Huon Aquaculture is a large aquaculture and food processing enterprise located in Tasmania.
Founded in 1986, Huon has grown to become second largest salmon producer in the state, after ASX listed Tassal, it employs 487 Tasmanians and produces 25,000 tonnes of salmon annually.
It became a subsidiary of the Brazilian meat processing company JBS S.A. in November 2021.
Huon operates fish pens in Storm Bay, off Bruny Island, Macquarie Harbour, near Strahan, and Hideaway Bay, near Dover, a fish processing, packing and value-added facility in Parramatta Creek, Tasmania.
In 2020, Huon Aquaculture was convicted of environmental breaches in regard to its operations at Whale Point and fined $40,000.

Tasmania, Australia-based Huon Aquaculture is entertaining offers from a number of suitors interesting in acquiring the struggling salmon-farming firm.
JBS is one of several global food players “Looking to increase their footprint in the aquaculture industry,” Baker said, and acquiring Huon would give Sealord “a potential international look.”
A representative of JBS’ commercial seafood operations confirmed with SeafoodSource the company’s desire to expand operations in the salmon business, but did not comment on its interest in Huon.

Contacted on 29 July by SeafoodSource, company spokesperson Giles Rafferty declined to comment on whether Huon will be sold.
Huon Aquaculture is hoping JBS’s takeover will mature this financial year.
Huon said it was expecting conditions to improve in 2022.”The outlook for revenue is more positive compared to this time last year,” it told the exchange.
“Retail demand in the domestic market has returned to its long-term average growth rate of 10 per cent and Huon will deliver its first full twelve months of sales under two new three-year contracts with Coles and Woolworths.”
JBS’s takeover bid will play out over the next few months.
A scheme booklet will be sent out to shareholders outlining the details and benefits of the deal in September and then they will vote at a shareholder meeting a month later.

A Global Assessment Of Salmon Aquaculture Impacts On Wild Salmonids
Since the late 1980s, wild salmon catch and abundance have declined dramatically in the North Atlantic and in much of the northeastern Pacific south of Alaska.
In these areas, there has been a concomitant increase in the production of farmed salmon.
Previous studies have shown negative impacts on wild salmonids, but these results have been difficult to translate into predictions of change in wild population survival and abundance.
We compared marine survival of salmonids in areas with salmon farming to adjacent areas without farms in Scotland, Ireland, Atlantic Canada, and Pacific Canada to estimate changes in marine survival concurrent with the growth of salmon aquaculture.
Through a meta-analysis of existing data, we show a reduction in survival or abundance of Atlantic salmon; sea trout; and pink, chum, and coho salmon in association with increased production of farmed salmon.
In many cases, these reductions in survival or abundance are greater than 50%. Meta-analytic estimates of the mean effect are significant and negative, suggesting that salmon farming has reduced survival of wild salmon and trout in many populations and countries.

Existing aquaculture operations are demonstrating that land-based closed-containment technology is adequate for the production of salmon smolts, as well as caviar and many varieties of food fish.

Notwithstanding the benefits of using fish meal and oils in salmon diet for human health, the practice not only makes salmon diets expensive, but also increases overfishing of target marine fish species, and so runs contrary to sound principles of conservation of aquatic biodiversity.
These research efforts, among a majority of other and ongoing studies, are being incorporated in to breeding schemes by salmon farmers, and demonstrate the importance of salmonids both as high value fish food and sentinel species for human consumption and conservation respectively, and partly explain why farmed salmon production is always on the increase.

ChannelEngine Gets $49.8M In Series B Round
ChannelEngine, the online marketplace integration platform, has closed a Series B funding round for 45.5 million euros, according to a press release.
The company wants to “Become the world’s largest ecommerce network and operating platform” using its management suite, which connects brands, wholesalers and retailers with its global eCommerce market.
The release said ChannelEngine is aiming to “Boost international sales” through tools like automated repricing, content, stock and order management.
The release noted that the eCommerce market has been doing well for now and could be worth $5.9 trillion in 2023 as more global marketplaces take form.
The release added that established players like Amazon and eBay are now being joined by more brick and mortar stores moving their markets online.
“We’re in the midst of a profound shift in eCommerce as brands are increasingly selling directly to consumers via open online marketplaces such as Amazon, Walmart and Zalando,” said ChannelEngine CEO and founder Jorrit Steinz.
The two-year tally is reportedly almost $610 billion more than the eCommerce spending total from March 2018 through February 2020, according to the report.

General Catalyst has raised $600 million for a new Health Assurance Fund, the firm says, its first vertical-focused vehicle and one that looks to build on recent success like Livongo, the diabetes monitoring company that was acquired by Teladoc in a $18.5 billion deal that closed last October.
Led by Hemant Taneja, now the firm’s sole managing partner, the new health-focused fund will invest in early-stage and growth-stage healthcare businesses while providing upside to hospital systems and healthcare providers who have joined as limited partners in the fund.
The new fund comes as part of a busy few months of expansion for General Catalyst, the firm founded in 2000 that has more than $8 billion in assets and raised $2.3 billion in funds as recently as last year.
General Catalyst has also worked on three special purpose acquisition companies, or SPACs, recently, including a $500 million healthcare SPAC and a $500 million one focused on the intersection of pharmaceuticals and digital health.
Joining Taneja in the healthcare fund is Chris Bischoff, a healthcare investor based in London who joined General Catalyst from Kinnevik AB in February.

