Antimalarial Medications
The obvious exception is in waiting for confirmation to treat suspected malaria if the patient shows signs of severe malaria, and clinical suspicion for malaria is high.
This activity reviews the indications, contraindications, adverse events, and other key elements of antimalarial therapy in the clinical setting related to the essential points needed by members of an interprofessional team managing the care of patients with a malarial infection require treatment.
The clinical status of a patient can fall into two main categories: uncomplicated malaria or severe malaria.
IV quinidine should continue until the parasite density is less than 1% and the patient can tolerate oral medications.
Its use requires caution in patients with a previous history of GI disorders, conduction abnormalities, or patients taking QT-prolonging drugs.
Primaquine is contraindicated in pregnancy and breastfeeding and in patients with severe G6PD deficiency and acutely ill patients with a tendency to develop granulocytopenia.
Nurses and pharmacists should assist the team in educating the patient and family regarding the safe use of these medications.
Antimalarials: Drug Class, Uses, Side Effects, Drug Names
Antimalarial drugs work by killing the parasite present in the affected red blood cells.
There are several antimalarial drugs that differ in their structure with each working uniquely to kill the parasite.
Atovaquone: Inhibits the electron transport chain at cytochrome bc1 complex and collapses parasite mitochondrial membrane in Plasmodium.
Primaquine: Disrupts Plasmodium mitochondria, leading to the death of the parasite.
Pyrimethamine: Folic acid antagonist, selectively inhibiting plasmodial form of dihydrofolate reductase enzyme and reducing the production of folic acid required for nucleic acid synthesis in the parasite.
Quinidine: Builds up in the food vacuole of the parasite and forms a complex with heme and starves the Plasmodium to death.
The information contained herein is not intended to cover all possible side effects, precautions, warnings, drug interactions, allergic reactions, or adverse effects.
Antimalarial Medications
Antimalarial medications are amongst the most commonly used oral medications for rheumatologic skin diseases.
It is the most readily available and frequently prescribed antimalarial in the US. Antimalarial medications are extremely safe and do not overtly suppress the immune system.
It is important to note that there is a delayed response with antimalarial medications.
The antimalarial medications typically are very well tolerated, and serious side effects are extremely rare.
Patients who are pregnant or are considering having a child, should talk to their doctor before taking these medications.
Although there are few drug interactions with hydroxychloroquine, to be safe, patients should notify their physicians about all of the medications they are taking, including over-the-counter drugs and natural remedies.
The antimalarial medications do not work well in patients who smoke for uncertain reasons.
Antimalarial Medication
Incidence and distribution of the disease is expected to remain high, globally, for many years to come; moreover, known antimalarial drugs have repeatedly been observed to elicit resistance in the malaria parasite-including for combination therapies featuring artemisinin, a drug of last resort, where resistance has now been observed in Southeast Asia.
Specifically, antimalarial drugs may be used to treat malaria in three categories of individuals, those with suspected or confirmed infection, those visiting a malaria-endemic regions who have no immunity, to prevent infection via malaria prophylaxis, and or in broader groups of individuals, in routine but intermittent preventative treatment in regions where malaria is endemic via intermittent preventive therapy.
Probably one of the more prevalent antimalarial drugs prescribed, due to its relative effectiveness and cheapness, doxycycline is a tetracycline compound derived from oxytetracycline.
Anti-malarial drug resistance has been defined as: “The ability of a parasite to survive and/or multiply despite the administration and absorption of a drug given in doses equal to or higher than those usually recommended but within tolerance of the subject. The drug in question must gain access to the parasite or the infected red blood cell for the duration of the time necessary for its normal action.” Resistance to antimalarial drugs is common.
Drug resistance may lead to treatment failure, but treatment failure is not necessarily caused by drug resistance despite assisting with its development.
The resistance to anti-malarials may be increased by a process found in some species of Plasmodium, where a degree of phenotypic plasticity was exhibited, allowing the rapid development of resistance to a new drug, even if the drug has not been previously experienced.
Drugs with shorter half-life’s require more frequent administration to maintain the correct plasma concentrations, therefore potentially presenting more problems if levels of adherence and compliance are unreliable, but longer-lasting drugs can increase the development of resistance due to prolonged periods of low drug concentration.
Treating Lupus With Anti-Malarial Drugs
These medications may also prevent lupus from spreading to certain organs, such as the kidney and central nervous system and may help to reduce flares by as much as 50%. Plaquenil and other anti-malarials are the key to controlling lupus long term, and some lupus patients may be on Plaquenil for the rest of their lives.
Anti-malarials are particularly useful in treating discoid lupus, subacute cutaneous lupus, and mouth sores associated with lupus; they are also effective in treating rheumatoid arthritis and Sjogren’s syndrome.
Three anti-malarial drugs are prescribed for lupus symptoms.
Can anti-malarial drugs be taken with other lupus medications?
Yes, anti-malarials can be taken with other lupus medications, including corticosteroids, immunosuppressives, cytotoxic drugs, and NSAIDs.
Anti-malarial drugs may be given in combination with prednisone to reduce the amount of steroid needed to control lupus symptoms and thus to alleviate some of the side effects of the steroid.
No fetal abnormalities are known to have occurred from taking hydroxychloroquine, and physicians at several major universities have used anti-malarial drugs for years to treat pregnant women with lupus without negative side effects on the fetus.
Malaria Medications: Common Malaria Pills Used To Treat And Prevent Plasmodium Infection
Malaria pills aren’t 100% effective in preventing the disease.
Some malaria pills require that you start taking the drug 3 weeks before you depart.
You can still get malaria even if you’ve taken the pills.
Your doctor will try to decide what type of malaria infection you have in order to figure out which drug you should take.

