The Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, operating as CPP Investments, is a Canadian Crown corporation established by way of the 1997 Canada Pension Plan Investment Board Act to oversee and invest the funds contributed to and held by the Canada Pension Plan.

The CPP Investment Board began its investing program in 1999, establishing the CPP Reserve Fund to hold investment earnings and CPP contributions not needed to pay current pensions.

The CPP Investment Board’s mandate is laid out in its founding legislation, the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board Act.

The CPP reserve fund seeks to achieve at least the projected return needed to help sustain the CPP , a rate set at 4.0% by 2017 in the CPP actuary’s report, starting from 3.2% in 2011.

As indicated in its Financial Highlights for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2013, the CPP reserve fund averaged 4.2% return in the past 5 years, and a 7.4% return in the past 10 years, above the sum of projected Canadian inflation rates and the 4.0% target identified by the CPP Actuary report, or 6.3% in nominal basis, that is required for CPP contribution sustainability.

The CPP Investment Board hires private equity firms to help it invest in private companies, fund managers to help it invest in public equities, bond managers to assist in investing in bonds, and so forth.

The total growth of the CPP Reserve Fund is derived from the CPP contributions of working Canadians, and the return on investment of the contributions.

European Commission

The European Commission is the executive branch of the European Union.

The European Commission derives from one of the five key institutions created in the supranational European Community system, following the proposal of Robert Schuman, French Foreign Minister, on 9 May 1950.

The Barroso Commission was also the first full Commission since the enlargement in 2004 to 25 members; hence, the number of Commissioners at the end of the Prodi Commission had reached 30.

The treaty further provides that the most recent European elections should be “Taken into account” when appointing the President of the European Commission, and although they are still proposed by the European Council; the European Parliament “Elects” candidates to the office, rather than “Approves” them as under the Treaty of Nice.

Through Article 17 of the Treaty on European Union the commission has several responsibilities: to develop medium-term strategies; to draft legislation and arbitrate in the legislative process; to represent the EU in trade negotiations; to make rules and regulations, for example in competition policy; to draw up the budget of the European Union; and to scrutinise the implementation of the treaties and legislation.

The President of the Commission is first proposed by the European Council, following a Qualified Majority Vote, taking into account the latest Parliamentary elections; that candidate then faces a formal election in the European Parliament.

In September 2020, the European Commission put forward an Anti-Racism Action Plan to tackle the structural racism in the European Union, including measures to address the lack of racial diversity among the European decision makers in Brussels, as denounced by #BrusselsSoWhite.

Fact Sheets On The European Union

It is the principal executive body of the European Union and is formed by a College of members composed of one Commissioner per Member State.

Article 17 of the Treaty on European Union, Articles 234, 244 to 250, 290 and 291 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, and the Treaty Establishing a Single Council and a Single Commission of the European Communities.

The Treaty of Lisbon stipulates that the results of the European elections have to be taken into account when the European Council, after appropriate consultations and TEU as an annex to the Treaty) and acting by a qualified majority, proposes the candidate for President of the Commission to Parliament.

The President and the other members of the Commission, including the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, are subject to a vote of consent, as a body, by Parliament and are then appointed by the European Council, acting by a qualified majority.

The Commission is collectively accountable to Parliament under Article 234 TFEU. If Parliament adopts a motion of censure against the Commission, all of its members are required to resign, including the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy as far as his or her duties in the Commission are concerned.

In this area, many competences have been transferred from the Commission to the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and the European External Action Service.

The Commission is also consulted, in particular, about changes in the statutes of other institutions and bodies, such as the Statute for Members of the European Parliament, of the European Ombudsman and of the Court of Justice.

European Commission

European Commission, an institution of the European Union and its constituent entities that makes up the organization’s executive arm.

The EC is composed of members called commissioners, who are citizens of and are nominated by the respective governments of each member state.

The EC is charged with representing the EU or community interest, not the interests of the member states, and the commissioners are called to act independently in that interest.

The EC is made up of one member from each of the EU’s 27 member states.

One of the treaty’s key provisions was to reduce the number of commissioners to two-thirds of that number by 2014 so that thereafter member states would provide the EC with commissioners on a rotating basis.

The procedure is that the governments of the member states jointly select a commission president, who is then approved by Parliament.

The commission president-designate, in discussion with the member state governments, chooses the other members of the EC. The new Parliament then interviews each member and gives its opinion on the new EC as a body.

European Commission

The European Commission is the EU’s politically independent executive arm.

It is alone responsible for drawing up proposals for new European legislation, and it implements the decisions of the European Parliament and the Council of the EU.What does the Commission do?Proposes new laws.

Political leadership is provided by a team of 27 Commissioners – led by the Commission President, who decides who is responsible for which policy area.

The College of Commissioners is composed of the President of the Commission, eight Vice-Presidents, including three Executive Vice-Presidents, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and 18 Commissioners, each responsible for a portfolio.

The day-to-day running of Commission business is performed by its staff, organised into departments known as Directorates-General, each responsible for a specific policy area.

The current Commission’s term of office runs until 31 October 2024.How does the Commission work?Strategic planning.

The President defines the policy direction for the Commission, which enables the Commissioners together to decide strategic objectives, and produce the annual work programme.

It’s an excellent service, Adam was so good and polite, my water softener running very smoothly so I can’t ask for more.

The engineer undertakes a thorough service of the water softener, checks level of softness in the taps and checks water flow is within expected range.

Installed water softener at my property 1.5 years ago.

We have recently had a water softener installed by Aquasoft.

We are over the moon with the quality of the product, our water is so much better than before! The service we had from Tristan and Adam was great as well.

Happy with the results and the water tastes different from the filtered water tap.

Very pleased with the company and the service they give in looking after our water softener!

Original Equipment Manufacturer Definition

If a person wants to do their own car repairs, they can often buy OEM parts directly from the manufacturer or a retailer who stocks those parts.

One of the most basic examples of an OEM is the relationship between an auto manufacturer and a maker of auto parts.

Parts such as exhaust systems or brake cylinders are manufactured by a wide variety of OEMs. The OEM parts are then sold to an auto manufacturer, which then assembles them into a car.

There is a second, newer definition of OEM, typically used in the computer industry.

In the traditional sense of the term, Microsoft is the OEM and Dell the VAR. However, the computer’s product guide for consumers is most likely to refer to Dell as the OEM. An OEM is the opposite of the aftermarket.

An OEM refers to something made specifically for the original product, while the aftermarket refers to equipment made by another company that a consumer may use as a replacement.

They may buy the OEM part, which is a duplicate of their original ABC thermostat that was used in the original manufacturing of the vehicle.

Original Equipment Manufacturer

An Original Equipment Manufacturer or OEM is a company that manufactures and sells products or parts of a product that their buyer, another company, sells to its own customers while putting the products under its own Brand Equity.

Such as its processor or memory module, may be the products of an OEM.Original Equipment Manufacturer vs. Value-Added Reseller.

The two share a mutually beneficial relationship, as VARs help OEMs sell their products and OEMs entrust their products to VARs, allowing them to sell them with more features that will enhance the operation of the products.

While an Original Equipment Manufacturer produces original equipment, an aftermarket manufacturer, on the other hand, makes products that are made to look like and work interchangeably with those of the OEM. In simpler terms, the parts are not original products because they’ve been manufactured by companies, locally-based or foreign-based, without approval from the OEMs to produce such products.

The products are not guaranteed to function as well as the OEM product.

Hardware can be easily bought off the internet, whether from a retail product manufacturer or through an OEM. However, OEM hardware is usually shipped incomplete of parts such as cables and adapters that are necessary for the installation and operation of the hardware.

Why not? After all, an OEM product is the same product manufactured by the original manufacturer.

What Is An Original Equipment Manufacturer?

A company which, with its own facilities, performs the primary activities in transforming inorganic or organic substances, including the assembly of parts and components, into the end item being acquired.

For commodities, an OEM is normally a company that builds a commodity product or component and incorporates it into a new product with its own brand name and derives at least 40% of its revenue from products that are manufactured by the OEM;.

For managed services, an OEM is normally a company that derives at least 40% of its revenue from Data Processing, hosting, and related services;.

For telecommunications, and OEM is normally a company that derives at least 40% of its revenue from wired telecommunications carriers.

An OEM may make complete devices or just certain components, either of which can then be configured by the reseller.

OEMS TODAY. Today, component parts and processed items are becoming branded, and as such their names are becoming well-known by consumers.

In the past, these components were processed from raw materials and became part of a finished product without the consumer ever becoming aware of who made the component.

SETTING STANDARDS. Manufacturers must determine the quality and specify standards for components that go into their products.

Some assembled products are not manufactured but put together from a variety of purchased component parts, like Dell computers.

Because components become part of an organization’s own product, quality is extremely important.

Since component parts go into finished products, a replacement market often develops on its own.

Original Equipment Manufacturer

An original equipment manufacturer is generally perceived as a company that produces parts and equipment that may be marketed by another manufacturer.

When referring to auto parts, OEM refers to the manufacturer of the original equipment, that is, the parts assembled and installed during the construction of a new vehicle.

In contrast, aftermarket parts are those made by companies other than the OEM, which might be installed as replacements after the car comes out of the factory.

If Ford used Autolite spark plugs, Exide batteries, Bosch fuel injectors, and Ford’s own engine blocks and heads when building a car, then car restorers and collectors consider those to be the OEM parts.

Any given brand of part can be OEM on some vehicle models and aftermarket on others.

They are primarily for PC manufacturer OEMs and system builders, and as such are typically sold in volume licensing deals to a variety of manufacturers.

System builders also have a different requirement regarding installation media from Direct OEMs. While a clean retail media of Windows can be installed and activated on these devices with OEM keys, actual OEM recovery media that was created by the PC manufacturer typically only works on the PC model line that was designed for it.

Jennerex Biotherapeutics, Inc. was an American private biopharmaceutical company that developed the oncolytic viruses JX-594 and JX-929 among others.

The immunostimulatory cytokine GM-CSF is produced from the JX-594 genome following infection, inducing immune response against both the virus and the tumor and enabling lasting tumor immunity.

Finally, JX-594 reduces nutrient supply to tumors through blood vessel destruction.

Elimination of TK from the JX-594 genome restricts viral replication to tumor cells, whereas GM-CSF production facilitates tumor immune response against, and β-gal is included for virus tracking purposes.

Upon comparison of intravenous delivery of JX-594 to intratumoral injection in immunocompetent liver cancer model in rabbits over 7 weeks, it was found that the i.t. treatment reduced the average primary tumor volume from 425 cm3 in control animals to 20 cm3 in i.t.-treated animals, and to 35 cm3 in the i.v. treatment group.

Dense infiltration of with CD4+ and CD8+T lymphocytes into the tumor was observed following intratumoral injection of JX-594.

