The Office of Gas and Electricity Markets, supporting the Gas and Electricity Markets Authority, is the government regulator for the electricity and downstream natural gas markets in Great Britain.

It was formed by the merger of the Office of Electricity Regulation and Office of Gas Supply.

Consumers’ interests are their interests taken as a whole, including their interests in the reduction of greenhouse gases and in the security of the supply of gas and electricity to them.

The privatisation of the gas and electricity supply industries was enacted by the Gas Act 1986 and the Electricity Act 1989.

Section 1 of the respective Acts created the roles of Director General of Gas Supply and the Office of Gas Supply, and the Director General of Electricity Supply and the Office of Electricity Regulation.

At the time of privatisation, British Gas and the regional public electricity suppliers held a monopoly on supplying all domestic gas and electricity consumers respectively.

In 1997, British Gas was split into Centrica and BG plc, in order to separate gas supply from its production and distribution.

Michael S. Barr is currently a law professor at the University of Michigan Law School and the founder and faculty director of the University of Michigan’s Center on Finance, Law & Policy.

Barr served in the Obama administration as the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s assistant secretary for financial institutions, and the White House press release calls him “a key architect” of the Dodd-Frank Act.

In the Clinton administration, Barr served as Treasury Secretary Robert E. Rubin’s special assistant, as deputy assistant secretary of the Treasury, as special adviser to President Clinton, and as a special adviser and counselor on the policy planning staff at the U.S. Department of State.

Barr had been mentioned in 2021 as a possible pick by Biden to be Comptroller of the Currency, but he faced opposition from the left wing of the Democratic Party over concerns that he was too close to Wall Street.

Still, the White House is hoping that Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts will emerge as a key supporter, given her past praise of Barr’s work on creating Dodd-Frank and the CFPB. However, while he is seen as a much more centrist choice than Raskin, a Republican Congressional aide told CNBC that Barr is likely to receive many nay votes from Senate Republicans based on his work crafting what many of them view as excessive financial regulations.

Luc Donckerwolke is a Belgian automotive designer and the chief creative officer at Genesis and Ioniq.

Donckerwolke had begun his design career in 1990 with Peugeot in France.

During his time at Audi, Donckerwolke was also responsible for designing the Audi A2 concept and production car which was known at the time for being innovative and ahead of its time like most of his designs.

In September 2005, Donckerwolke was appointed SEAT Design Director overseeing the design of future SEAT models, replacing Walter de’Silva who was promoted to oversee design for the entire Audi Brand Group.

In September 2012, Donckerwolke was appointed Bentley Director of Design, overseeing the design of future Bentley models, replacing Dirk van Braeckel who moved to Volkswagen Group design.

In June 2015 Bentley announced Stefan Sielaff as his successor: “Mr Sielaff replaces Mr Donckerwolke who has decided to leave the business and Volkswagen AG”. In November 2015, he was appointed to lead Hyundai Motor Group’s Genesis luxury brand from 2016 and will work together with Hyundai-Kia’s chief designer Peter Schreyer.

Donckerwolke replaced Peter Schreyer as chief design officer of Hyundai Motor Group in 2017, position from which he resigned in April 2020.

Genesis’ newest electric concept is not an SUV. Intake: Genesis’ latest design study has a weird name-it’s called the Genesis X Speedium Coupe, named after a Korean racetrack in the city of Inje.

The horizontal two lines lamps-a Genesis signature design element-span the entire width of the front fascia, with the lower of the two turning down, then up, to create a crest resembling the Genesis Crest grille.

Exhaust: Donckerwolke and team have taken the Genesis brand’s design language from generic video-game car to double take on Sunset Boulevard.

Intake: The all-new Chrysler Airflow was introduced at January’s Consumer Electronics Show, signaling a new era in EV design for Stellantis.

Exhaust: There’s no doubt that a clean-sheet EV design like the Airflow deserves a splashy reveal at CES, given the country’s shifting interest toward consumer technology.

The Ioniq 5 also won the World Electric Car and World Car Design awards and marks a major turning point for Hyundai, deploying the company’s Electric-Global Modular Platform which is set to be the basis of another 17 battery-electric EVs from Hyundai and from Genesis by 2030.