It has been officially named as single screw pump or eccentric screw pump in China;.
It is mainly composed of a single-head spiral rotor and a double-head inner spiral stator.
Due to the irregular shape of the stator and the rotor, they mesh with each other to form a number of different sealed cavities, which separate the suction cavity and the discharge cavity, resulting in volume changes to achieve the purpose of liquid delivery; The stator and the rotor are interference fit, should not be run dry.
The progressive cavity pump is a kind of internal meshing closed rotor positive displacement pump.

Digital Signatures And Certificates
A digital signature is an electronic, encrypted, stamp of authentication on digital information such as email messages, macros, or electronic documents.
Signing certificate To create a digital signature, you need a signing certificate, which proves identity.
Certificates are issued by a certification authority, and like a driver’s license, can be revoked.
A certificate is usually valid for a year, after which, the signer must renew, or get a new, signing certificate to establish identity.
Certificate authority A certificate authority is an entity similar to a notary public.
It issues digital certificates, signs certificates to verify their validity and tracks which certificates have been revoked or have expired.
The following terms and definitions show what assurances are provided by digital signatures.
Digital Signature
A digital signature is an authentication mechanism that enables the creator of the message to attach a code that acts as a signature.
One digital signature scheme is based on RSA. To create signature keys, generate an RSA key pair containing a modulus, N, that is the product of two random secret distinct large primes, along with integers, e and d, such that e d 1.
One of the main differences between a digital signature and a written signature is that the user does not “See” what they sign.
An ink signature could be replicated from one document to another by copying the image manually or digitally, but to have credible signature copies that can resist some scrutiny is a significant manual or technical skill, and to produce ink signature copies that resist professional scrutiny is very difficult.
Digital signatures cryptographically bind an electronic identity to an electronic document and the digital signature cannot be copied to another document.
Digital signatures can be applied to an entire document, such that the digital signature on the last page will indicate tampering if any data on any of the pages have been altered, but this can also be achieved by signing with ink and numbering all pages of the contract.
In several countries, a digital signature has a status somewhat like that of a traditional pen and paper signature, as in the 1999 EU digital signature directive and 2014 EU follow-on legislation.
What Is A Digital Signature?
A digital signature is a mathematical technique used to validate the authenticity and integrity of a message, software or digital document.
A digital signature is intended to solve the problem of tampering and impersonation in digital communications.
Digital signature technology requires all parties trust that the individual creating the signature has kept the private key secret.
A TSP is a person or legal entity that performs validation of a digital signature on a company’s behalf and offers signature validation reports.
Digital signatures make it difficult for the signer to deny having signed something as the digital signature is unique to both the document and the signer and it binds them together.
A digital certificate is an electronic document that contains the digital signature of the issuing CA. It binds together a public key with an identity and can be used to verify that a public key belongs to a particular person or entity.
The digital signature will only authenticate if the signed data, i.e., document or representation of a document, is unchanged – if a document is altered after being signed, the digital signature will fail to authenticate.

3xxx: Alloys in which manganese is the principal alloying element, used as general-purpose alloys for architectural applications and various products 4xxx: Alloys in which silicon is the principal alloying element, used in welding rods and brazing sheet 5xxx: Alloys in which magnesium is the principal alloying element, used in boat hulls, gangplanks, and other products exposed to marine environments 6xxx: Alloys in which magnesium and silicon are the principal alloying elements, commonly used for architectural extrusions and automotive components 7xxx: Alloys in which zinc is the principal alloying element, used in aircraft structural components and other high-strength applications.
9xxx: Reserved for future use Wrought alloys that constitute heat-treatable aluminum alloys include the 2xxx, 6xxx, 7xxx, and some of the 8xxx alloys.
Alloy families for casting compositions include the following: 354 / Light Metals and Alloys 1xx.x: Controlled unalloyed compositions, especially for rotor manufacture 2xx.x: Alloys in which copper is the principal alloying element.
These alloys in the form of sheet usually are clad with a high-purity aluminum, a magnesium-silicon alloy of the 6xxx series, or an alloy containing 1% Zn. The coating, usually from 212 to 5% of the total thickness on each side, provides galvanic protection of the core material and thus greatly increases resistance to corrosion.
The principal alloys that are strengthened by alloying elements in solid solution are those in the aluminummagnesium series, ranging form 0.5 to 6 wt% Mg. These alloys often contain small additions of transition elements, such as chromium or manganese, and less frequently zirconium, to control the grain or subgrain structure, and iron and silicon impurities that usually are present in the form of intermetallic particles.
2xxx wrought alloys and 2xx.x casting alloys, in which copper is the major alloying element, are less resistant to corrosion than alloys of other series, which contain much lower amounts of copper.

