DMC DeLorean

The DMC DeLorean is a rear-engine two-passenger sports car manufactured and marketed by John DeLorean’s DeLorean Motor Company for the American market from 1981 until 1983-ultimately the only car brought to market by the fledgling company.

The DeLorean is sometimes referred to by its internal DMC pre-production designation, DMC-12.

An estimated 6,500 DeLoreans are still on the road. When details surrounding the DeLorean were first announced in the mid-1970s, there were numerous plans and rumors that the DeLorean would have many advanced features, such as elastic reservoir moulding, a unit construction plastic chassis, a mid-engine layout, an airbag, 10-mph bumpers and ultrawide Pirelli P7 tires; none of these would materialize in the production vehicle.

Bruce McWilliams, VP of Marketing for DMC and later acting President for DMC America, after resigning his position said, “The car could never be sold in the numbers John DeLorean predicted”.

In March 1975, DMC entered into a contract with Italdesign to have Giorgetto Giugiaro design the DeLorean sports car.

There had been interest in turbocharging the DeLorean early on, but the DMC engineering staff was busy with other projects, so DMC decided to go outside to develop a turbocharged version.

Six DeLorean cars were used during the production, along with one manufactured out of fiberglass for scenes where a full-size DeLorean was needed to “Fly” on-screen.

DeLorean Motor Company Teases Reveal Date And Sleek Image Of Its Gull-Winged EV

DeLorean Motor Company, the short-lived 1980s automaker behind the DMC DeLorean sports car turned pop culture staple thanks to the Back to the Future franchise, is returning with an EV model.

The DeLorean EV concept has just recently been teased, but its official reveal has now been moved up three days alongside an enticing teaser image.

DeLorean Motor Company is an American automaker founded in 1975 by John DeLorean.

With a redesigned logo and a new slogan, “The future was never promised,” DeLorean has seemingly reemerged from the bowels of nostalgia and obscurity and will be reborn as an EV brand.

The DeLorean EV will be on display on the Concept Lawn at Pebble Beach on August 21, as originally planned.

DeLorean Motor Company also stated that it will share the official name of the EV during the reveal.

The press release refers to the DeLorean EV as both a prototype and a concept, so if a production version does eventually arrive, it is sure to change.

DMC Shares Sneak Peek At DeLorean EV, Reveal Set For August 2022

DMC has announced that it will finally lift the veil on the DeLorean EV on August 18.

A teaser animation on the official DeLorean page can confirm that the vehicle will retain gull-wing doors.

DELOREAN ANNOUNCES NEW REVEAL DATE WITH TEASER IMAGE. DeLorean Motor Company has announced a new reveal date and released its first sneak peak of their electric vehicle.

Although the new EV will still be displayed on the Concept Lawn at Pebble Beach on August 21, 2022, the long-awaited DeLorean reveal will come three days sooner.

“Excitement is rising like the doors of our iconic sports car, and we are revealing the next generation prototype 3 days earlier than planned on the most prestigious stage at Pebble beach” said Troy Beetz, CMO of DeLorean Motor Company Inc. The past, present, and future of DeLorean will unfold over the duration of Monterey Car Week through a series of activations and events showcasing the vehicle.

Along with the reveal, DeLorean will also announce the official name of the vehicle.

As DeLorean prepares to take the stage in August, they released a pixelated teaser of the first official image of the EV on Friday.

DeLorean Shows First Image Of New Electrified EVolved Ahead Of Aug 18 Debut

Update 4/4/2022: DeLorean has shifted into high teasing gear dropping the first visible – albeit cropped and likely digital – image of the upcoming EVolved electric sports car that draws inspiration from the original gullwing model that gained its fame in the Back To The Future trilogy.

The new model, referred to as the DeLorean EVolved, features gullwing doors and looks like a modern version of the iconic DMC-12 from the early ’80s. As suggested by the hashtags, the new DeLorean will be fully electric and more focused on luxury.

It will be designed by Italdesign, and built by the DeLorean Motor Company that is owned by Liverpool-born engineer Stephen Wynne with headquarters in Humble, Texas.

It comes a year after Italdesign’s own teaser for a modern-day DeLorean, although this one had the DMC moniker at the front.

Italdesign’s involvement with the project is fitting to the car’s heritage since the original DMC-12 was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro – even if the Italdesign founder is not a part of the company anymore.

Last year, Italdesign partnered with Williams Advanced Engineering for developing the EVX modular platform, which sounds ideal for a high-performance GT from a low-volume automaker like DeLorean.

Many cars are famous from their starring roles on the small or big screen, but few had the built-in star power of that time-traveling sports car, the DeLorean Motor Company DeLorean.

Former GM executive John Z. De Lorean had no idea his Northern Ireland-built two-seater would go Back to the Future, but he did specify it would use a Lotus-designed backbone chassis and a rear-mounted PRV V-6 engine.

Cloaking those mechanicals was a crisp body penned by Italian stylist Giorgetto Giugiaro that retained the flair of the DMC-12 prototype, along with that show car’s vertical-opening “Gullwing” doors.

The real talking point was the DeLorean’s rustproof stainless steel bodywork, which covered a fiberglass inner structure.

Fewer than 8,600 DMC DeLoreans were built in 1981 and 1982, but a strong OEM parts supply, continuing performance developments, and the enduring popularity of its movie appearances, mean there will always be a demand for this iconic Eighties ride.

Earlier this year, DeLorean Motor Company confirmed that the iconic DeLorean made famous by Back to the Future is making its return as an electric vehicle.

We’re now getting our second sneak peek at the stunning EV and confirmation that all will be revealed on April 18th. The “DeLorean EVolved” will be an all-electric luxury vehicle with gull-wing doors, tons of power, and a completely new take on the famous car.

In February, the initial teaser images said it was coming in 2022, and a complete prototype of the DeLorean EV would be on display at Pebble Beach on August 21st. Fans can see the car in the concept lawn section.

Today DMC announced that they’re moving things up and will officially reveal the all-new DeLorean EV on April 18th. While the press release says that’s the “Reveal date,” a post on Twitter says the car is “Coming into focus” on the 18th. Let’s clear things up a bit.

In the press release, DeLorean Motor Company said it plans to share the official name of the EV on the 18th. The original Back to the Future car is still called by its pre-production designation to this day, the DMC-12.

Either way, come April 18th, the DMC DeLorean will officially arrive as a futuristic luxury car.

‘New’ DeLorean DMC-12 Should Be Ready By Fall 2021, Exec Says

DeLorean is perhaps the most famed extinct car company on the face of this Earth, largely thanks to its starring role in Back to the Future… and probably because of the way the company came crashing down.

Almost four years ago, DeLorean Motor Company made a splash and said it planned to build “New” DMC-12 models from new and old stock.

DeLorean may soon be able to kick off production, Hagerty reports.

You see, it wasn’t because DeLorean didn’t want to build the cars, or didn’t have the means, it was simply still against the law.

There are still a few hurdles, but DeLorean is closer than ever, the company’s Vice President James Espey told Hagerty.

DeLorean’s Espey told Roadshow that “Realistically, I wouldn’t expect to see production begin until at the earliest this time next year.” He added summer or fall of 2021 is an even better timeframe for when we’ll see the “New” cars hit the road. Sorting through the public comment period for the regulations and OMB review will likely take the entire year, especially with an election on the horizon, Espey also noted.

Plans for a reborn DeLorean DMC-12 include a new engine and modern amenities, but the same iconic looks fans know and love.

DeLorean Motor Company has revealed a teaser of its first all-electric sports car ahead of its debut at Pebble Beach in August, marking the return of the iconic nameplate from the original doomed project of the 1980s for a new generation.

Infamous for the controversy surrounding John DeLoren’s downfall after he was charged for trafficking $24 million of narcotics into the United States, it led to the collapse of the British Government backed DeLorean Motor Company, despite the original DeLorean DMC-12 going on to find fame in the film franchise Back to the Future.

Today’s DeLorean has little to do with the former, with the brand reborn by Stephen Wynne who purchased the rights to the company in 1995 and has established a new headquarters in San Antonio, Texas – a far cry from the suburbs of Belfast where the original DMC was located.

The new era of DeLorean, unsurprisingly, finds its basis as an electric sports car manufacturer, where it has once again partnered with ItalDesign to create a modern electric sports car with more than a few nods to the DMC-12.

Very little in the way of technical information has been so far revealed by DeLorean, but we do know that its form will be loosely inspired by the original, with a compact two-seater coupe body defined by gullwing doors.

As portrayed by shutlines seen on the rear deck, the new DeLorean will also feature an active rear wing, which itself creates a completely different silhouette to the iconic original.

Where the new DeLorean will sit in relation to other electric sports cars is still to be confirmed, but given the nature of the brand and the previous DMC-12’s focus on accessibility it’s unlikely to be a seven figure electric hypercar in the vane of the Lotus Evija or Pininfarina Battista.

The DeLorean Is Back: Iconic Car Will Return As Electric Concept

The new-look DeLorean electric vehicle will be revealed on August 18, 2022 One of the most iconic cars in all of movie history appears to be on its way back as a new electric car concept.

The DeLorean Motor Company of Texas, which owns the rights to the name and design of the original DMC-12 sports car, has teased the reveal of a new project.

Despite being a notoroiously bad car to drive, it was made famous by the Back to the Future films in the 1980s.

Eventually, DeLorean filed for bankruptcy and the car was consigned to history.

The famous scene in Back to the Future where the Delorean is sent back in time Back in 1995, a car mechanic from Liverpool called Stephen Wynne acquired the trademark on the company name and logo.