The Genesis Of Genesis’ Future

As has been the case for several years, Genesis used the New York International Auto Show to once again tease us with a stunning new concept car, the Genesis X Speedium Coupe.

The new vehicle is a further development of last year’s Genesis Concept X. Luc Donckerwolke, Genesis chief creative officer and 2022 World Car Person of the Year led the design, which further advances the brand’s “Athletic Elegance” design philosophy.

The concept car was revealed off-site at Genesis House New York, a cultural space in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District.

While the car’s dual lighting elements remain unchanged on the side of the vehicle, but now wrap into the front and wrap into triangular shape that suggests the Genesis crest grille.

Genesis previously indicated a battery-electric car will launch well before mid-decade.

“We are pleased to bring Genesis production to the United States for the first time,” said José Muñoz, president & CEO of Genesis Motor North America.

To sustain that momentum, the automaker is introducing Genesis Priority One, a Genesis concierge service that provides a personalized purchase experience for the GV60, the brand’s first electric vehicle.

Hyundai/Genesis Design Chief Luc Donckerwolke Resigns

Hyundai chief designer Luc Donckerwolke has resigned effective immediately, Automotive News and other publications are reporting today.

Donckerwolke had been with Hyundai and Genesis since 2016 and is credited with a radical shift in design.

He became chief design officer of Hyundai Motor Group, including Hyundai, Genesis, and Kia, in 2018.No reason for the departure was given.

In a surprise move, Luc Donckerwolke, 54, has left the Hyundai Group, where he oversaw global design activities.

He had joined Hyundai and Genesis in January 2016 and took over as global design chief for all brands, including Kia, in October 2018, succeeding Peter Schreyer in this position.

In Sant’Agata Bolognese, Donckerwolke worked on the final iterations of the Diablo and the Gallardo; the Murciélago, probably the purest Lamborghini ever built, is 100 percent a Donckerwolke design.

At Genesis, a luxury brand especially close to his heart, he created an entirely new design language characterized by two lines stretching from the head- to the taillights; his influence is visible in the concept cars GV80, Essentia, and Mint as well as the facelifted G90 and the all-new GV80 and G80.Donckerwolke is reported to be leaving Hyundai on very amicable terms, with no current plans to join another company.

For 2023, Genesis is giving its flagship G90 sedan a big glow-up, complete with more modern styling and possibly an optional electric powertrain.

Hyundai Genesis

The Hyundai Genesis is an executive four-door, five passenger, rear or all-wheel-drive full-size luxury sedan manufactured and marketed by Hyundai.

The Hyundai Genesis debuted in 2008 until Genesis spun off as a separate entity in 2017, rebadging the vehicle as the G80. Introduced in concept form at the 2007 New York International Auto Show, and internally designated as the BH model, the Genesis was expected to cost $533 million to develop.

On 4 November 2015, Hyundai officially separated Genesis into its own luxury division, Genesis Motor.

Hyundai reportedly benchmarked the BMW 5 Series sedan during the Genesis’ development; the company’s press release indicates the Genesis body in white exceeds the BMW in torsional rigidity by 14%. In 2009, the Genesis sold 21,889 units in the U.S. There had been internal discussions within Hyundai about creating a separate brand to feature the Genesis sedan as well as the soon to come Equus sedan in North America, but due to prohibitive costs and potential delays the Genesis and Equus remained tagged with the Hyundai brand until 2016.

DQ Dip Cones Are Only 75 Cents Thru April 24; Plus A Brief History Of America’S Ice Cream Darling

One of the few upsides to dealing with thick humidity is how it provides a perfect excuse to eat ice-cold treats like soft-serve ice cream.

Dairy Queen announced that they’re rolling back the price of its small, soft-serve ice cream cones to 75 cents per cone for all of its available flavors.

The DQ ice cream cones come in three flavors: plain vanilla for all of us basic bastards and bitches, chocolate-dipped vanilla and the new fruity blast flavor announced last week on the Twitter page for DQ’s Texas chain.

The owner of Smitty’s Grill near Texas A&M University, Omar Smith, installed a soft-serve ice cream machine in his cafe and it became a big hit.

