Royal Caribbean Sets Target Of Three Million Guests
ROYAL Caribbean International President and CEO Michael Bayley hopes to bring three million guests to The Bahamas by 2024, up from 1.5 million – the pre-COVID peak for arrivals in 2019.
His comment to reporters yesterday followed a ceremony celebrating the inaugural cruise of its biggest and newest ship, the Wonder of the Seas.
Emphasising the significance of yesterday’s ceremony, Mr Bayley said: “It’s important in so many ways. First of all is the fact that the world’s largest cruise ship, Wonder of the Seas, flies the Bahamian flag, it’s registered in The Bahamas along with 35 other Royal Caribbean ships.”It’s meaningful because it’s our first port of call on what’s called a revenue cruise where we got our customers, or guests on board and it’s symbolic because when Royal Caribbean was started as a company, as a cruise liner over 50 years ago, our very first port was Nassau.
“I think it’s also important because it yet again kind of confirms our relationship with The Bahamas that we’ve had over many, many decades. Obviously as a company it’s our flagship brand, this ship, and it’s also a ship that was literally born through the pandemic. It takes about two and a half years to build a ship such as this. This is the fifth ship in the Oasis class.”
The ship, which weighs 236,857 tons, can accommodate nearly 7,000 passengers.
“Every month it will bring 28,000 cruise tourists to The Bahamas and to every destination it goes to,” Mr Bayley said.
“Over a year that’s gonna be about 360,000 cruise tourists coming to The Bahamas.”
Royal Caribbean Puts World’S Largest Cruise Ship Wonder Of The Seas To Work From Florida
Royal Caribbean puts world’s largest cruise ship Wonder of the Seas to work from Florida – Orlando Sentinel.
FORT LAUDERDALE – The world’s largest cruise ship sailed with its first customers Friday from Port Everglades breaking in the first of two Florida homes planned for the Royal Caribbean vessel this year.
“It’s not a goal for us to say the next ship will be the biggest ship,” said Mark Tamis, Royal Caribbean International’s senior vice president of hotel operations.
Wonder of the Seas is the fifth of six announced Oasis-class ships, coming in at 1,188 feet long, 217 feet wide ship with 18 decks and 2,867 staterooms.
The other four ships in the class each held the title of world’s largest cruise ship starting with Oasis of the Seas in 2008 followed by Allure of the Seas in 2009, Harmony of the Seas in 2016 and Symphony of the Seas in 2018.
Since it’s the biggest, the ship also features the largest space carved out for suites on any Royal vessel with its own lounge, elevated sun deck with plunge pool, bar and loungers plus a private dining experience called Coastal Kitchen.
Wonder of the Seas touts it as the new eighth neighborhood while the other Oasis ships only have seven: Central Park, Boardwalk, Pool & Sports Zone, Entertainment Place, Royal Promenade, Vitality Spa & Fitness Center and Youth Zone.
Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas – the world’s largest cruise ship – has set off on its inaugural voyage from Fort Lauderdale to Labadee, Haiti; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Nassau and CocoCay, Bahamas.
The COVID-19 pandemic played a factor in the CDC’s no sail order and eventual conditional sailing order for cruise ships, which ultimately expired on Jan. 15, 2022.
Wonder of the Seas is a record-breaking cruise ship that measures 1,188 feet in length and 210 feet in width, according to Royal Caribbean.
The cruise line also boasts that the ship can hold up to 6,988 guests and 2,300 international crew members.
The cruise line plans to sail the ship throughout the Eastern and Western Caribbean until April 2022.
The cruise line noted that current health and safety protocols and guest conduct rules vary by ship and destination due to differing regional travel restrictions.
The CDC has a Cruise Ship Status Dashboard on its website that reports COVID-19 infection rates and vaccination status for each cruise line and respective ship, which are assigned a “Ship color status” that indicates health risk levels in green, yellow, orange, red and gray.

Mariner of the Seas and Serenade of the Seas, another pair of Voyager and Radiance-class ships, were introduced the next year, and rock-climbing walls were made a feature of every Royal Caribbean ship that year.
An even larger class, the Oasis class, featuring Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas, was launched in 2009 and 2010, guaranteeing Royal Caribbean the ship size lead for years to come.
In December 2012, Royal Caribbean announced that they had ordered a third Oasis-class cruise ship from STX France, which would be larger than the previous ships in the class.
In February 2013, Royal Caribbean announced the first two ships of their newest Quantum class, Quantum of the Seas and Anthem of the Seas, which were being built at the Meyer Werft shipyard.
In September 2014, Royal Caribbean announced that the third Quantum-class ship would be named Ovation of the Seas, and in February 2015 they announced that the third Oasis-class ship would be named Harmony of the Seas.
Since Sovereign of the Seas entered service in 1987, all subsequent Royal Caribbean ships have names ending with the phrase “Of the Seas”.
The Quantum-class ships were the first ships built for Royal Caribbean by Meyer Werft since the Radiance class and share many features with those ships, including indoor pools with retractable roofs, vast expanses of glass, outdoor seating in the “Windjammer” buffet, and self-leveling pool tables.

Photos & Departure Ports On Cruise Critic
One of the largest ships in the world, Oasis of the Seas makes an impression even before you board; the mega-ship looms above its counterparts.
The this-can’t-be-a-ship effect continues as you board; lined with eateries, shops selling designer goods and logowear, and Starbucks – and no outside windows – the ship’s Royal Promenade can feel like a mall, rather than a cruise ship.
Its onboard attractions are so popular that up to one-third of the passengers never even leave the ship in port.
So what makes Oasis of the Seas a hit for the families and active cruisers who love it? The secret is not only in the ship’s neighborhoods – which divide the vessel into manageable pieces, keep bottlenecks to a minimum and provide a dizzying amount of activities – but also in Royal Caribbean’s ability to evolve Oasis over time, sinking $165 million into the ship in 2019 as part of its Royal Amplification initiative to revitalize older ships.
If you don’t like planning your cruise activities before you board or hate lines, Oasis is probably not a great choice compared to Royal Caribbean’s more intimate ships.
Off the Ship Fully vaccinated groups may book a shore excursion through the cruise line or independently, or choose to explore off ship freely.
To explore off the ship, families with unvaccinated children must book a shore tour through Royal Caribbean, except at the line’s private island of Perfect Day at CocoCay.