Jennerex, Inc. Presents Positive Phase 2 Trial Of JX-594

PRNewswire/ – Jennerex, Inc., a private, clinical-stage biotherapeutics company focused on the development and commercialization of first-in-class targeted oncolytic immunotherapies, presented Phase 2 clinical data of JX-594 delivered first intravenously and subsequently through intra-tumoral route demonstrating safety as well as disease control and tumor responses in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma.

“Our ability to deliver JX-594 intravenously to liver cancer tumors, further confirmed by these encouraging data, is a key attribute that sets it apart from other therapies in the class of oncolytic immunotherapies,” stated David H. Kirn., M.D., founder, chief medical officer and president of R&D of Jennerex.

“In the Phase 2 trial presented at ILCA, JX-594 demonstrated its ability to selectively target and destroy tumors following intravenous infusion. This finding confirms the ability of JX-594 to target both primary and metastatic, or distant, tumors which we believe is important in this HCC patient population and most cancers.”

“We have treated more than 160 patients with JX-594 to date and are actively enrolling a multinational Phase 2b study in second line treatment of liver cancer patients, a Phase 2 all-IV trial in first line HCC patients, and a Phase 2 study in colorectal cancer. The data presented today build on the growing body of promising clinical data showing that JX-594 has a direct anti-tumor effect and can stimulate an immune response killing cancer cells,” stated Laurent Fischer.

Phase 1 and Phase 2 clinical trials in multiple cancer types to date have shown that JX-594, delivered either directly into tumors or intravenously, induces tumor shrinkage and/or necrosis and is well-tolerated.

Transgene, a member of the Institut Merieux Group, is a publicly traded French biopharmaceutical company dedicated to the development of therapeutic vaccines and immunotherapeutic products in oncology and infectious diseases, and has five compounds in clinical development: TG4010 and JX-594 having completed initial phase II trials, TG4001 in phase IIb trial, TG4040 in phase II trial and TG4023 in phase I trial.

The Company’s lead product JX-594 is currently in an international, randomized Phase 2b clinical trial in patients with advanced primary liver cancer who have failed sorafenib therapy.

De Havilland

Unmatched versatility and value The Dash 8-400 is the most productive turboprop on the market.

Known as the “Network builder” due to its short take-off and landing capabilities and efficient regional operations, it comes equipped with more seats, more legroom, more cargo and offers more flights per day.

This aircraft offers the best of both worlds: fly slower to minimize fuel burn or faster to maximize productivity.

It offers the same trip cost as competing 76-seat turboprops but can be configured to fit a maximum of 90 seats.

When compared to a larger jet aircraft, the trip cost is substantially lower at half the cost.

With more seats, more trips per day and longer maintenance intervals, the Dash 8-400 adds over $8 million more value per aircraft.

De Havilland Canada Dash 8

The De Havilland Canada DHC-8, commonly known as the Dash 8, is a series of turboprop-powered regional airliners, introduced by de Havilland Canada in 1984.

In the 1970s, de Havilland Canada had invested heavily in its Dash 7 project, concentrating on STOL and short-field performance, the company’s traditional area of expertise.

On November 8, 2018, Viking Air parent Longview Aviation Capital Corporation acquired the entire Dash 8 program and the de Havilland brand from Bombardier, in a deal that would close by the second half of 2019.

Viking had already acquired the discontinued de Havilland Canada aircraft model type certificates in 2006.

In January 2019, Longview announced that it would establish a new company in Ontario, reviving the de Havilland Aircraft Company of Canada name, to continue production of the Q400 and support the Dash 8 range.

On June 3, 2019, the sale was closed with the newly formed De Havilland Canada taking control of the Dash 8 program, including the previous -100, -200, and -300 series.

In a press release on October 28, 2007, the company’s president said: “Confidence in the Q400 has diminished considerably and our customers are becoming increasingly doubtful about flying in this type of aircraft. Accordingly, with the Board of Directors’ approval, I have decided to immediately remove Dash 8 Q400 aircraft from service.” The preliminary Danish investigation determined the latest Q400 incident was unrelated to the airline’s earlier corrosion problems, in this particular case caused by a misplaced O-ring found blocking the orifice in the restrictor valve.

De Havilland Canada DHC-8 Dash 8

The De Havilland Aircraft Company of Canada DHC-8 or ‘Dash 8’ is a twin turboprop regional transport passenger aircraft which places its design concept on high performance and low operating costs.

The Dash 8-300 flew in May 1987 and then the stretched Dash 8-400 flew in January 1988.

In 1986, the Canadian Government privatised De Havilland Aircraft Company of Canada, selling the aircraft production facilities and product range to Boeing.

Boeing were themselves in direct competition with the fast-emerging European aircraft manufacturing company Airbus and it simply used the De Havilland Canada name to strengthen its relationships with shared product customers.

When Air Canada announced their intention to purchase Airbus aircraft and amidst various accusations, Boeing reacted by placing De Havilland Canada for sale.

Bombardier Aerospace of Montreal eventually acquired De Havilland Canada in 1992, incorporating the aircraft into their portfolio of feeder airliners.

Eventually, all De Havilland Canada Type Certificates were purchased by Viking Air who successfully put the aircraft back into production.

DE HAVILLAND CANADA Dash 8 Q100

Initial basic model of Dash 8 regional turboprop airliner family.

Followed by the series 100A in 1990 with extra headroom and 100B with more powerful engines.

From 1996 all Dash 8s delivered with a computer controlled noise and vibration suppression system.

Bombardier Aerospace Q400 Dash 8, Canada

Bombardier Aerospace’s Dash 8 family of turboprop regional airliners includes the 37-passenger Q100 and Q200, the 50 to 60-passenger Q300 and the 70 to 80-passenger stretched Q400. The newest member of the Dash 8 family, the Q400, had its first flight in 1998 and entered commercial service in February 2000.

The Q400 Dash 8 airliner was developed by Bombardier to meet the requirements of regional airlines for larger aircraft on high-density, short-haul routes.

De Havilland Aircraft of Canada took over the Q Series aircraft programme from Bombardier in June 2019.

In November 2019, Palma signed a letter of intent with De Havilland Canada to purchase 20 Dash 8-400 aircraft.

TAAG Angola Airlines placed order for six Q400 aircraft in June 2019 and took delivery of the first aircraft in June 2020.

Recent orders for the Q400 NextGen include 20 aircraft from Eurolot in March 2012, five aircraft for Ethiopian Airlines, two for Horizon Air in February 2012, two dual-class Q400 NextGen for RwandAir in February 2014, and ten aircraft for Air Kazakhstan in July 2014.

The aircraft has provision for a flight management system, a global positioning system and a traffic alert and collision avoidance system, TCAS II. Dash 8 Q400 cabin.

Industry-First Extended Service Program PLUS Doubles The Service Life Of The Robust De Havilland Canada Dash 8-100 Aircraft

“Our Extended Service Program, which takes the Dash 8-100 aircraft from 80,000 to 120,000 flight cycles, allows owners and operators alike to derive additional economic benefits from their aircraft, and now our Extended Service Program PLUS, which takes the aircraft to 160,000 flight cycles, provides even more value,” said Robert Mobilio.

“Combined, our two Extended Service Programs add another 30 to 40+ years to the operational life of Dash 8-100 aircraft – that’s double the original service life of the aircraft. This is undeniably an industry first that reinforces De Havilland Canada’s long heritage of building aircraft that stand the test of time and provide exceptional value to owners, operators and the communities that rely on the connectivity they provide.”

An Extended Service Program is also available for the De Havilland Canada Dash 8-300 aircraft.

The original De Havilland Canada Dash 8-100/200/300 aircraft, delivered from 1984 through the mid 1990’s, established themselves as rugged and reliable turboprop aircraft.

The original Dash 8 aircraft has grown into a family of 37- to 90-seat Dash 8 aircraft that offers models – including the technologically advanced Dash 8-400 turboprop – to profitably fit any regional airline mission.

With more than 1,300 aircraft delivered, Dash 8 turboprops continue to provide exceptional operating costs coupled with the benefits of commonality within the Dash 8 family of aircraft.

With more than 5,000 aircraft delivered, De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited is well established across the globe and our talented team of aviation professionals is dedicated to advancing our near-100-year reputation for excellence in innovation, production and customer support.

English Language

Although the great influence of these languages on the vocabulary and grammar of Modern English is widely acknowledged, most specialists in language contact do not consider English to be a true mixed language.

The “Inner circle” countries with many native speakers of English share an international standard of written English and jointly influence speech norms for English around the world.

The view of the English language among many Indians has gone from associating it with colonialism to associating it with economic progress, and English continues to be an official language of India.

English is also widely used in media and literature, and the number of English language books published annually in India is the third largest in the world after the US and UK. However, English is rarely spoken as a first language, numbering only around a couple hundred-thousand people, and less than 5% of the population speak fluent English in India.

In a 2012 official Eurobarometer poll, 38 percent of the EU respondents outside the countries where English is an official language said they could speak English well enough to have a conversation in that language.

The influence of English comes from such factors as opinion leaders in other countries knowing the English language, the role of English as a world lingua franca, and the large number of books and films that are translated from English into other languages.

The major native dialects of English are often divided by linguists into the two extremely general categories of British English and North American English.

Origin, History, Development, Characteristics, & Facts

English language, West Germanic language of the Indo-European language family that is closely related to the Frisian, German, and Dutch languages.

English belongs to the Indo-European family of languages and is therefore related to most other languages spoken in Europe and western Asia from Iceland to India.

Though closely related to English, German remains far more conservative than English in its retention of a fairly elaborate system of inflections.

Modern English is analytic, whereas Proto-Indo-European, the ancestral tongue of most of the modern European languages, was synthetic, or inflected.

English is the only European language to employ uninflected adjectives; e.g., the tall man, the tall woman, compared to Spanish el hombre alto and la mujer alta.

As for verbs, if the Modern English word ride is compared with the corresponding words in Old English and Modern German, it will be found that English now has only 5 forms, whereas Old English ridan had 13, and Modern German reiten has 16.

Although a Germanic language in its sounds and grammar, the bulk of English vocabulary is in fact Romance or Classical in origin.

What Is English?

English is a language-originally the language of the people of England.

Today, English is the main language of the United Kingdom, Ireland, the United States of America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and more than fifty other countries.

English is probably the third language in terms of number of native speakers; and probably the most widely spoken language on the planet taking into account native and non-native speakers.

Consequently English is sometimes described as a “World language” or a “Global lingua franca”.

Lingua franca: a language that is used as a common language between people who speak different languages.

Borrow: take a word from another language and use it as your own language.

A Brief History Of The English Language

It must be noted that the English language we know and study through various English language courses today had yet to be created as the inhabitants of Britain spoke various dialect of the Celtic language.

Albert Baugh, a notable English professor at the University of Pennsylvania notes amongst his published works that around 85% of Old English is no longer in use; however, surviving elements form the basis of the Modern English language today.

Late Old English – can be considered the final phase of the Old English language which was brought about by the Norman invasion of England.

It was William Caxton’s innovation of an early printing press that allowed Early Modern English to become mainstream, something we as English learners should be grateful for! The Printing Press was key in standardizing the English language through distribution of the English Bible.