Two years later, the Dairy Queen chain offered Smith a chance to turn his entire operation into a Dairy Queen restaurant.

According a book by by Anne Cooper Funderburg, Chocolate, Strawberry and Vanilla: A History of American Ice Cream, Sherb Noble and J.F. McCullough developed the first recipe for soft-serve ice cream in 1938 and tested the product with an “All you can eat” ice cream event at a shop in Kankakee, Illinois.

The menu only offered ice cream items in pints, quarts and sundaes as well as cones that cost a nickel for a triple-decker serving.

Royal Address: Former Burger King To Become Dairy Queen In Marshall Township

MARSHALL TWP. – Township officials have confirmed a Dairy Queen is planned along Michigan Avenue, occupying a vacant site formerly home to Burger King.

The Marshall Township Planning Commission unanimously approved a special use permit and site plan for the restaurant April 5.

“Marshall Township is pleased to have a vacant building refurbished and put back into a viable commercial property,” township Zoning Administrator Paul Anderson said.

“Today’s Dairy Queen is more than an ice cream store, and the township looks forward to its opening.”

The Marshall Township restaurant will join nearby Dairy Queen locations in Battle Creek, Charlotte and Coldwater.

There are 157 Dairy Queen locations in Michigan, according to the company’s website.

Dairy Queen is getting ready for summer earlier than ever with a brand new drink made for sipping poolside on a hot day.

The new Poolside Punch Twisty Misty Slush features ice-cold layers of blue raspberry and pink punch flavors twisted together, which DQ says tastes like summer in a cup and can transport you to a tropical cabana or poolside resort regardless of where you’ll be spending your summer.

Dairy Queen doesn’t say how long the new drink will be on the menu, but it’s safe to say it will be sticking around at least into the summer.

While the Poolside Punch Twisty Misty Slush is clearly made for summer, it’s actually on Dairy Queen’s new spring menu, which also includes a S’mores Shake and new dipped cone flavor.

The S’mores Shake is made with marshmallow, graham and chocolatey shavings blended with DQ’s vanilla soft serve, while the new Fruity Blast Dipped Cone is a creamy vanilla soft-serve cone dipped in a light purple coating that’s flavored like fruity cereal.

While they’re obviously known for their desserts, DQ also has a pretty extensive food menu, including a new line of burgers to pair with your ice cream treats this summer.

The new Signature Stackburgers come in five flavor varieties as one-third pound doubles and one-half pound triples.

The donut chain Krispy Kreme knows a thing or two about holes, including the ones higher prices are making in consumers’ budgets.

Starting Wednesday, and for the next three Wednesdays, customers can buy a dozen glazed donuts for the same price that an average gallon of gas cost nationally on the preceding Monday.

Krispy Kreme would like to avoid holes in its own budget, as prices for commodities and wages continue to rise.

Tristano says a couple dozen donuts for the price of a few might entice managers trying to ease the transition.

“When you buy a dozen donuts, you’re typically sharing them,” he said.

Running the promotion for only four weeks put Krispy Kreme right in our psychological sweet spot.

“When a consumer starts to establish a pattern over a four-week period, generally speaking, [it] is likely to continue even when the price of donuts is up.”

Krispy Kreme announced it will sell a dozen glazed doughnuts for the price of one gallon of gas on Wednesdays, starting April 13.”While Americans deal with the rising PPG – price per gallon – of gasoline, we’re lowering our PPOG – price per Original Glaze,” said Chief Marketing Officer Dave Skena in the company’s press release.

Krispy Kreme will pull the average national gas price the Monday prior from AAA’s gas price tracker and set the price of a dozen Original Glazed doughnuts accordingly for that Wednesday.

” We hope providing a little doughnut deflation will allow them to share some smiles during a difficult time,” said Skena in the statement.

Customers can visit the Krispy Kreme site to find out if their local shop is participating in the offer.

Orders can be placed in-store, in the drive-thru, online, or through the app.

Krispy Kreme wants to take the edge off higher gas prices by lowering doughnut prices.

Every Wednesday from April 13 through May 4, Krispy Kreme will sell a dozen original glazed doughnuts for the price of a gallon of regular gas.