Now, it appears the company is going to join the electric car market with what would be only the second ever vehicle to feature the DeLorean name.

‘Excitement is rising like the doors of our iconic sports car, and we are revealing the next generation prototype 3 days earlier than planned on the most prestigious stage at Pebble beach’ Troy Beetz, CMO of DeLorean Motor Company, said in a press release.

The DeLorean EV Will Be Unveiled On August 18th

After years of teasing, the DeLorean Motor Company announced on Monday that it will unveil an all-electric vehicle on August 18th, promising to share its official name at the same time.

Details on the concept car are scant, but what the automaker did share is that it worked with Italdesign, best known for its work with Volkswagen, to design the upcoming car.

Judging from the DeLorean’s website, the vehicle will feature the iconic gull-wing doors of the DMC-12.

To be clear, the company making the DeLorean EV isn’t the same one that produced the DMC-12.

The DeLorean Motor Company of Texas is known for restoring vintage DeLorean vehicles, billing itself as the largest source of parts for the defunct brand that made the original.

We’ll also note it’s been talking about electrification since 2011 when it said it was working on making an all-electric DeLorean with a 100-mile range.

DeLorean Motor Company

The DeLorean Motor Company was an American automobile manufacturer formed by automobile industry executive John DeLorean in 1975.

The DeLorean was memorably featured in the Back to the Future film trilogy as the model of car made into a time machine by eccentric scientist Doc Brown, although the company had closed down before the first film was made.

In 1995, Liverpool-born mechanic Stephen Wynne founded the current DeLorean Motor Company located in Humble, Texas, and shortly thereafter acquired the remaining parts inventory and the stylized “DMC” logo trademark of DeLorean Motor Company.

Besides some early seed capital from Hollywood stars, the DeLorean Motor Company relied on the British Government for about $120 million of its $200 million startup costs according to The Times.

In response to the income shortfall, a restructuring plan was devised where a new “DeLorean Motors Holding Company” would be formed, which in turn would have become corporate parent to DMC and each of its subsidiaries: DeLorean Motor Cars Limited, DeLorean Motor Cars of America and DeLorean Research Partnership.

In January 1982, due to United States Securities and Exchange Commission questions about the company’s viability, the company was forced to cancel the stock issue for the holding company that DeLorean had hoped would raise about $27 million.

In particular, DMC, operates under entirely new ownership and with no direct ties to the original DeLorean Motor Company.

Gas? Where we’re going, we don’t need gas.

The DeLorean Will Be Reborn As An Electric Concept Car In August 2022

The DeLorean is an iconic vehicle – stainless steel body, gull-wing doors – and maybe the most famous movie car of all time.

So you’d be remiss if you thought you were traveling back in time when you saw a headline claiming the DeLorean was about to be reborn as an electric vehicle and thought to yourself, “Didn’t I read that already?”.

Just to recap: The company that owns the branding rights and supplies parts to the several thousand vintage DeLorean sports cars that still exist announced that it will be revealing an electric concept car at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August.

The company released a teaser video in 2016 promising a reborn DeLorean – but nothing came of it.

This reimagined take on the original DMC-12 will be a concept car, which is a polite way of saying “Vaporware.” There’s no indication that the current DeLorean company has the money or manufacturing capacity to start churning out electric versions of John Z. DeLorean’s classic coupes.

The company scored a win last year when the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the green light to low-volume production of vintage replica cars, meaning there’s a better chance we get brand new replica DMC-12s before the electrified DeLorean hits the road. That said, the DeLorean Motor Company does appear to be willing to milk this sucker for everything it’s worth.

The official reveal will take place August 18th. But before you start dusting off your 80s-era puffy vests and Nike high-tops, it’s worth noting that DeLorean says it’s working with Italdesign, a prestigious design shop that’s owned by Volkswagen.

Initially, Back to the Future was scheduled to be released in May 1985, but was pushed back to June 21, the earliest Zemeckis could have the film ready.

This made it the third-highest-grossing film behind the romantic drama Out of Africa and Rocky IV. Cumulatively, Back to the Future earned a worldwide gross of $381.1 million, making it the highest-grossing film of 1985 worldwide, ahead of Rocky IV and Rambo: First Blood Part II. Written by Gale and Zemeckis, the sequel script was so long it was split into two films, Back to the Future Part II and Back to the Future Part III; both films were shot back to back.

Medical Waste

Medical waste is a subset of wastes generated at health care facilities, such as hospitals, physicians’ offices, dental practices, blood banks, and veterinary hospitals/clinics, as well as medical research facilities and laboratories.

Generally, medical waste is healthcare waste that that may be contaminated by blood, body fluids or other potentially infectious materials and is often referred to as regulated medical waste.

EPA has not had authority, specifically for medical waste, since the Medical Waste Tracking Act of 1988 expired in 1991.

Concern for the potential health hazards of medical wastes grew in the 1980s after medical wastes were washing up on several east coast beaches.

EPA’s Office of Air Quality Planning and Standards continues to review and revise the Hospital Medical Infectious Waste Incinerator standards as required most recently in May of 2013.Alternative Treatment and Disposal Technologies for Medical Waste.

The alternative treatments are generally used to render the medical waste non-infectious then the waste can be disposed of as solid waste in landfills or incinerators.

EPA has jurisdiction over medical waste treatment technologies, which claim to reduce the infectiousness of the waste by using chemicals.

Environmental Guidelines

1399-1402 Although hospital wastes had a greater number of different bacterial species compared with residential waste, wastes from residences were more heavily contaminated.

2 Health-care facility medical wastes targeted for handling and disposal precautions include microbiology laboratory waste, pathology and anatomy waste, blood specimens from clinics and laboratories, blood products, and other body-fluid specimens.

The categorization of these wastes has generated the term “Regulated medical waste.” This term emphasizes the role of regulation in defining the actual material and as an alternative to “Infectious waste,” given the lack of evidence of this type of waste’s infectivity.

Regulated medical wastes are treated or decontaminated to reduce the microbial load in or on the waste and to render the by-products safe for further handling and disposal.

Current laboratory guidelines for working with infectious microorganisms at biosafety level 3 recommend that all laboratory waste be decontaminated before disposal by an approved method, preferably within the laboratory.

Among the suggested control measures was that health-care facilities perform on-site decontamination of laboratory waste containing live cultures of microorganisms before release of the waste to a waste management company.

1412 State medical waste regulations can complicate or completely prevent this transfer if these cultures are determined to be medical waste, because most states regulate the inter-facility transfer of untreated medical wastes.

What Is Medical Waste?

At some point you’ve probably used health-related supplies that created some type of medical waste.

Waste from people with infections, like swabs, bandages, and disposable medical supplies.

Labs or sites that do COVID-19 tests, for example, treat all medical waste as biohazardous.

You make this type of waste at home when you do things like throw out a disposable mask, take a rapid COVID test, use a medical sharp, or flush unused medication.

Because hospitals often burn infectious medical waste, in the late 1990s the Environmental Protection Agency set tighter emissions standards meant to curb air pollution from it.

Some alternative treatments use microwave technology, steam sterilization, or chemical mechanical systems to render medical waste noninfectious, which makes it safe to go in a landfill.

The coronavirus pandemic has led to hospitals creating tens of thousands of metric tons of medical waste from used test kits, syringes, needles, and other objects.

What Is Medical Waste

ASK FOR A WASTE CONSULTATION. Don’t lump medical waste into a single category.

In any healthcare environment, every individual working in that facility should know how to categorize different medical waste streams for appropriate biomedical waste management.

The Environmental Protection Agency offers their definition of medical waste as any “Solid waste which is generated in the diagnosis, treatment, or immunization of human beings or animals.” That can define anything from protect personal equipment to needles, syringes, bandages, or biopsy tissues, and more.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration offers their definition of medical waste as any “Red bag or infectious waste containing blood or bodily fluids that are: pourable, dripable, squeezable, or flexible.” This definition seems to imply that medical waste is only something that contains blood or blood products or other body fluids.

Follow guidelines of the EPA in identifying regulated medical waste, or any type of infectious medical or biohazard waste.

What exactly is biomedical waste? Biomedical waste is defined as any type of medical waste that has the potential to be hazardous or infectious to humans.

Biohazard waste is to be disposed of in red regulated medical waste containers or red liners inside containers.

Health Hazards Of Medical Waste And Its Disposal

Keywords: Hospital, Medical waste, Management, Infection, Hazard, Risk, WHO.”Health care activities lead to the production of waste that may lead to adverse health effects. Most of this waste is not more dangerous than regular household waste. However, some types of health-care waste represent a higher risk to health. These include infectious waste, among which are sharps waste, body part waste, chemical or pharmaceutical waste, and radioactive and cytotoxic waste or broken thermometers.”

In seeking effective solutions for the disposal of medical wastes in developing-world health-care settings, it is necessary to design and build a sustainable system for managing medical waste.

As a minimum, managers responsible for health-care waste should conduct a walk-through of the facility to identify the medical areas that produce waste, to obtain an initial estimate of the types and quantities of waste generated, and to understand how the waste is handled and disposed of.

What about the waste and by-products they generate? Of the total amount of waste generated by health-care activities, about 85% is general, nonhazardous waste comparable to domestic waste.

A person who experiences one needle-stick injury from a needle used on an infected source patient has risks of 30%, 1.8%, and 0.3%, respectively, of becoming infected with HBV, HCV, and HIV.Additional hazards occur from scavenging at waste disposal sites and during the manual sorting of hazardous waste from health-care facilities.

Waste Management: Reasons for FailureLack of awareness about the health hazards related to health-care waste, inadequate training in proper waste management, absence of waste management and disposal systems, insufficient financial and human resources, and the low priority given to the topic are the most common problems connected with health-care waste.