Jamestown, Virginia, also saw the dawn of American English with English colonizers adopting indigenous words, and adding them to the English language.

The idea may have backfired as the English language walked away with a large number of foreign words that have now become part and parcel of the English language e.g. shampoo, candy, cot and many others originated in India!

If one endevours to study various English language courses taught today, we would find almost no immediate similarities between Modern English and Old English.

What Are The Origins Of The English Language?

The history of English is conventionally, if perhaps too neatly, divided into three periods usually called Old English, Middle English, and Modern English.

The following brief sample of Old English prose illustrates several of the significant ways in which change has so transformed English that we must look carefully to find points of resemblance between the language of the tenth century and our own.

It is fiction in the guise of travel literature, and, though it purports to be from the pen of an English knight, it was originally written in French and later translated into Latin and English.

The early part of this period saw the completion of a revolution in the phonology of English that had begun in late Middle English and that effectively redistributed the occurrence of the vowel phonemes to something approximating their present pattern.

Later, as English came into contact with other cultures around the world and distinctive dialects of English developed in the many areas which Britain had colonized, numerous other languages made small but interesting contributions to our word-stock.

Because ancient and modern languages like Old Norse and Gothic or Icelandic and Norwegian have points in common with Old English and Old High German or Dutch and English that they do not share with French or Russian, it is clear that there was an earlier unrecorded language that can be called simply Germanic and that must be reconstructed in the same way.

Still earlier, Germanic was just a dialect of a language conventionally designated Indo-European, and thus English is just one relatively young member of an ancient family of languages whose descendants cover a fair portion of the globe.

What are Mineral Resources? A mineral is a naturally occurring substance, representable by a chemical formula, that is usually solid and inorganic, and has a crystal structure.

Table of Contents Mineral resources are the key material basis for socio-economic development.

Statistical results show that more than 95% of energy used by mankind, 80% industrial raw materials and 70% raw materials for agricultural production are from mineral resources.

Mineral resources can be divided into two major categories.

The total volume of consumable mineral resources is just 1% of all the minerals present in the earth’s crust.

The consumption rate is so high that these mineral resources which are non-renewable will get exhausted very soon.

Mineral resources convert to mineral reserves on consideration of ‘Modifying Factors’.

In few specific cases, measured mineral resources convert to probable mineral reserves because of the improbabilities associated with modifying factors without any decrease in the geological knowledge and confidence.

Is the mineral deposit consisting of useful concentration that may or may not exceed economic cost for obtaining the valuable minerals.

The mineral resource becomes mineral or ore reserve.

Reserve is the composite of useful concentration of minerals that may or may not exceed the input cost for obtaining the target valuable minerals.

The mineral/ore deposits are formed in the Earth’s crust by different geological processes over time, and accumulates minerals in such quantities and qualities that it is technologically possible to mine and economically profitable to designate it as “Ore” and “Orebody.” In such condition the mineral resource becomes mineral or ore reserve.

The mineral reserves/resources have been discussed in detail in Chapter 10., Mineral Resource Assessment and Economic Parameters.

Mineral Resources: Definition, Types, Use And Exploitation

Mineral resources are non-renewable and include metals, and non-metals.

Management of mineral resources has to be closely integrated with the overall strategy of development; and exploitation of minerals is to be guided by long-term national goals and perspectives.

Human wealth basically comes from agriculture, manufacturing, and mineral resources.

Our complex modern society is built around the exploitation and use of mineral resources.

Since the future of humanity depends on mineral resources, we must understand that these resources have limits; our known supply of minerals will be used up early in the third millennium of our calendar.

Furthermore, modern agriculture and the ability to feed an overpopulated world is dependent on mineral resources to construct the machines that till the soil, enrich it with mineral fertilizers, and to transport the products.

The consumption of natural resources proceeded at a phenomenal rate during the past hundred years and population and production increases cannot continue without increasing pollution and depletion of mineral resources.

MinRes Accelerates Lithium Expansion

Mineral Resources has announced plans to increase production from its Wodgina and Mt Marion mines in response to “Unprecedented global customer demand” for lithium products.

Today’s announcement comes after other producers, notably Pilbara Minerals and Talison Lithium, announced their own expansion plans in WA. It also comes five months after MinRes said it would restart production at Wodgina, which was mothballed in 2019 following a market downturn.

MinRes said today it was well-progressed with its preparations to resume operations at Train 1, with first spodumene concentrate brought forward to May 2022.

MinRes and Albemarle have also agreed to review the market towards the end of this calendar year to assess timing for the start-up of Train 3 and the possible construction of Train 4.

MinRes added that it was still seeking to finalise binding agreements with Albemarle regarding a restructure of their joint venture, which encompasses Wodgina and the Kemerton Lithium Plant.

MinRes said first lithium hydroxide from train 1 at Kemerton was expected by May 2022.

Separately, MinRes said it has agreed with its 50:50 partner Jiangxi Ganfeng Lithium Co to upgrade the processing facilities at their Mt Marion mine.

Biggest Hard Rock Deposit In The World

The open-pit Wodgina lithium project in the Pilbara region of Western Australia is the biggest hard rock deposit in the world.

MRL is currently expanding the Wodgina project to increase spodumene production and develop an integrated lithium hydroxide operation at the resource site.

MRL entered an agreement with Albemarle Corporation in November 2018 for creating a joint venture with equal share to own and operate the Wodgina lithium mine.

Albemarle has agreed to invest $1.15bn for 50% interest in the JV, which will combine the lithium production and marketing expertise of Albemarle with mining capabilities of MRL. The expansion project will include the installation of a new spodumene concentrate plant and a lithium hydroxide plant, while upgrading the crushing plant.

The first stage is expected to produce 50,000tpa of battery-grade lithium hydroxide, while the remaining spodumene concentrate will be processed and converted into battery-grade lithium hydroxide in the second stage.

As of October 2018, the Cassiterite pit of Wodgina lithium mine was estimated to hold 151.9Mt of probable ore reserves grading 1.17% lithium.

Hatch conducted the pre-feasibility study of the hydroxide plant at Wodgina, in addition to feasibility study of the proposed downstream plant to produce lithium hydroxide or lithium carbonate.

Major Mines & Projects

The Wodgina pegmatite district contains a number of prospective pegmatite groups, including the Wodgina Deposit.

The Wodgina lithium mineralisation is hosted within a number of sub-parallel, sub-horizontal, northeast trending pegmatite intrusive bodies which base of the massive pegmatite apparently with a dip at between 5° to 30° to the west-southwest.

The massive basal pegmatite varies from 120m to 200m thick.

The lithium in the Cassiterite Pit and shallower pegmatites occurs as 10 – 30 cm long grey-white spodumene crystals within medium grained pegmatites comprising primarily of quartz, feldspar, spodumene and muscovite.

Typically the spodumene crystals are oriented orthogonal to the pegmatite contacts.

Some zoning of the pegmatites parallel to the contacts is observed, with higher concentrations of spodumene occurring close to the upper contact.

In the massive basal pegmatite, the spodumene is distributed within fine-grained quartz, feldspar, spodumene and muscovite matrix.

Albemarle, Mineral Resources To Speed Up Wodgina Restart

Mineral Resources and Albemarle, the world’s no.1 lithium producer, also agreed to accelerate a restart of Train 2, from which first production is expected in July.

Each train has a nameplate capacity of 250,000 tonnes, Mineral Resources said in the statement.

The companies, which have been working together in the Wodgina mine and the Kemerton lithium hydroxide conversion trains in the Pilbara region of Western Australia since 2019, also will assess timing to start on Train 3 and a possible construction of Train 4.

Operations at the Wodgina mine were halted in late 2019 because of then-weak markets, but the companies have been working to resume production at the site in recent months.

Albemarle is also a joint venture partner to China’s Tianqi Lithium to develop the Greenbushes mine and processing plant in Western Australia.

Mineral Resources also announced that is upgrading the processing facilities at its Mt Marion hard rock lithium mine, a 50-50 joint venture with China’s Jiangxi Ganfeng Lithium.

Located 40km south-west of Kalgoorlie, in the Goldfields region of Western Australia, Mount Marion contains the world’s second biggest high-grade lithium concentrate reserves.

Mineral Resources Responds To Global Lithium Demand

Mineral Resources will increase production from its Wodgina and Mt Marion spodumene mines in Western Australia in response to unprecedented global customer demand for lithium products.

MRL managing director Chris Ellison said that the growing demand for lithium has been driven by the strength of the electric vehicle market.

“This demand has resulted in a substantial increase in lithium prices, with pricing expected to remain strong for the rest of this decade,” he said.

Alongside Albemarle, MRL decided to accelerate the resumption of production from Train 2 at Wodgina, with the first spodumene concentrate expected in July 2022.

MRL and Albemarle agreed to review the state of global lithium market toward the end of this calendar year, to reassess the timing for the start-up of Train 3 and the possible construction of Train 4.

MRL and its 50/50 joint venture partner Jiangxi Ganfeng Lithium agreed to upgrade the Mt Marion procession facilities, given the positive metallurgical test work results and the completion of project studies at the mine.

“With a world-class portfolio of highest-quality, long-life lithium assets in a Tier 1 mining jurisdiction, we are well-positioned to capitalise on the continued growth of the global electric vehicle market.”

Monsters Of Rock: MinRes Wants To Expand Lithium Production As Spodumene Edges Towards US$6000/T

MinRes shares soar after announcing major expansions of Wodgina and Mt Marion lithium JVs. Spodumene spot sales in the China market averaging US$5750/t: Fastmarkets.

Prices for spodumene, the 6% lithium concentrate produced by hard rock miners in Australia for sale to Asian battery makers, have held over US$5000/t on the spot market over the course of the last month.

That’s somewhere around 11 to 12 times the cost of production in WA, inflation not withstanding, encouraging MinRes and its partners to go full throttle.

“MinRes and Albemarle have also agreed to review the state of global lithium market towards the end of this calendar year to assess timing for the start-up of Train 3 and the possible construction of Train 4,” MinRes said, a ramp up that would make Wodgina a million tonne a year operation.

The first train of the Kemerton lithium hydroxide plant MinRes is building with Albemarle in a 40-60 partnership is expected to produce its first battery grade chemicals in May after spodumene feed was introduced recently, with a second train targeting mechanical completion and first product in the December quarter.

The companies are already looking at the development of further processing capacity for their Wodgina mine as well, with all spodumene ultimately to be processed through conversion facilities either built or acquired by a new 50-50 JV between MinRes and Albemarle.

“For some time now the world has seen extraordinary demand for lithium, driven by the strength of the electric vehicle market. This demand has resulted in a substantial increase in lithium prices, with pricing expected to remain strong for the rest of this decade,” MinRes MD Ellison said.

Innocent Drinks

Innocent Drinks is a company that produces smoothies and juice sold in supermarkets, coffee shops and various other outlets.

