Debt Collection FAQs
The FTC enforces the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, which makes it illegal for debt collectors to use abusive, unfair, or deceptive practices when they collect debts.
If you don’t recognize a debt, send the debt collector a letter, and ask for verification of the debt.
Once you get the validation information, if you don’t recognize a debt, or don’t think the debt is yours, send the debt collector a dispute letter saying you don’t owe some or all of the money, and ask for verification of the debt.
If a debt collector is trying to collect more than one debt from you, the collector must apply any payment you make to the debt you choose.
If you have an unpaid debt, a creditor or the debt collector it hires may get a court order to try to take money from your bank account to pay the debt.
Debt doesn’t usually go away, but debt collectors do have a limited amount of time to sue you to collect on a debt.
Before you make any payment to settle a debt, get a signed letter from the collector that says the amount you’re paying settles the entire debt – and you no longer owe anything for that debt.
What Is Debt Collection And How Does It Work?
Debt collection is the process of recovering old debt that the borrower has failed to repay.
Debt collection agencies will buy out the original debt for pennies on the dollar after you fail to pay back the debt to the original creditor – and then go after you.
If you don’t dispute the debt within 30 days, the agency considers your debt valid, and they can continue to contact you to collect a debt.
Because of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, or FDCPA, you as a consumer don’t have to stand for harassment and threats from debt collectors.
Debt collection agencies are required by the FDCPA to send you a debt validation letter before you pay anything.
A debt validation letter will also outline how much is owed, the type of debt owed, details about the creditor and other important information.
Collecting a past-due debt is a legal way for creditors and debt collection agencies to get money that’s owed to them.
The 5 Best Debt Collection Agencies Of 2022

How To Pay Off Debt Collections
Your debt in collections can still be reported to the credit bureaus, and the debt collector still can file a lawsuit against you to recoup its money.
A federal law known as the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act governs how debt collectors interact with you.
Under the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act, a debt collector can’t be abusive, deceptive or unfair when it’s trying to collect money from you.
As we’ve gone over, the best ways to pay off debt that’s gone to collections are to negotiate a lump-sum payment or set up a payment plan.
Starting the process of paying off the debt is a big step toward saying goodbye to debt collectors and, eventually, to the debt.
Prioritizing the debt that’s in collections can help avoid further harm to your credit and can get rid of your debt collection headache.
Collection accounts can drag down your credit scores, but paying off or settling a debt that’s in collections may not necessarily improve your credit scores.

The Downham Market No.2 circuit is connected electrically in parallel to the Northwold No.1 circuit, but it is almost half the length of the Northwold No.1 circuit.
During peak export, the thermal capacity of the Downham Market No.2 circuit is reached before that of the two other circuits because the loads are unbalanced across the paralleled circuits.
The output of the CHP generator is managed by an existing automatic generator turndown scheme which monitors the loadings on the outgoing 33kV circuits, along with the status of circuit breakers.
Figure 7: Scatter graph showing recorded circuit loadings at Tap 11 The graphs in Figure 7 above were extrapolated by increasing CHP export by a further 10MW from 54MW to 64MW. Based on the extrapolated circuit load trend lines, it is projected that with the CHP export approaching 54MW the load on the Downham Market No.2 circuit would be approximately 23MW – which is 7MW below the winter static rating.
The increase in the load in the Downham Market No.2 circuit for the period 15 June 2014 to 23 July 2014 was because the Quadrature-booster was switched out of service and the Downham Market No.2 circuit placed on by-pass in order to carry out planned improvement works on the Quadrature-booster.
Figure 8 shows that the Downham Market No.2 circuit was loaded approximately twice as much load as was on each of the Northwold No.1 and Southery No.3 circuits for the period September 2012 to June 2013 as expected.
With an average of approximately 800A delivered by the CHP generator, the Downham Market No.2 circuit was loaded at approximately 400A with both the Northwold No.1 and Southery No.3 circuits carrying approximately 200A each on average.

Actually come to think of it I don’t know if I ever found out, or just meant to find out how a Delta to Wye shifts by 30o, because I certainly can’t remember now.
Ok, from what you said ” In an equilateral triangle, the bisector of any angle is perpendicular to and bisects the opposite side.
Phase B’s real current is perpendicular to phase AC’s voltage, and so on around the three vertices.
” I assume you chose Phase B just as an example phase from what you described I imagine it’d look something like this: Sorry but I haven’t used vector diagrams in ages, I perhaps understand less than you might expect, do you think you could elaborate on the picture a bit, because I wasn’t comfortable enough to label it myself, I was thinking the outside equilateral sides were the Delta phase voltage angles, but were the verticies? The series transformer on the side bucking the existing phase voltages? I still haven’t gotten past the mental block between where I am and understanding it.

What Is Supplier Diversity And Why Is It Important?
In this guide, we’ll be covering what supplier diversity is, how it benefits both the purchaser and the community, types of diverse suppliers, and some general tips on building or overhauling a supplier diversity program.
Supplier Diversity programs encourage companies to procure from businesses owned by traditionally underrepresented or underserved people such as veterans, women, people of color, and members of other groups.
It’s essential to manage them with a robust supplier diversity program to ensure the most benefit for both the purchasing company and the broader community.
Many companies with supplier diversity programs measure indicators of this economic impact like jobs supported and money contributed to the economy to show how their diversity programs affect the world around them.
Whether starting or revamping a supplier diversity program, it’s important to treat it as more than an opportunity to get good publicity.
The best supplier diversity programs involve the buyer mentoring and actively engaging with its diverse suppliers at the first and second tiers.
Lack of supplier diversity rules for Tier 2, 3, or 4 suppliers.
Why You Need A Supplier-Diversity Program
A handful of socially conscious major companies have long played a role in addressing racial injustice through supplier diversity programs that promote an inclusive approach to procurement.
The Right Thing to Do. Supplier diversity programs can be part of a company’s efforts to maintain high moral and ethical standards.
Kris Oswold, vice president of global supplier diversity at UPS, told us that her company’s supplier diversity program, which started in 1992, grew out of its deepening desire to be more inclusive and do what is right.
In an interview, Terrez Thompson, vice president of global supply inclusion and diversity at Coca-Cola, highlighted the role that diversity programs play in fostering entrepreneurship in highly impacted minority groups.
Fifty-two percent of respondents to a survey conducted for UPS by Hootology, a specialized marketing and consumer insights research firm, said they want to work for a company that has a supplier diversity and inclusion program, according to Oswold.
In a 2019 study for Coca-Cola, Hootology, itself a diverse supplier, found that the individuals who were aware of Coca-Cola’s supplier diversity initiatives were 45% more likely to perceive the brand as valuing diversity, 25% were more likely to think favorably about the brand, and 49% were more likely to use Coca-Cola products.
Creating a supplier diversity program might be difficult in the near term in specialized markets where there are very few qualified suppliers such as defense.
Supply Chain Game Changer™
With all of the societal issues circulating around race, racism and discrimination it’s important to understand how this pertains to Supply Chain and what role Supply Chain plays in this arena.
“A Supplier Diversity program is a proactive business program which encourages the use of minority-owned, women owned, veteran owned, LGBT-owned , service disabled veteran owned, historically underutilized business, and Small Business Administration-defined small business concerns as suppliers.”
“It is not directly correlated with supply chain diversification, although utilizing more vendors may enhance supply chain diversification. Supplier diversity programs recognize that sourcing products and services from previously under-used suppliers helps to sustain and progressively transform a company’s supply chain, thus quantitatively reflecting the demographics of the community in which it operates by recording transactions with diverse suppliers.”
“Supplier Diversity is a strategic business process aimed at providing companies owned by aboriginal peoples and minorities an equal opportunity to become suppliers to major corporations across Canada and the US.”.
“It is an initiative by corporations to ensure they are being inclusive in their supply chain practices to suppliers of diverse backgrounds, while at the same time capitalizing on the opportunity for competitive advantage and community engagement that comes from working more closely with a broader range of aboriginal and minority suppliers.”
First most of the suppliers we were informed of were not production material suppliers but rather non-production, or indirect procurement spend or MRO candidates only.
Second most of the suppliers were extremely small and finding matches with what they supplied and what we needed was difficult to say the least.

Supplier Diversity: How To Overcome Four Key Obstacles
UPS, Target, Pacific Gas and Electric, and other leaders have been building more diverse supplier pools for decades, a move that benefits their bottom lines and reduces supplier turnover.
The company’s supplier diversity team holds business fairs at its Minneapolis headquarters that give diverse vendors an opportunity to present their products to Target’s buyers alongside traditional suppliers.
One of the key reasons supplier diversity initiatives flounder is that organizations underinvest in the capabilities required to support new or developing suppliers, including onboarding, risk mitigation, and mentoring.
Leadership teams seeking to build a more diverse supplier base typically target the Tier 1 supplier pool and don’t take the next step of increasing diversity among Tier 2 suppliers-or broadening the scope of their commitment to work with companies that may not have a minority owner but excel at diversity in hiring, leadership training, and organizational culture.
Leaders in supplier diversity implement a multiyear vision that reaches beyond Tier 1 suppliers.
These leaders integrate supplier diversity initiatives into the firm’s broader strategy, ensure organizational alignment, commit sufficient resources to build new capabilities, and look beyond the Tier 1 supply base to develop a deep and sustainable supplier ecosystem.
Many companies struggle with meeting their supplier diversity objectives, but leaders have learned how to overcome the obstacles.