Each week, the chain will use Monday’s national average gas price to set the promotional cost for its doughnuts.

A dozen original glazed Krispy Kreme doughnuts will cost $4.11.

In January, after the Red Cross said it was experiencing the worst blood shortage in over a decade, Krispy Kreme gave away doughnuts to blood donors.

The national average for a gallon of gas on April 13 costs $4.11, and that’s also what people are paying today for a dozen original glazed doughnuts from Krispy Kreme.

In a marketing ploy supposedly meant to help offset skyrocketing gas prices nationwide due in part to Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine, the North Carolina chain is tapping into its “Strategic doughnut reserve” every Wednesday, from April 13 through May 4, and offering a dozen glazed doughnuts for the price of a gallon of regular unleaded gas.

The price of gas continually fluctuates according to energy markets worldwide, but has averaged between $4.08 per gallon to as high as $4.30 per gallon over the past month.

A dozen glazed doughnuts from Krispy Kreme typically costs around $12 in Atlanta.

“While Americans deal with the rising PPG – price per gallon – of gasoline, we’re lowering our PPOG – price per Original Glaze,” chief marketing officer Dave Skena says in a press release.

Apparently Krispy Kreme considers not including a dozen doughnuts at the breakfast table as one of those “Tough tradeoffs” Americans now face these days.

Krispy Kreme plans to announce its price per dozen each Wednesday through May 4 via Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

As US gas prices hover near record highs, Krispy Kreme is aiming to lure cash-strapped motorists with the promise of a box of donuts for the same price as a gallon of unleaded.

The North Carolina-based chain said it will use the national average price of a gallon of gas as the benchmark for the price of a dozen glazed donuts.

The discounted boxes will be available at stores and online each Wednesday through May 4 – with prices updated each preceding Monday to reflect gas prices.

“Inflation and high gasoline prices are serious and forcing families to make tough tradeoffs,” Krispy Kreme chief marketing officer Dave Skena said in a statement.

This week, a dozen donuts from the chain will cost customers $4.11 – the same price listed as the national average cost of a gallon of gas, according to data from AAA. The same box of donuts generally costs about $10. The promotion was revealed this week ahead of the Labor Department’s release of its Consumer Price Index for March, which showed inflation surged to 8.5%. Inflation rose at its highest rate since December 1981.

Food prices are also on the rise, regardless of whether Americans choose to eat at home or buy meals or snacks from companies such as Krispy Kreme.

The price of groceries jumped about 10% in March, while food purchased outside the home jumped 6.9%. Overall, the cost of food jumped 8.8% in March compared to the same month last year.

Ancient Namibian Stone Could Hold Key To Future Quantum Computers

A special form of light made using an ancient Namibian gemstone could be the key to new light-based quantum computers, which could solve long-held scientific mysteries, according to new research led by the University of St Andrews.

This interaction is crucial because this is what allows the creation of quantum simulators, a special type of quantum computer, where information is stored in quantum bits.

These quantum bits, unlike the binary bits in classical computers that can only be 0 or 1, can take any value between 0 and 1.

Project lead Dr. Hamid Ohadi, of the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of St Andrews, says that “Making a quantum simulator with light is the holy grail of science. We have taken a huge leap towards this by creating Rydberg polaritons, the key ingredient of it.”

One of the leading authors Dr. Sai Kiran Rajendran, of the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of St Andrews, says that “Purchasing the stone on eBay was easy. The challenge was to make Rydberg polaritons that exist in an extremely narrow color range.”

The team is currently further refining these methods in order to explore the possibility of making quantum circuits, which are the next ingredient for quantum simulators.

Quantum Computing Firm Simulates Adoption Of Crypto Payments

Multiverse Computing, a quantum computing firm with offices in Canada and Spain, has partnered with the Bank of Canada to run simulations on how the adoption of cryptocurrency might proceed as a payment method.

In a Thursday announcement, Multiverse Computing said it used its equipment as part of a proof-of-concept project with the Bank of Canada to generate examples of how non-financial firms may end up adopting crypto.

“We wanted to test the power of quantum computing on a research case that is hard to solve using classical computing techniques,” said the Bank of Canada’s director of data science, Maryam Haghighi.

