Servomotor Motors
With a built-in controller and driver, these stepper motors come ready to program and operate.
When the shaft stops, it holds its position even when a counteracting force is applied to the load. All are bipolar hybrid stepper motors, which deliver greater torque, precision, and efficiency than other types of stepper motors.
These stepper motors are good for precise, repetitive movements, such as those made by the head of a 3D printer.
All are bipolar hybrid stepper motors, which deliver greater torque, precision, and efficiency than other types of stepper motors.
Stepper motors work similar to a traditional linear motion system; attach the load to the flanged nut, which travels back and forth along the lead screw.
Stepper motors give you the most design versatility because there are two ways to move your load: on the motor body or on the ends of the lead screw.
These motors come with a speed control with a feedback sensor that adjusts power to maintain your set speed.
Servo Motors
A servo motor is a rotary actuator that allows for precise control of angular position.
It also requires a servo drive to complete the system.
Kollmorgen’s family of servo motors gives you unprecedented choice and flexibility so you can select the best servo motor for your application.
By pairing our servo motors with our family of plug-and-play servo drives, selecting the right motion control products has never been easier.
Standard Kollmorgen servo motors and servo drives offer the best of both worlds – the exact specifications of a custom solution with the faster delivery times and lower cost of a standard catalog product.
Our servo motors are designed for even the most challenging environments.
Whether you need a servo motor to withstand the rigorous washdown routines of food and beverage production, to offer explosion proof performance in oil and gas operations, or operate under extreme temperature conditions, Kollmorgen has you covered.
Servomotor
Servomotors are not a specific class of motor, although the term servomotor is often used to refer to a motor suitable for use in a closed-loop control system.
The very simplest servomotors use position-only sensing via a potentiometer and bang-bang control of their motor; the motor always rotates at full speed.
The lack of feedback of a stepper motor limits its performance, as the stepper motor can only drive a load that is well within its capacity, otherwise missed steps under load may lead to positioning errors and the system may have to be restarted or recalibrated.
The encoder and controller of a servomotor are an additional cost, but they optimise the performance of the overall system relative to the capacity of the basic motor.
These motor + linear encoder systems avoid inaccuracies in the drivetrain between the motor and linear carriage, but their design is made more complicated as they are no longer a pre-packaged factory-made system.
The type of motor is not critical to a servomotor and different types may be used.
For ultimate performance in a compact package, brushless AC motors with permanent magnet fields are used, effectively large versions of Brushless DC electric motors.
Introduction To Servo Motors
Servo motors are self-contained electric devices that rotate or push parts of a machine with great precision.
The heart of a servo is a small direct current motor, similar to what you might find in an inexpensive toy.
Gears in an inexpensive servo motor are generally made of plastic to keep it lighter and less costly.
This automatic seeking behavior of servo motors makes them perfect for many robotic applications.
Positional rotation servo: This is the most common type of servo motor.
Continuous rotation servo: This is quite similar to the common positional rotation servo motor, except it can turn in either direction indefinitely.
How fast must the servo rotate from one position to another? How hard will it have to push or pull? Do I need a positional rotation, continuous rotation, or linear servo? How much overshoot is allowable? The less you pay for the servo, the less mechanical power it will have to muster and the less precision it will have in its movements.
Allen-Bradley United States

Basic Working Principle Of ServoMotor
Servomotor, in that word itself we get full functional explanation.
It is a part of closed loop system and comprised with several parts namely control circuit, servomotor, shaft, amplifier, either encoder or resolver.
Servomotor is a self-controlled electrical device that rotates a machine with high efficiency and with great precision.
The output shaft of the motor moved at particular angle, position and velocity and regular motor does not have.
Servomotor is a regular DC motor and couples it with a sensor for positional feedback.
The controller is the most important part of the motor designed and used specifically for this purpose, servomotor is closed loop mechanism that incorporates position, and feedback already controlled the rotational speed position.
The meter is controlled with the electrical signal either analog or digital which determines the amount of movement which represents the final command position for the shaft.
Types, Construction, Working, Controlling & Applications
There are many types of motors like DC, Servo, and Stepper available for different types of application.
There are numbers of types of servos are available in the market, AC, DC, continuous, positional and linear servo motor.
Types of Servo Motors On the Basis of Rotation Positional Rotation Servos: Positional servos can rotate the shaft in about half of the circle.
DC servos are most used servo motors among all the types.
There are two types of AC servo motors one is 2 phase and the second is 3 phase.
Mainly two-phase squirrel cage servo motor is used for low power applications.
On the basis of the feedback signal, the motor starts working.

Do Not Order From Thriftbooks.Com!!
You may order at your own risk, however I had the absolute worst experience with this company.
I had a long road trip coming up and had heard great things about a book, although E-books are much easier, there is still something about flipping actual pages for me.
Any who, I go to their page and notice free shipping for orders over $10 so I get a few more.
Nearly 2 weeks later I get the 2 books I wasn’t really thrilled about, but the book I was super excited about didn’t arrive.
Come to find out someone else had ordered the book at the same time so my order was canceled with no notification to myself.
So now my road trip will be made without the book 🙁 I’m still not ready to purchase as a Ebook, are there any suggestions for great used book online stores?

The Official Guide To Portland
Covering an entire city block, Powell’s City of Books is more than a great bookstore: It’s a microcosm of Portland, packed with smart and eclectic offerings and passionate people.
Founded in 1971 in a former car dealership on a then-derelict corner, Powell’s has grown into a Portland landmark and the world’s largest new and used bookstore – and its location is now at the heart of the city, bridging the Pearl District, downtown and the West End.
Serious book lovers should plan to visit the Rare Book Room, which houses several thousand valuable books.
There is a Powell’s outpost on Southeast Hawthorne Boulevard as well as another location in Beaverton, southwest of Portland.
Portland Book Festival returns every November with an impressive lineup of local and national authors.
For its first time, the event heads to the Moda Center in North Portland.
Join in for a special event featuring Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Anthony Davis in an hour-long conversation hosted by composer Damien Geter, Portland Opera’s interim Music Director & Artistic Advisor.
Its landmark store, Powell’s Books, must finally build a viable online business while recapturing its downtown success.
Over its half-century in the heart of Portland, Powell’s Books has survived an unending array of foundational threats – the oft-anticipated death of reading, the rise of Amazon, the supposedly irretrievable abandonment of the American downtown.
“People don’t come downtown in the way that they used to prepandemic,” said Emily Powell, 42, owner and president of Powell’s Books, the business founded by her grandfather in 1971.As a 6-year-old, she helped her father tend the cash register during the Christmas shopping crush.
Among the people overseeing Powell’s, gnawing concerns about downtown coincide with an eagerness to seize an opportunity for reinvention.
Ms. Powell maintains that her company was merely following the terms of its contract with the union, which specifies that laid-off workers surrender their seniority if they are recalled after 180 days.
“We work there because we’re book nerds. We love the culture of Powell’s. We love helping customers with books.”
Powell’s is positioning itself as a local bookstore, run by people who cater to idiosyncratic tastes, now reachable online.
Powell’S Books
Powell’s Books is a chain of bookstores in Portland, Oregon, and its surrounding metropolitan area.
The new branch was not a replica of its City of Books location; Powell was concerned that the “Edgy” neighborhood of its headquarters location was limiting its customer base, so the new store was “Fairly fancy” with white shelving, a tile floor, and banners over the aisles.
That same month, Powell’s announced it would close its technical bookstore on the North Park Blocks, moving its sections on math, science, computing, engineering, construction and transportation into “Powell’s Books Building 2” at the corner of 10th and Couch Street, near the main City of Books location; the consolidation was in response to a five-year decline in brick-and-mortar sales of technical books in favor of online sales.
In October 2010, Powell’s announced it had bought 7,000 books from the library of author Anne Rice; Powell’s offered these association copies on their website.
Starting in May 2012, Powell’s began offering access to print on demand books via the Espresso Book Machine.
In late 2014 “Powell’s Books Building 2” was closed and the technical books at that location were moved into the main City of Books location.
Powell’s Books was featured in television ads for the No campaign, and Emily Powell signed a statement opposing the measure in the voter’s pamphlet.