The use of collaborative software in the work space creates a collaborative working environment.
Collaborative software relates to the notion of collaborative work systems, which are conceived as any form of human organization that emerges any time that collaboration takes place, whether it is formal or informal, intentional or unintentional.
Whereas the groupware or collaborative software pertains to the technological elements of computer-supported cooperative work, collaborative work systems become a useful analytical tool to understand the behavioral and organizational variables that are associated to the broader concept of CSCW. Douglas Engelbart first envisioned collaborative computing in 1951 and documented his vision in 1962, with working prototypes in full operational use by his research team by the mid-1960s, and held the first public demonstration of his work in 1968 in what is now referred to as “The Mother of All Demos.” The following year, Engelbart’s lab was hooked into the ARPANET, the first computer network, enabling them to extend services to a broader userbase.

Productivity Definition
Labor productivity may be further broken down by sector to examine trends in labor growth, wage levels, and technological improvement.
At the corporate level, productivity is a measure of the efficiency of a company’s production process, it is calculated by measuring the number of units produced relative to employee labor hours or by measuring a company’s net sales relative to employee labor hours.
The most commonly reported productivity measure is labor productivity published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Gains in productivity can occur both in recessions and in expansions-as it did in the late 1990s-so one needs to take economic context into account when analyzing productivity data.
We simply need to divide the $1 million figure by 5,000 labor hours in order to get our productivity number: $20 in sales for each hour of labor.
What does productivity mean? Productivity is the level of efficiency in the production process.
What is productivity in the workplace? Productivity in the workplace refers simply to how much “Work” is done over a specific period of time.

Psychology Today
Productivity generally refers to the ability of an individual, team, or organization to work efficiently within that time in order to maximize output.
High productivity results from a mix of factors: motivation, personality, natural talent, training or education, environment, support from others, time management, and even luck.
Physical elements also play a role in fostering productivity: Exercise, healthy eating, and sufficient sleep can boost efficiency both in the short- and long-term.
An individual’s productivity hinges on mental energy and a sense of internal and external motivation.
There are countless ways for productivity to be derailed.
It takes time for the brain to disengage from one set of tasks and to commit to another, so switching between many tasks at once will slow overall productivity.
Technology poses an endless supply of immediate distractions as well; avoiding them as much as possible should help fuel productivity.
Productivity
There are many different definitions of productivity and the choice among them depends on the purpose of the productivity measurement and/or data availability.
The key source of difference between various productivity measures is also usually related to how the outputs and the inputs are aggregated into scalars to obtain such a ratio-type measure of productivity.
Historically, productivity has improved through evolution as processes with poor productivity performance are abandoned and newer forms are exploited.
Drivers of productivity growth for creative and knowledge workers include improved or intensified exchange with peers or co-workers, as more productive peers have a stimulating effect on one’s own productivity.
The matter is subject to a continuing debate that has grown beyond questioning whether just computers can significantly increase productivity to whether the potential to increase productivity is becoming exhausted.

At its simplest, labour productivity is the amount of output per worker.
The productivity of a factory worker making footballs, for example, could be measured by how many footballs they make in one hour.
It is worth the effort as productivity is an important measure of a country’s economic performance.
According to research from the Chartered Management Institute, it found that an “Always on” work culture of ever increasing hours and rocketing stress levels could be one of the driving forces behind the UK’s poor productivity.
In most OECD countries, the drop in productivity has been particularly marked in those industries where new digital and technological innovations were expected to generate productivity dividends, such as in the information, communication, finance and insurance sectors.
Many challenges lie ahead for the countries lagging behind on productivity, and economists have been debating this question of how to improve productivity for years.

Pembrolizumab
As of 2019, pembrolizumab is used via intravenous infusion to treat inoperable or metastatic melanoma, metastatic non-small cell lung cancer in certain situations, as a first-line treatment for metastatic bladder cancer in patients who cannot receive cisplatin-based chemotherapy and have high levels of PD-L1, as a second-line treatment for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, after platinum-based chemotherapy, for the treatment of adult and pediatric patients with refractory classic Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and recurrent locally advanced or metastatic esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.
For NSCLC, pembrolizumab is a first-line treatment if the cancer overexpresses PD-L1, a PD-1 receptor ligand, and the cancer has no mutations in EGFR or in ALK; if chemotherapy has already been administered, then pembrolizumab can be used as a second-line treatment, but if the cancer has EGFR or ALK mutations, agents targeting those mutations should be used first.
In July 2021, the U.S. FDA approved pembrolizumab for high-risk, early-stage, triple-negative breast cancer in combination with chemotherapy as neoadjuvant treatment, and then continued as a single agent as adjuvant treatment after surgery.
If a person is taking corticosteroids or immunosuppressants, those drugs should be stopped before starting pembrolizumab because they may interfere with pembrolizumab; they may be used after pembrolizumab is started to deal with immune-related adverse effects.
On 2 October 2015, the US FDA approved pembrolizumab for the treatment of metastatic non-small cell lung cancer in patients whose tumors express PD-L1 and who have failed treatment with other chemotherapeutic agents.
In June 2019, the US FDA granted accelerated approval to pembrolizumab for those with metastatic small cell lung cancer with disease progression on or after platinum-based chemotherapy and at least one other prior line of therapy, and the FDA approved pembrolizumab for the first-line treatment of patients with metastatic or unresectable recurrent head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.
As of May 2016, pembrolizumab was in Phase IB clinical trials for triple-negative breast cancer, gastric cancer, urothelial cancer, and head and neck cancer and in Phase II trial for TNBC. At ASCO, in June 2016, Merck reported that the clinical development program was directed to around 30 cancers and that it was running over 270 clinical trials and had four registration-enabling studies in process.

Pembrolizumab
On August 5, 2016, the U. S. Food and Drug Administration granted accelerated approval to pembrolizumab for the treatment of patients with recurrent or metastatic head and neck squamous cell carcinoma with disease progression on or after platinum-containing chemotherapy.
Patients received intravenous pembrolizumab 10 mg/kg every 2 weeks or 200 mg every 3 weeks.
Among the 28 responding patients, 23 had responses of 6 months or longer.
Safety data was evaluated in 192 patients with HNSCC receiving at least one dose of pembrolizumab 10 mg/kg every 2 weeks or 200 mg every 3 weeks.
Adverse reactions occurring in patients with HNSCC were similar to those occurring in patients with melanoma or NSCLC, with the exception of an increased incidence of facial edema and new or worsening hypothyroidism.
As a condition of the accelerated approval, Merck is required to conduct a multicenter, randomized trial establishing the superiority of pembrolizumab over standard therapy to verify and describe the clinical benefit of pembrolizumab.
Merck has an ongoing multicenter, randomized trial in patients with recurrent or met HNSCC with disease progression on or after platinum-containing chemotherapy with a primary endpoint of overall survival.
Pembrolizumab
The development of the cytotoxic T-lymphocyte-associated protein 4 inhibitor ipilimumab and its approval in 2011 for the treatment of metastatic melanoma has heralded a new era in immuno-oncology.
Subsequently, novel agents against the programmed death receptor 1/programmed death receptor ligand 1 axis have shown significant activity in melanoma and a variety of other tumor types.
Pembrolizumab was the first anti-PD-1 antibody to be approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of patients with unresectable or metastatic melanoma with disease progression following ipilimumab, and if BRAF mutation positive, a BRAF inhibitor.
Pembrolizumab has also received breakthrough status for the treatment of EGFR mutation-negative, ALK rearrangement-negative non-small cell lung cancer that has progressed on or following platinum-based chemotherapy.
There remain a number of pivotal trials in progress to further evaluate the optimal use of pembrolizumab alone and in combination for melanoma, NSCLC, and other tumor types.
In this article, we review the efficacy and toxicity profile of pembrolizumab and evaluate its future development.

A small residual role for monotherapy remains, particularly in patients who are more likely to have a negative response to therapy, patients suspected of having PVOD/PCH, and patients older than 75 years or with multiple risk factors for heart failure with preserved ejection fraction.
Patients with very mild disease and stable patients with a low-risk profile while on long-term monotherapy may also be appropriate candidates for continued monotherapy.

In the pivotal GRIPHON trial, the majority of patients enrolled were already taking background PAH medication, with 15% on an ERA alone, 32% on a PDE5I alone, and 33% taking both an ERA and a PDE5I.97 Additional positive studies that included large numbers of patients receiving combination therapy are shown ineTables 84.2.
Medical TherapyMedical therapy may be elected in select patients, particularly in patients with BMAH or PPNAD, in patients who are poor surgical candidates, and in patients with CS due to metastatic adrenal cortical carcinoma.
Coronary RevascularizationMedical therapy alone is the preferred treatment in patients with stable CAD. The two indications for coronary revascularization in patients with CAD are prolongation of life and relief of unacceptable symptoms despite optimal medical management.
A randomized trial of 2287 patients with stable CAD and myocardial ischemia treated with optimal medical therapy alone or optimal medical therapy plus percutaneous coronary intervention showed at 4.6-year follow-up no significant difference in death, MI, or other major cardiovascular events.
Combination Therapy
Broadly, the effects of the combined treatment are those of the individual modalities.
The combination of US with IF appears to give rise to less adverse treatment effects than are associated with the combination of US with Diadynamic Currents, or other electrical stimulations.
In summary, it would appear that by combining the two treatment modalities, none of the individual effects of the treatments are lost, but the benefit is that lower treatment intensities can be used to achieve the same results, & there are additional potential benefits in terms of diagnosis & treatment times.
Treatment Notes A) Diagnostic Use of Combined Therapy It is suggested that a continuous US output of 0.5W/cm2 should be used for this procedure, though numerous practitioners do claim to have achieved significant results with lower intensities.
B) Treatment with Combined Therapy Diagnostic and therapeutic uses of Combination Therapy need not be used together.
When the required treatment times are similar, the combination of the modalities can save time and effort.
It is important to observe the safe & effective US treatment technique during combined treatment i.e. always using a moving treatment head, maintain effective contact, & maintain the perpendicular relationship between the treatment head & the patients skin whenever possible.
What Is Combination Therapy?
For well over half a century, physicians have had three main types of cancer treatments in their arsenal: surgery, radiation therapy, and chemo-, or drug, therapy.
As a general rule, solid tumors are usually treated by surgery, if confined to the site they started in, and/or radiation therapy to remove or reduce the tumor, followed by chemotherapy to eliminate any remaining tumor cells.
In many cases, combination therapy not only increases the chances of a cure or long-term remission, but also reduces damage to vital organs and tissues more than a single approach.
Where surgical amputation used to be the only treatment, the combination of radiation therapy and chemotherapy are often able to destroy the cancer without necessitating a loss of the limb.
Early-stage breast cancer often can be treated by removal of the tumor and surrounding tissue followed by radiation therapy.
One type of therapy can sometimes make a tumor more vulnerable to a second type.
Certain chemotherapy drugs, for example, can increase tumors’ vulnerability to radiation therapy.

