease and a 3′- to 5′-exonuclease.
Two molecules of DNA polymerase III bind to the primers on the leading and lagging strands and synthesize new DNA from the 3′ hydroxyls.
DNA polymerase cannot synthesize new DNA without a pre-existing 3′-OH. Thus, DNA replication requires an RNA primer to initiate strand formation.
Play a pivotal role in DNA replication and DNA repair by catalyzing the stepwise addition of deoxyribonucleotides to a growing DNA chain.
The Escherichia coli Pol I was the first DNA polymerase discovered and features three enzymatic activities: the 5′-to-3′ polymerase activity, which is responsible for DNA synthesis; the 3′-to-5′ exonuclease activity, which allows the removal of wrongly incorporated bases; and the 5′-to-3′ exonuclease activity, which allows the polymerase to remove flaps of downstream DNA created as a result of strand displacement by Pol I. Much of our structural and mechanistic knowledge on Pol I comes from studies of a cleavage product of full-length Pol I, known as Klenow fragment, which lacks the 5′-to-3′ exonuclease activity.
DNA Polymerase
A DNA polymerase is a member of a family of enzymes that catalyze the synthesis of DNA molecules from nucleoside triphosphates, the molecular precursors of DNA. These enzymes are essential for DNA replication and usually work in groups to create two identical DNA duplexes from a single original DNA duplex.
Three more DNA polymerases have been found in E. coli, including DNA polymerase III and DNA polymerases IV and V. The main function of DNA polymerase is to synthesize DNA from deoxyribonucleotides, the building blocks of DNA. The DNA copies are created by the pairing of nucleotides to bases present on each strand of the original DNA molecule.
Based on sequence homology, DNA polymerases can be further subdivided into seven different families: A, B, C, D, X, Y, and RT. Some viruses also encode special DNA polymerases, such as Hepatitis B virus DNA polymerase.
Retroviruses encode an unusual DNA polymerase called reverse transcriptase, which is an RNA-dependent DNA polymerase.
In E. coli, DNA polymerase IV is an error-prone DNA polymerase involved in non-targeted mutagenesis.
DNA polymerase V is a Y-family DNA polymerase that is involved in SOS response and translesion synthesis DNA repair mechanisms.
Retroviruses encode an unusual DNA polymerase called reverse transcriptase, which is an RNA-dependent DNA polymerase that synthesizes DNA from a template of RNA. The reverse transcriptase family contain both DNA polymerase functionality and RNase H functionality, which degrades RNA base-paired to DNA. An example of a retrovirus is HIV. Reverse transcriptase is commonly employed in amplification of RNA for research purposes.
DNA Polymerase: What Is It And What Does It Do? – Excedr
Arthur Kornberg first discovered this polymerase in 1956 in lysates of Escherichia coli after identifying their ability to synthesize a new DNA chain using deoxynucleotide triphosphates and DNA template strands.
More complex cells possess more DNA polymerases; viruses have only 1 DNA pol, prokaryotes have 5 DNA pol, and eukaryotes have 15 DNA pol, designated with greek letters as DNA pol α, 𝛃, 𝛄, ẟ, ε, ζ, η, θ, ι, 𝛋, .
Its example includes DNA pol II. Structure of Family X. Family X consists of eukaryotes’ DNA polymerase pol β, pol μ, pol λ, and pol .
Structure of Family Y. Y-family DNA polymerases contain pol IV, which is an error-prone DNA polymerase involved in non-targeted mutagenesis.
The Y-family of DNA polymerases also contains pol V that bypass DNA damage to continue replication.
DNA polymerases perform two central functions in organisms: DNA replication and DNA repair.
Thereafter, DNA pol arrives at the strand, releasing DNA pol α, and completing the process of DNA replication by elongating the majority of the strand.
What Is DNA Polymerase And Its Function?- LabMal Academy
Its main function is to replicate new DNA strands from an original DNA strand.
During the replication, the DNA polymerase always pairs Adenine with Thymine and pairs Cytosine with Guanine, in the 5′-3′ direction of the DNA strand.
DNA polymerase is useful for many applications, including polymerase chain reaction, cloning, single-nucleotide polymorphism, etc.
To ensure that the DNA polymerase is performing at its best for different applications, NEB has developed a series of DNA Polymerase which is optimized for different application.
NEB has a series of DNA polymerase that suitable for different users’ applications.