“This collaboration helped us learn more about how quantum computing can provide new insights into economic problems by carrying out complex simulations on quantum hardware.”

With advancements in quantum computing often come many suggesting that the technology could be used to “Crack” the security of Bitcoin or other blockchains by breaking the underlying cryptography.

In February, banking giant JPMorgan Chase released research on a blockchain network resistant to quantum computing attacks.

What Is A Quantum Simulator?

The types of quantum hardware proposed to perform such simulations are as hugely varying as the problems they aim to solve: trapped ions [14-19], cold atoms in optical lattices [20-22], liquid and solid-state NMR [23-27], photons [28-33], quantum dots [34-36], superconducting circuits [6, 37-42], and NV centres [43, 44]. At the time of writing, astonishing levels of control in proof-of-principle experiments suggest that quantum simulation is transitioning from a theoretical dream into a credible possibility.

To complete the definition of a quantum simulator we need to define what is meant by a quantum device.

Many others [49, 50] take the quantum in quantum simulator to relate to the model being simulated as well as to the simulating device.

In common with definitions of quantum computation, our assignment of the quantum in quantum simulator based only on the device avoids the assumption that only simulating quantum models is hard enough to potentially benefit from a quantum device.

In addition to the widely-accepted need for quantum devices for the quantum models discussed above, there are calls and proposals for quantum devices to simulate classical models [117, 118], for example, molecular dynamics and lattice gas models [120, 121]. This also applies to any simulation that reduces to solving an eigenvalue equation or a set of linear equations.

It is possible that the experimental difficulty of scaling up quantum simulation hardware might cause an overhead such that a quantum device does not surpass the accuracy obtained by a classical algorithm that in principle does not scale as well but runs on ever-improving hardware obeying Moore’s law.7 When are quantum simulators trustworthy?

The majority of the current effort on quantum simulation is, firstly, in matching models of interest to a suitable quantum device with which to perform a simulation [49, 50]. Secondly, experimentalists demonstrate a high level of control and flexibility with a simulator, performing some of the simple fail-able tests mentioned above [18, 22, 33]. This is very much along the lines of the five goals set out by Cirac and Zoller in 2012 , and great successes have led to claims that we are now able to perform simulations on a quantum device that we are unable to do on a classical device.

Pennsylvania Casinos Fined Nearly $240K For Regulatory Violations

Four Pennsylvania casinos have been fined by the state for various operating infractions.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board announced yesterday numerous regulatory fines totaling $238,500.

The fines were levied against four casinos and two licensed vendors that do direct business with the licensed gaming establishments.

Casino Infractions Hollywood Casino at the Meadows in Washington, which was known as The Meadows until last fall, was fined $40,000 for overserving alcohol to a patron.

The state gaming agency additionally fined Rivers Casino Pittsburgh $7,500 for failing to adhere to a PGCB order to replace software on a dozen slot machines.

The state said the replacement software not being installed did not result in any additional regulatory violations.

Two additional land-based satellite casinos are currently in development in State College and Shippensburg.

(c) The Board will require payment of all costs for the testing and approval of slot machines, tables games, table game devices, interactive games, sports wagering devices, video gaming terminals and all associated equipment submitted by manufacturers or gaming related gaming service providers or installed at a licensed facility or offered on an approved interactive gaming or interactive sports wagering web site or mobile application based on the actual direct costs incurred by the Board.

(d) The Board will require a manufacturer licensee or gaming related gaming service provider seeking approval of a slot machine, table games, table game device, interactive game, sports wagering device, video gaming terminal or all associated equipment to pay all costs of transportation, inspection and testing.

(f) The Bureau of Gaming Laboratory Operations shall review the report from the registered private testing and certification facility, and prior to installation or use of a slot machine, table game, table game device, interactive game, sports wagering device or video gaming terminal and all associated equipment at a licensed facility, on an authorized interactive gaming or sports wagering web site or mobile application, or at a licensed truck stop establishment, shall report the findings to the Board’s Executive Director for abbreviated certification and approval in accordance with § 461a.4.