Combination Therapies For Depression
Until recently, doctors prescribed an antidepressant medication from only a single class of drugs, one medication at one time.
Research now suggests that taking antidepressants from multiple classes may be the best way to treat MDD. On its own, bupropion is very effective at treating MDD, but it may also be used with other medications for depression that’s difficult to treat.
Bupropion is one of the most commonly used combination therapy medications.
Mirtazapine hasn’t been studied in depth as a combination medication.
They can be used alone, but they may also be used in combination with antidepressant medications.
Still, many doctors will begin treatment with a single antidepressant medication.
If the medication isn’t working as desired after a trial period – usually about 6 to 8 weeks – your doctor may wish to change medications or add a medication to see whether the combination helps.
Combination Chemotherapy: History, Benefits, And Risks
Combination chemotherapy is the use of more than one medication at a time to treat cancer.
Since chemotherapy drugs affect cancer cells at different points in the cell cycle, using a combination of drugs increases the chance that all of the cancer cells will be eliminated.
History of Combination Chemotherapy The use of combination chemotherapy to treat cancer was inspired in the 1960s when scientists wondered whether the approach to treating tuberculosis-using a combination of antibiotics to reduce the risk of resistance-would work for treating cancer as well.
In the 1970s, combination chemotherapy was found to be more effective than single drugs for people with lung cancer, as well as more effective than “Sequential chemotherapy”-i.e., using chemotherapy drugs one after the other.
When chemotherapy is used along with immunotherapy, benefits may go beyond using the combination of drugs.
Just as a combination of antibiotics may be used in case a particular bacteria is resistant to one of the medications, using two or more chemotherapy drugs reduces the risk that a tumor will be resistant to the treatment.
Combination chemotherapy can sometimes work to extend life, reduce the risk of cancer recurrence, and/or improve the results from immunotherapy.

Programmed Cell Death Protein 1 On Natural Killer Cells: Fact Or Fiction?
Programmed cell death protein 1 has become one of the most investigated targets for cancer immunotherapy.
Programmed cell death protein 1 is induced after T cells are activated and serves as a marker of activation that provides inhibitory signals to T cells after engagement of its ligand, programmed death ligand 1.
Interestingly PD-1 blockade can induce responses in various cancers with low expression of major histocompatibility complex class I, necessary for cytotoxic CD8+ T cell recognition, suggesting enhanced cytolytic activity by CD4+ T cells or effector cells capable of cytotoxicity independently of MHC.NK cells are cytotoxic lymphocytes that can eliminate virally infected cells and tumors using cytotoxicity mechanisms similar to CD8+ T cells, but that do not require recognition of MHC. Using deductive reasoning from the “Missing self” hypothesis, blocking PD-1 on NK cells may augment antitumor effects for tumors that are refractory to T cell treatments due to low MHC expression.
RT-PCR and Western blot data have shown, using both human NK cell lines and purified NK cells from healthy donors, that resting NK cells and IL-2-stimulated NK cells harbor a cytoplasmic pool of PD-1 mRNA and protein despite low surface-expression levels.
More data, specifically from patients given anti-PD-1 who are deficient in T cells or chimeric antigen receptor-modified NK cells that are engineered as PD-1 deficient, will ultimately inform the debate on whether PD-1 expression on NK cells is fact or fiction.
Programmed cell death protein-1/programmed death-ligand 1 blockade enhances the antitumor efficacy of adoptive cell therapy against non-small cell lung cancer.
Increased expression of programmed cell death protein 1 on NK cells inhibits NK-cell-mediated anti-tumor function and indicates poor prognosis in digestive cancers.
Programmed Cell Death Protein 1
Programmed cell death protein 1, also known as PD-1 and CD279, is a protein on the surface of T and B cells that has a role in regulating the immune system’s response to the cells of the human body by down-regulating the immune system and promoting self-tolerance by suppressing T cell inflammatory activity.
PD-1 is a cell surface receptor that belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily and is expressed on T cells and pro-B cells.
PD-L1 protein is upregulated on macrophages and dendritic cells in response to LPS and GM-CSF treatment, and on T cells and B cells upon TCR and B cell receptor signaling, whereas in resting mice, PD-L1 mRNA can be detected in the heart, lung, thymus, spleen, and kidney.
Reduced T cell proliferation was also correlated with attenuated IL-2 secretion and together, these data suggest that PD-1 negatively regulates T cell responses.
Consistent with a role in negatively regulating CD8+ T cell responses, using an LCMV viral vector model of chronic infection, Rafi Ahmed’s group showed that the PD-1-PD-L1 interaction inhibits activation, expansion and acquisition of effector functions of virus specific CD8+ T cells, which can be reversed by blocking the PD-1-PD-L1 interaction.
Anti-CTLA4 treatment leads to an enhanced antigen specific T cell dependent immune reaction while anti-PD-1 appears to reactivate CD8+ T cells ability to lyse cancer cells.
The authors hypothesized that the higher levels of CD8+ T cell infiltration was due to anti-CTLA-4 inhibited the conversion of CD4 T cells to T regulator cells and further reduced T regulatory suppression with anti-PD-1.
Programmed Cell Death Protein-1/Programmed Death-Ligand-1 Axis In Hepatocellular Carcinoma: Prognostic And Therapeutic Perspectives
Hepatocellular carcinoma is the most common primary neoplasia of the liver.
As opposed to other cancer entities immunotherapy has just recently gained popularity in HCC. Among various immunotherapy approaches, programmed cell death protein-1, and its ligand programmed death receptor ligand-1 axis became one of the most promising pathway of the decade.
The scientific interest in PD-1/PD-L1 axis is definitely justified due to: ability to detect PD-L1 expression in patients that underwent resection for HCC with prognostic values; the role of serum PD-L1 as a tool to identify early recurrences and to monitor treatment outcome; PD-1/PDL1 is a highly targetable pathway, with possible predictive markers, and with high clinical applicability that might help us in selecting a subgroup of HCC patients who are most likely to benefit from PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors.
In this review we will first discuss the prognostic role of PD-1/PD-L1 as a bio-marker in various clinical scenarios.
Afterwards we will critically analyse the recently published trials with PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors in HCC either alone or in combination with other treatment modalities.
The strengths and limits of PD-1/PD-L1 axis in both prognosis and therapy of HCC will be highlighted.
Keywords: Checkpoint inhibitors; Hepatocellular carcinoma; Immunotherapy; Ligand programmed death-ligand-1; Programmed cell death protein-1.
Programmed Cell Death Protein 1
Programmed cell death protein 1 is a protein that is preferentially expressed in the body’s immune B, T, and natural killer cells.
PD-1 is a transmembrane protein that binds to other proteins known as programmed death-ligand 1 and programmed death-ligand 2, which are members of a family of co-inhibitory/co-stimulatory molecules, known as B7. Taken together, PD-L1 and PD-L2 participate in antigen presentation and are expressed by a variety of cell types.
Although the molecular mechanisms of action are poorly understood, PD-1, when engaged with its PD-L1/2 receptor, interferes strongly with the signal transduction of the T cell receptor.
T cell functions can be enhanced by interfering with the signal transduction of PD-1.
PD-1 and T cell activation and peripheral tolerance.
In the midst of this regulation, PD-1 interacts with its PD-L1/2 ligands to send signals either directly or reversed to the cell expressing PD-1 or a cell expressing its ligands, respectively.
In addition to the aforementioned intended consequences, PD-1 is vital in the promotion of regulatory T cell development and the inhibition of self-reactive T cells, which have significant potential to be pathogenic.

Instrument transformers technology can also empower the grid with auxiliary power supply and highly precise power quality measurements.
Definition, Types And Connection
Instrument transformers are current and voltage transformation devices that are used to step down the transmission and distribution line voltages and currents to levels that can safely operate measuring instruments, protection devices and control relays by isolating it from the supply voltages.
Current transformers serve two purposes: 1) facilitates the measurement of high currents and 2) Insulation of meters, instruments and protection relays from high voltages.
The secondary circuit of connected of the current transformer must never be opened while the transformer is excited by primary current, because due to higher turns ratio, high voltages are induced at the secondary which may be hazardous to insulation and to personnel and because the accuracy of the transformer may be adversely affected.
Capacitive-coupled type: A capacitive-coupled voltage transformer is a combination of capacitance voltage divider and electromagnetic type PT. Optical type: An optical voltage transformer works on the principle of Kerr effect, by which the light which is reflected from a magnetized surface may change both polarization and reflected intensity.

