Down Feather
The down feather is considered to be the most “Straightforward” of all feather types.
There are three types of down: natal down, body down and powder down.
Natal down is the layer of down feathers that cover most birds at some point in their early development.
Of the various items birds use to line their nests, down feathers provide the most effective insulation, though only when dry; wet down is the least effective insulator.
In the Ghost Dance, a religious movement that became particularly widespread among the Plains Indians, each dancer held a painted feather that was tipped with a down feather painted with another color; the feathers were generally those of a crow, which was sacred to the Ghost Dance, or of an eagle, which was sacred to all tribes.
According to the International Down and Feather Bureau, eiderdown contributes only a small, but lucrative, portion of the world’s total down production, estimated at 175,000 tonnes annually.
Down insulation is rated by fill power, which is the number of cubic inches displaced by a given ounce of down.
Everything You Need To Know
Live plucking is a very inhumane process where a worker forcefully holds down the duck or goose by their neck and then rips and plucks the feathers to get access to the down from live bird’s skin.
Most of the sleeping bags and jackets arent 100% down; they use a feather and down combination to make it affordable and durable.
To be legally called down clothing in the United States of America, a down jacket needs 75% at least down in the product.
After the investigation came rolling down, knocking doors to find out other brands’ supplier information, other companies got to know their suppliers had the same unethical process.
The Responsible Down Standard aims that feathers and down strictly come from animals that are not unnecessarily harmed or subjected to unethical malpractices.

Down And Feather Pillows
I wanted the old fashioned, all feather pillows of high quality.
That’s exactly what I got! They are perfect for what I need for a good night’s sleep.
The Down Feather Industry
Down is the soft layer of feathers closest to birds’ skin, primarily in the chest region.
These feathers are highly valued by manufacturers of down clothing and comforters because they do not have quills.
While most down and other feathers are removed from ducks and geese during slaughter, birds in breeding flocks and those raised for meat may be plucked repeatedly while they are still alive.
The struggling birds are often plucked so hard that their skin is torn open and the hurried workers sew up the wounds using needle and thread and no painkillers.
Buying down can also support the cruelty of the foie gras industry.
Producers of foie gras often boost their profits by selling the feathers of force-fed ducks and geese.
These birds already have to endure having tubes rammed down their throats and their stomachs pumped full of so much corn mush that their livers swell to about 10 times their normal size, which is how foie gras is made.
What Is Down & Feather? – American Down And Feather Council
Down is the light fluffy coating clustered beneath the feathers of waterfowl that helps to protect them and keep them warm through natural insulation.
Down is a three dimensional cluster made up of fluffy filaments and contains no quill.
Feathers are from the plumage of waterfowl, and do contain quills.
They are two dimensional and provide insulation and support to down and feather products.
Down and feathers provide us with natural fill products that are breathable, durable and resilient, and provide excellent insulation without a lot of weight.
Down and feather products are also natural and environmentally friendly; their manufacture leaves a far lower carbon footprint than synthetic materials.

Yellen did not lead the San Francisco Fed to “Move to check [the] increasingly indiscriminate lending” of Countrywide Financial, the largest lender in the U.S. On June 5, 2009, Yellen said that Federal Reserve should consider raising interest rates earlier to prevent another housing bubble.
In her 2014 semiannual testimony on monetary policy, Yellen said that while real estate, equities, and corporate bond prices “Have risen appreciably and valuation metrics have increased”, they were “Generally in line with historical norms”; Yellen noted some concerns about valuations of “Lower-rated corporate debt”, and noted that she and the Fed were monitoring trends, but did not believe that a so-called “Everything bubble” was forming.
When asked if she believes Trump has “a grasp of economic policy”, Yellen said “No, I do not.” In an interview with Marketplace, Yellen explained that she doubts that Trump could articulate the Federal Reserve’s explicit goals of “Maximum employment and price stability”.
When her appointment as treasury secretary was announced in December 2020, Yellen was viewed by Wall Street “As a Treasury secretary who will push hard for expansionary policies aimed at boosting growth, profits and share prices”, although the ability of Yellen to push through her preferred fiscal policies was seen as likely to be constrained by congressional gridlock.

Janet Yellen Calls For Crypto Regulations To Cut Risks, Fraud
Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen says more government regulation is needed to police the proliferation of cryptocurrency and other digital assets and to ward off fraudulent and illicit transactions.
The administration’s action follows several high-profile examples of alleged cryptocurrency laundering and fraud this year.
In February, the Justice Department announced its largest-ever financial seizure – more than $3.6 billion – and the arrests of a couple accused of conspiring to launder billions of dollars in cryptocurrency stolen from the 2016 hack of a virtual currency exchange.

The U.S. also ordered a ban on Russian oil imports – something that Yellen acknowledged will push energy prices higher.
“We think it’s a price that’s important to pay to punish Russia for what it’s doing in Ukraine,” she said.

With multiplier effect knock-on impacts, the likely consequence will be a consequent fall-off in demand; a drop in investment; an increase in unemployment and a fall in tax revenue quite likely to be as big for these reasons as the sum that the Resolution Foundation says it intends to raise.
Critical programmes, like the Green New Deal, would likely be hit, and the demand for this programme by the likes of the Resolution Foundation will only encourage a much stronger call for austerity, with spending cuts inevitably targeted at the most vulnerable, in response from the Conservatives.
Just when Labour will be struggling to win against electoral arithmetic that looks insurmountable, the Resolution Foundation will be there promoting a profoundly neoliberal narrative.
This lack of understanding, and dedication to a narrative that suggests government can crowd out the private sector, whose activities must always be considered of greater virtue than those of government, must motivate the Resolution Foundation.
The agenda that the Resolution Foundation is proposing would be disastrous for the UK. I hope I am not alone in saying so.

Universal credit taper rate cut could help millions – think tank.
It is now expected that the chancellor will announce changes to universal credit.
Specifically, he could lower the taper rate, which would allow people to keep more of the money they earn as their working hours increase.
Under the current taper rate, claimants lose 63p in benefits for every extra pound they earn.
Karl Handscomb, senior economist at the Resolution Foundation think tank, says: “At the moment, workers receiving universal credit keep just 37p of every extra pound they earn – falling to less than 25p if they also pay income tax and National Insurance.”
He says cutting the taper rate will help over two million people claiming universal credit.
He adds: “Reducing the taper rate will help over two million families on universal credit. It won’t fully compensate the £20 a week cut – particularly for people who aren’t able to work.”