The range of laser surface processes applied to light alloys includes simple remelting of the alloy surface; remelting with the addition of alloying elements or ceramic particles; cladding with a layer of material having different properties; and shock processing to create residual stresses in the surface.
For some aluminum alloys, the activation energy remains similar whereas for others, such as SAP, a sintered alloy powder with fine Al2O3 precipitates, the higher activation energy is much higher.
Aluminium Alloy
An Aluminium alloy is an alloy in which aluminium is the predominant metal.
Aluminium alloy surfaces will develop a white, protective layer of aluminium oxide if left unprotected by anodizing and/or correct painting procedures.
Each alloy is given a four-digit number, where the first digit indicates the major alloying elements, the second – if different from 0 – indicates a variation of the alloy, and the third and fourth digits identify the specific alloy in the series.
In alloy 3105, the number 3 indicates the alloy is in the manganese series, 1 indicates the first modification of alloy 3005, and finally 05 identifies it in the 3000 series.

Consider a connected electrical network N. We assume that N consists of only resistances, capacitances, inductances including mutual inductances, and independent voltage and current sources.
Electrical Network
An electrical network is an interconnection of electrical components or a model of such an interconnection, consisting of electrical elements.
An electrical circuit is a network consisting of a closed loop, giving a return path for the current.
A resistive circuit is a circuit containing only resistors and ideal current and voltage sources.
Active elements can inject power to the circuit, provide power gain, and control the current flow within the circuit.
To design any electrical circuit, either analog or digital, electrical engineers need to be able to predict the voltages and currents at all places within the circuit.
Circuit simulation software, such as HSPICE, and languages such as VHDL-AMS and verilog-AMS allow engineers to design circuits without the time, cost and risk of error involved in building circuit prototypes.
The circuit is treated as a completely linear network of ideal diodes.
What Is Electrical Network
Network is the most used word in an electric or electronic circuit while solving a circuit problem or creating a balanced circuit.
A network does not require to have a closed path, the open circuit also can be called as a network.
In such a way all the networks are not a circuit and all the circuit can be called as network.
An electrical network can be identified by four circuit names such as Node, Branch, Loop and Mesh.
A junction point of two or more active components or passive components connection is called Node or in a network is an equipotential part at which two or more circuit’s element are joined.
Loop is nothing but A closed path of an electric circuit where one or more than two meshes can be followed i.e. there may be many meshes in a loop.
To be a complete circuit, the circuit must have at least one loop.
Electric Circuit Or Electrical Networks: What Are They?
Electrical sources for delivering electricity to the circuit and are mainly electric generators and batteries.
Conducting path to carry electric current from one point to other in the circuit and these are mainly wires or conductors.
Various techniques by which voltage and current across any element in any electric circuit are determined is called electric circuit analysis.
If due to disconnection of any part of an electric circuit if there is no flow of current through the circuit, is said to be an open circuited.
If there is no discontinuity in the circuit and current can flow from one part to another part of the circuit, the circuit is said to be closed circuit.
When all elements of a circuit are connected one after another in tail to head fashion and due to which there will be only one path of flowing current then the circuit is called series circuit.
An electrical circuit in which some of the elements are connected in series and some of the elements are connected in parallel is called a series-parallel circuit.

Active Network An active network contains one or more sources of energy, they can supply energy to the network indefinitely.
An active network is also termed as electric circuit.
Linear Network A network is said to be linear, if it consists of the circuit elements that obeys the principle of homogeneity and superposition.