Bonus Pay: What Is It?
Bonus pay is compensation in addition to the amount of pay specified as a base salary or hourly rate of pay.
Bonus pay is additional pay given to an employee on top of their regular earnings; it’s used by many organizations as a thank-you to employees or a team that achieves significant goals.
Bonus pay is also offered to improve employee morale, motivation, and productivity.
Discretionary bonuses: An employer may distribute bonus pay at their discretion, perhaps as a reward for high performance, for an employee-of-the-month program, or for a successful referral of a new employee.
Contracted Bonus Payments Executives, especially those in senior roles, may have contracts that require the company to pay out bonuses.
A company might pay one employee $50,000 a year and make them eligible for a 5% bonus if goals are met, but pay another employee $100,000 a year with a possible 10% bonus.
Some sales organizations reward employees with bonus pay without commission.
Bonus Payments Explained: Payment Of Bonus Act
Once the company gets firmly established, employers not only manage payroll but also want to compensate their employees with additional income as bonus payments.
The Payment of Bonus Act 1965 is applicable to all factories and companies who have 20 or more employees employed anytime with them during an accounting year.
The act states that a minimum bonus of 8.33% and a maximum bonus of 20% of wages can be awarded as a bonus to employees.
An employee drawing at least a monthly salary of Rs 21,000/- and has served at least 30 days during an accounting year in the company is qualified for the bonus payment.
According to the Bonus Payment Act, a minimum bonus of 8.33% of wage or salary earned by the employee for an accounting year or Rs 100, whichever is higher shall be paid to the employee.
The employer shall also pay a higher bonus to employees if, in a year, the allocable surplus exceeds the amount of minimum bonus payable to the employees.
Employers can disqualify employees from receiving bonus payments on the basis of any misconduct, absenteeism, or fraud.
Calculations, Examples, & More
Once your business is firmly planted, you might be able to give more money to your employees.
Bonus pay is money you give employees beyond their existing base wages.
If you promise a bonus to an employee, you are legally liable to give the employee a bonus.
You can add the bonus pay to the employee’s wages.
If you give a nondiscretionary bonus to a nonexempt employee, you must include the bonus when calculating overtime wages.
If you withheld income tax from the employee’s regular wages in the current or preceding calendar year, withhold a flat 22%. For example, if you give an employee a $200 bonus, you will withhold $44 for supplemental tax.
If you want an employee to receive a certain bonus amount after you subtract payroll taxes, you will have to gross-up the bonus.
Fact Sheet #56C: Bonuses Under The Fair Labor Standards Act
This fact sheet provides general information regarding bonuses and the regular rate of pay under the FLSA for non-exempt employees.
For information regarding nondiscretionary bonuses and employees employed as executive, administrative, professional, or outside sales employees, who are exempt from the FLSA’s minimum wage and overtime requirements, see Fact Sheet #17U. The FLSA requires that most employees in the United States be paid at least the federal minimum wage for all hours worked and overtime pay at not less than time and one-half the regular rate of pay for all hours worked over 40 hours in a workweek.
Unless specifically noted, payments that are excluded from the regular rate may not be credited towards overtime compensation due under the FLSA. Information regarding additional exclusions from the regular rate is available in Fact Sheet #56A. Discretionary Bonuses.
A discretionary bonus may not be credited towards overtime compensation due under the FLSA. Nondiscretionary Bonuses.
Such bonuses are nondiscretionary because the employees know about and expect the bonus.
Certain longevity bonuses are excludable from the regular rate as gifts when given as a reward for service or tenure and provided the bonus payments are not made pursuant to a collective bargaining agreement or a city ordinance or policy.
Sign-on bonuses given to employees with or without clawback provisions may be excluded as gifts or may be excluded under 29 U.S.C. 207(e)(2) as other payments that are not compensation for hours of employment, or otherwise tied to quality or quantity of work performed.
The Tax Effects Of Paying Bonuses To Employees
Many employers may prefer paying bonuses to employees instead of giving raises.
Bonuses are a great incentive for employees, but before you decide to hand them out, be sure you know the tax implications for your business and your employees.
Bonuses are deductible to your business, in the tax category of “Payments to employees.” If you give bonuses to some employees and not others, make sure you have a clear rationale for this difference.
Employee bonuses are always taxable to employees as an employee benefit, no matter how or when they are paid.
Bonuses can be discretionary or non-discretionary for certain exempt employees.
Employees who are executives, administrators, professionals, and outside sales employees are exempt from federal minimum wage and overtime pay requirements, as long as their income is above a specific level.
Non-discretionary bonuses must be added to weekly gross pay for overtime purposes for hourly employees and for exempt employees who are eligible for overtime.

NC Medicaid established a goal of providing a uniform bonus amount as close as possible to the legislative goal of $2,000 for each eligible direct care worker and support staff employee.
Bonus payments will be combined with regular claims payments in a single EFT transaction.
Providers may review a list of NPIs with submissions under review under Resource Documents on NC Medicaid’s Direct Care Worker Initiative webpage.
At the end of the review process, NC Medicaid will publish a special bulletin if there is additional information to provide relevant to the second round of payments.
Additional information regarding all DCW initiatives can be found on NC Medicaid’s Direct Care Worker Initiative webpage.
Bonus Tax Rate 2021: How Bonuses Are Taxed
A bonus is always a welcome bump in pay, but it’s taxed differently from regular income.
Instead of adding it to your ordinary income and taxing it at your top marginal tax rate, the IRS considers bonuses to be “Supplemental wages” and levies a flat 22 percent federal withholding rate.
In addition to the 22 percent federal tax, you’ll also pay Social Security tax and Medicare tax.
The result is often a headache for the employer who is figuring the tax withholdings and possibly more money withheld from your bonus.
With the aggregate method, the tax withholding on your bonus is calculated at your regular income tax rate.
This would cause the tax withholding on your bonus to be calculated as if you were earning $192,000 per year, bumping you up to the 32 percent tax bracket.
If the tax withholding on your bonus turns out to be higher than necessary, you might receive a tax refund for overpayment.

Fluorescence Image-Guided Surgery
Fluorescence guided surgery, is a medical imaging technique used to detect fluorescently labelled structures during surgery.
FGS is performed using imaging devices with the purpose of providing real time simultaneous information from color reflectance images and fluorescence emission.
Fluorescence excitation is accomplished using various kind of light sources.
The main disadvantage of such devices is that operating theater lights can interfere with the fluorescence emission channel, with a consequent decrease of signal-to-background ratio.
The ability of collecting light is much reduced compared to standard imaging lenses used for open surgery devices.
FGS devices can also be implemented for robotic surgery.
Indocyanine Green has been widely used as a non-specific agent to detect sentinel lymph nodes during surgery.

Fluorescence Image-Guided Surgery And Cancer
In cancer treatment, surgery remains the best option for removing tumors from affected patients.
Cancer surgery relies heavily on visual inspection and physical examination by surgeons as well as intraoperative histopathological examination of frozen tumor margins.
FGS has been used to treat several cancers including head and neck cancer, ovarian cancer, breast cancer, melanoma, and lung cancer.
In breast cancer survival rate is now over 90%. The research utilized a novel imaging system and approach to FGS to provide real-time imaging of the abdomen with fluorescent labeling of ovarian cancer cells during debulking surgery to remove residual tumor cells which can be too small or hidden from surgeons to ensure proper removal and prevent resurgence of the cancer.
The chemical probe then fluoresces at near-infrared wavelength, even in the presence of the smallest cancer cells, making them easier to image and thus remove.
Fluorescence image-guided surgery is a cutting-edge scientific technique that is improving the success of cancer surgeries, helping to detect tumors more easily and at an earlier stage, prevent resurgence and proliferation of cancer cells, and improve the survivability of cancer sufferers.

16 Things To Know About Donating Eggs
If you’ve ever wondered about donating your eggs, but have a ton of questions about the process, you’re not alone.
Dr. Levine says that the FDA treats eggs just like any other organs when it comes to donations, and there are lots of rules and regulations in place to become an egg donor, just like with any tissue donation.
There are three main ways of donating your eggs: through an agency, through a clinic that runs a donor service, or doing a directed egg donation.
There’s also directed egg donation, which could be a donor donating eggs directly to a family member or friend, but without the process of the agency or clinic doing the matchmaking for them.
Michele Purcell, director of the egg donor program at Shady Grove Fertility in Maryland, discourages that practice, and says “You really want to identify women that are doing it for the right reasons. And that’s that they’re helping someone else while also helping themselves, and sometimes, those ads that patients may place, the emphasis is much more on the financial benefit. And you worry about situations like that, that the woman might be donating her eggs just based on the financial compensation. Then in the long run, she might regret that donation [which] could impact her for the rest of her life.”
In the physical exam, they’ll also check your blood work and do an ultrasound to see how many eggs you have, and the likelihood of getting a good outcome.
Regardless of if you want to donate your eggs through a clinic or an agency, you can still call up clinics and see which agencies they work with.