Revenue for the company declined in 2009 as a result of the global financial crisis which led to an overall loss of £8.6m. On 6 April 2009, Innocent Drinks announced on its website an agreement to sell a stake of 10-20% to The Coca-Cola Company for £30 million, with the three founders continuing to retain operational control.

An Innocent smoothie consists of whole crushed fruit and juices, but other ingredients such as carrots and ginger have been used in some drinks.

Innocent Drinks discovered that one of their supplies was contributing to the unsustainable water use threatening UNESCO World Heritage site Doñana National Park, one of Europe’s most important wetlands.

In 2022, the Advertising Standards Authority banned an Innocent drinks ad that claimed the company’s products have a positive enironmental impact.

In October 2007 Innocent was warned by the Advertising Standards Authority for making unsubstantiated claims about the health benefits of their “Superfoods” smoothies, stating that their marketing claims could not be backed up by medical science and ordering Innocent not to repeat them.

The Innocent Foundation is a registered charity funded by the employees, shareholders and company of Innocent drinks.

Brand Purpose And Responsibility

Everyone’s favourite healthy drinks vendor, social media and brand marketing gurus.

You’d be hard up to find a brand that resonates better than these smooth-talking smoothie makers.

Brand responsibility is often chalked up to what a brand does for factors such as sustainability, whether they give to charity, donate to the NHS, support important societal movements etc.

While Innocent DO do all of those things, their brand responsibility and stature isn’t limited to that.

They’ve done such an amazing job in building it, the foundations are pretty much set in stone, and this stance is sure to only strengthen their brand.

It also further demonstrates their care and brand responsibility to take a side on important current affairs.

Innocent’s brand responsibility lies solely in being ‘one of the good guys’.

Innocent Drinks Ads Banned Over Environmental Claim

Adverts for drinks firm Innocent have been banned after the advertising regulator ruled they “Misled” customers over the firm’s environmental impact.

The watchdog said the adverts did not show that Innocent’s single-use plastic products had a “Net positive” environmental impact over their full life cycles.

Twenty-six viewers, one of whom identified themselves as representing environmental group Plastics Rebellion, complained to the Advertising Standards Authority that the adverts misled customers by exaggerating the “Total environmental benefits” of the drinks.

The regulator said that because the ads “Implied that purchasing Innocent products was a choice which would have a positive environmental impact when that was not the case”, it concluded that the ads were “Misleading.”

In the ruling, Innocent responded that there was no suggestion in the ads that buying Innocent products would lead to a positive environmental impact.

Mother advertising agency declined to comment when approached by the BBC. In a statement, Plastics Rebellion said that Innocent were being “Disingenuous” about the dangers of plastic’s threat to human health and environment, as well as “Trivialising the horrific scale of the problem by repeating the mantra: ‘Reduce, re-use, recycle'”.

The watchdog also banned an Aqua Pura advert earlier this year for the claim “100% recycled bottle” because not all of the parts of the bottle were recycled and warned the firm to ensure they did not “Overstate the environmental benefit” of their brand and products, and did not claim that products made of plastic were “Eco-friendly” or “Nature friendly”.

Coffea Arabica

Arabica coffee originates from Ethiopia and was first cultivated in Yemen, and documented by the 12th century.

The conservation of the genetic variation of C. arabica relies on conserving healthy populations of wild coffee in the Afromontane rainforests of Yemen.

Arabica coffee production in Indonesia began in 1699 through the spread of Yemen’s trade.

Coffea arabica accounts for 60% of the world’s coffee production.

Gourmet coffees are almost exclusively high-quality mild varieties of arabica coffee, and among the best known arabica coffee beans in the world are those from Jamaican Blue Mountain, Colombian Supremo, Tarrazú, Costa Rica, Guatemalan Antigua, and Ethiopian Sidamo.

While beans of normal C. arabica plants contain 12 mg of caffeine per gram of dry mass, these mutants contain only 0.76 mg of caffeine per gram, but with taste similar to normal coffee.

The more heat-tolerant Coffea stenophylla may replace C. arabica as the dominant coffee species in cultivation in order to guard against this.

Despite coffee consumption being sometimes associated with increases in cardiovascular disease risk factors, including high blood pressure and plasma homocysteine levels, most evidence suggests that a regular intake of caffeinated coffee does not increase the risk of hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases.

Biogeography of Coffee Coccid PestsThere are three economically important species of coffee: Coffea arabica.

Arabica coffee accounts for 80% of world trade and robusta coffee for most of the remaining 20%. Although Coffea species are native to Africa, commercial plantations of arabica and/or robusta coffee are now grown in many tropical countries around the world.

The concentration of sucrose in green coffee is usually lower in robusta and higher in arabica varieties, while the concentration of free asparagine in robusta coffees is normally higher than in arabica ones.9 Nevertheless, this may vary significantly due to cultivation practices and processing.

The main distinction between the chemical composition of washed and natural coffee is the soluble solids content, which is higher in the case of natural coffee.

The quantity of acrylamide in roasted coffee is usually higher in robusta than in arabica coffees but, regarding the precursors, a weak correlation between acrylamide and asparagine was observed, and no correlation with reducing sugars was found.

Coffee hulls contain 3,885, and dry robusta coffee contains3,915 calories.

If legume shade trees are interplanted with the coffee, we expect more firewood from the intercrop and less from the coffee.

Coffea Arabica

Plants prefer climates with daytime temperatures of 70-80°F and nighttime temperatures of 60-65°F. Leaf drop may occur when temperatures dip below 55°F. Plants may be grown indoors in containers with a fast-draining potting soil.

Indoor plants like bright sunny windows, but when taken outdoors appreciate light shade.

Coffea arabica, commonly called Arabian coffee, is an upright tropical evergreen shrub or small tree that grows to 10-15′ tall.

In coffee plantations, plants are kept trimmed to 6′ tall for ease of harvest and best production.

Indoor container plants typically grow to about 4-6′ tall.

Plants feature glabrous, glossy, elliptical, dark green leaves with prominent veins and wavy margins, fragrant, star-shaped, white flowers that bloom in axillary clusters of 2-9, green two-seeded fruits that gradually mature to yellow, light red and finally deep red and fissured bark on older branches.

Elsewhere, it makes an attractive container plant for sun rooms that can be taken outside to patio areas in summer.

How To Grow Coffe Arabica Indoors

The coffee plant coffea arabica is a rather rare sight inside your own place.

Homegrown coffee can only be harvested, if one manages to get the plant to blossom and the red coffee cherries to develop.

Coffee plants are poured plentily from spring to autumn, young plants need more water than older ones.

On the common market you only find plants of the variety coffea arabica ‘nana’.

The plant is self- pollinating so there is no need for a second plant.

If you do not want to grow the plant yourself, you can purchase them in store.

You should remember that coffee plants grow very bushy and sweeping and can reach heights of up to 150 centimeters.

FPS135/FP135: Coffea Arabica Coffee

Each berry contains two seeds or coffee beans suitable for home roasting and grinding.

Reaching a height of 15 feet, coffee tree is a great conversation piece, growing in light rich soil and partial shade.

Regular pruning can keep the plant attractive at any desirable size.

This handsome shrub is suitable for containers, specimen plantings, or used as a small understory tree in hammocks and wild wooded areas.

Coffee plants are bothered by scales, mites, thrips, caterpillars, and mineral deficiencies.

What Is Coffee?

Everyone recognizes a roasted coffee bean, but you might not recognize an actual coffee plant.

The average coffee tree produces 10 pounds of coffee cherry per year, or 2 pounds of green beans.

All commercially grown coffee is from a region of the world called the Coffee Belt.

In the commercial coffee industry, there are two important coffee species – Arabica and Robusta.

Coffea Arabica is descended from the original coffee trees discovered in Ethiopia.

These trees produce a fine, mild, aromatic coffee and represent approximately 70% of the world’s coffee production.

Anatomy, Blood Vessels

The peripheral vascular system includes all the blood vessels that exist outside the heart.

The presence of elastin in the large blood vessels enables these vessels to increase in size and alter their diameter.

As the diameter of the blood vessels decreases, the velocity of blood flow also diminishes.

Angiogenesis is the process in which new blood vessels derive from the endothelial layer of a pre-existing vessel.

The walls of large blood vessels, like the aorta and the vena cava, are supplied with blood by vasa vasorum.

Although vessels only contain smooth muscles, the contraction of skeletal muscle plays an important role in the movement of blood from the periphery towards the heart in the venous system.

6.Sheng Y, Zhu L. The crosstalk between autonomic nervous system and blood vessels.

Blood Vessels: Types, Anatomy, Function & Conditions

It regulates blood pressure, prevents blood clots and keeps toxins out of your blood.

Conditions and Disorders What conditions and disorders affect the blood vessels?

Blood vessel walls can thicken and narrow, which prevents blood from flowing freely.

Medication: Some people need medication to manage their blood pressure, reduce their risk of blood clots or lower their cholesterol levels.

Interventional procedures can treat blood clots, aneurysms and severely narrowed blood vessels.

Surgery: You may need open surgery for some blood vessel conditions that don’t improve with medication or other nonsurgical treatments.

Blood vessels carry blood from your heart to the rest of your body.

Anatomy, Blood Vessels

The peripheral vascular system includes all the blood vessels that exist outside the heart.

Arteries play a major role in nourishing organs with blood and nutrients.

The presence of elastin in the large blood vessels enables these vessels to increase in size and alter their diameter.

As the diameter of the blood vessels decreases, the velocity of blood flow also diminishes.

The venous system can accommodate a large volume of blood at relatively low pressures, a feature termed high capacitance.

At any point in time, nearly three-fourths of the circulating blood volume is contained in the venous system.

The forward blood flow from the lower extremities to the heart is also influenced by respiratory changes that affect pressure gradients in the abdomen and chest cavity.

Blood Vessel

There are five types of blood vessels: the arteries, which carry the blood away from the heart; the arterioles; the capillaries, where the exchange of water and chemicals between the blood and the tissues occurs; the venules; and the veins, which carry blood from the capillaries back towards the heart.

The term “Arterial blood” is nevertheless used to indicate blood high in oxygen, although the pulmonary artery carries “Venous blood” and blood flowing in the pulmonary vein is rich in oxygen.

Blood vessels also circulate blood throughout the circulatory system Oxygen is the most critical nutrient carried by the blood.

Resistance is an accumulation of three different factors: blood viscosity, blood vessel length, and vessel radius.

Blood viscosity is the thickness of the blood and its resistance to flow as a result of the different components of the blood.

In contrast, occlusion of the blood vessel by atherosclerotic plaque, by an embolised blood clot or a foreign body leads to downstream ischemia and possibly infarction.

Vessel occlusion tends to be a positive feedback system; an occluded vessel creates eddies in the normally laminar flow or plug flow blood currents.

The Franklin Institute

Blood vessels may be tiny but they cover a lot of ground.

The smallest blood vessels measure only five micrometers.

There are three kinds of blood vessels: arteries, veins, and capillaries.

Arteries carry oxygenated blood away from the heart.