Instrument Transformer
Instrument transformers are high accuracy class electrical devices used to isolate or transform voltage or current levels.
The most common usage of instrument transformers is to operate instruments or metering from high voltage or high current circuits, safely isolating secondary control circuitry from the high voltages or currents.
The primary winding of the transformer is connected to the high voltage or high current circuit, and the meter or relay is connected to the secondary circuit.
Current transformers are a series-connected type of instrument transformer.
A current clamp uses a current transformer with a split core that can be easily wrapped around a conductor in a circuit.
This is a common method used in portable current measuring instruments but permanent installations use more economical types of the current transformer.
Care must be taken that the secondary winding of a CT is not disconnected from its low-impedance load while current flows in the primary, as this may produce a dangerously high voltage across the open secondary and could permanently affect the accuracy of the transformer.

Flow-Through Shares
Certain corporations in the mining, oil and gas, and renewable energy and energy conservation sectors may issue FTSs to help finance their exploration and project development activities.
Junior resource corporations often have difficulty raising capital to finance their exploration and development activities.
Many are in a non-taxable position and do not need to deduct their resource expenses.
The FTS mechanism allows the issuer corporation to transfer the resource expenses to the investor.
A junior resource corporation, in particular, benefits greatly from FTS financing.
Deductions for resource expenses renounced by eligible corporations; and.
Investment tax credits for individuals on resource expenses in the mining sector that qualify as flow-through mining expenditures.
How Flow Through Shares Work
I’ve written several articles over the years on how flow through shares work, what they are, their associated advantages.
Overall, I think the most important takeaway when it comes to flow through shares is that they should really only be considered by people who are in high tax brackets and who really understand how risk and investing go together on an advanced level OR people who wish to donate in a very tax efficient manner.
Thoroughly understanding just how risky your flow through shares are, as well as your personal risk tolerance, are prerequisites for being successful in this field.
Another way to use flow through shares to your advantage is to make them work for you by maximizing your charitable donations.
Anyone can invest in flow through shares the corporation that issues the flow through shares must be a principal-business corporation.
I personally have dabbled in flow through shares, but have decided that long-term, the juice just isn’t worth the squeeze for me; consequently, I don’t currently possess any flow through shares in my portfolio.
Flow through shares can be purchased directly from companies offering them, through mutual fund firms, and even from your local financial advisor.
Flow-Through Shares
Executive Summary Flow-through shares are a financing tool available to a Canadian resource company that allows it to issue new equity to investors at a higher price than it would receive for “Normal” shares, thereby assisting it in raising money for exploration and development.
Essentially, the investors and the corporation agree that the investors will purchase flow-through shares from the corporation, the corporation will incur certain expenditures on CEE within a certain time period, and the corporation will renounce that CEE in favour of the investors.
The basic principle behind flow-through shares, which are unique to the resource sector in Canada, is that a mining corporation willing to forego the tax benefit of certain CEE and CDE amounts that it incurs can “Renounce” these expenditures to investors buying shares in the corporation in certain circumstances.
The corporation benefits because it can issue the shares to the shareholders for a higher price than they would otherwise be willing to pay, due to the tax benefit associated with being able to deduct the CEE or CDE. The investors benefit by being able to reduce their incomes for tax purposes by virtue of claiming deductions for the renounced CEE and CDE. While the corporation loses the ability to deduct the CEE or CDE renounced to the FTS investors, the net present value of those deductions may be quite small if the corporation is unlikely to have enough taxable income to utilize these deductions in the near future.
The agreement will provide that the PBC must incur qualifying expenditures at least equal to the amount to be paid for the shares within a set time period, and renounce them in favour of the FTS investors by no later than a certain date.
Table 1 sets out a simple example illustrating the consequences to a FTS investor who purchases 10,000 FTS of a mining company at a $1/share premium over the trading price of the “Ordinary” common shares of the company, and later sells them into the market at the prevailing trading price.
TABLE 1: FTS CASH-FLOW EXAMPLE Assumptions Flow-through shares purchased 10,000 Price per FTS $10 Mining company regular common share trading price $9 FTS premium per share $1 Investor’s federal /provincial tax rate 46% CEE renounced per FTS $10. Investor Cash Out Investor Cash In Cost of FTS $100,000 Tax savings from $100,000 renounced CEE $ 46,000 Investor’s proceeds from selling FTS in market $ 90,000 Tax owing on capital gain from sale of FTS $ 20,700.
Flow-Through Share
A flow-through share is a tax-based financing incentive that is available to, among others, the mining sector.
A FTS is a type of share issued by a corporation to a taxpayer, pursuant to an agreement with the corporation under which the issuing corporation agrees to incur eligible exploration expenses in an amount up to the consideration paid by the taxpayer for the shares.
The corporation “Renounces” to the taxpayer an amount in respect of the expenditures so that the exploration and development expenses are considered to be the taxpayer’s expenses for tax purposes.
As a result of the corporation renouncing the expenses, the shareholder can deduct the expenses as if incurred directly.
The FTSs must be newly issued shares that have the attributes generally attached to common shares.
The flow through donation financing structure helps senior Canadian philanthropists significantly reduce the after-tax cost of their charitable gifts while ensuring the charity chosen by the donor receives the full pledge amount immediately on closing and net of all fees and expenses.
The process is involves the simultaneous subscription to flow through shares, thus accessing the Canadian Exploration Expense and associated investment tax credit benefits, donation of the shares to the charity of the donors choice, and the sale by the charity of the shares to institutional investors which enables the original donor to receive a donation tax receipt.
Flow-Through Shares
Flow-through shares are stocks that can only be purchased directly from Canadian oil and mineral exploration companies, usually at a slight premium.
Flow-through shares are beneficial mainly to people in a high income tax bracket.
You need to be aware that the cost base of the shares is reduced by the deduction you have claimed.
Once you purchase the flow-through shares and have taken the CEE deduction, you are relying on the company to spend the money correctly.
It is common that the flow-through shares acquired may not be traded for an extended period, generally for 24 months, and you are subject to market risks related to the value of the shares.
In order for you to, at a minimum, break-even on the transaction, the market value of the shares when you sell them cannot be less than 63.45% of the original purchase price.
Purchasing flow-through shares can be very beneficial but, like any other venture into the stock market, does not come without risks.
Flow-Through Shares
THE MINERAL EXPLORATION TAX CREDIT. In addition to regular flow-through shares that provide 100% deduction for exploration, the federal METC is a 15% non-refundable tax credit applicable only to grassroots exploration in Canada, and deductible from federal income taxes payable.
Plus provincial and territorial deductions and tax credits.
PROVINCIAL TAX INCENTIVES. On top of the federal incentives, a number of provinces provide an additional incentive that further reduces net cost to the investor.
Additional tax credits that apply to the provincial portion of income tax.
Quebec allows investors to deduct up to 120% of the cost of certain qualifying exploration expenses incurred by non-producing companies.
The provincial deduction and tax credits apply only to expenditures in applicable provinces and are only available to taxpayers residing within, or otherwise taxable in, the jurisdiction where the exploration is taking place.
The effect of these incentives varies depending on the jurisdiction.
The higher the income tax bracket of the investor the higher the tax benefits of investing in flow-through shares would be.
If you purchase flow-through shares of qualifying companies, you can deduct up to 100% of the cost of the shares from your personal income.
If you purchased the share for $1 and sold it for $1, you would have a capital gain of $1. Due to the fact that you will have an income tax deduction of $1 as a result of the purchase of the flow-through share, and because only 50% of capital gains is included in your taxable income you would still have a net after-tax benefit from purchasing Flow-through shares.
Upon receipt of the shares, the charity immediately sells the shares to pre-arranged institutional investors and the donor receives a charitable donation tax receipt for the full value of the shares donated equal to the net intended gift plus the closing costs.
The format enables the donor to also simultaneously sell some of the shares to the same end buyer that will purchase the shares from the charity at the same price that the shares are sold by the charity according to a deal pre-arranged by the FTSD provider.
As a result of income tax changes that were implemented in 2012, capital gains tax is payable on donation of flow-through shares to charities.
FTSD structures use tax incentives available to all Canadians but the market risk normally associated with a flow-through share purchase is mitigated by arranging for the immediate sale of the shares, on date of issuance, to an end buyer, at an agreed price, negotiated at arm’s length by the FTSD provider.