Reusable Shopping Bag
A reusable shopping bag, sometimes called a bag-for-life in the UK, is a type of shopping bag which can be reused many times, in contrast to single-use paper or plastic shopping bags.
One reusable bag requires the same amount of energy as an estimated 28 traditional plastic shopping bags or eight paper bags.
Some supermarkets have encouraged shoppers to stop using disposable plastic bags, by for example offering inexpensive reusable shopping bags or providing information on plastic bags’ environmental damage.
Most reusable bag shoppers do not wash their bags once they return home, and the bags may be leading to food poisoning, according to Dr. Richard Summerbell, research director at Toronto-based Sporometrics and former chief of medical mycology for the Ontario Ministry of Health.
In December 2010, Canadian-based athletic retailer Lululemon Athletica recalled complimentary reusable bags distributed since November 2009 because “Environmental concerns were raised over the proper disposal of reusable bags due to lead content.” Sears’ Canadian stores announced a recall on reusable bags because of similar findings on January 6, 2011.
Because of the encouragement of reusable shopping bags by governments and supermarkets, reusable shopping bags have become one of the new fashion trends.
Several methods are available to objectively determine if reusable shopping bags are indeed reusable.

Shuangta Food Shares Gain After Chinese Pea Protein Firm Develops Artificial Meat
Sept. 5 – Shares of Yantai Shuangta Food, a major Chinese supplier of protein and starch derived from peas, jumped after the company said it had successfully developed artificial meat products.
The company’ stock price has more than tripled so far this year, buoyed by an enthusiasm among investors for meat substitutes.
It has produced vegetarian-meat mooncakes and products with veggie meat fillings made from pea protein, filling a domestic technology gap, the Yantai, Shandong province-based company said in a statement late yesterday.
In early June, Shuangta Food said that its protein raw materials were being supplied through distributors to Beyond Meat, a meat substitutes producer based in the US, and that its pea protein can be used as the raw ingredient for fake meat.
At the end of the same month, the firm revealed that it had begun research and development on artificial meat, which would be one of its future priorities.
It remains unknown whether Shuangta Foods will start selling the artificial meat products in time for the festival.
The products are made from pea tissue protein and protein drawing, with high water retention, high elasticity, high tissue content and other characteristics, the firm said.
This Chinese Rice Noodle Factory Wants To Make Your Next Burger. Will It Succeed?
Scientists have therefore sought to create meat products that replicate the taste, texture, and appearance of the real deal down to the last detail, even the grill marks or blood juices of a cooked burger patty.
As Beyond Meat and Impossible Meat found success by perfecting the use of pea protein to produce imitation meat, and by forging collaborations with major fast-food chains like Burger King, McDonald’s, and Taco Bell to develop and use new products, they have driven up demand for pea protein.
Revenue from pea protein sales has long eclipsed that of the company’s traditional vermicelli production, making up for over a quarter of the firm’s income in 2019, according to Chinese financial data firm Wind.
The refining of pea protein as part of the by-product of a wider noodle production has also allowed the firm to save on costs, with other wastewater from the main production process being fermented to create biogas, which is used to power factory operations, and fertilizer that are being used to grow crops harvested for production.
Company plans reviewed by 36Kr show that management is seeking to capture up to 60% of the market share in the pea protein market in the next two to three years.
Chinese consumers are no stranger to the concept of mock meat options.
Many western firms, including Shuangta’s own customers, have begun entering the Chinese market, with Beyond Meat working with Starbucks and Yum China, which operates KFC outlets there, to launch plant-based meat menus.