The arteries deliver the oxygen-rich blood to the capillaries, where the actual exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide occurs.

The capillaries then deliver the waste-rich blood to the veins for transport back to the lungs and heart.

Unlike arteries, veins contain valves that ensure blood flows in only one direction.

Definition, Anatomy, Function, & Types

Blood vessel, a vessel in the human or animal body in which blood circulates.

Very small branches that collect the blood from the various organs and parts are called venules, and they unite to form veins, which return the blood to the heart.

Capillaries are minute thin-walled vessels that connect the arterioles and venules; it is through the capillaries that nutrients and wastes are exchanged between the blood and body tissues.

The inner surface of every blood vessel is lined by a thin layer of cells known as the endothelium.

The endothelium plays a critical role in controlling the passage of substances, including nutrients and waste products, to and from the blood.

Under certain circumstances, tissues may grow new blood vessels, a process known as angiogenesis.

In humans, the function and structure of blood vessels can be affected by a number of different diseases and conditions.

Blood Vessel Disease: Symptoms, Risk Factors, Types & Treatment

Blood vessel disease is also known as peripheral vascular disease or we can call it artery disease.

The blood vessel disease is a condition of narrowing of the veins and arteries that carry blood to and from the arms, abdomen, and legs.

People over the age of 50 or who have a family history of heart or blood vessel diseases are at higher risk of developing the blood vessel disease.

A person may at higher risk for blood vessel disease if he/she;.

The most common type of blood vessel disease are high blood pressure, or hypertension, and is caused due to the increased pressure of the blood moving through the vessels.

As it is already defined that the disease blocked or narrowed the blood vessels so ultimately the disease is so small, so surgery is usually not a treatment option for it.

As the blood vessel disease can be slowed or prevented with the better and healthy lifestyle choices like exercising every day, eating a low fat and high in fiber diet, visiting the doctor regularly, managing the stress levels, having blood pressure checked, and quitting smoking.

Fast fashion is ‘fast’ in a number of senses: the changes in fashion are fast, the rate of production is fast; the customer’s decision to purchase is fast; delivery is fast; and garments are worn fast – usually only a few times before being discarded.

At the time of writing, fast fashion brand Shein featured 21,139 clothes under the ‘New in’ section of its website.

In the BBC’s ‘Breaking Fashion’ show we see Manchester-based fast fashion company, In the Style, reproducing a bodysuit worn by Kylie Jenner.

The exploitation of workers in fast fashion supply chains is partly the result of brands pressuring suppliers to produce clothes as cheaply and quickly as possible.

The low-cost of fast fashion items encourages fast sale.

The problems with fast fashion What are the environmental problems with fast fashion?

Across four major online fast fashion brands, the use of recycled fabrics was a mere 4%. Our analysis of Shein’s website found its recycled content was even lower, at only 0.5%, despite the brand claiming, “When selecting materials, we do our best to source recycled fabric, such as recycled polyester.”

The Chinese fast-fashion retailer Shein has been valued at $100 billion in a new fundraising, more than the combined market capitalisations of Inditex and H&M, the two biggest clothing companies in the world.

Shein has secured the valuation after raising between $1 billion and $2 billion from investors including General Atlantic, Tiger Global Management and Sequoia Capital China.

The valuation beats its mooted $15 billion value in 2020 and is well ahead of Zara owner Inditex’s $68 billion and H&M’s $20 billion, retailers which have thousands of stores globally.

The fundraising was first reported by The Wall Street Journal.

Shein grew from an online wedding dress seller into a clothing powerhouse producing 6,000 new items a day and shipping to.

Fast Fashion Startup Shein Valued At $100B-More Than ZARA, HM Combined

Shein, the Gen Z-favorite online apparel retailer, is now worth as much as General Electric and more than Zara and H&M combined.

Shein recently raised a round of funding at a private-market valuation of $100 billion, Bloomberg and The Wall Street Journal reported April 4, a figure unheard of among fashion companies.

Shein’s publicly traded rivals, Zara and H&M, are valued far less.

Shein takes the fast fashion model to the next level.

Shein follows the tried-and-true fast fashion rule of churning out endless off-the-runway styles at rock bottom prices, but takes it to the next level.

Most of them are priced between $8 and $30. That’s 30 percent to 50 percent less than comparable pieces sold by Zara and H&M. Thanks for its entirely digital sales model, Shein saw its popularity soar during the pandemic as more people turned to online shopping.

In May 2021, Shein overtook Amazon as the most downloaded shopping app in the U.S. Analysts believe Shein’s revenue is on track to surpass that of Inditex this year.

Can We Break The Cycle Of Fast Fashion?

“I only shop fast fashion because I feel I have no other choice,” Stevie Minacs tells me over Zoom.

Fast fashion, typically defined as cheap, trendy clothing meant for short-term wear, has been a foundation of globalized living since the late 1990s, when textile manufacturing became easier thanks to sweatshops in the developing world and efficient supply chains.

Two years into a global pandemic that has threatened incomes and access to differentiated shopping experiences, fast fashion has further tightened its grip.

“Before fast fashion, people just owned fewer garments,” says Kelly Drennan, founding executive director of Fashion Takes Action, the Canadian sustainability-focused non-profit behind the World Ethical Apparel Roundtable educational webinar series.

The threat fast fashion poses is nothing new, and there is increased pressure being put on governments to force brands to comply with what climate activists see as essential measures by imposing tariffs on imported goods that do not meet sustainability standards and incentivizing upcycling.

“The model of fast fashion is not sustainable, but it’s not going anywhere, so I think that these brands have a responsibility to take leadership positions in this area or at the very least follow what other innovative brands are doing,” she says.

EU Proposes Rules That Discourage Fast Fashion Culture: ‘Longer-Lasting Products’

The European Union is looking to discourage fast fashion culture in its member countries.

The proposed rules are packaged in the commission’s EU Green Deal.

If passed, the rules would set up a “Sustainable and circular textile” action plan that would mandate recycled fiber quotas, eco-friendly designs and digital product passports for repair and reuse tracking.

These proposed rules would aim to get clothing companies in the EU on board by 2030, according to the commission’s press release on the topic.

LULULEMON ENTERS FOOTWEAR BUSINESS WITH 4-PIECE COLLECTION. Statistics compiled by the commission’s EU Data Crunch team found that 9,000 liters of water are used to produce the textiles a European consumer typically buys in a single year.

The Oxford Dictionary defines fast fashion as “Inexpensive clothing produced rapidly by mass-market retailers in response to the latest trends.”

Attitudes about disposable clothing have shifted in recent years as consumers and brands acknowledge the effects fast fashion and textile waste have had on climate change.

What Is Fast Fashion And Why Is It So Bad?

What is fast fashion? Why is fast fashion so bad? And how exactly does it impact people, the planet, and animals?

Fast fashion’s negative impact includes its use of cheap, toxic textile dyes-making the fashion industry the one of the largest polluters of clean water globally, right up there with agriculture.

Fast fashion makes us believe we need to shop more and more to stay on top of trends, creating a constant sense of need and ultimate dissatisfaction.

As an increasing number of consumers call out the true cost of the fashion industry, and especially fast fashion, we’ve seen a growing number of retailers introduce so-called sustainable and ethical fashion initiatives such as in-store recycling schemes.

The anniversary of the Rana Plaza collapse is now Fashion Revolution Week., where people all over the world ask questions like, “Who made my clothes?” and “What’s in my clothes?” Fashion Revolution declares that “We don’t want our clothes to exploit people or destroy our planet”.

Ultra fast fashion brands like SHEIN are selling more than ever, and these young shoppers are their target market.

Learn about fast fashion’s sustainable alternative, slow fashion.

Novartis CEO Vasant Narasimhan Sees Consistent Growth While Sitting On Cash

The Novartis CEO is sitting on a $20.7 billion war chest, won when the Swiss company sold its stake in Roche Holding this fall.

Novartis , with a market value of nearly $180 billion, is among the largest biopharma firms in the world, but its stock has been left behind over the past 12 months as shares of peers like Pfizer and Eli Lilly have soared.

Novartis ADRs have eked out a gain of 5.9% over the past three years, while the S&P 500 Pharmaceuticals index is up 25.9%, and the S&P 500 index has risen 78.5%. Novartis has so far missed out on the Covid-19 vaccines and therapeutics frenzy, which pushed up investor interest in its peers, and on this year’s excitement over Alzheimer’s disease therapeutic approvals, which pushed up shares of other peers.

“Novartis is built to be a consistent growth story,” Narasimhan says.

Novartis expects to grow sales more than 4% per year on a compounded annualized basis through 2026, and says it has up to 20 assets with billion-dollar-plus sales potential that could be approved over the next five years.

Narasimhan now says Novartis is considering the future of Sandoz, a division specializing in generic drugs.

Narasimhan sees “The full range of options” for what to do with Sandoz.

Vas, a US citizen, had been with the Swiss firm for 12 years, and while he was global head of drug development, he was still a long way down the pecking order.

While you might think that putting someone relatively young in charge of a global firm is a bit unusual – Vas’ life story makes things become a lot clearer.

Born in Pittsburgh in 1976, to parents who had emigrated to the US from India, Vas had the benefit of a pretty good scientific background – his dad was a chemist, and his mother was a nuclear scientist.

After getting his doctorate in medicine from Harvard in 2003, Vas says he thought of practicing medicine, but instead joined the World Health Organisation, where he spent a year working on its efforts to boost public health around the globe.

Barbara Obstoj-Cardwell, editor of The Pharma Letter, a website providing news and analysis on the pharmaceutical sector, says that Vas has a “charismatic presence”.

“Vas Narasimhan appears to have brought plenty of energy, dynamism and ambition since taking over at Novartis – and so far, the results have largely been impressive.

Based at the firm’s head office in Basel, there has never been a language barrier for Vas, because the company switched from using German to English back in the 1990s.

Then at the age of about four months, things started to go terribly wrong for the little girl and her parents Christina Marie Lisacchi and her father Anthony Lisacchi, a local plumber by trade.

At first, her folks were told not to worry, things would be OK. But Christina, a certified nursing assistant knew something was wrong, terribly wrong.

The family lived in Roscoe at the time, and when Gabbie was two years and three months old, she awoke from a nap and couldn’t breathe; all the monitors recording her heartbeats registered zero, and the little girl began turning blue.

After rushing her to the Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center, Christina and Anthony were told Gabbie had SMA, a deadly medical condition.

The problem is that the old 1991 Ford E150 gave up the ghost in their driveway after its last outing; they had to jump-start it in front of a local pharmacy while on a mission to get Gabbie her COVID-19 booster shot.

“We’ve invested almost $11,000 in it, but it has electrical problems, the ramp gets stuck,” said Christina, adding that on what proved to be its final journey, the old rusted-out vehicle “Kept shaking and stalling out… we literally almost didn’t make it home from two miles away.” The motor may be dead. Faced with the stark reality that Gabbie desperately needs a new ride, her parents finally located a 2014 Ford E350 handicapped van at a dealership near the city, and put down a deposit of $6,000-“Everything we had saved up”-until they could come up with the rest of the money, without going broke and still have enough cash to buy Gabbie her expensive supplemental foods.