(d) Slot machine prototypes, table game prototypes, table game device prototypes, interactive game and platform prototypes, sports wagering device prototypes, video gaming terminal prototypes and all associated equipment prototypes, and modifications thereto, which are subject to testing and approval under this section will be evaluated by the Bureau of Gaming Laboratory Operations for overall operational integrity and compliance with the act, this subpart and technical standards adopted by the Board as published in the Pennsylvania Bulletin and posted on the Board’s web site.

(m) A licensee shall immediately notify the Bureau of Gaming Laboratory Operations and the casino compliance representatives at the licensed facility, the Bureau of Gaming Operations for interactive gaming, the Office of Sports Wagering Operations or the Bureau of Casino Compliance for video gaming of any known or suspected defect or malfunction in any slot machine, table game, table game device, interactive game, sports wagering device, video gaming terminal or any associated equipment installed in its licensed facility or on its interactive gaming website or mobile application.

(c) Manufacturers of slot machines, table games, table game devices, interactive games, sports wagering devices, video gaming terminals and all associated equipment or gaming related gaming services providers shall be responsible for all costs incurred by the Board in reviewing the report issued by the private testing and certification facility and approving the slot machine, table game, table game device, interactive game, sports wagering device, video gaming terminal or any associated equipment.

(r) A private testing and certification facility employee who was employed by, or performed any work for, a manufacturer or gaming related gaming service provider licensed by the Board within 1 year prior to the person’s date of employment with the private testing and certification facility may not inspect or certify a slot machine, table game, table game device, interactive game, sports wagering device, video gaming terminal and all associated equipment for use in a licensed facility, with which the person had any involvement whatsoever while employed by the manufacturer or gaming related gaming service provider.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board is a governmental agency of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, founded in 2004 as the state licensing and the regulatory agency responsible for overseeing slot machines and casino gambling in the state.

Hundreds Stand In Rain For Hours Waiting For Amazon Fresh To Open

FAIRFAX CITY, VA – Hundreds of people stood in the rain early Thursday morning, waiting for the 7 a.m. grand opening of the new Amazon Fresh store in the Point 50 shopping center in Fairfax City.

Once they’ve finished shopping, customers can use Amazon One, a credit or debit card, or the In-Store QR code in the Amazon app when exiting the store.

Customers who’d rather not use the Just Walk Out technology can still enter Amazon Fresh and make purchases just like any another grocery store.

“We are thrilled that Amazon has come to this place. Amazon is known for quality, excellent service, a commitment to its employees and most especially the communities they serve. This store will create over 200 new jobs and will offer great products to our residents and businesses throughout the central Fairfax region.”

Dive Brief: Amazon announced on Thursday that it has opened a new Fresh grocery store in greater Washington, D.C., equipped with its Just Walk Out checkout-free technology.

That focus is increasingly shifting toward the Just Walk Out system, suggesting Amazon sees the technology as key to its budding grocery brand going forward.

Amazon opened its first Fresh store with Just Walk Out technology in Bellevue, Washington, last June, and has since brought the service to other locations in the chain.

The Fairfax store is the company’s first full-size store on the East Coast to incorporate the futuristic checkout system, according to a LinkedIn post by a real estate executive with Amazon Fresh.

Amazon’s Just Walk Out system uses ceiling-mounted cameras and artificial intelligence to track shoppers’ selections as they walk around the store and automatically charges them when they exit.

Wawa Plans To Double Its Store Count By 2030 By Focusing On Markets In The South

Wawa plans to nearly double its store count to 1,800 locations by 2030, CEO Chris Gheysens told the Philadelphia Business Journal.

He characterized the plan as “The most aggressive growth” in the chain’s history, saying the expansion will include “Traditional” neighborhood stores and “Non-traditional” rest-stop style formats in both existing and new markets.

The chain debuted the concept in December 2020 in Westhampton, New Jersey, where a drive-thru was added to an existing store.

The expansion will include 300 stores in the chain’s existing territory, but Wawa also plans to “Fill in the market” between Virginia and Florida, Gheysens said.

Wawa doesn’t have any stores in North Carolina, South Carolina or Georgia despite ample markets along the I-95 corridor.