Understanding Junk Food Advertisers For Weight Management
There has been a veritable bonanza of news stories over the past few weeks concerning the fast food and junk food industries.
We’re talking about studies detailing the influence of cartoons, advertising, and internet promotions for fast food, government subsidies and infiltrated nutrition committees, and city bans on fast food toys – not to mention studies showing how you can lose weight and improve your cholesterol and triglyceride numbers on a pure junk food diet.
Over the course of this newsletter, I’m going to tie together all of these disparate stories and explain the good, the bad, and the unmentionable about junk food and fast food.
“Young people must consume less of the calorie-dense, nutrient-poor foods served at fast food restaurants. Parents and schools can do more to teach children how to make healthy choices. Above all, fast food restaurants must drastically change their current marketing practices so that children and teens do not receive continuous encouragement to seek out food that will severely damage their health. In addition, when young people visit, the restaurants should do more to encourage the purchase of more healthful options.”
“It’s obvious why these reports focus almost exclusively on the fast food business. People hate advertisements and big corporations, and the fast food industry is a big target. The reports are written for parents, and those parents are unlikely to accept and embrace a study that blames them for what their kids eat.”
As Eric Schlosser said in his book Fast Food Nation, “The fast food industry has worked closely with its allies in Congress and the White House to oppose new worker safety, food safety, and minimum wage laws. While publicly espousing support for the free market, the fast food chains have quietly pursued and greatly benefited from a wide variety of government subsidies. Far from being inevitable, America’s fast food industry in its present form is the logical outcome of certain political and economic choices.”And right on cue, the US Government has just granted an exemption to the fast food industry out of the healthcare reform act so they can continue to offer less than minimal healthcare to their workers.
The fast food industry has managed to finagle its way into the heart of the debate on healthy food and health in general.
Fast Food Advertising
Fast food advertising promotes fast food products and utilizes numerous aspects to reach out to the public.
Along with automobiles, insurance, retail outlets, and consumer electronics, fast food is among the most heavily advertised sectors of the United States economy; spending over 4.6 billion dollars on advertising in 2012.
One of the main areas where fast food companies face regulation is the advertising of “Junk food” to children.
In the United Kingdom, the Children’s Food Bill is intended to highly regulate the advertising of such food aimed at children.
Negotiations between the Food Standards Agency and fast food companies were initiated in a collective effort to improve children’s diets, though Burger King withdrew from the discussions.
In June 2006, the FSA called for laws preventing such food from being advertised on television before 9pm. They also called for the disassociation of television and film characters from fast food and stopping celebrities from appearing in such advertisements.
Faced with restricted television, radio and print regulation, many fast food companies have started making use of Internet advertising to reach their customers.

How Fast Food Advertisements Get Under Your Skin, Whether You Realize It Or Not
Fast food marketing seeps into your brain in a way you may not realize.
At the University of Michigan, associate professor Ashley Gearhardt runs The Food and Addiction Science and Treatment lab, a simulated fast food restaurant that uses neuroimaging to study this sort of stimuli.
She’s currently conducting a study on 180 teenagers and what happens in the striatum-the reward section of the brain-while viewing the ads, and how the ads can get “Under the skin.” She showed teens three kinds of commercials: unhealthy fast food, healthier fast food and a control commercial for cell phones.
Echoing some of Gearhardt’s findings, Boyland told HuffPost, “We do have evidence that exposure to unhealthy food and beverage marketing increases food consumption in children, and that they do not compensate for this increased consumption by eating less at the next meal.”
Jennifer Harris, director of marketing initiatives at the University of Connecticut’s Rudd Center for Food Policy & Obesity, and her team constantly publish papers on the correlation between fast food marketing and childhood obesity.
Rudd published a studied in January 2019 on how fast food companies have increased their targeting to black and Hispanic communities, an already susceptible-to-obesity demographic.
Policies in reducing fast food ads during children’s programming have been effective, and Boyland said the government is considering banning unhealthy ads before 9 p.m. Advertisement.
Fast Food FACTS
TV represented 91% of total ad spending, and TV ad spending increased by 12% compared to 2012.
Preschoolers, children, and teens viewed on average 2.1 to 2.3 fast-food TV ads per day in 2019.
The majority of ads promoted regular menu items and the restaurant in general.
Less than 10% of ads viewed promoted kids’ meals.
The number of ads viewed by Hispanic preschoolers and children increased 2% and 7% over the 7 years, in contrast to a decline in ads viewed by preschoolers and children overall.
In 2019, Black preschoolers, children, and teens viewed approximately 75% more fast-food TV ads than their White peers, an increase compared to 60% more ads viewed by Black youth in 2012.
Although 274 fast-food restaurants advertised in 2019, six restaurants were responsible for 46% of total fast-food ad spending and approximately 55% of fast-food TV ads viewed by children and teens.

How Food Advertising Is Tricking You
What about food ads? Even if false food advertising is not directly linked to health consequences, these ads might be even farther from the truth than the fashion ones!
Some of the fake-outs used in food advertising are so ridiculous, it’s hard to believe we would never suspect anything when we see them on TV. Check out these commonly used food ad hacks, from motor oil “Syrup” to shampoo “Milk.”
More noticeable are the computer-generated images of common fast food items like hamburgers and tacos that are used in television commercials and magnified in size on the walls of various fast food chains.
Grocery store packaging, also created with computer graphics, is one of the largest culprits of false advertising.
Interestingly, about half of Americans still believe that ads are honest portrayals, according to yougov.com.
Because these people do not deserve to be tricked, and subsequently disappointed with their purchases, it appears that this country needs stronger regulations against false advertising.
Since companies therefore have little incentive to revert advertising images to their unedited forms, we may not see too much change in ads anytime in the near future.

BCAAs Benefits And Dosage
The potential benefits of BCAAs extend way beyond the gym, with new studies showing that supplementing with these essential amino acids could also improve liver function and keep you looking trim.
All three are considered essential amino acids, which means that your body is unable to produce them on its own, and they need to be obtained from food sources instead. Unlike most other amino acids, BCAAs are broken down in the muscle instead of the liver and play a key role in the production of energy during exercise.
BCAAs have been heavily researched in recent years, and a slew of new studies has unearthed a long list of benefits of BCAA supplementation.
Some of the best amino acid supplements include whey protein and protein powder made from bone broth, both of which contain a wider range of the important amino acids that you need as well as BCAAs.
BCAAs are available in many different forms, including BCAA pills, powders, tablets and capsules.
BCAAs are generally considered safe and can be consumed with minimal risk of BCAA side effects when used in doses up to 35 grams per day.
The body is unable to produce these amino acids on its own, which is why it’s important to get them from food sources or supplements instead. What do BCAA supplements do? Research has uncovered a number of potential benefits of BCAA supplementation, including enhanced muscle growth, faster recovery time, better liver health, decreased muscle loss, improved athletic performance and increased weight loss.

5 Proven Benefits Of BCAAs
In one study, people who consumed a drink with 5.6 grams of BCAAs after their resistance workout had a 22% greater increase in muscle protein synthesis compared to those who consumed a placebo drink.
While BCAAs can increase muscle protein synthesis, they can’t do so maximally without the other essential amino acids, such as those found in whey protein or other complete protein sources.
BCAAs have been shown to decrease muscle damage, which may help reduce the length and severity of DOMS. Several studies show that BCAAs decrease protein breakdown during exercise and decrease levels of creatine kinase, which is an indicator of muscle damage.
In one study, people who supplemented with BCAAs before a squat exercise experienced reduced DOMS and muscle fatigue compared to the placebo group.
In two studies, participants who supplemented with BCAAs improved their mental focus during exercise, which is thought to result from the fatigue-reducing effect of BCAAs.
In humans, BCAAs account for 35% of the essential amino acids found in muscle proteins.
Because most people get plenty of BCAAs through their diet, supplementing with BCAA is unlikely to provide additional benefits.
Branched-Chain Amino Acid
Among the proteinogenic amino acids, there are three BCAAs: leucine, isoleucine, and valine.
The three proteinogenic BCAAs are among the nine essential amino acids for humans, accounting for 35% of the essential amino acids in muscle proteins and 40% of the preformed amino acids required by mammals.
Oxidation of BCAAs may increase fatty acid oxidation and play a role in obesity.
Lastly, BCAAs share the same transport protein into the brain with aromatic amino acids.
While most amino acids are oxidized in the liver, BCAAs are primarily oxidized in the skeletal muscle and other peripheral tissues.
The effects of BCAA administration on muscle growth in rat diaphragm was tested, and concluded that not only does a mixture of BCAAs alone have the same effect on growth as a complete mixture of amino acids, but an amino acid mixture with all but BCAAs has no effect on rat diaphragm muscle growth.
High levels of lactic acid cause glucose metabolism to stop in order to reduce further reduction of pH. BCAA supplementation has been shown to decrease levels of lactic acid in the muscle, allowing glucose metabolism to continue.