Liaising with department heads, the waste-management officer, the matron, and the hospital manager, and giving advice, in accordance with the national policy and guidelines, on the appropriate procedures for pharmaceutical waste treatment and disposal; coordinating continual monitoring of procedures for the treatment and disposal of pharmaceutical waste; ensuring that personnel involved in pharmaceutical waste handling, treatment, and disposal receive adequate training; remaining up to date with the proper treatment and safe disposal of expired, damaged, and unusable pharmaceuticals, pharmaceutical packaging, and equipment.

TJ Dillashaw Opens New Clean Juice Bar In Agoura Hills

Clean Juice, the first USDA-certified organic juice bar franchise, has looked to inform customers about the benefits of eating organic since 2015 by opening its doors to the community of Agoura Hills with the help of MMA fighter TJ Dillashaw at a new location.

After helping open Clean Juice’s flagship Yorba Linda location, Dillashaw found that Clean Juice’s brand and mission was perfectly suited to the lifestyle of many Southern Californians and decided to become the area developer for the rapidly expanding juice bar.

“It’s got all the family lifestyles, and that’s what really intrigued me about Clean Juice. I have a 4-year-old son, and I want him to develop good eating habits and eat the right way at a young age, things maybe I didn’t know when I was a kid. He thinks Clean Juice is a treat. We get him a healthy acai bowl or kids smoothie. The family dynamic of Clean Juice is great, and it’ll do so well at Agoura Hills because of that.”

Through partnering with Clean Juice to help open a new location on Kanan Road, Dillashaw wants to further inspire and offer opportunities for customers of all ages to eat healthier and boost their diet.

One of the defining traits of Clean Juice is that its juices are made daily, a fact that Dillashaw insists is of utmost importance when maintaining a nourishing diet.

By bringing Clean Juice to Agoura Hills, Dillashaw and Clean Juice are looking to embrace the spirit of community and to create a family atmosphere around eating and drinking healthy organic ingredients.

Dillashaw Enters UFC On ESPN 27 With Some Convincing To Do

Cody Garbrandt has long insisted his former Team Alpha Male stablemate was cheating well before that, but that’s a claim that simply can’t be proven, especially considering Dillashaw passed nearly 40 tests from USADA before his failure.

Dillashaw didn’t blame an unmarked blue vial of sexual enhancer for the violation.

Dillashaw simply admitted his error and served his time.

Well, on Saturday, Dillashaw will return to action for the first time since January 2019, taking on top contender Cory Sandhagen in the headlining bout of UFC on ESPN 27 in Las Vegas.

With Sandhagen checking in at No. 3 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMA Junkie bantamweight rankings, a spectacular win for Dillashaw could potentially catapult him directly into a title shot – an opportunity that he welcomes with open arms.

If Dillashaw can show he’s still in vintage form, complete with crafty footwork, a relentless pace, and a scintillating variety of attack angles, then with each performance, he can put a little more space between his darkest days and the current one.

Time will tell if he delivers on that promise, and perhaps only in retrospect will we be able to properly tell the full story of Tyler Jeffrey Dillashaw.

Sanofi Pasteur was the vaccines division of the French multinational pharmaceutical company Sanofi.

Sanofi Pasteur is the largest company in the world devoted entirely to vaccines.

Sanofi Pasteur is one of four global producers of the yellow fever vaccine.

Aventis Pasteur, the vaccine division of Sanofi-Aventis Group, changed its name to Sanofi Pasteur.

Sanofi Pasteur Workers Resist Vaccine Mandate

Sanofi Pasteur is enforcing a vaccine mandate that may cost hundreds of people their jobs next month.

SWIFTWATER, Pa. – Angela Giaquinto has a choice to make.

She’s one of about 2,500 people employed at Sanofi Pasteur in Swiftwater.

The company says it does not disclose site-specific vaccination rates, so it’s unclear just how many people could be impacted by the mandate.

“I’m really, really hoping that they reconsider things, realizing that there’s a lot of good people that they’re going to lose,” Giaquinto said.

Some employees hoped with COVID-19 cases going down and restrictions easing, Sanofi would drop the mandate.

A Sanofi spokesperson tells Newswatch 16: “While the trends are encouraging, we have all experienced the up and downs of this pandemic and the rise of variants. Sanofi US continues to believe that vaccination is the right course of action.”

Sanofi/GSK COVID-19 Vaccine: What You Should Know

The combined effort between the two companies had Sanofi developing a vaccine using an adjuvant from GlaxoSmithKline.

The vaccine also showed a strong immune response in patients with prior COVID-19 infection, which suggests it may have potential as a booster vaccine, according to Sanofi and GSK. Pending results from the Phase 3 trial, the companies hope to have the vaccine considered for regulatory approval by the end of 2021.

The Sanofi/GSK vaccine candidate is a recombinant protein-based vaccine based on the baculovirus, which is commonly found in moths.

In May 2021, Sanofi and GSK announced that preliminary results from the Phase 2B trial using the amended formula showed that the vaccine achieved comparable antibody levels to people who had COVID-19 and developed antibodies naturally.

In initial, early-stage trials, Sanofi reported that the company’s recombinant vaccine achieved similar antibody levels as those found in people aged 18 to 48 who’d had COVID-19.

The companies want to test the reformulated vaccine against another authorized vaccine rather than a placebo.

Sanofi and GSK are developing the recombinant vaccine with the help of government funding.

NTT DOCOMO Selects Oracle Cloud To Boost Development Capabilities For One Of The World’S Largest Customer Information Management Systems

Japanese mobile operator taps Oracle Cloud Infrastructure to improve service quality and enable faster delivery through automation of operation management utilizing Oracle Container Engines for Kubernetes.

Has adopted Oracle Cloud Infrastructure to build its new development environment for ALADIN, one of the largest customer information management systems in the world.

DOCOMO has moved its on-premises Oracle Database for database training to Oracle Database Cloud Service on OCI. ALADIN supports DOCOMO’s more than 83 million subscriber base, handling all customer-related operations, such as membership and transactional data, credit checks, contract data, and assignment of telephone numbers.

As part of the cloud migration, DOCOMO has also moved its on-premises Oracle Database environment to Oracle Database Cloud Service on OCI. This environment is used by database administrators from dedicated devices to verify and train database recovery procedures and conduct training, including the reproduction of failure conditions in an environment similar to the commercial environment.

With the move to Oracle Database Cloud Service, DOCOMO can enjoy Oracle’s pay-as-you-go service and provide database administrators with the flexibility and scalability to meet seasonal needs.

DOCOMO aims to migrate the final operation testing environment, which is currently in an on-premises location, to the cloud, including Oracle Cloud, to further improve testing efficiency and application quality with flexible development and testing environments in the near future.

Oracle offers integrated suites of applications plus secure, autonomous infrastructure in the Oracle Cloud.

Oracle Cloud And AI Boss Don Johnson Stepped Down, Leaked Email Shows

Oracle’s cloud and AI leader Don Johnson has stepped down from the Platform & AI Services organization he formed about a year ago, leaving Oracle Cloud Infrastructure boss Clay Magouyrk solely in charge of the company’s cloud business, Insider has learned.

Johnson – the former Oracle Cloud Infrastructure boss once named by founder and CTO Larry Ellison himself as a potential contender for co-CEO – will now serve as an adviser to Ellison on new healthcare cloud initiatives, according to the email.

It’s not the first time Johnson has stepped back from a role leading OCI. In June 2020, Johnson told employees that he was stepping down from direct leadership of the cloud unit to pursue new projects within Oracle, tapping Magouyrk to replace him.

Johnson returned in December 2020 to start the new cloud and artificial-intelligence organization that he described in an email to employees as “An extension of OCI, not a division of it.” Oracle’s internal organizational chart, viewed by Insider last year, showed Johnson oversaw about one-third of OCI employees.

The move leaves Magouyrk in charge of Oracle’s cloud business, which has set its sights on overtaking the reigning Amazon Web Services as the biggest platform in the industry – an ambitious goal, given that Oracle Cloud is widely considered a distant last-place in the market behind Amazon, Microsoft, and Google.

Current and former Oracle employees told Insider last year that there’s a “Culture of fear” at the cloud unit under Magouyrk.

While Johnson’s email said that he plans to advise Ellison on healthcare initiatives, and suggests he may pitch in on Oracle projects here and there, he also writes that he intends on “Stepping away from the computer screen” as much as possible and taking less of a hands-on role.

What Is Information Management?

Information, as we know it today, includes both electronic and physical information.

The organizational structure must be capable of managing this information throughout the information lifecycle regardless of source or format for delivery through multiple channels that may include cell phones and web interfaces.

According to Wikipedia, Information management is the collection and management of information from one or more sources and the distribution of that information to one or more audiences.

Management means the organization of and control over the structure, processing, and delivery of information.

Information management environments are comprised of legacy information resident in line of business applications, Enterprise Content Management, Electronic Records Management, Business Process Management, Taxonomy and Metadata, Knowledge Management, Web Content Management, Document Management and Social Media Governance technology solutions and best practices.

Of course, not all information is open to anyone, but in principle, the sharing of information helps the use and exploitation of corporate knowledge.

Information management is a corporate responsibility that needs to be addressed and followed from the uppermost senior levels of management to the front line worker.

Information Management

Information management concerns a cycle of organizational activity: the acquisition of information from one or more sources, the custodianship and the distribution of that information to those who need it, and its ultimate disposal through archiving or deletion.