Compressed Natural Gas
CNG locomotives are usually diesel-electric locomotives that have been converted to use compressed natural gas generators instead of diesel generators to generate the electricity that drives the traction motors.
The ability of CNG to reduce greenhouse gas emissions over the entire fuel lifecycle will depend on the source of the natural gas and the fuel it is replacing…. Compressed natural gas vehicles require a greater amount of space for fuel storage than conventional petrol-powered vehicles.
According to studies by the Environmental Defense Fund and its partners, “Assuming EPA’s estimates for leak rates, compressed natural gas-fueled vehicles are not a viable mitigation strategy for climate change because of methane leakage from natural gas production, delivery infrastructure and from the vehicles themselves. For light-duty CNG cars to become a viable short-term climate strategy, methane leakage would need to be kept below 1.6% of total natural gas produced.”
As a consequence of this, LNG is often used for transporting natural gas over large distances, in ships, trains or pipelines, where the gas is converted into CNG before distribution to the end user.
Compressed natural gas is sometimes mixed with hydrogen, which increases the H/C ratio of the fuel and gives it a flame speed up to eight times higher than CNG. The lack of harmonized codes and standards across international jurisdictions is an additional barrier to NGV market penetration.
As of April 2020, the western state of Gujarat in India had 636 compressed natural gas stations, thereby having the highest number of CNG stations by state.
Per Commissioner Porter in June 2015: “Natural gas vehicles are becoming mainstream faster than expected. These collections are nearly double the amount collected last year at this time. At 15 cents per gallon equivalent, $3,033,600 of motor fuel tax equates to the sale of 20,224,000 gallon equivalents of natural gas.” The $3 million in Texas natural gas tax receipts is for both CNG and LNG for FY2015 through the May 2015.
Compressed Natural Gas
Compressed natural gas or CNG is simply natural gas mainly comprised of methane that is stored under high pressures, mainly as a means to transport it, or as storage for later use as vehicle fuel.
Although it’s still in its gaseous form, compressed natural gas is under more pressure and thus takes up a smaller volume than ordinary natural gas.
Vehicles of any size from sedans to heavy-duty transit vehicles like buses and street sweepers can be fueled by CNG. Currently, natural gas powers more than 12 million vehicles on the road with about 250,000 of these located in the United States.
There are several benefits to using natural gas as an alternative fuel for transportation.
Current estimates say that compressed natural gas costs about 40% less than gasoline.
Natural gas is flammable, however a leak is not always extraordinarily dangerous.
Because natural gas is lighter than air, it quickly dissipates when it leaks out of a tank and it is only flammable when the air/natural gas mixture is 5-15% natural gas.
Compressed Natural Gas
All fires require an initial input of heat for the fuel to reach a temperature before the fire can be self-sustaining.
Diffusion is a fairly slow process and a fire can be stifled by piling up planks over the fire, thus reducing the diffusion of air into the fire.
Throwing sand on a burning wood fire does three things: it separates the oxidant from the fuel and the fire is extinguished, it reduces the temperature of the hot burning wood by absorbing some of the heat, and thirdly, it acts as a barrier in reducing the diffusion of air to the fire.
Class A fires can be extinguished using water, foam, dry powder; B fires require dry powder, foam, CO2, or Halon; C and E require dry powder, CO2, or Halon; and D requires special dry powders or sand.
WaterThe purpose of adding water to a fire is to reduce the fire temperature to below the ignition point.
Water cannot be used in organic chemical fires, such as gasoline fires, because of the difference in densities between water and gasoline.
A foam is made by first compressing a mass of water containing a surfactant with nitrogen, and when required for fire extinguishing, the pressure is released and the foam which forms can then be sprayed onto the flames of a class A or B fire.
Alternative Fuels Data Center: Compressed Natural Gas Fueling Stations
Unlike gasoline or diesel stations, compressed natural gas stations are not “One size fits all.” Building a CNG station for a retail application or a fleet requires calculating the right combination of pressure and storage needed for the types of vehicles being fueled.
Most CNG stations include one of these two system types, but “Combination fill” stations include both types.
Fast-fill: Generally, fast-fill stations are best suited for retail situations where vehicles arrive randomly and need to fill up quickly.
Fast-fill stations receive fuel from a local utility line at a low pressure and then use a compressor on site to compress the gas to a high pressure.
CNG at fast-fill stations is often stored in the vessels at a high service pressure so the dispenser can deliver it to a vehicle quickly.
Unlike fast-fill stations, vehicles at time-fill stations are generally filled directly from the compressor, not from fuel stored in high pressure vessels.
Combination-fill stations typically cost more to build than the previous two station types.
Seven Teams Formed To Probe Murder Of Three Employees Of CNG Station
Seven teams formed to probe murder of three employees of CNG station – Hindustan Times.
Gurugram: A day after three employees of a compressed natural gas station on a service lane off National Highway 48 in Sector 31 were stabbed to death, police formed seven teams to identity the suspects who switched off the CCTV cameras before entering the premises.
Preet Pal Sangwan, assistant commissioner of police, said that police were scanning footage from over 100 CCTV cameras on the expressway, residential areas and establishments on the NH-48 but were yet to find a clue.
“We have also compiled data of former employees of the gas station as well as a group of men who had assaulted one of the victims after a scuffle broke out between them in 2020. We are hopeful of getting a lead soon,” he said.
“We are also going through the call detail records of all three victims to check for any personal or professional enmity. The intention was to kill all three of them- the suspects were armed with sharp-edged weapons, and did not take much time to attack and flee. They were sure the victims will not survive,” he said.
According to the police, the incident took place around 2.45am when the three employees were sleeping in the manager’s room.
Police said they questioned more than 20 people on Tuesday and are yet to question all former employees of the gas station, who have been called to join the investigation.