What Is A Payment Service Provider Or PSP?
We’ll be defining what a payment service provider is, how it helps you to process different payment methods, and more.
A payment service provider might also be referred to as a third-party payment processing company.
A third party that facilitates and helps merchants in the accepting of payments, also known as a Merchant Services Provider or PSP. In online shopping, the PSP will provide various methods of payment including direct debit, bank transfer, real-time bank transfers using online banking, and credit card.
A payment service provider differs most from a merchant account in the way that it handles accounts.
The good thing about taking card payments through a payment service provider is that you generally don’t need to pay extra fees for security.
You’ll need to enter a contract with an acquiring bank with your merchant account, or through a payment service provider.
Another thing that you might need to consider when you’re evaluating your payment acceptance options, is how long you need to stay with a payment service provider.
The Best Online Payment Service Providers In 2022
The online payment service lets you know right away if the person making the online payment has sufficient funds to cover the transaction – rather than finding out a week later when the check bounces.
We’ll explore the costs later, but now, before you start thinking about selecting a particular payment provider, it’s important to understand some online payment terminology, including payment provider.
A payment gateway is a service that receives the online payment request from your website and directs it to the payment processor.
Where a payment provider offers multiple types of payment gateways – with different features and pricing – each type is referred to as apayment service or payment system.
PayPal is a payment service provider that offers a number of payment services or payment systems such as PayPal Payflow Pro and PayPal Express Checkout.
Depending on your online payment service provider, the form may appear on your website, or your purchaser may be redirected to a form on your service provider’s website.
Your payment service provider will then use a secure payment processing service – either their own or one provided by another company – to verify the purchaser’s credit card details and confirm whether the purchaser has sufficient funds to complete the transaction.
What Is A Payment Service Provider
A payment service provider refers to a third-party solution that enables businesses to accept a variety of online payment methods by connecting them to the broader financial system.
From the moment a customer enters their payment details to the second the funds clear in the merchants’ account, the payment service provider works on their behalf with banks, card schemes, and payment platforms to make sure the payment is processed, and the transaction goes through successfully.
Payment service providers bring each party in the chain together, including the merchants, customers, banks, card networks, and payment platforms.
The payment service provider then notifies the business and customer that the payment has been completed.
You can use a payment service provider to accept a range of payments from your customers via one gateway including debit cards, credit cards, mobile wallet payments, and more.
The majority of payment service providers provide both local and global payment methods and accept payments in a range of currencies – making them a secure and effective way to accept payments from customers around the world.
Get access to a range of online payment methods and solutions and ensure secure, fast, and affordable payment transactions with a payment service provider.
What Are Payment Service Providers?
Payment service providers make it possible for businesses to accept all types of online payments, including credit cards, debit cards, cash cards and e-wallets.
The result is a smooth and secure payment experience for both merchants and customers, with payment card industry, or PCI, compliance and your payment gateway already taken care of.
Payment service providers vs. merchant account providers.
The terms “Payment service provider” and “Merchant account provider” may sound similar, but they describe two different types of organizations.
Because merchant account providers give each business its own separate account, it can take some time to be approved so you can start getting paid – and you can expect a thorough vetting process as your individual risk as a business is assessed.
Faster setup: Payment service providers generally offer a simple setup process to get you up and running quickly, unlike many merchant account options, which have an involved approval process.
The extra vetting process merchant account providers require may be stressful, but it helps ensure that your account will stay in force over the long haul.
Payment Service Providers: Everything You Need To Know
Payment Service Providers have emerged as one of the main challengers to the traditional banking monopoly.
What exactly is a Payment Service Provider? Basically, it is a third party that helps merchants accept payments.
It is able to then harness the various relationships to create a payment service infrastructure that reaches across 20 different countries in Europe.
From providing merchants with in-store, online, and mobile payment acceptance solutions, to operating domestic debit card schemes, “Nets operates across the entire payment value chain from payment capture and authorization through to processing, clearing and settlement.”
In certain “European countries, such as Sweden and Norway, [they] are executing no more than 20 percent of their transactions in cash, while generating 520 noncash transactions per capita per year.” Payment service providers are likely to play an even more important role in the ecosystem as it continues to expand globally.

Vassoon Animation Prepares For Release Of $7 Million ‘Kuiba’ – The Hollywood Reporter
SHANGHAI – Kuiba, the $7 million Chinese animated debut feature film from veteran Beijing-based television studio Vassoon Animation will be released nationwide in July by the Shanghai Media Group, China’s latest attempt to showcase its homegrown cartooning talent.
Zhang said Vassoon is China’s oldest private animation studio, founded in 1992 by CEO Wu Hanqing, a veteran of the state-run China Film Group’s script department and a former member of the one-party government’s board of film censors.
“These people are passionate intellectuals who want to prove that while Japan’s had microphone for a long time, it’s China’s turn now,” said Zhang, who joined Vassoon in 2010 after leaving a job programming the Taiwan International Animation Festival for four years.
Vassoon’s attempt with Kuiba to break away from the small screen – where it has outsourced talent to Warner Brothers’ Batman TV series through a South Korean middleman, Zhang said – comes as Beijing pushes for China’s animation industry to compete with Hollywood’s expansive soft power.

Inflammation: What Is It, Causes, Symptoms & Treatment
Possible Causes What are the most common causes of inflammation?
Some lifestyle factors also contribute to inflammation in the body.
Supplements: Certain vitamins and supplements may reduce inflammation and enhance repair.
Some research shows that people who follow a Mediterranean diet have lower levels of inflammation in their bodies.
Inflammation is an essential part of your body’s healing process.
Chronic inflammation is a symptom of other health conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis.
You can reduce inflammation by eating anti-inflammatory foods and managing stress.
What Is Inflammation?
Think of inflammation as the body’s natural response to protect itself against harm.
Chronic inflammation can also occur in response to other unwanted substances in the body, such as toxins from cigarette smoke or an excess of fat cells.
Inside arteries, inflammation helps kick off atherosclerosis-the buildup of fatty, cholesterol-rich plaque.
A simple blood test called the hsCRP test can measure C-reactive protein, which is a marker for inflammation, including arterial inflammation.
Nearly 25 years ago, Harvard researchers found that men with higher CRP levels-approximately 2 milligrams per liter or greater-had three times the risk of heart attack and twice the risk of stroke as men with little or no chronic inflammation.
They also found that people with the greatest degree of arterial inflammation benefited the most from aspirin, a drug that helps prevent blood clots and also damps down inflammation.
Like aspirin, statins also appear to work particularly well in people with arterial inflammation.
What Is An Inflammation?
Very generally speaking, inflammation is the body’s immune system’s response to an irritant.
If the inflammation is severe, it can cause general reactions in the body.
When an inflammation occurs in your body, many different immune system cells may be involved.
The increased blood flow also allows more immune system cells to be carried to the injured tissue, where they help with the healing process.
The inflammatory mediators have yet another function: They make it easier for immune system cells to pass out of the small blood vessels, so that more of them can enter the affected tissue.
The immune system cells also cause more fluid to enter the inflamed tissue, which is why it often swells up.
In some diseases the immune system fights against the body’s own cells by mistake, causing harmful inflammations.
Inflammation: Types, Causes, Symptoms, Diagnosis, And Treatment
You can think of acute inflammation as the “Good” kind because it helps us heal, while chronic inflammation is the “Bad” kind because of its association with chronic disease.
Acute Inflammation Acute inflammation is typically caused by injuries, like a sprained ankle, or by illnesses, like bacterial infections and common viruses.
Chronic Inflammation Chronic, long-term inflammation can last for years or even an entire lifetime.
Scientists don’t know why chronic inflammation happens, as it doesn’t seem to serve a purpose like acute inflammation.
Chronic inflammation often progresses quietly, with few independent symptoms.
Inflammation causes pain because swelling pushes on sensitive nerve endings, sending pain signals to the brain.
While inflammation is a normal immune system response, long-term inflammation can be damaging.
Understanding Inflammation: Causes, Symptoms, Diagnosis, Treatment, M
Chronic inflammation is aslower and generally less severe form of inflammation.
The specific symptoms you have depend on where in your body the inflammation is and what’s causing it.
Long-term inflammation can lead to a number of symptoms and affect your body in many ways.
The ESR test is rarely performed alone, as it doesn’t help pinpoint specific causes of inflammation.
If your doctor believes the inflammation is due to viruses or bacteria, they may perform other specific tests.
If your inflammation is due to an underlying autoimmune condition, your treatment options will vary.
Inflammation is a normal and natural part of your body’s immune response.
Inflammation
Inflammation lasting 2-6 weeks is designated subacute inflammation.
Chronic inflammation is inflammation that lasts for months or years.
Acute inflammation of the lung does not cause pain unless the inflammation involves the parietal pleura, which does have pain-sensitive nerve endings.
In general, acute inflammation is mediated by granulocytes, whereas chronic inflammation is mediated by mononuclear cells such as monocytes and lymphocytes.
Specific patterns of acute and chronic inflammation are seen during particular situations that arise in the body, such as when inflammation occurs on an epithelial surface, or pyogenic bacteria are involved.
Purulent inflammation: Inflammation resulting in large amount of pus, which consists of neutrophils, dead cells, and fluid.
Although the processes involved are identical to tissue inflammation, systemic inflammation is not confined to a particular tissue but involves the endothelium and other organ systems.