Post Idea #11: Rolling-element bearing

Rolling-Element Bearing
A rolling-element bearing, also known as a rolling bearing, is a bearing which carries a load by placing rolling elements between two bearing rings called races.
If the inner and outer races are misaligned, the bearing capacity often drops quickly compared to either a ball bearing or a spherical roller bearing.
The downsides to this bearing is that due to manufacturing complexities, tapered roller bearings are usually more expensive than ball bearings; and additionally under heavy loads the tapered roller is like a wedge and bearing loads tend to try to eject the roller; the force from the collar which keeps the roller in the bearing adds to bearing friction compared to ball bearings.
Roller-element bearing for a shaft use bearing balls in a groove designed to recirculate them from one end to the other as the bearing moves; as such, they are called linear ball bearings or recirculating bearings.
As the bearing continues to rotate, the weld is then torn apart, but it may leave race welded to bearing or bearing welded to race.
The life of a rolling bearing is expressed as the number of revolutions or the number of operating hours at a given speed that the bearing is capable of enduring before the first sign of metal fatigue occurs on the raceway of the inner or outer ring, or on a rolling element.
The loads within a bearing assembly are also affected by the speed of operation: rolling-element bearings may spin over 100,000 rpm, and the principal load in such a bearing may be momentum rather than the applied load. Smaller rolling elements are lighter and thus have less momentum, but smaller elements also bend more sharply where they contact the race, causing them to fail more rapidly from fatigue.
The organization of this report is such that unloaded and unlubricated rolling-element bearings are considered in the first six sections, loaded but unlubricated rolling-element bearings are considered in sections 7 to 9, and loaded and lubricated rollingelement bearings are considered in sections 10 to 14.
From the radius-of-curvature expressions, the radii Rx and R, for the contact example discussed earlier can be written for the ball-inner-race contact as A A I d,+d cos$ 2 R = d(de-dcos P) X 2de 11 . fad Ry= 2fo-1 3.2 Geometry of Roller Bearings The equations developed for the pitch diameter de and diametral clearance Pd for ball bearings in equations and, respectively, are directly applicable for roller bearings.
The relative velocities in a ball bearing are somewhat more complex than those in roller bearings, the latter being analogous to the specialized case of a zero- or fixedvalue-contact-angle ball bearing.
Dryfilm-lubricated bearings, bearings cooled by liquefied cryogenic gases, and bearings exposed to corrosive environments such as very high humidity and salt water are applications where corrosion-resistant alloys should be considered.
Diameter of rolling element, m number of rows of rolling elements number of rolling elements per row contact angle coefficient dependent on material and bearing type For radial ball bearings with dz2.5 mm, C=f,(icos 8)0.7tW For radial roller bearings, 1.4 For ordinary bearing steels such as SAE 52100 with mineral oil lubrication, f, can be evaluated by using tables 14 and 15, but a more convenient method is to use tabulated values from the most recent Antifriction Bearing Manufacturers Association documents on dynamic load ratings and life.
For some bearings CO is less than C, so it is important to avoid exposing a bearing to a static load that exceeds CO. Values of CO are given in bearing manufacturers’ catalogs.
The standard presents the following: Life and dynamic load rating formulas for radial and thrust ball bearings and radial and thrust roller bearings Tables off, for all cases Tables of X and Y factors for calculating equivalent loads Load rating formulas for multirow bearings Life correction factors for high-reliability levels at, materials ~2, and lubrication or operating conditions a3 Procedures for calculating a2 and a3 are less than definitive, reflecting the need for additional research, life data, and operating experience.
Rolling Element Bearings
Rolling element bearings are suited to applications that require a low friction, high accuracy bearing solution that can operate at high speeds.
There are a number of different configurations available, including deep-groove ball bearings, angular contact bearings, and need roller bearings.
Kaman can also offer special designs that are custom engineered for your application.
Rolling Element Bearings
If an assembly requires high precision, or will experience high levels of friction, plain bearings can be replaced by rolling element bearings.
Designs based on single row ball bearings have several variants: with seal, shield or open, full complement or with cage-separated rolling elements.
The shielded or sealed bearings are greased, and available with different radial clearance values depending on customer requirements.
What Are Roller Bearings?
Roller bearings – also known as rolling-element bearings – are similar to ball bearings in that they are designed to carry a load while minimizing friction.
Browse All Bearings While roller bearings can handle higher loads than conventional ball bearings, their applications are generally limited to low-speed operations.
Roller Bearing Types and Applications There are thousands of different types of roller bearings available to meet specific application requirements.
Emerson Bearing offers a broad selection of roller bearings, including the following popular types: Cylindrical roller bearings These bearings feature rollers that are longer than their diameter, and can tolerate higher loads than ball bearings.
Needle roller bearings This type of bearing is thinner than conventional roller bearings and can be designed with or without an inner ring.
Taper roller bearings These bearings can support radial and thrust loads.

The liquid propulsion stages for the second and fourth stages of PSLV as well as the Reaction control systems are developed by the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre at Mahendragiri near Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu.
During staging, these eight rockets help push away the spent stage away from second stage.
On inter-stage of PS2 there are two pairs of ullage rockets to maintain positive acceleration during PS1/PS2 staging and also two pairs of retro-rockets to help push away spent stage during PS2/PS3 staging.
The stage is pressurized by Helium and carries up to 2,500 kg of propellant in the PSLV and PSLV-XL and 2,100 kg in the PSLV-CA. On PSLV-C29/TeLEOS-1 mission, the fourth stage demonstrated re-ignition capability for the first time which was used in many subsequent flights to deploy payloads in multiple orbits on a single campaign.
The third stage, which is a solid rocket booster, and burns 80 seconds and then coasts for the remainder of time and around T+8/10 minutes, it separates and the 4th stage ignites to give the rocket a final push into the orbit.

Launch Vehicle
The Mars 2020 mission was designed to launch at a time when Earth and Mars are in positions in their orbits that is advantageous for spacecraft traveling to and landing on Mars.
This favorable position of the planets means that it takes less launch energy to get to the Red Planet compared to other times when Earth and Mars are in different positions in their orbits around the sun.
When mission planners are choosing among different launch vehicles, they consider how much mass each launch vehicle can lift into space.
The integrated Mars 2020 flight system is similar in size and mass to its predecessor, the Mars Science Laboratory mission.
The Mars Science Laboratory mission had a total launch mass, including the Atlas V-541 that lifted it away from Earth, of about 531,000 kilograms.
Mars 2020 launched on an Atlas V-541, an intermediate-class launch vehicle.
NASA had also successfully used rockets in the same family for prior missions such as Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, New Horizons, Mars Science Laboratory, and Juno.
Types & Definition
The initial acceleration must also be provided very rapidly in order to minimize both the time that a launch vehicle takes to transit the stressful environment of the atmosphere and the time during which the vehicle’s rocket engines and other systems must operate near their performance limits; a launch from Earth’s surface or atmosphere usually attains orbital velocity within 8-12 minutes.
With the exception of the partially reusable U.S. space shuttle and the Soviet Buran vehicle, all launch vehicles to date have been designed for only a single use; they are thus called expendable launch vehicles.
With costs ranging from more than 10 million dollars each for the smaller launch vehicles used to put lighter payloads into orbit to hundreds of millions of dollars for the launchers needed for the heaviest payloads, access to space is very expensive, on the order of many thousands of dollars per kilogram taken to orbit.
Historically, many launch vehicles have been derived from ballistic missiles, and the link between new countries developing space launch capability and obtaining long-range military missiles is a continuing security concern.
Most launch vehicles have been developed through government funding, although some of those launch vehicles have been turned over to the private sector as a means of providing commercial space transportation services.
Particularly in the United States, there have also been a number of entrepreneurial attempts to develop a privately funded launch vehicle; one company, Space Exploration Technologies, has successfully developed the Falcon family of launch vehicles.
The Saturn family of launch vehicles, which also included the Saturn IB, was the first American launch vehicle family developed specifically for space use.