These are Christina Lisacchi’s hopes for Gabriella Rose on the eve of her 13th birthday, and as she embarks on her teenage journeys.

A Breakthrough Treatment Is Helping This Young Artist Stay Focused On Her Craft

Now a breakthrough medication she takes at home has slowed the progression of the rare disease.

HONOLULU – Janelle Fiesta was just a year old and the youngest of three kids when doctors diagnosed her with a severe, progressive neuromuscular disease called spinal muscular atrophy or SMA. The condition affects 1 in 10,000 infants.

It confined her to a wheelchair, so she turned to drawing and at 26 is a very talented anime artist.

Fiesta is also the very first SMA patient in Hawaii to take the first medication for the illness that can be administered at home.

“I’m very grateful for the medication that I’m able to take. Evrysdi gives me the comfort knowing that my SMA won’t progress any further,” she said.

“Very uncomfortable. Very anxiety inducing,” she said.

Fiesta insists her disease doesn’t define her or hold her back.

Less common forms of SMA are caused by mutations in other genes including the VAPB gene located on chromosome 20, the DYNC1H1 gene on chromosome 14, the BICD2 gene on chromosome 9, and the UBA1 gene on the X chromosome.

Except in the rare cases caused by mutations in the UBA1 gene, SMA is inherited in an autosomal recessive manner, meaning that the affected individual has two mutated genes, often inheriting one from each parent.

If the SMN1 gene is not found to be abnormal or the individual’s history and examination are not typical of SMA, other diagnostic tests may include electromyography, nerve conduction velocity studies, muscle biopsy, and other blood tests.

In May 2019, the FDA approved onasemnogene abeparovec-xioi gene therapy for children less than 2 years old who have infantile-onset SMA. A safe virus delivers a fully functional human SMN gene to the targeted motor neurons, which in turn improves muscle movement and function, and also improves survival.

Prognosis varies depending on the type of SMA. Some forms of SMA are fatal without treatment.

The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, a component of the National Institutes of Health, conducts basic, translational, and clinical research on SMA in laboratories at the NIH and also supports research through grants to major medical institutions across the country.

Animal models of SMA represent critical tools in discovering and developing new therapies for SMA. Scientists have developed zebrafish, mouse, and pig models, including models of less severe SMA types 2 and 3, which may greatly aid the identification of new therapeutic targets and candidate therapies.

Other forms of spinal muscular atrophy and related motor neuron diseases, such as spinal muscular atrophy with progressive myoclonic epilepsy, spinal muscular atrophy with lower extremity predominance, X-linked infantile spinal muscular atrophy, and spinal muscular atrophy with respiratory distress type 1 are caused by mutations in other genes.

Most children with spinal muscular atrophy type I do not survive past early childhood due to respiratory failure.

Spinal muscular atrophy type II is characterized by muscle weakness that develops in children between ages 6 and 12 months.

Individuals with spinal muscular atrophy type II cannot stand or walk unaided.

Spinal muscular atrophy type III typically causes muscle weakness after early childhood.

People with spinal muscular atrophy type III typically have a normal life expectancy.

People with spinal muscular atrophy type IV have a normal life expectancy.

Spinal Muscular Atrophy

With proper respiratory support, those with milder SMA type 1 phenotypes, which account for around 10% of SMA 1 cases, are known to survive into adolescence and adulthood even without pharmacological treatment, although they always require round-the-clock care.

Affected siblings usually have a very similar form of SMA. However, occurrences of different SMA types among siblings do exist – while rare, these cases might be due to additional de novo deletions of the SMN gene, not involving the NAIP gene, or the differences in SMN2 copy numbers.

Skeletal problems associated with weak muscles in SMA include tight joints with limited range of movement, hip dislocations, spinal deformity, osteopenia, an increase risk of fractures and pain.

Palliative care in SMA has been standardised in the Consensus Statement for Standard of Care in Spinal Muscular Atrophy which has been recommended for standard adoption worldwide.

Oral salbutamol, a popular asthma medicine, showed therapeutic potential in SMA both in vitro and in three small-scale clinical trials involving patients with SMA types 2 and 3, besides offering respiratory benefits.

Riluzole, a drug that offers limited clinical benefit in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, was proposed to be similarly tested in SMA; however, a 2008-2010 trial in SMA types 2 and 3 was stopped early due to the lack of satisfactory results.

Whilst stem cells never form a part of any recognised therapy for SMA, a number of private companies, usually located in countries with lax regulatory oversight, take advantage of media hype and market stem cell injections as a “Cure” for a vast range of disorders, including SMA. The medical consensus is that such procedures offer no clinical benefit whilst carrying significant risk, therefore people with SMA are advised against them.

What Is Organizational Culture?

In this article, we explore what organizational culture is, how companies create it, different types of culture and subcultures.

What is organizational culture? Organizational culture is the collection of beliefs, values and methods of interaction that create the environment of an organization.

Why is organizational culture important? The culture in an organization governs many things, from how it makes decisions to how employees interact.

Clan culture If you compare the culture in your workplace to a family, your workplace may possess a clan culture.

How do companies create organizational culture? Company leaders can determine the organizational culture by establishing a company mission statement that applies to all levels of a company’s operations.

Tips for identifying company culture It’s important to determine if a company’s culture is a good fit for you when looking for a new job.

This second set of values is distinct from the larger organizational culture but does not conflict with the wider workplace culture.

8.3 Understanding Organizational Culture – Principles Of Management

The term organizational culture was made popular in the 1980s when Peters and Waterman’s best-selling book In Search of Excellence made the argument that company success could be attributed to an organizational culture that was decisive, customer-oriented, empowering, and people-oriented.

In contrast to a topic such as leadership, which has a history spanning several centuries, organizational culture is a young but fast-growing area within management.

The culture of the organization is closely linked to organizational design.

If a company in the same industry has a culture characterized by stability, a high respect for tradition, and a strong preference for upholding rules and procedures, the company may suffer because of its culture.

In other words, just as having the “Right” culture may be a competitive advantage for an organization, having the “Wrong” culture may lead to performance difficulties, may be responsible for organizational failure, and may act as a barrier preventing the company from changing and taking risks.

In addition to having implications for organizational performance, organizational culture is an effective control mechanism dictating employee behavior.

Key Takeaway Organizational culture is a system of shared assumptions, values, and beliefs that helps individuals understand which behaviors are and are not appropriate within an organization.

What Is Organizational Culture? And Why Should We Care?

While there is universal agreement that it exists, and that it plays a crucial role in shaping behavior in organizations, there is little consensus on what organizational culture actually is, never mind how it influences behavior and whether it is something leaders can change.

If we can define what organizational culture is, it gives us a handle on how to diagnose problems and even to design and develop better cultures.

Sense-making has been defined as “a collaborative process of creating shared awareness and understanding out of different individuals’ perspectives and varied interests.” Note that this moves the definition of culture beyond patterns of behavior into the realm of jointly-held beliefs and interpretations about “What is.” It says that a crucial purpose of culture is to help orient its members to “Reality” in ways that provide a basis for alignment of purpose and shared action.

“Organizational culture the main culture of the society we live in, albeit with greater emphasis on particular parts of it.” – Elizabeth Skringar.

Organizational culture is shaped by and overlaps with other cultures – especially the broader culture of the societies in which it operates.

Trying to assess organizational culture is complicated by the reality that you are trying to hit a moving target.

These perspectives provide the kind of holistic, nuanced view of organizational culture that is needed by leaders in order to truly understand their organizations – and to have any hope of changing them for the better.

Organizational Culture: Definition, Types, Examples

Organizational culture is the set of underlying beliefs, values, principles, and ways of interacting within an organization.

Organizational culture defines what every employee’s behavior should be and how they should interact with the rest of the organization.

Many companies spend a lot of time defining what they want their culture to be so that eventually they don’t even need to call it culture, as it would be part of everyone’s habits.

There are four well known types of organizational culture: Clan, Adhocracy, Hierarchy, and Market.

An example of Hierarchy organizational culture is the military.

General Electric is an example of Market organizational culture.

Business leaders are responsible for designing and communicating the organizational culture they want for their company.

How To Build A Strong Organizational Culture

As a thought leader when it comes to culture and the impact it has on business, I quite frequently get approached by business leaders who want to build a strong organizational culture.

Understanding how to do this starts by understanding what organizational culture is.

For business leaders who want to build a strong organizational culture, the important thing to realize is that culture is a tool – to ensure that your organization functions in the best possible way and to ensure that your organization is recognizable, irrespective of the country of operation and the function in which people operate.

What does this mean in practice? A strong organizational culture can be used to ensure speed and efficiency between colleagues, their work and the outside world.

Let’s say you want to promote the practice of “Taking initiative.” How can you make sure that everyone on the team knows about it? One way is to ritualize the behavior with a public celebration of taking initiative, e.g., an annual “Best initiative” day or “Make a mistake” day.

If you do not measure – such as “Does the person display a sense of decency in day-to-day behavior?” – how can you determine whether or not someone is respectful? If you do not keep tabs on what defines “Efficiency,” how can you determine whether or not an initiative is done in an efficient way?

Building a strong organizational culture is a long journey, one that requires exceptional focus and consistency between the various layers.

Organizational Culture

Corporate culture was already used by managers, sociologists, and organizational theorists by the beginning of the 80s. The related idea of organizational climate emerged in the 1960s and 70s, and the terms are now somewhat overlapping, as climate is one aspect of culture that focuses primarily on the behaviors encouraged by the organization.

Flamholtz and Randle state that: “A strong culture is one that people clearly understand and can articulate. A weak culture is one that employees have difficulty defining, understanding, or explaining.” Strong culture is said to exist where staff respond to stimulus because of their alignment to organizational values.

Organizational culture is taught to the person as culture is taught by his/her parents thus changing and modeling his/her personal culture.

While there is no single “Type” of organizational culture and organizational cultures vary widely from one organization to the next, commonalities do exist and some researchers have developed models to describe different indicators of organizational cultures.

The model is also suited to measure how organizational culture affects organizational performance, as it measures most efficient persons suited to an organization and as such organizations can be termed as having good organizational culture.

Cameron and Quinn designated six characteristics of organizational culture that can be assessed with the Organizational Culture Assessment Instrument.

By assessing the current organizational culture as well as the preferred situation, the gap and direction to change can be made visible as a first step to changing organizational culture.

History Of Watches

The history of watches began in 16th-century Europe, where watches evolved from portable spring-driven clocks, which first appeared in the 15th century.

During the 1980s quartz watches took over the market from mechanical watches, a process referred to as the “Quartz crisis”.

Although mechanical watches still sell at the high end of the watch market, the vast majority of watches as of 2020 have quartz movements.

One account of the origin of the word “Watch” suggests that it came from the Old English word woecce which meant “Watchman”, because town watchmen[when?] used watches to keep track of their shifts.