Heat treating is often used to alter the mechanical properties of a metallic alloy, manipulating properties such as the hardness, strength, toughness, ductility, and elasticity.
There are two mechanisms that may change an alloy’s properties during heat treatment: the formation of martensite causes the crystals to deform intrinsically, and the diffusion mechanism causes changes in the homogeneity of the alloy.
The specific composition of an alloy system will usually have a great effect on the results of heat treating.
Proper heat treating requires precise control over temperature, time held at a certain temperature and cooling rate.
With the exception of stress-relieving, tempering, and aging, most heat treatments begin by heating an alloy beyond a certain transformation, or arrest, temperature.
The alloy will usually be held at this temperature long enough for the heat to completely penetrate the alloy, thereby bringing it into a complete solid solution.
Complex heat treating schedules, or ” cycles,” are often devised by metallurgists to optimize an alloy’s mechanical properties.
Heat Treatment: Processes And Applications
Heat treatment refers to the controlled process of heating and cooling a material in order to improve its properties, performance, and strength.
Most metals and alloys are heat treated in one way or another, and the understanding and science of heat treatment have been developed over the past 100 to 125 years.
Industries, all using heat treatment to improve the properties of materials, especially steel.
Heat treatment is a manufacturing process in which a material, generally a metal or alloy, is altered by heating and cooling cycles under complex thermal boundary conditions and wide temperature ranges.
Heat treatment generally consists of controlled heating, soaking and cooling steps.
There are five techniques used for the heat treatment of materials.
Here is an overview of these principal heat treatment processes and how they affect the material.
Heat Treatment- Annealing, Normalizing, Hardening, Tempering, Nitriding
In very simple words I am going to explain the heat treatment process consists of a succession of heating and cooling cycles applied to a metal or alloy in order to obtain the desired properties, such as hardness, ductility, tensile strength, toughness, grain size, etc.
Normalizing is a heat treatment process similar to annealing in which the Steel is heated to about 50 degree Celsius above the upper critical temperature followed by air cooling.
This heat treatment process is usually carried for low and medium carbon steel as well as alloy steel to make the grain structure more uniform and relieve the internal stresses.
Hardening is a heat treatment process carried out to increase the hardness of Steel.
This heat treatment process carried out for steel parts which have been already hardened, in order to reduce bitterness and unequal stress develop as a result of hardening.
Nitriding is a process of surface hardening in which nitrogen gas is used to obtain a hard surface for the Steel.
Solution Heat Treatment is a treatment in which an aluminum alloy is heated to a suitable temperature and held at this temperature for a sufficient length of time to allow the desired constituent to enter into the solid solution, followed by rapid cooling to hold the constituent in the solution.
Heat Treatment: What It Is And How It Works
That’s because heat treating allows a metal piece to be improved in order for the material to better withstand wear and tear.
Heat treatment involves heating a metal or alloy to a specific temperature and then cooling it to harden the material.
Heat treatment can be used at different stages in the manufacturing process to change certain properties of that metal or alloy.
Knowing what temperatures to heat and cool metals at, as well as how long each step of the process should take for a specific metal or alloy is extremely complicated.
Without heat treating metal, especially steel, metal parts for everything from airplanes to computers wouldn’t function properly, or might not even exist in the first place.
Because heat-treated metals are often stronger than non-heat treated metals, treating metal pieces upfront prevents corrosion, which won’t result in the replacement of expensive metal parts later on or as frequently.
There are various steps when dealing with heat treating metals, General Kinematics provides equipment designed to aid in this process and to increase manufacturing productivity.

Heat Treatment: Types Of Heat Treatment Process
In simple words, heat treatment is a process of heating the metal, holding it there for some time, and then cooling it back.
The first step in the heat treatment process is heating the metal.
Below are different furnaces that are used for heating metals in heat treatment process.
Annealing is a heat treatment process that is used to soften the metal.
Advantages Of Heat Treatment Heat treatment assist in improving the ductility of metal in the annealing process.
Heat treatment is an essential process in the material science industry to improve metal properties for commercial purposes.
Heat treatment is a process of heating the metal to a certain temperature, keeping it there for some time, and then cool it down.

Casablanca
In later years she stated, “I feel about Casablanca that it has a life of its own. There is something mystical about it. It seems to have filled a need, a need that was there before the film, a need that the film filled.”
A remembrance written for the film’s 75th anniversary published by The Washington Free Beacon said, “It is no exaggeration to say Casablanca is one of the greatest films ever made,” making special note of the “Intellectual nature of the film” and saying that “While the first time around you might pay attention to only the superficial love story, by the second and third and fourth viewings the sub-textual politics have moved to the fore.”
To Pauline Kael, “It’s far from a great film, but it has a special appealingly schlocky romanticism …” Umberto Eco wrote that “By any strict critical standards … Casablanca is a very mediocre film.” He viewed the changes that the characters manifest as inconsistent rather than complex: “It is a comic strip, a hotchpotch, low on psychological credibility, and with little continuity in its dramatic effects.” However, he added that because of the presence of multiple archetypes that allow “The power of Narrative in its natural state without Art intervening to discipline it,” it is a film reaching “Homeric depths” as a “Phenomenon worthy of awe.”
On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 99% of 122 critics’ reviews are positive, with an average rating of 9.4/10. The website’s consensus reads, “An undisputed masterpiece and perhaps Hollywood’s quintessential statement on love and romance, Casablanca has only improved with age, boasting career-defining performances from Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman.” On Metacritic, the film has a perfect score of 100 out of 100, based on 18 critics, indicating “Universal acclaim.” It is one of the few films in the site’s history to achieve a perfect aggregate score.
Film critic Roger Ebert pointed out the plot of the film Barb Wire was identical to that of Casablanca.
Bright Lights Film Journal stated in 2007, “It is one of those rare films from Hollywood’s Golden Age which has managed to transcend its era to entertain generations of moviegoers … Casablanca provides twenty-first-century Americans with an oasis of hope in a desert of arbitrary cruelty and senseless violence.”
Casablanca has been subjected to many readings; Semioticians account for the film’s popularity by claiming that its inclusion of stereotypes paradoxically strengthens the film.

After the 1947-1949 Palestine war Tel Aviv began the municipal annexation of parts of Jaffa, fully unified with Jaffa under the name “Tel Aviv” in April 1950, and was renamed to “Tel Aviv-Yafo” in August 1950.
From the beginning of 1970s, the common image of Tel Aviv became that of a decaying city, as Tel Aviv’s population fell 20%. In the 1970s, the apparent sense of Tel Aviv’s urban decline became a theme in the work of novelists such as Yaakov Shabtai, in works describing the city such as Sof Davar and Zikhron Devarim.
These include the History section of the official Tel Aviv-Yafo Centennial Year website; the Ahuzat Bayit collection, which focuses on the founding families of Tel Aviv, and includes photographs and biographies; and Stanford University’s Eliasaf Robinson Tel Aviv Collection, documenting the history of the city.
The northern side of Tel Aviv is home to Tel Aviv University, Hayarkon Park, and upscale residential neighborhoods such as Ramat Aviv and Afeka.
Tel Aviv is home to the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, Israel’s only stock exchange, which has reached record heights since the 1990s.

History, Population, & Points Of Interest
Proximity to the old city of Jaffa and a Jewish rural-agricultural hinterland were important in Tel Aviv’s early stages, as was its status as the first modern Jewish city in Palestine.
Tel Aviv forms the core of Israel’s largest metropolitan area, representing more than two-fifths of Israel’s population.
Character of the city Tel Aviv’s character is frequently contrasted to that of Jerusalem.
Tel Aviv is depicted as the city “That never stops,” a thriving, vibrant, modern, dynamic, and multicultural city, one generally characterized as tolerant, secular, and liberal, while also materialistic and hedonistic-a city of the present, lacking deep historical roots.
Whereas past perceptions marked Tel Aviv as the stronghold of the non-pioneering segment of Israeli society, later views have come to acknowledge Tel Aviv’s importance as the engine of the Israeli economy, and its rich cultural and entertainment amenities have been increasingly appreciated.

In some neighborhoods, the streets were designed to channel the sea air through open boulevards while green spaces provide needed shade.
Working with CRO Efrat Makin-Knafo, Deputy CRO Omri Carmon, City partners at the City Architect and Environmental Authority and scientists from Columbia and Tel Aviv University, the Accelerator pioneered a new method of prioritizing areas of the city most exposed and vulnerable to heat.
Informed by a detailed microclimate and thermal imagery study, urban design analysis and 3D modeling, and urban design and programmatic toolkit for urban heat based on global practice and academic research, the team brought together stakeholders to design projects that mitigate heat impacts and create a vibrant and accessible public realm.
In November, 2019, municipal leaders, non-government experts, designers, academic experts, and community leadership participated in an intensive facilitated design session to visualize design concepts in public spaces.
They included a redesign of the playground at the Shapira Community Center that brings together programs from across the neighborhood, reclamation of a bike lane and public program in ventilation corridors, and pedestrianization of Mesilat Yesharim Street to increase public programs and vegetative cover.