Random-Access Memory
The two main types of volatile random-access semiconductor memory are static random-access memory and dynamic random-access memory.
Magnetic core memory was the standard form of computer memory system until displaced by solid-state MOS semiconductor memory in integrated circuits during the early 1970s.
Prior to the development of integrated read-only memory circuits, permanent random-access memory was often constructed using diode matrices driven by address decoders, or specially wound core rope memory planes.
MOS memory overtook magnetic core memory as the dominant memory technology in the early 1970s.
Dynamic random-access memory allowed replacement of a 4 or 6-transistor latch circuit by a single transistor for each memory bit, greatly increasing memory density at the cost of volatility.
This entire pool of memory may be referred to as “RAM” by many developers, even though the various subsystems can have very different access times, violating the original concept behind the random access term in RAM. Even within a hierarchy level such as DRAM, the specific row, column, bank, rank, channel, or interleave organization of the components make the access time variable, although not to the extent that access time to rotating storage media or a tape is variable.
First of all, as chip geometries shrink and clock frequencies rise, the transistor leakage current increases, leading to excess power consumption and heat… Secondly, the advantages of higher clock speeds are in part negated by memory latency, since memory access times have not been able to keep pace with increasing clock frequencies.
The human brain has memory, and it is the most essential part played by the brain, memory helps in remembering things, people remember their past due to the memory present in the brain computers have memory too.
In human brains, there are different ways of keeping a memory, like short-term memory, long-term memory, implicit memory, etc.
In computers, there are different types of memories or different ways of saving memories.
Cache memory is helpful in speeding up the CPU as it is a high-speed memory, It consumes less time but is very expensive.
RAM is a volatile memory, which means, it is present as long as the Computer is in ON state, as soon as the computer turns OFF, the memory is erased.
RAM is the fastest memory it is an internal memory for the computer.
SRAM is costlierSRAM has a lower densityThe power consumption of SRAM is less but when it is operated at higher frequencies, the power consumption of SRAM is compatible with DRAM.DRAM. DRAM is used for the Main memory, it has a different construction than SRAM, it used one transistor and one capacitor, it is needed to get recharge in milliseconds due to the presence of capacitor.
Random Access Memory
kB of RAM. In general, it is possible to extend the memory by adding external memory chips.
Data is written to the memory when the CE and the WE signals are active low, and data is read from the memory when the CE and the OE signals are active low.
The broadest classification is random access memory.
RAM is called random access memory because any data word is accessed with the same delay as any other.
Enhanced Dynamic Random Access Memory actually integrates SRAM within the DRAM, and is usually used as level 2 cache.
Is the most important type of memory in semiconductors because of high-speed access to a memory word at any address.
Memory cell for dynamic RAM.Every four or four and a half years, RAM with memory capacity four times greater than the previous one has been introduced with a new processing technology.
Random Access Memory
RAM is the internal memory of the CPU for storing data, program, and program result.
Access time in RAM is independent of the address, that is, each storage location inside the memory is as easy to reach as other locations and takes the same amount of time.
Data in the RAM can be accessed randomly but it is very expensive.
RAM is volatile, i.e. data stored in it is lost when we switch off the computer or if there is a power failure.
Static RAM. Dynamic RAM. Static RAM. The word static indicates that the memory retains its contents as long as power is being supplied.
SRAM is thus used as cache memory and has very fast access.
Dynamic RAM. DRAM, unlike SRAM, must be continually refreshed in order to maintain the data.
What Is RAM & What’S It Do?
Now that you know what RAM is and what it stands for, you’ll have a much better idea of how RAM works to help your computer streamline your work.
RAM stores the data that helps your computer perform its most important tasks, such as loading apps, browsing websites, and editing documents.
RAM lets you open apps and files quickly, because your computer can easily find the data in its short-term memory.
Another type of RAM is SDRAM, which is a subset of DRAM. SDRAM connects RAM to the computer’s system clock.
If you browse the web and edit basic documents like Word and Excel files, most computers will perform very well with 8 GB of RAM. You can easily check your RAM memory on your desktop or laptop computer, and it probably has between 4 and 8 GB – unless it’s really old.
While RAM is a computer’s short-term memory, ROM is the unique set of instructions a computer needs to turn on.
That’s why it’s essential to have enough RAM. How to speed up your devices without upgrading RAM. If your computer doesn’t have enough space to do what you need, the first solution is simple and much cheaper than buying more RAM – simply clear up more space.
Definition From SearchStorage
If RAM fills up, the computer’s processor must repeatedly go to the hard disk to overlay the old data in RAM with new data.
Having more RAM in a computer cuts down on the number of times the processor must read data from the hard disk, an operation that takes longer than reading data from RAM. RAM access time is in nanoseconds, while storage memory access time is in milliseconds.
Static RAM requires several transistors to retain one bit of data compared to dynamic RAM which needs only one transistor per bit.
History of RAM: RAM vs. SDRAM. RAM was originally asynchronous because the RAM microchips had a different clock speed than the computer’s processor.
With virtual memory, data is temporarily transferred from RAM to disk storage, and virtual address space is increased using active memory in RAM and inactive memory in an HDD to form contiguous addresses that hold an application and its data.
Using virtual memory, a system can load larger programs or multiple programs running at the same time, letting each operate as if it has infinite memory without having to add more RAM. Virtual memory is able to handle twice as many addresses as RAM. A program’s instructions and data are initially stored at virtual addresses, and once the program is executed, those addresses are turned into actual memory addresses.
With physical memory alone, programs work directly from RAM. RAM vs. flash memory.
What Does Computer Memory Do?
Not sure exactly what computer memory is for or how it works? We cover all the bases, from what RAM is to how it works and why it is worth getting an upgrade.
Computer random access memory is one of the most important components in determining your system’s performance.
There are ways to see if your computer needs more memory, and to make sure you are buying memory that is compatible with the other components in your system.
To prevent users from inserting incompatible memory, modules are physically different for each memory technology generation.
One of the reasons for industry-wide standardization in memory is that computer makers need to know the electrical parameters and physical shape of the memory that can be installed in their computers.
When you turn on your computer and open a spreadsheet to edit it, but first check your email, you’ll have used memory in several different ways.
Memory is almost always being actively used by your computer.

What Is Random Access?
Random access refers to the ability to access data at random.
In a random-access system, you can jump directly to point Z. Disks are random access media, whereas tapes are sequential access media.
The terms random access and sequential access are often used to describe data files.
A random-access data file enables you to read or writeinformation anywhere in the file.
In a sequential-access file, you can only read and write information sequentially, starting from the beginning of the file.
If you are always accessing information in the same order, a sequential-access file is faster.
If you tend to access information randomly, random access is better.
Random Access
Random access is the ability to access an arbitrary element of a sequence in equal time or any datum from a population of addressable elements roughly as easily and efficiently as any other, no matter how many elements may be in the set.
In computer science it is typically contrasted to sequential access which requires data to be retrieved in the order it was stored.
Given all the coordinates, a program can access each record about as quickly and easily as any other.
The operative attribute is that the device can access any required record immediately on demand.
The opposite is sequential access, where a remote element takes longer time to access.
A more modern example is a cassette tape and a CD. In data structures, direct access implies the ability to access any entry in a list in constant time.
Self-balancing binary search trees may provide an acceptable compromise, where access time is not equal for all members of a collection, but the maximum time to retrieve a given member grows only logarithmically with its size.
The algorithm required to solve a problem on a sequential computer is called a sequential algorithm.
Algorithms written to solve a problem on a parallel computer are called parallel algorithms.
The sequential algorithm is written in the form of steps, which are done sequentially by PE, i.e. sequential algorithm uses sequential steps to solve a problem.
In a parallel algorithm, we have to see where the communication is taking place, where we have to move the output of particular steps.
Algorithms written for a particular architecture cannot be applied to another architecture, in other words, to solve the same problem on different parallel computers, different algorithms must be written based on parallel computer architecture.
Each step, READ, COMPUTE, WRITE, is assumed to take O(1) time in the case of RAM. It should be noted that not all processors need to perform a given step of the algorithm.
Algorithms for PRAM have to specify which subset of processors should be active during the execution of a phase.
Definition From Techopedia
In computer science, random access is the capability to have access to any item from a given population of elements at random.
Random access is the opposite of sequential access, as sequential access locates elements by beginning at a particular predefined location and then traversing through all of the information in order to find the given item.
Apart from arrays there are only a few data structures which are capable of supporting random access.
Random access is also used in algorithms such as integer sorting and binary search.
One of the unique features of random access is that any required record can be accessed immediately on demand and access time is similar for a remote element as it would be for a nearby element.
In many electronic devices, accessing data sequentially works faster than accessing the data at random, mostly due to the manner in which the disk hardware has been designed.
The seek operation, in most cases, takes a larger number in case of random access compared to sequential access.
Random Access Response
As long as the devices that performed random access in the same resource used different preambles, no collision will occur and from the downlink signaling it is clear to which device(s) the information is related.
The device already has a unique identity allocated in the form of a C-RNTI.In the case of downlink beamforming, the random-access response should follow the beamforming used for the SS block, which was acquired during the initial cell search.
Unlike in idle mode, message 3 does not include an RRC message, and because the device has already been assigned with a C-RNTI, which the device includes in message 3, the contention resolution in the fourth step is in this case performed using C-RNTI rather than TC-RNTI.The base station can also order a device in CE mode A or B to initiate a random access procedure by sending a so-called MPDCCH order to the device.
1 Random access procedureThe rapid growth of the number of MTC devices complicates considerably their support in LTE-Advanced Networks and may significantly increase the probability of congestion and access failure when performing the random access procedure.
To attach or connect to the network, every MTC device should first accomplish the random access procedure.
M2M devices usually perform such access in a contention manner.
Step 1: Random access preamble transmission: in the first message, the MTC device chooses randomly a sequence code called a preamble, among the set of available preambles.