The pin pallet escapement, an inexpensive version of the lever escapement invented in 1876 by Georges Frederic Roskopf was used in cheap mass-produced watches, which allowed ordinary workers to own a watch for the first time; other cheap watches used a simplified version of the duplex escapement, developed by Daniel Buck in the 1870s.

These kept time with a balance wheel powered by a solenoid, or in a few advanced watches that foreshadowed the quartz watch, by a steel tuning fork vibrating at 360 Hz, powered by a solenoid driven by a transistor oscillator circuit.

Securities And Exchange Board Of India

The Securities and Exchange Board of India is the most important regulator of securities markets in India.

SEBI is the counterpart of the Securities and Exchange Commission in the U.S. Its stated objective is “To protect the interests of investors in securities and to promote the development of, and to regulate the securities market and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.”

The Securities and Exchange Board of India was established in its current incarnation in April 1992, following the passage of the Securities and Exchange Board of India Act by the nation’s parliament.

It supplanted the Controller of Capital Issues, which had regulated the securities markets under the Capital Issues Act of 1947, passed just months before India gained independence from the British.

SEBI is run by a board of directors, including a chair who is elected by the parliament, two officers from the Ministry of Finance, one member from the Reserve Bank of India, and five members who are also elected by the parliament.

The only mechanisms to check its power are a Securities Appellate Tribunal, which consists of a panel of three judges, and the Supreme Court of India.

It also established the Financial Stability Board in 2009, in response to the global financial crisis, giving the board a broader mandate than its predecessor to promote financial stability.

NSE: NSE Meets Top Brokers On Retail Investor Rush And Its Excesses

The discussions mainly centered around the aggressive practices by some brokers to acquire clients and whether there are enough checks in place while onboarding newbie investors in riskier equity derivatives – mainly options, said three people aware of the development.

The meeting sparked speculation that the Securities and Exchange Board of India could have unofficially nudged NSE to start the groundwork for the contentious product suitability framework for individual investors, a proposal that brokers had strongly opposed.

In the meeting, NSE sought brokers’ feedback on the steps that need to be taken to ensure that retail traders have the knowledge and wherewithal to punt in futures and options, said the people cited above.

Soon after the meeting between NSE and the top brokers during the third week of March, the exchange issued a circular, asking brokers to refrain from ‘unauthorised market practices’ while acquiring clients.

NSE warned brokers against the practice of clients sharing their login and password of trading accounts with people who traded in derivatives on their behalf promising assured returns.

Hordes of new retail investors have opened demat accounts with brokers in the past two years.

NSE said in the March 25 circular that some brokers were running ‘incentives/referral schemes’ to acquire clients which were against the spirit of the exchange’s guidelines.

Individuals Can Use UPI For Bids Of Up To ₹5 Lakh In Public Issues, Says SEBI

Capital markets regulator Sebi on Tuesday said individual investors applying in public issues of equity shares and convertibles can use unified payment interface for application amount up to Rs 5 lakh.

They have been asked to provide their UPI ID in the bid-cum-application form submitted with any of these entities – syndicate member, stock broker, depository participant and registrar to an issue and share transfer agent.

The new guidelines will come into force for public issues opening on or after May 1, 2022, Sebi said in a circular.

The decision has been taken after National Payments Corporation of India reviewed the systemic readiness required at various intermediaries to facilitate the processing of applications with increased UPI limit.

As on March 30, 2022, more than 80 per cent of Self Certified Syndicate Banks/Sponsor Banks/UPI Apps have conducted the system changes and have complied with the NPCI provisions.

Dissimilarities between the red herring prospectus and the prospectus shall be called for attention in the prospectus.

Red Herring Definition

A red herring is a preliminary prospectus filed by a company with the Securities and Exchange Commission, usually in connection with the company’s initial public offering.

A red herring prospectus contains most of the information pertaining to the company’s operations and prospects but does not include key details of the security issue, such as its price and the number of shares offered.

A red herring prospectus may refer to the first prospectus filed with the SEC as well as a variety of subsequent drafts created prior to obtaining approval for public release.

To be considered eligible for release, the SEC must thoroughly review a red herring prospectus to ensure the information contained therein does not include any intentional or incidental falsehoods or statements that are in violation of any laws or regulations.

The term “Red herring” is derived from the bold disclaimer in red on the cover page of the preliminary prospectus.

A red herring prospectus can function as a source of information regarding a potential offering that is currently being crafted by a particular company.

The red herring prospectus contains substantial information on the company as well as information regarding the intended use of proceeds from the offering, market potential for its product or service, financial statements, details regarding pertinent management personnel and current major shareholders, pending litigation, and other pertinent details.

Understanding Its Role From Investor’S Standpoint

In layman terms, a red herring prospectus encloses most of the details regarding the company’s business affairs and future prospects but does not enclose critical share information such as its numbers or price.

Red herring prospectus entails the following sections and usually briefs them out in an explanatory manner to better clarify the company’s financial standing.

A red herring prospectus entails detail regarding the company’s standing compared to its rivals.

It is imperative to dig deeper into this section only after understanding the company’s business affairs and its competition.

If you come out with a finding that the company has yet to clear several due legal cases, it may be beneficial to avoid the IPO. As an investor, you must have the potential to pinpoint the real risk that could jeopardize the company’s growth in the future.

Red herring prospectus serves as a legitimate source for determining a company’s prowess in terms of financial stability.

Although it is a lengthy document, it renders a plethora of crucial information regarding the company’s operations and financials to the potential investor.

Prospectus Red Herring

A red herring prospectus is a formal legal document that is required by and filed with the relevant government financial securities regulator, and provides details about an investment offering for sale to qualified institutional investors or to the public at large, known as retail investors.

There are typically two types of prospectus; the preliminary prospectus, often referred to as “Red herring”, “Draft red herring” or “Draft red herring prospectus” and the Final Prospectus, also referred to as Statutory Prospectus aka Offering Circular.

What Prospectus.com Can Do. For startups, or established companies or funds seeking to raise capital via a formal offering, securities regulators worldwide, as well as investors in a a private offering, require the Issuer to submit a professional red herring prospectus.

The Prospectus.com team of consultants and attorneys can assist with the writing and drafting of your company’s red herring prospectus or other offering documents.

A company going through the stages of an initial public offering must create a prospectus red herring.

A prospectus red herring is needed for issuing debt, this way an investor can make an educated decision about investing.

The most important difference between a final prospectus and a preliminary prospectus is that a preliminary prospectus is NOT an official offering to sell securities and the final prospectus is the official offering document and contains the price of the securities being sold.

What Is A Red Herring Prospectus?

Red Herring Prospectus is a prospectus, which does not have details of either price or number of shares being offered, or the amount of issue.

On the other hand, an issuer can state the issue size and the number of shares are determined later.

An RHP for and FPO can be filed with the RoC without the price band and the issuer, in such a case will notify the floor price or a price band by way of an advertisement one day prior to the opening of the issue.

In the case of book-built issues, it is a process of price discovery and the price cannot be determined until the bidding process is completed.

Such details are not shown in the Red Herring prospectus filed with ROC in terms of the provisions of the Companies Act.

Only on completion of the bidding process, the details of the final price are included in the offer document.

The offer document filed thereafter with ROC is called a prospectus.

Red Herring Prospectus

A red herring prospectus, as a first or preliminary prospectus, is a document submitted by a company as part of a public offering of securities.

A red herring prospectus is issued to potential investors, but does not have complete particulars on the price of the securities offered and quantum of securities to be issued.

The front page of the prospectus displays a bold red disclaimer stating that information in the prospectus is not complete and may be changed, and that the securities may not be sold until the registration statement, filed with the market regulator, is effective.

“Red-herring prospectus” means a prospectus that does not have complete particulars on the price of the securities offered and quantum of securities offered.

Since the registration statement is a very lengthy and complex document, the Securities Act of 1933 requires the preparation of a shorter document, known as a prospectus, for investors to read. The Preliminary Prospectus is distributed during the quiet period, before the registration statement has become effective with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The name “Red Herring” relates to the red lettered disclaimer displayed on the front page of each preliminary prospectus.

The SEC does not approve the securities registered with it, does not pass on the investment merits, nor guarantee the accuracy of the statements within the registration statement or prospectus.

The Business Professor, LLC

A red herring prospectus includes the information related to the company’s operation and financial status.

All the subsequent drafts of the prospectus are also known as the red herring prospectus until it gets approval for public release.

The SEC may also direct the company to include some mandatory information in the prospectus that is missing in the draft.

The disclaimer asserts the information provided in the prospectus may be subject to change and the information is not complete.

The prospectus includes all the pertinent information about a company, such as the market potential of its products and services.

A red herring prospectus must also include information about the management and current major shareholders.

The SEC does not actually approve a prospectus; rather, they seek to ensure all the relevant information are provided in it and the information is true and correct.

Configuration Management Database

The configuration management database is a database that stores information about configurations items for use in change, release, incident, service request, problem, and configuration management processes.

All this information is structured according to the Tivoli Common Data Model, an information model used to define and share data about configuration items and other artifacts across several Tivoli management products.

The CMDB is maintained by the configuration management component of this product but is also used by other components such as change management, service request management, asset management, and more.

It is a virtual database that includes several types of data from several different sources:Maximo database Contains the actual and authorized versions of configuration item data, as well as information used for security, application and workflow design, reports, and other product functions.

Federated databases Any other databases whose contents you federate with another database.

Can contain additional data regarding configuration items from any source.

Including all these types of data in one virtual CMDB enables you to look at and compare different views of the same configuration item.

Guide To Configuration Management Databases

There is no one-size-fits-all answer to which CIs you should manage within your CMDB. Each organization’s use cases and goals should determine the level of breadth and depth that makes sense for their CMDB set-up.

In general, it makes sense to start high-level and get the services right and then only go wider or deeper where needed to meet your organizational goals.

That said, CIs can be broadly grouped as technical or non-technical entities.

Non-technical entities can also be modeled in your CMDB if you need to represent them as either dependent or impacted by other assets in your IT service mapping.

Lastly, cloud services should be taken into consideration in the design of a CMDB model.

Both SaaS offerings and IaaS offerings can be represented as CIs as needed.

Unlike legacy CMDB’s, Insight for Jira Service Management offers a flexible and open data structure so you can manage all your resources.

Configuration Management Database

The Configuration Management Database SystemAlthough the CMDB system is not explicitly responsible for gathering information about application execution, it does provide the context and data repository necessary to manage it.

Appendix B-Configuration Management DatabaseThere are a multitude of views as to what a configuration management database.

Some define the CMDB and the configuration management system by the strict IT Infrastructure Library definitions, while others rely on one of the many descriptions put forth by vendors of CMDB-related products.

“Let’s put all of IT’s data into one database and call it a Configuration Management Database!”.

“Then let’s keep it in several databases and call it a ‘Federated Configuration Management System!”.