The Old City of Jaffa For a break from the reveling that is Tel Aviv, Jaffa, an integral part of the Municipality of Tel Aviv-Jaffa, is a study in contrast and fascination – a magical ancient city where you can spend hours exploring the markets and galleries and wandering through the old, narrow alleys, A vibrant blend of religions and cultural beliefs, it also is one of the trendiest spots in Tel Aviv for shopping and eating out.
From archeological discoveries and ancient documents, we learn that Jaffa existed as a port city some 4000 years ago, serving Egyptian and Phoenician sailors in their sea voyages.
The main entrance to today’s Jaffa is marked by the clock tower from 1902, one of four constructed by the Turks in Ottoman Palestine to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the ascension to the Turkish throne, of Sultan Abed El-Hamid II. Four separate clocks grace the top of the tower, and the history of Jaffa has been recorded on the tower’s metal-barred windows and openings.
Ships carrying cedars from Lebanon are depicted, and camels laden with precious goods as they enter and exit Jaffa Port, Jewish ships that were sunk during the rebellion against the ancient Roman empire are also depicted, as is Shimon Maccabi, the Hashmonean-era Jewish leader, who conquered Jaffa more than 2000 years ago.
With the improvements to the clock tower and the world-famous Jaffa Flea Market adjacent to it, the Jaffa that tourists encounter looks nothing like it did a decade ago.
Since for centuries, Jaffa served as a waystation for Jewish pilgrims landing in Jaffa Port on their way to Jerusalem, a number of hotels were located in Jaffa in the 19th century, primarily in what is now the flea market area.
Two luxury properties are scheduled for completing in 2017 – Israel’s first W hotel, developed from a property that served as a Jaffa Port-area hospital in the past, and the Orchid Hotel Chain’s Setai Hotel opposite the clock tower, in the old Turkish prison building.

What Is A Data Logger And How Does It Work?
Data loggers use a microprocessor, an internal memory for data storage, and a sensor to collect data.
Data loggers can either interface with a computer and use software to view and analyze the collected data or be used as a stand-alone device with a local interface or connect wirelessly to a device.
The advantage of data loggers is that they can operate independently of a computer, unlike many other types of data acquisition devices.
Current: Current data loggers include a range of AC and DC data loggers and are often used to monitor building equipment.
Depending on the type of data logger, you can either access the data directly within the data logger and even print it out, connect the data logger to a computer to extract the data, or data can be wirelessly transmitted in real-time to any connected device.
Most data loggers collect data which may be directly transferred to a computer.
Data loggers can collect data independently of a computer.
Data Loggers
A guide to data loggers including explanations, applications and product selection guide for recording measurement data.
Barometric pressure data loggers for recording trends in atmospheric pressure for weather monitoring or for synchronising with other data such as non-vented water level readings.
The data memory is usually combined together with a signal conditioning to make a general purpose data logger which can accept analogue inputs from a range of sensor types.
The main purpose of a digital interface is for downloading instructions to the data logger from the computer and uploading stored data from the datalogger to the computer.
Some data logger manufacturers offer the option to transmit the data via telemetry across a phone line or a mobile phone network, this is essential for remote installations where the data must be collected several times a day.
Therefore the manufacturer’s indicated data point capacity should be treated as guide and a reasonable margin of error should be allowed where loss of data is a critical concern.
One option would be a pressure gauge type logger such as the DM01, where you can see the pressure on the LCD screen and download the logged data via the USB. The other option is a blind device but specifically designed for the water industry called the Triton, this will connect to the water line and data log to a set regime, and you can download the data to a laptop or PC via an infrared adaptor.
Data Loggers For Temperature, Humidity & Pressure
As the name implies, a temperature data logger autonomously measures and records temperature data over a certain time period.
Temperature data loggers can record the environmental temperature or the temperature of the product itself, recording the time along with the temperature reading.
Some loggers provide not just numerical data, but humidity charts as well, and there are also models available that collect both humidity and temperature readings.
A humidity data logger can monitor humidity levels in a hospital cleanroom or lab, and might be used in conjunction with CO2 and temperature monitors.
Pressure data loggers are used to measure gauge, atmospheric, and vacuum pressure, with certain models designed specifically for measuring differential pressure.
Differential pressure data loggers are used in situations where even a small change in pressure could result in a serious issue.
Humidity and temperature data loggers are installed at key points along the production line and in storage rooms to gather data and demonstrate compliance with regulatory and internal quality control standards, and can alert you when fluctuations occur so they can be addressed as soon as possible.

Incandescent Light Bulb
An incandescent light bulb, incandescent lamp or incandescent light globe is an electric light with a wire filament heated until it glows.
The luminous efficacy of a typical incandescent bulb for 120 V operation is 16 lumens per watt, compared with 60 lm/W for a compact fluorescent bulb or 150 lm/W for some white LED lamps.
For a given quantity of light, an incandescent light bulb consumes more power and emits more heat than a fluorescent lamp.
Compared to other incandescent light types, incandescent halogen lamps will emit the same amount of light using less power, and a more constant output over time, with little dimming.
Type Overall luminous efficiency Overall luminous efficacy 40 W tungsten incandescent 1.9% 12.6 60 W tungsten incandescent 2.1% 14.5 100 W tungsten incandescent 2.6% 17.5 Glass halogen 2.3% 16 Quartz halogen 3.5% 24 Photographic and projection lamps with very high filament temperatures and short lifetimes 5.1% 35 Ideal black-body radiator at 4000 K 7.0% 47.5 Ideal black-body radiator at 7000 K 14% 95 Ideal monochromatic 555 nm source 100% 683.
Since incandescent light bulbs use more energy than alternatives such as CFLs and LED lamps, many governments have introduced measures to ban their use, by setting minimum efficacy standards higher than can be achieved by incandescent lamps.
Objections to banning the use of incandescent light bulbs include the higher initial cost of alternatives and lower quality of light of fluorescent lamps.
Incandescent Light Bulbs
Incandescent bulbs are the most common type of light bulbs.
Although they’re being slowly replaced by more energy efficient bulbs such as compact fluorescent light bulbs and LED bulbs, many household and commercial light fixtures still use them.
For your convenience, we keep a large selection of low-priced incandescent bulbs in stock.
In every room and during every season, you’re likely to see incandescent bulbs.
We have standard type A or A-shape light bulbs, globe bulbs, PAR incandescent bulbs for spotlights and floodlights, reflector incandescent bulbs and candelabra lamps.
We also carry festoon, rigid loop and wedge bulbs; incandescent bulbs for photography and antique style incandescent bulbs that are ideal for vintage light fixtures for a warm, authentic appearance.
There are also heat bulbs and candelabra bulbs for wall sconces and candelabras.
What’S An Incandescent Light Bulb?
An incandescent light bulb or light source is any device that uses electricity to heat a filament-or wire-until it is hot enough to glow white.
LED light bulbs are quickly becoming the standard, replacing incandescent bulbs in many homes and other settings.
The incandescent bulb has come a long way since then.
To extend the life of standard incandescent bulbs, manufacturers build them to become less hot than the optimum temperature for emitting clear, white light.
Most standard incandescent light bulbs can’t meet those standards, but ones that did could still be manufactured and sold.
Still, many incandescent light bulbs were exempted from the standards.
The replacements for a standard 60W bulb, which was one of the earliest types of bulb affected, have come a long way toward meeting those standards.
Light Bulb Types
The incandescent light bulb or lamp is a source of electric light that works by incandescence, which is the emission of light caused by heating the filament.
While Thomas Edison is widely considered to be the inventor of the incandescent bulb, there are a number of people who invented components and prototypes of the light bulb well before Edison did.
One of those people was British physicist Joseph Wilson Swan, who actually received the first patent for a complete incandescent light bulb with a carbon filament in 1879.
Swan’s house was the first in the world to be lit by a light bulb.
An incandescent bulb typically consists of a glass enclosure containing a tungsten filament.
An electric current passes through the filament, heating it to a temperature that produces light.
Incandescent light bulbs usually contain a stem or glass mount attached to the bulb’s base which allows the electrical contacts to run through the envelope without gas/air leaks.
The Incandescent Lightbulb
Edison started working on the incandescent light bulb right after he finished the phonograph.
Edison created his version of the incandescent light bulb in 1879.

The company traces its origins to Thomas Edison’s work on lighting in the 19th century.
In 1911, General Electric was found to have acquired three quarters of the National Electric Light Association, an association of lighting product companies through which GE had licensed its patented products; this trading arrangement was the subject of an antitrust investigation, and as a result the association was dissolved.
GE subsequently acquired several of the association’s member companies.
In July 2011, GE Lighting entered a licensing agreement with Nuventix for its LED cooling technology and invested $10 million into the company.
Two weeks later, the company announced its plans to buy Lightech, acquiring its LED and halogen power supplies, for a deal reportedly worth between $15 million and $20 million.
On October 7, 2015, the Commercial division of GE Lighting was separated from the business and a new startup, Current, was created.
On July 1, 2020, GE Lighting was acquired by Savant Systems, a home automation company.

A humidifier adds water vapor into the air and increases the humidity levels of your home and make it more comfortable.
At Target, find a variety of humidifiers, from cool mist to ultrasonic, so you can pick the right one for your home and specific needs.
If you’re looking to just increase the humidity in the room, ultrasonic humidifiers or cool mist humidifiers add moisture to the air and help reduce dryness.
Place a cool mist or ultrasonic humidifier in your nursery or on your desk for better results.
Humidifiers can do more than just humidifying the air.
For air quality control, pick the evaporative humidifier that distributes a mist or spray and is perfect for both kids and adults.
Warm mist humidifiers provide relief from sickness and can be used with medicated inhalants.