ALOHA, CSMA, CSMA/CA And CSMA/CD
The ALOHA protocol or also known as the ALOHA method is a simple communication scheme in which every transmitting station or source in a network will send the data whenever a frame is available for transmission.
Stations can transmit the data randomly i.e. any number of stations can transmit data at any time.
Till now we have understood that when 2 or more stations start sending data, then a collision occurs, so this CSMA method was developed to decrease the chances of collisions when 2 or more stations start sending their signals over the data link layer.
How do they do it? The CSMA makes each station to first check the medium before sending any data packet.
1-persistent mode: In this, first the node checks the channel, if the channel is idle then the node or station transmits data, otherwise it keeps on waiting and whenever the channel is idle, the stations transmit the data-frame.
Non-persistent mode: In this, the station checks the channel similarly as 1-persistent mode, but the only difference is that when the channel is busy it checks it again after a random amount of time, unlike the 1-persistent where the stations keep on checking continuously.
P-persistent mode: In this, the station checks the channel and if found idle then it transmits the data frame with the probability of P and if the data is not transmitted then the station waits for a random amount of time and again transmits the data with the probability P and this cycle goes on continuously until the data-frame is successfully sent.

In the fall of 2005, Ramtron reported that they were evaluating prototype samples of an 8-megabit FeRAM manufactured using Texas Instruments’ FeRAM process.
In a DRAM cell capacitor, a linear dielectric is used, whereas in a FeRAM cell capacitor the dielectric structure includes ferroelectric material, typically lead zirconate titanate.
In the figure a “1” is encoded using the negative remnant polarization “-Pr”, and a “0” is encoded using the positive remnant polarization “+Pr”. In terms of operation, FeRAM is similar to DRAM. Writing is accomplished by applying a field across the ferroelectric layer by charging the plates on either side of it, forcing the atoms inside into the “Up” or “Down” orientation, thereby storing a “1” or “0”.
In contrast, FeRAM only requires power when actually reading or writing a cell.
As a consequence, the areal bit densities of flash memory are much higher than those of FeRAM, and thus the cost per bit of flash memory is orders of magnitude lower than that of FeRAM. The density of FeRAM arrays might be increased by improvements in FeRAM foundry process technology and cell structures, such as the development of vertical capacitor structures to reduce the area of the cell footprint.
What Is FRAM Memory: Ferroelectric RAM » Electronics Notes
FRAM, ferroelectric RAM is a form of random access memory that combines speed & non-volatility.
FRAM, ferroelectric RAM, is a form of random access memory that combines the fast read and write access of dynamic RAM, DRAM whilst also providing non-volatile capability.
Ferroelectric RAM is also known as F-RAM or FeRAM, as and it is able to compete with Flash technology in many areas, although there are several advantages and disadvantages to using it.
While the name FRAM or ferroelectric RAM seems to indicate that an iron element exists within the memory this is not actually the case.
Currently ferroelectric RAM is not as widely used as many of the more established technologies including DRAM and Flash.
FRAM technology is now being embedded into chips using CMOS technology to enable MCUs to have their own FRAM memories.
FRAM is able to offer many advantages and can be used in many areas, but as in many cases, the use of FRAM memory is a balance of a number of characteristics and parameters which need to be made for any particular circuit design.
Introduction To FRAM Including Its History
FRAM is one of the alternative non-volatile random-access memory technologies that provide the same functions as flash memory.
Although the name FRAM or ferroelectric RAM seems to indicate the presence of iron in the memory, it is not.
After the introduction of metal-oxide-semiconductor dynamic random-access memory chips in the early 1970s, the development of FRAM began in the late 1980s.
In 2001, Texas Instruments cooperated with Ramtron to develop FRAM test chips with an improved 130 nm process.
As a result, the area density of flash memory is much higher than that of FRAM, so the cost per bit of flash memory is several orders of magnitude lower than that of FRAM. In 2005, Ramtron reported a large number of sales of its FeRAM products in various fields, including electricity meters, automotive, business machines, and instrumentation, medical equipment, industrial microcontrollers, and radio frequency identification tags.
Texas Instruments has integrated a certain amount of FRAM memory in its new FRAM series of MSP430 microcontrollers.
FRAM can provide many advantages and can be used in many fields, but in many cases, the use of FRAM memory is a balance between many characteristics and parameters, and these characteristics and parameters need to be designed for any specific circuit design.
Studymafia.org ABSTRACT Ferroelectric memory is a new type of semiconductor memory, which exhibit short programming time, low power consumption and nonvolatile memory, making highly suitable for application like contact less smart card, digital cameras which demands many memory write operations.
A ferroelectric memory cell has at least one ferroelectric capacitor to store the binary data, and one transistor that provide access to the capacitor or amplify its content for a read operation.
Studymafia.org FERROELECTRIC MEMORY ARCHITECTURE Ferroelectric memories have borrowed many circuit techniques from DRAM’s due to similarities of their cells and DRAM’s mature architecture.
Unlike the previous architecture, only a single memory cell can be selected by a simultaneous activation of a WL and a PL. This is the memory cell that is located at the Intersection of the WL and the PL. It is possible to select more than one memory cell in a row by activating their corresponding platelines.
Circuit Diagram of a pair of Ferroelectric Memory Cells for a Merged-line architecture Compared to a WL//PL architecture, the ML architecture enjoys a shorter read access time, as the PL capacitance is-now divided equally between two merged lines.
COMPARISON The memory cell of FRAM is configured with one transistor and one capacitor is DRAM. It can also hold data even when the power is switched off as can flash memory, which is a representative nonvolatile memory device.
Ferroelectric memories, on the other hand, are superior to EPROM’s and Flash memories in terms of write-access time and overall power consumption, and hence, target applications where a nonvolatile memory is required with such features.
Ferroelectric RAM
It is not always easy to do this reliably, so I went looking for alternatives and discovered Ferroelectric RAM. FRAM is a non-volatile memory technology that relies on the special properties of ferroelectric materials.
Unlike linear dielectric materials, ferroelectric materials can exhibit a remnant electrical polarization after an electrical field is removed.
Like DRAM, read operations are destructive and internal circuitry has to write the value back into the cell when it is read. The read/write endurance of FRAM is guaranteed at 100 trillion cycles and data retention typically greater than 100 years at 65°C. So, what’s the downside? Cost of course.
At the time of writing, a typical 16KB FRAM, such as the Cypress FM24CL16B, costs $1.68 in unit quantity, while a comparable EEPROM, the ON Semiconductor CAT24C16WI costs just $0.16.
FRAM seems to be about 10 times the cost of an equivalent EEPROM across the board.
I’m not building a high-volume product, so I will use the FRAM this time because the additional cost is worth way less than the design effort needed to be sure an EEPROM solution will work every time.
Rew has maintained a hands-on interest in electronics, particularly embedded systems, power electronics, and control theory in his free time.
What Is Ferroelectric RAM?
It differs from the common RAM used in most personal computers in that it is non-volatile, meaning that it retains the data stored in it when power is turned off to the device, not true of standard dynamic RAM. The unique properties of the material of which the FRAM is made gives it a natural ferroelectric state, which means that it has a built-in polarization that lends itself to the semi-permanent storage of data without a need for power.
The main disadvantages of FRAM are that the storage density for data is considerably less than that of other types of RAM and it is more difficult to produce, as the ferroelectric layer can be easily degraded during silicon chip manufacturing.
Since ferroelectic RAM cannot hold a great amount of data and would be expensive to make for applications that require a lot of memory, it is most often used in portable computer-based devices like smart cards tied to security systems to enter buildings and radio frequency identifier tags used on consumer products to track inventory.
The material most often used to manufacture ferroelectric RAM as of 2011 is lead zirconate titanate, though the history of the technology can be traced back to its conception in 1952 and first production near the end of the 1980s.
While the architecture is based on the same model as DRAM and both store data as binary strings of ones and zeros, only ferroelectric RAM has phase-change memory, where the data is permanently embedded until an applied electric field erases or overwrites it.
In this sense, ferroelectric RAM functions in the same way as flash memory or an EEPROM chip, except that the read-write speed is much faster and can be repeated more times before the FRAM chip begins to fail, and the power consumption level is much lower.
Since ferroelectric RAM can have read-write access rates 30,000 times faster than a standard EEPROM chip, along with the fact that it can last 100,000 times longer and have only 1/200th of the power consumption of EEPROM, it is a type of precursor to racetrack memory.
Ferroelectric Random Access Memory Technique
Volatile memory includes static random access memory and dynamic random access memory.
Ferroelectric memory is compatible with all the functions of RAM, and it is a non-volatile memory like a ROM. In other words, ferroelectric memory bridges the gap between these two types of storage, a type of non-volatile RAM. Compared with traditional non-volatile memory, it has attracted much attention due to its advantages such as low power consumption, fast read and write speed, and strong anti-irradiation capability.
Ferroelectric memory, also known as F-RAM or FeRAM, is a type of random access memory with fast read and write speed, and the ability to retain data after power is turned off is combined, which is the most commonly used type of personal computer memory.
Since it is not as dense as dynamic random access memory and static random access memory, that is, it cannot store as much data as they do in the same space.
Because there is no atomic collision in the entire physical process, the ferroelectric memory has the characteristics of high read and write speed, ultra-low power consumption, and unlimited writes, making it very suitable to act as temporary storage memory in important systems to transfer various data between subsystems, for each subsystem to read and write frequently.
This design greatly improves the efficiency of ferroelectric memory and reduces the production cost of ferroelectric memory products.
Ferroelectric memory is an emerging non-volatile memory.