The products that need to be controlled should be identified as configuration items and their details should be recorded in a configuration management database.

Consider the complexity of Figure 11.6., which defines a consistent method to integrate the typical enterprise directory, directory-enabled ITSM work processes, an ITSM configuration management database.

What Is A Configuration Management Database

A configuration management database is often referred to as the heart of your IT service management system.

A configuration management database provides a complete view of the IT configuration items, including Asset Management and Incident Management, their attributes, and their relationships.

Identifying the Configuration Items is an integral function for the development of a configuration management processes.

What is a CMDB? CMDB is an acronym for configuration management database.

Why is having a configuration management database important?

The configuration management database, a fundamental component of ITIL framework, is important to an organization because IT infrastructure is increasing in complexity.

Since any organization’s IT infrastructure could have millions of moving parts because of the ever-changing IT landscape including organizational shifts, new CIs, and configuration changes can be challenging, but it is essential to keep on top of any changes to keep the CMDB optimally functioning thus aiding your service desk.

ITIL Templates And Training Courses

ITIL introduced Configuration Management to remove the Configuration Management Database.

Configuration management is employed to guard and preserve OS configuration files.

4.IT cost Reduction: Having effective and proper configuration management reduces multiple costs in areas such as infrastructure, outsourced services, and management software.

Programmers apply configuration management to view new versions and disseminate the software configuration to additional hosts.

In the banking segment, keen observation is maintained on software employed, components, databases, and facilities concerning configuration management such as service support, incident management, and IT risk management.

Configuration Management serves as s sub-system of the top level of project management systems.

If properly monitored and implemented, Configuration Management guides the project management team to change the product characteristics, representing a proper way to record these changes to meet business requirements for final approvals.

What Is A CMDB?

A CMDB user can visualize each individual IT infrastructure component – for example, a storage device or an application running on a server – which prevents administrative and management errors, helps to ensure regulatory and process compliance, and increases security.

Another benefit of a CMDB is the ability to integrate data from another vendor’s software, reconcile that data, identify any inconsistences within the database and then ensure all data is synchronized.

A CMDB system can also integrate other configuration-related processes, such as change management and incident management, to better manage the IT environment.

Challenges of using a CMDB. A CMDB can also present a number of challenges.

Evolution of the CMDB. Essentially, a CMDB is a single source of truth of configuration information for IT assets, so they can be managed in order to deliver services.

Data management tools can also be used to address the issue of data federation by taking all IT data from a variety of sources and automatically storing it in a CMDB. Such tools increase the accuracy of an enterprise’s CMDB data.

Unified endpoint management and software asset management tools also can be used as data sources for a CMDB to provide visibility for devices within their control.

Configuration Management Database

The CMDB is a fundamental component of ITIL framework’s Configuration Management process.

Federation is usually distinguished from ETL solutions in which data is copied into the CMDB. CMDBs can be used for many things, including but not limited to: business intelligence, software and hardware builds, inventory, impact analysis for change management, and incident management.

The CMDB represents the authorized configuration of the significant components of the IT environment.

The CMDB contains and records data that are also called configuration items.

Configuration management addresses how the data is to be kept up to date.

A configuration item type is the data type of the element or configuration item an enterprise wishes to store within the CMDB. At a minimum, all software, hardware, network, and storage CI types are stored and tracked in a CMDB. As enterprises mature, they start to track business CI types in their CMDB, such as people, markets, products, and 3rd party entities such as vendors and partners.

CMDB schematic structures, also known as database schemas, take on multiple forms.

As CCO’s become increasingly in demand, you can now find this job role advertised on many national and international jobs boards such as Jooble.

Chief Commercial Officer: Roles, Responsibilities, And Salary

Many businesses have a Chief Commercial Officer, also known as a CCO. Anyone seeking an exciting career in commercial or online digital media must be well advised to research what it means to be a “Chief Commercial Officer” before starting their new endeavor.

Full of potential, a Chief Commercial Officer can significantly impact the company through strategic planning, budget management, policy development, and execution.

They’re in many cases the only full-time commercial “Generalist” within a company, so their responsibilities are more significant than just advertising and marketing alone.

Chief Commercial Officers are usually apprised of the entire company’s financial status, and it is their job to ensure that all departments are profitable.

The objectives of the Chief Commercial Officer are to ensure that the company must continue to provide products and services that people can be satisfied with.

A Chief Commercial Officer can provide a number of benefits to a company.

The educational background of a Chief Commercial Officer varies depending on the company for which they work.

Chief Commercial Officer

The chief commercial officer is an executive-level role, with the holder being responsible for the commercial strategy and the development of an organization.

It typically involves activities relating to marketing, sales, product development and customer service to drive business growth and market share.

As a corporate officer position, the CCO generally reports directly to the chief executive officer and is primarily concerned with ensuring the integrated commercial success of an organization.

The role typically must combine technical knowledge of the relevant field with strong marketing and business development skills.

Essentially, a CCO takes ownership of the customer and the customer interface with the product or service offering, making sure that all functions of the organization are aligned to meet its strategic commercial objectives.

This means that they are closely linked to the organization’s strategic management function, in drafting, implementing and evaluating cross-functional decisions that will enable an organization to achieve its long-term objectives.

What Are The Responsibilities Of A Chief Commercial Officer?

The CCO must have a commercial background with profound knowledge of marketing, direct sales, sales and channel management, developing pricing strategies, and key account management.

Among the major roles, the CCO is responsible for customers, interactions with consumers, offering, launching, and introducing products to meet strategic commercial objectives.

While developing and implementing commercial strategies, the CCO must ensure that it aligns with the company’s objectives and fulfil its annual budget goals.

What Does A Chief Commercial Officer Do?

A Chief Commercial Officer is the person in an organization who is tasked with the strategy and direction of a company or group in areas such as product development, customer service, and marketing.

Much like a chief financial officer or a chief operating officer, the role of a CCO is an executive position that reports directly to the chief executive officer.

As the Internet has grown and opened up new avenues for organizational expansion, more companies are finding the need for chief commercial officers with a strong marketing background to be increasingly important.

This means he or she will also typically be held responsible for working closely with the chief financial officer and any advertising agencies, branding consultants, and creative teams that have been tapped for work on a specific campaign.

If operating within a company that produces a product, one of the chief commercial officer’s duties is to be in touch with, and receive reports from, any engineering teams so he can guide the company’s value for the customer.

The chief commercial officer is in charge of how the customer experiences the company’s brand and how the company delivers the best possible experience for the customer.

Most chief commercial officer jobs require that a candidate have executive experience, a solid educational track record in a related field, and a strong background in marketing and customer service.

The Chief Commercial Officer As A Differentiator

Growth, through sales, is consistently one of the top goals of every for-profit business or organization.

The Advent of the CCO. Over the last decade, the introduction of the Chief Commercial Officer for companies both small and large has resulted from the need to help businesses harness the entire commercial power of the organization.

Before the advent of the CCO, sales responsibilities were singularly centered on the Executive Vice President of Sales or “Head of Sales” who reports directly to a key C-level leader in the organization like the CEO or COO. At first glance, the responsibilities of the CCO and sales leader seem similar.

The California Dream – the idea that every person can achieve a better life, regardless of where they start out – is central to who we are as Californians.

Even in a time of economic growth and record employment, too many Californians are experiencing the squeeze of stagnant wages and the rising price of building-block necessities such as housing, health care, education, and child care.

We can and must reanimate the California Dream, building a California for All..

California, constituent state of the United States of America.

No version of the origin of California’s name has been fully accepted, but there is wide support for the contention that it derived from an early 16th-century Spanish novel, Las sergas de Esplandián, that described a paradisiacal island full of gold and precious stones called California.

California is bounded by the U.S. state of Oregon to the north, by the states of Nevada and Arizona to the east, by the Mexican state of Baja California to the south, and by the Pacific Ocean to the west.

The fluid nature of the state’s social, economic, and political life-shaped so largely by the influx of people from other states and countries-has for centuries made California a laboratory for testing new modes of living.

California’s population, concentrated mostly along the coast, is the most urban in the United States, with more than three-fourths of the state’s people living in the Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego metropolitan areas.

Land Relief The heartland of California is the Central Valley, which runs for 450 miles through the centre of the state, forming a trough between the Coast Ranges to the west and the Sierra Nevada to the east.

The California State Water Project, launched in 1960, is the largest water-transfer system ever undertaken.

California MissionsThe California missions began in the late 18th century as an effort to convert Native Americans to Catholicism and expand European territory.

Baja California SurBaja California Sur’s glorious colonial past has made it a center for historical architecture and traditional art forms, and it’s also a great place to surf and fish.

San FranciscoPerched atop hills and filled-in marshland at the entrance to one of the Pacific’s largest natural harbors, San Francisco has had an outsized influence on the history of California and the United States.

At Four Corners, in the southeast, Utah meets Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona at right angles, the only such meeting of states in the country.

MontanaMontana is the fourth largest U.S. state by area, behind Alaska, Texas and California, but with an average of just six people per square mile, it is one of the country’s least densely populated states.

Although the name Montana is derived from the Spanish montaña of the United States, Alaska was admitted to the union as the 49th state in 1959, and lies at the extreme northwest of the North American continent.

The California Gold Rush started in 1848 and led to dramatic social and demographic changes, including large-scale immigration into California, a worldwide economic boom, and the California genocide of indigenous people.

The Spaniards gave the name Las Californias to the peninsula of Baja California and to Alta California, the region that became the present-day state of California.

These new arrivals used the Siskiyou Trail, California Trail, Oregon Trail and Old Spanish Trail to cross the rugged mountains and harsh deserts in and surrounding California.

Breaking The Traditional Sample Preparation Paradigm With PCT

“While scientists have been well aware of the potential of pressure in theory, the risks of working with high pressure in the laboratory coupled with the lack of commercial instruments have for decades been major deterrents to the use of pressure in scientific research,” mentions Schumacher.

Pioneering the game-changing concept of Pressure Cycling Technology, PBIO commercializes the use of pressure in labs for the high-quality preparation of research samples for biological studies.

PCT is a patented, enabling technology that uses alternating cycles of hydrostatic pressure between ambient and ultra-high levels to safely, conveniently, and reproducibly control the actions of molecules in biological samples.

Using PBIO’s powerful PCT platform, a researcher can manage pressure and turn it on and off, akin to controlling light with a switch.

A biological substance’s reaction time to pressure is instantaneous: by applying pressure to a cell, every biomolecule in or on the cell experiences the same pressure at that given moment as opposed to adding chemicals or using temperature, which usually takes a considerable amount of time to disseminate throughout the cell.

As Pressure BioSciences’ PCT solution can minimize damage to the biomolecules in the cell, it also has the potential to increase the number of ‘needles’ in the ‘haystack’- thus increasing the possibility of discovery.

For the future, in addition to its current use in drug discovery, development, and design, Pressure BioSciences’ growth plan involves expanding PCT to areas such as agriculture, forensics and rape kit testing, non-invasive lipidomic screening of newborns, and more.