Information management embraces all the generic concepts of management, including the planning, organizing, structuring, processing, controlling, evaluation and reporting of information activities, all of which is needed in order to meet the needs of those with organisational roles or functions that depend on information.

With the proliferation of information technology and the extending reach of information systems in the 1980s and 1990s, information management took on a new form.

The scope of senior management interest in information at British Petroleum extended from the creation of value through improved business processes, based upon the effective management of information, permitting the implementation of appropriate information systems that were operated on IT infrastructure that was outsourced.

At the heart of his view of information management is a portfolio model that takes account of the surging interest in external sources of information and the need to organise un-structured information external so as to make it useful.

In 2004, the management system “Information Management Body of Knowledge” was first published on the World Wide Web and set out to show that the required management competencies to derive real benefits from an investment in information are complex and multi-layered.

Since the emergence and popularisation of the Balanced scorecard there has been huge interest in business performance management but not much serious effort has been made to relate business performance management to the benefits of information technology investments and the introduction of new information systems until the turn of the millennium.

Information Management Best Practices

In the 1970s, information management began to emerge from data management as virtual media began to overtake physical media.

As PCs started to replace mainframes as the primary computing platform in the 80s, and as networked systems came to prominence in the 90s, information management came into its own.

The definition of information management is constantly evolving as the technology, ideas, and business needs change.

Information management also includes data management and its associated activities.

IM is often confused with content management or knowledge management.

Content management deals with data a website uses, and the covers to organize and display the data.

Knowledge management is similar to library science, and deals with information for training and education, as well as knowledge and expertise transfer, and passing on lessons learned.

What Is Information Management? Definition And Benefits

In this article, we explain what information management is, how it differs from data management, its importance in the workplace and how you can create an information management system for your company.

What is information management? Information management is the collection, storage, management and maintenance of data and other types of information.

Information management vs. data management Information management begins with the creation and collection of data that is processed and analyzed into information.

Data management is a subset of information management and relates to the policies, plans and programs that protect and control data and information assets through their life cycles.

Information management and its role in the workplace Information management allows an organization to achieve various goals.

Information management provides a system for protecting proprietary information from intruders, system failures and natural disasters.

About NTT DOCOMO. NTT DOCOMO, Japan’s leading mobile operator with over 83 million subscriptions, is one of the world’s foremost contributors to 3G, 4G and 5G mobile network technologies.

Beyond core communications services, DOCOMO is challenging new frontiers in collaboration with a growing number of entities, creating exciting and convenient value-added services that change the way people live and work.

Under a medium-term plan toward 2020 and beyond, DOCOMO is pioneering a leading-edge 5G network to facilitate innovative services that will amaze and inspire customers beyond their expectations.

Japan’s telcos, it seems, are on a mission to spread the Open RAN word to the rest of the world: Just as Rakuten Symphony has packaged up Rakuten Mobile’s Open RAN technology to offer it to any other operator that wants to make use of it, so NTT DOCOMO is doing the same based on its Open RAN-based 5G rollout experience and know-how, and has opened a “Shared lab” with remote global access as part of its expanded 5G Open RAN Ecosystem efforts.

NTT DOCOMO unveiled its intentions to be a global Open RAN influencer, and the build a new line of business as a systems integrator and support partners to other operators as a result, in February last year, when it announced its 5G Open RAN Ecosystem and 13 partners – Dell Technologies, Fujitsu, Intel, Mavenir, NEC, NTT DATA, NVIDIA, Qualcomm Technologies, Red Hat, VMware, Wind River and Xilinx.

The network isn’t currently virtualized – DOCOMO is working towards that, explained Sadayuki Abeta, head of the radio access network at DOCOMO during a media briefing on Tuesday – but the network elements from its various suppliers all support O-RAN Alliance interfaces for open interconnectivity between the operator’s three suppliers of centralized and distributed unit equipment – NEC, Fujitsu and one as yet unidentified and soon-to-be-deployed “European” vendor – and a number of radio vendors, including NEC, Fujitsu, Samsung and some “Small” Japanese suppliers.

So it’s early days for the lab and for the international outreach, but DOCOMO already has one OREC customer in the form of major South Korean operator KT Corp., which is working with DOCOMO and Fujitsu to accelerate its Open RAN deployment.

Now DOCOMO has its eyes set further afield: It believes that the UK, where the government has forged an Open RAN-based relationship with its Japanese counterpart and already has NEC involved in Open RAN lab trials, could be fertile ground for its OREC offering, along with many of the smaller mobile network operators around Europe that don’t have the resources to develop their own plans and build their own test labs.

DOCOMO has clearly witnessed the impact that Rakuten Symphony has made in the mobile market and during the recent MWC22, when each day seemed to bring a new development of some sort, and it wants to remind the world that it, too, has invaluable experience to offer to the Open RAN community.

What will be interesting to see is if the number of OREC partners grows in the coming months and if more operators join KT Corp. in working with the DOCOMO ecosystem: It is, after all, still very early days in the eveolution of the Open RAN market.

What Is Drone Delivery And How Does It Work?

The next day, drone technology company Zipline launched a vaccine drone delivery service in Ghana, which can make as many as 600 drone flights to 2,000 healthcare facilities on demand.

If drone delivery is actually, finally almost here, it’s time to take a close look at what this big technological shift would actually, finally mean for the package delivery industry – and what the advantages and disadvantages of drone delivery would mean for your business.

Neighbors may also have privacy concerns as drones fly overhead. How exactly will drone delivery work? Because commercial drone delivery has only just begun, there’s a lot we don’t know about how it will play out.

If drone delivery requires the construction of new warehouses that employees have to drive to, drone delivery could have some secondary emissions impacts.

A commercial delivery drone clocks in between 75 dB and 90 dB. Constant commercial delivery drone noise would exceed FAA recommendations for safe levels of noise pollution.

The few examples of drone delivery that we have also speak to the benefits of drone delivery.

It is possible we’re dramatically overestimating or underestimating how much drone delivery will cost carriers, how quickly and widely it will be adopted, or how big its impact on the delivery market will be.

Delivery Drone

Different postal companies from Australia, Switzerland, Germany, Singapore, the United Kingdom and Ukraine have undertaken various drone trials as they test the feasibility and profitability of unmanned delivery drone services.

In 2019, the FAA began certifying drone delivery companies under conventional charter airline Part 135 rules, with some accommodations for drones.

The concept of drone delivery entered the mainstream with Amazon Prime Air – Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos’ December 2013 announcement that Amazon was planning rapid delivery of lightweight commercial products using UAVs.

In 2015, an Israeli startup Flytrex partnered with AHA, Iceland’s largest eCommerce website, and together they initiated a drone delivery route which demonstrated reducing delivery time from 30 minutes, to less than 5 minutes.

In March 2016, Flirtey conducted the first fully autonomous FAA approved drone delivery in an urban setting in the U.S. In April 2016, a joint project in Japan involving the central government, Chiba City, research institutions and companies including Rakuten was launched to trial home drone deliveries in an urban area.

Founded in 2014, Drone Delivery Canada has developed a proprietary and patented turnkey drone delivery solution.

Delivery drones need powerful motors to keep both the drone and payload aloft.

What Is Drone Delivery? How They Work, Where Used And Pros & Cons

We’ll also explain how drone delivery systems work and highlight some of the companies that are already taking advantage of this new technology!

Before we dive too deeply into this interesting topic, it is important to answer the question, “How does drone delivery work?” As the name suggests, drone delivery involves the transportation of goods to consumers via the use of unmanned drones.

Once perfected, drone delivery will be a much faster and far more efficient method of delivery, allowing some items to be dropped off within an hour of being purchased.

Drone delivery can be used to improve public perception, access remote areas quickly, save time, and deliver vital medical supplies, among many other advantageous actions.

In order to buy a drone that can perform accurate deliveries, companies will need to fork over about $500 per drone.

While rapid drone delivery services will likely cost more than traditional options, they will also get items to you a lot faster.

While drone delivery certainly has a few disadvantages, the benefits vastly outweigh the drawbacks.

Drones For Deliveries From Medicine To Post, Packages And Pizza

Will the day come, when we look above and see thousands of drones busily zipping along to deliver mail, parcels, medicine, pizza and any other small to medium sized item?

In this post we look at the some of the latest drone delivery success stories, the recent history of drone delivery along with the drones being used.

The Project Wing delivery drones have flown over 70,000 test flights, and more than 3,000 deliveries to doorsteps, driveways and backyards of our customers in Australia.

Going back to July 2015, Swiss Post tested the use of drones for mail delivery as part of a joint venture, which included Swiss WorldCargo and Matternet drone manufacturer.

From 10 December 2018, Swiss post drone delivery service are transporting laboratory samples on behalf of Swiss Post from University Hospital Zurich to the Irchel campus at the University of Zurich.

Compare the impact of an airborne, battery-powered drone delivering your order versus a large truck traveling over the road. There’s obviously an enormous gain when it comes to emissions and drones are energy efficient.

The list of the FAA’s current commercial exemptions also know as FAA 107 Waivers shows a surprisingly high number of businesses are utilizing popular mainstream drones with professional capabilities, such as DJI’s Phantom 4 Pro V2. While these drone cameras do the handiwork for the various industries, they lack the capability to carry packages and that’s where innovation comes in.

Alphabet’S Wing Kicks Off Drone Delivery Service In Dallas On April 7th

Wing, the drone delivery company operated by Google-parent Alphabet, will launch its first commercial service in the US on April 7th. The company’s quadcopters will be available to “Tens of thousands” of homes in the suburban towns of Frisco and Little Elm, both of which are part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area, the company said.

Wing’s operations team then pilots the drone remotely to the customer’s homes.