The first in the series of test launches was the successful launch of the CPM-TV, which included a test of a stage-one prototype rocket engine.
A flight test the NEPTUNE second-second stage rocket engine was carried out with the IOS Neutrino rocket launch in 2018.
At just $995,000 per dedicated launch, the NEPTUNE launch vehicle will be the smallest and lowest-cost rocket on the market.
The basic TRITON launch vehicle is expected to cost only $6 million per dedicated launch or $4,800 per kilogram.
The design points are usually selected by DOE methods such as Taguchi’s orthogonal arrays, central composite designs, and saturated designs.
The design team begins the point design by making specific choices, reflecting agreed-upon ground rules and assumptions, for each design decision as represented by the ovals in figure 2.
Thirty-nine different vehicle point designs were generated and used to fit a 22-term, second-order response surface of the design space as a function of the design and noise variables from which the minimum dryweight point design was identified.
User Point of View For each study scenario to be supported by AEE, single designer, or multiple designers operating from various remote sites, must access, change, test, monitor, and view the design elements of the AEE. These design elements include: a database of concept disciplinary models; a database of advanced technology candidates; parameter value, range, and uncertainty specification; execution procedures; and results presentation.
Areas of opportunity open to the AEE program for improving the conceptual design capability, in order of relative priority, are: 1) increasing the fidelity of empirical disciplinary models, 2) improving design solutions and insight by implementing design of experiments and optimization methods, and 3) reducing workload and design cycle time through advanced frameworks.
Such a capability will allow vehicle designers to rapidly consider a number of fully converged design alternatives in a very short time without sacrificing design detail, thus improving the quality of conceptual space vehicle design.
Central composite designs D-optimal designs for computer experiments D-Optimal Designs Most experimental designs are developed with the objective of minimizing experimental variance, so that outputs have neither measurement error nor variability.
3.57 Temperature Stabilization Temperature stabilization in a thermal test is achieved when the controlling temperature location on the test article is within the allowed test tolerance at the specified test temperature and the temperature rate of change is less than a specified value.
3.59 Test Item Failure A failure of a test item is defined as a test discrepancy that is due to a design, workmanship, process, or any quality deficiency in the item being tested.
The only tests allowed prior to the start of protoqualification testing of an item include: a. Wear-in or run-in necessary to achieve a smooth, consistent, and controlled operation of MMAs b. In-process workmanship screening, and c. Burn-in of certain electrical/electronic assemblies to screen out latent defects 4.3.3.2 Protoqualification Test Levels and Durations The protoqualification test level for an environment shall include margin and duration, reduced from that for qualification.
Testing of a unit on an engine during the engine acceptance test firing may be substituted for part of the unit level acceptance test if it can be established that the environments and duration meet the intent of the individual acceptance test criteria, or if such units are not amenable to testing individually.
If the unit being replaced was included in an engine acceptance test firing as part of its acceptance test, then the replacement unit shall either be subjected to such a test on an engine, or shall undergo equivalent unit-level acceptance testing.
Software development testing shall include software unit testing, software unit integration testing, and software/hardware integration testing.
4.5.4 Software Regression Testing Regression testing of affected software unit test cases, software unit integration test cases, software/hardware integration test cases, and software qualification test cases shall be performed after any modification to previously tested software.

David Michael Solomon is an American investment banker, and the chief executive officer of Goldman Sachs, a position he has held since October 2018.
Solomon declined the offer because Adelson “Wasn’t willing to give up day-to-day control, and [he] didn’t want to be an understudy.” Despite Goldman Sachs not disclosing his total compensation packages, SEC and IRS filings indicate that Solomon was paid a base salary of US$1.85 million with an award of restricted stock worth about $10 million in January 2015.
After Gary Cohn resigned from Goldman to become the Chief Economic Advisor to Donald Trump, then President of the United States, Solomon was elevated to president and co-chief operating officer along with Harvey Schwartz in December 2016.
Solomon received $11.85 million compensation package in January 2017 and January 2018.
On March 12, 2018 Goldman announced that Schwartz, the company’s co-chief operating officer and president would be resigning, leaving Solomon as the second-in-command.
In 2021, Goldman Sachs announced it would be slashing Solomon’s pay in 2020 by 36% for the bank’s admission due to the 1MDB scandal, causing Goldman to pay nearly $3 billion in October 2020 to government officials in four countries to close an investigation into the work the bank performed for 1MDB. Solomon received a $27.5 million compensation package in 2019 and was given a $17.5 million package for 2020.
Solomon performs regularly as a disc jockey under the name “David Solomon” producing a variety of electronic dance music.