Humidifiers: Ease Skin, Breathing Symptoms
Dry sinuses, bloody noses and cracked lips – humidifiers can help soothe these familiar problems caused by dry indoor air.
Cool-mist humidifiers also may help ease symptoms of a cold or other respiratory condition.
Be cautious: Although useful, humidifiers can make you sick if they aren’t maintained properly or if humidity levels stay too high.
Humidifiers are devices that release water vapor or steam to increase moisture levels in the air.
Mist from a dirty humidifier or increased growth of allergens caused by high humidity can trigger or worsen asthma and allergy symptoms.
Dirty humidifiers can especially cause problems for people with asthma and allergies.
Even in healthy people, dirty humidifiers have the potential to trigger flu-like symptoms or even lung infections when the contaminated mist or steam is released into the air.
Humidifier
One version of a natural humidifier uses a stainless steel bowl, partially filled with water, covered by a towel.
The stainless steel bowl is much easier to clean than typical humidifier water tanks.
An ultrasonic humidifier uses a ceramic diaphragm vibrating at an ultrasonic frequency to create water droplets that silently exit the humidifier in the form of cool fog.
Bypass humidifiers are connected between the heated and cold air return ducts, using the pressure difference between these ducts to cause some heated air to make a bypass through the humidifier and return to the furnace.
Any humidifiers should usually be disabled during the summer months if air conditioning is used; air conditioners partially function to reducing indoor humidity, and having a humidifier continue to operate will waste significant amounts of energy.
A disc wheel style is very similar in design to the drum style humidifiers; this type of furnace humidifier replaces the foam drumming with a number of plastic discs with small grooves on both sides.
Spray mist type uses a pipe, usually a small plastic one, to bring water directly to an electrically controlled valve in the humidifier.

The procedure uses a new type of device called an intervertebral fusion cage to perform a spinal fusion between two or more vertebrae in the lumbar spine.
Many of the newer types of intervertebral fusion cages are also designed to allow performing the spinal fusion either using an open incision or a laparoscopic procedure.
Second, the intervertebral fusion cage sits between the two vertebrae to replace the disc and hold the two vertebrae in the correct position until a fusion occurs between the vertebrae.
The intervertebral fusion cage is not designed to treat all spinal problems requiring surgery.
If your major problem appears to be degenerative disc disease combined with segmental instability of the spine, you may be a candidate at some point in your treatment for surgery with the intervertebral fusion cage.
You will be required to wear the brace for approximately two to three months following surgery, or until proper fixation of your new intervertebral fusion cages occurs.
The intervertebral fusion cage is another tool for the spine surgeon to use in helping treat the various problems occurring in the low back.

Interbody Cages For Spine Fusion
In September of 1996, the FDA approved anterior interbody cages for use in the disc space, providing a new technique that allows the spine to be fused with less morbidity than in the past.
Anterior interbody cages are titanium cylinders that are placed in the disc space.
The cages are porous and allow the bone graft to grow from the vertebral body through the cage and into the next vertebral body.
Most of the cages are placed in the front of the spine.
While most cages are placed through an ALIF, they can also be placed in the back of the spine through a midline incision in the back.
After an initial surge in popularity, it was recognized that the threaded cages did not fixate the spine well enough in certain situations.
Because anterior interbody fusions fail as a result of the endplate not being able to support the stress of the cage, decreasing the force per unit area should lead to less endplate failures and cage subsidence.

What Is A PEEK Spinal Cage?
A bone-like modulus – PEEK is unique among biomaterials in that it possesses a cortical bone-like modulus.
PEEK spinal cages do not, so they help preserve the integrity of neighboring bone.
Subsidence, which refers to an implant’s tendency to settle into the bone, is a concern for implanted biomaterials, but it’s less of a concern with PEEK. According to a study published in the European Spine Journal, PEEK implants experience subsidence rates of ten percent or less, while Titanium produces subsidence rates of 20 percent or more.
In its natural state, PEEK is a radiolucent or invisible material on MRI, CT and X-ray scans.
Barium sulfate, for example, can be added to PEEK to increase the level of radiopacity, allowing advantageous shadowing or contrast on the image.
PEEK has passed the most rigorous biocompatibility testing available.
Implantable PEEK cages have been in use for two decades, and the existing literature on patient outcomes is positive.
Interbody Fusion Cage
An interbody fusion cage is a prosthesis used in spinal fusion procedures to maintain foraminal height and decompression.
There are several varieties: the Harms cage, Ray cage, Pyramesh cage, InterFix cage, and lordotic LT cage, all of which are made from titanium; the Brantigan cage, made from carbon fibre; and the Cortical Bone Dowel, which is cut from allograft femur.
The cages can be packed with autologous bone material in order to promote arthrodesis.
Unthreaded implants, such as the Harms and Pyramesh cages have teeth along both surfaces that bite into the end plates.
Technology: expansion vs. static devices Expandable implant devices are at the forefront of technology in this field, with cages that expand in place for optimal end-plate-to-endplate fit and correction of lordosis.
There are several technologies for cage expansion; FLXfit by Expanding Orthopedics offers a unique and patented 3D articulation and lordotic expansion, Staxx by Spinewave stacks plates as risers, Varilift by Wenzel – uses a screw device for enlargement and AccuLIF by CoAlign, which has a unique locking hydraulic solution for precise expansion.
Once placed, the cages resist flexion and extension of the spine, and axial forces across the ventral and middle columns.

RAR-Related Orphan Receptor C
The checksum is a form of redundancy check that is calculated from the sequence.
It should be noted that while, in theory, two different sequences could have the same checksum value, the likelihood that this would happen is extremely low.
However, UniProtKB may contain entries with identical sequences in case of multiple genes.
The checksum is computed as the sequence 64-bit Cyclic Redundancy Check value using the generator polynomial: x64 + x4 + x3 + x + 1.
The algorithm is described in the ISO 3309 standard.
RAR-Related Orphan Receptor
Since Th17 cells are recognized as a main source of IL-17, factors that stimulate the differentiation of Th17 cells from naive T cells are generally associated with an increased production of IL-17 mRNA and protein.
Therapeutic Role of Curcumin in Inflammatory Brain DiseasesIt has been reported recently that the production of IL-17 and circulatory development of T helper17 cells perform key roles in the progression of MS. A number of studies have described the therapeutic effects of curcumin against various neurological diseases, including experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis, a model for MS.99-114 In EAE Lewis rats curcumin decreased myelin basic protein-reactive lymphocytes, penetration of inflammatory cells in the CNS, Retinoid-related orphan receptor γ, TGF-β, IL-6 IL-17, IL-21, and signal transducers and activators of transcription-3 expression.
Based on recent literature this intestinal Treg cell pool can be further subdivided into at least three subpopulations based on the expression of the transcription factors RAR-related orphan receptor.
These altered cytokines can lead to accumulation and infiltration of immature myeloid cells, termed myeloid-derived suppressor cells, into the TME as well as into premetastatic niches [214-217]. MDSCs, a heterogeneous population of immature myeloid cells, consist of two distinct subsets based on the expression of cell surface markers: monocytic, granulocytic or polymorphonuclear.
The interaction between CCL2 and its receptors, chemokine receptor, was identified as a pathway that facilitates the infiltration of these myeloid populations [223,224] and administration of an anti-CCL2 antibody blocked recruitment of both MDSCs and TAMs in syngeneic mouse models of GBM. Similarly, the chemokine interleukin-8, which is released by cancer cells, acts as a chemoattractant and accelerates the translocation of immune suppressive cells from the periphery to the TME. This occurs in a G protein-coupled receptor, C-X-C motif chemokine receptor 1 and 2, dependent manner [225,226].
4.1 The differentiation and regulation of Th17 cellsAntigen-presenting cells induce the differentiation of antigen-specific naïve Th cells into effector T cells, which are further differentiated into lineages by cytokine activity.
TGF-β stimulation of Th17 cells past their maturity may actually hinder their inflammatory propensity, causing these cells to release the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10, despite the upregulation of IL-17A.IL-23 is produced by many cells, including dendritic cells and macrophages, and is of key importance to the pathophysiological effects of Th cells in inflammatory disorders.
RAR-Related Orphan Receptor
There are three forms of ROR, ROR-α, -β, and and each is encoded by a separate gene RORA, RORB, and RORC respectively.
The RORs are somewhat unusual in that they appear to bind as monomers to hormone response elements as opposed to the majority of other nuclear receptors which bind as dimers.
While the identity of natural ligands for the RORs remains controversial, similar to the liver X receptors, it appears that the RORs are activated by oxysterols.
The RORs appear to be constitutively active and that activity may be due to continuously bound natural ligands.
Side chain oxygenated sterols are high affinity RORγ agonists while sterols oxygenated at the 7-position, function as inverse agonists for both RORa and RORγ.
A number of other natural substances have also been reported to bind to the RORs.
Finally the RORs may function as lipid sensors and hence may play a role in the regulation of lipid metabolism.