In the US, drone delivery has generally been limited to smaller towns, where land usage is less crowded and complex.

Wing has been able to rack up a series of minor successes, recently completing its 200,000th delivery while operating in three countries: the US, Finland, and Australia.

Wing has been testing its service in the Dallas suburbs since last year, and the decision to launch a commercial service is a sign of the company’s growing confidence in the technology.

“This is an important milestone for Wing and drone delivery in the US,” Wing CEO Adam Woodworth said in a blog post.

Much like sister company Waymo, Wing is focused on incremental improvements before pulling the lever on wide-scale deployment.

Post Idea #14: Acromegaly

Related Articles – Summarized

Symptoms And Causes

Acromegaly is a hormonal disorder that develops when your pituitary gland produces too much growth hormone during adulthood.

If you have signs and symptoms associated with acromegaly, contact your doctor for an exam.

Too much GH leads to too much IGF-1, which can cause acromegaly signs, symptoms and complications.

Most acromegaly cases are caused by a noncancerous tumor of the pituitary gland.

The tumor produces excessive amounts of growth hormone, causing many of the signs and symptoms of acromegaly.

Some of the symptoms of acromegaly, such as headaches and impaired vision, are due to the tumor pressing on nearby brain tissues.

Acromegaly can lead to major health problems.

Acromegaly

Some people with acromegaly may have a genetic condition that can lead tumors to develop in different parts of their bodies.

In more than 9 out of 10 cases, acromegaly is caused by a tumor in the pituitary gland, called a pituitary adenoma.

Rarely, acromegaly is caused by tumors located in the hypothalamus-a small area of the brain near the pituitary gland, pancreas, lungs, or other parts of the chest or abdomen.

If the imaging test doesn’t find a pituitary tumor, your doctor will look for nonpituitary tumors as the cause of your high GH levels.

Removing these nonpituitary tumors also lowers GH levels and improves acromegaly symptoms.

The cure rate right after surgery is about 85 percent for small tumors and 40 to 50 percent for large tumors.

A single dose may not work for very large tumors and tumors located close to nerves that affect vision.

Acromegaly

Acromegaly is rarely due to a tumor in another part of the body.

About 98% of cases of acromegaly are due to the overproduction of growth hormone by a benign tumor of the pituitary gland called an adenoma.

Many pituitary tumors arise from a genetic alteration in a single pituitary cell that leads to increased cell division and tumor formation.

In a few people, acromegaly is caused not by pituitary tumors, but by tumors of the pancreas, lungs, and adrenal glands.

In people with GHRH-producing, non-pituitary tumors, the pituitary still may be enlarged and may be mistaken for a tumor.

It is important that physicians carefully analyze all “Pituitary tumors” removed from people with acromegaly so as to not overlook the possibility that a tumor elsewhere in the body is causing the disorder.

Bromocriptine lowers GH and IGF-1 levels and reduces tumor size in fewer than half of people with acromegaly.

Johns Hopkins Medicine

When your pituitary gland makes too much growth hormone, abnormal growth occurs.

The abnormal growth starts in your hands and feet, as soft tissue begins to swell.

In children, too much growth hormone causes a condition called gigantism.

These are done to check your growth hormone level and levels of other related hormones.

The main goal of treatment is to get your growth hormone levels back to normal.

These are small growths on the lining of your colon.

Know why a new medicine or treatment is prescribed, and how it will help you.

Acromegaly: Causes, Symptoms & Diagnosis

The symptoms of acromegaly can be difficult to detect since they usually develop slowly over time.

According to the National Institutes of Health, more than 95 percent of people with acromegaly have a benign tumor affecting their pituitary.

Many people with acromegaly don’t know they have the condition because the onset of symptoms is usually slow.

Acromegaly is most often diagnosed in middle-aged adults, but the symptoms may appear at any age.

Treat any hormone deficiencies and improve the symptoms of acromegaly.

Surgery to remove the tumor causing excess GH is the first option doctors usually recommend to people with acromegaly.

Coping with the symptoms and treatments of acromegaly can be challenging.

Acromegaly: Causes, Symptoms, Diagnosis & Treatments

A benign tumor that produces too much growth hormone, called an adenoma, is the cause of acromegaly.

Acromegaly affects the body’s bones and tissues and causes them to grow in abnormal ways.

Acromegaly symptoms often start slowly and may be difficult to notice at first.

Symptoms of acromegaly often show up very slowly, over many years.

If these levels are high, your doctor might order a glucose tolerance test to confirm an acromegaly diagnosis.

Surgery: In many cases, surgery greatly improves acromegaly symptoms or corrects the condition entirely.

Outcomes for people with acromegaly depend on how severe the disease is and how effectively therapies treat the symptoms.

Acromegaly

The treatment of acromegaly is directed toward the specific symptoms that are apparent in each individual.

The goals of treatment of acromegaly are to return growth hormone levels to normal, decrease the size of a pituitary adenoma thereby relieving pressure on the surrounding tissue, maintain normal pituitary function and reverse or improve associated symptoms.

Acromegaly is usually treated by surgery, medications and/or radiation therapy.

Acromegaly is usually treated by transsphenoidal surgery; a procedure in which all or part of a pituitary tumor is removed.

The FDA approved Somatuline® Depot Injection for the long-term treatment of individuals with acromegaly who have had inadequate response to or cannot be treated with surgery and/or radiation therapy.

The FDA has approved the orphan drug Somavert® for the treatment of acromegaly in individuals who have had an inadequate response to surgery and/or radiation therapy and/or other medical therapies or for whom these therapies are not appropriate.

Because results are delayed, radiation therapy is rarely used to treat acromegaly without combining it with surgery or drug therapy.

Post Idea #15: Atomic layer deposition

Atomic Layer Deposition

ALD is a special variant of the chemical vapor deposition technique where gaseous reactants are introduced into the reaction chamber for forming the desired material via chemical surface reactions.

Most of the commercial ALD deposition systems are based on using inert carrier gas, e.g. nitrogen, at about 1 mbar.

In MEMS, the interest to ALD is driven by the unique combination of conformal films with relatively low deposition temperatures offering interesting material selection.

ALD can offer significant advantages in MEMS processing compared to traditional film deposition methods.

3.1 Atomic layer depositionALD has the potential to offer true nanoscale-thick surface depositions, which are highly conformal and pinhole free [34-37]. ALD is an ultrathin film deposition technique that is controlled by gas phase and sequential self-limiting chemical reactions of the precursors at the material surface.

ALD offers highly conformal, pinhole free, and angstrom level surface deposition.

At the present time, this is prevented by two major technological limitations: the necessity to work under high vacuum conditions strongly increases the costs related to ALD depositions on “Bulk” samples, while the intrinsic characteristics of the deposition cycle lead to deposition times that are often incompatible with large-scale production, especially for low value-added components.

Atomic Layer Deposition

ALD is considered one deposition method with great potential for producing very thin, conformal films with control of the thickness and composition of the films possible at the atomic level.

ALD has been developed in two independent discoveries under names atomic layer epitaxy and molecular layering.

In plasma-assisted ALD, the high reactivity of the plasma species allows to reduce the deposition temperature without compromising the film quality; also, a wider range of precursors can be used and thus a wider range of materials can be deposited as compared to thermal ALD. [edit].

ALD on particles 25-100 °C for polymer particles, 100-400 °C for metal/alloy particles BN, ZrO2, CNTs, polymer particles Various gases: Fluidized bed reactors are used to allow coating of individual particles Deposition of protective and insulative coatings, optical and mechanical property modification, formation of composite structures, conductive mediums Plasma or radical-enhanced ALD for single element ALD materials 20-800 °C Pure metals, metal nitrides Organometallics, MH2Cl2, tertbutylimidotris(diethylamido)tantalum, bis(ethylcyclopentadienyl)ruthenium), NH3 DRAM structures, MOSFET and semiconductor devices, capacitors Plasma-enhanced ALD of metal oxides and nitrides 20-300 °C Al2O3, SiO2, ZnOx, InOx, HfO2, SiNx, TaNx Similar to thermal ALD [edit].

Deposition of the high-κ oxides Al2O3, ZrO2, and HfO2 has been one of the most widely examined areas of ALD. The motivation for high-κ oxides comes from the problem of high tunneling current through the commonly used SiO2 gate dielectric in MOSFETs when it is downscaled to a thickness of 1.0 nm and below.

The quality of an ALD process can be monitored using several different imaging techniques to make sure that the ALD process is occurring smoothly and producing a conformal layer over a surface.

Its application between the depositions of each layer by ALD provides information on the growth rate and material characteristics of the film.

Argonne National Laboratory

Atomic layer deposition is a thin-film growth technique that offers the unique capability to coat complex, three-dimensional objects with precise, conformal layers.

ALD allows atomic-level control over the thickness and composition of the deposit.

ALD uses alternating, saturating reactions between gaseous precursor molecules and a substrate to deposit films in a layer-by-layer fashion.

By repeating this reaction sequence in an ABAB fashion, films of virtually any thickness-from atomic monolayers to micrometer dimensions-can be deposited with atomic layer precision.

This alternating reaction strategy eliminates the line-of-sight or constant-exposure requirements that limit conventional methods such as physical- or chemical-vapor deposition.

The ALD research program at Argonne National Laboratory is a joint initiative of the Energy Systems and Materials Science and Energy Systems Divisions that combines basic and applied sciences.

This program is expanding ALD into new fields and deposition platforms and developing ALD thin film technologies that address a wide variety of our nation’s energy challenges.

Atomic Layer Deposition

Atomic Layer Deposition typically involves a cycle of 4 steps that is repeated as many times as necessary to achieve the required deposited thickness.