David M Solomon attended Edgemont Junior-Senior High School and worked at a local Baskin Robbins before working as a camp counselor in New Hampshire.
During the late 1990s, David M Solomon worked with a variety of Goldman Sachs managers which inspired his move to the firm in 1999 to work with their leveraged finance team as a partner, aged 37.
David M Solomon expressed an interest in lowering the maximum hours worked during normal business days from somewhere near 90 hours a week to somewhere near 70 to 75 hours a week, when not actively engaged in closing a deal.
David M Solomon Dj. David M Solomon recreationally performs monthly gigs as a disc jockey under the stage name DJ D-Sol.
March 5, 2021.A little more than two years into David M. Solomon’s tenure as chief executive of Goldman Sachs, at least nine senior executives have left or intend to leave soon.
Since the beginning of the year, four key executives have announced plans to leave, according to internal emails and employees: Goldman’s top lawyer, one of its heads of asset management, one of its few Black female partners and the head of its consumer banking business.
“The firm is well on its way to meeting the goals we set, and investors seem to appreciate the changes, the greater transparency, and the clear direction we’ve put in place,” said Jake Siewert, a Goldman spokesman, in a nod to its stock price, which is trading at about $330, an all-time high.
“It’s an important part of Goldman tradition for partners to leave for a wide range of new pursuits, and we wish them well.”
Even though Goldman hasn’t been a true partnership since 1999, when it went public, previous chief executives, including Mr. Blankfein, were deferential to that aspect of the firm’s culture.
Others questioned his mandate that meetings of the management committee be held at Goldman headquarters, say current and former partners.
Around the same time, Omer Ismail, head of Goldman’s Marcus consumer business, left to run a new financial-technology venture that has been seeded by Walmart, taking a deputy who had overseen the firm’s Apple credit card partnership along with him.
Goldman Sachs CEO David ‘DJ D-Sol’ Solomon Playing At Lollapalooza
Solomon will be joining singers including Dua Lipa, Metallica, Doja Cat and Green Day at the famed four-day Chicago bash.
The hard-charging Solomon – who has attracted controversy with his part-time DJ gigs amid complaints from junior bankers about 100-hour work weeks – has defended spinning records saying it helps his “Left brain, right brain” balance.
“I thought about it and I said, ‘I enjoy this, I’m not doing anything wrong,'” Solomon said.
One source close to Solomon said that, despite his hard-driving management style, many Goldman employees have now accepted and even embraced their boss’s DJ’ing habit.
Still, others say Solomon’s musical pursuits have sometimes rubbed employees the wrong way.
In summer 2020, Solomon opened for The Chainsmokers at a charity benefit in the Hamptons that came under fire for violating social distancing guidelines.
A spokesman declined to comment on Solomon’s performance.
What Is Goldman Sachs CEO David M. Solomon’S Net Worth?
As junior Goldman Sachs employees complained about “Inhumane” working conditions spawning from 105-hour workweeks, Solomon noted his commitment to do better.
In late March 2020, about a month and a half after the U.S. issued a public health emergency amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Goldman Sachs announced that Solomon would receive a 20 percent pay increase on top of his already multi-million dollar salary.
Bank employees played a part in raising $6.5 billion for the state fund called 1Malaysia Development Berhad. Billions were looted from the fund from 2009-2013, right at the time Goldman Sachs employees were involved.
As a final warning to the Goldman corporation, Solomon and three other members of the current executive branch saw a collective pay cut of $31 million in 2020.
David M. Solomon’s net worth speaks volumes.
Solomon is seated at the apex of all of Goldman Sachs’s controversy, but it isn’t all bad. He retains a valuable net worth in cash, equity, and assets.
Even with salary swings, Solomon receives millions of dollars per year for his role as Goldman Sachs CEO, which only adds to his net worth.
Executive Officers
David Solomon is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board of Directors of The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. Previously, he was President and Chief Operating Officer and prior to that, he served as Co-Head of the Investment Banking Division from 2006 to 2016.
Mr. Solomon was Global Head of the Financing Group, which includes all capital markets and derivative products for the firm’s corporate clients.
Mr. Solomon is Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Hamilton College and serves on the board of The Robin Hood Foundation.
He also serves on the Board of Trustees of New York-Presbyterian Hospital.

Glass Lewis, ISS, And ESG
To date, their coverage focuses on approximately 4,700 companies across 24 industries they view “As being most exposed to E&S risks, including: Energy, Materials, Capital Goods, Transportation, Automobiles & Components, and Consumer Durables & Apparel.” ISS believes that the extent to which companies disclose their practices and policies publicly, as well as the quality of a company’s disclosure on their practices, can be an indicator of ESG performance.
Glass Lewis uses data and ratings from Sustainalytics, a provider of ESG research, in the ESG Profile section of their standard Proxy Paper reports for large cap companies or “In instances where [they] identify material oversight issues.” Their stated goal is to provide summary data and insights that can be used by Glass Lewis clients as part of their investment decision-making, including aligning proxy voting and engagement practices with ESG risk management considerations.
The Glass Lewis evaluation, using Sustainalytics guidelines, rates companies on a matrix which weighs overall “ESG Performance” against the highest level of “ESG Controversy.” Companies who are leaders in terms of ESG practices have a higher threshold for triggering risk in this model.
ISS and Glass Lewis guidelines can help provide a basic structure for starting board conversations about ESG. For most companies, the primary focus is on transparency, in other words how clearly are companies disclosing their practices and philosophies regarding ESG issues in their financial filings and on their corporate websites? When a company has had very public environmental or social controversies-and particularly when those issues have impacted shareholder value-advisory firm evaluations of corporate transparency may also impact voting recommendations on director elections or related shareholder proposals.
This shift will likely happen sooner in areas where ESG issues are more prominent, such as those specifically named by Glass Lewis.
We are recommending that organizations take the time to examine any ESG issues relevant to their business and understand how those issues may be important to stakeholders on a proactive basis, perhaps adding ESG policies to the list of sunny day shareholder outreach topics after this year’s proxy season.
This does take time and effort, but better that than to find out about a nagging ESG issue through activist activity or a negative voting recommendation from ISS or Glass Lewis.
ISS And Glass Lewis Issue 2022 Policy Guidelines
In its policy updates for 2021, ISS stated that beginning with annual meetings after February 1, 2022, it would generally recommend against the nominating committee chair of companies in the S&P 1500 Index and the Russell 3000 Index if there were no apparent racially or ethnically diverse members.
For gender diversity, the ISS 2021 policies continued its previous policy of generally recommending against the chair of the nominating committee for companies in the Russell 3000 Index or the S&P 1500 index if there were no women on the board.
The 2022 policies will extend this policy to all companies for meetings held on or after February 1, 2023.
ISS will target companies with dual class share structures more aggressively in 2023, removing the grace period for newly public companies and the “Grandfathering” exception for other companies.
For 2022 shareholder meetings of companies in the Russell 3000 Index, GL will generally recommend voting against the chair of the nominating committee of a board with fewer than two gender diverse directors or the entire nominating committee of a board with no gender diverse directors.
If the company’s disclosure includes a rationale or plan to address a lack of board diversity, the 2022 GL policy updates indicate that GL may refrain from issuing negative voting recommendations.
With respect to state laws on demographic diversity, the 2022 updates provide that, for meetings held after December 31, 2021, GL will generally recommend voting against the chair of the nominating committee of a company headquartered in California if the company does not have at least one director from one of the demographic groups identified in the applicable California law.