Digital Polymerase Chain Reaction
Digital polymerase chain reaction is a biotechnological refinement of conventional polymerase chain reaction methods that can be used to directly quantify and clonally amplify nucleic acids strands including DNA, cDNA, or RNA. The key difference between dPCR and traditional PCR lies in the method of measuring nucleic acids amounts, with the former being a more precise method than PCR, though also more prone to error in the hands of inexperienced users.
dPCR also carries out a single reaction within a sample, however the sample is separated into a large number of partitions and the reaction is carried out in each partition individually.
Instead of performing one reaction per well, dPCR involves partitioning the PCR solution into tens of thousands of nano-liter sized droplets, where a separate PCR reaction takes place in each one.
Different from many peoples’s belief that dPCR provides absolute quantification, digital PCR uses statistical power to provide relative quantification.
Droplet Digital PCR is a method of dPCR in which a 20 microliter sample reaction including assay primers and either Taqman probes or an intercalating dye, is divided into ~20,000 nanoliter-sized oil droplets through a water-oil emulsion technique, thermocycled to endpoint in a 96-well PCR plate, and fluorescence amplitude read for all droplets in each sample well in a droplet flow cytometer.
dPCR rose out of an approach first published in 1988 by Cetus Corporation when researchers showed that a single copy of the β-globin gene could be detected and amplified by PCR. This was achieved by diluting DNA samples from a normal human cell line with DNA from a mutant line having a homozygous deletion of the β-globin gene, until it was no longer present in the reaction.
Companies developing commercial dPCR systems have integrated technologies like automated partitioning of samples, digital counting of nucleic acid targets, and increasing droplet count that can help the process be more efficient.

Digital polymerase chain reaction is a biotechnology refinement of conventional PCR methods that can be used to directly quantify and clonally amplify nucleic acids, including DNA, cDNA, or RNA. From: Principles of Nutrigenetics and Nutrigenomics, 2020.
10.3.6 Digital polymerase chain reactionDigital PCR is not a new technique-the term was coined in 199950-but had in fact been used over the preceding decade.
51 The main difference between conventional or qPCR and digital PCR is that in digital PCR the reaction is divided into thousands or millions of reactions such that each reaction contains a single molecule of interest or not as the case might be, and a digital signal is obtained.
The limit of detection in digital PCR is defined by the number of wells that can be analyzed, which can affect the sensitivity of digital PCR. Digital PCR relies on well-based dilution of DNA templates, and its sensitivity increases as the number of well increases.
It uses a limiting dilution analysis together with Poisson distribution analysis to allow the absolute quantification of the number of copies of target DNA. Digital PCR uses an amplification reaction system similar to a system of standard dPCR. A droplet generator is used to separate each dPCR reaction mixture into 20,000 nL drops with each drop containing zero and one or more copies of the target DNA. After a conventional PCR procedure, the total number of individual positive or negative droplets is counted and recorded by a drop reader.
In contrast to RT-PCR where amplification is executed in one single reaction volume, the reaction mix is apportioned into thousands of tiny reaction cavities for individual PCR runs.
Problem 9.24 As a control experiment for a digital PCR run on an array having 3072 reaction through-holes, you want to populate the array with a quantitated human DNA sample such that half of the through-holes will NOT carry the target gene being amplified and they will be negative for amplification? The human DNA control sample has a concentration of 1.2 103 μg/mL.Solution 9.24.In Problem 9.22., we determined that it takes a volume of 0.1014 mL to fill 3072 through-holes of an array in which each through-hole can hold 33 nL. We want half of the 3072 through-holes to give a negative reaction.
Polymerase Chain Reaction Fact Sheet
To amplify a segment of DNA using PCR, the sample is first heated so the DNA denatures, or separates into two pieces of single-stranded DNA. Next, an enzyme called “Taq polymerase” synthesizes – builds – two new strands of DNA, using the original strands as templates.
This process results in the duplication of the original DNA, with each of the new molecules containing one old and one new strand of DNA. Then each of these strands can be used to create two new copies, and so on, and so on.
The cycle of denaturing and synthesizing new DNA is repeated as many as 30 or 40 times, leading to more than one billion exact copies of the original DNA segment.
The entire cycling process of PCR is automated and can be completed in just a few hours.
It is directed by a machine called a thermocycler, which is programmed to alter the temperature of the reaction every few minutes to allow DNA denaturing and synthesis.

Weak adsorption energy between dispersant and abrasive surface causes desorption of the dispersant during a particle collision, resulting in bridging flocculation.
At a high concentration of dispersants, free dispersants can promote flocculation of the stable slurry through a depletion mechanism [1.,2]. When two particle surfaces approach each other at a distance less than the effective diameter of unabsorbed dispersants, the dispersants are excluded from the interparticle gap, resulting in an osmotic pressure.
Qe is the adsorbed amount of dispersant per surface area of particle at equilibrium, Ce is the concentration of dispersant in the bulk solution, Qm is the maximum adsorbed amount of dispersant on particle surface and KL is related to the affinity of adsorption.
Identified through UV-visible spectroscopy that several additives can interact with Ce3+ on ceria surface [13.,14]. These additives can block the Ce3+ on abrasive surface through forming the Ce-O-Si bondings during SiO2 polishing, leading to a significant decrease of MRR. Thus, dispersants should be chosen considering their chemical interaction with abrasives.
Dispersant
A dispersant or a dispersing agent is a substance, typically a surfactant, that is added to a suspension of solid or liquid particles in a liquid to improve the separation of the particles and to prevent their settling or clumping.
Dispersants are used to prevent formation of biofouling or biofilms in industrial processes.
Dispersants are used as plasticizers or superplasticizers in concrete formulations to lower the use of water while retaining the needed slump property.
Dispersants are used as plasticizers in the gypsum slurry during wallboard manufacture, to reduce the amount of water used.
Dispersant was used in an attempt to clean up the Exxon Valdez oil spill though its use was discontinued as there was not enough wave action to mix the dispersant with the oil in the water.
Dispersant Corexit 9500 was used on the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
Dispersant Corexit 9527 was used to disperse an oil slick in the Gulf of Mexico in 1979, used over one thousand square miles of sea.