Step 1) Dosing of the substrate with a precursor vapour of TMA, which adsorbs on and reacts with the surface.

Step 2) Purging of all residual precursor and reaction products.

Step 3) Low damage remote plasma exposure to the surface with reactive oxygen radicals which oxidize the surface and remove surface ligands, this reaction is self-limiting due to the limited number of surface ligands.

Step 4) Reaction products are purged from the chamber.

Only step 3 varies between H2O for the thermal process or O2 plasma.

As the ALD process deposits aangstrom thickness per cycle, control over the deposition process is obtained at the atomic scale.

Tech Brief: A Look At Atomic Layer Deposition

Together with its etch counterpart – atomic layer etching – ALD is enabling the use of new materials and three-dimensional designs in advanced chip manufacturing.

Plasma-enhanced CVD uses a plasma to lower the deposition temperature while maintaining good film quality and high deposition rates.

The PECVD process is “Soupy” – precursors, plasma, byproducts, and other molecular fragments and species are all floating around in the chamber, making it difficult to control film deposition to the atomic scale.

First, while deposition is not exactly a single atomic layer per cycle, film thickness is well controlled and excellent uniformity can be achieved across the wafer.

Its many advantages have led ALD to be used in several applications, and here we take a brief look at some of these.

Metal ALD is also used for the word line fill in replacement-gate schemes, which require lateral deposition that completely fills narrow, horizontal features.

Looking ahead, we expect atomic layer processing to play an increasingly important role in advancing semiconductor manufacturing as these and other applications develop.

What Is A Web Application Firewall?

A Web Application Firewall is a security device designed to protect organizations at the application level by filtering, monitoring and analyzing hypertext transfer protocol and hypertext transfer protocol secure traffic between the web application and the internet.

A WAF acts as a reverse proxy, shielding the application from malicious requests before they reach the user or web application.

Put simply, a WAF protects the organization at the application level by analyzing all HTTP/HTTPS communication, whereas the network firewall acts as a barrier that prevents unauthorized access to the network on a whole.

Blocklist Web Application Firewall: A blocklist WAF, or negative security model, protects against known attacks by denying access to traffic.

Allowlist Web Application Firewall: An allowlist WAF, or positive security model, admits only traffic that is on a pre-approved list.

Incorporating a WAF within the cybersecurity strategy is one way that organizations can address attacks aimed at web applications and application programming interfaces.

Protecting web applications and APIs is now a critical component for application security engineers, security architects, and information security professionals.

Once we’ve covered how you can use a WAF solution to protect your applications against vulnerabilities, we’ll look into how you can use this technology to protect your applications moving forward and investigate web application and API security.

Web application firewalls were created and became popular toward the latter part of the 1990s as web applications grew in popularity and became the targets of cyberattackers.

Before we talk about the critical components of an effective web application firewall, let’s consider the different types of threats against your web application.

Agile development processes, continuous integration and deployment, and environments that are constantly changing create new challenges for the traditional WAF. The next generation of web application and API protection is web app and API security.

Some additional features that you should consider when selecting a web application security solution is the ability to screen requests based on place of origin.

Global Bond Sales To Cross $10 Trillion In 2022 -S&P

LONDON – Global sovereign borrowing will reach $10.4 trillion in 2022, nearly a third above the average before the coronavirus pandemic, S&P Global Ratings said in a report.

Despite an economic recovery, borrowing will stay elevated because of high debt rollover requirements and war in Ukraine, the ratings agency said in an annual note.

While 137 countries will borrow an equivalent of $10.4 trillion in 2022, an estimated 30% lower than 2020, the overall figure is one-third higher than average borrowing between 2016 and 2019, S&P said.

Borrowing in the economies of emerging Europe, Middle East and Africa will rise $253 billion to the equivalent of $3.4 trillion by the end of the year, S&P said in an accompanying report on Thursday.

Egypt, which has recently sought IMF assistance, is set to overtake Turkey as the region’s largest issuer of sovereign debt, with $73 billion worth of bond sales, S&P analysts forecast.

Among larger countries globally, Kenya, Egypt and Japan have the biggest share of debt that needs to be rolled over this year, the analysts said, pointing to short-term debt of 26% and 30% of total debt stocks in Egypt and Kenya respectively.

Commercial debt in EMEA emerging markets is set to increase to 37% of GDP from 31% in 2016, boosted by pandemic-related costs, a rise in commercial borrowing in Oman and Saudi Arabia and “Persistently high fiscal deficits” in Egypt and Romania.

James Bond Show Coming To Amazon

The world of James Bond is hitting the streaming world a lot sooner than you’d think.

Amazon’s Prime Video has greenlit its first TV show based on the iconic British spy with “007’s Road to a Million,” a Bond-style spin on a race around the world.

The e-commerce giant closed its $8.5 billion deal for MGM last week, with the James Bond franchise believed to be a powerful driving force behind the acquisition.

Production on “007’s Road to a Million” will begin later this year, and the new show will launch on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories.

Executive producers include David Glover, CEO of 72 Films, as well as Wilson and Broccoli for EON Productions, and Barry Poznick and Mark Burnett for MGM. The show joins a slate of unscripted U.K. originals on Prime Video, including “Clarkson’s Farm” and “All or Nothing: Tottenham Hotspur.” Other U.K. originals include the dramas “The Rig,” “The Devil’s Hour,” “Jungle,” “Lovestruck High,” “Anasi Boys” and “The Power.” Prime Video’s U.K. team is overseen by Dan Grabiner.

With “007’s Road to a Million,” however, Prime Video clearly has global aspirations for the series despite production originating out of the U.K. 72 Films’ Glover told Variety: “I first had this idea over three years ago. Dan Grabiner and the U.K. Originals team took it to a whole other level. To be working with Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli and the Bond franchise is a privilege and a dream come true.”

The Bond-themed Prime Video show comes during a period of transition for the franchise, which wrapped up Daniel Craig’s acclaimed run last year with “No Time to Die.” Broccoli and Wilson must now find a new actor to handle the role and to help continue to find ways to make the womanizing spy relevant in a changed world.

Stocks Close Higher, Bond Yields Rise After Jobs Report

U.S. stocks edged higher Friday, buoyed by a solid employment report that showed the country’s jobless rate returning to prepandemic levels.

All three indexes started the day higher, edged lower in midday trading as yields on government bonds surged, then climbed again to end the day in the green.

The benchmark stocks gauge ended the week up less than 0.1%. In the bond market, the yield on the two-year Treasury note closed above that of the 10-year note for the first time since 2019.

Two-year yields, which are more sensitive to expectations of short-term interest rates, rose to 2.430%. Yields rise as bond prices fall.

Angst about the economic outlook is one reason why stocks have had a rocky start to 2022.

The rally in prices for oil, grains and metals has added to expectations that the Fed will end years of easy monetary policy that propelled stocks higher.

Global Bond

A global bond is a bond which is issued in several countries at the same time.

By offering the bond to many investors, a global issuance can reduce borrowing cost.

These bonds are usually issued by large multinational organizations and sovereign entities, both of which regularly carry out large fund-raising exercises.

By issuing global bonds, an issuing entity is able to attract funds from a vast set of investors and reduce its cost of borrowing.

Global bonds are issued in different currencies and distributed in the currency of the country where it is issued.

A global bond issued in the United States will be in US Dollars, while a global bond issued in the Netherlands will be in euros.

Bonds are loaned in terms of years; for example, a three-year US$2 billion global loan will be paid back by the country it is loaned to within three years at face value plus the interest rate.

Insys Therapeutics Agrees To Enter Into $225 Million Global Resolution Of Criminal And Civil Investigations

BOSTON – Opioid manufacturer Insys Therapeutics agreed to a global resolution to settle the government’s separate criminal and civil investigations, the Department of Justice announced today.

As part of the criminal resolution, Insys will enter into a deferred prosecution agreement with the government, Insys’s operating subsidiary will plead guilty to five counts of mail fraud, and the company will pay a $2 million fine and $28 million in forfeiture.

As part of the civil resolution, Insys agreed to pay $195 million to settle allegations that it violated the False Claims Act.

As part of the criminal resolution, Insys agreed to a detailed statement of facts outlining its criminal conduct with respect to the illegal marketing of Subsys.

According to the terms of the criminal resolution, Insys will pay a criminal fine of $2 million and forfeiture of $28 million.

Instead, OIG will provide such a release only after Insys satisfies its obligations under the CIA. “This criminal resolution today with Insys, coupled with the convictions of the 8 executives, shows this Office’s resolve to hold both corporations and individuals accountable for their crimes,” said United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts Andrew E. “For years, Insys engaged in prolonged, illegal conduct that prioritized its profits over the health of the thousands of patients who relied on it. Today, the company is being held responsible for that and for its role in fueling the opioid epidemic. This global resolution is the culmination of years of work by prosecutors and agents, and these successful prosecutions and civil enforcement efforts should be a model for confronting corporate criminal activity.”

Insys Therapeutics Founder John Kapoor To Serve 66 Months In Prison For Opioid Scheme

BOSTON – John Kapoor, the billionaire founder of the pharmaceutical company Insys Therapeutics, will spend 5-and-a-half years in prison for orchestrating a scheme of bribes and kickbacks to physicians who prescribed large amounts of a fentanyl spray to patients who didn’t need the painkiller.

Kapoor’s 66-month sentence, handed down Thursday in Boston federal court by U.S. District Judge Allison Burroughs, is the lengthiest prison term imposed on seven former Insys executives sentenced in the landmark case over the past two weeks.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Nathaniel Yeager, who sought 15 years in prison, called Kapoor – former chairman of the company’s board – the “Linchpin” of the criminal scheme and the only defendant who could not have been replaced by another conspirator.

