Patient derived xenografts are models of cancer where the tissue or cells from a patient’s tumor are implanted into an immunodeficient or humanized mouse.
Unlike creating xenograft mouse models using existing cancer cell lines, there are no intermediate in vitro processing steps before implanting tumor fragments into a murine host to create a PDX. The tumor fragments are either implanted heterotopically or orthotopically into an immunodeficient mouse.
Cancer cell lines are originally derived from patient tumors, but acquire the ability to proliferate within in vitro cell cultures.
When implanted into immunodeficient mice, cell lines do not easily develop tumors and the result of any successfully grown tumor is a genetically divergent tumor unlike the heterogeneous patient tumor.

To preempt the chances of molecular incompatibility between pigs and humans leading to immune complications, genetic engineering tweaks the genome of the pig to that the human immune system does not recognize that it is that of a pig, increasing chances of the surgery being successful.
In the latest case, the donor pig’s hearts went through 10 genetic modifications, and four pig gens were replaced by six human genes.
The pig’s heart was removed from the pig’s body and placed in a special machine to preserve it until Bennett’s surgery.

In the present work, yttria-stabilized zirconia coatings of 300 μm were applied over type 316L SS with a metallic bond coating of 50 μm by an optimized plasma spray process, and were assessed for the corrosion behaviour in molten LiCl-KCl medium at 873 K for periods of 5 h, 100 h, 250 h and 500 h. The as-coated and tested samples were examined by optical microscopy and SEM for homogeneity, penetration of molten salt through coating and corrosion of type 316L SS substrate.

NEW DELHI – Representatives of SoftBank Group Corp will step down from the boards of Indian digital payments firm Paytm and the parent of online insurance aggregator Policybazaar, a person with direct knowledge of the matter said.
The decision is part of SoftBank’s global strategy to exit from the boards of most of its listed portfolio companies, said the source, adding that the Japanese tech conglomerate expected it would leave fewer regulatory issues to tackle.
SoftBank will retain its shareholding in the two Indian companies, added the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity as the matter has not yet been made public.
Paytm and Policybazaar did not immediately respond to Reuters request for comment.
Both Paytm, formally known as One97 Communications, and PB Fintech Ltd, the parent of Policybazaar, went public last year.
Business news website Moneycontrol first reported the development.

NEW DELHI: PB Fintech, which has Policybazaar as a wholly-owned subsidiary, received a rating upgrade by JM Financial.
It now has a ‘buy’ rating for the stock against ‘hold’ earlier, as it believes that the market is overly cautious on the insurance distribution platform.
“We were already appreciative of the business model and the recent stock price correction also makes the risk-reward extremely favourable. We continue to believe that Policybazaar will remain the dominant insurance distribution platform in India and upgrade PB Fintech to ‘buy’ rating with a March 2023 target of Rs 980, using DCF valuation methodology as an intrinsic valuation approach seems more plausible in light of the volatile markets,” it said.
Since making a high of Rs 1,470, PB Fintech has corrected 52 per cent despite the company reporting 44 per cent YoY 9MFY22 revenue growth and announcing a what JM Financial said was gamechanging partnership with Life Insurance Corporation of India.
JM Financial said PB Fintech has seen rapid improvement in adjusted Ebitda margin to reach in FY21 since dipping to 58 per cent in FY19.
“On a consolidated basis, we estimate PB Fintech to have a contribution margin of 27.5 per cent in FY25 that would be able to recoup the fixed costs of Rs 928.60 crore.”