If your digestive system is healthy, food moves smoothly through your digestive system and out of your body.
The rest passes through your body and leaves as urine or stool.
If you have IBD, part of your digestive system is inflamed.
Because of the inflammation in your digestive system from IBD, your body cannot absorb all of the nutrients it needs.
This can lead to malnutrition, other symptoms of IBD, or other health problems, such as anemia.

Crohn disease results in transmural ulceration of any portion of the gastrointestinal tract most often affecting the terminal ileum and colon.
Both diseases are classified by extent and location.
Besides the GI tract, both Crohn disease and ulcerative colitis have many extraintestinal manifestations.
Both disorders have a genetic predisposition; neither is curable and they both carry enormous morbidity.
Finally, both increase the risk of colorectal cancer.

IBD is a complex disease which arises as a result of the interaction of environmental and genetic factors leading to immunological responses and inflammation in the intestine.
Further evidence of the role of gut flora in the cause of inflammatory bowel disease is that IBD-affected individuals are more likely to have been prescribed antibiotics in the 2-5 year period before their diagnosis than unaffected individuals.
Conditions with similar symptoms as Crohn’s disease includes intestinal tuberculosis, Behçet’s disease, ulcerative colitis, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug enteropathy, irritable bowel syndrome and coeliac disease.
The chief types of inflammatory bowel disease are Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
Biological therapy for inflammatory bowel disease, especially the TNF inhibitors, are used in people with more severe or resistant Crohn’s disease and sometimes in ulcerative colitis.
The following treatment strategies are not used routinely, but appear promising in some forms of inflammatory bowel disease.
IBD Symptoms And Treatment
Two major types of IBD are ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease.
When there is severe inflammation, the disease is considered active and the person experiences a flare-up of symptoms.
A genetic link could also lead to a test for IBD.What Are the Symptoms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease?
As with other chronic diseases, a person with IBD will generally go through periods in which the disease flares up and causes symptoms, followed by periods in which symptoms decrease or disappear and good health returns.
If you have Crohn’s disease, especially if it’s accompanied by a complication such as perianal disease, the doctor may prescribe an antibiotic to be taken with your other medicines.

Sigmoid colon: The S-shaped connection between the last part of the colon and the rectum, located on the bottom left side of the abdomen is called the sigmoid colon.
Structure The colon is comprised of four layers of tissue, similar to other regions of the digestive tract.
A slurry of digested food passes from the small intestine into the colon through the ileocecal valve and the cecum, where it mixes with beneficial bacteria from the colon.
Colorectal cancer: Colon cancer can affect each part of the colon discussed above and is the 3rd leading cause of cancer-related deaths in both men and women in the United States.
Colon: Function, Anatomy & Definition
The rest of the colon is divided into segments: the ascending colon, the transverse colon, the descending colon and the sigmoid colon.
They might say the three parts of the large intestine are the cecum, the colon and the rectum.
Like the small intestine, the large intestine churns the food against its mucous lining and also moves it forward through periodic muscle contractions.
The large intestine is about six feet long – much shorter than the small intestine, which is 22 feet.
It’s called the large intestine because it’s wider – about three inches, while the small intestine is only one inch in diameter.
Functional disorders, structural disorders, infections and irritations can affect the large intestine, including the colon, rectum and anus.

Lactose intolerance is the most common type of disorder in the large intestine.
Anatomy And Physiology
Although shorter than the small intestine in length, the large intestine is considerably thicker in diameter, thus giving it its name.
The large intestine wraps around the border of the abdominal body cavity from the right side of the body, across the top of the abdomen, and finally down the left side.
At the end of the descending colon, the large intestine bends slightly medially at the sigmoid flexure to form the S-shaped sigmoid colon before straightening into the rectum.
The mucosa of the large intestine is smooth, lacking the villi found in the small intestine.
Surrounding the mucosa is a layer of blood vessels, nerves and connective tissue known as the submucosa, which supports the other layers of the large intestine.
A slurry of digested food, known as chyme, enters the large intestine from the small intestine via the ileocecal sphincter.
While chyme moves through the large intestine, bacteria digest substances in the chyme that are not digestible by the human digestive system.
Large Intestine
The colon is the longest portion of the large intestine, and the terms are often used interchangeably but most sources define the large intestine as the combination of the cecum, colon, rectum, and anal canal.
The colon of the large intestine is the last part of the digestive system.
The colon is the longest part of the large intestine and its average length in the adult human is 65 inches or 166 cm for males, and 61 inches or 155 cm for females.
In mammals, the large intestine consists of the cecum, colon, rectum, and anal canal.
The ascending colon is the first of four main sections of the large intestine.
The sigmoid colon is the part of the large intestine after the descending colon and before the rectum.