Mayo Clinic
During a mammogram, your breasts are compressed between two firm surfaces to spread out the breast tissue.
A newer type of mammogram called a 3D mammogram creates three-dimensional images of the breast.
Many medical facilities offer the 3D mammogram in addition to the traditional 2D mammogram for breast cancer screening.
Schedule a screening mammogram appointment at Mayo Clinic.
Mammograms are X-ray images of your breasts designed to detect cancers and other changes in breast tissue.
A diagnostic mammogram is used to investigate suspicious breast changes, such as a new breast lump, breast pain, an unusual skin appearance, nipple thickening or nipple discharge.
Your breast must be compressed to even out its thickness and permit the X-rays to penetrate the breast tissue.
Breast Cancer
Health care providers use mammograms to look for early signs of breast cancer.
A screening mammogram is a mammogram usually done for women who have no signs or symptoms of breast cancer.
Regular screening mammograms can help reduce the number of deaths from breast cancer among women ages 40 to 74.
This is because they can find breast cancer early and treatment can start earlier, maybe before it has spread. But screening mammograms can also have risks.
A diagnostic mammogram is done for people who have a lump or other signs or symptoms of breast cancer.
The signs can include breast pain, thickening of the skin of the breast, nipple discharge, or a change in breast size or shape.
A mammogram, along with other tests, can help your provider figure out whether you have cancer.
What Is A Mammogram?
Doctors use a mammogram to look for early signs of breast cancer.
Keep in mind that the technologist cannot tell you the results of your mammogram.
Each woman’s mammogram may look a little different because all breasts are a little different.
A doctor with special training, called a radiologist, will read the mammogram.
If you are due for a mammogram and have been recently vaccinated for COVID-19, ask your doctor how long you should wait after vaccination to get your mammogram.
Try not to have your mammogram the week before you get your period or during your period.
A radiologist reads your mammogram and then reports the results to you and your doctor.
Mammography
For the average woman, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends mammography every two years between the ages of 50 and 74, concluding that “The benefit of screening mammography outweighs the harms by at least a moderate amount from age 50 to 74 years and is greatest for women in their 60s”. The American College of Radiology and American Cancer Society recommend yearly screening mammography starting at age 40.
The authors of this Cochrane review write: “If we assume that screening reduces breast cancer mortality by 15% and that overdiagnosis and over-treatment is at 30%, it means that for every 2,000 women invited for screening throughout 10 years, one will avoid dying of breast cancer and 10 healthy women, who would not have been diagnosed if there had not been screening, will be treated unnecessarily. Furthermore, more than 200 women will experience important psychological distress including anxiety and uncertainty for years because of false positive findings.” The authors conclude that the time has come to re-assess whether universal mammography screening should be recommended for any age group.
Today, mammography is undergoing transition to digital detectors, known as digital mammography or Full Field Digital Mammography.
Concern by the FDA that digital mammography equipment demonstrate that it is at least as good as screen-film mammography at detecting breast cancers without increasing dose or the number of women recalled for further evaluation.
Digital mammography is a specialized form of mammography that uses digital receptors and computers instead of X-ray film to help examine breast tissue for breast cancer.
Mammography facilities in the United States and its territories are subject to the Mammography Quality Standards Act.
At this time, MQSA applies only to traditional mammography and not to related scans, such as breast ultrasound, stereotactic breast biopsy, or breast MRI. Many states in the US require a notification to be given to women with dense breasts to inform them that mammography is less accurate if breast tissue density is high.
National Cancer Institute
Screening mammograms can also find microcalcifications that sometimes indicate the presence of breast cancer.
Signs of breast cancer can include breast pain, thickening of the skin of the breast, nipple discharge, or a change in breast size or shape; however, these signs may also be signs of benign conditions.
Early detection of breast cancer with screening mammography means that treatment can be started earlier in the course of the disease, possibly before it has spread. Randomized clinical trials and other studies show that screening mammography can help reduce deaths from breast cancer among women ages 40 to 74 years at average risk of breast cancer, with the evidence of benefit being strongest for women ages 50 to 69 years.
Regular high-quality screening mammograms and clinical breast exams are the most sensitive ways to screen for breast cancer.
Regular breast self-exam, or BSE-that is, checking one’s own breasts for lumps or other unusual changes-is not specifically recommended for breast cancer screening.
Breast Imaging Reporting and Database System Category Assessment Follow-up 0 Need additional imaging evaluation Additional imaging needed before a category can be assigned 1 Negative Continue regular screening mammograms 2 Benign finding Continue regular screening mammograms 3 Probably benign Receive a 6-month follow-up mammogram 4 Suspicious abnormality May require biopsy 5 Highly suggestive of malignancy Requires biopsy 6 Known biopsy-proven malignancy Biopsy confirms presence of cancer before treatment begins.
In addition to making mammograms harder to read, dense breasts are a risk factor for breast cancer.
Mammography
Screening mammography is a specific type of breast imaging that uses low-dose x-rays to detect cancer early – before women experience symptoms – when it is most treatable.
Mammography is specialized medical imaging that uses a low-dose x-ray system to see inside the breasts.
Breast tomosynthesis, also called three-dimensional mammography and digital breast tomosynthesis, is an advanced form of breast imaging where multiple images of the breast from different angles are captured and reconstructed into a three-dimensional image set.
Breast tomosynthesis is performed using digital mammography units, but not all digital mammography machines are equipped to perform tomosynthesis imaging.
What are the benefits vs. risks? Benefits Screening mammography reduces the risk of death due to breast cancer.
While mammography is the best screening tool for breast cancer available today, mammograms do not detect all breast cancers.
Increased breast density makes it difficult to see a cancer on mammography.
Johns Hopkins Medicine
The development of digital mammography technology allows for improved breast imaging, in particular, for women less than 50 years of age, women with dense breast tissue, and women who are premenopausal or perimenopausal.
A screening mammogram is an X-ray of the breast used to detect breast changes in women who have no signs or symptoms of breast cancer.
A diagnostic mammogram is an X-ray of the breast used to diagnose unusual breast changes, such as a lump, pain, nipple thickening or discharge, or a change in breast size or shape.
Breast imaging experts explain breast imaging and the difference between screening and diagnostic mammograms.
Women older than 30 years should undergo diagnostic mammography if they have symptoms, such as a palpable lump, breast skin thickening or indentation, nipple discharge or retraction, erosive sore of the nipple, or breast pain.
Women who are at high risk for breast cancer or with a history of breast cancer may be routinely screened with mammography.
The Johns Hopkins Radiology and Radiological Science breast imaging section supports the ACR and SBI recommendation and encourage women to discuss their individual screening options with their doctor.