Wawa is expected to open its first store in North Carolina in 2024.

The company started as an iron foundry in 1803 and opened its first convenience store in Folsom, Delaware County in 1964.

Convenience Store Sales Return To Pre-Pandemic Levels

Convenience stores in the U.S. overcame a decline in store count and a pandemic-related dip in transactions to post record sales last year, according to NACS. Total in-store sales increased to a record $277.9 billion in 2021, according to newly released NACS State of the Industry data.

“Customers [are] continuing to rely on their local convenience store to fulfill their shopping needs,” the association said.

The record sales came despite a 1.5% decline in the number of convenience stores, which totaled 148,026 stores at the start of 2022.

NACS did not break out food and beverage sales, which traditionally are a huge percentage of the total.

The average in-store basket size increased 6.3% in 2021 to $7.59 and has grown 22.4% over the past two years, making up for a 6.9% decrease in in-store transactions since 2019.

Trio Wanted In Over A Dozen NW Side Convenience Store Robberies

Police are alerting Northwest Side business owners after more than a dozen convenience stores were robbed at gunpoint by as many as three men since February.

In each robbery, someone armed with a handgun enters the store and takes money, liquor and cigarettes by force, Chicago police detectives said in a community alert.

In one case, a man struck the victim in the face with a handgun for trying to press a hold-up alarm, police said.

Police asked anyone with information to call Area Five detectives at 746-7394.

Fort Worth Convenience Store Shooting: 3 Injured At Pink Store

FORT WORTH, Texas – Three people were shot inside a Fort Worth convenience store Thursday afternoon, the second convenience store shooting within 24 hours in the city, police told WFAA. Police were sent to 1701 South Riverside, an address for the convenience store known as the Pink Store.

Investigators with the department told WFAA that three people were shot inside.

A spokesperson for the department told WFAA that it’s not clear if the shooting was a robbery.

Thursday’s shooting was the second convenience store shooting the city has seen within 24 hours.

Two people were shot and are expected to be OK. The location is roughly one mile from the Pink Store.

Fort Worth Police Chief Neil Noakes has promised to reduce violent crime by 10% within one year.

A department spokesperson said the drive-by shooting on Bessie was within a hot spot, but said Thursday’s shooting wasn’t.

Salmonella

Salmonella can be spread by food handlers who do not wash their hands and/or the surfaces and tools they use between food preparation steps, and when people eat raw or undercooked foods.

People who have direct contact with certain animals, including poultry and reptiles, can spread the bacteria from the animals to food if they do not practice proper hand washing hygiene before handling food.

Pets can also spread the bacteria within the home environment if they eat food contaminated with Salmonella.

Past U.S. outbreaks of salmonellosis have been associated with meat products, poultry products, raw or undercooked eggs and dough, dairy products, fruits, leafy greens, raw sprouts, fresh vegetables, nut butters and spreads, pet foods and treats.

Wash the inside walls and shelves of the refrigerator, cutting boards and countertops, and utensils that may have contacted contaminated foods; then sanitize them with a solution of one tablespoon of chlorine bleach to one gallon of hot water; dry with a clean cloth or paper towel that has not been previously used.

People with pets should take special care to avoid cross-contamination when preparing their pet’s food.

Be sure to pick up and thoroughly wash food dishes as soon as pets are done eating, and prevent children, the elderly, and any other people with weak immune systems from handling or being exposed to the food or pets that have eaten potentially contaminated food.

Salmonellosis

Salmonellosis is a symptomatic infection caused by bacteria of the Salmonella type.

There are two species of Salmonella: Salmonella bongori and Salmonella enterica with many subspecies.

Typhoid fever occurs when Salmonella bacteria enter the lymphatic system and cause a systemic form of salmonellosis.

Though Salmonella infection is frequently the cause of osteomyelitis in people with sickle-cell, it is not the most common cause, which is Staphylococcus infection.

The country eradicated salmonella without vaccines and antibiotics by focusing on eliminating the infection from “Breeder stocks”, implementing various measures to prevent infection, and taking a zero-tolerance policy towards salmonella in chickens.

The United States has struggled to control salmonella infections, with the rate of infection rising from 2001 to 2011.