Ten years later, the Chicago spirits merchant Harry Blum bought the company, and in 1968 sold it to American Brands, Inc. In 1987, the James B. Beam Distilling Company purchased National Distillers and renamed itself the Jim Beam Brands Company.
In 2006, the company was renamed Beam Global Spirits & Wine, Inc. It was split from Fortune Brands to become an independent publicly traded company, Beam Inc., in 2011.
In November 2015, Beam Suntory sold its sherry and brandy brands to the Philippines-owned group Emperador for Euro 275 million.
The Chicago Cubs and Beam Suntory announced a long-term sponsorship deal in January 2017, making Beam the official spirits partner of the Cubs and Wrigley Field.
In addition to brands produced directly by the company and its subsidiaries, Beam Suntory imports and markets some brands produced by others, such as the DeKuyper cordial and the coffee liqueur Kamora.
The resolution arose in part out of Beam’s scheme to pay a bribe to an Indian government official in exchange for approval of a license to bottle a line of products that Beam sought to market and sell in India, and related internal controls and books and records violations, which included efforts by a then-member of Beam’s legal department to affirmatively avoid uncovering information related to improper activities and practices by third-parties engaged by Beam in India that presented corruption risks.
Beam entered into a three-year deferred prosecution agreement with the Criminal Division’s Fraud Section and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois in connection with criminal information unsealed in the Northern District of Illinois charging Beam with one count of conspiracy to violate the anti-bribery, internal controls, and books and records provisions of the FCPA..
Maker’s Mark distiller Beam Suntory and Sam Adams brewer Boston Beer are joining forces through a new partnership that will bring the iconic brands into new categories.
Initial plans for the long-term partnership include branching Boston Beer’s Truly hard seltzer into the spirits category and using Beam Suntory’s Sauza brand for ready-to-drink beverages.
Boston Beer CEO Dave Burwick and Beam Suntory CEO Albert Baladi already have plenty of experience working together.
In recent years, a “Fourth category” of alcoholic drinks has emerged, blurring the line between wine, beer and spirits.
Last September, Beam Suntory bought canned cocktail brand On the Rocks for an undisclosed sum.
Because of alcohol regulations that differ across states, beer can have a different path to market than spirits, which tend to be more regulated because of its higher alcohol content.
“Boston Beer, as a beer company, has a lot greater access than we have, so it can put the brand into the hands of many, many consumers,” Baladi said.
Beam Suntory Inc. Agrees To Pay Over $19 Million To Resolve Criminal Foreign Bribery Case
Beam Suntory Inc., a Chicago-based company that produces and sells distilled beverages, has agreed to pay a criminal monetary penalty of $19,572,885 to resolve the department’s investigation into violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.
The resolution arises in part out of Beam’s scheme to pay a bribe to an Indian government official in exchange for approval of a license to bottle a line of products that Beam sought to market and sell in India, and related internal controls and books and records violations, which included efforts by a then-member of Beam’s legal department to affirmatively avoid uncovering information related to improper activities and practices by third-parties engaged by Beam in India that presented corruption risks.
According to its admissions, Beam conspired with others to violate the FCPA by, among other things, engaging in a scheme to pay a bribe of one million Indian Rupees to a senior Indian government official in exchange for that official’s approval of a license to bottle “Ready-to-Drink” products that Beam sought to market and sell in India through its subsidiary, Beam Global Spirits & Wine Private Ltd. The bribe was authorized by a high-ranking executive at Beam’s Asia Pacific/South America regional business unit, who directed that the payment be made through Beam India’s third-party bottler in order to conceal it.
According to its admissions, from the time Beam acquired the Indian business in 2006 through the end of the third quarter of 2012, Beam India paid bribes and made other improper payments to various Indian government officials, including corrupt payments to obtain or retain business in the Indian market.
Most of the corrupt payments were made through third-party sales promoters and distributors, who paid government officials to secure orders of Beam products at government controlled depots and retail stores, obtain prominent placement of Beam products in government retail stores, acquire and renew label registrations and licenses, and enable the distribution of Beam spirit products from Beam India’s Behror bottling facility to warehouses in other states throughout India.
The criminal monetary penalty for Beam reflects a 10 percent reduction off the bottom of the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines fine range because Beam received partial credit for its remediation and cooperation with the government’s investigation.
In July 2018, in a related matter with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Beam agreed to pay the SEC disgorgement and prejudgment interest totaling approximately $6 million and a civil monetary penalty of $2 million but the department is not crediting any portion of the penalty paid to the SEC because Beam did not seek to coordinate a parallel resolution with the department.
Beam Suntory Increases Worldwide Sales 11% In 2021
Beam Suntory’s shifted its strategy to move into premium spirits.
The move has paid off for the company, which has seen sales increase by 11% in 2021.
In the United States, the company’s sales in 2021 grew at high digits, fueled by demand for its premium spirits.
Worldwide, Beam Suntory sales increased 11% in 2021 over the prior-year period and on a two-year basis.
Despite its strong business performance, Beam Suntory has not been immune to many of the challenges facing the broader spirits industry.
Sales in Japan increased by an average figure, but government restrictions weighed on demand.
Last year, industry-wide, sales of pre-mixed cocktails grew the fastest of any spirits category, according to the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States.
Beam Suntory: ‘Macro- And Micro-Level Strides’ Powering Proof Positive Agenda
Last month, Beam Suntory was unveiled as Platinum Partner for the pioneering Travel Retail Sustainability Week.
Further to the announcement, TRBusiness caught up with Manuel González, Marketing Director Global Travel Retail, to discuss the progress being made towards Beam Suntory’s US$1 billion-plus ‘Proof Positive’ sustainability strategy.
At the same time, Travel Retail Sustainability Week continues to gain new impetus as a platform that reflects the increasing investments being made across all sectors in corporate ESG. In response to this, the Sustainability Pitch programme will offer stakeholders the chance to promote sustainable services and solutions to a panel of ‘Sustainability Guardians’ in the search of the prestigious ‘Sustainability Hero’ or ‘Sustainability Traiblazer’ statuses.