Dissolved Air Flotation
For effective flotation the quantity of air required is about 6-10 g/m3 or 4-6 l/m3 of water treated and requires a recycle flow rate of about 6-15% depending on temperature and dissolved oxygen concentration of the incoming water.
Air is dissolved in recycle water under pressure either in pressure vessels equipped with an eductor on the inlet side for adding air or in a packed column; the operating pressures of the two respective saturator systems are 6-7 bar and 3.5-6 bar.
Saturator efficiency for packed column type is about 90-95% whilst that for unpacked type is about 65-75%. Saturator efficiency is 100 times the amount of air measured in the recycle water divided by the amount of air that could be dissolved theoretically.
Air saturated water is returned to the flotation tank through a series of nozzles or needle valves to give a sudden reduction in pressure and release of air bubbles in a white water curtain.
The production of fine air bubbles in the dissolved-air flotation process is based on the higher solubility of air in water as pressure increases.
The “Solubility” of air at the bottom of the flotation tank will be about 25 ppm, and the excess air from the pressurized, recycled effluent will precipitate from “Solution.” As this air precipitates in the form of tiny, almost microscopic, bubbles, the bubbles attach to the coagulated solids.
A first-principles design would involve predicting how much air per kg of water could be dissolved in water at a given temperature and pressure using Henry’s law, then working out the required recycle water flowrate based upon an amount of air per incoming solids load. It is this second factor which cannot be determined from first principles.
Dissolved Air Flotation Systems
Dissolved air flotation is a proven and effective physical/chemical technology for treating a variety of industrial and municipal process and wastewater streams.
Pretreatment to reduce loading on downstream biological treatment systems.
One of the most common DAF applications is for the pretreatment of wastewater to remove suspended solids and oils and greases prior to discharge to a municipal sewer or a biological treatment system.
A Pretreatment DAF can be used by an industrial discharger to meet specific limits for oil and grease and/or suspended solids set by a municipality.
An industry may need to use a Pretreatment DAF to remove contaminants that would negatively impact a biological wastewater treatment system downstream.
Pretreatment DAF is used in about every industry class.
DAF has proven to be very effective for the removal of biological solids from wastewa+K625ter streams.

Discharge pressure from the recycle pump and the Saturation Tank shall be channeled through a tangential pipe and into the influent pipe causing vortex to take effect to maximize the contact of the air bubbles with the incoming suspended solids prior to entering the contact chamber.
A secondary bubble separation chamber shall be positioned immediately after the influent pipe and prior to the contact chamber for further separation of large bubble, to ensure maximum consistency of small air bubble size and to eliminate any possible turbulence within the contact chamber.
DISSOLVED AIR FLOTATION
Dissolved air flotation clarifies wastewater by removal of remaining fat, oil and grease from effluent which has already passed several primary treatment phases.
HOW DOES DISSOLVED AIR FLOTATION WORK. Wastewater is pumped into a flotation tank or basin and hit with dissolved air causing microscopic bubbles adhere to suspended solids causing them lift to the surface of the water where it may then be removed by a skimming device and drained toward a sludge discharge tank.
Not-floating solids sink to the bottom of the DAF tank from where they are discharged by an automatically controlled pneumatic drain valve.
EQUIPMENT NEEDED FOR DISSOLVED AIR FLOTATION. The goal of dissolved air flotation is to create a system which successfully treats a wide range of suspended solids at a high rate of solids removal.
Technology of dissolved air flotation includes a range of components like flotation tank, skimmer, feed distribution well, and back pressure pump, valve, and saturation system.
For dissolved air flotation, FlotLife supplies full set of technological equipment along with system installation, training and support services.
Highly effective, non-blocking dissolved air system.
Dissolved Air Flotation
Typical DAF systems include coarse filtration, physical-chemical treatment, and sludge dewatering prior to discharge or reuse.
Coarse filtration removes lint, scale, sand, and other large objects from the waste stream via hydrocyclone or shaker screen.
The hydrocyclone system is a centrifugal separating device, designed for separating high-density solids, such as sand and gravel, from the waste stream.
Automatic addition of acid or caustic is preferred in pH control and consists of a treatment tank with a mixer, an in-tank pH sensor, in-tank level control, metering pumps for acid and caustic injection, an automated drain valve or pump for the effluent, and a control panel.
After the waste stream has moved through coarse filtration, pH control, and the DAF, the sludge produced from the DAF is skimmed and moved to sludge dewatering.
This filter press provides dewatering of liquid waste residuals for ultimate disposal of dry, solid waste.
The filter press greatly reduces waste treatment and disposal hauling costs.
Dissolved Air Flotation
Dissolved air flotation is a water treatment process that clarifies wastewaters by the removal of suspended matter such as oil or solids.
The removal is achieved by dissolving air in the water or wastewater under pressure and then releasing the air at atmospheric pressure in a flotation tank basin.
Dissolved air flotation is very widely used in treating the industrial wastewater effluents from oil refineries, petrochemical and chemical plants, natural gas processing plants, paper mills, general water treatment and similar industrial facilities.
In the oil industry, dissolved gas flotation units do not use air as the flotation medium due to the explosion risk.
A portion of the clarified effluent water leaving the DAF tank is pumped into a small pressure vessel into which compressed air is also introduced.
The air-saturated water stream is recycled to the front of the float tank and flows through a pressure reduction valve just as it enters the front of the float tank, which results in the air being released in the form of tiny bubbles.
Drinking water supplies that are particularly vulnerable to unicellular algal blooms, and supplies with low turbidity and high colour often employ DAF. After coagulation and flocculation processes, water flows to DAF tanks where air diffusers on the tank bottom create fine bubbles that attach to floc resulting in a floating mass of concentrated floc.
Dissolved Air Flotation Systems
The flotation process is based on coagulation and flocculation mechanisms.
By adding specific chemicals, such as iron chloride and aluminum chloride, colloidal particles are destabilized and floc formation takes place.
Flocculation with other chemicals, such as polyelectrolyte, facilitates the collision between the destabilized suspended and colloidal particles to form larger clots that can be readily removed.
The process separates solid particles from the liquid.
At first water is saturated with dissolved air under pressure.
This recycle stream, called the hypersaturated stream, is then mixed with the incoming wastewater in an internal contact chamber, where the microscopic air bubbles attach to solids and float them to the surface, forming a floating sludge bed.
A scraping assembly skims the sludge from the surface of the water and into a sump, from where it’s pumped to sludge treatment.

Fault Indicators
Fault circuit indicator is used to detect short circuit failures or phase-to-earth faults in electric power distribution networks.
By reporting each incident via visual or remote signal, the fault indicators reduce substantially the time and costs needed to find out the source of a fault.
In case of a fault, the short circuit loop will go from the fault source to the supplying substation.
Each fault indicator located on that path will detect and indicate the fault.
The devices will have a visual indication and can send the information via SMS/GPRS. It becomes then easy to find the fault source by just following the path indicated by the fault indicators.
Main features of the fault indicators high indication visibility, thanks to high-brightness LED;.
Failure fault information transmitted straight to the control station, using the GSM-connection or GPRS;. auto setting feature: the fault indicator detects the normal electromagnetic field and set itself compare to it.
Fault Indicator
A fault indicator is a device which provides visual or remote indication of a fault on the electric power system.
During an electrical fault on a grounded system, additional current flows through a conductor, inducing a magnetic field, which is detected up by the fault indicator causing a state change on the mechanical target flag, LED, or remote indication device.
Ground fault indicators for isolated ground systems sense the vector sum of the current and look for an imbalance indicating a fault on one or more of the three phases.
Systems with earthing through high resistance have low phase-to-ground fault currents so require high sensitivity of FI. When there are high load currents and low earth fault levels the line mounted fault indicators should look at the differential increase of the current instead of the absolute value.
Advanced fault indicators should monitor the live line to distinguish fault currents from usual current surges.
Some overhead line fault indicators called as pole mounted fault indicators can detect the live line and the fault current from 3 to 5 meters below the conductors.
Recent developments include a remotely programmable overhead line indicator, fault indication for paper-insulated lead cable, and an overhead fault indicator for mesh networks.

The refrigerants used in air conditioning are potent greenhouse gases that may contribute to global climate change.
Astronautics Corporation of America is developing an air conditioning system that relies on magnetic fields.
Typical air conditioners use vapor compression to cool air.
Vapor compression uses a liquid refrigerant to circulate within the air conditioner, absorb the heat, and pump the heat out into the external environment.
Magnetic refrigeration uses no ozone-depleting gases and is safer to use than conventional air conditioners, which are prone to leaks.
If successful, Astronautics’ magnetic refrigeration could improve the efficiency of air conditioners without using refrigerants.
Widespread adoption of this technology could reduce energy consumption for building air conditioning-providing consumers with cost savings on energy bills.