Hypodermic Needle
A hypodermic needle is used for rapid delivery of liquids, or when the injected substance cannot be ingested, either because it would not be absorbed, or because it would harm the liver.
The hypodermic needle reduces contamination for two reasons: First, its surface is extremely smooth, which prevents airborne pathogens from becoming trapped between irregularities on the needle’s surface, which would subsequently be transferred into the media as contaminants; second, the needle’s surface is extremely sharp, which significantly reduces the diameter of the hole remaining after puncturing the membrane and consequently prevents microbes larger than this hole from contaminating the substrate.
Dr. Wood can be largely credited with the popularization and acceptance of injection as a medical technique, as well as the widespread use and acceptance of the hypodermic needle.
The basic technology of the hypodermic needle has stayed largely unchanged since the 19th century, but as the years progressed and medical and chemical knowledge improved, small refinements have been made to increase safety and efficacy, with needles being designed and tailored for very particular uses.
Development of the fully disposable hypodermic needle was spurred on in the 1950s for several reasons.
The end of the needle is bevelled to create a sharp pointed tip, letting the needle easily penetrate the skin.
The main system for measuring the diameter of a hypodermic needle is the Birmingham gauge; the French gauge is used mainly for catheters.
Medical Design And Outsourcing
Is a hollow needle commonly used with a syringe to inject substances into the body or extract fluids from it.
Large-bore hypodermic intervention is especially useful in treating catastrophic blood loss or shock.
A hypodermic needle also provides for rapid delivery of liquids.
Hypodermic needles also serve important roles in research requiring sterile conditions.
The hypodermic needle significantly reduces contamination during inoculation of a sterile substrate in two ways.
First, its surface is extremely smooth, preventing airborne pathogens from becoming trapped between irregularities on the needle’s surface, which could subsequently be transferred into the media as contaminants.
Second, the needle’s point is extremely sharp, significantly reducing the diameter of the hole remaining after puncturing the membrane, which consequently prevents microbes larger than the hole from contaminating the substrate.
What Is The Hypodermic Needle Theory? The Hypodermic Needle Theory In A Nutshell
The hypodermic needle theory was first proposed by communication theorist Harold Lasswell in his 1927 book Propaganda Technique in the World War.
The hypodermic needle theory is a communication model suggesting media messages are inserted into the brains of passive audiences.
In the intervening years between war, the ability for world leaders to influence their citizens using the media then became known as the hypodermic needle or “Magic bullet” theory.
Key takeaways: The hypodermic needle theory is a communication model suggesting media messages are inserted into the brains of passive audiences.
The hypodermic needle theory posits that a mass audience passively receives whatever message is being communicated by the media.
Harold Lasswell in his 1927 book Propaganda Technique in the World War explained how the hypodermic needle theory of communication suggests media messages are inserted into the brains of passive audiences.
While the hypodermic needle theory is still relevant today, it’s more relevant with centralized mass media like TV and radio, which message can be manufactured, controlled, and broadcasted to millions of people.

In Australia, the National Affordable Housing Summit Group developed their definition of affordable housing as housing that is “…reasonably adequate in standard and location for lower or middle income households and does not cost so much that a household is unlikely to be able to meet other basic needs on a sustainable basis.” Affordable housing in the United Kingdom includes “Social rented and intermediate housing, provided to specified eligible households whose needs are not met by the market.”
There has been an increase among policy makers in affordable housing as the price of housing has increased dramatically creating a crisis in affordable housing.
Affordable housing is a controversial reality of contemporary life, for gains in affordability often result from expanding land available for housing or increasing the density of housing units in a given area.
Many housing rights groups also attempt to combat social and political issues which relate to access to quality affordable housing such as housing discrimination, redlining, and lack of access to amenities in areas with affordable housing including food deserts and transit deserts.
Affordable housing needs can be addressed through public policy instruments that focus on the demand side of the market, programs that help households reach financial benchmarks that make housing affordable.

Tuberculosis Vaccination
BCG is a vaccine for TB. This vaccine is not widely used in the United States, but it is often given to infants and small children in other countries where TB is common.
BCG vaccine does not always protect people from getting TB. If you were vaccinated with BCG, you may have a positive reaction to a TB skin test.
This reaction may be due to the BCG vaccine itself or due to infection with the TB bacteria.
Your positive reaction is more likely to mean you have been infected with TB bacteriaMore.
Tuberculosis Vaccines
Tuberculosis vaccines are vaccinations intended for the prevention of tuberculosis.
Today, the only effective tuberculosis vaccine in common use is the Bacillus Calmette-Guérin vaccine, first used on humans in 1921.
New vaccines are being developed by the Tuberculosis Vaccine Initiative, including TBVI and Aeras.
Development of a new prime vaccine to replace BCG. Development of sub-unit or booster vaccines to supplement BCG Pre-infection.
Since the BCG vaccine does not offer complete protection against TB, vaccines have been designed to bolster BCG’s effectiveness.
Progression of vaccine designs relies heavily on outcomes in animal models.
Most animal testing for TB vaccines has been conducted on murine, bovine and non-primate species.
A Look At Each Vaccine: Tuberculosis Vaccine
The tuberculosis vaccine is rarely used in the United States.
It is only recommended for children living with someone who is actively infected with TB who either cannot take antibiotics to treat the infection or is infected with a strain of TB that is highly resistant to all antibiotics.
Decisions regarding this vaccine are typically made in consultation with a local TB control program.
In most other countries, the vaccine for tuberculosis, known as the BCG vaccine, is used more commonly because of the frequency of tuberculosis.
Tuberculosis Vaccines: Time To Think About The Next Generation
Efforts over the last 2 decades have led to a rich research and development pipeline of tuberculosis vaccines.
These vaccines aim at prevention of active TB, with most of them being considered for preexposure with recent additions for postexposure or multistage administration.
A few therapeutic vaccines are under clinical assessment, as well.
Preexposure vaccination with the licensed TB vaccine BCG prevents severe forms of TB in children but not in adolescents and adults.
The current vaccine pipeline does not include strategies which prevent or eliminate infection with the causative agent Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
Rather in a best-case scenario, they are quantitatively superior to BCG in preventing active TB over prolonged periods of time, ideally lifelong in the face of latent Mtb infection.
Qualitatively superior vaccines should be capable of preventing or eliminating Mtb infection, in this way eliminating the risk of TB reactivation.
History Of Vaccines
Tuberculosis is a disease caused by the tuberculosis bacteria, Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
Symptoms of active tuberculosis infection include cough lasting several weeks, coughing up sputum or blood, fever, night sweats, and pain in the chest.
People with latent tuberculosis infections do not spread tuberculosis bacteria to others around them.
People with active tuberculosis disease are treated with antibiotics and other drugs that kill or control the tuberculosis bacteria.
People with latent tuberculosis can be treated with antibiotics to ensure that they do not later become ill with active tuberculosis.
Though the route of tuberculosis infection is respiratory, and the main symptoms are usually respiratory, tuberculosis bacteria can spread to and infect other parts of the body, such as the bones and brain.
The hope is to develop a vaccine that prevents infection with tuberculosis, which would reduce the great burden of disease global and also reduce transmission of the TB bacteria.
VPM1002 Tuberculosis Vaccine
The VPM1002 vaccine is a genetically modified BCG vaccine derived from the Mycobacterium Bovis BCG subtype Prague characterized as rBCGÄureC::Hly+.
Studies on mice show that the BCG vaccine can protect against tuberculosis and viral infections of the respiratory tract.
In 2012, the company began developing the vaccine and the Serum Institute of India Pvt. Ltd. , one of the largest vaccine manufacturers worldwide.
July 27, 2021 – Scientists from the Hackensack Meridian Center for Discovery and Innovation were awarded $6.4 million from the National Institutes of Health to pursue innovative new tuberculosis vaccine concept.
March 23, 2020 – A Phase III study investigates whether the vaccine candidate VPM1002, originally developed against tuberculosis by scientists at the Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology, is also effective against infection with SARS-CoV-2.
PriMe is a multicenter, double-blind, randomized, active-controlled Phase III study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the vaccine candidate VPM1002 compared to BCG for the prevention of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection in HIV-exposed and HIV-unexposed newborn infants.
The TB vaccine included in this new clinical study offers a chance to contain the accelerating spread of multi-drug-resistant TB. Treating TB requires a multi-drug course of treatment lasting up to 6 months and longer when treating drug-resistant TB. VPM1002 Tuberculosis Vaccine Dosage.

Vision impairment may be caused by a loss of visual acuity, where the eye does not see objects as clearly as usual.
The World Health Organization defines “Low vision” as visual acuity between 20/70 and 20/400, with the best possible correction, or a visual field of 20 degrees or less.
Visual acuity alone cannot indicate how much a person’s life will be affected by vision loss.
Two people may have the same visual acuity, but one may be able to use his or her vision better to do everyday tasks.
A person’s functional vision can be evaluated by observing them in different settings to see how they use their vision.
Can the person scan a room to find someone or something? What lighting is best for the person to do different tasks? How does the person use his or her vision to move around in a room or outside?
Children with more severe vision impairment are more likely to have additional disabilities than are children with milder vision impairment.
Blindness And Vision Impairment
The International Classification of Diseases 11 classifies vision impairment into two groups, distance and near presenting vision impairment.
This 1 billion people includes those with moderate or severe distance vision impairment or blindness due to unaddressed refractive error, cataract, glaucoma, corneal opacities, diabetic retinopathy, and trachoma, as well as near vision impairment caused by unaddressed presbyopia.
With regards to near vision, rates of unaddressed near vision impairment are estimated to be greater than 80% in western, eastern and central sub-Saharan Africa, while comparative rates in high-income regions of North America, Australasia, Western Europe, and of Asia-Pacific are reported to be lower than 10%. Population growth and ageing are expected to increase the risk that more people acquire vision impairment.