Ukrainians
After the decline of the Zaporizhian Sich and the establishment of Imperial Russian hegemony in Ukraine, Ukrainians became more widely known by the Russian regional name, Little Russians, with the majority of Ukrainian élites espousing Little Russian identity.
With the publication of Ivan Kotliarevsky’s Eneyida in 1798, which established the modern Ukrainian language, and with the subsequent Romantic revival of national traditions and culture, the ethnonym Ukrainians and the notion of a Ukrainian language came into more prominence at the beginning of the 19th century and gradually replaced the words “Rusyns” and “Ruthenian(s)”.
The largest population of Ukrainians outside of Ukraine lives in Russia where about 1.9 million Russian citizens identify as Ukrainian, while millions of others have some Ukrainian ancestry.
Ukrainians in Chernivtsi Oblast have a higher percentage of I2a as opposed to R1a, which is typical of the Balkan region, but a smaller percentage than Russians of the N1c1 lineage found among Finnic, Baltic, and Siberian populations, and also less R1b than West Slavs. In terms of haplogroup distribution, the genetic pattern of Ukrainians most closely resembles that of Belarusians.
According to the concept of nationality dominant in Eastern Europe the Ukrainians are people whose native language is Ukrainian whether or not they are nationally conscious, and all those who identify themselves as Ukrainian whether or not they speak Ukrainian.
According to the 2001 Ukrainian census, 67.5% of Ukrainians and 85.2% of ethnic Ukrainians named Ukrainian as their mother-tongue, and 14.8% named Russian as their mother-tongue.
Ukrainians have their own autocephalous Orthodox Church of Ukraine headed by Metropolitan Epiphanius and in the eastern and southern areas of Ukraine the Ukrainian Orthodox Church under the jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarchate is the most common.
A Wave Of Ukrainians And Russians At The U.S.-Mexico Border Puts Pressure On Biden’S Immigration Restrictions
Migrant advocates say Sofiia and her family’s struggle has directed a spotlight on the Biden Administration’s embrace of Title 42, which has been the subject of an ongoing lawsuit against the U.S., at a time when a growing number of Ukrainians and Russians are attempting to request asylum.
According to a TIME analysis of CBP data, the number of encounters between U.S. border agents and Ukrainians and Russians at the U.S.-Mexico border increased 753% between FY2020 and 2021.
In FY22 so far, the number of Ukrainians and Russians encountered at the border has already surpassed the previous two years, with the most significant uptick happening in the last six months, as Russia’s threats against Ukraine increased.
Immigration experts say it’s likely she chose this pathway because most Ukrainian passport holders don’t need a visa to arrive in Mexico by plane; a visa is required to arrive in the U.S. From Mexico City, Sofiia and her kids drove to Tijuana, hoping to cross into the U.S. to stay with family members in California while they awaited their asylum hearing.
Ukrainians and Russians have been arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border since at least 2014, says Jessica Bolter, associate policy analyst at the Migration Policy Institute, a nonpartisan research institution, although the numbers have always been relatively low, compared to other nationalities, such as Salvadorans, Guatemalans and Hondurans.
In December, U.S. border agents reported more than 4,500 encounters with Russians and Ukrainians at the borders with both U.S. and Canada in December, and more than 3,700 in January.
For the most part, Russian and Ukrainian migrants have been exempted from Title 42, likely because the U.S. does not have the resources to return Russians or Ukrainians to those countries, Bolter says.
The Tories Claim We Are Worse Than We Are
Patel could tell her honourable counterparts in Dublin that she worried that Ireland’s decision to welcome refugees could allow them to reach the UK by the back door, and then toddle off to her safe home and warm bed, and enjoy a sleep undisturbed by nightmares.
Policy towards refugees is driven by the same crabbed and punitive moralism that led the Victorians to build workhouses Two forces have driven the abandonment of our allies and the denial of common humanity: the bureaucratic ineptitude of the Home Office and the calculations of the Conservative leadership.
Given the cost controls, the Home Office under its current policies may not be able to afford a Ukrainian refugee influx.
In 2016, the chief inspector of borders reported that senior Home Office managers had told him they were unlikely to change policy even if there was no reduction in the number of asylum seekers entering the UK. Inflicting pain was “The right thing to do”, they said The public would not accept asylum seekers receiving “The same range of benefits and services” British citizens enjoyed.
Conservative policy towards refugees is driven by the same crabbed and punitive moralism that led the Victorians to build workhouses.
To add to their absurdist atmosphere, Patel is presenting a nationality and borders bill to parliament that will criminalise Ukrainian refugees who cross the Channel without her permission.
Opinion polls may show 76% of the public want Ukrainian refugees to be allowed into the country.
History, Geography, People, Religion, Map, & Language
The capital is Kyiv, located on the Dnieper River in north-central Ukraine.
Ukraine had experienced a brief period of independence in 1918-20, but portions of western Ukraine were ruled by Poland, Romania, and Czechoslovakia in the period between the two World Wars, and Ukraine thereafter became part of the Soviet Union as the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic.
The rolling plain of the Dnieper Upland, which lies between the middle reaches of the Dnieper and Southern Buh rivers in west-central Ukraine, is the largest highland area; it is dissected by many river valleys, ravines, and gorges, some more than 1,000 feet deep.
Drainage Almost all the major rivers in Ukraine flow northwest to southeast through the plains to empty into the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.
The Dnieper River, with its hydroelectric dams, huge reservoirs, and many tributaries, dominates the entire central part of Ukraine.
Of the total course of the Dnieper, 609 miles are in Ukraine, making it by far the longest river in the country, of which it drains more than half.
Marshland, covering almost 3 percent of Ukraine, is found primarily in the northern river valleys and in the lower reaches of the Dnieper, Danube, and other rivers.

Airbnb And Booking: 12 Takeaways From Their Annual Financial Reports
Airbnb went deep while Booking Holdings went wide in terms of product development in 2021.
The following are takeaways from Airbnb’s annual 10-K filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, and a few comparisons with Booking Holdings’ report.
While Airbnb dug deeper into stays, Booking Holdings used 2021 to expand its product portfolio.
Both Airbnb and Booking Holdings sheared off around 25 percent of their workforces in 2020 because of the pandemic, but in 2021 Airbnb added back 535 employees, increasing its ranks 9.5 percent to 6,132 workers.
If you calculate each company’s revenue per employee in 2021, then Airbnb’s were much more productive than Booking’s – $977,000 for Airbnb versus $542,000 at Booking.
A cynic might say perhaps all of that stock-based compensation expense that Airbnb had on the books in 2021, $899 million excluding any related to restructuring, versus $370 million at the more established Booking Holdings, was an effective incentive.
While Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky has argued that millions of people have become untethered to offices, helping to blur distinctions between working, traveling, and living, Airbnb has extended the work from home option to employees around the world, except in China, until September 1, 2022.
Booking.Com
Booking.com is a Dutch online travel agency for lodging reservations & other travel products, and a subsidiary of Booking Holdings.

In November 2010, the company launched a hotel and lodging mobile app for the iPad. Booking.com launched the same mobile app on Android the following year in February.
In April 2015, French, Swedish and Italian competition authorities accepted a proposal by Booking.com to drop its “Rate parity” clause and thereby allow competitor travel agents to offer lower hotel prices than Booking.com.
Booking.com and its parent company, Booking Holdings, have been listed on the database in light of their involvement in activities related to “The provision of services and utilities supporting the maintenance and existence of settlements”.
Booking.com attempted to get the term “Booking.com” registered as a trademark but this application was rejected by the United States Patent and Trademark Office as they believed the trademark sought was rather generic in nature and hence that it could not be registered.
The United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and finally the Supreme Court of the United States, all held in the case Patent and Trademark Office v. Booking.com B. V. otherwise saying that the term “Booking.com”, via the suffix “.com” had created an identity that could be differentiated from the generic verb and hence could be trademarked.

No Booking.com coupons needed because the system will automatically apply discounts offered by individual hotels.
The start of the Summer and Spring seasons offers additional opportunities to grab Booking.com promo codes.

So in this article, we have seen what is Cloudflare, how does it work along with its applications.
Here we discuss the introduction, how Cloudflare work, what can we do with it and securities issues.
Cloudflare Refuses To Pull Out Of Russia, Says Putin Would Celebrate Shutoff
Cloudflare is resisting requests to fully shut off its services in Russia, saying that such a move would hurt Russian citizens and likely be “Celebrated” by Putin’s government.
“We have carefully considered these requests and discussed them with government and civil society experts. Our conclusion, in consultation with those experts, is that Russia needs more Internet access, not less.”
Prince said Cloudflare has seen “a dramatic increase” in users on Russian networks navigating to international media sites, “Reflecting a desire by ordinary Russian citizens to see world news beyond that provided within Russia. We’ve also seen an increase in Russian blocking and throttling efforts, combined with Russian efforts to control the content of the media operating inside Russia with a new ‘fake news’ law.”
We believe the Russian government would celebrate us shutting down Cloudflare’s services in Russia.
We absolutely appreciate the spirit of many Ukrainians making requests across the tech sector for companies to terminate services in Russia.
When what Cloudflare is fundamentally providing is a more open, private, and secure Internet, we believe that shutting down Cloudflare’s services entirely in Russia would be a mistake.
Ukraine Vice Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov last week asked Cloudflare to shut off service in Russia, writing that “Cloudflare should not protect Russian web resources while their tanks and missiles attack our kindergartens.”
Why Cloudflare Shares Rose More Than 20% Last Month
Shares of Cloudflare gained 20.8% in February 2022, according to data from S&P Global Market Intelligence.
Cloudflare proved the bears wrong on February 10 as Q4 revenues came in well above the analyst consensus.
Cloudflare was no exception, gaining 18.6% that day alone.
As of the afternoon of March 7, the stock is down 19% in the first few days of the new month.
Zooming out a bit further, we can see Cloudflare’s shares have lost 28% in 2022.
Growth investors may want to revisit Cloudflare while the stock is having a fire sale.