Pennsylvania’s Supreme Court on Friday issued a temporary halt to an inspection of Dominion voting machines in the state’s Fulton County just before the inspection was set to begin.
The decision came in response to a decision from a lower court in which a state judge declined to halt what Republican state lawmakers call a “Forensic investigation” of the state’s election equipment, according to the Associated Press.
The lower court rejected requests filed last week from attorneys representing Governor Tom Wolf and Dominion Voting Systems to establish strict protocols over who is allowed to inspect the voting machines.
The requests made last week stated that Dominion and state officials wanted the investigation to be halted unless it could be completed by an accredited elections inspector, according to the Pennsylvania Capital-Star.
Wolf’s administration and Dominion first objected to the idea of the voting machine inspection last month, according to the AP. Last July, the election machines used in Fulton County were decertified by acting Pennsylvania Secretary of State Veronica Degraffenreid after county officials allowed the machines to be inspected by Wake TSI, a separate software company, the AP reported.
The inspection was set to begin in a meeting that started at 1 p.m. Friday before Tom Breth, another attorney for the county, announced to those assembled that the state Supreme Court had halted the investigation, the AP added.

We don’t exactly have a solid list of events for the year.
If you were expecting Electronic Arts to return with an EA Play Live 2022, then we have some unfortunate news.
“We love EA Play Live as it’s our way of connecting with our players and sharing what’s new with all of you,” EA told IGN. “However, this year things aren’t lining up to show you everything on one date. We have exciting things happening at our world-class studios and this year we’ll reveal much more about these projects when the time is right for each of them. We look forward to spending time with you throughout the year!”.
Since 2020, EA has hosted its EA Play Live in lieu of E3. During that tumultuous year, the ESA decided to cancel the typically in-person E3, leaving publishers to showcase games in their own events.
With EA Play Live 2020, the company revealed games like Lost in Random and Star Wars: Squadrons.
EA is skipping the whole Play Live business altogether.
So long as we can avoid the half-dozen or so game events in a single year.

Electronic Arts will not be holding an EA Play Live event during 2022, the publisher announced this week.
The annual EA Play Live event typically takes place during the summer amid things like E3 and the rest of the big gaming events, but EA has opted instead to not hold one central event where its announcements will be shared.
The confirmation of EA Play Live’s cancellation was shared by an EA representative in a statement to IGN. The publisher said it loved how EA Play Live connected the community but said that things weren’t “Lining up” to hold the event this year.
“We love EA Play Live as it’s our way of connecting with our players and sharing what’s new with all of you,” the statement said.
EA had not been hyping up its EA Play Live event for 2022 or anything of that nature, but the return of the event was an expected one since it’s taken place in past years whether in-person or via an online format.
This event is the same one previously known simply as EA Play but was rebranded to EA Play Live after the publisher’s subscription service adopted the former as its name.
No big event to look forward to means it’s harder to pinpoint when we’ll hear about those sorts of games, but the summer will hopefully still bring news about EA’s projects even if the central event isn’t happening.

On 22 October 2019, Biogen announced that it would be restarting the FDA approval process for aducanumab stating that analysis of a larger dataset claimed that the drug reduced clinical decline in patients with early Alzheimer’s disease when given at higher doses.
In November 2020, a panel of outside experts on the FDA’s Peripheral and Central Nervous System Advisory Committee concluded that a pivotal study of aducanumab failed to show “Strong evidence” that the drug worked, along with potential safety issues, and suggested that the FDA not approve aducanumab, citing questionable efficacy and multiple “Red flags” found with the data analysis.
The June 2021 approval of the drug by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is considered controversial because clinical trials gave conflicting results on its effectiveness.
AAN Calls For More Guidance For Aducanumab Use In Alzheimer Disease
The safe prescription of aducanumab, an amyloid-β-directed human immunoglobulin G1 monoclonal antibody, in patients with symptomatic Alzheimer disease will require a substantial investment in both human and physical infrastructure, according to a systematic review published in Neurology.
In the current study, a panel of researchers systematically reviewed the available clinical trial data that detailed the use of aducanumab in individuals with early symptomatic AD. The researchers assigned level of evidence statements, based on the 2017 American Academy of Neurology therapeutic classification of evidence scheme, and presented clinical considerations regarding use of the agent.
Overall, 1 of the trials was rated class I and 3 of them were rated class II. Trial 1 was a class I, phase 1, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, single ascending-dose study of aducanumab in patients with mild to moderate AD dementia.
Trial 2 was a class II, phase 1, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of multiple doses of aducanumab in patients with prodromal or mild AD. Trials 3 and 4 were identically designed class II, phase 3, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled studies that evaluated the safety and efficacy of aducanumab in patients with prodromal or mild symptomatic AD. Results of the class I study demonstrated that single doses of aducanumab of up to 30 mg/kg were safe and well tolerated.
Although efficacy data from the class II trials varied according to dose and outcome, aducanumab either had no effect on mean change in the Clinical Dementia Rating® Sum-of-Boxes scores or was associated with less worsening, which was of uncertain clinical significance.
The researchers concluded that “Evidence-based guidance is needed to address key questions and critical issues relating to access to aducanumab that will inform shared decision-making between patients and providers.”

Biogen And Eisai Revise Agreements On Alzheimer’S Disease Therapies
Biogen and Eisai have revised their current partnership agreements on Alzheimer’s disease therapies, aducanumab and lecanemab.
Eisai will not take part in Aduhelm’s economics beyond these royalty payments once the tiered royalty model becomes effective next year.
The supply agreement linked to lecanemab for commercial production by Biogen has been increased to ten years from five years.
Biogen and Eisai will progress to carry out the co-development and co-commercialisation of lecanemab.
Eisai is in charge of the development and regulatory submissions linked to lecanemab globally while the companies are jointly commercialising and promoting it.
Both parties equally share the economics while Eisai handles complete sales of the product and Biogen is eligible for half of the profit and loss shares.
The lecanemab drug substance will be produced by Biogen in its facility in Solothurn, Switzerland, to offer a steady commercial supply of the therapy globally.