U.S. Attorney Andrew Lelling, addressing reporters outside, said the sentences of Kapoor and other Insys executives were not just aimed at punishing the defendants but were intended to deter others from committing the same acts.

A federal jury in May convicted Kapoor and four other Insys executives on racketeering charges, marking the first-ever conviction of a drug company CEO in the federal government’s fight to combat the opioid crisis.

The founder of an Arizona pharmaceutical company was ordered to spend five and half years in prison Thursday for orchestrating a bribery and kickback scheme prosecutors said helped fuel the opioid crisis.

John Kapoor, 76, the former chairman of Insys Therapeutics, was sentenced in Boston’s federal court after a jury found him guilty of racketeering conspiracy last May. The 10-week trial revealed sensational details about the company’s marketing tactics, including testimony that a sales executive once gave a lap dance to a doctor the company was wooing.

In recent court documents, prosecutors said Kapoor personally approved bribes for doctors who abusively prescribed opioids and also approved financial incentives for sales reps to make sure doctors prescribed the highest doses of the drug.

Kapoor’s lawyers argue the bribery scheme was concocted by other executives at the company.

At least two others have since faced criminal charges, but prominent companies including Purdue Pharma, the maker of OxyContin, have only faced suits that carry no threat of prison time.

The company has since filed for bankruptcy protection, and it’s not clear whether the company will fully pay what’s owed.

The company has been approved to sell off Subsys and its other drugs for about $30 million, but it maintains its assets, all told, are worth only $175 million.

Arafura Resources has a shovel-ready rare earths deposit in the Northern Territory it says could supply over 5 per cent of the world’s insatiable demand for the all-important rare earth elements.

The company’s Nolans rare earth project is fully approved and houses a massive 29.5 million tonnes reserve at 2.9 per cent total rare earth oxides with excellent infrastructure nearby and a supply agreement with Korea already locked away.

The Nolans project sits 130 kilometres north of Alice Springs in Australia’s Northern Territory and comprises a shovel-ready neodymium and praseodymium, or “NdPr” rare earths project.

The agreement will facilitate the supply of rare earths to the Korean market – one of the key global demand centres for rare earths.

The cooperation between Arafura and KOMIR aims to kickstart a range of initiatives that will support growing demand out of Korean for access to rare earth products from the Nolans project.

Arafura does not have any intentions of being a small-time player in the rare earth production game with the company saying current internal forecasting expects the company to produce in the realm of 5-10 per cent of global demand for neodymium and praseodymium.

With offtake agreements already in place, the stars appear to be aligning for Arafura as it looks to turn the Northern Territory into a global breadbasket for heavy rare earths.

Arafura Resources

Arafura Resources Limited is an Australian mineral exploration company focusing on rare earth elements.

It is headquartered in Perth, Western Australia and was listed on the Australian Stock Exchange in 2003.

The company’s flagship project is the Nolans Rare Earths Project, located in Australia’s Northern Territory.

The company had plans to develop extensive processing plant infrastructure at False Bay near Whyalla in South Australia, but abandoned these in April 2013 in favour of processing the ore closer to the proposed mine site.

Documentation for the processing plant proposal was referred for Federal environmental approval under the EPBC Act, triggering a Controlled Action determination in 2011.

Once developed, the Nolans Rare Earth Project will also produce uranium as a secondary product.

Nichia Corporation Becomes First To License TriGain® Technology From GE Current, A Daintree Company

Nichia Corporation can now use industry leading TriGain® technology for superior color rendering and efficiency across its LED chip portfolio for use in general illumination applications.

CLEVELAND, November 19, 2020 – Today it was announced that Nichia Corporation will become the first to license TriGain® technology from GE Current, a Daintree company and deploy it into their LED chip portfolio for lighting applications globally.

Nichia has been a worldwide leader in phosphors since the 1960s, including a longstanding relationship with GE also dating back to the ’60s. Nichia’s phosphor expertise, coupled with its invention of the high brightness blue LED and white LED, has helped shape Nichia’s current status as the world’s largest and highest quality LED manufacturer.

Nichia began working with Current on general illumination PFS in 2011 and has been Current’s supplier of this groundbreaking technology since its launch in 2015.

“We are thrilled that Nichia, who has been a long-time strategic partner of ours, will be the first to license our TriGain technology,” said Melissa Wesorick, Chief Marketing Officer at Current.

“The move will bring TriGain® technology to more corners of the market and enable improved commercial lighting products.” “For several years Nichia has put an increased effort into overall quality of light. The market is now demanding more from SSL, beyond simply LPW or CRI alone. We are very excited to have the license to supply PFS LEDs to the global general illumination market. This technology will help us improve overall quality of light by delivering a high color preference without sacrificing efficiency,” said Hideki Kaneguchi, Executive General Manager of Nichia’s Lighting business.

Nichia later developed and commercialized the first high brightness blue LED in 1993 and the first white LED in 1996.

In support of EPA’s efforts to promote cost-effective high quality efficient lighting products, Philips Lumileds is pleased to enter these comments regarding elements of Draft 2 of the Lamps V1.0 specification pertaining to LED emitter-level performance.

As noted in our comments regarding Draft 1, the proposals to tighten performance requirements for initial color consistency and color maintenance are laudable but would have the unintended effect of increasing the cost of ENERGY STAR certified LED lamps.

The proposed reduction of minimum solid state lifetime requirements from 25,000 to 10,000 hours, while also well intentioned, would result in initial color consistency and color maintenance degradation running counter to EPA’s stated goals for these parameters.

For these reasons Philips Lumileds is pleased to see these requirements reverted in Draft 2 to the values presently required by the Integral LED Lamps specification.

We do note that the proposed passing test requirement for color consistency allows for no units outside of a 7-step ANSI quadrangle, whereas one unit was previously permitted.

Lamp manufacturers typically require a higher level of performance at a component level in order to achieve the target system performance.

Regarding the color angular uniformity limit of 0.004 on the CIE 1976 diagram, Philips Lumileds sees an inconsistency in proposing an increase from the present requirement while also questioning the reliability of existing infrastructure to evaluate compliance with the more stringent requirement.

Drip irrigation – also known as low-flow, micro, and trickle irrigation – is the slow, measured application of water through devices called emitters.

What types of landscapes are best suited for drip irrigation? Most of your landscape can be watered with drip irrigation except for turf areas.

What are the components of a drip irrigation system? Controller/ Timer: Controllers or timers are also called irrigation clocks.

A pressure regulator reduces the incoming water pressure which can range from 50 to 75 psi for most water supplies to levels suitable for a drip system.

In drip tape or polyethylene drip lines emitters are located inside the lines spaced at various intervals.

2 The University of Arizona Cooperative Extension Can I design my own drip irrigation system? Yes, designing your own drip system is not difficult to do, but it does require some careful planning.

Drip systems need a pressure reducer and a filter to protect drip emitters from high pressure and clogging.

Drip Irrigation: Drip Irrigation System & Techniques

Drip irrigation is the most efficient water and nutrient delivery system for growing crops.

It delivers water and nutrients directly to the plant’s roots zone, in the right amounts, at the right time, so each plant gets exactly what it needs, when it needs it, to grow optimally.

Thanks to drip irrigation, farmers can produce higher yields while saving on water as well as fertilizers, energy and even crop protection products.

Water and nutrients are delivered across the field in pipes called ‘dripperlines’ featuring smaller units known as ‘drippers’.

Each dripper emits drops containing water and fertilizers, resulting in the uniform application of water and nutrients direct to each plant’s root zone, across an entire field.

Drip Irrigation

Drip irrigation or trickle irrigation is a type of micro-irrigation system that has the potential to save water and nutrients by allowing water to drip slowly to the roots of plants, either from above the soil surface or buried below the surface.

Depending on how well designed, installed, maintained, and operated it is, a drip irrigation system can be more efficient than other types of irrigation systems, such as surface irrigation or sprinkler irrigation.

Modern drip irrigation began its development in Germany in 1860 when researchers began experimenting with subsurface irrigation using clay pipe to create combination irrigation and drainage systems.

Modern drip irrigation has arguably become the world’s most valued innovation in agriculture since the invention in the 1930s of the impact sprinkler, which offered the first practical alternative to surface irrigation.

Because of the way the water is applied in a drip system, traditional surface applications of timed-release fertilizer are sometimes ineffective, so drip systems often mix liquid fertilizer with the irrigation water.

Properly designed, installed, and managed, drip irrigation may help achieve water conservation by reducing evaporation and deep drainage when compared to other types of irrigation such as flood or overhead sprinklers since water can be more precisely applied to the plant roots.

Drip irrigation might be unsatisfactory if herbicides or top dressed fertilizers need sprinkler irrigation for activation.

Canadian Malartic Corporation

The Canadian Malartic Corporation is a mining company that operates the Malartic mine near Malartic, Quebec.

In 2014, Osisko Mining was subject to a hostile takeover bid by Goldcorp but an alternative bid by white knights Yamana Gold and Agnico Eagle Mines Limited was accepted that, in addition to offering a higher price, created the spin-off Osisko Gold Royalties and turned Osisko Mining Corporation into the subsidiary company Canadian Malartic Corporation jointly owned by Yamana Gold and Agnico Eagle.

The company acquired an interest in the Canadian Malartic property in 2004 and after promising feasibility studies the mine was constructed with commercial production achieved in May 2011.is a Canadian company engaged in the exploration and development of several mineral properties in Quebec.