What Is Thermal Insulation
Thermal insulation is the process of reduction of heat transfer between objects in thermal contact or in range of radiative influence.
Thermal insulations consist of low thermal conductivity materials combined to achieve an even lower system thermal conductivity.
Their contribution to the thermal conductivity is very high and is referred to as the electronic thermal conductivity, ke.
As a result, metals are very good thermal conductors instead of thermal insulators.
Lattice thermal conduction is the dominant thermal conduction mechanism in nonmetals, if not the only one.
It must be added, thermal insulation is primarily based on the very low thermal conductivity of gases.
Gases possess poor thermal conduction properties compared to liquids and solids, and thus makes a good insulation material if they can be trapped.
Thermal Insulation Materials: Types And Properties
The basic requirement in thermal insulation materials is to prevent heat transfer.
The lower the thermal conductivity calculation value, λh, the better the thermal insulation performance of the material.
4.XPS. XPS produced from polystyrene raw material by extrusion method; It is a thermal insulation material with low thermal conductivity, closed pores, breathable, does not change shape over time, has high compressive strength and does not rot.
XPS has similar properties with EPS thermal insulation material, but EPS absorbs 2-4% moisture while XPS absorbs 0.3% moisture.
Melamine foam, which provides good sound insulation and thermal insulation, is an insulation material preferred to be used in buildings with its decorative properties.
The good air preservation of flax fibers shows its thermal insulation feature, and the elasticity of the fibers shows its sound insulation feature.
Its thermal conductivity calculation value is λh = 0.004 W / mK and it is up to 10 times more efficient than traditional thermal insulation materials.
Department Of Energy
To evaluate sprayed or blown-in types of insulation, measure the depth of the insulation and check for gaps in coverage.
Blanket insulation – the most common and widely available type of insulation – comes in the form of batts or rolls.
The manufacturers’ coverage charts specify the bags of insulation needed per square foot of coverage area; the maximum coverage area for one bag of insulation; the minimum weight per square foot of the installed insulation; and the initial and settled thickness of the installed insulation needed to achieve a particular R-value.
Reflective insulation incorporates reflective surfaces – typically aluminum foils – into insulation systems that can include a variety of backings, such as kraft paper, plastic film, polyethylene bubbles, or cardboard, as well as thermal insulation materials.
Consult a professional insulation installer to decide what type of insulation is best for you.
Foam insulation products and installation usually cost more than traditional batt insulation.
They provide superior and uniform insulation compared to more traditional construction methods, offering energy savings of 12% to 14%. When installed properly, SIPs also result in a more airtight dwelling, which makes a house energy efficient, quieter, and more comfortable.
Thermal Insulation
Thermal insulation is the reduction of heat transfer between objects in thermal contact or in range of radiative influence.
Thermal insulation can be achieved with specially engineered methods or processes, as well as with suitable object shapes and materials.
Thermal insulation provides a region of insulation in which thermal conduction is reduced, creating a thermal break or thermal barrier, or thermal radiation is reflected rather than absorbed by the lower-temperature body.
The act of insulation is accomplished by encasing an object in material with low thermal conductivity in high thickness.
Multi-layer insulation is used where radiative loss dominates, or when the user is restricted in volume and weight of the insulation.
Gases possess poor thermal conduction properties compared to liquids and solids and thus make good insulation material if they can be trapped.
As a result, thermal insulation is necessary to prevent the heat from the exhaust from reaching these components.

There are 7 main areas covered in the upper limb; The muscles, bones, joints, nerves, blood and lymphatic supply, anatomical areas, and the structures in the hand.
There are a large number of muscles in the upper limb, these are involved in allowing us to move and perform important tasks such as gripping with our hands or raising our arms, they also provide extra stability around the shoulder joint.
There are 4 main groups of bones in the upper limb, the bones of the shoulder girdle, upper arm, forearm, and the bones of the hand.
The joints of the upper limb are found between some of these bones and the muscles crossing them allow us to orient these joints.
The nerves of the upper limb arise from a complex arrangement of nerve fibers known as the brachial plexus; These nerves give sensation to our upper limb, as well as innervating the muscles, allowing us to move them at will.
The anatomical areas found on the upper limb can serve as key landmarks to help us find important anatomical structures such as finding one of the superficial veins: The median cubital vein in the antecubital fossa of the arm.
The hand is a very mobile part of the upper limb, and we perform very specialised tasks with it every day, key adaptations can be seen in the specialised structures of the hand.
Upper Limb Anatomy: Bones, Muscles And Nerves
This topic page will briefly discuss the upper extremity anatomy in order to introduce you to the main regions of the upper limb, which includes: the shoulder, arm, elbow, forearm and hand.
Superficial muscles include the deltoid and the trapezius, whereas the deep group contains the supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor and subscapularis muscles.
Take the upper extremity anatomy quiz and learn more about the bones, joints, muscles and vessels of the upper extremity!
Muscles of the arm always crop up in exams! Get your knowledge up to scratch now using our quizzes, diagrams and worksheets.
The elbow is another “Bridge” within the upper limb that attaches the arm and the forearm.
The muscles of the forearm are grouped into anterior and posterior compartments, with the anterior compartment containing mostly flexors, and the posterior, extensors.
The intrinsic muscles of the hand are the: palmaris brevis, interossei, adductor pollicis, thenar, hypothenar and lumbrical muscles.
Human Anatomy And Physiology Lab
The forearm consists of two bones, the ulna and radius.
The hand consists of 27 bones, which are grouped into the phalanges, metacarpals, and carpals.
The bones of the hands are divided into three groups.
The metacarpals are five individual bones that are wrapped in muscle and collective tissue to create a single solid mass that serves as the palm of the hand.
So the metacarpal under the little finger in Figure 7-12 is name left metacarpal V. There are 14 bones that make up the fingers.
So the second phalanx on the pointing finger in Figure 7-12 is the left medial phalanx II. Lab 7 Exercises 7-3 Using one of the full skeletons in the room, fill out the tables below with three or four steps to determine whether each individual upper limb bone comes from the anatomical left or anatomical right.
You can describe any features on that bone and which direction it has to face to allow you to determine whether that particular bone came from anatomical left or anatomical right.
8.2 Bones Of The Upper Limb – Anatomy & Physiology
Describe the bones of the upper limb, including the bones of the arm, forearm, wrist, and hand.
Appropriately name the regions of the upper limb and list the bones in each region.
List the bones and bony landmarks that articulate at each joint of the upper limb.
The carpal bones are arranged in two rows, forming a proximal row of four carpal bones and a distal row of four carpal bones.
A helpful mnemonic for remembering the arrangement of the carpal bones is “So Long To Pinky, Here Comes The Thumb.” This mnemonic starts on the lateral side and names the proximal bones from lateral to medial, then makes a U-turn to name the distal bones from medial to lateral.
The distal carpal bones also articulate with the metacarpal bones of the hand.
These bones lie between the carpal bones of the wrist and the bones of the fingers and thumb.

Upper Limb
The upper limbs or upper extremities are the forelimbs of an upright-postured tetrapod vertebrate, extending from the scapulae and clavicles down to and including the digits, including all the musculatures and ligaments involved with the shoulder, elbow, wrist and knuckle joints.
In the human body the muscles of the upper limb can be classified by origin, topography, function, or innervation.
The arm proper, sometimes called the upper arm, the region between the shoulder and the elbow, is composed of the humerus with the elbow joint at its distal end.
The small movements of the eight carpal bones during composite movements at the wrist are complex to describe, but flexion mainly occurs in the midcarpal joint whilst extension mainly occurs in the radiocarpal joint; the latter joint also providing most of adduction and abduction at the wrist.
Of the joints between the carpus and metacarpus, the carpometacarpal joints, only the saddle-shaped joint of the thumb offers a high degree of mobility while the opposite is true for the metacarpophalangeal joints.
The motor and sensory supply of the upper limb is provided by the brachial plexus which is formed by the ventral rami of spinal nerves C5-T1. In the posterior triangle of the neck these rami form three trunks from which fibers enter the axilla region to innervate the muscles of the anterior and posterior compartments of the limb.
The muscles of the upper limb are innervated segmentally proximal to distal so that the proximal muscles are innervated by higher segments and the distal muscles are innervated by lower segments.
Definition Of Upper Limb By Medical Dictionary
Artificial limb a replacement for a missing limb; see also prosthesis.
The ascending portion of an arterial pulse tracing; called also anacrotic limb.
The descending portion of an arterial pulse tracing; called also catacrotic limb.
Lower limb the limb of the body extending from the gluteal region to the foot; it is specialized for weight-bearing and locomotion.
Phantom limb the sensation, after amputation of a limb, that the absent part is still present; there may also be paresthesias, transient aches, and intermittent or continuous pain perceived as originating in the absent limb.
Upper limb the limb of the body extending from the deltoid region to the hand; it is specialized for functions requiring great mobility, such as grasping and manipulating.