Much of the traditional territory of the Songhees now forms the core of the urbanized area of Victoria and surrounding municipalities.
The development of British Columbia’s capital city caused considerable disruption to the Songhees’ traditional economy and livelihood.
Recently the Songhees considered that the government of British Columbia had failed to honour the 1850 treaty and commenced a legal action against the province and the government of Canada for redress.
Victoria Shows Unprecedented Support Of Songhees Nation’S Ongoing Land Claim Negotiations
For more than 150 years the Songhees First Nation has lived on the fringe of Victoria, pushed off their unceded, ancestral land by colonial settlers.
“Songhees Nation lives on 67 acres of land out in Esquimalt. We have a couple of islands off Oak Bay, but I’m standing in our territory,” said Songhees Nation Chief Ron Sam, speaking from Centennial Square.
For the first time in its history, the City of Victoria is publicly backing the Nation’s ongoing land claim negotiations with the province.
The Songhees Nation has been locked in negotiations with the province, feds, and a myriad of municipalities in the Greater Victoria area for 25 years, over land claims.
If the properties are acquired through the treaty process, city zoning, bylaws, and property taxes wouldn’t apply, but the specific services agreements with Victoria are still to be worked out, as is the treaty itself.
The Songhees Nation hopes to have the entire process wrapped in three years.
“It’s possible to stand with nations and support them in the treaty process,” said Mayor Helps.
First Nations To Develop Industrial Site In Victoria
B.C. Hydro is poised to sell 4.5 acres on Rock Bay in Victoria to the Songhees and Esquimalt First Nations later this year for redevelopment.
It’s now set to become an economic generator for the Songhees and Esquimalt First Nations.
Key to the future of these lands is the adjacent three acres the First Nations acquired in 2016 from Transport Canada, Armstrong said in a statement on March 7.
The property being acquired from B.C. Hydro could be split into lots for more than one tenant, said Ross Marshall, senior vice-president with commercial real estate firm CBRE Ltd. in Victoria.
The property is being offered at a time when demand for industrial land in Victoria is “Exceptionally high,” he said.
In May 2019, B.C. Hydro and the First Nations announced they had agreed on conditional terms to buy the 4.5 acres, in the traditional territory of the Lekwungen people.
In 2015, murals painted by First Nations youth and based on designs by Butch Dick and Darlene Gait were unveiled around the property.