Cloudflare And Akamai Refuse To Pull Services Out Of Russia
Cloudflare and Akamai have each confirmed they will continue to operate in Russia, despite being urged to do otherwise.
Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince wrote in a blog post acknowledging that the company has received “Several calls to terminate” all of its services inside Russia, including by government.
“Our conclusion is that Russia needs more internet access, not less,” he said.
“We absolutely appreciate the spirit of many Ukrainians making requests across the tech sector for companies to terminate services in Russia. However, when what Cloudflare is fundamentally providing is a more open, private, and secure Internet, we believe that shutting down Cloudflare’s services entirely in Russia would be a mistake,” he said.
A similar sentiment was echoed by Akamai, saying that deliberately choosing to maintain its network presence in Russia means it can continue to support customers.
Despite the decision to stay, Akamai outlined that it will suspend all sales efforts in Russia and Belarus; terminate business with state-majority-owned Russian and Belarusian customers; comply with all application sanctions; and address humanitarian needs through the Akamai Foundation.
In further updates by Meta regarding its response to the Ukrainian invasion, the social media giant said it will now be hiding information about people’s followers, who they’re following, and people who are following each other for private Instagram accounts based in Ukraine and Russia.

What Is Human Factors And Ergonomics
Human Factors and Ergonomics are all around us! Any time you’ve engineered a product, process or system to work more efficiently with humans, you’ve practiced human factors.
Definitions from Scientific Literature The following report compiles and analyzes definitions of human factors and other related terms from a wide range of resources: Licht, D. M., Polzella, D. J., & Boff, K. Human Factors, Ergonomics, and Human Factors Engineering: An Analysis of Definitions.
Human Factors is a body of knowledge about human abilities, human limitations, and other human characteristics that are relevant to design.
Human factors engineering is the application of human factors information to the design of tools, machines, systems, tasks, jobs, and environments for safe, comfortable, and effective human use.
Human factors engineering is often considered synonymous with other terms such as ergonomics, human engineering, human factors, usability engineering, and user-centered design.
Ergonomics and human factors use knowledge of human abilities and limitations to design systems, organizations, jobs, machines, tools, and consumer products for safe, efficient, and comfortable human use.
Areas of interest for human factors practitioners may include the following: workload, fatigue, situational awareness, usability, user interface, learnability, attention, vigilance, human performance, control and display design, stress, visualization of data, individual differences, aging, accessibility, shift work, work in extreme environments, and human error.
Human Factors And Ergonomics
The goal of human factors is to reduce human error, increase productivity, and enhance safety, system availability and comfort with a specific focus on the interaction between the human and the engineering system.
Although the names change, human factors professionals apply an understanding of human factors to the design of equipment, systems and working methods to improve comfort, health, safety, and productivity.
Formed in 1946 in the UK, the oldest professional body for human factors specialists and ergonomists is The Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors, formally known as the Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors and before that, The Ergonomics Society.
According to it 2017 mission statement, ACE unites and advances the knowledge and skills of ergonomics and human factors practitioners to optimise human and organisational well-being.
The International Ergonomics Association is a federation of ergonomics and human factors societies from around the world.
Though some practitioners enter the field of human factors from other disciplines, both M.S. and PhD degrees in Human Factors Engineering are available from several universities worldwide.
Human performance modeling: A method of quantifying human behavior, cognition, and processes; a tool used by human factors researchers and practitioners for both the analysis of human function and for the development of systems designed for optimal user experience and interaction.
Chapter 1: Ergonomics And Wellness
Chapter 1 /………. “Ergonomics” can be simply defined as the practice of making the work environment safe and productive for the worker.
The process of ergonomics involves analyzing the worker, studying the tasks required and then designing an environment that optimizes the safety, health, comfort and performance of the worker.
Implementing the practice of ergonomics and human factors will help to maximize the safety and efficiency of any work environment and increase the productivity of workers and their organization.
Physical ergonomics considers human anatomical, anthropometric, physiological and biomechanical characteristics as they relate to physical activity.
The consequences of repetitive motion, vibration, force, working postures and the environment are the most common areas of consideration for physical ergonomics.
Cognitive ergonomics considers human cognitive abilities and limitations while working.
Participatory ergonomics use the expertise of the working group, capitalizing on the knowledge and experience of the workers themselves.

Skin Lightening Creams Are Still Racist, But Now We Know They’Re Also Chemically Toxic
These products are physically toxic to us, too, apparently, as new research confirms.
Even though the beauty industry has promised to do better, many skin lightening products sold online still contain dangerously high levels of mercury, according to a new report obtained by CNN. The report was put together by the Zero Mercury Working Group, a group of environmental and health NGOs from around the world.
They bought and tested 271 popular skin lightening products from online platforms like Amazon, eBay, and Alibaba.
Although the use of mercury in cosmetic products is tightly regulated in many countries, their study found that a staggering 47% of the soaps and creams they tested contained high levels of mercury – some with as much as 50,000 parts per million, per CNN. In addition to the fact that mercury is horrible for the environment, it’s also really awful for our health.
To be fair, we have known for a long time that skin whitening products contain mercury and the FDA even issued a warning about it in 2016 – but the chemical blocks the production of melanin, so it’s basically the holy grail fto dark-skin-haters.
In 2019, ZMWG actually called out the Pakistani company Chandni for selling a cream that had mercury in it and the company responded by removing its product from eBay, only to put it back on the market through a different seller once the dust had settled, according to CNN. Other brands whose skin lightening products contained high levels of mercury were Goree, Aneeza, Kim, Jiaoli and La Tia Mana.
Although it sucks that skin lightening products contain a deadly toxic chemical in them, it’s ultimately more frustrating that our racism, colorist, society has made this many people believe that they need to get whiter.
Skin Whitening Creams Containing High Levels Of Mercury Continue To Be Sold On EBay, Amazon And Other E-Commerce Sites, New Report Finds
Skin whitening products containing high levels of mercury continue to be sold on the world’s biggest e-commerce platforms, including websites run by eBay, Amazon and Alibaba, a new report by the Zero Mercury Working Group finds.
Of these, 129 products in 16 countries were found to have high levels of mercury and were being sold on more than 30 different sites.
47% of the skin whitening products tested by the ZMWG contained more than the permitted level of mercury, with many containing over 10,000 ppm of mercury – and some over 50,000ppm, according to the report.
Mercury has long been used in skin whitening products due to its ability to block the production of melanin in the skin – the pigment that gives color to skin.
On its website, Goree warns that fake products, including one named ‘Goree whitening cream’ are being sold using the company’s name and brand and cautions that these products contain high levels mercury.
eBay told CNN it employs “a combination of digital and manual surveillance tools to remove products that do not comply with applicable health and safety regulations including skin lightening products containing banned ingredients hydroquinone and mercury.” The company said it has blocked over 10,000 listing attempts for prohibited skin lightening products, but when asked why these measures are not working, given that products continue to be available on its platform, eBay did not respond.
According to the report, a greater number of the skin whitening products tested by ZMWG and found to contain high levels of mercury were available on eBay, Ubuy, Shopee and Flipkart.