Common Eye Disorders And Diseases
The leading causes of blindness and low vision in the United States are primarily age-related eye diseases such as age-related macular degeneration, cataract, diabetic retinopathy, and glaucoma.
Other common eye disorders include amblyopia and strabismus.
Macular degeneration, often called age-related macular degeneration, is an eye disorder associated with aging and results in damaging sharp and central vision.
Glaucoma is a group of diseases that can damage the eye’s optic nerve and result in vision loss and blindness.
Amblyopia is the medical term used when the vision in one of the eyes is reduced because the eye and the brain are not working together properly.
The eye itself looks normal, but it is not being used normally because the brain is favoring the other eye.
Conditions leading to amblyopia include strabismus, an imbalance in the positioning of the two eyes; more nearsighted, farsighted, or astigmatic in one eye than the other eye, and rarely other eye conditions such as cataract.
Visual Impairment: What Is Impaired Vision?
Some only use the term to describe visual acuity, the sharpness of one’s vision.
Someone with 20/20 vision could read small letters on a Snellen eye chart that would look very blurry to someone with impaired visual acuity.
The impact of vision impairment depends on how much – and in what way – someone’s vision is impaired.
Impaired vision can be confused with low vision, which is classified by the level of visual impairment.
The WHO defines a person with low vision as having a central visual field of less than 20 degrees.
In the United States, people are considered legally blind when they have 20/200 vision or worse or a visual field less than 20 degrees.
Vision impairment can come with everyday difficulties, but people with impaired vision can still live a fulfilling, independent life.

The Help Available under IDEA. If you suspect that your child has a visual impairment, you’ll be pleased to know there’s a lot of help available under IDEA-beginning with a free evaluation of your child.
Visual impairment, including blindness, is one of the disabilities specifically mentioned and defined in IDEA. If a child meets the definition of visual impairment in IDEA as well as the State’s criteria, then he or she is eligible to receive early intervention services or special education and related services under IDEA. To identify the EI program in your neighborhoodAsk your child’s pediatrician for a referral.
Developing a written plan of servicesIn both cases-in early intervention for a baby or toddler with a visual impairment and in special education for a school-aged child, parents work together with program professionals to develop a plan of services the child will receive based on his or her needs.
If you have a child with a visual impairment, you’ll probably find yourself dealing with a variety of eye care professionals who become involved to diagnose and address your child’s specific disability or eye condition.
Making adaptations to the environment where a child with a visual impairment lives, works, or plays makes evident sense, but it may be difficult for families, daycare providers, or school personnel to decide what kinds of adaptations are necessary to ensure the child’s safety while also encouraging his or her ability to do things independently.
Help your child explore new things with his or her senses and build up a concept of the “Whole.” For example, your child might need to be shown a banana, help you peel it, feel the banana without its skin, have a bite of it, and then help you mash it in her bowl to understand the qualities of bananas and that bananas can be eaten in different ways.
Demonstrate any assistive technology your child uses and provide any information teachers will need.
Cerebral Visual Impairment
Cerebral visual impairment is a disorder caused by damage to the parts of the brain that process vision.
A child with CVI has vision problems that are caused by their brain that can’t be explained by a problem with their eyes.
Normally, the eyes send electrical signals to the brain, and the brain turns those signals into the images you see.
If you have CVI, your brain has trouble processing and understanding these signals.
CVI is a leading cause of vision loss among kids in the United States.
For some children with CVI, vision gets better over time , but everybody is different.
If your child has CVI, make sure that they get early intervention and therapy, educational support, and other special services to help them develop and learn.

Coagulopathy
Coagulopathy is a condition in which the blood’s ability to coagulate is impaired.
Of note, coagulopathies are sometimes erroneously referred to as “Clotting disorders”; a clotting disorder is a predisposition to clot formation, also known as a hypercoagulable state or thrombophilia.
Coagulopathy may cause uncontrolled internal or external bleeding.
Uncontrolled bleeding may cause damage to joints, muscles, or internal organs and may be life-threatening.
People should seek immediate medical care for serious symptoms, including heavy external bleeding, blood in the urine or stool, double vision, severe head or neck pain, repeated vomiting, difficulty walking, convulsions, or seizures.
Coagulopathy may be caused by reduced levels or absence of blood-clotting proteins, known as clotting factors or coagulation factors.
One area of treatment is managing people with major bleeding in a critical setting, like an emergency department.
Coagulopathy Causes, Symptoms, Diagnosis & Coagulopathy Treatment
Dilutional coagulopathy is usually defined as loss, consumption, or dilution of coagulation factors and occurs when blood is replaced with fluids that do not contain adequate coagulation factors.
Dilutional coagulopathy is one of the most common causes of bleeding after massive transfusion in the later phase after trauma.
In contrast to congenital bleeding disorders based on single coagulation factor deficiency, dilutional coagulopathy is related to multifactorial changes that affects thrombin generation, clot firmness, and fibrinolysis.
Fresh frozen plasma transfusion in a dose of 30 ml/kg might be useful for treatment of severe hemorrhage as adjunctive to basic treatment with coagulation factors but should only be considered after exclusion of any other factor that might influence hemostasis.
Further well-controlled studies are urgently needed to determine the effect of a targeted, laboratory-based coagulation management for treatment of dilutional coagulopathy.
Revealed no significant improvement if fresh frozen plasma was used for treatment of coagulopathy bleeding.
Treatment for a bleeding disorder depends on the cause, whether it is an acquired or inherited condition, as well as on the duration and severity of signs and symptoms.
Definition, Causes And Treatment
In case of consumptive coagulopathy or disseminated intravascular coagulopathy disorder or DIS, the over activated proteins form clot within the blood vessels and clog them.
Apart from direct coagulopathy symptoms, there are other signs which may arise later when it persists for long without administration of coagulopathy treatment.
Coagulopathy can either be genetically inherited or acquired coagulopathy in due course of someone’s life.
Since anticoagulant medicines like warfarin or Coumadin are small molecular mass, heparin will specifically obstruct the procedure of clotting, their actual presence in your blood would cause coagulopathy.
Practical removal of blood thinners would automatically reverse coagulopathy.
Delivery control pills can further assist in controlling unwarranted menstrual blood flow in women suffering from coagulopathy.
Desmoperessin acetate which is also simply known as DDVAP or also Stimate can be utilized in discharging blood thickens protein, which is regularly stored in your body to deal with minor cases of coagulopathy.
Coagulopathy In COVID-19
The COVID-19 pandemic has become an urgent issue in every country.
Based on recent reports, the most severely ill patients present with coagulopathy, and disseminated intravascular coagulation-like massive intravascular clot formation is frequently seen in this cohort.
Coagulation tests may be considered useful to discriminate severe cases of COVID-19.
The clinical presentation of COVID-19-associated coagulopathy is organ dysfunction primarily, whereas hemorrhagic events are less frequent.
Changes in hemostatic biomarkers represented by increase in D-dimer and fibrin/fibrinogen degradation products indicate the essence of coagulopathy is massive fibrin formation.
The mechanisms of the coagulopathy are not fully elucidated, however.
Keywords: COVID-19; anticoagulant; coagulopathy; coronavirus; disseminated intravascular coagulation.

Glued Laminated Timber
Glued laminated timber, also called Glulam, is a type of structural timber composed of layers timber bonded together with durable, moisture-resistant adhesives.
Apache supplies a single large, strong, structural member by laminating together a number of smaller pieces of timber.
Glulam provides the strength and versatility of large wood members without relying on the old growth-dependent solid-sawn timbers.
Glulam reduces the overall amount of wood used when compared to solid sawn timbers since there are no knots or other small defects in the timber.
Glulam’s laminating process allows the timber to be used for much longer spans, heavier loads, and complex shapes than reinforced concrete or steel.
The high strength and stiffness of laminated timbers enable glulam beams and arches to span large distances without intermediate columns.
Glulam allows more design flexibility than with traditional timber construction.
Glued Laminated Timber
Laminated timber is a structural wood product made from strips of wood glued together.
The Finnish Glulam Association recommends that the strength class for glued laminated timber is GL 30c in accordance with Standard SFS-EN 14080.
Laminated timber is used for load-bearing structures, in both the horizontal and vertical directions, which are either left visible, or clad. As well as buildings, laminated timber is used in, e.g., load-bearing bridge construction.
Steel parts embedded in laminated timber are also fire protected for an equivalent period.
The properties of laminated timber are defined according to Finnish Standard SFS-EN 14080 and the manufacture of laminated timber according to SFS-EN 386.
Laminated timber fulfilling these standards can be used in GL strength class according to SFS-EN 1194.
Glued timber is a wood product which does not fulfil the laminated timber standards, but is made by gluing two or more items of sawn goods together.
Glued Laminated Timber
Glued laminated timber, also abbreviated glulam, is a type of structural engineered wood product constituted by layers of dimensional lumber bonded together with durable, moisture-resistant structural adhesives.
Glulam has much lower embodied energy than reinforced concrete and steel, although it entails more embodied energy than solid timber.
The high strength and stiffness of laminated timbers enable glulam beams and arches to span large distances without intermediate columns, allowing more design flexibility than with traditional timber construction.
The use of finger joints with glulam allowed for production of glulam beams and columns on large scale.
Pressure-treated glulam timbers or timbers manufactured from naturally durable wood species are well suited for creating bridges and waterfront structures.
Glulam timber is an important component in hurricane-proof building systems.
Category 5 hurricane-resistant log houses are built of glulam timber.