The Canadian Malartic mine is located in Malartic, Quebec, a community about 550 km northwest of Montreal in the administrative region of Abitibi-Témiscamingue.

In November 2004 they acquired the Canadian Malartic property, a former mine that Lac Minerals had operated.

The Canadian Malartic mine was expected to be the biggest gold mine ever in Quebec and one of the biggest gold mines in Canada.

In April 2014, it was revealed in the media that Yamana Gold and Agnico Eagle Mines Limited could acquire Osisko’s flagship Canadian Malartic mine for around $3.5 billion.

Agnico Eagle Mines Limited

Canadian Malartic is one of the world’s largest gold mines.

Following the completion of an internal technical study in late 2020, the Partnership has approved construction directly to the east of the Canadian Malartic/Barnat pit of a new underground mining complex named the Odyssey project, which hosts three main underground mineralized zones: East Gouldie, East Malartic and Odyssey.

The Canadian Malartic property, together with the adjacent Rand Malartic and Midway properties, cover in excess of 25 km along the Cadillac-Larder Lake deformation zone.

Canadian Malartic is a large open-pit operation using large-scale excavators and trucks, on the southern edge of the Town of Malartic.

The primary exploration target at Canadian Malartic from 2019 to the present has been the East Gouldie Zone, which was discovered in late 2018 at underground depths approximately 1.5 kilometres east of the Canadian Malartic/Barnat open pit and south of the East Malartic and Odyssey underground zones.

The East Gouldie, East Malartic and Odyssey mineral resources do not form part of the Canadian Malartic mine’s mineral reserve and mineral resource estimate.

The Company is planning to spend another $3.2 million on 32,000 metres on exploration drilling to test other regional targets at Canadian Malartic, including the Rand Malartic and East Amphi properties.

Construction Of Canadian Malartic Underground Approved,

MONTREAL, Feb. 16, 2021 – Osisko Gold Royalties Ltd is pleased to announce that the Canadian Malartic Partnership, comprising Agnico Eagle Mines Limited and Yamana Gold Inc., have approved construction of the Odyssey underground project at the Canadian Malartic mine.

Osisko also holds a C$0.40/tonne processing royalty on any ore from outside its royalty boundaries processed through the Canadian Malartic mill, potentially adding further regional exploration upside.

Sandeep Singh, President and CEO of Osisko commented, “The construction decision for the Odyssey underground project by Agnico and Yamana secures the Canadian Malartic mine as Osisko’s flagship asset for decades. It is difficult to over emphasize the importance of this catalyst for Osisko as Canadian Malartic will continue to provide sustainable production until at least 2039, with significant upside beyond. We commend the Partnership for the exploration and engineering efforts that have led to this announcement.”

Osisko holds a 5% NSR royalty on East Gouldie, Odyssey South and the western half of East Malartic and a 3% NSR royalty on Odyssey North and the eastern half of East Malartic.

Osisko’s portfolio is anchored by its cornerstone asset, a 5% net smelter return royalty on the Canadian Malartic mine, which is the largest gold mine in Canada.

Post Idea #31: Carbon capture and storage

Carbon Capture & Storage HELPING MEET THE UNITED STATES’ NET-ZERO GOALS In response to the world’s climate crisis, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management is investing in carbon management technologies to help the nation achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 while also minimizing the environmental impacts of fossil fuel generation and use.

One of FECM’s key priority areas is carbon capture and storage.

CCS is a method used to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and can help achieve deep decarbonization in existing power and industrial sectors.

TOTAL U.S. ENERGY CONSUMPTION IN 2020 + COAL + PETROLEUM = NATURAL GAS 79% CCS Is the only process that can deliver deep emissions reductions in hard-to-reduce industrial sectors, such as steel, fertilizer, and cement.

Will help drive the critical energy transition needed to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

These projects will advance point-source CCS technologies that can capture at least 95 percent of CO2 emissions generated from natural gas power and industrial facilities that produce commodities, such as cement and steel.

LEARN MORE about FECM’s carbon management efforts by visiting the FECM website and signing up for official news announcements.

Carbon Capture And Storage

Carbon capture and storage is the process of capturing waste carbon dioxide from large point sources, such as fossil fuel power plants.

Transporting it to a storage site, and depositing it where it will not enter the atmosphere, normally an underground geological formation.

The aim is to prevent the release of large quantities of CO2 into the atmosphere.

Center For Science Education

The possibility of capturing carbon dioxide greenhouse gas, an approach known as carbon capture and storage, could help mitigate global warming.

The strategy is to trap carbon dioxide where it is produced at power plants that burn fossil fuels and at factories so that the greenhouse gas isn’t spewed into the air.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change estimated that catching carbon at a modern conventional power plant could reduce emissions to the atmosphere by approximately 80-90% compared to a plant that doesn’t have the technology to catch carbon.

To adapt power plants to catch carbon dioxide, absorption towers would need to replace smokestacks.

Make carbon easy to catch: Fossil fuels burned in pure oxygen instead of air produce exhaust that is mostly carbon dioxide and water vapor.

Old oil fields can’t fit that much carbon dioxide and once more oil extracted from the oil field is burned, it adds more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

A power plant set up with a way to store carbon dioxide in minerals would need 60-180% more energy than a power plant without.

What Is Carbon Capture And Storage?

In recent years, carbon capture and storage has become a major discussion point in climate change conversations.

Carbon capture and storage is the process of capturing and storing carbon dioxide.

Swiss start-up Climeworks AG, has partnered with Icelandic carbon storage firm, Carbfix, to develop the largest carbon capture and storage plant in the world.

For the past several decades, climate strategies have focused on increasing the use of non-carbon producing energy sources and improving the overall energy efficiency of CO2 producing industries and technologies, but carbon capture is becoming an increasingly important complementary strategy to account for where humans will continue to produce carbon dioxide.

Bringing in carbon capture and storage could help expedite progress toward targets as alternative technologies and new behaviors evolve.

CRITICISM. Many climate change advocates, researchers, and strategists argue that carbon capture and storage alone is not a viable solution to mitigating the climate crisis.

THE FUTURE OF SEQUESTRATION. Despite the criticism and cost, carbon capture and storage is not going away.

What Is Carbon Capture And Storage?

CCS involves the capture of carbon dioxide emissions from industrial processes, such as steel and cement production, or from the burning of fossil fuels in power generation.

This carbon is then transported from where it was produced, via ship or in a pipeline, and stored deep underground in geological formations.

The CO2 is then compressed and transported via pipelines, road transport or ships to a site for storage.

Where are carbon emissions stored in CCS? Possible storage sites for carbon emissions include saline aquifers or depleted oil and gas reservoirs.

A storage site for the proposed Zero Carbon Humber.

Endurance is approximately 1.6km below the seabed and has the potential to store very large amounts of CO2.What is Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage? What is the difference between CCUS and CCS? As well as CCS, there is a related concept, CCUS, which stands for Carbon Capture Utilisation and Storage.

The idea is that, instead of storing carbon, it could be re-used in industrial processes by converting it into, for example, plastics, concrete or biofuel.

IPCC: Politics, Not Tech Or Money, Blocking Climate Action

Even government pledges on reducing emissions, made in the run up to last year’s U.N. climate summit and have yet to be fully enacted, would overshoot the 1.5°C target, the IPCC said.

The IPCC report lays out in stark terms how central cutting fossil fuel use must be to protecting the climate.

A failure to implement policies that discourage investment in fossil fuels, and a fear of increasing energy prices in the short term, means that both governments and private investors are still funneling more money towards fossil fuels than towards renewables and other solutions to climate change.

“Governments are well aware that [renewables] are often the cheapest form of energy, but they’re stuck in the political inertia behind the fossil fuel economy,” says Tom Evans, a researcher on geopolitics, climate diplomacy, and security at European climate think tank E3G. “Trying to stop that train crash is why you see millions of people taking to the streets and protesting about climate change.”

“The IPCC’s conclusions should offer a really clear way forward that climate action is the solution to rising energy bills and reliance on Russian oil and gas,” Evans says.

“There is no silver bullet for solving climate change, but there is a smoking gun: fossil fuels,” says Nikki Reisch, director of the climate and energy program at the Center for International Environmental Law.

“You can feel the scientists’ frustration that mountains of evidence isn’t yet driving the radical action needed to meet global climate goals. They are watching the clock tick down as governments and polluters continue to avoid making the bold changes in our energy, food and industrial systems, that are our only route out of catastrophic climate change.”

Copper Tubing

Copper tubing is slowly being replaced by PEX tubing in hot and cold water applications.

There are two basic types of copper tubing, soft copper and rigid copper.

Soft copper tubing can be bent easily to travel around obstacles in the path of the tubing.

While the work hardening of the drawing process used to size the tubing makes the copper hard or rigid, it is carefully annealed to make it soft again; it is more expensive to produce than non-annealed, rigid copper tubing.

Common wall-thicknesses of copper tubing in the U.S., Canada and India are “Type K”, “Type L”, “Type M”, and “Type DWV”:. Type K has the thickest wall section of the three types of pressure rated tubing and is commonly used for deep underground burial, such as under sidewalks and streets, with a suitable corrosion protection coating or continuous polyethylene sleeve as required by the plumbing code.

In Australia, copper tubing classifications are “Type A”, “Type B”, “Type C”, and “Type D”:. Copper pipes in Australia are referenced to their DN number, which is a nominal millimeter equivalent to their actual Imperial size.

Pitting occurs because the electrical voltage ionizes the pipe’s interior copper metal, which reacts chemically with dissolved minerals in the water, creating copper salts; these copper salts are soluble in water and wash away.