Development of novel tyrosinase inhibitors from natural resources continues to arouse great attention, and in recent years, marine algae have attracted great attention in the search of natural tyrosinase inhibitor agents.
The regulation of tyrosinase gene expression was studied to facilitate our understanding of the effect of arbutin on the synthesis and expression of tyrosinase.
These results suggest that the depigmenting mechanism of arbutin in humans involves inhibition of melanosomal tyrosinase activity, rather than the suppression of the expression and synthesis of tyrosinase.
As shown in Figure 7, tyrosinase activity was reduced with decreasing copper concentration, when mushroom-derived tyrosinase, a metalloprotein containing copper, was incubated with ellagic acid.12 Since ellagic acid is known to chelate some specific metal ions, it is presumed to react specifically with the copper located at the active site of the tyrosinase molecule.
The extract prepared from the rhizome of Zingiber aromaticum Valeton, Zingiberaceae, exhibited no direct tyrosinase inhibitory effect but caused a decrease in tyrosinase production, which is melanogenesis on account of inhibition of the expression of tyrosinase gene.13Zingiber aromaticum is found widespread from India to Southeast Asia, grows to around 1.5 m tall, and is called ‘Imoniga ginger’ in Japan or ‘puynag’ and ‘lempuyang’ in Indonesia.
As described above, Imoniga ginger extract had no direct inhibitory effect on tyrosinase activity, unlike common melanogenesis inhibitors based on tyrosinase inhibitory action, such as Chinese tamarisk.
Since tyrosinase is responsible for melanin synthesis, depigmenting agents are used as tyrosinase inhibitors to provide skin uniformity and limit the speed in the pigmentation process.
Skin Whitening
Skin whitening, also known as skin lightening and skin bleaching, is the practice of using chemical substances in an attempt to lighten the skin or provide an even skin color by reducing the melanin concentration in the skin.
Skin lighteners’ main health risks are linked to: i) The overuse of topicalclobetasol, which can cause systemic steroid effects from daily usage, especially on broad skin regions; and concealed mercury content, which can lead to mercury poisoning depending on individual susceptibility.
Other motivations for skin whitening include desiring softer skin and wanting to conceal discolorations arising from pimples, rashes, or chronic skin conditions.
Skin whitening agents work by reducing the presence of melanin pigment in the skin.
Lye and ammonia, found in other skin whiteners, compounded the toxic effects of lead. Other practices done in the name of skin whitening included washing one’s face in urine and ingesting wafers of arsenic.
Skin lightening was often not well-received; women who used skin whiteners were described as artificial, while men who used skin whiteners were described as overly effeminate.
By the 1980s, critiques of skin whitening had become incorporated into the anti-apartheid movement, given skin whitening’s adverse consequences on health and its social implications of colorism.
Skin Whitening: The Global Market, The Risks And Who Makes And Sells The Products
Find out more about the global skin whitening market, the culture of colorism promoting it, the industry behind these products and the effect they can have on your health.
Skin whitening products often contain ingredients that are toxic when used cosmetically for long durations and without medical guidance as they have the ability not just to damage your skin but cause life-threatening ailments.
Skin whitening products have evolved from freckle removers and skin bleaches, to whiteners and lighteners as the culture and conversations around skin color have changed, but their production and sale have persisted as demand has not waned.
Many multinational companies sell a range of products marketed or labeled as skin whitening products, often described as targeting dark spots or uneven skin tone.
Activists have successful petitioned for the removal of skin whitening products from these sites, only for products to return later.
Activists and agencies combating the sale of skin whitening products containing toxic ingredients support calls for greater liability for third-party sellers, to reduce the sale of illegal products on these platforms.
Corporations were asked to respond to the naming of their products and the criticism that their products promote skin whitening and white beauty ideals in general.
Skin Lightening Products
Skin lightening products – also known as bleaching creams, whiteners, skin brighteners, or fading creams – work by reducing a pigment called melanin in the skin.
Skin color is determined by the amount of melanin in the skin.
Skin bleaching is a cosmetic treatment to reduce the prominence of skin discolorations and even out the color of the skin.
The use of mercury as an ingredient in skin lighteners is banned in the U.S. However, some skin lighteners produced outside the U.S. may still contain mercury.
Skin lighteners contain an active ingredient or a combination of ingredients that reduces the amount of melanin in the skin where it is applied.
Steroids in some skin lighteners may increase risk for skin infections, skin thinning, acne, and poor wound healing.
Special Precautions When Using a Skin LightenerTalk to your doctor before using a skin lightener and ask for specific instructions for the product.

Definition, Neocllasical Economics, Importance
Secondly, consumption behavior provides a good measure of the total national output in the economy.
Modern economists give a lot of importance to the level of consumption in the economy because it characterizes the economic system the country currently operates in.1.
According to economist Adam Smith, “Consumption is the sole purpose of all production.” It means that the production of goods and services is dependent on the level of consumption.
Consumption plays an important role in the income and employment theory under Keynesian economics as put forth by John Maynard Keynes.
Keynesian theory states that if consuming goods and services does not increase the demand for such goods and services, it leads to a fall in production.
Private consumption is divided into three categories: Durable goods that are defined as goods with a lifetime greater than three years, services that include travel and car repairs, and non-durable goods such as food and water that can be immediately consumed.
During an economic downturn, consuming durable goods decreases because the goods require a significant investment, and consumers will put off the purchases until economic conditions improve.
The Most Feared Of Diseases
During the time of Hippocrates, it is believed that consumption was the most widespread disease of the age.
There were no treatments; Hippocrates is reported to have instructed his students not to treat patients in the late stages of the disease.
As the most feared disease in the world, consumption was also called the ‘Great White Plague’ or the ‘White Death’; due to the extreme paleness of those affected.
Today we know tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
Patients with a healthy immune system, good nutrition and clean air are often able to overcome the disease.
Consumption was closely linked to both overcrowding and malnutrition making it one of the principal diseases of poverty.
In the early stages of the disease, when people show no signs of symptoms, the disease is said to be latent.
Definition, Economics, Examples, Types, & Facts
Consumption is distinct from consumption expenditure, which is the purchase of goods and services for use by households.
Consumption differs from consumption expenditure primarily because durable goods, such as automobiles, generate an expenditure mainly in the period when they are purchased, but they generate “Consumption services” until they are replaced or scrapped.
Neoclassical economists generally consider consumption to be the final purpose of economic activity, and thus the level of consumption per person is viewed as a central measure of an economy’s productive success.
First, aggregate consumption determines aggregate saving, because saving is defined as the portion of income that is not consumed.
Because aggregate saving feeds through the financial system to create the national supply of capital, it follows that aggregate consumption and saving behaviour has a powerful influence on an economy’s long-term productive capacity.
Second, since consumption expenditure accounts for most of national output, understanding the dynamics of aggregate consumption expenditure is essential to understanding macroeconomic fluctuations and the business cycle.
Microeconomists have studied consumption behaviour for many different reasons, using consumption data to measure poverty, to examine households’ preparedness for retirement, or to test theories of competition in retail industries.
What Is Consumption? Definition And Examples
Consumption means the amount of something that people and other entities use.
Consumption is the process of buying or using goods and services.
We base our whole economic system of reward and progress on purchasing and producing more and more goods and services.
“Economics sees consumption as the bedrock of our economic activity, and is necessary for our lives.”
The consumption function, in economics, is the relationship between consumption and disposable income.
Macroeconomics is a branch of economics that focuses on large-scale economic factors.
Microeconomics, the opposite of macroeconomics, is the study of the economic behavior of the economy’s individual units.
Consumption
Economists are particularly interested in the relationship between consumption and income, as modelled with the consumption function.
A similar realist structural view can be found in consumption theory, which views the Fisherian intertemporal choice framework as the real structure of the consumption function.
The Keynesian consumption function is also known as the absolute income hypothesis, as it only bases consumption on current income and ignores potential future income.
The consumption pattern of employers is different from the consumption pattern of workers.
One compares oneself with other people, and what has a significant impact on one’s consumption is one’s position among individuals and groups in society; Therefore, a person only feels an improvement in his situation in terms of consumption if his average consumption increases relative to the average level of society.
After getting used to a level of consumption, a person shows resistance to reducing it and is unwilling to reduce that level of consumption.
It describes how people make consumption decisions based on their current and future and past income, as they tend to distribute their consumption over their lifetime.