Lisa Helps
Lisa Helps is a Canadian politician, the current mayor of Victoria, British Columbia, with her inauguration taking place on December 4, 2014.
Helps was first elected to Victoria City Council as a city councillor in the 2011 municipal election.
Her mayoral campaign revolved heavily around a proposal to launch a more ambitious plan to deal with the issues of homelessness and affordable housing in the city and was also boosted by voter frustration over delays in the Johnson Street Bridge construction project and a controversial sewage treatment plan that has been a dominant issue in the city’s municipal politics for several years.
In June 2017, the city of Victoria created the Witness Reconciliation Program and the City Family.
The latter is a group composed of Mayor Helps, several Victoria city council members, and people appointed by the Esquimalt and Songhees Nations’ Councils.
The City Family’s objectives are to guide Victoria on how the city can respond to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s five calls to action intended for municipalities, and also to realize the TRC’s awareness mandate on a local scale and to promote reconciliation in general.
Helps oversaw the removal of the city’s statue of John A. Macdonald from the front of Victoria City Hall, which took place three days after the city council voted for it on August 8, 2018.
Mayor Lisa Helps
Lisa Helps became the 52nd Mayor of Victoria when she was elected on November 15, 2014, and was sworn into office for her second term on November 1, 2018.
Prior to being elected as Mayor, she served as a Victoria City Councillor for one term, from 2011 to 2014.
Mayor Helps works hard at City Hall and in the community to ensure that the city is prosperous, affordable, sustainable, and ready for the future.
Taking a long-term, big-picture perspective, she looks both around the city and around the world for innovative solutions to the pressing challenges facing us including climate change, lack of affordable housing, and growing social isolation and loneliness, especially among youth and seniors.
Mayor Helps believes that the best way to address complex challenges is to bring people from a diversity of backgrounds, perspectives and experiences together and to truly listen to each other.

In spite of her increasing unpopularity with city residents due to her involvement in numerous scandals, Helps won a second term as mayor of Victoria on October 20, 2018.
From the fall of 2015 through the summer of 2016, a “Tent city” populated by drug addicts and transients, primarily from outside of Victoria, developed on the grounds of the city’s downtown courthouse and quickly deteriorated into an unsanitary slum under Helps’ watch, with some of its occupants causing problems in the area by committing crimes, intimidating residents and negatively affecting businesses.
Helps paid lip service to the press and the public regarding the tent city, claiming that she had met with city and provincial officials to “Find a solution”, but Helps did very little to contribute toward a solution herself, forcing the British Columbia Liberal government and the provincial Supreme Court to take action to dismantle the tent city and move its occupants into affordable housing and shelters.
In June 2017, Helps proposed that Victoria’s residents “Take in” the city’s homeless population into their homes to “Solve” the homeless problem in the city.
The announcement drew immediate and heavy criticism against Helps, with those opposed correctly pointing out issues with drugs and/or mental illness experienced by the majority of homeless and transients, along with the inevitable probability of crimes being committed by any homeless accepting billeting from homeowners; Helps was also criticized for taking a “Do as I say, not as I do” attitude by refusing to take any homeless into her home herself, claiming that she had “Confidential documents” in her home as her excuse while ignoring homeowners’ realistic concerns.
On May 16, 2018, Helps and fellow left-wing members of Victoria’s city council told city residents that they should take part in a fast on May 25 to mark the start of the Islamic month of Ramadan – while Helps, in her comments, ignored what Islam really is.
In June 2021, Helps drew criticism when she announced the cancellation of Canada Day celebrations in Victoria in response to the discovery of the buried remains of what were alleged to be 215 children near the site of the former Kamloops Indian Residential School in Kamloops, British Columbia, as well as for hypocritically giving herself and her city council the day off with pay despite cancelling Canada Day celebrations for the public.

Renter households led by lone parents or households with at least one senior are the households most likely to be in Core Housing Need in the city.” Almost 30% of renters are in core housing need in Victoria.

City Land for Affordable Housing – City has purchased land and used City-owned land for close to 600 units of affordable housing currently in development, to be operated by the Capital Regional Housing Corporation and Pacifica Housing, to be affordable in perpetuity.
Early in 2022, staff will be bringing a report to Council to recommend that we upzone the entire city to allow for affordable housing if the housing is owned and operated by a non-profit housing society or the Capital Regional Housing Corporation, and is affordable in perpetuity.
Removing the need for rezoning makes it more likely more money will flow into Victoria to provide more affordable housing which is much needed for families, seniors, low-wage workers and people currently experiencing homelessness.

Backhoe Loaders
CASE N SERIES BACKHOE LOADERS. CASE backhoe loaders – extra power when you want it, precise control where you need it and a sophisticated-yet-simple machine that needs less from you to get more done, more quickly.
When your backhoe legacy dates back to the world’s first fully integrated production backhoe loader, you know they’re expected to do just about everything.
So you engineer them to be stronger and more responsive whether roading or loading or digging.
Backhoe Loader
A backhoe loader, also called a loader backhoe, loader excavator, digger in layman’s terms, or colloquially shortened to backhoe within the industry, is a heavy equipment vehicle that consists of a tractor-like unit fitted with a loader-style shovel/bucket on the front and a backhoe on the back.
The world’s first backhoe loader with factory warranty was introduced in the U.S. by J.I. Case in 1957.
Their Model 320 was the world’s first serial backhoe loader.
Although based on a tractor, a backhoe loader was and is almost never called a tractor when both the loader and the backhoe are permanently attached.
Because digging while on tires intrinsically causes the machine to rock, and the swinging weight of the backhoe could cause the vehicle to tip, most backhoe loaders use hydraulic outriggers or stabilizers at the rear when digging and lower the loader bucket for additional stability.
Subcompact tractors, the size between a compact tractor and lawn tractor, are also often sold in backhoe loader setup, sometimes with a belly-mounted mower also included.