Mitral Valve Repair And Mitral Valve Replacement
Mitral valve repair and mitral valve replacement are types of surgery to fix or replace a leaky or stiff mitral valve in the heart.
Mitral valve repair and mitral valve replacement may be done as an open-heart surgery procedure or as minimally invasive heart surgery.
Sometimes mitral valve repair or mitral valve replacement is done even if you’re not having symptoms.
For people with mitral valve disease, Mayo doctors may often recommend repairing the mitral valve when possible, as it preserves the mitral valve and may preserve heart function.
Mitral valve repair may be done to avoid complications that can occur with mitral valve replacement, such as blood clots due to mechanical valves and biological tissue valve failure.
Mitral valve repair and mitral valve replacement are done by a heart surgeon.
During mitral valve replacement, your heart surgeon removes the mitral valve and replaces it with a mechanical valve or a valve made from cow, pig or human heart tissue.
Mitral Valve Replacement: Open
An open mitral valve replacement is a surgery to replace a poorly working mitral valve with an artificial valve.
Frequently Asked Questions About the Mitral Valve Why might I need an open mitral valve replacement?
Mitral valve stenosis and mitral valve regurgitation are two different types of problems that might need valve replacement.
In mitral valve stenosis, the valve is unable to open fully, and less blood is able to move from the left atria into the left ventricle.
Most people who have an open mitral valve replacement have a successful outcome, but there are certain risks.
Your surgeon will replace your valve with a biological valve or a mechanical valve.
What happens after an open mitral valve replacement? After your open mitral valve replacement: You will begin your recovery in the intensive care unit or a recovery room.
Minimally Invasive: MedlinePlus Medical Encyclopedia
There are several different ways to perform minimally invasive mitral valve surgery.
Ring annuloplasty – The surgeon tightens the valve by sewing a ring of metal, cloth, or tissue around the valve.
Valve repair – The surgeon trims, shapes, or rebuilds one or both of the flaps that open and close the valve.
You will need a new valve if there is too much damage to your mitral valve.
Minimally invasive heart valve surgery has improved greatly in recent years.
Mitral valve repair – right mini-thoracotomy; Mitral valve repair – partial upper or lower sternotomy; Robotically-assisted endoscopic valve repair; Percutaneous mitral valvuloplasty.
Bajwa G, Mihaljevic T. Minimally invasive mitral valve surgery: partial sternotomy approach.
Mitral Valve Replacement: Minimally Invasive
What is a minimally invasive mitral valve replacement? A minimally invasive mitral valve replacement is a procedure to replace a poorly working mitral valve with an artificial valve without the need for open heart surgery.
Why might I need a minimally invasive mitral valve replacement? If the mitral valve is working poorly, you may need it repaired or replaced.
Mitral valve stenosis and mitral valve regurgitation are 2 different types of problems that might need valve replacement.
What are the risks of a minimally invasive mitral valve replacement? Most minimally invasive mitral valve replacements are a success.
How do I get ready for a minimally invasive mitral valve replacement? As you plan for the surgery, you and your healthcare provider will decide what kind of valve will work best for you.
What happens during a minimally invasive mitral valve replacement? Check with your healthcare provider about the details of your procedure.
Recovery time after minimally invasive valve surgery tends to be less than for an open mitral valve replacement.
Mitral Valve Repair
Mitral valve repair is commonly used to treat mitral valve pathology due to mitral regurgitation.
Mitral valve repair surgery has some advantages over mitral valve replacement, although patient-specific factors must be taken into consideration.
Patients with degenerative MV pathology who develop symptoms of MR have a poor prognosis, with annual mortality rates of up to 34%. Mitral stenosis, primarily caused by rheumatic heart disease, is commonly treated by percutaneous balloon mitral valvuloplasty or MVR. Repair is usually not feasible in these patients with rheumatic mitral disease.
Severe LV dysfunction is also a relatively contraindication as repair of the mitral valve leads to a competent valve, thereby increasing afterload on the LV. Thus, the pre-operative LV function and ejection fraction usually overestimates the true left ventricular function in cases of severe MR since the regurgitant valve acts as a “Pop-off” valve.
Regardless of incisional approach taken, the core principles of mitral valve repair remain the same: the goal is to create a competent mitral valve with good coaptation depth, ring annuloplasty, and avoidance of systolic anterior motion.
21.Lawrie GM. Structure, function, and dynamics of the mitral annulus: importance in mitral valve repair for myxamatous mitral valve disease.
25.Flameng W, Herijgers P, Bogaerts K. Recurrence of mitral valve regurgitation after mitral valve repair in degenerative valve disease.
Mitral Valve Replacement Surgery
That said, it is incredibly important to monitor mitral valve disease and, if needed, surgically treat it with a mitral valve repair or a mitral valve replacement operation.
As I’ve learned over the years, mitral valve repair is often referred to as the “Gold standard” for treating heart valve disease including mitral regurgitation and mitral valve prolapse.
In other cases, severe calcification on the mitral leaflets and annulus requires a mitral valve replacement.
A mitral valve replacement operation usually takes between three to five hours in which the patient is under general anesthesia and on the heart-lung machine.
During the procedure, the surgeon will remove the diseased mitral valve and replace it with a mechanical heart valve replacement or a bioprosthetic heart valve replacement.
To perform the mitral valve replacement, the surgeon must access and open the heart.
If you didn’t know… New transcatheter mitral valve replacement devices are now in feasibility studies and clinical trials.
Transcatheter Mitral Valve Replacement: Latest Advances And Future Directions
Mitral regurgitation remains the most common form of valve disease worldwide and given an aging population with a significant proportion of secondary mitral regurgitation, a transcatheter approach to mitral valve replacement has become a major goal of the transcatheter therapeutics field.
Mitral regurgitation can be caused by disease of the leaflets or by diseases of the left atrium or left ventricle, and may involve overlap of the two.
The location of the mitral valve, the approach to anchoring a valve replacement, and concerns about left ventricular outflow tract obstruction are all issues that have made the transcatheter delivery of a valve replacement challenging.
Despite these challenges, both transapical and transseptal devices are currently being developed, with several in early feasibility trials and several entering pivotal trials.
As the field of transcatheter mitral valve replacement improves and develops, a critical part of evaluating patients with mitral valve disease will be utilizing the heart team approach to identify and individualize the most appropriate treatment for each patient.
Keywords: Transcatheter valve therapies; mitral valve replacement; mitral valve surgery; transcatheter mitral valve replacement.

Triflic Acid
Triflic acid, the short name for trifluoromethanesulfonic acid, TFMS, TFSA, HOTf or TfOH, is a sulfonic acid with the chemical formula CF3SO3H. It is one of the strongest known acids.
In the laboratory, triflic acid is useful in protonations because the conjugate base of triflic acid is nonnucleophilic.
Further recommending its use, triflic acid does not sulfonate substrates, which can be a problem with sulfuric acid, fluorosulfuric acid, and chlorosulfonic acid.
Triflic acid reacts with acyl halides to give mixed triflate anhydrides, which are strong acylating agents, e.g. in Friedel-Crafts reactions.
CH3C(O)Cl + CF3SO3H CH3C(O)OSO2CF3 + HCl CH3C(O)OSO2CF3 + C6H6 CH3C(O)C6H5 + CF3SO3H. Triflic acid catalyzes the reaction of aromatic compounds with sulfonyl chlorides, probably also through the intermediacy of a mixed anhydride of the sulfonic acid.
Dehydration gives the acid anhydride, trifluoromethanesulfonic anhydride,2O. Triflic acid is one of the strongest acids.
Like sulfuric acid, triflic acid must be slowly added to polar solvents to prevent thermal runaway.
Trifluoromethanesulfonic Acid
Description Trifluoromethanesulfonic acid, also known as triflic acid, TFMS, TFSA, HOTf or TfOH, is a sulfonic acid with the chemical formula CF3SO3H. It is often regarded as one of the strongest acids, and is one of a number of so-called “Superacids”.
Chemical Properties Trifluoromethanesulfonic acid is a hygroscopic, colorless liquid at room temperature.
Trifluoromethanesulfonic acid is widely used especially as a catalyst and a precursor in organic chemistry.
Further recommending its use, triflic acid does not sulfonate substrates, which can be a problem with sulfuric acid, fluorosulfuric acid, and chlorosulfonic acid.

8 Strongest Acids Ever Known To Us [As Of 2022]
Now, before we get on with the list of the strongest acids on Earth, there are specific terms and definitions you first need to get familiar with.
While other strong acids like nitric and perchloric acids are susceptible to oxidation, triflic acid is not.
Perchloric acid is among the strongest known Brønsted-Lowry acids, which have powerful oxidizing properties and is highly corrosive.
Carborane acids are one of the strongest groups of superacids known to humans, few of which are considered to have a Hammett acidity function value as low as -18, that’s more than a million times stronger acidity level than pure sulfuric acid.
Now, most of you might have stumbled upon carborane acids when searching for “The strongest acids in the world.”
Well, technically, they are correct since carborane acids are the strongest known single-component acids on Earth, far more acidic than the likes of perchloric and triflic acid.
Acetic acid, hydrocyanic acid, hydrogen sulfide, formic acid, and trichloracetic acid are some of the most common examples of weak acids.