There are 13 known clotting factors which are called by their Roman numbers – factor I to factor XIII. A complex cascade of chemical reactions involving these clotting factors quickly occurs next to a cut.
Anticoagulants interfere with chemicals needed to make clots or clotting factors.
Warfarin, acenocoumarol and phenindione block the effects of vitamin K which is needed to make some clotting factors described earlier.
Anticoagulants are prescribed if you already have a blood clot, the most common cause being a deep vein thrombosis and/or a clot on the lung, called a pulmonary embolus.
List Of Anticoagulants + Uses, Types & Side Effects
Anticoagulants are medicines that increase the time it takes for blood to clot.
Anticoagulants may be used to treat blood clots, or in conditions where the risk of blood clots is increased to reduce the risk.
Anticoagulants may be divided into four main groups: coumarins and indandiones; factor Xa inhibitors; heparins; and direct thrombin inhibitors.
Factor Xa inhibitors can affect factor Xa within the blood and also within a pre-existing clot.
The heparins are a group of anticoagulants that consist of unfractionated heparin, low molecular weight heparins, and heparinoids.
Unfractionated heparin needs to be given directly into the blood by intravenous injection, and inhibits thrombin and factor Xa, factors necessary in the final stages of the blood clotting cascade.
Low molecular weight heparins also work on thrombin and factor Xa; however, they preferentially inactivate factor Xa. Because their anticoagulant response is more predictable, they do not need daily blood monitoring.
Anticoagulant
Oral anticoagulants are taken by many people in pill or tablet form, and various intravenous anticoagulant dosage forms are used in hospitals.
The most serious and common adverse side effect associated with anticoagulant are increased risk of bleeding, both nonmajor and major bleeding events.
Risk of bleeding is dependent on the class of anticoagulant agent used, patient’s age, and pre-existing health conditions.
Excessive intake of aforementioned food should be avoided whilst taking anticoagulants or, if coagulability is being monitored, their intake should be kept approximately constant so that anticoagulant dosage can be maintained at a level high enough to counteract this effect without fluctuations in coagulability.
Grapefruit interferes with some anticoagulant drugs, increasing the amount of time it takes for them to be metabolized out of the body, and so should be eaten with caution when on anticoagulant drugs.
On the basis of limited evidence, general consensus appears to be that in most patients who are receiving the newer direct-acting oral anticoagulants and undergoing dental treatment, no change to the anticoagulant regimen is required.
In patients deemed to be at higher risk of bleeding, consideration may be given, in consultation with and on advice of the patient’s physician, to postponing the timing of the daily dose of the anticoagulant until after the procedure; timing the dental intervention as late as possible after last dose of anticoagulant; or temporarily interrupting drug therapy for 24 to 48 hours.
Anticoagulant Drug List: Blood Thinner Side Effects & Types
An anticoagulant is a drug that treats, prevents, and reduces the risk of blood clots-breaking off and traveling to vital organs of the body, which can lead to life threatening situations.
Anticoagulant treatment is used to prevent the formation of new blood clots, and to treat existing clots by preventing them from growing larger in size.
Treatment with more than one blood thinner or using medicine that can cause bleeding will increase the risk of bleeding from any anticoagulant.
Warfarin prevents the formation of a blood clots in patients by reducing the production of factors II, VII, IX, and X, and the anticoagulant proteins C and S by the liver.
Heparin and low molecular weight heparins prevent a blood clot from forming by blocking the action of two of the 12 clot-promoting proteins in the blood whose action is necessary for blood to clot.
Thrombin inhibitors work by blocking the action of thrombin, a protein that is necessary for the coagulation of blood and formation of a blood clot.
There are a variety of uses for these drugs, which include the treatment or prevention of deep vein thrombosis, blood clots in the lung, stroke, blood clots during AFib, and heart attacks.
Anticoagulation
This activity reviews different anticoagulation therapies, their indications, contraindications, and highlights the role of the interprofessional team in improving care for patients requiring anticoagulation.
Several factors can increase the risk of bleeding in patients receiving anticoagulation therapy.
Estimation of the risk of thromboembolism, bleeding, and timing of anticoagulation should be considered for patients undergoing elective procedures.
For patients with low risk, bridging anticoagulation is not indicated.
For patients with significant risk, bridging anticoagulation is indicated.
Bridging anticoagulation is not recommended for patients at low or moderate risk for thromboembolism.
The perioperative management of anticoagulation for hospitalized and ambulatory adult patients on anticoagulation for various reasons requires expert clinical judgment tailored to the patients’ needs.
Anticoagulant Medicines
Anticoagulants are medicines that help prevent blood clots.
The most commonly prescribed anticoagulant is warfarin.
If you’re unsure how to take your medicine, or are worried that you missed a dose or have taken too much, check the patient information leaflet that comes with it or ask your GP, anticoagulant clinic or pharmacist what to do.
There are several things you need to be aware of when taking anticoagulant medicines.
Speak to your GP, anticoagulant clinic or pharmacist before taking any other medicines, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, as some medicines can affect how your anticoagulant works.
Most anticoagulant medicines aren’t suitable for pregnant women.
Speak to your GP or anticoagulant clinic if you become pregnant or are planning to try for a baby while taking anticoagulants.
Definition Of Anticoagulant By Medical Dictionary
Anticoagulant therapy the therapeutic use of anticoagulants to discourage formation of blood clots within a blood vessel.
Anticoagulant agents include those that interfere with the formation of clots, such as heparin.
The patient and family should be given adequate instruction in the purposes of anticoagulant therapy, the effects and side effects of other drugs and dietary intake on anticoagulant agents, and the need for regular contact with members of the health care team so that adequate monitoring of the patient’s status can be continued as long as the patient is receiving an anticoagulant.
Anticoagulant A drug used to limit the normal clotting processes of the blood.
Anticoagulant drugs include HEPARIN, LOW MOLECULAR WEIGHT HEPARIN and WARFARIN. Anticoagulant treatment carries its own dangers, specifically those related to internal bleeding.
Anticoagulant drugs inhibit clot formation by blocking the action of clotting factors or platelets.
Anticoagulant drugs fall into three groups: inhibitors of clotting factor synthesis, inhibitors of thrombin and antiplatelet drugs.