OneTaq® DNA Polymerase is the fusion of Taq and Deep Vent® DNA polymerase that suitable for most PCR application.
Multiple Functions Of DNA Polymerases
Given the multitude and the complexity of DNA transactions that depend on DNA polymerase activity, it is not surprising that cells in all organisms contain multiple highly specialized DNA polymerases, the majority of which have only recently been discovered.
A family of enzymes exists, composed of DNA polymerases that are only present in archaea, and a novel class of DNA polymerases that are related to archaeal primases has recently been identified in bacteria.
Thus, these enzymes can accommodate distorted DNA structures in their active site, resulting in the ability of these enzymes to polymerize on damaged DNA. In fact, the main role of family Y polymerases seems to be in DNA lesion tolerance pathways: if the cell fails to repair DNA lesions that can interfere with the replication process and these lesions are encountered by the replication fork, family Y polymerases can bypass those lesions by polymerizing across the damaged site, in a process that has been termed translesion synthesis.
A large number of additional structures of DNA polymerases in complex with their substrates have been solved, so that we presently know the structure of at least one representative member of each DNA polymerase family, including family C, represented by E. coli DNA Polymerase III. Interestingly, despite the lack of extensive sequence similarity, the general structure of most of these enzymes shares common features.
Beyond revealing the general protein fold, structural studies of DNA polymerases are furthering our understanding, at the atomic level, of the nature of the interaction of DNA polymerases with normal and damaged, DNA substrates, the specific properties of each DNA polymerase or the molecular mechanisms of mutagenesis.
This is the case of family Y DNA polymerases during TLS. As stated earlier, the discovery of family Y polymerases resulted partly from the realization that two E. coli proteins that are part of the DNA damage-induced SOS response encode two previously unidentified DNA polymerases.

The Definitieve Guide
DNA polymerase is an important enzyme group involved in DNA synthesis, repair, and replication; these enzymes are found in all living organisms.
DNA polymerase has varying roles in the mechanisms of DNA synthesis, repair, and replication.
Very simply put, the fingers help to carefully position the unzipped DNA strand by recognizing the nucleotides, the palm is the active site where phosphorylation occurs, and the thumb binds the DNA into a double-helix form as it exits the DNA polymerase molecule.

Pol is the only DNA polymerase that can replicate mitochondrial DNA. Pol theta repairs double-strand breaks within the DNA by rejoining the broken ends.
Because of such studies into disease and DNA, family A DNA polymerases have helped us to understand and treat various forms of cancer.
Pol alpha kick-starts the DNA replication process and communicates areas of damage to other B-family DNA polymerases such as Pol delta and Pol epsilon.
Polymerase Chain Reaction Fact Sheet
To amplify a segment of DNA using PCR, the sample is first heated so the DNA denatures, or separates into two pieces of single-stranded DNA. Next, an enzyme called “Taq polymerase” synthesizes – builds – two new strands of DNA, using the original strands as templates.
This process results in the duplication of the original DNA, with each of the new molecules containing one old and one new strand of DNA. Then each of these strands can be used to create two new copies, and so on, and so on.
The cycle of denaturing and synthesizing new DNA is repeated as many as 30 or 40 times, leading to more than one billion exact copies of the original DNA segment.
The entire cycling process of PCR is automated and can be completed in just a few hours.
It is directed by a machine called a thermocycler, which is programmed to alter the temperature of the reaction every few minutes to allow DNA denaturing and synthesis.