Gynecologic Surgery
Uterine perforation or damage to the wall of the uterus, which can cause bleeding at the time of surgery or after surgery.
The benefits of surgery depend on the type of surgery and its purpose.
Intermountain’s gynecologic surgery team uses the least invasive methods possible for surgery.
Many gynecologic surgeries are done as laparoscopic surgeries.
This means the doctor does the surgery by using a laparoscope, which lets the doctor look inside the body and do the surgery without opening the body up.
Follow up for each gynecologic surgery is different and depends on the reason for the surgery.
Gynecologic surgery is surgery on any part of a woman’s reproductive system, including the vagina, cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries.
Gynecological Surgery
On the basis of a review of physician practices in Oklahoma hospitals in 1995, Bratzler and coworkers5 found that only 38% of select Medicare general surgery patients received prophylaxis with no variation in use on the basis of their risk of VTE. A higher rate of use was found by Stratton and colleagues,101 75% for major abdominal surgery in a review of records from 10 teaching and community hospitals between 1996 and 1997.
What are the options for preventing venous thromboembolism in gynecologic patients based on the available evidence?BACKGROUNDGynecologic surgery carries risks of VTE that are similar to those for general surgery.
Pooled data from trials with untreated control arms show a DVT rate of 16% when prophylaxis is not used.37 Other studies indicate DVT rates from 7% to 29% in general gynecologic surgery and up to 45% in patients with cancer.
166 Much like general surgery, the patient population ranges from relatively young patients undergoing low-risk procedures to patients with cancer undergoing major surgery.
The SIGN guidelines recommend treating gynecology patients in the same manner as general surgery patients.
The study authors make a grade 1A recommendation of prophylaxis for all patients undergoing major surgery.
Only 18% of patients received adjuvant therapy, suggesting that sexual dysfunction is prevalent among patients treated with surgery alone.
Gynecological Surgery: What Is It?
Gynecological surgeries are a little more complex than the simplified version of events that you just read. More often than not, gynecological surgeries involve procedures on a female’s urinary tract as well.
A question for which answer differs from one surgery to another! However, mostly, gynecological surgeries are laparoscopic surgeries by nature.
Some common reasons for this gynecological surgery are fibroids, endometriosis, uterine bleeding, and uterine prolapse.
Specific benefits of gynecological surgeries vary with the type, but one doesn’t need to jump into the nitty-gritties of every gynecological surgery to understand the benefits on offer.
If gynecological surgery is aimed at removing a tumor of cancerous nature, then chemotherapy will be the most probable route to follow.
Even though these surgeries are effective, gynecological surgeries should be the last option in the list of choices.
A gynecological surgery will be prescribed only when the conservative treatment options have been exhausted.
Johns Hopkins Medicine
Gynecology surgery includes any surgical procedure that involves the organs and structure of the female pelvic region: the uterus, ovaries, cervix, fallopian tubes, vagina and vulva.
There are many reasons why a woman might need to undergo gynecology surgery.
She may need treatment for a condition such as endometriosis, fibroids, ovarian cysts, cancer, chronic pelvic pain, pelvic inflammatory disease, uterine prolapse or abnormal bleeding.
Gynecology surgery can also be used as permanent birth control.
Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery
Surgeons work together to perform a minimally invasive gynecologic surgical procedure, a technique that has been shown to lessen pain and shorten recovery time.
Gynecologists trained in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery specialize in evaluating and treating people who have a wide range of noncancerous gynecologic conditions, including heavy menstrual periods, irregular menstrual periods, pelvic pain, endometriosis and ovarian cysts.
A minimally invasive approach has been shown to improve outcomes and reduce discomfort, inconvenience and expense.
This technique has been shown to be an effective treatment that results in shorter hospital stays, less discomfort and a shorter recovery period.
Laparoscopic radiofrequency ablation is a less invasive alternative to hysterectomy and myomectomy.
This is the most minimally invasive approach to major gynecologic surgery.
It has all of the recovery advantages associated with laparoscopic and robotic surgery, while also avoiding any abdominal incisions.
Gynecological Surgery
FLOSEAL Matrix is indicated in surgical procedures as an adjunct to hemostasis when control of bleeding by ligature or conventional procedures is ineffective or impractical.
Do not inject or compress FLOSEAL Matrix into blood vessels.
Do not apply FLOSEAL Matrix in the absence of active blood flow, e.g., while the vessel is clamped or bypassed, as extensive intravascular clotting and even death may result.
Do not use FLOSEAL Matrix in patients with known allergies to materials of bovine origin.
FLOSEAL Matrix is not intended as a substitute for meticulous surgical technique and the proper application of ligatures or other conventional procedures for hemostasis.
Excess FLOSEAL Matrix should always be removed by gentle irrigation from the site of application.
Do not use air to remove residual FLOSEAL Matrix from Applicator tip.

Best Noise-Canceling Headphones For 2022
Where to start? When it comes to noise-canceling headphones that block out background noise and ambient sound, Bose headphones have been the audio gold standard for years.
The Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700 probably still have a slight edge for voice calls, but the 1000XM4 headphones are arguably a tad more comfortable and also have some other slight improvements to noise cancellation and sound that make this model a great all-around choice.
Sarah Tew/CNET. The Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700, the long-awaited successor to Bose’s QuietComfort 35 II model, may not be a quantum leap forward, but these headphones offer slightly better sound and noise cancellation along with top-notch headset performance for voice calls.
Noise canceling is good for the price, though not up to the level of the Sony WH-1000XM4 or Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700.
The active noise canceling is solid but not quite up to the level of Sony’s or Bose’s and like the Aonic 50, they work well for making calls and you can connect them to your computer via USB-C. For those with aptX-enabled Android devices, the headphones support aptX HD Bluetooth streaming.
Sarah Tew/CNET. Anker’s SoundCore Life Q20 headphones are arguably the best value in the category of noise-canceling headphones.
David Carnoy/CNET. Microsoft’s over-ear noise-canceling Surface Headphones 2 were released in early 2020, and the biggest change from their predecessor is the price: The original Surface Headphones launched at $350, while the Headphones 2 cost $250. Like the original, there’s a lot to like about this second-gen model.
The Best Noise-Cancelling Headphones For 2022
If you want to avoid all the noise, you should consider headphones with active noise cancellation to really get the job done.
It still offers some of the best ANC on the market, but headphones from a numbber of other brands have high-quality noise cancellation of their own.
Plenty of headphones can claim to be isolate or reduce noise, but that doesn’t mean they offer proper noise cancellation in the form of ANC. Passive noise isolation, sometimes called passive noise cancellation, is basically a fancy term for what earplugs do.
Nearly all ANC headphones use some degree of passive noise isolation in addition to their active circuitry, primarily for one reason: It’s an easy way for the noise cancellation to sound even more effective, and ANC is typically not nearly as good at tamping down high-frequency noises compared with low and middle frequencies.
What Noise Cancellation Can and Can’t Do. If you haven’t used ANC headphones before, you need to understand this: While noise cancellation does decrease the volume of surrounding noise, it doesn’t fully eliminate noise, and is notably less effective at eliminating inconsistent noise.
The best noise cancellation will eliminate these sounds to a degree, but you’re still going to hear some of it.
If noise cancellation isn’t a big deal for you, you can focus on other characteristics with our lists of the Best Wireless Headphones, the Best Earphones, and the Best Headphones overall.
The 4 Best Noise-Cancelling Headphones Of 2022
To judge the sound quality, we listened to the headphones with noise cancelling on and off-because some headphones sound great in one mode and not so great in the other.
To test the noise cancelling by ear, Lauren and John played noise at a loud level through a JBL L16 wireless speaker and then tried each of the headphones to see which ones best cancelled the noise.
To do this, he placed each set of over-ear headphones on his GRAS 43AG ear-and-cheek simulator connected through an M-Audio USB interface to a Windows laptop, played pink noise through the same speaker system described above, and used TrueRTA audio-spectrum analyzer software to see how much sound was leaking through the headphones.
Beats Studio3: Although these headphones remain popular, to our ears, they sound too bassy and boomy, and their noise cancelling is only average.
Cleer Enduro ANC: This pair’s noise cancelling is most effective at very low-frequency sounds, so airplane engine rumble is reduced, but you’ll still hear the upper grinding sounds of the engine whir.
The noise cancelling is mild but useful, and the sound quality is fine, but not the best.
JLab Epic Executive: We got pretty good noise cancelling from this set, but the sound was a little too soft for our taste, and the microphone sounded quiet and muffled over phone calls.
The 7 Best Noise Cancelling Headphones
The best ANC headphones under $100 we’ve tested are the Anker Soundcore Life Q30. These wireless over-ears are comfortable and well-built, with spacious ear cups and a metal-reinforced headband.
They have an adjustable ANC system that’s remarkably effective, as these headphones filter out everything from the low rumble of bus and plane engines to the high-pitched hum of an AC unit with ease.
Thankfully, these headphones have a graphic EQ and a couple of EQ presets in their companion app to adjust their audio reproduction to your liking.
These over-ears can pair with two devices simultaneously, allowing you to stream music from your phone while remaining connected to your computer.
Like most over-ear headphones, they’re very bulky, making carrying them around when not in use a bit of a hassle.
Thankfully, they come with a fairly solid hard-carrying case that should protect them from minor bumps and water exposure.
Otherwise, their relatively affordable price, wide feature set, and outstanding noise isolation capability help make them some of the best over-ear headphones under $100 that we’ve tested.
Best Noise Cancelling Headphones Of 2022
A good pair of noise cancelling headphones do two things: provide a comfortable fit for extended use and also accurately cancel out unwanted outside noise.
With so many options out there, we decided to make a list of the best noise cancelling headphones you can get.
The Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700 has the best build quality.
We don’t recommend the Bose QuietComfort 45 as one of the best noise cancelling headphones because it has a heavily boosted treble response that, as of October 2021, you can’t equalize away.
Sony WH-1000XM3: Despite the release of its successor, these are still one of the best active noise cancelling headphones on the market-even better than the Bose QC35 II. Plus, with the new ones out, the WH-1000XM3 is likely to go on sale eventually-perfect if you want great ANC headphones without breaking the bank.
Insert testing microphone into a human analog head. Play and record ~90dB of pink noise over a speaker about 1m away from the test head with the headphones OFF. Play and record ~90dB of pink noise over a speaker about 1m away from the test head with the headphones ON. Play and record ~90dB of pink noise over a speaker about 1m away from the test head with the headphones ACTIVATED. Subtract variable curve from the control curve.
If you’re willing to fork over a bit more money, you can get better quality headphones in the Sennheiser PXC 550-II. Active noise cancelling headphones work by detecting the sound going on around them and then creating a sound wave exactly opposite to the detected sound wave.
The Best Noise-Cancelling Headphones Of 2022
The best noise-cancelling headphones can really upgrade your listening experience, whether you want to feel fully immersed in your favorite music or you’re looking to block out the world to focus on a great podcast instead. Noise-cancelling headphones have become incredibly advanced over the years so they often feature amongst the best headphones out there.
Even the best running headphones and workout headphones can benefit from such functionality.
They don’t quite beat the Sony WH-1000XM4 in terms of battery life and price, but the Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700 are still a brilliant pair of over-ear cans – and the best Bose headphones we’ve reviewed.
The Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700 seek to remedy this, by applying noise-cancellation to phone calls as well as music, which is fantastic feature – that’s why these are the best noise-cancelling headphones for making calls.
While you won’t find every feature under the sun here then, the Shure AONIC 50 are laser-focused on delivering the best sound-quality of almost any noise-cancelling headphone – making them the best noise-cancelling headphones for audiophiles, even two years into their release.
The best all-rounder noise cancelling headphones with a stylish look.
Their lower price also makes them a great alternative to the best headphones of 2022, especially as they’ve retained the winning design features of the original Surface Headphones, with built-in dials on each earcup to control your music and the active noise cancellation.
Noise-Cancelling Headphones
Noise-cancelling headphones are headphones that reduce unwanted ambient sounds using active noise control.
In the aviation environment, noise-cancelling headphones increase the signal-to-noise ratio significantly more than passive noise attenuating headphones or no headphones, making hearing important information such as safety announcements easier.
To cancel the lower-frequency portions of the noise, noise-cancelling headphones use active noise control or ANC. A microphone captures the targeted ambient sounds, and a small amplifier generates sound waves that are exactly out of phase with the undesired sounds.
According to an experiment conducted to test how lightweight earphones reduced noise as compared to commercial headphones and earphones, lightweight headphones achieved better noise reduction than normal headphones.
To prevent higher-frequency noise from reaching the ear, most noise-cancelling headphones depend on sound isolation or soundproofing.
In these cases, the headphones are about the same size as normal headphones.
Noise-cancelling headphones typically cost more than regular headphones.
